Book Description
What would legendary Boston Celtics coach and 16-time NBA champion Red Auerbach say is the most critical quality for a person to be successful? Would his advice differ from 10-time NCAA championship coach John Wooden's? What would each say to a young person just starting out in pursuit of their dreams? What is the best advice they were ever given?
It took author Christian Klemash more than two years of research, persistence, and original interviews, but now he's ready to pass on the best advice you'll ever get. Wow!Could not put it down.An extraordinay self help book.Gave it to my kids they loved it.Don't miss this one
What a great read!.......2007-07-25
I took it on vacation with me and I couldn't put it down. A great book for aspiring athletes and coaches as well as your average Joe who works 9-5. The coaches discuss a variety of topics from their childhood to how they motivate their players. Any easy read for all ages.
Game of life.......2007-07-24
I've read through Game of Life and I enjoyed it very much. There are so many things to take from this book, not just into sports, but also some reflections on life. I would recommend this book to everybody.
Coaching advise from athletic coaches.......2007-06-27
A fun read, especially if yoiu're a sports fan. I read it in search of things that would help my own ability as a coach in my company. Much of it is light stuff but the easy read makes it fun nonetheless and there are few golden nuggets laced throughout the book.
Overcome Adversity.......2007-04-12
Anyone looking for inspiration, either for their own life or to share with others, will find a gold mine of quotes here. This book isn't just for sports fans.

Customer Reviews:
For US students only!.......2007-07-08
I teach English to children in France and this book has very little content geared for my needs and not worth the $12 I spent. I love to teach with mini-books that I create myself, so I was drawn to the title. However, I found the ones offered here very dull, i.e. copying number words, rather than engaging their creativity by having them illustrate the number word. Other mini-books teach the Pledge of Allegiance, This Land is Your Land, and writing the alphabet - also not appropriate for my needs. But as someone who is always looking for appropriate clip art for my lessons, I agree with the other reviewers that the illustrations are appealing and helpful for teaching basic vocabulary, and can be used in many ways.
Excellent.......2006-03-10
I used this book to teach 2nd graders of an Elementary school in Mexico. They loved the activities!
Beginning ESL.......2005-09-14
Although this book is more for children, there are some pages I was able to use for my adult ESL course. There are some nice diagrams along with good ideas on how to begin a level one class.
Invaluable resourse.......2004-07-31
I recently taught ESL in China for a few weeks and found this book incredibly useful. Although marketed as being for grades 1-4, I found this book helpful for even high school students--it depends more on the level of language proficiency than anything else. For example, I used the "parts of the body" page to review what my students already knew, and then they filled in more complicated words such as thigh, shoulder, ankle, etc. The money page has very realistic drawings of the various coins, all of which were new to my students. The food pages were very helpful before moving on to more complicated lessons on ordering in a restaurant. A great book for a modest price!
Excellent for Young Learners!.......2003-04-27
As a teacher of young learners, I struggle to find resources that truly meet the needs of my students, most of whom are just beginning to read and write in English. This book, however, has proven to be a goldmine. Kids and parents alike love the make-and-take books, while I love the flexibility of each unit. I've used the simple drawings to make charts, flashcards, games, etc. to accompany thematic units and have even used a few of the worksheets to review basic concepts with older kids. I'm giving the book a four instead of a five because the unit topics are quite basic. Once students know colors, numbers, letters, shapes, body parts, basic food items, and basic school terminology, this book basically goes back on the shelf until you get your next room full of beginners. But if you teach young learners with limited language skills, this book is a must have.

Customer Reviews:
These Are Awesome!.......2007-10-10
My toddler loves looking at these cards. It is a great item for him to grow up with. The cards are sturdy and the game ideas for parents are great.
He LOVES these flash cards and our "Play Time".......2007-09-17
I've read some of the pros and cons of flash cards for infants and it concerned me, but my grandson loves when I point out things (photos on the wall, the clock, the fan, etc) and tells him what they are. He points and wants me to show him each things we've learned, over and over again; so I thought he might like flash cards.
Well, he loves them, especially these. I've read where we shouldn't push our babies into memorizing, but everything we do is memorizing... what the number two looks like, the name for the four legged animal that barks, in school we memorize dates and name and places, just about everything is a matter of memorization (which I've always had a problem with). Since my grandson is the one initiating the "game", I thought it couldn't hurt to "play".
The items in these cards are items he happens to really like, car, cat, dog, apple, fire engine, etc. I have other flash cards that he likes, but not as much as these. The feel part is just an added plus. I particularly like the jelly. The cards are nice and heavy so I don't worry about him handling them. But they are card board so I don't let him put them in his mouth.
He gets so excited when we play, when I show him the cards and read the name and make the sound that it would make, or tell him what we do with it. It only took twice through the cards for him to start making the sounds on his own, and he's only 9 months old.
If he loves it, we spend time together doing something he loves AND he's learning... that can't be bad. I'm so glad I got these cards for him.
Great educational product.......2007-09-07
My 11 month-old daughter loves these cards. She enjoys taking them out of the box, one-by-one and then looking at each one. She especially likes looking at the picture of the baby and the animals and touching all the differnt textures. My only complaint is sticky surface of the "jelly" card is now covered in dust and fuzz.
Love These Cards.......2007-07-18
My twins love these cards and they've really jump-started their communication skills. They love to hold them, and these cards are thick enough to be bitten and bent. I'm buying the rest of the series for them.
Great for little hands.......2007-04-28
My 15 month old daughter loves these cards. We have the complete set of first words, animals, numbers, colors, etc. She pulls them out daily and looks at them. She brings them to me so that I can teach her what the picture is telling her. They are sturdy under toddler feet, and in toddler hands. A wonderful product from the great publisher of DK. I recommend them over all other cards for this age group (and believe me I looked for an alternative).

Fun cards that teach and entertain!.......2007-08-25
My daughter is a flashcard connosieur! She loves all kinds - even just the plain ones with pictures and words. But these...oh these are a flashcard baby's version of Shangri-La! How fun to feel the textures and connect those right and left sides of the brain! And now that she's 18 months old, the fun is even greater because she's "getting" it. We will use these until they are worn and bent and then, after my newborn son has also had his fun, we will cut them apart to add to my children's scrapbooks. Fun for every child!
Not appropriate for learning shapes by "feel".......2007-06-12
I am a speech-language pathologist, and many of the children I work with benefit from using touch to learn. However, the cards in this set are not good for learning the shapes because the "feel" portions of the card are not always in the shape being described! A child should not be feeling a crooked ribbon shape while s/he hears the word square! Also, there is no need to have color associated with touch, because color is purely visual. Touching a fuzzy duckling and saying yellow is going to confuse a language impaired child and perhaps some very young children. It would be better to have more shapes (made properly) or numbers.
Throw these away and start over, DK. I know you can do better!
Wonderful learning tool.......2007-02-10
All of the Touch and Feel cards in the My First collection are wonderful! We just got them when my son turned 2, and I wish I had known about them sooner. His speech therapist introduced them to us as a way to encourage him to say more words, and they are very engaging to him. They are a great learning tool but are also fun to play as well. I would recommend a set of these as a gift for a first birthday (or anything, really!). They are a great price and well worth it!
Great for learning and playing.......2007-01-19
My daughter has the whole collection. Not only has it helped her learn words and such, but she just loves playing with the cards. The entire collection is really wonderful!
Great for learning and fun.......2006-12-11
My daughter loves these cards. She is 14 months and can recognize the different shapes and colors when I show her the cards. She likes to play with them, taking them out of the box, putting them back in, and stacking them. They come with suggestions for games to play with them as the child grows older. They are sturdy, and I expect that we'll be using them for a long time.

A quick help.......2003-06-02
This is a great book to be able to grab when you need an activity. One thing that I really enjoy about B. Sher's activities is that the are low prep. and you know that anything you find in her book will be of value to the children.
What a disappointment.......2001-04-20
Most activities in this book are only appropriate for very young children. I am a fan of Barbara Sher's other books so I bought this without browsing it first. Many of the '300' activities are chants with various words. For example: "we've all got a name, first and last, tell us your name and we will laugh". Another activity is to let the child smell food flavorings. Fun stuff if you're 3 but there isn't much for an 8 year old.
easy to use.......2000-02-07
Wonderful book for parents, teachers, baby-sitters, etc. Gave the Hebrew edition (available in Israel) to a friend who enjoyed using it to entertain the children on a trans-atlantic flight. I highly reccomend this book and others by Barbara Sher, including "Extrodinary Games with Ordinary Things"
Easy-to-read, very fun approach to the subject........1998-10-28
Like Barbara's other books, Self Esteem Games is a well-written, easy to read, fun guide to a serious subject. Is appropriate for parents and professionals alike.

Sturdy, Fun, Engaging!.......2007-07-23
We purchased these in the 4 for 3 special along with shapes, animals and first words for our 19 month old son. He was immediately interested and now will try and get the cards off the shelf by himself. We go over a few cards each day and the textures are great, allowing us to linger on one card a bit longer while we describe and go over it. There are also tips and tricks for parents and suggestions for questions to ask your child on the back of each card.
These are not thin, flimsy flashcards, they are more like thick cardboard and the packaging is great. They come in a sturdy box with a flap closure that keeps everything nice and tidy. Our son loves these and so far they are holding up great to all that loving!
A definate must for toddlers.......2007-04-28

Book Description
It’s Elmo’s birthday and all his Sesame Street friends are going to his party to help him celebrate. There are lots of things to touch and feel in this interactive book, including slippery balloons, a silky ribbon, and a fluffy rabbit. But as Elmo knows, while parties and gifts are fun, the best thing about a birthday is celebrating it with friends!
Customer Reviews:
Bold and sturdy book celebrating a great day!.......2004-10-29
Bright and colorful pages make this book loads of fun for any little one's special day. Elmo celebrates his birthday with the whole Sesame Street gang from Bert and Ernie to Zoe and Cookie Monster. Each page has a touch and feel texture, i.e. Elmo's nose is soft and velvety, Ernie's box has "straw" inside. The pages are large and sturdy, a great board book to have in your child's library or give as a birthday gift to a Sesame Street fan!

Great for learning and fun.......2006-12-11
My daughter loves these cards. She is 14 months and can recognize the different animals and make the animal noises when I show her the cards. She likes to play with them, taking them out of the box, putting them back in, and stacking them. They come with suggestions for games to play with them as the child grows older. They are sturdy, and I expect that we'll be using them for a long time.
We love these!.......2006-04-26
My 15 month old received these in her Easter basket and they're great! They are very sturdy- about like the page from a touch and feel board book (2-ply so the fabric can be sandwiched between). The touch and feel patches on some of the cards are somewhat small (you only get the nose on the puppy), but it really doesn't detract overall. There are 4 animals in each of 4 categories: ocean, zoo, pets, & farm. Each category has a different color border which is good for sorting. This may seem irrelevant, but the box is very sturdy. It matters to us because my daughter loves putting the cards into the box and taking them out over and over. It's made of a heavy laminated cardboard which can sit alone on its bottom and the lid flips over the top and has a velcro closure.
