Book Description
The THIEME Atlas of Anatomy is a revolution in the presentation of human anatomy. It combines topographical views of different body regions, in stunning detail and unprecedented clarity, with the more classical portrayals of isolated systems, in which the bony structure, vasculature, muscles, and nerves are assembled for the reader in a step-by-step logical sequence. Schematics highlight specific structures and depict their coordination in functional units. Throughout the book we have included hundreds of clinical correlations to provide an integrated presentation of structure, function, and malfunction that will serve the needs of students and practitioners alike.

The THIEME Atlas of Anatomy series is amazing!.......2007-07-26
By far, this is the best atlas series available and as a medical student, I would recommend the three atlases to anyone who studies in the field of anatomy. Trust me, this is THE book you keep for life!
Better than Netter! (yes, really, it is!).......2007-05-28
At our school we have an anatomist that is in his 70's and is credited for editing and correcting Netter's! He is amazing and he told us about this series. It is a three book series covering all of anatomy, but in the future they will condense this into a single book "Netter" style review. The images and illustration are unbelievable, with new and unique views that really reveal the relationships between structures. In addition, there is more teaching text and clinical imagery included that really brings concepts together. This three book series is THE reference to have on your shelf for the rest of your professional career. The musculoskeletal version would also be great for artists as well as medical students!
AMAZING - love it.......2007-04-05
this is an amazing text book and has already been so benificial. diagrams are so clear and makes Netter's diagrams look average.
i cant ssay anything bad about it other than i want to go and buy the neuro/cranium version too, just because it is so good
A++++++
I have learned so much from this book!.......2007-03-22
I asked my physical therapist "what is this bone that I feel here ..." and he showed me the Thieme Atlas of Anatomy.
Wow -- this book has helped me understand and visualize my body. I've looked at a lot of books on ballet and dance, to understand my movement, to identify my aches, and to improve my stretching. This book is by far the best I've seen. I have spent hours studying it to understand the relationships between bone and muscle.
I gave a copy to my dance coach as a gift, and she was thrilled. She has many anatomy books; some of them cost well over a hundred dollars. This is now the best in her collection, too.
You will not be disappointed if you buy this book.
Incredible.......2006-08-27
I am a second year medical student and had the good fortune of using this book last year. In medicine, it is imperative to understand fascial layers and the relationships between different anatomical structures, this book provides that beautifully. This past week, I glanced through a pre-shipment of the neck and internal organ version and to my surprise it was even better than the General Anatomy version! Even though I am finished with Anatomy, I will be buying the new book for my reference.
Move over Netter and Gray's Thieme is the new standard.
Book Description
Head and Neuroanatomy, the third book in the THIEME Atlas of Anatomy series, combines concise explanatory text with stunning illustrations and key applications for the clinical setting. A stepwise organization guides the reader through the anatomy of the head, from cranial bones, ligaments, and joints to muscles, cranial nerves, topographical anatomy, and the anatomy of sensory organs. Comprehensive coverage of neuroanatomy describes isolated structures and also situates these structures within the larger functional systems.

Best on the market.......2007-04-02
This series from Thieme (this is the third book) so far surpasses every other illustrated anatomy, comparisons are almost pointless. Get all three, learn them, pass your exams.

Good, but could have been better.......2004-03-17
Great book with a great insight into Schuey's life (also privat life), but for me it is too much of a picture book rather than a 'serious' biography of a racing driver. Maybe it's just me, but I would have preferred a more informative autobiography about how he has seen his racing career so far and certain situations. I dream of a Schuey autobiography in which he goes through all of his races, his entire career.
I hope we will get one in the future...

Okay.......2007-01-10
This book is okay for a real Eric Clapton fan. There are not a lot of pictures, so if you want a more visual book, you may want to select another.
enjoyable reading about the guitarist/singer.......2007-01-03
I always enjoy reading books on amazing musicians/people and this one held my interest. I am not a book critic who analyzes details of every page. I will simply say I liked the book. I save my analysis for the music. Eric's music has always been fine for me. Historical anecdotes and biographical information in the book pointing out Eric's influences and life events are well written and readable.
Insightful.......2006-07-06
A fascinating journey into the life of Eric Clapton. As someone who has been an avid Clapton fan from the beginning, it was quite interesting to read about his growth and evolution as a musician over the years and with his different groups. I was fascinated to discover that he did not think he was lead guitar material and that he lacked confidence regarding his vocal abilities. This is a book which will stimulate discussion among friends and have you running to your music collection to listen to old songs yet once again, while eagerly awaiting a new Clapton release.
Very Comprehensive.......2001-09-09
This biography is indeed very informative. The details on Eric's life are very complete. One can see how Eric's small stature and limited coordination stunted his confidence at the beginning of his music career. In the Yardbirds, Cream, and Blind Faith, Eric was content just to be a part of the band. I especially enjoyed Delaney Bramlett's influence on Eric's vocal development. And of course the Layla stories are always a joy to read. The feelings behind many of Eric's signature songs are a joy to read over and over again.
The only slight drawback in this book is the fact that the author discounts the There's One In Every Crowd CD. Truthfully, I find it an underatted gem. Otherwise, Michael Schumacher does an excellent job.
GREAT. NEUTRAL STORY TELLING OF ERIC'S LIFE.......2001-08-16
THis book is very good. Schumache portrays Clapton as a musician and man, nothing going into the cheap way of focusing the book around gossips. Even the subject of Conor's death is treated decently. Also, he gives a good portrait of Eric's band mates along time, all his influences, a brief analysis of each album recorded, etc. It's a shame that Clapton didn't give any personal interviews for the book, that I think is best than Ray Coleman's offical biography.
Book Description
This biography of Michael Schumacher describes all of his childhood, his exceptional career, and his secrets. It exists since 1997 and has been fully updated at the end of the 2006 seasons - and possibly Michael's 8th world title.

Thirty years after the most legendary shipwreck on
America
’s inland waters. Michael Schumacher examines the productive life and untimely demise of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The disappearance of the Edmund Fitzgerald remains one of the great unsolved mysteries in maritime history. The specifics of what happened to the “Mighty Fitz” in the early hours of November 10, 1975, will never be known. What we do know: The Edmund Fitzgerald, a massive ore carrier, had been fighting its way through a pounding November storm on Lake Superior. She was losing ground—the Fitz’s radar was out, and she had taken on water in the midst of gale-force winds and mountainous seas—but there was no reason to think she wouldn’t find safe harbor at Whitefish Point, Michigan. Last word from the ship’s captain: “We are holding our own.” Suddenly the ship disappeared from radar. By all indications, the 29-man crew had no idea they were in mortal danger, and they nosedived to Lake Superior’s bottom before they could call for help. A massive search ensued but failed to find a single survivor. Michael Schumacher relays in vivid detail the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald, its many productive years on the waters of the Great Lakes, its tragic demise, the search effort and investigation, as well as the speculation and the controversy that followed in the wake of the disaster.
Customer Reviews:
Mighty Fitz does a mighty good job.......2007-08-26
Mighty Fitz is a good, balance telling of the story of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, the loss of which was made famous by the Gordon Lightfoot song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Mr. Schumacher presents the several theories of her sinking and details the human aspects of this story well. His research is correct (I compared both the US Coast Guard loss report and the final NTSB reports to his recounting) and delivered in a very readable manner. He uses "real English" and doesn't get overly technical which makes this a great read for anyone who loves stories of the sea (or the Great Lakes in this case).
The Titanic of the Great Lakes.......2007-08-02
On a blustery day in November, 1975, two ships, the Arthur Anderson and the Edmund Fitzgerald, set off across Lake Superior with their cargoes. Only one ship would reach its destination. The other would founder under the weight of an incredible November storm and would go on to live in the memory of every other Great Lakes sailor. This book tells the story of the Fitzgerald and how its legacy has lived on for over three decades.
The Fitz was loaded with 26,000 tons of taconite pellets which were to be delivered to Indiana. After receiving its load, Captain Ernest McSorley manuvered the ship out onto Lake Superior and began his journey across the lake. At this time, a massive storm, fed by unseasonably mild southwest winds, began to push northward. While this storm was proceeding northward, a cold Canadian air mass was making its way south. These two fronts collided and unleashed its powerful fury across Lake Superior. For the men of the Anderson and Fitzgerald, they were now finding themselves smashed by winds approaching 90 miles per hour.
The Anderson handled the storm well, but the Fitzgerald was not as fortunate. The winds blew the radar antennas off the ship, and water was entering the cargo hold. As each burst of water fell into the hold, the ship began to settle deeper in the water. However, McSorley didn't seem overly concerned about his situation. He still maintained radio contact with the Anderson and, around 7:00 p.m. on November 9, 1975, told Bernie Cooper, Anderson's captain, that they were holding their own. This was the last communication received from the Fitzgerald.
Shortly thereafter, the Fitzgerald was hit by two mammoth waves. The first pushed the Fitzgerald's bow underwater. It never re-surfaced. The second wave sent the crippled ship straight to the bottom of Lake Superior. No one survived; no one tried to abandon ship. It all happened in a matter of mere minutes.
Days later, some debris from the wreck was retrieved and everyone's worst fears were realized; the Fitz was lost.
Many different investigations were held into the loss of the ship, but none could offer a firm explanation as to how the ship sank, but the most commonly accepted theory is that water entered the cargo hold through the hatch covers, causing the ship to lose buoyancy and, ultimately, to sink.
Over the years, many undersea expeditions have taken place, which have brought back many underwater images of the Fitz. The ship's bell was retrieved and restored as a memorial to the men who served aboard her. And, the families of the survivors have petitioned to have the wreck recognized as a grave site, which would end further exploration of the wreck.
This is a fine book. The author does an exemplary job of describing the Fitzgerald's early days on the Great Lakes through its perilous journey across Lake Superior on that fateful night in November, 1975. The aftermath, investigations, and dives on the ship are also described in great detail.
I give this book my highest recommendation. Read this book and experience the true plight of the Edmund Fitzgerald. In the words of Gordon Lightfoot "The lake it is said never gives up her dead when the skies of November turn gloomy".
Uninspired and uninformative--stay clear of these shallow waters.......2007-01-02
This is nothing more than a genre book--and a tired one at that. Mighty Fritz reads like a laundry list of seafaring cliches: the "large boat"; the industry which demands results; the simple, honest, hardworking folks that work the waters... all put together with the insight and creativity that makes the local nightly news sparkle by comparison.
A capable author could surely have written a wonderful book about the Edmund Fitzgerald and the history of culture of the great lakes. This is not that book. The history/science is light, mostly told through quotes, and none of the characters have been developed beyond rough stereotypes.
I finally ran aground at page 140--I'd suggest that you not venture into these waters.
Moving, yet factual.......2006-10-30
Being originally from Michigan, I've always been touched by the story of the shipwreck of the Edmund Fitzerald. It happened when I was 10 years old, and I don't even remember the news reports, only how often my sister and I played the Gordon Lightfoot 45 over and over. Michael Schumacher has done justice to the story, and most importantly, the crew, by detailing not just what were thought to be the events surrounding the sinking, but giving insight into the investigations, and the lives of the crew and family. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in shipwreck and/or Great Lakes history, and anyone else who enjoys well-researched and well-written non-fiction.
Great gift.......2006-08-03
I purchased this book as a gift for my son-in-law for his birthday. (He had worked on a Great Lakes freighter in the past). I kept picking the book up and reading parts of it before I gave it away. I have since ordered another one for myself. We have quite a bit of maritime history in our family and we do not live far from the museum where the bell from the Fitzgerald is housed. Brings back many memories of the lakes. The writing flows well and it personalizes the crew as well as tells the story of the disaster that befell the Fitzgerald.

Book Description
The public perception is that juvenile crime is out-of- hand and that no one can do anything about it. Research, however, shows that a mere 8% of juvenile offenders arrested and sent to juvenile court commit more than half of all repeat juvenile crimes, including violence. And, something is being done about it! The surprising fact is that this "8%" can be picked out at the time of their first arrest. This book represents seven years of research on 6,400 young people having their first brush with the law in Orange County, California. It provides an exemplary state-supported model now used in six other California counties to curb the rise in the arrest of kids.
A practical, commonsense guide, this book focuses on long-term solutions to the problem of serious repeat juvenile crime and offers a proven pathway for improvement.
The 8% Solution informs students, policy makers, criminal justice professionals, juvenile courts, probation departments, and parents of how to mount a successful response. Written in narrative style with a liberal use of anecdotal incidents, this is an easy-to-read description of the characteristics of kids who repeatedly get in trouble with the law and more cost-effective ways to correct the problem.
Book Description
This fully updated edition of this important and successful book explores in depth the 2002 season as Michael Schumacher equaled Juan-Manuel Fangio's record of five Formula 1 World Championships and 2003 when, after early euphoria, he faced one of the hardest fights of his career against his brother Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya, both driving for Williams, and young Kimi Raikkonen in the McLaren.

Delves on how Schumacher stacks up against the best drivers
of all time. Contains some interesting anecdotes about
Schumacher finishing a race in the top 10 with the car stuck
in 5th gear! Could have added more anecdotes though. Interesting read nonetheless, finished it in one sitting.

The terrible fact about Francis Ford Coppola's career is that it will always be divided evenly in half, down a line called Apocalypse Now. Before that film is prodigious promise--an Academy Award for writing Patton, two uncannily fine Godfather movies, and the Antonioni-esque smallness of The Conversation. After, there is telescoping debt, talk of reinventing the studios, and multiple, hollow exercises in style. If that's a tough assessment, it's one borne out by this thick, fair biography. The author, Michael Schumacher, who has previously published books on Allen Ginsberg and Eric Clapton, makes much of Coppola's boyhood spell of polio, from which he emerged miraculously healthy and movie-mad. He orchestrated his life thereafter with a consequent mania, as though making up for lost time. While still in film school, he sold screenplays and made Z-budget drive-in movies for Roger Corman. In two years, he wrote 12 scripts for 7 Arts, and in the mid-1960s started a family, made You're a Big Boy Now and Finian's Rainbow, pushed George Lucas to write THX1138, founded American Zoetrope, and took a job, purely for the money, directing The Godfather. The chapters on Apocalypse Now are the book's highlights, and without saying as much they explain the spent quality at the core of Coppola's films in the next two decades. After hurricanes in Manila, Marlon Brando, and the ungodly beauty of those helicopters at dawn, whose career wouldn't wing straight to twilight? --Lyall Bush
Book Description
Francis Ford Coppola: A Filmmaker’s Life is the first complete picture of the internationally renowned and controversial cinematic genius who directed such films as the Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, and dozens more -- some wildly successful, some utterly disastrous. He is Hollywood’s perennial outsider, admired and respected for his courage and individualism, but still criticized for being a gambler in a business where success is measured by box-office receipts.
Michael Schumacher tells the entire history of this masterful filmmaker. Coppola reveals for the first time:
* The whole story of his early years, including his “skin flick,” his slasher movie, and his years with Roger Corman.
* The reason behind the most controversial casting decision of his career: putting his daughter, Sofia, in The
Godfather, Part III.
* The impact of the loss of his son, Gio, on his work and his life.
With unprecedented access to Coppola’s friends, critics, peers, casts, and crews, Schumacher creates an irresistible read, showing all the aspects of one of the most complex, conflicted filmmakers of our time.

Francis Ford Coppola: Hollywood Godfather of Creative Genius.......2006-05-31
Francis Ford Coppola was born in a great year for the movies!
In 1939 the director was born to Carmen Coppola and his wife
Italia. His parents were creative-Carmen was a musician in the
Detroit Symphony and later in the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Arturo Toscanini. Carmen would later win a musical
Oscar for the Godfather films.
Francis was a younger son to his older brother who was everything Francis wasn't: handsome and well liked at school.
His sister Talia Shire would later be a movie star in his own
films most notably the Godfather classics.
Coppola graduated from Hofstra and received a master's degree
in film from the UCLA film school. His early apprenticship in
film was under the tutelage of famed B director Roger Corman.
Coppolla emerged from nudie films and small pictures to direct
"Finigan's Rainbow" and began to emerge as a talented maverick
whose creative/artistic wings were flying in the early 1970s.
Despite arduous business and creative troubles he won fame and fortune and several Oscars for the Godfather films. His most
controversial film was "Apocalypse Now" his take on the Vietnam
conflict based on Joseph Conrad's novella "The Heart of Darkness."
Coppola's career has more ups and downs than a roller coaster
as he founded Zoetrope Films in San Francisco and went to the
mat in countless donybrook battles with studio executives.
Coppola reminds me of Orson Welles in that he achieved fame early and then had a difficult career in tinsel town. He is a
man of massive ego; intelligence; daring and creative attention
to the details/minutia of film. He was unfaithful to his wife
Ellie; grieved over a son yet emerges from this biography as a
flawed but good man. He is gregarious and honest and a good
friend. His friendship assisted George Lucas in launching his
storied career! I like Coppola's rich textured films. His screenwriting from Patton to his latest project is outstanding.
This meticulous account of Coppola's career in the Hollywood jungle will not appeal to everyone. Countless pages are devoted to business deals, legal disputes and the difficulties encountered by Coppola in making his films.
For me who loves the Godfather and FFC this is a fine book.
Anyone who seeks to explore this brilliant man's career would do
well to begin with Schumacher's fine biograpy.
Apocalypse When.......2000-04-08
I thought this biography was detailed mostly around this film. On page 262, first paragraph, I think Mr. Coppola would agree to mention the fact that "The Chief Phillips" made a life last attempt to end Willard after getting speared on the boat by Kurtz's mongrules. Overall, the book was a manificant biography of a Itailian-American film maker of our time.
A TOTAL mystery..........2000-02-05
...and I hope he stays that way. Francis Ford Coppola is one of the inspirations of my life. His energy and enthusiasm for what he does outshines even the projects many might deride. One thing you have to say is at LEAST he puts his all into what he does, and I'd imagine no one would doubt this. PS: WHEN is the UNCUT version of "One From the Heart" going to be issued on DVD?
Schumacher got it right.......1999-12-16
I work for Francis Coppola today and know him pretty well. Michael Schumacher's book really captures the spirit and energy of this facinating and complex man. I have read most of the other Coppola books and none combines an understanding for both the human and artistic side of Francis.
This book, like no other I have read, reflects the passion, energy and chaos of the Coppola world. I can tell you from the inside there is no more exciting experience than being part of the Coppola energy. Francis loves to tackle the "impossible" and never gives up. I particularly like this book because it is clear that the author, like myself, has great respect for this whirlwind of a man.
