5 out of 5 stars Episcopal Church.......2007-10-18

This book is a lot of short essays or sermons by the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (written before she was elected, I believe). Many are powerful, inspiring and/or thought-provoking.

5 out of 5 stars Christianity for the rest of us.......2007-08-18

What a blessing to read a book that reveals a Christian faith based on Jesus' example of infinite love. In this day of many loud and forthright fundamentalist proclamations about who is going to be damned, who is not "right with the Lord", and who is just not as good as they should be, it is wonderful to read a clear and humble doctrine of love. None of us are as good as we should be, but the Reverend Schori seems to tell us some ways to try.

4 out of 5 stars Hopefilled wings and prayers.......2007-05-29

The sermon/ meditations are moving and inspiring. They give great hope not only for the Episcopal Church but also for Christians and other people of faith. It would have been helpful to have scripture references with the chapter titles.

5 out of 5 stars A Wing and a Prayer: A Message of Faith and Hope.......2007-04-09

The author is authentic and inspiring with real life spiritual experiences. I can certainly see why she became a Bishop! Her "feel" for the downtrodden transforms her readers into not only people of faith, but people of action. Her communication skills help differing views to come together as the Lord would have us do. I liked the book a lot!

5 out of 5 stars True leadership for Episcopalians and other believers.......2007-04-07

Katherine Jefferts Schori has collected in this small volume an assortment of meditations, homilies, and thoughts challenging one to find ways be a Christian in today's world. Building on a person's Baptismal vows and our Lord's call to ministry, both lay and ordained, our Presiding Bishop reveals her deep faith and belief that the church is on the brink of many exciting new works, serving the world. Throughout the book is her belief in the total ministry of the whole church. Laced with illustrations from her personal experieces as an oceanographer, lay leader, priest, and bishop. she calls all Christians to roll up their sleeves and get involved serving the poor, needy, forgotten, and destitute. It is inspiring to find such down-to-earth love for the church and its Lord in a Presiding Bishop. I was reminded often of the passion and strength of John Hines while reading her call to faith and action. This little book deserves wide-spread study throughout the church by lay and clergy alike. It served me well as a Lenten book of meditation. My only suggestion would be to incorporate more Biblical chapter and verse where they are often missing.

Book Description

"Hillary Clinton Nude: Naked Ambition, Hillary Clinton and America's Demise" is a blockbuster literary exploration of the most controversial politician in America. Stripping away the veils of imagery which mask the imperfections of Hillary Rodham Clinton, "Hillary Clinton Nude" presents a non-partisan yet passionate case against a second Clinton presidency. Author Sheldon Filger has written a bombshell of a political book, conveying a warning to the American people of the dire risks to the nation's continuity should the former First Lady succeed in fulfilling her ultimate political ambition. More than just another Hillary Clinton book, "Hillary Clinton Nude" is a sobering commentary on the state of American politics in the new century, and the influence of money, image making and celebrity power in the debasement of meaningful political discussion in the United States. Democrats, Republicans and independent voters will discover much to reflect on in this incisive and revealing book. The 2008 presidential elections may be among the most decisive in America's post-war history. Do not go to the polls without arming yourself with the knowledge found in Sheldon Filger's incisive book, "Hillary Clinton Nude."

4 out of 5 stars SOBERING WARNINGS.......2007-06-15

Sad, but true : Hillary Rodham is a menacing presence on the American political landscape; and so books like this serve as important warnings to all Americans, and to all freedom loving people on earth. This book, presented as fact, is strikingly similar to a book of fact-based fiction in that both are clearly intended as "warning calls" (or "sobering warnings") about Hillary; but the other book, entitled THE EMPRESS PROJECT, goes farther in its analysis and shows how a foreign power (Red China) is meddling covertly and dangerously in domestic American politics and using a home grown American citizen as its political "proxy". Is the message of THE EMPRESS PROJECT true? Is the message of this book by Sheldon Filger really factually correct? Maybe readers should read both, reflect on both, and draw their own conclusions.......The Empress Project

5 out of 5 stars IS HILLARY ELECTABLE?.......2007-04-20

One of the main reasons that George W. Bush was elected president was because of the country's guilt that they had elected Bill Clinton instead of Bush Sr. It was the country's way of recognizing that they made a tragic mistake by voting for Bill Clinton. The election of Bill Clinton's wife would be a travesty for the country because it is so shamefully obvious that Hillary used her position as First Lady to justify her husband's shameful behavior and ran for Senator of NY just to position herself to run for President. The Clintons have no shame. I hope that the American people will not fall for them a second time. We need a true leader that will serve the American people well.

3 out of 5 stars Essential insights, but with some weaknesses.......2007-01-01

Like another reviewer, I was contacted by author Sheldon Filger and invited to read and review "Hillary Clinton Nude." This is a valuable addition to the shelf of books about HRC. While it has a number of significant weaknesses, this volume also has significant strengths. It's up to the individual reader to decide how best to balance the two.

Perhaps paradoxically, "Hillary Clinton Nude" is both passionate and dispassionate: passionate in the strength of the language, in the author's commitment to his principles and beliefs, and in his conviction that the election of President Hillary Rodham Clinton would be an unmitigated disaster for the United States. At the same time, though, Filger is dispassionate in that he -- unlike many other writers on HRC -- is not a member of the fabled "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy." In fact, the vituperation Filger directs at Hillary is rivaled only by the scorn he directs at George W. Bush. "Hillary Clinton Nude" cannot, therefore, be dismissed as a GOP hit-piece or a brief on behalf of some other, competing, presidential candidate.

The author makes a persuasive case that lacking any demonstrable skills, training, opinions, or even basic understanding of the vital issues of economics and international relations, the only thing HRC can build a presidential campaign on is nostalgia for her husband's years in office. As Slick Willie's most attentive student, Hillary is mastering, Filger argues, the Clintonian Method of obfuscation, name-calling, smoke-and-mirrors, and (especially) a highly selective use of history, including but not limited to outright lies about facts, situations, and people.

Sheldon Filger is committed to setting the record straight, and so devotes considerable ink to laying out the facts about half-forgotten Clintonian scandals like the White House travel office firings, Hillary's commodities-futures windfall, Pardongate, and of course, Monica and impeachment. Of course, Filger thereby leaves himself open to the Clinton-defenders' time-tested charge that he is "obsessing over old news" while HRC herself is focused on the future. Given Filger's thesis of the importance of Clinton-nostalgia to HRC's own presidential hopes, however, I think he's done exactly the right thing.

As I said, however, this book also has a number of weaknesses. Some of them, I admit, are matters of taste. But there are substantive omissions as well.

For one thing, Filger's prose is, if not purple, certainly redolent of lavender: "Given the constellation of storm clouds gathering on the horizon of the new century, having a mediocre and politically ambitious megalomaniac figure making the key decisions of state is an alignment with catastrophe. It is also a rash gamble with history. If, indeed, the contemporary world resembles the apocalyptic dynamics that existed in the summer of 1914, then the admixture of nuclear armaments portents [sic] a cataclysm that will be vastly more devastating to humanity" (p. 179).

As another matter of taste, I wasn't thrilled by the cover illustration by Molly Crabapple. It makes it too easy for critics to dismiss the whole book as an unattractive hit piece while ignoring the substance within. Certainly, I'm not going to leave this just sitting around on my desk at work.

Among the substantive topics Filger doesn't address, one key one is Hillary's alleged "move to the center" in the Senate. It seems obvious that this is part of Clinton's decades-long effort to disguise her true radicalism, but it will also be a centerpiece of her presidential campaign. A discussion of this question would seem to be in order.

Most fundamentally, I did not come away from this book with a clear idea of whether Filger believes that, deep down in her soul, Hillary really *believes* in anything more than her own ambition. For the vital distinction, I've always believed, between Pudge and Ruffles (wish I could remember who coined those nicknames) is that whereas he is an opportunist with no firm beliefs, Hillary is a true ideological warrior.

Other writers, from Barbara Olsen to R.E. Tyrrell, have done great work tracing Hillary's growth as what Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn described as a "Christian Social Romantic." In this understanding, HRC's Methodist upbringing was filtered through the tactical genius of Saul Alinsky to create a person driven by a true spiritual fanaticism. I think this is the only real explanation for HRC's distinctive drive, her determination not just to confront, but ultimately to destroy, anyone who disagrees with her or opposes her utopian vision: she sees them, in a very real sense, as fundamentally, theologically, evil. I believe that this is the key to understanding Hillary Clinton. I'm not sure, though, whether Sheldon Filger agrees.

Finally, I need to point out that this book lacks footnotes, endnotes, bibliography, and index. Clearly a lot of research went into preparing this, but it is impossible for a reader to track the author's sources.

This is a quite long review because I appreciate the author's request for my opinion of his work. What Sheldon Filger has produced is a strong, well-argued, and unquestionably important book. With some work on what I consider the book's shortcomings, a second edition could easily warrant four or even five stars.

5 out of 5 stars The One Indespensible Book on Hillary Rodham Clinton.......2006-12-01

Of all the many books on Hillary Clinton, pro and con, this is the one essential read on the aspiring presidential candidate for thinking people on both the Right and Left. Devastatingly critical of Hillary Clinton, but without an ideological axe to grind, Sheldon Filger skillfully presents a case against another Clinton presidential administration that defies partisanship. Thoroughly researched and convincingly written, the author goes beyond the usual critique of Hillary. He identifies the critical challenges that America will confront in the next decade, than proceeds with an ironclad case as to why Hillary Clinton is intellectually and experientially ill equipped to provide the quality of leadership America must have in its next president. Reading like a thriller, this book presents a chilling scenario for America's future should Hillary Clinton be elected as president. Every thinking person, irrespective of their party affiliation, will find Filger's book a sobering and thought-provoking overview of what is at stake in the 2008 election.

5 out of 5 stars A Thoughtful Look at a Serious Subject .......2006-11-08

In the interests of full disclosure, I was sent a copy of this book by the author and asked to review it. I'm glad he did becauise I probably would never have found it on my own. Books on Mrs. Clinton are plentiful. Some are hit pieces. Some are laudatory. This one is dispassionate and sobering.

Mr. Filger is no Right Wing writer (and therefore not a member of the vast Right Wing Conspiracy which was born from Mrs. Clinton's mouth in defense of her husband's filanderings).

One only has to read his take on the decision to go to war in Iraq and the execution of that war to understand that. George W. Bush, Richard Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are fully filigreed by Mr. Filger concerning their involvement in what he clearly considers was an egregous error... "America's invasion of Iraq in 2003 was anchored in neocon delusions. Born of the ambition of a reckless and ignorant man, under the influence of a narrow minded clique of bloodthirsty noncombatants and propelled by outright deception of the American people, the enterprise was doomed to failure." Is that plain enough for you?

Filger then goes on to show how Mrs. Clinton manuvered herself to be in support of the war for political reasons and how she has since that time somewhat inartfully tried to extract herself from that position.

Chapter and verse follow which trace Mrs. Clintons attitudes, deceptions, duplicity and ambition. It is sobering and it is delivered in such a way that one has no doubt as to it's veracity. Likewise sobering is his warning that if Mrs. Clinton's political ambitions triumph, the demise of America is assurred.

His final warning is chilling..."Should the American people in their rightousness render a decision in 2008 that reverses the pattern of the past twenty years, renewal and revival await a long-suffering nation. If however, the people fail to exercise their constitutional and civic duty at the ballot boxes with discretion and wisdom, thus allowing Hillary Rodham Clinton to triumph, only ruination and national demise can follow in her wake."

It will be worth your time to see how the author arrives at this conclusion. You may agree with it or not, however he will make you think about the matter seriously. As we all should.

Post Script: I would have preferred a different title and a different cover. This is a serious book which appears somewhat frivilous in it's appearance. Just my opinion.

These are a collection of nice but hardly miraculous stories. It's too bad the word miraculous has been cheapened so much.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely a must to read!.......2001-07-28

This book has uplifted me during trying times. I have seen God's miracles as well but during trials can forget to "hand it over" and trust in His faithfulness. These stories helped me, for example when I was moving to another state with much reluctance, by telling of another persons similar experience along with the outcome which helped encourage my heart and remind me that God has a perfect plan in all things. It helped me to change my heart from fearing to trusting God's direction for me. The stories are rich though not too long in length. It reminds me of the daily devotionals that are quick to read but are rich in depth.

5 out of 5 stars What a blessing this book is!.......2000-12-22

It was pretty amazing to read stories about myself and some special people in my life, published in such a wonderful book full of God's miracles. Candy wrote the stories exactly as I shared them, from my heart. Her book really shows the power of prayer, faith and the astounding love of God. Not only did she publish stories I gave her, but also stories that my daughter, Devonne shared with her. Devonne and I both feel it was a privilege to share our miracles! If you want to reaffirm your faith, your love for God, you'll surely do that after reading the awesome stories in this book.

The true stories are a testament to the world's everyday living. I am hopeful and confident Ms. Chand will publish many more exceptional books!

The Wings of the Dove is a classic example of Henry James's morality tales that play off the naiveté of an American protagonist abroad. In early-20th-century London, Kate Croy and Merton Densher are engaged in a passionate, clandestine love affair. Croy is desperately in love with Densher, who has all the qualities of a potentially excellent husband: he's handsome, witty, and idealistic--the one thing he lacks is money, which ultimately renders him unsuitable as a mate. By chance, Croy befriends a young American heiress, Milly Theale. When Croy discovers that Theale suffers from a mysterious and fatal malady, she hatches a plan that can give all three characters something that they want--at a price. Croy and Densher plan to accompany the young woman to Venice where Densher, according to Croy's design, will seduce the ailing heiress. The two hope that Theale will find love and happiness in her last days and--when she dies--will leave her fortune to Densher, so that he and Croy can live happily ever after. The scheme that at first develops as planned begins to founder when Theale discovers the pair's true motives shortly before her death. Densher struggles with unanticipated feelings of love for his new paramour, and his guilt may obstruct his ability to avail himself of Theale's gift. James deftly navigates the complexities and irony of such moral treachery in this stirring novel.

Book Description

(Book Jacket Status: Jacketed)

Of the three late masterpieces that crown the extraordinary literary achievement of Henry James, The Wings of the Dove (1902) is at once the most personal and the most elemental. James drew on the memory of a beloved cousin who died young to create one of the three central characters, Milly Theale, an heiress with a short time to live and a passion for experiencing life to its fullest. To the creation of the other two, Merton Densher and the magnificent, predatory Kate Croy, who conspire in an act of deceit and betrayal, he brought a lifetime's distilled wisdom about the frailty of the human soul when it is trapped in the depths of need and desire. And he brought to the drama that unites these three characters, in the drawing rooms of London and on the storm-lit piazzas of Venice, a starkness and classical purity almost unprecedented in his work. Under its brilliant, coruscating surfaces, beyond the scrim of its marvelous rhetorical and psychological devices, The Wings of the Dove offers an unfettered vision of our civilization and its discontents. It represents a culmination of James's art and, as such, of the art of the novel itself.

5 out of 5 stars To Betray Others Is To Betray Yourself.......2006-08-14

By the time Henry James had written WINGS OF THE DOVE in 1902, most of his best work was behind him. In many of these novels and short stories, James had shown a fascination with the theme of the new world American bumping into the old world European. Just as James himself seemed unable to label himself definitively as one or the other, so do many of his characters muck about with some Americans coming off as country bumpkins while other Americans have old-world fineness and grace hardwired into their genes. In WINGS OF THE DOVE, Milly Theale is an American heiress whose inner qualities James deliberately obscures. She is wealthy, beautiful, good-hearted--and dying. Milly seems too good to be true, and of course she is; she suffers not only from the dread disease of cancer but the equally dread disease of emotional blindness. Milly decides to take a trip to Europe, where she encounters her doppleganger, Kate Croy. Millie sees Kate as having a feral aggressiveness that Millie admires but can never duplicate. Yet, both Kate and Millie soon discover points in common: they like and admire one another, and more disturbingly they both love the same man, Merton Densher. James complicates the plot in a manner worthy of a soap opera. Kate discovers that Millie is dying and hatches a plan breathtaking in its audacity. Merton, who is both poor and secretly engaged to Kate, must worm his way into the affections of Millie, whom he will marry. Then, after her expected demise, he will inherit Millie's fortune, and thus be free to marry Kate.

The problem with this plan becomes clear when we find out that it is one thing for two otherwise honorable people to contemplate deceitful actions and quite another for them to actually have the mental toughness to carry it out. James keeps the reader involved in this unlikely plan by shifting focus from victim to plotter. Millie is so good so kind that her only flaw is her inability to see what is right in front of her nose and yet this is quite enough to cause her undoing. If Kate were no more than a heartless backstabber, then the novel would have a huge hole in the plot where there ought to be some convincing motivation. James sidesteps this dilemma by making both Merton and Kate fully rounded characters, both of whom are fully aware of what they are doing and why, but unable to come up with another scenario that would permit them to marry. Kate is now the dramatic center. It is she who sizes up her own unhappy situation. It is she who correctly assesses Millie's feelings for Merton. And it is she who weighs cost versus benefit and decides that the latter outweighs the former. Of course, their plans go predictably awry when Millie discovers their plan and breaks up with Merton. Millie dies, and astoundingly, her will yet provides money for Merton. And it is here that James allows the moneyed world of the obtuse American to meld with that of the flawed but decent European. Kate and Merton then must ponder whether their consciences will permit them to accept the largesse of a woman who has forgiven them from beyond the grave.

WINGS OF THE DOVE is a superb novel that explores what it means to be kind and decent. For those who might be inclined to these noble qualities, Henry James suggests that decency and self-interest need not be mutually exclusive so long as one can be honest enough with all concerned. Such difficult questions are not limited only to a Kate and Merton who must stare at an envelope and decide whether it holds their future or their past.

2 out of 5 stars A real slog.......2005-07-08

I know H. James is considered one of the "Greats" of American literature and I question my taste for hating most of his writing. With few exceptions I think he is a pretentious purveyor of obscurantism. I read Wings of the Dove many years ago in the days when I would not allow myself to set aside books I did not enjoy. I recently picked up a collection of his short stories and remembered why I disliked him so much. Now in my old age I had no pangs of conscience when I happily closed the book before finishing it. If more of the stories had been like Daisy Miller I would have proceeded further but unfortunately much of the writing reminded me of Wings. I am currently seeking relief from Henry's turgid prose by reading Hemingway. I'd trade in a Henry for an Ernie any day. It's also difficult to like Mr. James' snobbish, shallow and unsympathetic characters. The more sympathetic ones were obscured by his heavy hand and my impatience with his style.

4 out of 5 stars Worth it if you work for it.......2004-01-23

You really have to work for what you get out of this book. The thick prose is difficult, and the long, rambling sentences and page-and-a-half paragraphs require the whole of the reader's attention. This is certainly not a book that I would be able to read on a trip, in a public place, or when I'm tired. That having been said, this is a great piece of literature that demonstrates an interesting contrast in European and American society. The story revolves around a conspiracy by two individuals, Kate Croy and Merton Densher (both Londoners), against a young, rich American girl named Milly. The ultimate goal of these two is to get the dying Milly's vast fortune for themselves when she dies. Densher, who is not a wealthy man, would by gaining Milly's fortune to gain enough social standing to gain the consent of Kate's rich aunt Maud for Kate's hand in marriage.

The motives of the pair are not completely selfish. Milly is dying, it is true, but as long as she enjoys life she does well, and the doctor pronounces that the more joy she can have, the better. Kate is a good friend of Milly's, and knows (or at least thinks) that her last days will be happy with even the artificial love of Densher.

The contrast between American and European society comes in the question of social standing. As Maud puts it, and as everyone understands it, Densher is not 'good enough' for Kate. Milly, though many times more wealthy, has no such scruples, and the common Densher is plenty good for her, even though she's also being pursued by a nobleman named Lord Mark. Milly sees Densher's personality as the core of her fondness for him, and cares nothing for his social standing. Maud, though she really likes Densher, will not consent to Kate's marriage to him for the simple fact that he is, essentially, nobody.

The ultimate distinction between Europe and America is the fact that the Europeans, especially Aunt Maud, will do nothing for anybody unless it will somehow benefit themselves. Maud is a grand hostess, and a generous woman, but only when it works to her advantage. The climax of the novel is when Milly proves herself the stronger in character, by committing an act so charitable, though she knows of the plot against her, that only Densher can truly understand it, and Kate is left at a loss. Densher and Kate have a chance to redeem themselves, and the truly climactic finish of the novel is an interesting look at how the Londoners (Kate and Densher), so different in social standing, deal with this chance.

Overall this is a very good book. I would not call it an enjoyable read, because of the complex and often confusing prose, but it nevertheless is worth reading, both for the message it conveys and for the fascinating and multifaceted characters.

5 out of 5 stars tough but worthwhile.......2003-05-29

One of the great reads of Western literature is a beautiful love story of deceit and social requirements, containing James' most demanding narration. Travel carefully. A pure exercise in literary trickery becomes quite clear over time, even if, not every sentence will make sense. Amazing that such thick prose finally reveals a truly heartfelt story. The characters all speak like James writes: with commas in between their words. Good thing they're all fascinating enough to hold your attention.

5 out of 5 stars An Old-Fashioned Genius.......2003-05-22

Two responses to previous reviews: it was written one hundred years ago, so it would of course be somewhat dated. Second, you should perhaps READ THE ENTIRE BOOK before you attempt to review the text.

The text follows the fascinating development of a manipulation: Milly Theale, an American woman, enters the London scene, endowed with prodigious wealth, youth, and beauty, and several characters vie for her affection. It's a standard James plot in that way. Much like Portrait of a Lady, the wealthy American is exploited by her European acquaintances. Kate Croy convinces her lover Merton Densher to take advantage of Milly's interest in him, and to go so far as to attempt to marry the young American for her money. She is, after all, fatally and tragically ill. James brilliantly depicts the struggle between Densher, Kate Croy, her powerful Aunt Maud, the piquant Susan Shepherd, Sir Luke, and Lord Mark, and his characteristically enigmatic ending does not disappoint. James manages to breathe life into these odd characters in a way that so few writers can: his genius is for complex character, and this book embodies that genius at its height.

The trouble with the book, however, is that it does not qualify as a "light read." The pace is incredibly slow - deliberately slow, of course. It is a novel about decisions, and the development of those decisions constitutes the bulk of the novel. James's prose does lack the terseness of a Hemingway, but the latter writer often fails to capture the nuances that James so elaborately evokes in his careful prose.

James, like Faulkner, is not for the faint of heart. Some of his work is more accessible; readers in search of a more palatable James should look to Washington Square, What Maisie Knew, or his popular masterpiece, The Turn of the Screw. This novel does not fit easily into a category, and its principal interest is that very quality of inscrutability. It's not really a "British" or an "American" novel but contains elements of both. It's not "Modern" or "Victorian" but both. Originally published in 1902, it's also not easy to include him in either the 19th or the 20th century. He appears to be writing in both.

In short, then, it's not a light-hearted novel and the prose can be challenging at times. But I believe that the effort of reading this book is well rewarded.

    Book Description

This is a book about remembering what we have always known in our hearts but forgotten in our minds. That behind all appearances, beyond the illusion of separateness, we are one. We are one with ourselves, with each other, with the supernal light of creation. We are bridges between spriit and matter. We are the agents, the channels, the beings through which love manifests in this world. In this remembering lies our destiny, our hope, our joy and our healing.

The gorgeous evocative paintings in this book set it apart from all other meditative books I've read. My favorite picture is of a woman standing on a mountain with the sun above her head. This book proves that creativity and tranquillity of mind can be enhanced by beautiful colors and images. I've kept a journal since I was eight, and it was a useful tool because of the symbols in the back help you create your own multi-media journal.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Books Ever!!!.......2002-10-06

These are some of the best books I have ever read!!! One minute you are giggling, the next you are sobbing! Allison's adventures are so exciting to read, and once you start, you gotta read them all! Of any books I have ever read, I would recommend these first!

5 out of 5 stars koooool book!!!!!!!!! GREAT!!!!!!!.......2002-08-13

this was a good book. I could not put it down...It really was great because she goes through alot of struggles and still finally finds (part) of her family. You won't be sorry if you get it!

5 out of 5 stars VERY AWESOME AND COOL BOOK, THE BEST!!!.......2002-08-08

This is an awesome book. It is full of amazing suspense and drama, yet so realistic at the same time. Its not like those books that are too great to be true, and just aren't possible. When I read this book I was dying to get my hands on book No.2, and it leaves you with a melancholy feeling in your heart, because good things and bad things both happen at the same time and you end up not knowing how to feel. This book pitches you into the world of 14 year old Allison, who is the unhappy daughter of a movie star mother, and ends up making a treacherous journey across the country, to try to find the grandfather that she never knew she had. On the way she meets many other people and also finds who she is inside. This book is so real, you feel like you are living it with Allison. If the rest of the Allison Chronicles are like this, than these books will be high on my list with favorites. If you have read and liked books like these, than you will love these books. You won't be sorry you read them!!!

    5 out of 5 stars A Very Good Book.......2000-12-11

I loved this book! It may not be my favorite, but it's really close! Allison O'Brian is a really interesting and kind character. She wants to find her family if she has it and it's really adventurous and amazing! I really recommend this book to 11 or older, since I'm not 12 yet.

      1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware.......2006-11-04

After reading reviews from other buyers, I decided to buy this book. I love everything Christmas, I love romances, and I love Victoriana, so this series sounded like it was made for me. Since these books are advertised at Christian literature, I figured I could read them without having to slog through yet another poorly written and inappropriate sex scene to get on with the plot.
Unfortunately, in this series, you have to slog through one poorly conceived and even more poorly written religious diatribe after another to get through the "plot" (and I use the term "plot" loosely). The writing is amateurish, the plots repetitive, and the characters two dimensional. In short, there is just none of that "magic" that makes us want to read a book over and over again. It was such a disappointment to me! I was really looking forward to having a whole new series to read. Please don't waste your time or your money on this book. And if anyone does know some good Christian Christmas romances, please feel free to make a list! I get a lot of my books and movies from these lists. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Read ALL Heartquest!.......2003-11-15

I started with the Victorian Christmas Quilt. Now, I have read all of the Christmas anthologies that Heartquest sells! They are very heartwarming, and no smut or inappropriate language is included. Just nice, sweet romance stories. I would highly recommend anything by this company, but especially the anthologies!

      4 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Christmas Tradition.......2000-11-03

I so enjoyed A Victorian Christmas Tea that I had to read this one too. The stories are so fun and uplifting. This is a cozy, curl up by the fire and read kind of book. Easy and enjoyable reading. It isn't overly romantic/sensual, for those of us that are more conservative.

        Book Description

In December 2003, Luleta Brown experienced one of life’s worst personal tragedies: her healthy unborn son died unexpectedly, four days before his official due date. She was told it was a “vague” mishap.

The arrival of Luleta’s son was to have been the miraculous fulfillment of a long-awaited dream. The grief was profound, unlike any other grieving over death that she had ever experienced (and she had grieved over death many times).

The subsequent days and weeks were a struggle; many times she questioned her proven resiliency and deep-rooted coping skills. As much as she tried, she could not seem to get to the point of total acceptance of this tragedy. She refused to accept that her life could be put through such upheaval for no reason; she did not believe fate had the right to do that.

After an arduous battle, Luleta made the choice to create a reason; she had what she can only refer to as an epiphany — the experience of an insight — to write this book. While doing so, she discovered that the process of writing the poems was helping her to confront emotions she had not yet confronted; it felt like a cleansing process. Luleta was seized in a writing frenzy; she wrote all the time, practically non-stop. Many times, she thought she had covered all the essential areas, but then an important scenario would present itself, out of the blue, to be included; for example, “The Most Natural Question in the World” and “Norman.” Some topics are approached in a direct and candid way.

The poems in All Angels Have Wings explore the gamut of emotions that Luleta experienced and struggled with. It was truly a journey through grief to hope and to finally embracing life again in a real way.
