Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Product Description

Is a pirate's life for you? Here's how to live the life of a Caribbean pirate!
Think you know everything there is to know about pirates, do you? Well me bucko, you've got a lot to learn, and here's where you can drink your fill!

Recommended by Pat Croce (of Pirate Soul) and two leading pirate magazines (No Quarter Given and Pyrates Way), Caribbean Pirates is an engaging look at pirate history through the lens of the Disney film franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean -- explaining fact from Hollywood fiction. With art especially commissioned by former Disney Imagineer Tim Kirk and 145 color photos, this book not only features over four dozen essays about pirate life ("Were pirates really hung?" and "Were there cannibals in the Caribbean?") but also a wealth of information on how to talk, dress, and live like a pirate: drink your fill at festivals, cruises, and museums with pirate exhibits. The book concludes with recommended resources (books, movies, and websites). A "no holds barred" look at the colorful cutthroats that cruised and plundered the Caribbean!

4 out of 5 stars Thrilled to find Caribbean Pirates.......2007-09-05

This is a great book.
I found myself staying up till the wee hours reading George Beahm's Caribbean Pirates.

The art work is amazing. The lay out and presentation of information wonderfully done. The photos of Museum pieces and replica items are mesmerizing. Comparing reality/history to Disney's Pirate movies is great - so much to learn, so easily taught in this book.

I'd say anyone with even the slightest interest in Pirates should read or have this book read to them. Although maybe not an easy read for the very young, it is something they would enjoy.

I love the not quite hard back but not paperback cover, the heavy duty hi gloss pages. It is a well put together book all the way around.

5 out of 5 stars Success on the High Seas.......2007-07-19

George Beahm has successfully built upon the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise with this treasure filled book. Pirates of the Caribbean fans and pirate re-enactors alike will be thrilled by his effort. Mr. Beahm combines background stories of the production of the Disney films with historical references to the Golden Age of Piracy. This is the book I wish I had several years ago when I started doing pirate re-enactment.

There are a number of background stories interspersed throughout the book that POTC fans will enjoy such as where the ideas came from for Tia Dalma and Davy Jones. There is a detailed section on how to dress like Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa, and Elizabeth Swann. Photos and explanations of movie artifacts like the dead man's chest and the cannibal's throne will catch the eye of anyone that has seen the movies.

Re-enactors will find the resource lists very useful. There are lists of pirate books, pirate web-sites, and an entire chapter devoted to my favorite pirate magazine, No Quarter Given. Mr. Beahm has included pictures of artifacts from museums throughout the country, and if you're an old pirate like me, you may even see some of your friends pictured in here.

This is a fast paced book packed with lots of information and belongs in the collection of anyone interested in piracy, but don't let it sit on your shelf. There is a ton of information that can be gleaned from its pages. Well done, Mr. Beahm. I give it five bloody cutlasses.

5 out of 5 stars Fun and "Guidlines" AHOY!!.......2007-07-17

Well now...

Want to be a Pirate? Want to think like a pirate? Dress like a Pirate? Dress like any particular Pirate? Want to know all about the history of the Pirates out at Disneyland? Well mates, then this is the Pirate CodeX for you.

Simple, colorful and FUN to read this book takes a deep breath and fills your sails with just about everything you'd like to know about Pirate lore, Pirate rumor AND it's filled to the gunnels with information about your favorite movie Pirates, those that sail the Disney Seas out on the Caribbean and beyond.

With Art by Tim Kirk and delightful photos that jump off the pages, it takes you on a voyage that answers any question a land-locked sea dog who is hankering for the open oceans may wish to ask. Where are the Pirate Festivals? Did Pirates really keep monkeys and Parrots as pets? How would I dress and act like Captain Barbossa? What is a..."poop deck"?

Do yourself a favor say's I. If ye or any of your'n have the call of the Sea in yer blood, then pilfer this volume quick as ye can and set sail for a grand adventure.

No "broken" compass required.

5 out of 5 stars Charming and informative.......2007-06-11

This is a great book if you are a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride or of the movies. The author covers every topic I could imagine on the subects of the movies and the historical facts from which they were developed. Don't think it is a bland history book though! It is jam-packed with photos, maps, quizes, and even advice on how to create your own authentic pirate garb! What a charming book!

5 out of 5 stars Yo ho!.......2007-05-29

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of praise for Beahm's latest volume!

Despite its pirate-booty of information on the hard facts and history of pirate life, the book remains completely accessible and as breezy as a Caribbean night. Young adult readers in particular, their curiosity piqued by the Disney films, will find CARIBBEAN PIRATES an enticing port of entry to the legendary world of piracy.

So, if it's a pirate's life for you, pour yourself a flagon of grog and set sail with Captain "Scurvy Dog" Beahm and his loyal crew of cutthroats. Yo ho, me mateys!

A good compilation of facts about pirates in general. This book basically covers a one to two page general outline of main piratical subjects. Not for scholarly use, but a fun general read. It seemed to be a little advanced for children's use however it is a more advanced type of broad useful and interesting facts.

4 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia of Piracy (A Good Start).......2002-09-15

This is an A-Z coverage of pirates and related topics. It includes coverage of books, authors, movies, actors, places and, you got it, actual pirates. If you want information of something piratical this is a good first place to look. There's a lot left out though, so I'd consider this as a good beginning on a more comprehensive book.

One big caution though, Rogozinski, doesn't seem to be overly constrained by history, so don't take everything written in this book as gospel. P-)

      4 out of 5 stars a fun coffee-table book.......2002-08-25

This is basically a coffee-table book, with lots of neat facts and figures about all things piratical. It certainly has some errors here and there, but it serves as a nice cross-referencing tool with other books on the subject. And where else can one find such a diverse discussion, including entries on the origin and formation of the pop-culture image of the pirate (peglegs, yo ho ho, etc), camp movies like the various Treasure Island features, and reviews of stories from Sabatini to Pope? While this book could certainly cover the pirate pulp novels of the 40s, 50s, & 60s better (think Jay Scotland), it's great for what it is. For a more scholarly book, I strongly recommend Ritchie's Captain Kidd.

3 out of 5 stars A good reference book, but an average history one........1999-06-17

This book is practical for references. But the author is often wrong. I found about a dozen fatal errors, and several minor ones. I have read many, many books of pirates history. If the author had truly read with care his masive bibliography, then he would not have made so many mistakes. I do not believe he did his homework well. Also, he does not gives any body of notes, so we the readers do not know where he took his data from, nor can we distinguish when is he using primary sources or when he is making things up. I recomend it only with reserves. For a better book, see David Cordingly, or go to the masters as Gosse.

3 out of 5 stars Gentlemen of Misfortune.......2005-11-11

I was thrilled when my parents found their 1921 hardcover edition of Howard Pyle's Book of Pirates! There are seven chapters, each of about 30 pages in length, thirteen beautiful paintings, and countless sketches that were included for the first time.

The confusing thing is the title: is the book fiction, or does Pyle relate the facts of certain pirates? By the second chapter, it is evident the book is fiction loosely wrapped around real-life elements and historical characters. For example, "With the Buccaneers" utilizes Henry Morgan and some of his affairs, while "Jack Ballister's Fortunes" is about the downfall of Blackbeard. Both are fictionally portrayed while containing elements and dialogue reportedly true to the events of the time.

The first chapter, Buccaneers and Marooners of the Spanish Main, is probably a reprinting of Pyle's article (or an excerpt from the book) of the same name. In it, Pyle breezes over Pierre François, Bartholomew Portuguese, and Roch Braziliano, all of whom are several minor characters who helped instigate, in their small way, the piracies of the 17th century. Pyle continues by recounting brief histories of Captain Henry Morgan, who was knighted by King Charles II, and Captain Avary, whose exploits twisted against him. Captain Kidd gets but one paragraph asserting (and correctly so) he was never a true pirate. Pyle then focuses on tales regarding Blackbeard in and around the Carolinas; Captain Low, who revenged against Yankees; and Pyle then concludes by mentioning the likes of "Ned" England, Captain Howell Davis, and of course the great Bartholomew Roberts.

The chapters that follow are merely short stories that disappoint when it comes to swashbuckling affairs, but are entertaining nevertheless, and more so, probably, for younger readers. My favorite yarn in this book is "Tom Chist and the Treasure Box," where a young lad espies Captain Kidd burying a treasure chest late at night. The tale is so simple and so romantic that I enjoyed it immensely. "Blueskin" is perhaps the most mature story and most readers will relate to the struggles of lost love found here. The story is the darkest and most frightening of the collection.

The compilation leaves out many of Pyle's greater paintings, and the stories simply aren't as well written or as imaginative as I had hoped. But the book can be read quickly while your crew careens the ship.

Ahoy there, matey! All buccaneers to the poop deck or ye'll be walkin' the plank! Aaarrgh! Author and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld always wondered why pirates' pants are so raggedy on the bottom edges, and what makes pirates so crabby all the time, and why it is that earrings were macho on pirates way before they became cool for any other guys. So he decided it was up to him to write the final word on piratedom. This encyclopedia of spectacularly unscientific, unfounded facts about those nasty brigands of the sea will thoroughly satisfy the curiosity of landlubbin' vermin and pirate wannabes alike. Complete with name charts (pick one word from each of three columns to come up with a name like Blind Tooth Willy or One Boot Kidd), diagrams of swashbuckler fashion, and cutaway views of pirate ships, this volume is chock full of unforgettable and indispensable details of the buccaneering life. Did you know, for example, that pirates are very clumsy--why else would they always end up with eye patches and hooks? And the skull and crossbones was not discovered inside the desk of a seventh-grader in De Kalb, Illinois, as is commonly believed. It was Leonardo "Peg Leg" da Vinci who invented the design. Confused by all this technical lingo? Check out the Official Pirate Glossary in the back. Lichtenheld's hilarious illustrations and outrageous nonsense makes for a delicious reading experience for swashbucklers of all ages. (Ages 4 and older) --Emilie Coulter

      5 out of 5 stars GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS & FUN.......2006-01-04

Ohh, this is a wonderful book. So it might misrepresent actual facts about pirates-soooo what. Do you tell kids that Santas not real? Your kid can look at this book and distinquish fact from fiction. This book is fun, colorful, and creative.(wonderful for children) If your 5-yr old is looking at writing a thesis on the history of pirates for an early admittance to Harvard than buy a different book. Otherwise, this is a colorful piece of young literature for your child. I recommend Lichtenheld's other books too.

1 out of 5 stars Funny but misguided.......2005-10-21

If all looking for is a few laughs, this book is worth reading.

However, I have a big problem with this kind of book for kids, and we are seeing more and more of this. Anyone who has kids knows that they usually take things at face value. If an adult or a book tells them something, they believe it.

This book is full of mis-information and jokes that only an adult or a young adult would understand. Younger children will be utterly perplexed by the information presented here.

More and more, I see so-called "children's" books that are marketed towards the ADULTS who read to their children (Hey, it's the adults who are shelling out the money, why not market to the adults?). The kids won't get the jokes. But at least the adults can be entertained while reading to their kids. This mentality is an insult to the child's intelligence. It assumes that the kids can't really process the real facts - that they wouldn't understand the truth.

If your child has a genuine interest in pirates, this book will only confuse them with information about pirates that is outright wrong. It is ANTI-educational.

5 out of 5 stars Everything I Know About Getting Kids to Read.......2005-04-27

If you don't find humor in this book, you just don't know how to laugh. For kids, there is nothing funnier than talking about boogers, B.O., and other stinky stuff. Adults sometimes loose site of the fun stuff in life...get this book and lighten up...you just might remeber what if feels like to be a kid again. If you are looking for hard facts about pirates, this is not the book for you (which, if you read the editor's review you would know). Tom Lichtenheld did a wonderful job incorporating a savy sense of humor, a rich vocabulary, and interesting illustrations into a book that kids will want to read.

      5 out of 5 stars What my grandson said . . ........2005-03-24

I haven't read this book, but my 5-yr-old grandson, Ryan Shaffer of Houston, Texas, has and he said in a phone call: "This is my favorite book ever." Sounds like a pretty good endorsement to me!

      1 out of 5 stars Lame & Vulgar as a double-pegged-leg pirate.......2004-08-03

Sorry, folks, spend your doubloons elsewhere. This book is not very funny and teaches nothing (except that one can publish children's books that use "boogers" for cheap laughs). I've had to explain to my son that the author didn't really know anything about pirates but wrote a book anyway. As another reviewer has rightly commented, there are better books about pirates for kids. Far better.
