Great Read.......2003-03-01
I recently joined a volunteer fire department and this book
truly helped me through the six months probationary period.
Great!!.......2002-12-02
This is a must have for anyone who aspires to being a firefighter. Vivid descriptions, Helpful tips, How-to Skill Sheets, and Clear illustrations help the student master otherwise difficult material. I'm currently going through firefighting class and would not be able to live without this book.
Firefighter Review.......2002-04-22
The book is excellent in its layout. Is easy to follow and is a very imformative piece of necessary literature for any firefighter taking firefighter 1. Is very informative on NFPA regulations and guidelines. I was impressed with the detail that was given in the book, our instructor was impressed with this book as well.

Essentials of Fire Fighting IV Study Guide.......2001-10-26
I found the study guide very helpful. Although the questions aren't exactly like the ones on the test, they are close and if you know the material in the study guide you can pass the tests. I had a couple of tests prior to the arrival of the guide and saw my scores improve after using the study guide. I used the true/false questions the most by correcting the false questions to make them true. This way I learned the material and could answer other questions that appeared on the actual test. I would recommend the guide for those getting started in FF and want to do well on the tests.
The Essentials Of Fire Fighting.......2000-03-27
" This book is very good in explaining the "How To" in fire fighting, great for volunteer fire fighters as well."

Good Introduction To Aircraft Rescue And Fire Fighting.......2007-09-24
This text, prepared by the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA), is a good introduction to aircraft (and airport) rescue and fire fighting. The book is easy to comprehend, yet is fairly detailed. There is a lot of good information on aircraft-specific fire fighting skills, as well as other relevant sections on issues like airport familiarization (lighting, markings, grid maps, etc.) and aircraft familiarization (engines, electrical systems, composite hazards, etc.)
The book is very strong in dealing with situational awareness issues (e.g. topography and terrain hazards, wind direction, hazardous goods), and is especially good at dealing with different types of apparatus and extinguishing agents (Aqueous Film Forming Foam, Regular Protein Foam, Film Forming Fluroprotein Foam, Purple K, etc.) and their application devices and method (aspirating versus nonaspirating nozzles, portable form proportioners, etc.) Basic skills and assessment techniques are strongly reinforced, and the place of fire fighters in Airport Emergency Plans is thoroughly explained.
The book tends to be a bit repetitive and occasionally tedious, but for someone with interest in aircraft rescue and fire fighting, this is an indispensable text.

Fire Investigator.......2006-02-19
If you are a fire cause and origin investigator, you need this book! If you don't use it, you can bet an attorney will use it against you in civil or criminal proceedings. This book should be right next to your NFPA 921. DeHahn writes in a pragmatic and easy to understand format. I understand that the 6th ed. is getting ready for relase so you might wait a couple of weeks and get the latest. Bravo Dr. DeHaan, you've done it again!
BEST FOR FIRE SCIENCE.......2004-09-29
The best book I know about fire; I like it for the strict scientific and pragmatic approach and the lot of practical hints, useful for a fire operator but also for a fire student.
Reading it, I understood a lot of things I watched in my 20 years of firefighting, and it changed my perception of fire behaviour and my understanding of a post-fire scene analysis.
A great help, and this edition is a lot better than the previous I had, the 3°.
Good Research Book.......2003-07-21
I bought this book as a step in investigating fires and arson steps of investigation in writing a novel. It does have a lot of good information, but it's very generalized--not specific. Good for the amateur fire sleuth that wants to get enought information to be able to 'talk the language.'
DeHaan Does It Again.......2003-02-11
The best fire investigation reference book on the market today. Thanks John.

Must-read for anyone seeking to understand fire behavior!.......2002-01-13
Written in an understandable, practical manner, this book makes a difficult subject comprehensible by even the unscientifically minded.
The author writes clearly and the book is very readable. The text is accompanied by great photographs & illustrations.
What a relief to find this book after attempting to plow through some of the other texts on this subject. Highly recommended!

Clifford is always a winner..........2000-09-29
Clifford and his adventures are always very popular in my classroom. Some may argue that many of Clifford's adventures are a stretch, they are nonetheless captavating to a young audience. In this edition, Clifford after being introdcued to the role of firefighters and the importance of fire safety gets a chance to be a fire rescue dog is his own right. The book is a great seque into fire safety and prevention.

OK.......2007-09-05
I found this book to be about the same as all of the other S and T books out there. It is a fine book.

Customer Reviews:
Well written! Exciting photographs!.......2007-09-19
Linda Hayward's beginning reader gives children a detailed and fascinating look into the day of a fireman and the job that he does dring a 24 hour shift. There are safety inspections, rescue work, checking all the equipment in the firehouse, etc.
The picture word list in the back of the book is an excellent feature, refreshing the reader's knowledge.
Engaging Story - Great Images.......2007-02-20
I haven't met a kid yet who didn't have at least a passing interest in firetrucks and firefighters. This book gives curious children a peak into the "real" life of an every day hero. The vocabulary is just right for beginning readers and the images will keep the attention of younger listeners.
This book also serves as a useful tool to speak to your children about fire safety.
Good for younger kids, too.......2007-02-18
Although these books are intended for young readers, my two-year-old daughter enjoys having them read to her. The language is easy and direct, the connection between words and pictures is very clear, and the short length fits her attention span.
We have about six books from this series, but "A Day in the Life of a Fire Fighter" is her favorite - and she now loves to point out the "Exit" sign and fire extinguisher in any building we visit.
DK books are wonderful.......2003-07-14
My daughter is 4 1/2 and is beginning to read. The DK books are wonderful and she loves them. The pictures are very good (all DK books are excellently illustrated) and the short stories hold her interest. This series is great in that the reading levels are clearly marked on the book cover, so she knows what to look for when at the library or bookstore.
I also appreciate DK because of their quality binding. Unlike so many other children books, DK uses heavy glossy paper-stock.

Great first "read".......2007-04-10
Our four year old has renewed this book from the library as many times as possible on several occasions. The simple word/picture match gives him the confidence to "read" this book. We bought this for his birthday and he carries it around to show off his succcess.
Great for new readers and pre-readers.......2005-09-16
My 2 year old has this book and LOVES it! He can also "read" it by himself and is very proud of himself for being able to do so. It is a great idea to have a book that has only ONE word per page.

great book for kids.......2002-08-20
This is an excellent book for children to learn more about firefighting--both about the history and modern techniques and equipment. It's detailed without being overly graphic. And as with all DK books, it's chockful of beautiful photographs that clearly show what words cannot describe.
Of particular interest are the case studies of various famous fires (mostly in the U.S.) throughout history, their causes, the destruction wreaked, and effects on firefighting efforts. This is especially interesting in the context of the development of firefighting techniques as we get to see just how much has had to happen to get to where we are today--and in some cases, how much further we have to go.
