Book Description
The traditional childbearing ages for women have been 20-29. Today, however, the trend to later childrearing is significant, with the numbers of mothers over the age of 35 having grown 75 percent in the last decade, while the numbers in the traditional ages continue to decline. From celebrities to the woman next door, later childrearing is no flash-in-the-pan fad "and isn't going to subside; future trends only show women will continue to delay motherhood," according to the National Center for Health Statistics. But I Don't Feel Too Old to Be a Mommy! is the first and only book to fully address the concerns of the ever-growing but greatly ignored audience of literate, educated women who have delayed motherhood. In this comprehensive work, women who are considering parenting in their 30s, 40s and later-whether for the first time or starting over-will find all the information they need to make informed choices. Author Doreen Nagle, herself a first-time mom over 40, details the risks, rewards, rumors and resources-from making the decision to start a family, to every imaginable way to get there, to the realities of motherhood beyond 35 and 40. Issues covered include infertility, pregnancy, surrogacy, adoptions, the pros and cons of later motherhood, single parenting, and financial and career considerations. Complete with quotes from medical experts, later-in-life moms and their kids, this one-stop book will calm the doubts and fears of women considering motherhood after 35 and beyond 40 by providing supportive yet realistic information.
Customer Reviews:
Everything you need to know in one book.......2004-08-06
This book is not about humor, or girlfriend-to-girlfriend banter. It states all the facts before, during, and after the decision to tackle motherhood beyond the conventional age. There are resources and facts about fertility options, adoption (the author and her husband adopted a child from Russia) and all the other challenges to be faced. It is very honest about the pros and cons of late-life motherhood, the risks and the rewards, and it is good to have all this information in one volume, rather than having to hunt for the information elsewhere.
It has everything!.......2004-02-15
I've read a few other books for women in our age group trying to become mothers, and they all say practically the same thing. I agree, this book is different and very, very, very complete without being prejudiced or insisting you do it her way! She also writes a weekly column on parenting called Parenting in a Nutshell that also has lots of info. Great Book!!
Tons of info I never thought of.......2003-10-26
This book has lots of info I never thought about. I am in my mid-40s and for the first time I am thinking about becoming a mother. This book helps me think with my head as well as my heart and try to plan for my life. I also realize that becoming a mother is more than just worrying about getting pregnant (you know, can I/can't I?). Parenting a child is what it's about, no matter how I get there (like adoption). Nagle is vey encouraging without overselling. She also doesn't pretend to be an expert on fertility. If you are thinking about becoming a mother in your late 30's or more, this is the book.
This book covers it all........2003-09-11
This book covers literally everything I wanted to know about becoming an "older" mom. It's what every woman in my position would need to think about and know about.Fertility is only a part of this book (I find too many other books for women in this age group focus only on fertility and pregnancy when there is so much more to consider: for instance, would we have to move? Give up my job? There is a huge section on career options including being a stay at home mom). This book covers every possible other way to become a mom -- from adoption (Nagle adopted a boy), surrogacy, even a foster mom which no other book even considers. The book is also loaded with questions to consider about motherhood after 35, and talks with a lot of humor and warmth about what life is really like after later motherhood becomes a reality. There is lots of practical great information. Nagle is realistic and very positive. You can tell she loves being a mom. It is a book written for women: mothers to be and mothers to be again, even though dads are considered in passing. It's a great resource.
Book is misnamed -- should be "The High-Tech Fertility Book".......2003-08-29
If you're looking for what the title of this book promises, look at Sheila Kitzinger's "Birth Over Thirty-Five" instead, a sensitive and far-ranging exploration of many, many issues of interest to the mature woman who is pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant.
Nagle's book is NOT, by any means, a "complete sourcebook for starting (and restarting) motherhood beyond 35 and after 40." It would be better billed as a sourcebook for information about a wide range of super-high-tech methods for getting pregnant. That is the topic of the bulk of the book. Emphasis is definitely on the high-tech. The existence of natural, holistic approaches is given cursory mention only.

Book Description
"The children's relationship is refreshingly noncombative, with Charlie as the protective and affectionate older brother who is appreciative of, rather than annoyed by, his sister's quirkiness." - SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL (starred review)
Lola is not so sure about school. After all, why would she need to count higher than ten when she never eats more that ten cookies at a time? Once again, it's up to ever-patient big brother Charlie to persuade Lola that school is worthwhile — and that her invisible friend, Soren Lorensen, will be welcome, too.

Excellent! Easy to read over and over again........2007-07-01
My daughter (2 1/2) loves this book. She has me read it to her every night before bed along with 2 other books. This book has remained constant along with Charlie and Lola's I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed. There is always something you missed the first or fifteenth time around when reading this book to your little one. Very well written and a lot of fun. Also just came across the Charlie and Lola website. www.charlieandlola.com (excellent)
A fun read........2007-05-12
This is a really fun book that touches on the fears of a little girl getting ready to go off for her first experience with school. We loved it.

What child could possibly resist the charm of Charlie & Lola?
Children & parents alike will thoroughly enjoy reading this latest book of the series.
Lauren Child has created a series of books that are present & future classics.
An absolute must for bed time reading.
Charlie & Lola win again!.......2006-11-03
I just cant say how much I love Charlie & Lola...I think this is my fourth purchase of this very same book! I can't stop giving them to all the little ones in our lives. My daughter adores the characters. She isnt quite two but has been reading C&L with me for about 6 months. We also love the videos. Very sweet.
This particular book was fun to read as we got our daughter ready for her first daycare experience.
My goal is to have every Charlie & Lola book and DVD made. I love the innocence and imagination I see with every turn of the page.
BEST FOR THOSE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT SCHOOL.......2006-07-15
OUR PRE-SCHOOLER IS SO OUTGOING, THIS BOOK DIDN'T STRIKE A CHORD W/ HER & SHE NEVER WANTED IT READ A 2ND TIME. SHE DID LOVE THE COOKIE PAGE THOUGH. LAUREN CHILD IS VERY FUNNY, BUT OUR FAVORITE IS 'I AM NOT SLEEPY...'.
Book Description
Inspiration and advice for adult daughters on making peace with Mom while there's still time--from the best-selling author of Surrendering to Marriage
Iris Krasnow--mother, daughter, and best-selling Journalist--tackles the toughest relationship in the lives of many grown women: the mother-daughter bond. With women's life expectancy inching up past eighty, you may be embroiled with your mother well past the time your own hair turns white. The good news: Living longer means more time to make peace--and this book shows you how.
Drawing on her own experience with her colorful eighty-four-year-old mother and the collective wisdom of more than one hundred other adult daughters, Krasnow offers a fresh perspective on how to overcome the anger, guilt, and resentment that can destroy a family. The time to repair the bond is now, she reminds us: You can't kiss and make up at her funeral. The key is to let go of the fantasy mom and embrace the flesh-and-blood woman, with all her flaws.

My mother is dying.......2007-10-01
This book could not have come at a better time for me. My mother is just weeks away from her death. I love this author. She writes in a very human, very real-life kind of way, which is hard to come by. A perfect book for any woman who is in midlife with a mother who is still alive (or not). I found reading other women's stories of their relationships with their mothers quite revealing and healing.
Before it's too late.......2007-08-29
a book replete with profound insights. too late for me but needs to be read by all mothers and daughters. don,t wait, go get this book NOW.
Outstanding Book...bought 5 copies.......2007-08-23
All women should read this book. My dear mom is gone since 1974. Not only did I buy this for my daughters (3) and my sister but also for my friend's daughter who just had a baby. We will put it away for 12 years after Gail reads it herself. Definitely one of the best on mothers and daughters.
I am My Mother's Daughter: Making Peace with Mom-before It's Too Late.......2007-03-22
Not Finished reading, however book is great, and was shipped on time! From what I have read so far has already has already helped me with my feeling towards my mother.
Very Helpful and Touching.......2007-01-28
As a baby boomer with an aging mother, I found this book a real comfort and inspiration. I discovered it while browsing my local library and will now buy my own copy, as there are many passages that I know I will re-read as my mother ages. As well, I will pass it on to my daughters as I age. The many backgrounds and relationships described in this book allow the author to illustrate a variety of ways to come to terms with the power and depth of the mother/daughter link. Each example, even when their experiences were far different from my own, gave me tidbits of wisdom and insight. And the way the author interweaves her own story is masterful. Wonderful book! I highly recommend it.

I really do like Eve Bunting's books and this is no exception. It is well written, simple and charming. A great book for Mother's Day.
Book Description
When her brother responds to therapy for ADD, Emily no longer knows what her family role should be.
Customer Reviews:
I'm Somebody Too- one word. AWESOME!.......2006-09-29
This book captured my heart. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me think. I have never read anything more powerful and precise about ADHD and brother and sister rivalry than this one. Make sure to read it! It's a keeper!!
Sensitive look at the needs of the sibling of an AD/HD child.......2001-10-25
Those who have read Eagle Eyes by the same author will recognize Emily, Ben's older sister. Emily's parents and brother have done an excellent job of understanding and addressing Ben's AD/HD. However, Emily feels that her parents are ignoring her. She feels that they expect her to maintain perfect behavior so that the parents can focus on Ben's problems. Emily and the rest of the family work with Ben's therapist to gain an understanding of Emily's own needs.
The book deals with psychotherapy and family issues in a clear but relatively sophisticated manner. I liked the fact that it addressed Emily's feelings about her parents' time-consuming involvement with advocacy groups. Family involvement in advocacy organizations is critical, but parents also need to seek a balance that includes regular family down time.
This book may also be useful for any girl who feels that her over-committed family expects her to be too perfect.
This book is aimed at the older elementary school or middle school child. There is more text and relatively few illustrations.

Book Description
Welcome a biography of oppression told through the eyes of a lesbian...a "HOMO-cide" survivor. I could easily relay some heart wrenching narrative about what you'll find here, but that's not only typical...it's not my style. I will, however, tell you this...I am honest, observant, and passionate about the subject of oppression and the desperate need for change.
I will ask you to remember that yesterday I may have been born the happy infant loved by all, and today I may be the adult lesbian that society gets to meet and discuss. But one day, not long ago...I too was a child...a child of oppression. And that child was damned to exist in a dark realm...the closet, if you will. She was murdered by society before she could even tie her shoes. It is that child that I have journeyed to discover...that gay and forsaken child no one ever knew.
By recognizing the cycle of oppression and breaking it...we will find the children...the key to equality...and we will set them free. We have to try...if we don't, then we've agreed to let them die. It's time to wash the blood of the children from our hands...America.

Four little heros' thumbs up! .......2007-06-01
Before my husband's deployment, I searched for a book that would prepare my kids for what they were about to experience. Nothing I found really helped to explain the challenge of being left to wait and wonder and worry on the homefront while Dad is away at war. This book is what I have been waiting for! My kids identified with the rollercoaster of emotions experienced by the child in the story. Reading it helped us all to put a finger on how they felt and why they felt that way, and to know that lots of other kids share the same feelings during a parent's deployment. "I'm a Hero, Too" deals with a difficult topic with just the right balance of realism, humor, and hope. A must have for any military child--highly recommended by this military mom!
A helping hand for trying times.......2007-05-26
This simply told picture book helps a child explore the feelings that go along with dealing with having a parent deployed. The message is upbeat and patriotic but not sugar coated. The boy in the book is allowed to express a full range of emotions.
In addition, the cover shoes a picture of a man in a Marine Corp style dress uniform but the pictures throughout the book show fairly generic cammies so that this book could be helpful to families from any branch of the service.
I bought a copy for our family as well as two more for friends who have husbands who are in Iraq.
Just what this Marine family needed.......2007-05-24
My husband recently deployed to Iraq and this book was perfect for my 6 and 10 year old. It let them know that everything they're feeling is absolutely okay. They also got a boost from the idea that they're heroes too. Now they know that by "sharing" their dad, they too are helping to serve our country. Every military child deserves a copy of this book!
