Product Description
Brian Jones life was a David vs. Goliath. Young, petite, and naïve, his Goliath was the Rolling Stones money machine. Unlike the Bible, Brian lost his life. This book levels the battlefield by telling what happened to the bands founder. Written from Brians POV, the Stones rise to stardom is chronicled, ending with British authorities lack to properly investigate the bi-sexual bandleaders death at 27.
Brian recalls being an incest victim, homeless at age 16 and forced into prostitution. Regardless, with extreme talent, sexuality, and imagination he led the band he picked, taught and named to glory. His vision was to bring world music to the Stones catalog; the band declinedcontent to crank out mundane sounds as long as records sold.
After a fight over musical direction Brian left the band planning to start anew and take the Rolling Stones name with him. Three weeks later he drowned in his swimming pool. Brians tale of death threats and witness accounts recount what actually happened.

STRIKING PLAY BY PLAY.......2007-10-21
As an enthusiastic fan of the Rolling Stones original R & B sound what I found mind-blowing about this book were all the insider details given as to how the Stones one of a kind sound actually came to be. It appears the entire middle section (and maybe more) gives a striking play by play as to what Brian Jones actually did for the Stones and how, without his doing, they'd never have received superstardom especially in such a short period of time.
I was lucky enough to hear two short interviews with Gloria Shepherd recently on both a local and then a national radio station. What impressed me was how clear-cut she was in presenting facts relating to Brian's contributions to the band. Great to hear an author so well versed, and with a sense of humor! in the subject especially since Ms. Shepherd claims she previously had no background info - that is until Brian's well preserved audiotapes were handed over to her. Although she had to admit that some tapes were indiscernible and washed out from all the years gone by. I wonder what other "inside" info Brian talked about on those?
The great thing is the fact these tapes are now part of the world's musical history proves, at least to me, that miracles still do exist. What we need now is a movie of this version of the Stones history.
Straight from the heart, fact or fiction?.......2007-10-17
I am a huge Brian Jones fan and was excited to read the book. I have to say that a lot of the material is far fetched. From what I have researched, some of the information is not correct. True, Brian was thrown from his home at 16, but the years on the streets seem too much. People who knew him say that the book is exaggerated quite a bit. The whole chapter about Mick getting into the dark arts and "casting his spells and putting his thoughts directly into Brian's head" that was a bit much. There is no reference except to two psychic's in the book. I guess the quotes are from beyond the grave.
As said, I am a Brian fan and did learn a bit that I did not know, but all in all this book has to be 50-60% fiction with bits of truth.
BRIAN JONES...ANOTHER JFK?.......2007-09-20
I just read a grand review of this book that appears on Vintage Rock www.vintagerock.com.bjones_book.aspx in which the reviewer compares Brian's killing to the conspiracy behind JFK's assassination. What I find most interesting is the complete quiet we hear coming from the British Isles when so many are currently presenting clues and evidence surrounding Brian's death.
Even though Ms. Shepherd's book offers compelling facts relating to his death, she leaves out another suspicious death--that of Graham Bond who would've made a fantastic witness to talk about the threatening phone call Brian received at his "hideaway" only two days before his death. While the author does a dramatic job of re-enacting the events of Bond accepting the phone threat on Brian's behalf, she fails to mention that Bond "accidentally" fell under a train not long thereafter. Before he could personally testify about what he knew. Just as with witnesses who were willing to testify about JFK's assassination, many who were willing to testify about Brian's death also either suddenly disappeared or suddenly died! Coincidence? Think about it.
Lonesome Dove.......2007-09-16
Since I learned this book is supposed to be written from Brian's POV I don't understand why some complain that the author only focuses on Brian's good qualities and doesn't put him down for all the horrible deeds and nasty pranks he was known to have committed against others. I got it right off. Since Brian is talking about himself here, he like any of us wouldn't be sitting down (or standing up LOL) talking badly about himself.
He probably couldn't see all his faults especially since those nasty pranks were mostly committed during his up's and down's mood swings, when he didn't have much control over what he was doing. None of us sees ourselves as others do, and Brian was hurting over losing the friendship and camaraderie of his band mates but he couldn't understand where he had turned them off. Also none of them believed his many ailments that caused him to miss performances and rehearsals. The other Stones thought he was just being a cry baby or lazy but he gave it his best shot. It just wasn't good enough for the healthy ones who couldn't sympathize with his predicament.
In reading this story I got to thinking of Brian Jones as a beautiful Lonesome Dove, bleeding from the inside and not knowing how to get the help and unquestioning love he so badly needed.
WHAT A RIDE!.......2007-09-06
I'm part of a R&B band myself and got to meet Mick and the rest back in the day. So I try making time to read memoirs and such when I get the time. I've not written any reviews before but this story really caught me up. The book took so many twists and turns different than the rest out there that sometimes all stumble on each other with the same info.
I only wish this book would've gone into the story and testimony of Brian's murder earlier. That was the part that fascinated me. Not to say I want to believe it. But it for sure has more proof than anything I've seen before. All the facts come together and I hate to say that even though I don't want to believe what this story says happened, I can't find anything to prove it didn't happen.
I got to talking with others about this who say they heard similar storys for years but never saw it all laid out so totally. We'd like to see this turned into a film. Not like Stoned that is whitewash, but if this book is made into a movie as its written then we'd have something to watch for sure.
I only wonder why the Brits don't want to open the case. There's to much out there to ignore but hey that's on their heads.

Mary's is not a clichéd, conventional take on romance, but a clean, updated take that's inviting to men as well as women, modernists as well as sentimentalists. In
Mary Emmerling's Romantic Country, she shares her secrets for creating romance where you find it and bringing touches of charm to any setting.
From an enchanting cottage in Los Angeles to a young family's bungalow in Tucson, a high-rise in Houston to a tiny shack on Long Island, Romantic Country is filled with more than 250 lush photographs that offer an abundance of ideas for making any home more nurturing, pampering, and inviting. The "Romance A to Z" section highlights elements that instantly create intimacy, such as window seats, canopy beds, fireplaces, clawfoot tubs, dressing tables, chaise lounges, ceiling fans, big snuggly sofas, and more. And irresistible lists throughout the book reveal "No-Fail Ingredients for Romance," "A Sound Track for Seduction," and "The Most Romantic Getaways Stateside," as well as the sexiest cars, cocktails, movies, and much more. Mary even shares her own wonderful love story, which inspired this book, as well as a directory of her favorite stores and resources for romantic furnishings and accessories across the country.
"In these hard-edged, fast-paced, technology-ruled times, romance is more important than ever," points out Mary Emmerling. Let
Romantic Country show you the way to create a happier, prettier, more relaxing refuge—because, after all, whose life couldn't use a little more romance?

Mary Emmerling's Romantic Country .......2007-03-30
Typical for Mary Emmerling's books.....short & sweet. A Little disappointing but always nice to open it now & again.
another good book from this author.......2005-10-17
I have many of Mary Emmerling's books. I like the older ones a little better as she used more New England style decorating. Now she has shifted to Southwest which is not very appealing to me. She does present her style well no matter what type of decorating she uses.
Mary Emmerling's Romantic Country: Style That's Straight from the Heart.......2005-07-05
One of her best. The subject resonates with all of us, we want cozy and intimate and practical and affordable ways to achieve such. Her suggestions go straight to the heart. We can all identify with her view of her life now and how important it is to do the small things NOW!
A very personal book ..........2005-02-10
Mary Emmerling does tell us A LOT about her own life - I felt I was kind of intruding, but she is obviously SOOOOOOO happy with her new husband - and who can begrudge her that? But the photos and the explanations of how things were acquired or made or modified to fit into the very lovely personalized homes - are really priceless! And she goes IN DEPTH into each home - 4 or more pages of writing and gorgeous photos of insides and outsides on each home plus a description of the people who own it. The groupings are very well planned, too - sections on simple cottages progressing to romantic, traditional and some rather elegant places -
The reader who complained that the book is "too heavy" into Southwestern Style may be right - a lot of N.M. and AZ homes - I might have enjoyed more English Country or Seaside cottages, but there are many, many ideas and images here that can be adapted to any small house - I was feverish with enthusiasm after reading through the book the first time, and have gone back for inspiration many, many times since.
Inspires ones own style.......2004-10-06
I have long been a fan of Mary Emmerling since viewing her style and decorating tv shows. I have never before purchased one of her books and I am very happy I did. It is a great book to curl up with in a chair with and make for a cozy afternoon read with a candle lit in the backround. The photographs are crisp, clear and stunning. There are many different types of country style offered in this book and I believe there is something to appeal to those with widely differing styles of country decorating tastes. What I found particularly great about the book was that it strays from the traditional view of romantic country with it's laces and at times overly frilly and feminine fabrics and accessories towards a widely diverse notion of what is romantic in decorating. It teaches each person to find what is romantic to them from their own life and heritage and to call upon that in finding your own style. Offered are many photos and decorating styles/themes to inspire. Also fun about the book are the many lists of things considered romantic. Better still...make your own list after reading the book! A great overall read to inspire and relax with. Thanks Mary!
Customer Reviews:
This book is not at all as clean as the movie "Straight from the Heart".......2007-09-03
I absolutely loved the movie "Straight from the Heart," so I decided to track down the book on which the movie was based.
The book GREATLY disappointed me in its use of more than a few swearwords and in its gratuitous description of premarital sex. (I had to skip over about half of a chapter at one point.)
The plot of the book and that of the movie were close, but the movie greatly cleaned up the language and the extramarital sex references which abounded in the book.
My recommendation: If language and extramarital sex bothers you, stick to the movie.
Straight from the Heart.......2007-06-11
I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were enjoyable and believable.
The story line was great.
Just as good as the movie.......2003-03-19
I'll admit, I'm one of those people that see the movie first, then read the book. Although this book was published in 1996, the movie adaptation was not made until 2003, shown on the Hallmark Channel. It starred Teri Polo and Andrew McCarthy in the lead roles. I have always been a true romantic at heart and ever since I saw the movie last month I've wanted to read the book. Finding such an old book was hard but I am thoroughly glad I did. Zoey is a strong career-minded woman who wants to get married and have a family. Her reluctant boyfriend challenges her into answering an ad for rural single men. She ends up on a plane to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and meets Tyler Ross, a rancher who is not all that thrilled at meeting any female, let alone one from New York City. He has his own inner demons he's dealing with. Zoey is not thrilled either, but the beauty of the land keeps her there along with free roaming mustang horses. There are a few bumpy roads but once you finish reading this book you'll believe the sometimes life doesn't always turn out the way you planned and love can happen more than once in a lifetime.

Great for youth and adults who love horses.......2003-07-18
This anthology contains good to very-well-written stories about horses and the people who love them. Most of this material appeared on the pages of EQUUS Magazine. The quality of writing in these tales improves after the first few until the horse and rider adventures become real page turners. Some are humorous or touching, others are imaginative or inspiring and some are tragic. The owners are men and women, teens and little children but they all respect and love their mounts. Some of these horses make millions of dollars for their owners while others teach their riders life's lessons. This is an excellent book for any horse owner. Suitable for children mature enough to understand horsemanship. I'm buying copies as presents for the children in my family.

The Fascinating Life of Ann Richards.......2001-09-15
This autobiography of former Texas Governor Ann Richards allows us to follow the political transformation of Texas and of our nation in the eyes of someone who participated in the changes. She grew up amidst segregation. She notes how racial prejudice arises from ignorance and unfamiliarity.
It was in college that one class changed the direction of Ann Richards's life: Speech class. It would mold the woman who decades later would utter the famous line before the Democratic Natioanl Convention that "Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaore did. She just did it backwards and in high heels."
Readers follow Ann Richards through her days with the Young Democrats in alliance with Lyndon Johnson. We learn how she led the North Dallas Democratic Women and how the FBI infiltrated its section that advocated integration. We feel the sadness of what it was like to be at the luncheon towards which John F. Kennedy was headed yet never reached due to his assassination.
Ann Richards show readers her personal side and struggles. She describes what it is like being epileptic. What it is like to fight alcoholism. What it is like to be a woman running for office in Texas. This is a great book from a former Governor.
An honest, funny, this-is-me bio........1999-02-18
Our beloved Ann Richards gives us an idea of where she came from, and how she got where she's going. Written for comprehension at any reading level, she is her usual witty self. Some of the text is slightly disjointed, sometimes jumping topics or leaving stories unfinished. She writes of obviously painful phases in her life with grace and humility, while still preserving her privacy and diginty. An enjoyable read, leaving me wishing to know the continuation of the story, and hopeful that she will consider extending her political career.
Must read for Texas lovers.......1998-04-01
Mrs. Richards tells her story up through her two terms as Treasuerer of Texas with candor, common-sense and a clear love of Texas. The writing is not the best - she is prone to introducing people and then not saying why she introduced them - but her tale of accomplishing amazing things simply building on her love of politics, family and Texas is inspiring. I was left with the feeling that I too could be a player wherever I hung my hat. While the book may have been written in part to help her to the Governorship, Mrs. Richards is candid about her motivations, weaknesses and political evolution. This book made me glad I live in Texas and sorry that Mrs. Richards is no longer our Governor.

Product Description
The community Paul founded in Corinth gave him both joy and grief, for he was to encounter problems there of disunity, sin, and arrogance - including a rejection by some of his own apostolic authority. His two epistles to the Corinthians came straight from the heart, as he appeals to them to live in peace, in righteousness, in generosity, and not to resist his God-given authority. His Corinthian correspondence abides as a lasting legacy, and a challenge for all churches everywhere. About the commentary series This commentary was written for your grandmother. And for your plumber, your banker, and the girl who serves you French Fries at the nearby McDonald's. That is, it was written for the average layperson, for the nonprofessional who feels a bit intimidated by the presence of copious footnotes, long bibliographies, and all those other things which so enrich the lives of academics. It is written for the pious Orthodox layman who is mystified by such things as Source Criticism, but who nonetheless wants to know what the Scriptures mean. Working from a literal translation of the original Greek, this commentary examines the text section by section, explaining its meaning in everyday language. Written from an Orthodox and patristic perspective, it maintains a balance between the devotional and the exegetical, feeding both the heart and the mind.

You've Got Mail...........2007-06-01
Lawrence Farley's bible study companions are an excellent resource. Not only do they provide an easy to use format - but with self-contained note pages and the actual bible verses printed in the book it can be used in confined spaces - i.e. while travelling etc.
This study guide has a definite bias - that of the Apostolic Church Father's interpretation of scripture. This is a GOOD THING. It opens the study passages up in a way that is closer to the originally intended understanding. If you're reading someone else's mail - i.e. a letter written to a first century Corinthian community - it's valuable to get insight into the cultural environment that existed during that time. Knowing the traditions that were handed down through the Fathers of the Church - helps in that understanding.
The background information is extremely thorough and often reveals a perspective on an obscure passage that we would not have access to, based on our viewpoints in today's society.
A very useful and valuable resource that makes a great addition to any bible study tools collection.

Straight From the Heart.......2007-09-07
Very good in the tradition of Tami Hoag. I would recommend it to all of her many fans.
Fun Romance.......2000-07-30
Yes, it's your typical romance book, but it's fun to read. Hoag's characters, Jace and Rebecca have great chemistry, and you root for them from the beginning of the book to the end as Jace tries to make up for hurting Rebecca years ago. Hoag has added some rather interesting supporting characters to the book like Rebecca's father and their neighbor, Muriel, who are also on Jaces side. A fun romance to relax with.
