Great for youth and adults who love horses.......2003-07-18
This anthology contains good to very-well-written stories about horses and the people who love them. Most of this material appeared on the pages of EQUUS Magazine. The quality of writing in these tales improves after the first few until the horse and rider adventures become real page turners. Some are humorous or touching, others are imaginative or inspiring and some are tragic. The owners are men and women, teens and little children but they all respect and love their mounts. Some of these horses make millions of dollars for their owners while others teach their riders life's lessons. This is an excellent book for any horse owner. Suitable for children mature enough to understand horsemanship. I'm buying copies as presents for the children in my family.

three plays by kaufman and hart.......2006-11-10
The reviews on these plays have been in for 70 years, so I can just say that the edition was clear and well-presented.
American comedy lives.......2005-09-12
Kaufman & Hart are comedy gold, and are alive and well in this wonderful collection of their best collaborative efforts. Unlike the acting editions, this publication contains the plays in their original condition, no lines changed or stage managers' blocking cues, just the good stuff. Kaufman & Hart's comedies not only stand alone as the greatest American comedic plays, but also as universal works adaptable to a modern stage. They created characters, and wrote lines that showcase biting wit, physical comedy, and plenty of unforgettable one-liners--a mixture that has something for everyone, and everything for many. You don't have to agree with me that Kaufman & Hart were/are America's greatest comedic playwrights (not to mention their other areas of theatrical expertise), but you should definitely give them a chance to convince you themselves. On top of their writing, this collection is both compact and affordable. A great buy, and an excellent read.
Very funny, needs updating for today's P.C. world........1998-09-16
The play centers around the crazy Sycmore family, particularly focusing on the younger daughter, Alice. Alice is engaged to Tony Kirby, but feels the gap between his straight-laced roots and her outlandish upbringing will be to strong. In an effort to dissuede her, Tony surprises her by bringing his parents to visit on the wrong night so they get an acurate idea of Alice's family. The night ends with the whole company being arrested for the illegal manufacture of fireworks. Alice plans to leave for the Adirondacks, but is stopped by Tony. His father comes for him, but Mr. Kirby is brought around to the other side by Grandpa, who points out a very important fact. Whatever possessions you have in life are of no consequence. You can't take it with you when you die.

It's lifetime of Memories.......2000-04-06
This book is a must have for everyone. I received it as a Christmas present in 99' and I've been writing in it ever since. I'm only in my early twenties and as I get older I want to have something to remember my past. I hope that my kids and the rest of family will be able to read this and see the joy that I've had in my lifetime. This is the perfect expression of a lifetime of fond memories captured in a single book.
An opportunity to know my father before it was too late.......1999-03-04
I bought the book Once Upon a Lifetime for my father last Christmas. He balked at the idea of filling out a bunch of questions about his life. I hounded him to do it for a few months. He said he'd done the first page in January, and the second page in February, but was having a hard time getting into it. He isn't one to talk about himself or his life, but I knew he'd had a very adventurous and challenging life, and I had always wanted to know more about it. He'd never shown us any photo albums, has no family, and wanted to "leave the past behind". I stopped bugging him about the book by March. He died in July in his home of a sudden heart attack. He was 81 years old. As my sister and I were going through his things, on his desk, under a big pile of books and papers was the book of questions Once Upon a Lifetime. I noticed that he had not only filled in the first two pages, but every page of the book. He had answered all 1001 questions. If not with an answer, at least an "N/A". I told the story of the book at his memorial service and quoted from it. People told me how moving it was to hear about his life, and have quotes from the book. I've had at least 15 people ask me where to get a copy of the book so they can give it to their parents.

Romantic story.......2007-01-25
Loved the secondary characters, Tara and Henry most of all. A good romantic story where patience on the man's part (Telford) wins in the end. Though I found Alexis reasons for holding back from total commitment very strange and did not make any sense. The little twist at the end seemed contrived but sweet.
Fun and Entertaining.......2004-03-21
Once in a Lifetime, by Gwynne Forster, is a delightful read. Forster mixes a beautiful housekeeper and her daughter into a batter spiced with three brothers and a grouchy cook. Next, she turns up the heat by adding a little romance and some mischief. When all is said and done, she serves up a delightful treat that is hard to resist.
This book is a must read for romance lovers. Forster's wit shines forth as she unveils a plot laced with love and ultimately trust. The characters were well-developed and before the end of the book I felt as if I knew each one of them personally.
If you are looking for a funny and relaxing read, I recommend this book. Once you have read a book by Ms. Forster, you will want to do it more than once in a lifetime.
T.RHYTHM KNIGHT
This book keeps you on your toes!!.......2003-11-27
Once in a lifetime-Is the kind of book you would enjoy reading over and over again. It has a lot of twists that keep you guessing when Alexis and Telford are going to finally tell each other how they really feel. And it even gives some drama between Alexis and her ex-husband and what Telford things. This book does not leave you hanging at the end like some books. I can say that I really enjoyed this book and I think the ending couldn't have been written better.
Out of the Mouths of Babes.......2003-05-30
What becomes of a divorced woman with a young child starting anew? Alexis Stevenson has divorced her husband and abandoned the life she knows; what is next for Alexis? Alexis secures a position as a home manager at Harrington House in rural Maryland. Telford Harrington, along with his brothers Drake and Russ are the proprietors of Harrington House and together with their cook, the humorous and protective Mr. Henry, Harrington House has become a mansion of brooding bachelors. When Alexis reports to work with an inquisitive four-year old child at her side, the fireworks begin.
The Harrington brothers, although rich and successful in business, have not led the ideal life. Each brother is driven but Telford has something to prove and is obsessive in his business dealings. Alexis has secrets she will not reveal and is determined to turn Harrington House into a home. With an endearing heart and a captivating spirit, Tara, Alexis' daughter, has enthralled the men of Harrington House to the satisfaction of Alexis. Can this little girl change the hearts and minds of men who are accustomed to their tranquility and space? Can she change the mind of her mother who does not want to put her trust in relationships again?
Once In A Lifetime provides just enough intrigue to keep you interested in how the story plays out and the right amount of sensuous romance to keep the reader begging for more from the characters. Through the soul of a little girl, Gwynne Forster has given the reader an enchanting novel of letting go of the past and learning to trust again so that your heart can receive the love that is waiting.

Moving on..........2003-01-22
Alexis Stevenson is moving on with her life and away from her ex-
husband Jack and the comforts of upper-class living. She
becomes the home manager for The Harrington brothers; wealthy
and attractive bachelors, but all with their flaws, which
include a mistrust of women as a result of seeing how their mom
mistreated their father.
Alexis steps in, sets house rules, and runs the mansion with the
assistance of the cook Henry. By her side is her precious
daughter Tara, who in my mind carried the story--she is
definitely a character I'll always remember. Tara's innocence and instant liking to the brothers,
in particular Telford, made me long for family and friends. It
is through her character that I saw the true meaning of love.
Meanwhile, Alexis and Telford share not only feelings for each
other, but Alexis is keeping a secret from him that could affect
their new found love while in the background her ex-husband pops
up starting his own brand of drama.
This is a cute story with all the ingredients of a nice romance
novel, however I felt the big "secret" was not really a big deal
and I didn't care for the ending. In spite of this, I did love
most of the characters and their different voices. I am not
sure if a follow-up book is in the plans, but I'd love to read
more about little Tara and also what happens with Alexis's
sister and the Harrington brother.

Once in a Lifetime.......2007-03-05
Danielle Steel is indeed a GENIUS! Once in a Lifetime is a well-crafted and brilliantly written novel! I was in tears by the end of chapter 3, and cried throughout the entirety of the novel. The novel became slow moving towards the last few chapters, but D.Steel picked up speed again and closed the novel perfectly. This novel is a must read!

I really did like this book, although i had seen the tv movie before i read the book, and there was a lot of different things going on in the book that i didn't know about. But i would have to say, that this book kind of depressed me, because Daphne kept having people come into her life and then die, But other than that sappy crap, i really liked it

Product Description
Acting edition of the play, published by Samuel French.
Book Description
With over three million kids playing soccer across the country in the early 1970s, soccer was poised to finally conquer America, and its heartbreaking rise and fall is captured in Gavin Newsham's Once in a Lifetime.
This book tells the story of the New York Cosmos soccer team, which brought the greatest talents of the world's biggest sport to a city awash in celebrity and decadence. In the summer of 1977, entrepreneurial Warner Brothers chairman Steve Ross assembled the best soccer players from across the globe to play for the Cosmos. Pele, the German superstar Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Neeskens, Giorgio Chinaglia, Brazil's 1970 World Cup-winning captain Carlos Alberto, Werner Roth, Roberto Cabanas, and many others all donned Cosmos jerseys and became instant celebrities in the process. The Cosmos quickly became the hottest ticket in town and the Cosmos players soon became enmeshed in a world of millionaires, gangsters, groupies, glamour, power struggles, alcoholic excess, drugs, and fistfights.
Published to coincide with the World Cup in June 2006, Once in a Lifetime is the thrilling story of America's first flirtation with the world's most popular game.
Customer Reviews:
And hopefully, it's only once........2007-06-09
I've now seen the documentary and read the book, and this is a story that is both fascinating and familiar to sports fans. The film sort of centers around the dream of Steve Ross, president of what became Warner Communications and the Cosmos. It paints him as a selfless and daring pioneer who was desperate to make soccer big in this country. To an extent, he really was that. The book is less charitable to his behavior, painting him as a poor sport who brought Warner to its knees. Ross partied on the company's dime, looked like a playboy genius, fouled things up with a few bad decisions, and got out with an enormous bank account. Hey, wouldn't we all love to do that? Except it cost thousands of people at Warner and Atari their jobs. Many American soccer players' dreams of playing in their domestic pro league were crushed. I hope Major League Soccer executives read this as their bible, and don't let history repeat itself. In the end, you have to feel sorry for the fans and players, who hoped in vain their success would last forever. But those few good years were pretty sweet, and it was entertaining to learn what happened behind the scenes after years of wondering.
Touching Characters.......2007-04-05
You'll be in tears by the third chapter and will likely cry the whole way through. The characters are so engaging you can't help it!
Great Story!!!.......2006-11-30
ESPN Classic has been playing the movie made of this book. The two complement each other perfectly.
The story is of the NY Cosmos, a star-laden team that flamed in the late 70s and early 80s. They routinely drew sellout crowds to Giants Stadium, led by such stars as Pele, Beckenbauer, Chinaglia, Alberto. Then a few years later, the team (and the league) disappeared. But what a ride, a hysterical story that is told quite well by Newsham. He interviewed many people (except Pele who reportedly wanted big $$$).
Book is weighed down by Newsham talking about what was happening in the country and world at the time.
But the story is so good. Even if you are NOT a soccer fan, and I am not, it is worth reading.

Required reading for all students of life..........2006-01-05
James Green's book encourages the reader to look within himself/herself, to focus upon their goals, what's important in their lives and also offers some solace that we can learn from our past, in order to improve upon our future. It's refreshing to read a "guide" which isn't another fad. Rather, the author offers thought provoking experiences from diverse individuals, which can be of benefit to all.
Compelling stories where you find yourself.......2006-01-03
Reviewed by William Phenn for Readers Views
James Green, airline pilot turned writer, turned motivationalist. All he has seen and all he has done, does not compare to what he has written in this compelling volume.
Green has interviewed eighty seven people (I shall have to find out why 87 and not 90?) from all walks of life. Taken one aspect of a person's life, he gives the reader an insight into that person which no one has ever heard before. This book has true accounts of lost love, internet love, disappointing careers, unfulfilled dreams, shattered lives and few successes. Successes such as Green, who includes an excerpt from his own life, tells of how he made the right choice in his early years and how that choice, that one single moment in his existence, made an amazing difference in his life.
Green has filled "If There's One Thing I've Learned" with over two hundred and fifty pages of the most interesting accounts of people. Recollections they have had of the good, the bad, and the ugly. One such example is Steve, the thirty seven year old architect, that discovered internet dating. His humorous account of cyber sex and internet dating left me in stitches. Then there is Ron, the thirty nine year old technician, whose story was in the chapter titled "The One Who Got Away" - a heart breaker that will read like a Greek tragedy. On and on, the examples are endless, the stories compelling.
Green has combined every facet of enjoyable reading into this volume. There is joy, drama, tragedy, sex (not erotic) and no violence. If there's one thing I've learned, this is a very enjoyable book that is general audience. Lessons learned in the book are many; see which one relates to you and your life.
I highly recommend this fine piece of literary work to all who can read. You are in here somewhere, mark my words.
A "Moving" Gift.......2005-12-09
I received this book as a gift and was very moved by its content. The author's personal experiences, as well as those of others he shares, serve to remind the reader of the importance of living life without regret ... something I promote in my romance seminars and coaching. This book is definitely worth the read, not to mention you may want to gift someone you love with a copy. Oh, and don't be surprised if you discover that one of the stories you read is very close to your own. Congratulations, Mr. Green!
Life Is To Be Lived Each Moment.......2005-12-02
IF THERE'S ONE THING I'VE LEARNED by James Green is about "how to seize your once in a lifetime chance to get it right." The author has interviewed hundreds of people of all ages and walks of life and asked what is the most important lesson each has learned and how he or she learned it. The stories and the lessons are told in the interviewee's words. Many are followed with a related wise saying from Wisdom teachers of various faiths through the ages
A wonderful read! .......2005-11-02
"To know the road ahead, ask those coming back."
--Chinese Proverb
James Green's interviews with 87 people helped them reveal their moment of truth--and what truth it is. Each story is only a few pages based on: If you could go back and change anything in your life, what would you do differently?
The subtitle of the book is "How to seize your once-in-a-lifetime chance to get it right." It's pretty obvious we will see ourselves in more than one of the stories.
You cannot have a favorite in these stories as each one makes a strong point. For example:
-- A retired NYC cop says he wishes he had been more open minded as a young man relative to people of different races.
-- A young woman tells how she loved men who didn't love her; and was loved by men she didn't love, and how she finally decided to save herself physically and emotionally for the right man.
The author is an airline pilot who decided that "He would listen to the whisper and not let life pass him by, and that he would live his life without regret."
The interview questions he used are part of the book, and if you read them, you will be forced to think about things you learned as each one is a subtle nudge down memory lane.
Can you tell I loved this book! And as a bonus, he included some really great quotes.
Armchair Interviews says with so much downer news in the media and our lives today, these stories so very uplifting.
"Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first,
the lesson afterwards."
-- Vernon Sanders Law, pro baseball player
