Fans of Food Network star Paula Deen enjoy her unpretentious Southern-gal persona as much as her easy, what's-not-to-like recipes. As a writer of four other cookbooks, including The Lady & Sons Just Desserts, restaurant owner, and purveyor of her own product line, she's also something of an entrepreneur. In Paul Deen Celebrates! she offers 170-plus recipes arranged by menus for traditional holidays and other, sometimes whimsical celebrations like Elvis's Birthday and Movie-Watching Pizza Party in Bed. The recipes, which are often Southern-rich, range from the more traditional, such as Shrimp Etouffé, Muffuletta Sandwiches, and Macaroni Salad, to the innovative, including Collard Green Wantons, Grilled Chicken Pita, and Scallop and Bacon Pizza. Her sweets include the likes of Old Fashioned Banana Pudding, Gooey Toffee Butter Cake and Margarita Mousse. Offered also are decorating tips, and "Paula's Pearls of Wisdom" like "treasure today's moment's because they will tomorrow's memories."

Deen's dishes couldn't be more approachable and will doubtlessly inspire many holiday menus. Readers should know, however, that she regularly calls for convenience products like cake mixes and canned soups, whose use (by now something of an American tradition in itself) can do little to make homemade food taste as good as it otherwise might. Paula Deen Celebrates! should, however, excite Deen's many fans, who, along with the attractive formulas, receive lots of "back-story" on the author's own celebrations, life, and mostly good times. --Arthur Boehm

Book Description

Beloved Food Network personality, restaurateur, and author Paula Deen loves a party, and in her latest book, Paula Deen Celebrates!, Paula shares with fans old and new how she celebrates a year's worth of holidays and special occasions. Now anyone can share in the down-home celebrations Paula, her husband, Michael, their kids, and extended family enjoy at their beautiful home in Savannah, Georgia.

What better way to start off the New Year than with a New Year's Eve Brunch with friends -- at midnight! This colorful celebration includes Crab and Spinach Casserole and Baked Tomatoes, and finishes with a quintessentially southern Hummingbird Cake and Irish Coffee. Welcome St. Patrick's Day, Savannah style, with Lamb Stew and Green Grits Pie. The centerpiece of an Easter dinner is a Peanut Butter-Glazed Ham, accompanied by Spinach-Swiss Casserole, Squash Boats, and flaky Butterhorns, with a bonus recipe for Ham Salad that makes eating leftovers a treat. Looking for a reason to party, south-of-the-border style? Try Paula's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta menu, with Macho Nachos and a cool and creamy Margarita Mousse. Paula honors the memory of her mother, and all the other women who have blessed her life, with a Mother's Day Tea of dainty sandwiches and irresistible cookies served on her best china, and fathers get their due with a Father's Day Boating Picnic. The Fourth of July is the perfect occasion for an Outdoor Grill Party and Low-Country Boil, and if what you want is a quiet evening at home, pop a movie in the DVD player and chow down on your choice of Paula's savory and sweet pizzas. Gather the family to watch some football and savor Jamie's Cheeseburger Pies, and give family and friends the gift of a sweet treat at the holidays with Paula's Icebox Fruitcake or Peppermint Bark. Her Christmas feast starts with Cranberry Holiday Brie and stars an impressive Standing Rib Roast, with Twice-Baked Potato Casserole. The show-stopping dessert is Paula's butter-laden Coconut Pound Cake glazed with coconut syrup and covered with icing and toasted coconut!

Paula brings you into her home, her kitchen, and her heart with family stories and photographs. This time, her husband, Michael, sons Jamie and Bobby, and brother, Bubba, chime in to share their memories, too. Decorating and serving ideas will inspire you to use what you have to carry through a theme to make the most informal meal special. And Paula shares her most private thoughts in a special feature -- Paula's Pearls of Wisdom -- which you'll find with each menu.

Paula Deen Celebrates! is Paula at her very southern best. Join her in making and sharing her best dishes for the best times of your life.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book! One week in and already far less stress!.......2007-10-04

I've practiced David Allen's system for about a year now, but still couldn't get the "techy" end of it working smoothly. After only a week on Michael's system, my stress level is low, I'm leaving the office at the end of the day with my Daily Task list empty, and my inbox flutters around 5-6 items (previously getting my inbox under 100 was an accomplishment). Michael walks you step-by-step through the implementation of the system. My only words of advice: If you're going to do it, commit 100% -- do not ease up or the inherent trust you have in the system will collapse.

5 out of 5 stars Total Workday Control.......2007-10-03

This book is a great way to learn how to manage your Outlook e-mail in an easy to follow, step-by-step methodology. I had taken David Allen's seminar, Getting Things Done, and this book really helped to close the loop on implimentation. Well worth the time and money spent.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book!.......2007-10-02

I am a professor at a major research university in the US. I have struggled with dealing with multiple tasks and emails for years...until I have embraced the fantastic system described in this great book. If you use Outlook as your major portal for email and tasks, you MUST read this book. The approach here is logical and work for you. It is that good.

David Drake

5 out of 5 stars This really works.......2007-09-30

I have been using Michael Linenberger's system for about 3 months now and my productivity has increased tenfold. With this system, I have a way to track important tasks and I feel that I am on top of my job.

5 out of 5 stars Finally! A 'Real World' Implementation of Outlook that really works!.......2007-09-22

I TOTALLY agree with all of the 5 star reviews...after struggling with David Allen's Getting Things Done (GTD) system for 6-9 months I finally found what really works.

In this book you'll get an actual implementation that works--meaning a regularly empty inbox (and I deal with hundreds of emails a week), a fantastic way to organize and systematically get dozens of tasks (including those you delegate to others with a perfect way to close open loops) w/ a corresponding sense of accomplishment and feeling of being on top of it that is incredible.

I have done it all: Day Timer, Covey's system, used Palm Pilots/Treo's, etc and nothing has ever even come close to Michael Linenberger's system.

I have already implemented this with two of my direct reports and they are ecstatic with the fact that they too have a empty inbox, no more sticky notes, etc.

My only request is for the author to get out a version of this book that is 100% targeted/customized for Outlook 2007 ASAP.

5 out of 5 stars The 25 Best Time Management Tools & Techniques.......2007-09-05

I have been taking time management courses for over 15 years, but i learned more in this time management tool than i ever learned in those courses. Each chapter is filled with tidbits of information that you can quickly put to use to become more effective in your career development. The chapters on vision and goals are excellent. I have benefited greatly from the tips, albeit small when you look at them in the book, will make a big difference once applied to your life. Love the book. Am passing it on to a coworker tomorrow.

2 out of 5 stars Not the best.......2007-07-10

I didn't find this book as helpful as I had wished. The chapters only touch the tip of the iceberg and don't necessarily go into detail on how to implement the techniques.

The book could have been much more cohesive and comprehensive.

5 out of 5 stars Great resource for the mildly disorganized.......2007-03-08

Pros: The book is laid out into 25 chapters, and each one is no more than 4-5 pages in length, making it easy to glance over the Table of Contents, and read quickly through whatever interests you most. Each lesson is 'en pointe', and doesn't waste time with casual talk and yet is engaging and written with utmost clarity. The book is fairly thin, and can fit in a large purse or briefcase. It can be read straight through (as I'm doing) or you can bounce around.

Cons: After ordering the book online, I got an email telling me that the book would be delayed by delivery for 4-6 weeks, instead of the 1-3 weeks I expected initially. Fortunally, it arrived in 3 weeks, since it came back into stock.

My Personal Thoughts: I like this book, because time management isn't exactly "pleasurable reading" for me. So, this is very quick & dirty. Instead of reading the whole book, I am tackling each chapter at a time, and within a month of owning the book, I'm halfway through re-organizing the clutter in my apartment, and have created a "tickler" file at work, which has already made my life less stressful, and easier to get to work, and quickly get started on projects. I could see myself referring back to this book in the future for tips. ..Conclusion: Definitely a keeper, but you must come with your own motivation, otherwise it'll just collect dust on your shelf.

4 out of 5 stars A time saver.......2007-02-19

The "Cliff's notes" of Time Management.

I found the information was clear, concise and well presented. It's a good book to have on your desk as a reference when you feel yourself drifting into disorganization to motivate you to get back on track.

The only thing is I felt like it was snippets with no real cohesion. You could read it thinking...well I could do this, and that, or this and that... but there was no clear philosophy to bring it all together.

It's an excellent sampler of approaches, though...and as someone who has read many of the same books listed, I'd attest that the author's understanding and abbreviated versions of each of the time management techniques are spot-on.

5 out of 5 stars 20 Time Management Books in One.......2007-02-06

I liked this book so much that I just purchased 5 additional copies for family and friends. The authors present in one manageable volume lessons from the top 20 time management books on the amazon.com website. The book is divided into 6 sections and 25 short chapters covering diverse subjects such as identifying one's own values, writing a mission statement, organizing living and work spaces, overcoming procrastination and managing stress. In addition, there are helpful reviews of the 20 time management books the authors chose along with reviews of other helpful books such as Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, one of my personal favorites. This book is highly readable, practical and comprehensive. It is essentially a digest or executive summary of the best books on the subject. It is well organized and can be used as an easy continuing reference. I hope you get as much out of it as I did.

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL COLLECTION!.......2007-07-05

There are many interesting articles in this wonderful collection of travel articles from the New York Times. This great book covers Italy from top to bottom and it includes articles of some well known cities such as Rome and Venice as well as some unknown villages and islands. This book shows how diversfied a small country such as Italy is. The photos are gorgeous and the writing is superb from the many different talented writers. I highly recommend this book to any fan of Italy or of travel. This is much more than a coffee table book. Also, a great price through Amazon!

5 out of 5 stars italy !.......2007-04-11

this book is superb. plenty of great photos and informative writing. if we get to italy we will feel comfortable in a foreign speaking country as we will have learned heaps about the people and more about this interesting destination. this book covers all the areas from top to bottom and places in between. thanks to amazon for this purchase as i could find nothing like it in new zealand with such interesting information ! yes it is a must weather you get to italy or not and has pride of place in the travel section of our library.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gift.......2006-02-28

I got this beautiful book for two dear friends, brilliant musicians, who will be traveling to Italy soon. They were entranced, and have thanked me several times, saying the book makes them feel "as if we are already in Italy."

4 out of 5 stars Italy Coffee Table Book.......2006-02-25

The book is beautifully photographed. It has pictures of some out of the way places that some of the other brochures and books don't touch on. If you are looking for information, this is not the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Discovering/ Revisiting Every Corner of Italy: THE Book To Read Before Travel.......2005-11-19

This is one of those books that defies description. Formed as a joint project between the Italian Tourism people and the New York Times, this generously illustrated volume covers all of Italy, not only photographically but also with immensely readable and helpful articles about the regions, the people and their idiosyncrasies, the culture, the history, the sights not to be missed, the foods, and an ebullient flow of gentle humor that makes this the first choice of reading in preparation for a visit to this popular country - or an invaluable memento for perusing once home from the pleasures Italian.

Not only are there superb 'articles' by NY Times staff writers about the famous places (Milan, Rome, Venice, Florence, Sienna, etc), but here are also vignettes about the tiny secrets of Italy like Posillipo, the Aeolian Islands, Trieste, Portofino and on and on. Forty articles do far more than describe a place: these articles are written by people who can define the flavors so clearly they leap from the page.

Keeping the book in the realm of art, the introduction is by none other than the brilliant Italian novelist Umberto Eco who puts a spin on the wealth of pleasures that follow, basking in Italy's history and the reasons the people are so unique. It is a joy to read. Highly Recommended for both active and armchair travelers! Grady Harp, November 05

Book Description

My fellow Americans:

It is our pleasure, our honor, our duty as citizens to present to you Duck for President. Here is a duck who began in a humble pond. Who worked his way to farmer. To governor. And now, perhaps, to the highest office in the land.

Some say, if he walks like a duck and talks like a duck, he is a duck.

We say, if he walks like a duck and talks like a duck, he will be the next president of the United States of America.

Thank you for your vote.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Elections explained in fun way.......2007-09-30

I loved this book. Ordered it for a school project for young children; then ordered more for others. I liked that it includes that the farm animals have to be registered to vote, they have to meet criteria, they fight for their rights. Includes a lot of info in a fun way.

4 out of 5 stars They dynamic duo strikes again.......2007-08-05

You had me at "Click Clack Moo" and my son still breaks down into hysterical gut busting laughter every single time he reads "Giggle Giggle Quack".

Imagine my surprise when I hear my husband laughing hysterically while reading my son a story. I said what is going on and he says "It Duck!" He could not even hold it together to give me the gist of the story. It was entertaining and educational (sneaking in a little social studies).

Thank you for creating a wonderful family experience. Also now, my son wants to run for president so he can get out of chores.

But we have to save that five star for Giggle Giggle Quack.

4 out of 5 stars A fun look at the electorial process........2007-06-05

I liked Click, Clack, Moo and Giggle, Giggle, Quack. This one hasn't really grown on me.

It starts with duck not liking his chores of mowing the lawn, taking out the garbage, and grinding coffee. He decides Farmer Brown is wrong and holds an election. He wins and learns running a farm is tough. Time to be Governor! He wins and learns it's hard work. Time to be President! Which he wins and learns its the toughest job of all. Time to retire and right the autobiography.

There are humor spots as this is an attempt to make fun of the electoral process. It's done in a good way and it makes references to past Presidents. I particularly liked the JFK pose.

Overall it's a good book. My daughter likes it and that's what counts!

4 out of 5 stars Geatest Book Ever!.......2007-03-29

This book was an enjoyable book. This book teaches me that you can do what you have always wanted. The book teaches us how is important to vote in these days. Will I want you to read this funny book!

3 out of 5 stars Duck For President.......2007-02-21

This is a fun and enjoyable children's book. The book's humor makes it interesting and funny. Duck for President can teach about how fun the electoral process can be.
It is an educational storybook for kids. It includes duck campaigning, winning over voters, and being elected. The book is silly because it is so unreal. A duck on a farm becomes the president of the United States of America. Duck for President teaches you to never give up and to follow your dreams. Duck made a good campaign, studied his opponent, and came away with the win.
This is a fun and enjoyable book that teaches you a lot about the electoral process. It is very silly and teaches you a lesson about how to follow your dreams. It will be a quick read that could give you some laughs.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Guide for Beginners.......2007-06-16

The author writes a nice overview of the entrepreneurial process. It's basically for novices but it does a good job for this audience. The only problem I have with this book is that it is too basic and is therefore non-unique because it is so low-level. Regardless, I must say that for the right audience, it does a fine job over giving the big picture.

If you are advanced or aspire to become advanced, I would recommend "The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" but only for high-tech entrepreneurs. Even this author has recommended it.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Entrepreneurs.......2007-05-14

Steven gives great illustrations to drive home his insightful advice for entrepreneurs. As he's "been there, done that," we can take his advice to heart in the hopes of becoming a success like him!

5 out of 5 stars Exellent Book.......2007-05-11

Great book for getting ready to open a new business. Would refer to anyone thinking about opening a business.

5 out of 5 stars Brief and to the point.......2007-04-27

This is a delightful little book that contains a wealth of useful and helpful information and ideas on starting a small business and ensuring that it is viable and succesful. The book is well written and easy to follow and interesting to read.

This is a must read for entrepreneurs, particularly budding ones as the information the book provides is very practical and can help you avoid making costly errors. The book covers a wide range of topics including the start-up process, marketing the business on a small budget, cash-flow forecasting, among other things.

The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.

5 out of 5 stars Invaluable advice for the budding entrepreneur.......2007-03-04

This book does a terrific job of presenting some of the most important issues entrepreneurs face when embarking on new ventures, touching on topics such as the business plan, funding, team building, and cash flows. Using simple, yet stunningly accurate models of the entrepreneurial process, Steven Gold distills complex subjects into simple, practical, take-away messages. The classification of entrepreneurial personalities (professionals, pragmatists, and inventors) is something I think we can all relate to. I find the metaphor which compares building a new company to making "stone soup" equally compelling. There are countless books out there for budding entrepreneurs, but this one is no fluff. It gets right down to the nuts and bolts so you can concentrate on your business.

Book Description

Get Ready to Run!

A complete guide to training for a half or full marathon in sixteen weeks, this book follows the format of Tom's previous book The 12-Week Triathlete with simply the best advice on how to run your fastest race while staying injury-free. Whether you are a first-time marathoner, trying to set a new "PR" or looking to qualify for Boston, this book is for you.

"TRAIN LESS AND RUN YOUR BEST"

Some worry that running a marathon will involve hours upon hours of training each week. Others fear that they will become injured. Some veteran marathoners have followed other training plans and experienced both, but Tom's approach is much different. His philosophy of "train less, run your best" will amaze you whether you are running your first marathon or fiftieth. Exercise physiologist and sports performance coach Tom Holland -- an elite endurance athlete himself and sub-3 hour marathoner who has run in more than fifty marathons, three ultramarathons, and a dozen Ironman triathlons around the world will teach you how to properly gear up and train in the sixteen weeks prior to your half or full marathon. So when that starting gun sounds, you'll be equipped with invaluable tips and techniques that will put you in position to run the best race of your life.

The Marathon Method provides you with everything you need to know including:

5 out of 5 stars First timer.......2007-10-19

I'm a 42 year old father of 2. Mid-July I decided to run the Long Beach Marathon with my best friend, who had run 2 marathons previously. It would be my first; I had done a little bit of running, but didn't even own running shoes. I bought Tom Holland's book "The Marathon Method", then I bought shoes.

To make a long story short, using only this book as a training guide, 12 weeks after buying shoes and taking up running, I ran the Long Beach Marathon last Sunday in 3:59:12, beating my friend by 6 minutes. My time would have been even better if I'd not ignored one of Tom's marathon "commandments" about staying hydrated (I didn't like energy drink provided at the race). Bottom line is, Tom Holland's training marathon training methods, in my opinion, have you running just enough miles to properly prepare you for the race while still keeping running pleasurable!! I enjoyed and looked forward to all my training runs and definitely got benefits from the strength training in between runs. Additionally, the other race preparation advice (mental strategies, diet, supplements, equipment, etc.) were extremely helpful. I highly reccomend this book.

5 out of 5 stars Good program.......2007-10-08

I used the advanced marathon training program in this book to cut my marathon time in 4 months from 3:45:17 in Prague to 3:13:55 in Berlin. I ignored his strength/core workout and did the performance training program from [...] instead on strength and core days. This book was excellent for me. The only disappoinment for me was the lack of detailed information on the mysterious taper period before the race day. Two thumbs up though.

4 out of 5 stars Great book with lots of practical advice...........2007-08-28

This is a very simple and straightforward book on preparing for your first marathon. It is systematic and easy to follow. If you haven't run this far before and you are intimidated, this will help you to get over it.

It may sound like a strange suggestion, but I also recommend Making a Change for Good: A Guide to Compassionate Self-Discipline. This later book has a nice 30 day retreat in the back that will help you with your mental game. If you don't know what I mean, you will once you start running those long distances.

With respect to my background, I was an all state runner in my late teens and ran a lot of long distance events in my 20s. I also have a graduate education in physiology and biochemistry and worked with another person in training athletes in my late twenties. Since then, I have had back and neck injuries and don't do a whole lot of running. However, I'm thinking of wading back into this stream and the gentle approach put forward here seems scientifically sound, easy to follow and simple.

I had a knee injury that was chronic when I was about 12. I got into running because I had a lot of trouble walking and was overweight. Running helped me to get over this injury, restore my self confidence and realize the power of the mind and relationship between the mind and body. This is my current pursuit and passion. Literally, a doctor told my mother I wouldn't be running and would be wearing a splint, she passed away a few years ago... but she showed me the power of intention, commitment, etc. That is not to say everyone can do anything, but most of the time I believe we limit ourselves.

If you have injuries I advise you to talk to your health care provider before taking up running. It also a good idea from a cardiovascular point of view... remember Jim Fix?! However, most people who are reasonably health can run a marathon if they train systematically. Good luck on running your first... and many thereafter. I hope to do one again sometime soon as well.

5 out of 5 stars My review.......2007-08-16

Just what I was looking for in terms of detail, easy-read...everything I wanted to know as a first time marathon runner.

    Book Description

Upriver and Downstream gathers seventy columns about fishing—from freshwater to saltwater, from small ponds to the Great Lakes, from the Pacific Northwest to post-Soviet Russia—written for the “Outdoors” column of the New York Times.

Contributors include such celebrated names as Nick Lyons, Thomas McGuane, Nelson Bryant, Peter Kaminsky, Ernest Schweibert, and Robert H. Boyle. Short, evocative, informative, and entertaining, here are pieces about fly-fishing for wild brook trout, bait-fishing for striped bass, casting into tailwaters, or angling in midwinter. The settings range from Hudson River piers to the Florida Everglades, from Iceland to the Amazon, and the fish include everything from the common sunfish to the esoteric paddlefish. These engaging essays remind us of what fishing is all about: companionship and solitude, challenge and relaxation, nature and technology, from coast-to-coast to around the globe.

Rich with the particulars of water, light, and air, as well as a keen awareness of, as Verlyn Klinkenborg puts it in his introduction, “what is happening out there—in the deep, in the shallows, at the end of the line,” these reflections and recollections beautifully capture the natural world and one of life’s most challenging, perennial pursuits.

    Book Description

The Best of James Herriot is one of the most extraordinary volumes ever devoted to the work and world of a contemporary writer. Within its covers are unforgettable episodes from the remarkable series of memoirs that began with All Creatures Great and Small-"the ones my family and I have laughed at over the years and the ones my readers have said they most enjoyed," as Herriot, himself, put it. Yet the book is far more than a simple anthology: Its gorgeous pages also include hundreds of line drawings and color photographs, capturing Herriot's Yorkshire in a worthy complement to the writer's words. The 1991 publication of Every Living Thing, rendered the original edition of this book incomplete. This fall will mark the publication of the complete, definitive edition with the addition of five of his best, more recent stories, as well as new art. Once again The Best of James Herriot becomes the quintessential Herriot volume-one of those invaluable books that will be loved as much in decades to come as it is today.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Book for all ages.......2007-01-16

A very bright and beautiful book, with nice pictures and side articles, which help you know more about animals described in the book. All stories are easy to read and full of sparkly humor and affection to animals and nature. Reading it you may easily find yourself laughing over things at one page, and crying at the next one. This book is equally great for both children and adults.

5 out of 5 stars Many hours of pleasure await the reader of Jame Herriot.......2007-01-10

If you love animals and you haven't read James Herriot then you simply must! These stories are so full of humour, sadness, joy and lots of plain common sense and wisdom that you will love every minute of reading them. It is amazing to read that the author had such a long struggle to have his work published that he almost gave up. What a loss to the world that would have been! The story of his life is told by his son in the book "The Real James Herriot" - make sure you read that one also!

    5 out of 5 stars A Must Buy!.......2005-11-05

What can one add to the already vivid detail of the life of Alfred Wight? Fortunately nothing except the illustrations for those of us with little perception of what the farming community and the towns around Yorkshire were like in the 30's and 40's. The fact too, that it's in hardcover will ensure it's permanent place on your bookshelf of treasured writings.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of James Herriot.......2005-10-16

Even though the book was used, it was in excellent condition. The pictures throughout help to make this book a very good purchase for the money. James Herriot is a wonderful storyteller and the reader finds himself/herself able to have the experience of almost being there in person.

4 out of 5 stars Don't expect to laugh as much or long as usual.......2005-02-16

Knowing the unabridged version of one of Herriot's books, I was disappointed at not being able to laugh as much with these, shortened versions of the stories and abridged collection in general. But even if you have Herriot's unabridged volumes, this book is still worth buying for the illustrations and descriptions of his tools and world, not to mention the photos. If you buy it and it makes you go out and buy the whole collection, just give this copy as a gift; it's that worthy.

4 out of 5 stars Delivers as Promised.......2007-01-03

The subtitle of this book is: The 100 Most Influential Management Books You'll Never Have Time to Read. The first thing I did was go through the table of contents and do a mental note of how many of these books I had heard of (about 85-90), then I did a count of those I had read (17). Such is part of the fun of looking at any sort of list of what is considered "best."

I think the key criterion for "best" in this case is most influential, which helps me make more sense of what is included and some of what isn't.

The book is useful in that each chapter (one for each of the 100 books) follows the same template, sharing a brief summary, the key ideas the book highlighted and a bit of context - how the book fits into the world and the impact it has had.

If you are looking to become more conversant in some classic business literature and ideas, or if you are looking for a guide to help you fill the gaps in your own library, this book would be a good choice.

It might not be a book to sit down with at the fire, but it is worth considering and taking a look at.

    4 out of 5 stars Needs a better index.......2005-07-12

This book is similar to the Ultimate Business Library, the latest edition of which summarizes less books (75 in the latest edition rather than 100), but is longer. The Ultimate Business Library also has a better index. This book's index is only an author index, which is necessary because the summaries are arranged alphabetically by book title rather than by author. The Ultimate Business Library, on the other hand, arranges them alphabetically by author. Personally, I would prefer them to be arranged chronologically. This book also does not show the publication year of the books in the table of contents. So, it is difficult to read them in chronological order. The Ultimate Business Library wins out in this respect as well. I still like The Best Business Books Ever, but I wish I had bought the Ultimate Business Library instead.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent review of the 100 most influential business books.......2003-11-03

BBBe provides a two-page summary of the hundred most influential business books. The mix is eclectic, including modern authors, such as Peter Senge and Peter Drucker, as well as historical writers, such as Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz and John Stuart Mill.

Probably someone will complain that this is just another `Cliff Notes' of business books, but it provides an interesting history of attitudes towards business and a starting point for anyone looking for a guide to business books worth reading.
