Fun Fun Fun.......2007-05-01
Out of the 13 short stories, I enjoyed 10 thoroughly. A great way to discover some authors I was unfamiliar with. A great investment.
Funny and Tender.......2007-04-05
I bought this book because I'm an avid fan of Jennifer Weiner. As a result I have been introduced to the fun and whimsical writing of the other authors who contributed their short stories.
Each short story is engaging and very entertaining.
Fun to read!!.......2006-11-10
The book was great- I dont usually like short stories but it was perfect for when I was working out or just needed a quick break from reality!
Fun read most of the time.......2006-11-06
Most of the short stories were quite good and left me wanting to delve into the characters more; others not so much. Overall a good, light read.
Women Authors.......2006-08-20
This was a great way to "sample" lots of new authors. The stories were well written, and I intend to read books by several of the authors, I enjoyed them so much.

Just a Little Critter Collection.......2006-07-11
A fun collection of some of the best of Mercer Meyer. His books are always a delight.
We love this one!.......2006-06-04
After almost 8 months, this is still a bedtime favorite. My son and I love it. We especially like searching each page for the little spider, mouse and grasshopper. Thanks, Mr. Mayer, for many wonderful evenings of snuggling and reading!
Customer Reviews:
So so........2004-06-29
The story of Sifford is a very inspiring one. The book was just written in a horrible way. Every other sentance starts with the word "hell". It gets boring afterwards. The first half of the book moves very slowly, but the second half picks up a little more speed. This book will let people know that before Tiger Woods, there was Charlie, Lee Elder, and a lot of other guys too. It is a very good book. What Sifford went through was just horrid, but that's the reality of the world we live in. I could never blame him for being so bitter after all these years of obstacles and not being praised for what he has done. Never mind praise - just for not being allowed to play the game of golf. My limited grasp on golf parlance probably made it a little boring to read this book. But it's a good book, although it may make you a little sleepy.
A great book!!!.......2001-04-28
I read this book a few years back before it was offered through normal distribution channels. Mr. Sifford was actually distributing this book from his home. Being from Greensboro and a golfer, I was extremely impressed by Mr. Sifford's commitment to the game and his determination to play as a PGA professional. You truly wonder what the golfing world has already missed by not allowing Mr. Sifford and other African American golfers to pursue their dreams. When Mr. Sifford was attempting to break the "color barrier" there were more black professional golfers than there is today! His story is heartbreaking and encouraing, what he and other black golfers experienced (to include in my hometown of Greensboro NC) is almost beyond belief! I would strongly recommend reading this book.
Any hacker worth his putter should read this one !.......1998-08-04
This book took me to a time when all african -americans could look to their heritage with pride. Jackie Robinson was a great man and I place the accomplishments of Charlie Sifford right along side of his. He showed us what real intestinal fortitude is all about. This should be required reading for all youngsters interested in participating in sports. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great story of courage under enormous pressure. This book teaches us about the strength and character we all posess inside.

Book Description
Kipling's own drawings, with their long, funny captions, illustrate his hilarious explanations of How the Camel Got His Hump, How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin, How the Armadillo Happened, and other animal How's. He began inventing these stories in his American wife's hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont, to amuse his eldest daughter--and they have served ever since as a source of laughter for children everywhere.
Customer Reviews:
Beware of reading this to young children..........2007-10-15
This book was precious to me as a young child. I enjoyed it immensely and looked forward to sharing it with my children. Not sure if my parents "edited" when reading, however, I was shocked to find the "N" word in several stories. I know that this is classic literature ~ just be warned.
Also, several stories contained a great deal of violence. Characters spanking and hitting one another... save it for your older children or when you are ready to have discussions with your children about these matters.
perennial favorite.......2007-05-18
Kipling's delightful stories continue to enthrall a new generation. Lyrical, funny, packed with fanciful explanations for everything from the camel's hump to the elephant's trunk, they just beg to be read aloud and appeal to children of all ages. My three-year-old granddaughter loved the book so much, especially the story about the elephant's child, that I bought her a copy of her own for a fourth birthday present.
Other books recently enjoyed by the now four-year-old granddaughter (and suitable for older children as well) include Three Tales of My Father's Dragon and Mountains of the Moon.
Way, Way Better Than I Ever Dreamed Of.......2007-03-02
When I first bought this book, I thought it would be quite dull. Boy, was I wrong. I loved it from start to finish. Kipling shines as a a master humorist and storyteller, and through my reading of "Just So Stories" I never once had to stretch myself wondering why he was so popular in his day and why he won the Nobel Prize. His work speaks for itself.
I really likes his commentaries on his own pictures.
-"I should like to paint him with paint-box colours, but I am not allowed."
-"Pau Amma is trying to make a Magic, but he is only a silly old King Crab, and so he can't do anything."
-"It is all a magic picture, and that is one of the reasons why I haven't drawn the Jaguar's whiskers."
Absolutely wonderful.
More pics, please.......2006-08-14
My children so loved the Rikki Tikki Tavi video--based on a Kipling video--that I wanted to find other Kipling stories on tape (besides the Jungle Book). I wasn't successful, but I found many different editions of Just So Stories. It was hard to choose!
I'm disappointed with the outcome. While it's a nice, full collection of the stories, there is only one illustration per story--not at all like the picture-rich edition I had as a child.
To shop online for kiddy books (my children are 5, 4 and 3), it's important for it to be vivid how picture rich the book is (or isn't).
Great Book.......2006-03-09
It's a nice budget edition of the famous book with sophisticated authors' illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Doesn't flow. Story wasn't catchy. Not for us........2007-07-03
Every time we attemt to read this to our daughter, it is a clumbsy-read that does not capture our child's attention. I was attracted to the cover and we haven't apprecated much more than that. So the 2 stars are for the illustrations.
Beautiful Colors.......2005-05-12
What a wonderful story! I wish I had this book when I was a child. The protagonist is a beautiful little girl whose mother is black and her father is white. She describes their differences in color, but they are united in love. She describes how her color is "just right." What a gentle and lovely way to explain the physical racial differences, similarities and self identity and pride.
My favorite uncle who was a very astute man used to say, "God mixes and adds more colors so there are more colors to love. Birds, butterflies, flowers and peacocks have all these beautiful colors and God picked our colors for us as well. He wanted more beauty for the world, so He was always thinking up more beautiful colors to add to it."
I also recommend "David's Drawing," "Colors Come From God Just Like Me," "The Two Mrs. Gibsons," a book about a beautiful little girl whose mother is Japanese and her father is black and "How My Parents Learned to Eat," another delightful book about a bi-racial child and the two cultures she happily shares. This book deserves a place of honor! It is for everybody!
Black, White, Just Right!.......2004-08-19
My 4 year old (bi-racial) son really enjoys this book. It is nice to have a story with a diverse family. I am glad that it mentions race only briefly and shows that it is just another difference in their (& our) lives...just as their size, tastes and talents are different. The prose is a little mature for him and I have to explain what most of it means after each page...but he still loves it.
Bi- Racial 4 yr old daughter LOVES to have this read to her.......2003-02-23
My 4yr old daughter loves to have this read to her. She used to identify with herself as I'm "BOTH" (black & white), now she says "she's just right too". It's so light and age appropriate, while touching on the differences and similiarities of others. I love that the diffrences that are pointed out in this book between the mommy and daddy are not stereotyped by a the like's or dislike's of the black/white race. Beatiful illustrations and catchy rhymes. A definete must get.
Lovely book.......2002-05-22
Simple text with rhyme and readable cadence makes this an enjoyable read for a preschool classroom. The little girl enjoys many things with her black mother and white father, AND has many tastes and interests of her own. A bi-racial girl in my class was immediately drawn to this story, as were other children who simply enjoyed the story.

Book Description
Wynne Connelly is marketing manager for a major travel organization and her job requires that she attend meetings twice monthly at the company's Orlando headquarters.
Paula McKenzie is second-in-command on the night shift at the Weller Regent - an upscale hotel in Orlando. The same upscale hotel that Wynne Connelly stays in whenever she's in Orlando.
Paula finds herself intrigued by the twice-monthly guest, who possesses an aura of mystery and elegant beauty.
When things grow hectic one night at the front desk, Paula emerges to lend a hand - just in time to greet Wynne at check-in. Their exchange borders on mild flirtation and both women come away feeling sparks.
Soon they begin spending time together and share more than just a kiss. And while Paula is elated at the prospect of the budding romance, Wynne is alarmed at her loss of self-control. Ever mindful of the obligations back home that she must honor, she struggles to resist Paula's fascination and allure...
Customer Reviews:
Star-crossed.......2007-07-27
It was an okay read. I almost lost hope that the main characters would get together. It wasn't the best lesbian romance that I've read but it wasn't the worst either. It was an entertaining, quick novel to read.
Suspenseful Romance.......2007-05-10
Two women become friends while fighting extreme attraction to each other. You'll be kept in suspense as the women work through their problems.
Romance! Heartbreak! .......2007-02-28
Paula McKenzie is a rising star within the Weller-Regent hotel. Now second-in-command on the night shift, Paula has dreams of having her own hotel. Wynne Connelly, marketing manager for a travel organization and frequent guest at the hotel, may just put a kink in Paula's plans.
An attraction to each other is almost immediate. However, one of them has obligations to people in her life that allows no room for a romance...right? The other has reasons of her own that she's not sure sound all that valid, even to herself.
Nevertheless, a friendship begins, even as the attraction remains. There's no harm in that...or is there? Just as things seem to be going smoothly, they lose control and a friendship is destroyed before it even had a chance of becoming anything more.
But sometimes people are given second chances to make things right. Life unexpectedly gives one to Paula and Wynne. Will they take it? Or will they see it as a lesson learned hard and go their separate ways? Second chances, after all, are only for the lucky.
KG MacGregor certainly has a way with words. The author of thoroughly entertaining tales as the short story Stolen Souls, in the anthology Undercover Tales; the short story, I Told You So, in the anthology Telltale Kisses and full-length novels such as the suspense-filled Malicious Pursuit, the delightful Mulligan, and the dramatic The House on Sandstone, gives readers a truly great story in Just This Once of love, life's lessons and of hope for second chances. KG's soon to be released novel, Sumter Point, available in March 2007, is sure to show that KG's affinity with the written word is very much in evidence.
just a little more.......2007-01-04
It seemed a bit formulaic...
girl meets girl, they attract, they have sex, complications but miraculously shed all their entanglements to find each other...
Just This Once.......2006-12-20
Good book to read. It keeps you in suspense as to the romance. I enjoyed it.

Book Description
This well-loved Little Critter picture book has become a modern classic. It's the tale of a father-and-son camping trip filled with Little Critter's mistakes and good intentions. In spite of difficulties, however, the happy father and son manage to put up their tent, catch fish for dinner, and sleep beneath the stars. In spite of minimal text, the story is full and rich, with endearing illustrations from start to finish.
Customer Reviews:
Love these books.......2007-08-10
My sons gave this to my husband for fathers day. They are all great books!
Wonderful story of special times.......2007-08-06
Again Mercer Mayer has captured a special moment full of it's ups and downs. Along with his beautiful art work this book is a joy to read with your little one. My children seem to enjoy the special characters that are along for the trip also. See if your little one can find them as you read. Little Critter always portrays the curiosity and eagerness of children and the funny mishaps that come from that curiosity and eagerness. I have loved Mercer Meyer since I was a child and enjoy that my children do too!
Outdoor fun.......2007-01-18
This short story about going camping with dad fits our family perfectly. I love the art work.
Being Fair.......2007-01-17
It's always easy to find a book relating to the child/mother relationship, but it's a little more difficult finding a book relating to the child/father relationship. So this was quite a delightful find. It was written exceptionally well, and my stepdaughter enjoyed reading it.
Mercer Mayer Books as a new tradition.......2006-11-05
When my 3 sons were little, they constantly begged me to read all of Mercer Mayer's books to them, but especially Just Me and My Dad. Now that my oldest son is grown and has a 3-year old daughter of his own, it has become her personal favorite. Children love the adorable characters and the humor contained in all of Mayer's books, even at very young ages. A great, easy to read bedtime story for all children!!
Book Description
In this gorgeous collection featuring eight of Kipling's JUST SO STORIES, each tale is illustrated by a different leading contemporary artist.
How did the rude Rhinoceros get his baggy skin? How did a 'satiably curious Elephant change the lives of his kin evermore? First told aloud to his young daughter ("O my Best Beloved"), Rudyard Kipling's inspired answers to these and other burning questions draw from the fables he heard as a child in India and the folktales he gathered from around the world. Now, in this sumptuous volume, Kipling's playful, inventive tales are brought to life by eight of today's celebrated illustrators, from Peter Sís's elegantly graphic cetacean in "How the Whale Got His Throat" to Satoshi Kitamura's amusingly expressive characters in "The Cat That Walked by Himself." From one of the world's greatest storytellers come eight classic tales just begging to be heard by a new generation — and a visual feast that offers a reward with every retelling.
Featuring illustrations by:
Christopher Corr
Cathie Felstead
Jeff Fisher
Satoshi Kitamura

Customer Reviews:
My son loved this book.......2007-09-11
I don't understand the other comment about not being appropriate for children because my son loved it! A friend gave me this book when my son was 3 years old. I went through it first, to see what the stories were like, before reading any to him. He was used to all the Disney stories up until then, but really liked the stories in this book. This was back in 1989 and 1990. His favorite was "How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin." Unfortunately, I sold the book when I moved so now have to buy a new copy that I will give to a friend having a baby. My son still remembers this book and how much fun it was to listen to the stories.
Not what I expected.......2007-07-29
I had the impression the stories would be good to read to a child, they weren't.
kipling's just so stories.......2007-02-26
As these stories were written in another era they may not seem PC by today's standards. However, some of them are amusing and can be retold with subtle editing if necessary.
Family Readaloud Material.......2007-02-11
When I married, Mother gave me our family copy of Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories which had scribbles in it from more than one of my five siblings. I don't remember reading it as a child, to be honest, but it was there. When our first two children were old enough to sit still for a story, my husband sat them in his lap and read them "The Elephant's Child" from this volume. After they squirmed a bit, he assigned acting parts to one or the other of them at various times, and by the time the third son came along they were fighting over acting parts. With voice inflection and movement to accompany the reading, they understood this story more and more, and they began to beg for more story time. He added first one and then another of the stories in this classic. Now our second son and his wife have had their first child, and for his first Christmas as a parent we were delighted to give him him own copy, and the two new parents are continuing the tradition. Bravo, Rudyard Kipling, and bravo, Daddy
Old School doesn't die.......2007-02-10
Still excellent as a reading time project. Both my son and daughter love the stories as much as I did as a child.
Book Description
The life story of the highest decorated soldier of the Wehrmacht. Many photos of Rudel's aircraft., 8 1/2" x 11"
Customer Reviews:
My Favorite Book on Rudel!.......2007-06-09
Printed by Schiffer Publishing, an assurance that it is top quality. There are other books that deal more in Rudel's life, both the good and the questionable post-war, but this one pretty much has everything that all but the most ardent reader would. Enough text to please, and many, many splendid photographs. Most people don't realize that the greatest Lufwaffe pilot didn't fly fighters, but the Ju-87, and man, did he ever fly it! He had no equal. Whatever his post-war activities, I'm not here to judge, but this is a splendid book of perhaps the most accomplished pilot of WWII.
Good Book........2006-07-04
THis is a wonderful book. So many photographs telling his life story. This is a must book fro any person who likes history.
Mislead.......2006-05-05
I purchased this book after hearing about Hans Ulrich Rudel some years ago, I actually thought the book was going to be a full story about the man, but the book has mainly photo's so out five the photo's rate a 5/5 but the biography 2/5
A Great Historical Account Tarnished.......2006-03-13
I found this book to be both facinating and detailed. Rudel's bravery and skill can not be debated. I came away from the book with a better understanding of how and why the Germans fought. Rudel writes effectively that the German fighting man was fighting for his family and country--not the ideals of the Nazi party and derived his courage from his comrades. Towards the end of the war, he claimed to have known nothing of the Nazi attrocities that were committed upon the Jews and many other ethnic groups.
With this in mind, my experience with the book was considerably diminished to learn that Rudel was actually one of the leading Germans who continued to finance fugitive Nazis living in South America after the war. At first denouncing the Nazi attrocities in the book, he went on to financially support and conceal the very people responsible for these attrocities. It leads me to question some of the accounts in the book, but still reccommend it as "must read" for WW2 history buffs.
The autobiography of the greatest soldier.......2005-01-23
Despite his post-war political activities, Rudel still stands out as the most noteworthy soldier of the war, arguably the greatest combat pilot (Marseille was probably the best fighter pilot) in history and possibly the greatest pilot. He was apparently known to some as arrogant and unpleasant. He was the only soldier in the German armed forces to receive the Knight's Cross with golden oakleaves swords and diamonds, and was by far the most successful dive bomber. He destroyed, among other things, 519 tanks, over 1000 other vehicle, 70 landing craft etc. He flew 2530 sorties, was shot down 32 times but never by an enemy aircraft and survived the war less a leg. Many of his incredible exploits are in this book. His story is good reading on the war and is a compelling story. One can only imagine how much his signature would cost had he been killed in action.
