Book Description
In Tesla: Man Out of Time, Margaret Cheney explores the brilliant and prescient mind of one of the twentieth century's greatest scientists and inventors. Called a madman by his enemies, a genius by others, and an enigma by nearly everyone, Nikola Tesla was, without a doubt, a trailblazing inventor who created astonishing, sometimes world-transforming devices that were virtually without theoretical precedent. Tesla not only discovered the rotating magnetic field -- the basis of most alternating-current machinery -- but also introduced us to the fundamentals of robotics, computers, and missile science. Almost supernaturally gifted, unfailingly flamboyant and neurotic, Tesla was troubled by an array of compulsions and phobias and was fond of extravagant, visionary experimentations. He was also a popular man-about-town, admired by men as diverse as Mark Twain and George Westinghouse, and adored by scores of society beauties.
From Tesla's childhood in Yugoslavia to his death in New York in the 1940s, Cheney paints a compelling human portrait and chronicles a lifetime of discoveries that radically altered -- and continue to alter -- the world in which we live. Tesla: Man Out of Time is an in-depth look at the seminal accomplishments of a scientific wizard and a thoughtful examination of the obsessions and eccentricities of the man behind the science.

I agree with Carlberg.......2007-09-15
My title says it all. I just wanted to make sure that there was more balance to this book review.
Great Read .......2007-09-05
This is a great book. I never new much about Tesla and now my whole world has changed.
a work of love.......2007-08-15
Tesla was shoulder to shoulder with Newton, leibniz and Einstein. This one man was responsible for the 20th century. Wireless, as in internet, the radio, Alternating Current, Neon and fluorescent light, energy transmission without wires - this guy seems like he came from another world. Margaret obviously loves Tesla and it is hard to blame her. After the idiot Edison did every horrible thing he could do to destroy Tesla because of Edison's rival Direct Current, including, possibly having Tesla's lab burnt down amongst other devious acts. When Margaret wrote this book, Tesla wasn't wildly popular as he is in
the oughts. There are more coherent books out there on Tesla, but this book is a work of love. Good going Margaret.
very informative.......2007-05-14
a great look into the past of one of, if not the greatest inventors of all time.i learned soo much about tesla i didn't know.you won't believe how many inventions still being used today, and some not yet used were from him.a must have.
On the Shoulders of Giants.......2007-04-21
It is hard to imagine that there is anyone who does not know the names Edison and Einstein. The same should be true of Nikola Tesla, the inventor of the alternating current motor, radio, X-rays, radar and more, yet somehow Tesla's name has slipped into history, largely forgotten. As Margaret Cheney reveals in "Tesla: Man Out of Time", there are several reasons that Tesla's legacy has suffered: he didn't market himself as well as Edison, and he left no wife or children to promote his interests after his death. Although a naturalized American citizen, his ashes were returned to Croatia, the land of his birth, as were also his papers and writings. A world war and a cold war later entombed his memory.
Bizarrely enigmatic yet definitely brilliant, Nikola Tesla is one of the giants of science. He was an under-educated inventor who explored the nature and properties of electricity with a rare vision and trial and error. He was lauded in his time, an on-and-off national hero, but could do little as his patents were raided by other inventors. His life is fascinating and worthy of study. Margaret Cheney took the initiative to pull together all the separate, obscure treatises on his life and weave them together into one complete narrative, but her delivery is dry and her narrative devices stumble. She, for instance, tries to create suspense and expectation by presenting portions of Tesla's life out of sequence, by referencing back to journal entries or setting up cause and effect relationships between present and past events. These devices don't work and leave the reader confused as to why, suddenly, a decade or more has passed in Tesla's life. She also laces the narrative with Tesla's science--the properties of electricity--with no explanation at all. Why were alternating current motors so important? Just what the heck WAS a Tesla coil? What does electricity jumping an air gap do? If you do not already know the answers to these questions, this book will not answer them for you. But even though the narrative is clumsy and dry, "Tesla: Man Out of Time" still stands as a good, single-volume study of Tesla's life.

Do not waste your Money.......2007-03-16
If you want to read a good biography of Nikola Tesla I would recommend you two books: Man out of Time or Nikola Tesla: A spark of genius...
Worst book on Tesla ever!.......2007-01-27
This is by all means the worst book on Nikola Tesla ever! This book portrays Tesla in a way that he never was, a confused lunatic with confused visions and a hard line nationalist attitude. It is no wonder that one reader nicknamed huh concluded that Tesla was stupid and was not able to finish most of his inventions (by the way, this guy sounds like someone from Edison's camp). Tesla was born in an environment of constant clashes between Croats and Serbs, and Ottoman empire (not "Asian barbarians" as this author constantly portrays this great Empire) had nothing to do with Tesla's departure to US. Teslas's father was orthodox priest (a hardliner) who wanted to see his son in the Serbian army (it is the same army who completely escaped into Greece which is unknown example of cowardice in the history and whose king also escaped to England leaving his nation to German mercy, thus Tesla did not see anything great in this "great army"). Tesla refused going to Serbian army and he refused being hard-line nationalist. Tesla once said:" I am proud of my country Croatia and my Serbian nationality". This indicates best that he was not hard-line nationalist (keep in mind that Serbian nationalist even today claim that Croatia is occupied Serbian territory and that it will be wiped off the map). This author actually invented many stories of Tesla's life and even more of them are from second or third hand, totally untrue.
On the technical aspect of this book it is not even worth any comments. Someone who does not know anything about electrical tech must be wondering, what the heck did this guy Tesla invent anyway (hence huh reader again)? I would describe the technical portion of this book as a good joke; even Mr. Bean would do it better. Author just could not sustain a certain hatred for Ottoman empire, which by the way was not much different then eg. Roman empire. Stay away from this book, you will not learn anything from it and could be infected with serious hate.
This book is a zero mark!
The Best on Nikola Tesla.......2006-11-06
Without a doubt the most comprehensive book I have read on Mr. Tesla's life. This edition is meant for that reader who wants very detailed events and accomplishments about the scientist life. Mr. Seifer's research about Nikola Tesla's early life, his early school years, formal education and subsequent acquaintances establishes an overall base on which the reader can reference easily as the book progresses into Mr. Tesla's later years. The author brings to the reader's mind the fact that Nikola Tesla called his "close friends" the most amazing scientists at the turn of the 19th century who themselves became icons in the scientific community. However, Mr.Seifer, illustrates as well the human side of Nikola Tesla thereby keeping in focus the frail aspect of this incredible scientist and those devils his amazing intellect had to fight. I strongly recommend this book to those who wish to literaly know about Nikola Tesla's life. It is truly a manificent tome.
A great biography of Nikola Tesla.......2006-06-15
As you'd expect from a psychology professor, this biography is an extremely good biography of Tesla as a person, and a very good biography of his life and times. As with most scientific prodigies, the biographers are not equal to their subjects' scientific accomplishments, which leads to a certain amount of benign neglect. The book would not suffer under a few more historical mises en scène. All in all though, it is an extremely good book.
The Best Biography of Nikola Tesla.......2005-04-27
I value this book highly because of its even-handedness in its treatment of Nikola Tesla. Virtually every thing stated by Mr. Seifer is documented. After all, this book is the result of his doctoral dissertation.
The subject of the book is treated as a believeable human being. Assuredly, he was a genius; but the author fairly points out when Tesla may have missed the mark. The author neither blindly worships nor blindly condemns Nikola Tesla.
Because this is a biography, it does not go into depth about Nikola Tesla's inventions; Enough information is presented as is necessary to the story.
I am thankful that I have encountered this book because it is based upon truth.

Poor publishing, post-it notes to "correct" printing errors........2007-10-01
The quality of this book from the OUTSIDE looks great. The inside, however, has much to be fixed.
This NEVER should have been released to the public with such errors, and sloppy "fixing" by pasting small pieces of paper saying "this should be on page 41" and the like. Some information is missiong that SHOULD be in the book somewhere. If it is, I cant find it. Not everything is translated, and messy handwritten notes, while interesting, add nothing to the book other than nostalgia because they arent translated.
I'd love to see a book published in a dual-page format that isn't a mess like this one. I'd be willing to pay much more.
I feel I was cheated because of the price of this book.
Worth the money - a true Tesla Tome!.......2007-09-05
I was actually shocked when I received the book. For once someone has taken Tesla's notes, interpreted them, and put forth a true scientific understanding and explanation of his work complete with appropriate mathematical calculations. The book is hard bound and printed on the highest quality of paper and the photographs are simply superb. It is truly a book for the REAL researcher, scientist, and/or Tesla fan!
Excellent work Tesla Museum! This is a must have tome for any true Tesla-phile. It will be the envy of my collection!
While I give this 5 stars..........2007-08-26
This was not the development period of his now secret work. For the ten years prior to Pike's peak Tesla lived in NY and while trying to prove Hertz's claims Tesla accidentally discovered 'radiant energy' in a different form. This (after 10 years) led him to learn how to stimulate energy by an 'electro-static event." Later his focus was on understanding how to capture the energy from the electro-static event and then convert it back into normal electricity. It was in Pike's peak (the period this book covers) that he develops new hardware for the already understood event that he wished to reproduce, just on a massive scale. Pike's peak was the preamble to the famous tower and first working prototype of it.
Rocky Mountain Prophet.......2002-08-07
Tesla's time at Colorado Springs is THE critical period in his life. In his Notebook, we have Tesla in his own words, shifting effortlessly between startlingly original technical suppositions and his characteristic cosmic imaginings. His occasional lapses into reverie, particularly in regards to the fantastic lightning displays in Colorado-both man-made and naturally occurring, hint at the visionary's relationship with electricity on a level far beyond the technical. An inventor by trade, Tesla reveals a passionate fixation with his medium that makes his work personal. In his autobiography, Tesla mentions that as a child he was tortured by continuous lightning-like, prismatic displays whenever he closed his eyes. Later in life, Tesla would raise the shades in his Manhattan office only during lightning storms, at which point he would ask any others to leave, recline on a couch and, according to his trusted secretary, discourse out loud with himself. Perhaps his project was a Proustian one, relishing the real world display of what was once his childhood affliction. In any case, the Colorado Notebooks hint at much and reveal little. Simply, the man was a mystery and he will ever remain so.
Magnifying!.......2000-02-12
This is an excellent resource for those who wish to study about Tesla's experiments. The notes are highly detailed, and clearly show his attempts at transmitting electricity without wires by means of his magnifying transmitter. I also find it a very good insight into the inventor's mind.
For those studying Tesla and his methods, the technical notes are very rewarding, although the casual reader might have some difficulty with the text.

ok i guess.......2007-09-27
Good book, it seems like its written funny, not sure how to explain it though. Alot of uncapitalized i's, was it even proofread?
The Practical Theoretician.......2007-09-10
This is a great book which surfaces Tesla's biography, image of himself and of his internal mental processes. The way Tesla outlines his own internal thought processes and psychology is deeply interesting. I think anyone who aspires to be an inventory would be inspired by reading this book. Tesla's explanation of how he ran experiments in his mind without needing any interfering apparatus is inspiring to those who enjoy theorizing and exploring reality.
autobiography of a genius.......2007-05-12
A very entertaining book that offers a great deal of insight into Tesla's life and inventions.
Scratches the Surface.......2007-04-11
Because the book is so brief it doesn't go into great depth about his inventions or his research methods. I read elsewhere (in the book Miracles in the Storm) that one of his experiments with his coil caused the main generator at Colorado Springs power station to burst into flames. Also, he doesn't mention his theory that the Earth could be "split open like an apple" through critical resonance. I was quite interested in his childhood stuff, but for a book with the title "MY INVENTIONS" it doesn't deal with its subject matter enough for my liking.
So you saw "The Prestige" and are intrigued. Good!.......2007-01-15
So you saw "The Prestige" and are intrigued. Good!
This book is for you, then. In fact, I suggest you read this AUTOBIOGRAPHY before you read Cheney's BIOGRAPHY, getting your information from the horse's mouth.
Considering that English is a second language for Tesla, this book is a smooth read. Having a minister father and being polyglot himself, and being blessed with a great memory for poetry, of course, helped out.
As an autobiography, we get to pick Tesla's mind, and see things as he saw him. He candidly talks about his early childhood visions and eidetic memory, and his ability to conceive of inventions solely by concentration. One biographer suggested that Tesla was the avatar of a Venusian spirit. The funny thing is that this is almost believable.
I was also moved by the trauma that he experienced as a child such as the death of his brother, the negative aspects of his vision, and the bouts of hypervigilance where he could hear a watch ticking several rooms away. A friend of mine has had this same affliction, and I pity them both.
My favorite chapter is the first one, where he explains his philosophy of invention:
"The progressive development of man is vitally dependent on invention. It is the most important product of his creative brain. Its ultimate purpose is the complete mastery of mind over the material world, the harnessing of the forces of nature to human needs. This is the difficult task of the inventor who is often misunderstood and unrewarded. But he finds ample compensation in the pleasing exercises of his powers and in the knowledge of being one of that exceptionally privileged class without whom the race would have long ago perished in the bitter struggle against pitiless elements."
PS--you can find a pdf of this book online. But having it bound makes it easier to read.
Book Description
SENSATIONAL DATA OBTAINED FROM THE INVENTOR'S MOST PRIVATE PAPERS AND KEPT UNDER WRAPS BY THE MILITARY AND BIG BUSINESS CONCERNS
This book is for all those who feel that the military industrial complex is attempting to control our lives, our financial affairs and our belief structure. The evidence is overwhelming!Discredited in his time, Nikola Tesla was made out by business competitors and the government to be nothing more than a kook. Nonetheless, the same conspirators later duplicated -- and possibly even stole -- many of Tesla's most fabulous inventions which could soon change the course of history as well as our lives!
EXPOSED. . . * Reverse Gravity. * Free Energy. * Contact With Hidden Dimensions. * Mysterious Signals From Space. * Earth Changes. * Freak Weather. * Electric Death Rays. * UFOS. * Partical Beam Weapons.
Put into Top-Secret use by agents of the New World Order and the global political monetary elite, many of Tesla most powerful and potentially dangerous scientific discoveries are being turned against ordinary citizens in programs of behavior and physical modification. This is being done to influence our critical thinking and belief patterns to make us more susceptible to the mental commands of the Secret Government. One of the most recognizable of these sinister programs is the seeding of clouds with mind and body altering chemicals. These mysterious chemtrails (as they are called) have been widely seen and photographed as they cris-cross the sky in bewildering patterns. Tesla fought all his life against the "Evil Empire" which is emerging as a fire breathing dragon as we get pushed head first into the new millennium.

a bit quirky but interesting.......2007-05-18
If you are fascinated by Tesla you can get over the quirks, and once you do, there is a lot of fascinating informaion in this book. What quirks? One, the author has it out for Thomas Eddison getting credit as the father of electricy. It is true that Tesla's AC clearly makes him the man behind every electrical outlet in the world, but the author needs to relax a bit. Two, Tesla had quite a 'wild side' and you have to be prepared to read some pretty far out stuff. With that in mind, I strongly recommend that anyone trying to piece together the 'mostly lost' history of this amazing scientist read this book. Tesla was too far ahead of his time. His desire to provide energy for free was undesirable to the big wigs who backed him and that, in the end, was his undoing. Now, however, his ideas and concepts are begining to come of age. Anyone who believes certain technologies have been repressed for oil company profits, that secret plans regarding global climate change need to become declassified, and that gravity, time and energy are not fully understood will be very glad they have this book. Just be prepared for an 'other than conventional' read. One last note; some people search in vain for something called Alternative 3. This book contains some information on that hard to find topic.
A Must-Read for Scientific Scholars of Nikola Tesla.......2007-01-15
I would use this as an addendum to your Tesla collection.Tesla's dusty trunk was discovered in a modest N.Y.C.hotel's attic. The forgotten collateral was auctioned off as 'old stories of science fiction'.The unknowing buyer paid a scant sum for the wooden trunk and its literary contents.Well, you have to read the rest of the interesting story. If your not a fan of Tesla, then you probably wouldn't appreciate this book.If your a member of the Mensa crowd, then read this book!
And The Legend Lives On.......2006-11-28
Nikola Tesla was an inventor and a pioneer in the early days of the commercial development of electricity. That alone should be enough to ensure his place in the history books, but there is more to the story than just that. Tesla is also revered by some as a saint and prophet who began laying the groundwork for a future technological Garden of Eden. He is nowadays credited with the breakthrough discoveries that led to radio, television, AC electricity, fluorescent and neon lighting, robotics, x-rays, radar and microwaves, just to name a few.
But like many the lonely genius that went before him, Tesla never received the dignity or the financial payback that he had earned. He passed away in 1943, in poverty and relative obscurity. As he moved from hotel to hotel, saying one step ahead of his debts, he often left behind whole suitcases full of notes and diagrams for unfinished inventions. Legend has it that after he died, the federal government stepped in and confiscated the material, believing it contained designs for new weapons devices and therefore was relevant to national security.
But apparently a few things slipped through the fingers of the government. At a 1976 auction in Newark, New Jersey, a collector named Dale Alfrey bought four boxes of papers for around $25. Alfrey at first thought he had purchased the notes of a science-fiction writer and had no idea of the importance of what the boxes contained.
Which is where the story told in "The Lost Journals of Nikola Tesla" really begins. Author Tim Swartz writes that these journals revealed that in 1889, while in Colorado Springs, Tesla intercepted communications from extraterrestrial beings who were secretly controlling mankind. These creatures were slowly preparing humans for eventual conquest and domination.
At this point, as they say, the plot begins to thicken.
Swartz goes on to recount the spine-tingling chronology of Tesla's battle with aliens he believed to be an enemy race, all set against a backdrop of industrial espionage and governmental secrecy that would indeed make for a crackerjack science-fiction tale were it not for the fact that the events are alleged to be completely real.
Tesla later went public with his claim that he was receiving extraterrestrial voice transmissions and was subjected to the usual humiliating ridicule that greets UFO witnesses today when they try to speak openly of their experiences. But he remained firm in his conviction that the voices were genuine and posed a terrifying threat to life on Earth as we know it.
In "The Lost Journals of Nikola Tesla," Swartz has coupled a fascinating, page-turner of a storyline with an impressive amount of thorough research into the historical and technical details of the great inventor's work. While the jury is still out as to whether Tesla was truly a genius-visionary or a mere crackpot, Swartz travels a respectable distance toward fitting the pieces of Tesla's often puzzling life into a satisfying and credible whole.

I would not buy this book.......2003-09-29
If you are looking for new material about Tesla, do not buy this book. The only thing that is told about these so called lost journals is that they are lost (stolen by MIBs, of course)! The rest of the book is a compendium of conspiracy theories using Tesla's name as a come on for you to keep reading. After a few pages, it gets very boring. In summary, no new material here, just Tesla's name used to get you to read the authors' conspiracy theories.
Book Description
Understanding and using the science of Sympathetic Vibration. One hundred years ago, scientist/inventor/philosopher John Keely built various devices that were able to overcome gravity, tunnel through rock using a hand-held device, use acoustics to power engines, and create superconductivity by employing wires made of gold, silver and platinum. Almost lost, this book finally compiles ten years of research by the editor/author that explains the technology used. Understandable to the layman and useful to the most advanced researcher.

Not very informative book.......2007-04-10
I purchased this book because I was left with the impression that Tesla had had a significant contribution. Well, this is not the case.
In general, I am interested in books that go beyond the currently accepted by the scientific community concepts. However this book is well below my expectations. Many of the articles have been written by people who didn't have a solid technical background. Keely may have discovered important nature laws but I couldn't get to appreciate his work based on this book.
a girl who is ubsest with alchemy........2005-07-12
i have never read the book because im new and ever since I found out about alchemy/alchemist I've been reading everything
about them/about it.I'm am really interested in readying u book , it's just I dont know how to get it im too young to order it from the internet im 12 years old.I love alchemy/philosephy.Are u a alchemist cause if you are i want to be tought alchemy from u I really want to learn alchemy bad ,I want to make a transmutation circle work.I dont do any alchemy cause i dont have the supplies. One thing is I dont know how to use a transmutation circle.I really want to learn but i dont have the books, supplies, circles, etc.all I know is that I love alchemy and I will do anything to know how to do alchemy,so I can travel the world searching for some state alchemy buildings(if those still exist).this shows u how much I love alchemy ,I NEED YOUR HELP WITH ALCHEMY AND IT'S RULES!!!!!!
Great Beginnings.......2004-11-21
I have read and reread this book a number of times, mostly to understand the terms used by Keely. It is unfortunate that you may get distracted by the use of his own terms, don't. It is a must for the student who wants to advance of our sciences to the next level! Also read Viktor Schaubergers work! taken together, they will give you a truely remarkable insight into the nature of our universe.
Excellent. Great. Amazing. Favorite........2003-09-12
This book "Universal Laws Never Before Revealed"
along with his other book Physics of Love, is
at the top of my favorite book reading list. Both
of these two books (including this one here) is
sooooo powerful and so great, that words can't
describe the greatness enough. This is among the
greatest books I have read so far, and I have read
hundreds of books. To appreciate the quality and
great content of this book would be to read it
and see for yourself. I am very thankful to have
found and read this book. This book changed my
life totally for the better.
This book led me to another great book.......2002-11-03
Throughout this book I found references and footnotes to Keely and His Discoveries by Clara Bloomfield-Moore - the only book by a contemporary who was a close personal friend and financial supporter of Keely. Originally published in the late 1800s, her book - ISBN 1589636139 - is back in print and makes a wonderful companion to this book.

Nicely condensed version of Tesla's invention.......2007-09-05
This 34 page "pamphlet" does an good job of an overview of Tesla and his ideas. It shows the progression of his ideas and also helps the reader to better understand and debunk all the junk science now being espoused concerning Tesla's theories and inventions.
very old patents - can be interesting.......2006-11-10
the book is an interesting collection - perhaps more valuable for evaluating spoof patents - and arcane ideas than for building any of these devices. there is probably a reason most of this has not been published. The book succeeds in vividly portraying the era after the civil war - post-modern science - and the ideas the permiated culture.
Anyone reading this is bound to have a great appreciation for Tesla - and a better understanding of the times he lived in.
Nothing new here.......2005-12-27
In reading this, I found it to be a rehash of information freely available on the Internet. I had hoped for more.
It feels like I paid to have someone gather and print it out for me.
Book Description
In 1935, Nikola Tesla revealed that an earthquake in the region of his New York laboratory in 1898 was the result of a machine he had been experimenting with. This book presents his technology based on sonic vibrations. Now for the first time the secrets of the Tesla Oscillator are available to both the layman and advanced researcher.

A place to start.......2006-10-12
The book has loads of theory. The plans for an oscillator are fair and will give you a place to start. A mention is made that it resembles a modern control solenoid, agreed, but perhaps should include salvaging parts from other such items to build up one. Im sure it could be done, and once again this book gives a start. In any case it does show how to use a commercially available air vortex unit for heat and cooling, in conjunction with the oscillating device.
Attention all mechanical engineers?!.......2005-11-22
Well...I have the book, I'm an aerospace engineer, I've made a living over the past several years reverse-engineering the Tesla Turbine and Pump, and, I must say - I personally like this book.
The mechanical drawings are well worth the measly price of the book, alone. Drawing from lack of true patent info regarding the amazing "Earth Quake Machine" (which we KNOW Tesla did, in fact, invent), the authors do a very nice job at interpretation. Now...I would believe if someone took these drawings and input the CAD info, we could go from there and find out how accurate they are. A true working mechanical oscillator would quite literally "shake" things up a bit.
Anyway...again, I did like this book. Take it for what it is - an attempt to explain an invention of probably one of the greatest inventors of all time - Nikola Tesla...Tesla's mechanical oscillator.
Earthquake machine.......2005-06-24
I was hoping that this book would shed some light on the concept of creating artificial earthquakes. Instead, it was loaded with ideas and inventions that had NOTHING to do with Tesla's Earthquake machine. There is one little chapter, and they should seriously change the name of the book.
Where is the real information?.......2000-07-28
Upon discovering there was actually a book on this subject, Tesla's famous earthquake machine; I was amazed. Tesla is my favorite inventor and I have been interested in building his device for years. But I was sadly disappointed when I read this book. The stories and information are repeated multiple times throughout the book, the instructions are only really a set of diagrams, and overall - this book was a complete letdown. Hopefully someone will someday redeem this poor account for Tesla's technology.
Some good info but misleading title........1999-02-03
The first part of the book covers Tesla's mechanical oscillator (principle of operation, etc.). Later, a series of blueprints are presented to detail the construction of a small oscillator. A knowledgable person with access to machining equipment should be able to construct one with the information provided. It will not, however, guide you through the proccess! It simply presents the "bare bones" info. After that, the book strays from its title. There is some rather strange talk about alternative religion and some Zen philosophy stuff. Then, were shown text and construction info for some other neat devices (heat pump, motors, etc.). Anyone who enjoys science or wants to build an "Earthquake Machine" will probably be satisfied with the content. Be prepared for some of the off topic discussion though.

they should've hired a graphic designer!.......2003-12-19
Nothing to complain about as far as the contents; it's an interesting hodge-podge of articles by or about Tesla. What I didn't like about the book was the bizzare typesetting and the poor reproduction quality of the photos. The photos are noticeably pixelated and low resolution; it almost looks like the photos were badly scanned jpegs taken off a website! Over half the book is set in ALL CAPS using a monotype font. Weird.
SADLY LACKING.......2001-03-09
Lately, I have been trying to read everything I can on Tesla. I was intrigued by a special on one of the television networks. I had heard of Tesla before but didnt realize that he had accomplished so much in his life, or that he was fascinated with the signals he claimed to be receiving from outer space (possibly the planet Mars he thought). For this reason, you can imagine my disappointment on trying to gain any new knowledge from the pages of this tome. There is absolutely nothing new here. Its not even put together in a presentable format.Oh well, maybe others will get into this work. I guess I just could not!
A disappointing book on Tesla.......2001-02-28
This is not a very good book. It is simply a reprint of Tesla's early writings with some added comments and packaged to look like a new book. If you are interested in the subject, look for The Lost Journals of Nikola Tesla, which is a much better book with a lot of good info.
A "must" for Tesla enthusiasts and students........2001-01-23
In The Tesla Papers, David Childress has compiled the writings of Nikola Tesla into a comprehensive, informative, and down right fascinating volume of material that provides background and insight into Tesla's amazing inventions. Divided into seven parts the reader is treated to Tesla: Humanitarian; The Problem of Increasing Human Energy; The Wireless Transmission of Power; Tesla's Electric Car; The Tesla Papers; Tesla's FBI Files; The Marconi-Tesla Trial Transcripts. The Tesla Papers is enhanced with some of the papers on Tesla's thoughts and work regarding wireless power, anti-gravity, robotics, free energy, advanced solar power system, patents, and material collected on Tesla at the Colorado Springs Tesla Symposium. The Tesla Papers is a "must" for all Nikola Tesla enthusiasts, as well as students of alternative science, iconoclastic technology, and suppressed history.
Product Description
A lecture delivered before the Institution of Electrical Engineers, February 1892, in London. Complete with illustrations.
From the introduction:
A short time ago I had the honor to bring before our American Institute of Electrical Engineers some results then arrived at by me in a novel line of work. I need not assure you that the many evidences which I have received that English scientific men and engineers were interested in this work have been for me a great reward and encouragement. I will not dwell upon the experiments already described, except with the view of completing, or more clearly expressing, some ideas advanced by me before, and also with the view of rendering the study here presented self-contained, and my remarks on the subject of this evening's lecture consistent.
This investigation, then, it goes without saying, deals with alternating currents, and, to be more precise, with alternating currents of high potential and high frequency. Just in how much a very high frequency is essential for the production of the results presented is a question which, even with my present experience, would embarrass me to answer. Some of the experiments may be performed with low frequencies; but very high frequencies are desirable, not only on account of the many effects secured by their use, but also as a convenient means of obtaining, in the induction apparatus employed, the high potentials, which in their turn are necessary to the demonstration of most of the experiments here contemplated.

Tesla reprinted.......2007-09-05
This book is simply a collection of Tesla's lectures. It is extremely long. I'm sure things would be different if Tesla was still here to give these lectures in person. It is not a fast read.
It does allow elaboration of some of Tesla's ideas, but I felt it was an injustice that this edition didn't attempt to clarify some of Tesla's ideas to make them more easily understandable.
Too many publishers are simply reprinting his notes without really contributing to a better understanding of his ideas and principles. This edition contributes nothing to a better understanding of then man outside of his own words.
Tesla experiments described in Tesla's own words.......2003-08-03
Here is an AUTHENTIC source of Tesla's work. It is a reprint of the original edition. "Experiments with Alternate Currents of High Potential and High Frequency" which is a lecture Tesla presented at the Institution Of Electrical Engineers, London. Included with this lecture is an appendix on the "Transmission of Electric Energy Without Wires" by Nikola Tesla. If you want to understand how Tesla thought & worked; this book will allow you to gain real insight into his mind. The future he envisioned can largely be seen in our everyday lives. But this was over a hundred years ago!
Nikola Tesla is a craftsman with an intimate relationship of his work and materials. He innately grasps the nature of electricity. Dubbed the "Electric Magician" by the public, he amazed even engineers & scientists of his day. Henry Ford & Thomas Edison did their best to see that Tesla was forgotten. Neither the Ford Foundation nor the Smithsonian can silence history. Ford & Edison were great entrepreneurs. Tesla was a true genius and humanitarian! This book stands as a testament to his brilliance.
