Book Description

Succubus (n.) An alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men. Pathetic (adj.) A succubus with great shoes and no social life. See: Georgina Kincaid.

When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical?

But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic. Her boss is a middle-management demon with a thing for John Cusack movies. Her immortal best friends haven't stopped teasing her about the time she shape-shifted into the Demon Goddess getup complete with whip and wings. And she can't have a decent date without sucking away part of the guy's life. At least there's her day job at a local bookstore--free books; all the white chocolate mochas she can drink; and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can't.

But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle's demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won't help because Georgina's about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny...

"What an incredible debut novel! Succubus Blues is exciting, witty, sexy, intriguing and had me captivated from the first page." --Cheyenne McCray, author of Seduced by Magic

4 out of 5 stars Four and a Half Stars.......2007-09-16

Georgina Kincaid is a succubus, living in Seattle, working by day in a bookstore whilst at the same time trying to squeeze in her otherworldly duties. However, there are more deadly things at play in Seattle as Georgina is about to discover.

Sometimes you read the first page of a book and you just know you're in for a wonderful read. Succubus Blues takes us into the life of the working demon and makes it real. It shows how the road to hell can be paved with good intentions, and illustrates how the concepts of good and evil are ambiguous.

As it's written in the first person we are immediately drawn into Georgina's world; which is so like our own. She has her friends (Hugh the imp, Cody her vampire dancing partner) and her enemies, and she has to please her boss - Jerome the archdemon.

Georgina is a witty and self-deprecating protagonist and as we get to know her through the course of the story we become aware of her sadness as well. She is a succubus with all that entails, and although there are romantic elements to this story, I would classify it as urban fantasy rather than romance. The life of the succubus is not glamorised, and although there are sexual situations, the sex scenes when they take place are not gratuitous. Indeed given the subject matter you may have expected more.

There is a lack of strong female secondary characters but given Georgina's nature perhaps this is not surprising. And the male characters more than make up for this - Seth, the shy, reserved writer, who Georgina not so secretly hero-worships; Hugh, Peter and Cody - her friends; and the surprising double act of Jerome (the local archdemon) and Carter (the angel) who, whenever they appear, steal the scene. You really feel you're gaining an insight into the lives of these `evil' immortals, and at the end of the story it's hard to say whether any of them are intrinsically evil or good - they are all just trying to do the best they can.

5 out of 5 stars Like Cool Ranch Doritos.......2007-09-12

Push off all the books stacked on your nightstand and make a nice space for Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. Don't worry, the space won't be occupied long. This is one of those books like a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. All of a sudden you look down and realize that you just finished off the whole dang thing in one sitting.

Georgina Kincaid sold her soul a millenia ago to spare her family. Now she's an immortal succubus and keeps her youthful glow by screwing men. The pure upright and moral souls give her a bigger fix. Although her mission is to rack up more souls for Hell, she's a likeable gal. Without giving away the whole delcious story, I'll just throw in these other factors: a demon boss who looks like John Cussak, one of God's own angels, and Georgina's favorite author who turns out to be an introverted geek...yet somehow freakin steaming hot.

Now, you'd think with a succubus as a main character, the story would be porn ala Laurel K. Hamilton. Surprisingly, there's only one significant sex scene (and significant it is!). Unlike Hamilton, Mead has whipped up a fresh new mythology based on old world legends, with likeable characters that have serious room to grow. Good news is that this is book one in a series. Book two, Succubus on Top is due out in December.

Her contemporary fantasy writing style is like Kim Harrison, Rachel Caine, Carrie Vaughn and Patricia Briggs. Good company, I'm tellin ya!

2 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this one...........2007-09-09

:::::SPOILIER ALERT:::::::

You know, after reading the first chapter, I was really looking forward to this one. It seemed witty and interesting (the life of a succubus)because I've always liked seeing the story from the other side. I like the grey area. It seems more true to real life. So that said, why the low rating?

Well, first of all, it really dragged along the first 100 pages. I mean really dragged on. Yes, I know it was meant to show Gorgina's life as ordinary, not so different from humans (asst. manager job at bookstore)and all the mundane daily riturals, well except for the succubus part. From walking to work, working at the cafe, playing with her cat, obsessing over an auther etc. But, I felt some of it could have be shortened to move the story along. It just wasn't engaging enough. I mean why else do you pick up a book.

Second, Georgina seemed pretty clueless about her own world. I mean she really knew nothing about fallen angels, how the other creatures of the night could be killed...including herself. For someone as old as her, you would think she'd have plenty of time to ponder and find out answers. I mean,I knew more than her. Yes, I know this is fantasy, but it has to be made in a way thats believable for the reader.

::::::Spoiler Alert::::::::::::

Thirdly, I really stopped sympathizing for her about a third of the way through. Okay, yes she's a succubus but really that part was okay with me. But, she lolled back and forth with Seth and Roman. So torn but engulfed in either or depending on who was with her at the moment. That I could bare with, since it was an act at character growth (feeling for these men, but torn with being a succubus)but man did she drag them through the dirt. But the real killer for me was when she finally found out who the "bad guy" so to speak was, and after soul searching :) she was going to run away with him, if he chose to back down. After he pours his heart out to her, confesses everthing about his beaten life on the lamb, and decides to back down...what does she do...hang him out to dry. Then when the other boyfriend comes around (just when things start to get ugly because of her betrayal), she decides, well its actually this one I love not the other one (who's being destroyed as we speak). And she has no second thought (regret or pity) about the other, well except the fear for her own life.
It really put a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not one of those who always looks for a happy ending. But, when it come to the main character of a series, you have to at least like her or you know sympathize with her, to be interested in seeing her life unfold.

Oh well, I know this wasn't the nicest review and I'm sorry about that but, I couldn't help commenting when I'd been so terribly disappointed with it.

I know authors can take down comments if they feel its unfair. And I honestly don't feel its unfair, as well as others I've talked too. So, we shall see if she reads this....and if its gone....we'll know she deleted it.

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly delightful.......2007-09-05

It's hard to like a succubus, but Mead makes her character very enticing with Kincaid's internal conflicts. The author blends various types of fantasy with not only a compelling storyline but also with an overarching conflict that obviously will continue with sequels. Mead deftly twists her plot so readers will be carried along without intuiting the ending. I'm excited the sequel will be coming in Dec. '08. This is definitely a series to watch with its appealing characters.

5 out of 5 stars Very Surprised.......2007-08-21

I resisted reading this book for quite awhile. From the cover and the title, I thought it would be filled with a lot of gratuitous sex and very little plot. I was wrong. This book was GOOD. The characters were realistic and compelling, and I can't wait until the next book comes out.

Considering how hard people work for the majority of their lives with an eye towards retiring, it's surprising to find that many give little thought to actually funding their retirement. In You've Earned It, Don't Lose It: Mistakes You Can't Afford to Make When You Retire, financial advisor Suze Orman addresses this sad fact and "goes beyond the usual financial primer to describe how to safeguard your financial future." A specialist in retirement issues and a Certified Financial Planner, Orman knows her stuff, and she shares it in a straightforward manner that's especially helpful for those new to navigating the often-confusing course of retirement planning. Beginning with an overview of investment advice and what to look for in an investment counselor, Orman moves on to eight chapters filled with financial planning wisdom--offering focused discussions of trusts vs. wills, long-term care insurance, early retirement, durable power of attorney, estate taxes and probate costs, minimizing your expenses/maximizing your income, joint and survivor benefits, and a successful retirement. Also included are resource lists, handy quick tips, informative graphs, and personal accounts, making this an invaluable tool in planning for one of the most important turning points in your life.

This was indeed the best book I have read on retirement planning and things you should and should not do to protect retirement earnings. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone to read well before retirement.

5 out of 5 stars Suze Makes It EZ.......2006-06-07

I first read Suze Orman's philosophies on taking charge of your finances in 1999 and she struck enough of a chord in me that I am now in a different place wrt my money than I was then.

And, I'm closer to retirement and possibly an early one (51), if I can afford it. In any case, I need to evaluate all my options and once again, she helped me get there quickly (Chapter 6 Early Retirement).

She's also convinced me that a Trust is the way to go, so that's the next step. I also made a multi tab spreadsheet of all the tables she references throughout and now have a pretty good snapshot of my net worth.

Her discussions are very numbers-based, but the personal anecdotes woven throughout each chapter really drove the messages and kept it from being too dry.

Her earlier books emphasize Long Term Care insurance, as does this one. I am not a big believer in lots of insurance, but that's one of the expense items we have to keep in.

Practical, no-nonsense, must-read financial advice...couldn't put it down once I started.

4 out of 5 stars I wish I had a book like this when I was younger.......2006-03-24

Suze writes in a very clear, succint style just as if she was having a conversation with you. She gives good common sense advice from her very extensive knowledge of finance. Reading this book would definitely give someone starting to plan for their retirement advice I wish I had gotten rather than learning from the school of hard knocks. Definitely a good reference book to re-read over.

I've gotten several beer brewing books from Amazon and decided to get this book on Mead because I like honey and wanted to learn something about making mead with it. I'd always heard about mead and was curious about it but if you're expecting a lot of recipes this book probably isn't for you.
Mr. Schramm puts out a lot of information on the history, styles of meads, the science and ingredients. I'm not sure if it has enough information to go out and brew the stuff (I'm still reading the book and have never tried to brew anything)if you're a complete novice but it might do it. When Mr. Schramm titled the book complete he meant just that, only 2 or 3 recipes in the first 158 pages- the rest of it covering anything else you'd need or want to know (there is a 9 page recipe section late in the book).
I liked the section on honey and other suppliers, 13 pages long and 9 of them cover mail order honey suppliers, the rest are for spices and other equipment.
I may never get around to making Mead but if I do I'll be glad I've got this book.

5 out of 5 stars Title is Accurate.......2005-11-18

I have been been making homemade fruit wines for several years. I have read many books on wine making, and beer brewing. Yet in this mead book, I learned new things about wine making and the process I had not come across before. The book is holistic in its approach to understanding the brewing process, specifically with mead.

What is especially helpful is the author's command of the scientific understandings, that he relates in layman's terms. Portions read like an episode of "Good Eats" on the Food Network. This is a good thing.

As to the specifics of mead, I cannot imagine a more thorough book. To the qualities of varietal honies, to the methods for determining balance in adding fruits, spices, or grains, no stone is left unturned. Yet the book does not read like a textbook, I enjoyed it as a read, not just a reference.

5 out of 5 stars A nuts-and-bolts approach to writing English.......2000-05-12

If the current edition of this book is like the second edition I've used for many years, it is a shop manual for English composition. Each part of a sentence is defined and illustrated. Most important, all types of sentences are diagrammed (at least I hope that feature survives in this edition). And there may be no better way to understand how a verbal construction works or doesn't work than to take it apart and put each piece in its place in a diagram. Diagramming is also a great tool to use in arguing various points of construction. The book also includes general rules and approaches to building complete manuscripts. And the table of contents and index get you quickly to what you want to know. All in all, an excellent preparation for writing and an equally good reference.

5 out of 5 stars A very good guide and practice book for ESL students.......1999-01-31

It has consice explanations and practical exercises. Especially for students who want to produce better written output, this book is the best choice. One thing I prefer is that the running head of each page should have full words (not abbreviations)and chapter number and title. It will make it easier to consult.

Book Description

Rarely do science and literature come together in the same book.  When they do -- as in Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, for example -- they become classics, quoted and studied by scholars and the general public alike.

Margaret Mead accomplished this remarkable feat not once but several times, beginning with Coming of Age in Samoa.   It details her historic journey to American Samoa, taken where she was just twenty-three, where she did her first fieldwork.  Here, for the first time, she presented to the public the idea that the individual experience of developmental stages could be shaped by cultural demands and expectations.  Adolescence, she wrote, might be more or less stormy, and sexual development more or less problematic in different cultures.  The "civilized" world, she taught us had much to learn from the "primitive."  Now this groundbreaking, beautifully written work as been reissued for the centennial of her birth, featuring introductions by Mary Pipher and by Mead's daughter, Mary Catherine Bateson.

Please do not buy this book. It is a lie about Samoans. How could she have learned to speak well enough to comunicate with Samoans in 5 months.

The book is all a lie!

1 out of 5 stars Somwhere between Freeman's vitriol and an ameteur' s efforts.......2007-04-19

I was the Medical Director of American Samoa a few years after Mead's six
month in Ta'u, a village in the Manu'a group and spent over two years there. On my trips to Manu'a I found and talked to Chief Tufele and those Mead worked with. With two years study of Hawaiian I was able to converse with them quite easily. Mead studied Samoan for only six weeks in Pago Pago.
There are many errors and self-projections in the work of a 23-year old girl fresh out of college on her first field trip, but not enough to incur
Freeman's wrath. About half of his criticisms are not true.

3 out of 5 stars Let's not be hasty.......2006-09-13

In answer to "Mead's Samoa hoax has been exposed" (see below), which is based largely upon Derek Freeman's work.

Derek Freeman's work has also engendered debate, given its own problems. Both methodology and (inevitably) conclusions have been shown to be suspect. For instance: some of Mead's subjects survived long enough into old age to be questioned by Freeman, whereupon they stated that they lied to Mead regarding their past behavior. With what certainty can it be presumed that they are telling the truth now?

But I shan't go on. Suffice it to say that it is of little use to base a critique of one book (Mead's) based upon another of equally unsound and uncertain scholarship (Freeman's). It is simply dishonest of the writer of that review to attempt to discredit Mead by quoting Freeman, while (conveniently) omitting to mention that Freeman's work is not accepted either.

Without being able to either substantiate Mead or debunk her, her book remains fascinating for its own sake, more than for its admittedly tenuous conclusions, and is interesting not least for the insight that it gives into the nature of its author.

1 out of 5 stars Mead's Samoa hoax has been exposed.......2006-02-23

In the unpaginated `Preface [to the] 1973 Edition', Margaret Mead stresses that her description of Samoan moeurs should be read as applying to conditions at the time of her research. She finds it needful to `shout' that advice because during her 1971 brief visit to Samoa, `young critics even asked me when am I going to revise this book and look unbelieving and angry when I say that to revise it is impossible'.

This is a reference to an abrasive session with students who told her that her description of fa'aSamoa (Samoan custom) was false and insulting. They were miffed by her styling Samoans `primitives' and her pronouncement that since anthropologists enjoy an `immense superiority', they can `master the fundamental structure' [of primitive society] . . . `in a few months' (p. 8). In keeping with this arrogance, Samoans attending university were told by their instructors that their experience of fa'aSamoa was not valid evidence against Mead's scientific study. And, as we've just seen, Mead refused to revise her book even when she knew that it is mistaken in many particulars.

For Samoans this patronizing manner was the familiar voice of the papalagi (the colonial power). Mead's hosts on her field trip, aware that she enjoyed the protection of the Pacific Fleet admiral and Boss of American Samoa, went to great lengths to provide reliable information. When they learned of what they call her luma fai tele (`shameless defamaton'), they could not comprehend how she could have betrayed their hospitality. They were also aggrieved that she deceived them about her marital status. For she accepted the title taupou (ceremonial virgin) although as a married woman she was ineligible. Then she disgraced the title by carrying on with Aviata, a young man regarded as a rake.

While Samoans long knew the mendacity of this book, its correction in academic circles commenced only with the 1983 publication of Derek Freeman's Margaret Mead and Samoa: The Making and Unmaking of an Anthropological Myth (Harvard University Press). That event shook anthropology to its boots. Such was Mead's prestige that the popular mind identified her with anthropology. If her credibility was seriously questioned in respect to the most widely believed anthropological study ever published, the credibility of the profession was at risk. That is why Freeman was attacked with great ferocity, even by those who agreed with his critique.

Freeman's book initiated a reappraisal of Coming of Age in Samoa. Martin Orans and Freeman have recently published studies of her Samoa investigations based on her field notes. They confirm that Mead's account of Samoan sexual moeurs is a travesty. But they go beyond that. Mead recorded the accounts given by her informants, but by ignoring key facts, twisting others, and inventing still others, she contrived to represent Samoa as a free love duck pond. She also misrepresented the research she carried out. She was funded to conduct a study of adolescent girls; and she states that she spent `six months accumulating an intimate and detailed knowledge of all adolescent girls in the community'. Her field notes tell otherwise. She devoted her time to assembling ethnography; the funded study never got off the ground. She states that she conducted `all' her interviews with these girls in the Samoan language (`I spoke their language and ate their food'). Orans found however that her information on adolescent girls came from `English-speaking informants using English to communicate'. He notes that `no conversations in Samoan are recorded in any of the field materials'. This is consistent with Freeman's finding that the study of adolescent girls was not conducted at all.

Mead built her picture of free love by tossing off unsupported one-liners. The `inept lover is a laughing stock'. There are `no neurotic pictures, no frigidity' in Samoa. Masturbation `is a universal habit'. Homosexual activity is `very prevalent' and is regarded as `simply play'. `[Samoan] girls' minds were perplexed by no conflicts . . . [to have as] many lovers as possible and then to marry . . . these were uniform and satisfying ambitions'. The field materials do not show that Mead collected any evidence whatever about masturbation, homosexuality, or incidence of neuroticism and frigidity. She had but one informant about intimate sexual moeurs--an eighteen year old school teacher. In 1981 that person told Freeman that he had an affair with Margaret. Thus Samoa's alleged free love amounts to no more than a loose wife's gullibility to the pillow talk of her teenage lover. Such is the `science' that made this book famous.

Research on Mead's field notes clarifies a feature of this book that has puzzled many readers. It is the drastic and repeated inconsistency between Mead's descriptions of Samoan vigilance of virginity and punishments of straying girls, and the attribution of a casual attitude toward sexuality. What we now can see is that Mead patched her free love pillow talk into descriptions given to her by her adult informants.

How is that anthropologists for so long were taken in by a popular book? One part of the answer is that many weren't taken in. The controversy brought to light numerous statements to this effect. Thus Weston LaBarre wrote: "When I was a graduate student in anthropology at Yale in the late '30's, Mead's Sex and Temperament came out. Puzzled that even a big island like New Guinea should have had three tribes waiting to be discovered to prove her point about the non-biological nature of gender, I went to Edward Sapir with my puzzlement. He said laconically, `She's a pathological liar'. I was startled as much by what he said, as by the fact that an eminent anthropologist and chairman of a department should say this to a mere graduate student. But over the years, I have come to believe that this is literally the case." The next round in the evaluation of Mead's anthropology, we may hope, will collect and critically assess this largely unpublished expert opinion.

4 out of 5 stars read it for yourself.......2005-12-28

Famous books in any academic discipline draw a lot of attention (thus making them famous). When negative, most such attention arises from personal jealously about the success of others, and given that Mead is a woman, she draws additional scorn from male academics (and their female supplicants). As a result, many myths develop and circulate around academic departments, and even worse, people rely on textbook (mis)representations in place of their own reading. I encourage anyone with serious interest in traditional Samoa and/or anthropology to read this book for themselves, consider Mead's evidence and analysis, and develop your own assessment. Clearly, most of the reviewers here have not read the book. By the way, I give the book four stars because it does have flaws, but read it and decide for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book -- Short, Sweet, Practical.......2006-12-10

I bought my copy on the street, with the cover ripped off of it, for five bucks. By far the best guitar book I've ever seen. Invaluable as a reference tool, I would say.

Besides the writing itself, the book is designed, formatted, laid out really well. Even down to font and the line spacing, this book could not be easier to read or to use. At a total of 117 pages, it's the perfect size, too.

David Mead gives you very practical, immediately useful information about the guitar. He figures that the best way to impart this information to you is on a need-to-know basis, and he sticks to that policy pretty strictly. It's an excellent, very user-friendly approach, and you appreciate his brevity and conciseness.

5 out of 5 stars Beginner book.......2006-02-06

This is an excellent book, my only problem with it is nowhere in the name does it say beginner, this book will teach you your major and minor scales, and all your pentatonic, hammers, pulls, vibrato, slides, and bends, so if you don't know that stuff you need to. Great excercises, how to read tab, chords all that good stuff you already know if you can play. I would'nt call these things tips so much as necessity, I had the impression from the title that it would teach me all these neat tips, and secrets but that's not the case.

5 out of 5 stars Best Guitar Book I've Found.......2004-03-23

If you are tired of memorizing chords and tab and want to learn how to take that foundation into making sounds you want to hear, this is the best book I've found. Mead talks about the essential skills of training your ear (with practical exercises), about becoming a good rhythm player (even lead players play rhythm 80 percent of the time), the pieces that make up a guitar player's voice, and playing and using the pentatonic scales.

This book won't introduce you to the guitar and it won't transform you into Joe Satriani, but it will help you find your own unique voice.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book.......2003-06-25

This is an absolute must have book for guitar players who have learned to play guitar without an instructor. This book is like sitting down with an instructor and learning alot of things like playing in gigs, playing by ear, what to learn, elc.. All the things you always wanted to know from somebody that knows and the book has the tips you really need to know. This isn't so much a book about learning techniques, except it has a super good layout on learning the pentitonic scales. I have read Lots and lots of guitar books and have been playing for twenty years. I rate this as the one book every student guitar player should read. This book is great whether you are a folk musican like me, or a heavy rock player. You will like this book, there aren't many others like it anywhere.

5 out of 5 stars Book for people who want to play guitar, not learn about it.......2003-05-05

This book is really good if you have been frustrated by having to learn musical notation and the "proper" way of doing things..

There is nothing wrong with learning everything, but some of us want to learn to play just for fun and will probably never be a virtuouso... It also teaches you to make your own music rather than only becoming good at playing other peoples stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious and simple recipes.......2007-10-15

I have always admired Gordon Ramsay's approach to cooking, and I enjoy his television shows as well. My husband surprised me with this book not long ago and I have already cooked a number of recipes from it, with great success! I have been cooking for over 20 years now, and Gordon's lobster spaghetti is hands-down the best dish I have ever cooked. Since trying his method of cooking scrambled eggs (see the Sublime Scrambled Eggs recipe), I will never go back to the old way. The wild mushroom risotto won over my husband, who has never even liked risotto! And my 2 year old son loves the Fruity Yogurt Lollies. This book helps me to turn out restaurant-quality food from my own small kitchen. Do not let Gordon Ramsay's reputation intimidate you - this book is easy to use, well written, and beautifully illustrated. I especially love the chapters on fast food and cooking for kids. Gordon has four children, and the photos of him cooking with his kids are precious. He and his wife were actually voted the best celebrity parents in the United Kingdom! I enjoy cooking for my son and getting him to try new foods, and this book helps me and inspires me to do just that. It's a book that food-loving families can really use. Someone once said that the best dishes are very simple dishes - just take the freshest, highest-quality ingredients you can find and put them together in a simple way that lets their flavors shine through. That is what this book is about and it makes this busy working mom feel like a chef in her own kitchen!

5 out of 5 stars Ramsay dishes up yet more culinary excitement!.......2007-09-28

I've been a Ramsay fan for years. His philosophy and insistence on fresh, wholesome, quality ingredients parallel my own insistence on freshness and, wherever possible, organic ingredients. This book, and the accompanying DVD, is simply fabulous for turning out simple, but incredibly delicious cooking with that little extra flair. The recipes are basic, unpretentious and easy. UK ingredients aren't that hard to find (or subtitute) if you really mean business when it comes to your palate.
Unless you think you can cope with another addiction, avoid the chocolate fondant recipe - Ramsay says it's his favorite and one mouthful, and you'll know why. It's decadent and offers interesting textures, especially served with cold whipped cream or ice cream! Be warned!

5 out of 5 stars Great cookbook for the fancy home chef.......2007-09-25

This is a wonderful intimate little book designed for the home chef. The DVD is rather short, but does have some humor to it. The recipes range from simple to fancy...but all have the common denominator of being quick and simple to prepare using fresh ingredients. All the dishes are very clean tasting and not overly fussy, and there are also fancier recipes for special occasions that do not take hours to prepare.
This chef is similar to Jamie Oliver is some aspects, but his influence is more French rather than Jamie's Italian. Fans of Jamie should also like Gordon's approach to cooking.
The book is arranged in themes such as great fast food, kid's, BBQs, posh, and dinner for two....it is a good reference point for new cooking ideas and ranges from classics to modern,
My absolute favorite recipe in this book is the crispy skin salmon on crushed potatoes, baby leeks with tomato butter - it comes out restaurant class. Also the chocolate fondant is deceptively easy to make, but is very impressive when served up. Another one that comes out beautifully is the bacon wrapped stuffed chicken thigh and also the wild mushroom rissotto.
My only criticism of this book is that the preparation and cooking times are not listed by the recipes, but rather within the recipes themselves. However this is not too much of an annoyance as the prep times and cooking times are generally not excessive.
Gordan is a modern chef, and his food is trendy yet classic, simple yet classy and tastes fantastic. This book has been well worth the purchase price...

4 out of 5 stars he does make it easy!!!!.......2007-09-18

Gordon Ramsey does make it easy to use the recipes in his book. His dvd is clear and easy to follow. Some of the ingredients may be hard to find in this country but his way of cooking is simple and tasty. I love his attitude.."you can do this". Oh, and he uses our measurements for recipes.

5 out of 5 stars Easy Recipes.......2007-09-05

This is my favorite cookbook. These recipes are esaier than the ones in "cooking for dummies" book that I have. The broccolli goat cheese soup in my favorite. The best thing about this cookbook, is that you can add or take away some of the ingrediants in his recipes to make it your own and it still taste good.
