One of the best.......2007-10-05
Current medicine is one of the best medicine books to keep on your self. It has all the info you need plus those little tid bits that make good test questions. I used it to study for my borads and swear they used this book for the questions. Otherwise its a great reference too.
Excellent!.......2007-09-20
I'm a PA-C and and have used hundreds of books. I LOVE THIS BOOK! It is very complete and easy to use without being overwelming like Harrison's. It is an absolute must for any mid-level provider.
Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment is Awesome. There is also a Current Surgery and Current Emergency Medicine that both SUCK.
Concise, complete, no frills, need to know information.......2007-09-14
I am a physician, now retired, and have used, and use, this book for years. I get a new update every two years. IMHO it gives a great review and complete synopsis of many many medical problems. It is paperback. There are no photos, nor graphics. It is well written and well organized. The layout on the pages (using blue titles) makes it easy to read and follow. I highly recommend it.
Essential for daily clinical practice.......2007-08-13
This book is one of the best state-of-the-art clinical knowledge sources. It shows an accurate and concise compilation of most common pathologies, enhancing best diagnosis elements and points of treatment. Essential for daily clinical practice.
Relevant Medical Information.......2007-07-25
It has all the relevant topics you need for a general practice of medicine. It touches on pathophysiology just enough to get you up to speed. There is often little extra clinical advice that is very useful and that I do not encounter in other textbooks. Each chapter also gives you treatment options.
Book Description
Encompassing the entire scope of the practice of midwifery, this new edition has been extensively revised and updated to reflect the full scope of current midwifery practice.
Customer Reviews:
Varney's Midwifery text.......2007-09-29
Excellent book for nursing and midwifery students. Any midwifery practitioner would do well to always have the latest copy in their reference library.
A must read.......2003-11-21
I have always found Varney to be useful and easy to read, especially in comparison to Speroff or Gabbe. I think that this book was never intended to be the definitive text on home birth. If a midwife's interest lies in homebirth, seek out books that cater to that option. I found the skills sections especially helpful. It isn't Varney's job to unite midwives, her primary job is to educate. You can not teach the spirit of midwife through a book, that's where mentoring comes into play. This is certainly a must have for all practicing midwives, regardless of educational background.
Technically accurate, boring read.......2002-11-06
I am impressed by Varney's vast knowledge of hospital procedures as they relate to midwifery care. However, I found this to be "textbook" as a very boring read. Her information did not really cover the practice outside the hospital setting as thoroughly as would be needed for someone praticing in that setting. Her information would be most appreciated by the CNM and the L&D nurse - a great resource for them.
This is a good reference book, but not the best for homebirt.......2001-06-15
This book is a good reference book, but not the best one for homebirth midwives. Myle's, and Anne' Frye's books I have found to be more applicable in my practice. To the above person that thinks that Circumsision should not be addresses, I could not disagree more. Circumsision is a subject that should be addressed prenatally, and Since midwives are supposed to provide basic Post-partum care to the mother and baby during the first six weeks It is essentual that midwives and parents are educated about the issue antapartum
Not for those looking for Home Birth information!.......2000-05-26
This book does no service to the Home Birth community. If you are looking for information on all facets of birth in a MEDICAL setting, then this book would be for you. Home birth facilitators would never recommend some of the practices in this book. (The Zanelli technique, for instance. Which is when you have a baby that's head has delivered but the shoulders are stuck, and it shows you how to push the baby back inside the womb.Or as already mentioned, Circumcision.) This book would be useful for those birth facilitators that intend to practice exclusively in a hospital setting.

Nurse Practitioner's Bus Practice and Legal Guide.......2007-02-07
Excellent condition of book, speedy delivery, and a fantastic content within the book.
Must read, for Nurse Practitioners & students.......2005-10-21
Great book which provides definitions and state-by-state breakdowns of important concepts, such as collaboration, prescriptive authority and SCAs.
2nd edition.......2004-01-28
I found Carolyn Buppert's second edition of Business Practice and Legal Guide to be very helpful. The additional chapters are useful for my practice and for research on a state wide level. I would recommend this book to nurse practitioners and students of the profession. It is proving to be a valuable resource for improving NP practice in Alabama. Be sure to get the second edition (2003/2004)as the first was published in 1995.
Information is outdated.......2004-01-21
As a grad student interested in starting my own practice upon graduation, I found this book to be useless. It has been reprinted by another publishing company and its original copyright date is 1999. Between then and now - 2004 - a lot of things have changed. Therefore, I would recommend that anyone who requires current information should look elsewhere. This is a very expensive book as is not helpful at all!!!
Excellent resource for any nurse practitioner.......2002-11-09
I had the pleasure of reading this book while finishing my last year in nurse practitioner school.
Ms. Buppert is a master in defining how to negotiate business contracts.
I met the author at a nurse practioner conference in Nashville Tn and she was very down to earth and truly magnificent in her knowledge of laws affecting nurse practioners.
I highly recommend this book.

NURSES PHARMACY BOOK.......2007-10-22
I FIRST CAME ACROSS THIS REFERENCE BOOK TEN YEARS AGO,
IN MY OPINION IT IS BY FAR THE BEST NURSING REFERENCE
BOOK CONCERNING DRUGS OUT THERE. ALWAYS UP TO DATE,
AND BETTER THAN SOME OF THE REFERENCE BOOKS THE
MD'S USE. WHICH ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION I'VE
CAUGHT ED DR'S PRESCRIBING THE WRONG DOSAGES ON
DRUGS.
Great Information!!!.......2007-10-05
I had the older edition of this book and needed the newer addition for school. This is a great book, easy to use and I would definately recommend it. Worth every penny. The best drug guide for nurses available in my opinion.
Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses.......2007-09-18
This company is very proficient. I receive the correct book in a timely manner (within the specified time). I would order from this company again
Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses.......2007-09-09
I keep coming back to this one and I have the electronic desk top version and the PDA version. I've ried several but this is the best one so far.
Bad.......2007-09-08
I did not receive the book that I specifically ordered. I expected to receive the 10th edition of a drug book and instead received the 2nd edition with a week left before school started. Be careful with this book distributor.
Book Description
Designed to provide students with essential concepts of disease processes and altered health states, this text is ideal for both discrete and integrated pathophysiology courses. The Second Edition has over 200 new and revised illustrations and incorporates a new feature "Understanding", which uses large pieces of art to outline key processes using a step-by-step approach. The text continues to include such favorite features as: key concept boxes, color-coded summaries, and icons to delineate special considerations for children, the elderly, and pregnant women. The free CD-ROM now provides access to three-dimensional animations so visual learners can gain a greater understanding of common disease and cellular processes. The CD-ROM also includes student review questions.
Customer Reviews:
Very detailed and informative book.......2007-10-02
This book is very detailed and great for papers or just for learning.
This is a book I will be keeping:)
Excelent book for pre-med students........2007-02-12
This is a very well written book for a Pre- Medical student who has taken two serious chemestry courses, anatomy, physiology, biology, physics, and biochemistry. For a nursing student like my self this book is understandable, bur not at all practical for our needs. I suggest using a text book that emphasizes less the detailed occurance of bodily disease, but instead gives a basic understanding of the most common disease, the ramifactaions, interventions, and complications as it deals with nursing practice in real life terms. A doctor will need to understand full the processes in this book. But for a RN a more practical book is suggestable.
Excellent Book.......2006-11-17
Extremely well written, well edited. Also includes the basic physiology so don't feel intimidated if you're not fresh on that. Well organized. Covers all aspects, such as normal versus "abnormal", pathogenesis, sequelae, pharmacology, etc. In short, it's very complete. Yet very readable. Of all my nursing and biology books, this is one of my favorites.
Good for nurses or for any interested layperson.......2005-01-21
This book gives you a good introduction to pathophysiology without being very technical. Even if you are not a medical professional, you will still grasp the concepts because the author gives simple but adequate definition of the disease and its underlying causes. I am a career switcher (switched to RN) and this book worked for me.
A very clear book :).......2004-01-14
This is a fine book from an author who collaborated with other writers to make a book that clearly explains the common diseases that disturb the human body and its organ systems.
What makes this book so good is that before the book discusses about the various diseases that affect the organ systems of the body, you get a preceding chapter that explains the physiology of that organ system when homeostatically normal. This allows the student a quick review and allows the student to compare the behavior of the organ system's state when it is healthy to when it is altered by disease. Additionally, this book comes with an excellent studyguide to help the student focus on what is important about the various diseases, syndromes and conditons that can make the body unhealthy. The CD that comes with this book is a great educational tool as well. The writers and the publishers of this book did a very fine job of making sure all the tools are in place to help the student appreciate and understand pathophysiology and its importance in the health field.
This book also has good color pictures of how various diseases look and flow charts of how the disease progresses or manifests.
The only problem with this book(a minor problem) is that some diseases are not discussed deeply enough. I think that since this is a pathophysiology book, it should go more indepth with the common diseases. An example is the disease glacoma. I'm not sure if it covers glacoma but if it did, it did not cover the signs and symptoms of it enough. It needs to focus on the mechanism of the disease on a cellular level as well as on an organ level. There are some diseases in which the signs, symptoms and diagnosis is well portrayed but the mechnisms are not. Also it needs to focus less on the treatment of the disease and more on the diagnosis IMHO, however that is disputable becuae that is just my opinion.
Overall this is a fine book. I guess in time this book will have some new improvement when the new editions come out. Good book.

Superb book.......2007-09-25
If you are about to take your NCLEX test then this book is an absolute Perl amongst NCLEX test preparation books. This book gives you the ultimate strategy for taking the NCLEX test. Kaplan provides you with a strategy that WORKS. Foreign trained nurses simply cannot do without. Buy this book.
Must have for NCLEX review!!!.......2007-08-01
I just passed NCLEX!!!
This is a wonderful book. It has a total of two practice tests ( one in print and one on the CD). The questions were like the ones I saw on NCLEX. There are some other NCLEX books I had that had questions that were much too easy but this one will give you a real accurate representation of the real test. The CD is a little wierd to run, It does run but its like 10 years in the past in Technology. Don't get me wrong the questions were great, and the layout was just like the NCLEX screens.
Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to pass the NCLEX.............2007-07-13
get this book! You won't regret it! I bought FOUR review books and this one proved invaluable! (the others proved to be a waste of my money!)
Not as good as I thought.......2007-05-07
This book is ok if you are up to date and most likely depicits NCLEX style but I personally didnt like it
very good.......2007-04-02
I like the way this book is set up. I also have a Kaplan review from the course itself, but this is an easier read.

This book is fantastic. It is a necessary reference to anyone working in a critical care area.
Great Book!.......2007-04-14
This is a great book. It is very easy to find the drugs you need. I highly recommend it to my nursing students and carry one with me when I take them to clinical so I can be up to date on the information also.
At arm's reach.......2007-03-21
I'm a pharmacist, and I keep this book at arm's reach for quick reference. I use it to check administration details, and my nurse friends are always referring to their copy. It's a good, well rounded resource for the ER or the med-surg setting. My old copy is going to a nursing student for study and reference.
2007 Intravenous Medications: A Handbook for Nurses and Health Professionals (Intravenous Medications).......2007-02-18
this is an excellent book. I'm a nursing student and it has up to date meds that we need to know for school and the books at school don't have. It also has the best information on the medications that I've seen in any of our school books
Betty Gehart's IV Medications.......2007-01-16

Nurse practitioner certification.......2007-08-28
I would recommend this product to anyone preparing to take the np certification examination, but the person should also obtain the cd's.
ARNP Review.......2007-08-15
I found this book very useful, liked the questions, followed by the content. Could use more pediatric input so it could be used by family practice.
Excellent Review Book!!.......2007-08-10
I recently took the ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner exam and passed on the first try. I used this book during my studies... it is very well written with questions on a subject area with a discussion of the subject area following the questions. There were many questions that were verbatim on the exam. I would highly recommend this book! It is also a good resource for use while in practice. Happy Studying!!!
Good Layout.......2007-07-24
This book is clear and concise. Each chapter starts with questions and then has all the answers in the text description. I felt it prepared me well for the test that I passed:)
great resource.......2007-07-20
A great resource, I used this book, combined with the fitzgerald CD review set and the workbook that comes with the CDs, and passed my AANP FNP exam on the first try! So many of the questions from the review material were present almost word-for-word on the exam, especially in the hemology, women's health and pediatric sections, I felt so well prepared! My only complaint with this book is that sometimes it gives TOO much info relating to particular areas, and sometimes too little, to the point where a few questions were confusing until I used other resources to answer my doubts!

Customer Reviews:
Great Q/A book!!!.......2007-10-11
This book served as an excellent addition to my study material. I had completed the Fitzgerald review course (Highly recommended!) and ordered this book to supplement my study. It was GREAT! It is a truely Question/Answer book. Questions on the front of the page and answers on the back. It also included 4 practice exams. They were very tough exams and made me really dig for the answer. Very similar to the boards!!
Great at teaching you how to eliminate answers.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone sitting for the Adult/Family boards.
By the way, I passed my boards--and this book helped!
Review book.......2007-09-21
This book is great for studying for tests during the FNP program. I'm sure it will help me with my exam as well because it is very thorough! I wish I would've had it through my entire MSN program.
Great review book!.......2007-09-10
I just got finished taking my Adult NP certification exam with the AANP and I think that this book was EXTREMELY helpful! I did use a couple other books and did the Fitzgerald Review but this was in my opinion the best for me! There are a ton of questions and it is so helpful to see the rationale. By the way, I passed... that is why I am recommending this so highly!!! :)
family nurse practitioner certificate prep exam.......2007-09-01
it was good, but a little easy. I liked how the answers gave you much more than just the correct answers (they also gave you a little more info that could increase your knowledge about the topic). however, I would recommend for an NP prep guide the following: Family nurse practitioner, certification review by Kidd, Robinson and Kish. this one is much harder but I think it will prepare me for the final exam!
Great Review.......2007-05-07
I appreciate the simplicity and practicality of this reference. The book is not so big that you can't carry it with you and get a little studying in whenever you have a little time to spare. I do wish it came with a CD.
