5 out of 5 stars A beautiful, emotionally-charged book.......2007-10-16

The first time I read this book was in a bookstore where I fought valiantly against the urge to cry copiously. Yesterday, during both readings of my daughter's newly arrived copy, I found my voice breaking and tears starting. In simple prose and spare but beautiful drawings, this book does a simply wonderful job of summing up the complexities of a mother's love for her daughter. I can't think of another book that more perfectly expresses the love I feel for my little girl. I love how the book begins with the newborn and ends with the newborn as an old woman. It led to a discussion with my daughter of how I was once a baby in my own mother's arms and how I have grown to have a daughter of my own. The book does such a lovely job of describing this circle of life. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I highly recommend this for any mother of a daughter--no matter how young or old your little girl.

5 out of 5 stars If you're a mom, this will make you cry.......2007-10-10

Touching book about being a mom. I've gotten it for my mom friends as a gift, and they all found it very touching. It's geared toward mom/daughter, but the message is sentimental. Cry everytime I read it. Love this book.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-10-10

I absolutely love this book and cry or get emotional almost every time I read it. I have purchased it as a baby book for every woman I know who has recently had a baby girl. Each one of them feels the same for it. It is a treasure.

5 out of 5 stars A Mother's Storybook Wish for Her Child.......2007-10-04

SOMEDAY is a mother's heartfelt storybook wish for her child -- that her child will grow up healthy, experience great joys, and someday have a family of her own. It's also a wish that she will be lovingly remembered by her child ("Someday, a long time from now, your own hair will glow silver in the sun. And when that day comes, love, you will remember be.") The book is reminiscent of Robert Munsch's Love You Forever, but the storyline is simpler and more realistic. The illustrations complement the story beautifully. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars touching, to say the least.......2007-09-21

This book brings me to tears at the very thought of it. I got about 1/2 way through the darling pictures and wonderful, sweet words and the tears started. By the time I finished I was a mess. I'm sure it will touch every mother who reads it-it is definitely a book for a baby girl or daughter since the pictures depict a mother/daughter relationship. It's about the simple memories we make with our children that mean more than anything. It's also about the dreams we hold for them. I now have a FAVORITE new book, one that will definitely be bought for others as well. Don't miss this one!

Opposite Attract

Cain had chosen his lifestyle. He thrived on the challenge. No drug, he told himself, could produce the physical or emotional high of a successfully completed mission. No drug and no woman.

Then why was he standing on a cold San Francisco pier like a lovelorn teenager, hoping for a glimpse of Linette Collins?

And then he saw her. For a moment it felt as if someone had hit him against the back of his head. He went stock-still.

She stood in line at a fish and chips place. The wind whipped her hair about her face and she lifted a finger to wrap a thick strand of dark hair behind her ear.

The smart thing to do was to turn around, and walk away as fast as his feet would carry him. He'd gotten what he wanted. One last look at her. His curiosity should be satisfied.

But even as his mind formulated the thought, Cain knew that just seeing Linette again wasn't enough.

The book was moving. I actually cried (I hardly cry). However, I felt that the other characters like Bailey and Stan should get their own stories.

Debbie Macomber's SOMEDAY SOON, which is the prequel to SOONER OR LATER is a wonderful contemporary about a young widow, Linette Collins, who becomes involved with the head of a mercenary group, Cain McClellan. She's reluctant to love and lose again, and Cain, well he's never even CONSIDERED having a "permanent" woman. But, his days of reckless abandon are numbered when he falls in love with Linette--much to the chagrin of his mercenary buddies--and almost loses her to international terorists. buddies.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars A Terrible Book for an Actual Child.......2004-07-21

I can't believe that the previous reviewers (who appeared to like the book)actually read this book to a young child. My daughter was very unhappy and upset as the tree in the story slowly died. Maybe pollution is a big problem (although I am unfamiliar with a situation like this actually occurring in the real world) but maybe people can wait until our kids reach puberty before they start with the propaganda.

5 out of 5 stars A sentimental beauty of a book.......2000-11-20

I found this book at the library and cried when I read it. The story is that of a young family coping with the loss of their special tree that died from poisin someone had dumped nearby. The daughter is confused and asks the philosophical question,"Why did it die?" and the father answers "Trees get old and die." To which she replies "But not like this." You see the tree was healthy and full of life. It was sudden and unexpected as death often is. The book has an inspirational ending when the daughter remembers her acorn collection and decides to plant one so that the tree lives on in some way.

I bought this book for a friend whose husband died suddenly at the peak of his life, his young daughter only six months old. I think this book would be great for anyone who needs some help explaining death to children. It would be a great stepping stone especailly for kids reluctant to discuss their grief. I wouldn't be surprized if child psychologists have reccommended this book for just that.

A great book! This talks about growing up and planting atree. As the tree ages, so does she. One spring, the tree doesn't makegreen leaves. They call a tree doctor. The doctor tells them that their tree is sick. Every day they go visit the tree. They talk to it and tell it to have hope. The family does everything possible to help the tree. Others stop and leave notes and gifts for the tree. I found this book to be great. It is a real life situation that could happen to any tree. Even though it is almost a picture book, I found it to be a great book. If you have kids or younger siblings, read it to them. I am pretty sure that they will like it too.

4 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, for ages 7-11.......2007-03-10

I originally purchased this book for my niece (who is 5) who lost a family member. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this was for slightly older children. It's explinations were too drawn out for someone who is 5. However, for an older child is would be a great way to answer some questions they may have regarding what happens when you die from a Biblical perspective.

5 out of 5 stars Someday Heaven.......2007-02-03

Good book to help teach three year old that Heaven is a wonderful places. I was at a loses of how to teach kids this. Then I did some look and locate this book. It may not be for everyone. But I just loved it.

5 out of 5 stars Someday Heaven.......2006-11-10

This book was given to my children when their grandfather died rather suddenly. They were 7 and 4 years of age at the time. Reading the book together was a wonderful way to help them try and understand/visualize where their grandfather had gone. I recently ordered this book for my four-year-old niece who was having difficulty trying to grasp what heaven was and why she couldn't go there to see her grandfather after he died.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful grief tool, but an asset to any home..........2006-02-22

This book was given to my family by a dear hospice nurse almost ten years ago when my young husband was in the very late stages of cancer. It became a favorite book for our four children, then ages 4,6,10 and 13, and for other visiting family members as we grappled with real life & death issues. As followers of Christ we had hope amidst the anguish; this book gave us some lovely analogies on what the process of dying and arriving in heaven might be like, what their dad and someday, each of us, had to look forward to. It helped the children and adults alike as we processed the feelings, the physical changes in my husband and contemplated our own mortality. I believe that this book was an excellent tool in helping my kids deal with this trajedy and understand that death for a Christian is NOT punishment. A fantastic celebration awaits all who love Jesus as he welcomes us home... where we will be more ALIVE than ever, forever! (I've given this book to many others going through pending or recent losses. They, too, found the book very encouraging and helpful.)

5 out of 5 stars A must have..........2004-03-04

This is one of the very best children's books I have ever read. I highly recommend this book for anyone with kids. I have given it to all of my nieces and nephews along with a number of other kids. I cannot say enough about how good this book is. Larry Libby has an uncanny knack for gently and tenderly communicating to young children.

5 out of 5 stars SOMEDAY You should really read this book.......2003-09-16

I picked this book up at the library one day when I didn't have much time for browsing around. I saw that it had an audio version and knew that typically only the better books get made into audio. Since I had a long car ride coming up, I grabbed the audio book and checked it out.

It is WONDERFUL. I can't believe I've never heard of the author or the book before. The characters -- daughter, Mom, Grandmom are all likeable and entertaining. They each have very different desires and the back and forth as they negotiate their daily lives is very funny and very believable. I haven't finished the book yet, as it outlasted the drive, but each day as I jump in my car I can hardly wait to get back to it (don't ask why someone old enough to drive a car is listening to a tape in the juvenile section).

Ms. Koller, this book is the berries!!! (Only the author, those who have read the book, or are fairly old will quite understand the meaning of that line).

Crown Princess Laurentia is 25, a widow, and a virgin. Her first marriage was a nightmare, and she's not anxious to repeat the experience, but she must marry and produce an heir to the throne. King Jerome adores his daughter and summons suitors from far and near to compete for her hand, determined that she shall marry for love to a man worthy of her. Neither Laurentia nor the King could have anticipated that the man who would make her heart sing would be Dominic of Baminia, the mercenary and bastard brother of the king of neighboring Sereminia. Laurentia fights Dominic's overwhelming sensual pull, for he's much too handsome and she has cause to distrust handsome, powerful men. Meanwhile, Dominic has a dark agenda that honor insists he fulfill, but despite his better sense, he finds himself falling in love with the petite, courageous Princess. Will Laurentia be able to forgive Dom's betrayal? Will Dom discover before it's too late that it's love and not just lust that he feels for the Princess?

In this sequel to The Runaway Princess, Dodd pairs a hard-edged, handsome mercenary with a lovely, wise princess and makes the match not only believable but also completely enjoyable. Both fast-paced and adventurous with passion aplenty and a warm supporting cast--as well as a satisfyingly evil villain--this heartfelt historical will not disappoint. --Lois Faye Dyer

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Not so bad. .......2005-01-19

I have read both books in the series, how they are suppose to go. And yes, Dominic was not a good guy in the first book, but was not all that bad. Not as bad as some villans. He sparked interest in what would happen to him and his book jumps up 13 years. So, he is not the same. He is more of a ruthless character that has had the bad end of the stick for his whole life. You get a good background of Dom in The Runaway Princess and then in Someday My Prince, you get more of his story which is not a good one at all. Dom has led a hard life and did what he had to do to get by. Because of his life, it makes him an ok hero. He had to learn the hard way, but instead of being a really bad apple, he tried to keep whatever honest qualities that he could and still live his hard life. That is why he gets so hung up on giving his word. When that is all you have it has to mean something. I liked that he had a depth to his feelings that was like a hidden well. He was not the average hero, but neither was his pain. He could have been worse then he was and done worse. He stillhad some morals. I liked it, gave it five stars and would reccomend it as well.

4 out of 5 stars Still a good read despite hero.......2004-05-11

Crown Princess Laurentia knew it was her duty to choose a suitable husband, in order to produce an heir to the throne of Bertinierre. But she had been down the matrimonial road once before, and it had been disastrous. Now at twenty-five, she is a widow, and still a virgin. Her father, King Jerome, has invited potential suitors from far and wide, hoping someone will capture his daughter's attention. He wants nothing more than love and happiness for her. Laurentia has found no one the least bit interesting, until she meets Prince Dominic.

Prince Domonic is the illegitimate brother of the king of neighboring Sereminia. Not only that, but he's a mercenary, and the black sheep of the family. Due to recent threats to the throne, Laurentia's father hires Dominic to protect his daughter from harm. But who will protect Laurentia from the undeniable desire Dominic elicits from her, despite her efforts to escape it? And will he prove to be the one love she has been searching for, or will his debt of honor end in betrayal of the beautiful princess?

This is the sequel to THE RUNAWAY PRINCESS which I've yet to read. While this was an enjoyable story, it wasn't one of my favorites by Ms. Dodd. Mostly due to the hero being rather harsh and brooding, with a hidden agenda of betrayal. From what I understand, Dominic was introduced in the first book, and he was far from nice in it. Laurentia is a likeable, intelligent, and strong willed heroine. There are moments of humor here and the love scenes are quite sensual. As for a recommendation, if you're a Dodd fan like me, I'd recommend reading this one. However, if you've never read anything by this author, I'd recommend beginning with the Governess Bride Series, or THAT SCANDALOUS EVENING, rather than this selection.

3 out of 5 stars Not the Best Hero....but...........2003-08-16

This book was about average for Dodd. This is only the second book from her that I have not enjoyed the hero. It would be helpful to you to read "Runaway Princess" before reading this book. It explains the background of Dominic a little better than this novel.

Princess Laurentia is looking for a husband so that she can continue her royal line. Dominic declares himself first her suitor, and then her bodyguard after a blotched kidnapping attempt. This book centers around the time of Laurentia's birthday, with most of the story moving within this time frame. Ultimately, Dominic is after a "secret" from Laurentia in order to gain financial wealth, but ends up falling in love with her in the process.

SOMEDAY MY PRINCE does not have a lot of charm. I did like the heroine, Princess Laurentia. She came across in a much more pleasant manner than the hero. However, it was hard to believe that Laurentia would forgive Dominic so easier for his betrayal. Ultimately, this book is worth the read, but don't be surprised if you are a longtime Dodd fan, and are slightly disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Um ok.......2002-11-15

so I got this book and you know what its about from reading about
from reading above so i wont't go into that. If you have read the runnaway princess you know who dom is. I am sorry but after what he did in that book how was I supposed to like him. Frankly I didn't start to like him here after what he does. It was a good read but not one of her best. I like this writer, and some parts of the story I liked.

3 out of 5 stars LIGHT AND ENTERTAINING.......2001-03-08

SOMEDAY MY PRINCE, a romance novel, is fantasy-filled and suited more to a reader in the teenage years. It's the story of Laurentia, a princess who knows the secret of her country's wealth, and Dom, a mercenary whose job it is to seduce her into telling him that secret. Neither is what the other expected. Yet they fall in love and live happily ever after. It's a very light read.

4 out of 5 stars Someday: Is Not A Day of the Week.......2007-09-17

A great read (to the class)! The students loved the story and pictures. It's a story to be read over and over again! It helps second language learners understand the differences between the days of the week and "someday".

5 out of 5 stars I bought one, then five more.......2005-09-19

I bought one copy of "Someday," anticipating it as a gift for my oldest grandson. But after reading the book, I decided this is a book for parents and grandparents, and then ordered five more copies to make sure I have plenty for relatives and friends.

"Someday" is a reminder that was cannot let the busy-ness of life take us away from the important things in life -- spending time with your children and grandchildren.

Both in words and pictures, this is a marvelous tale.

4 out of 5 stars great book!.......2005-03-20

I had the opportunity to hear the author read this story and immediately bought it for my son and kdg classroom! It is a great reminder, for in our demanding world, that always keeps us 'busy', we mustn't put off SOMEDAY what we can do today!
I plan on reading it to the parents on the next parent teacher night!

      Book Description

Nobody understands why Angeline is so smart. She could read the first time she picked up a book, she can play the piano without ever having had a lesson, and she even knows what the weather is going to be. But being smart is causing Angeline nothing but trouble. The mean kids in school call her a freak, her teacher finds her troublesome, and even her own father doesn't know what to do with an eight-year-old girl who seems to be a genius. Angeline doesn't want to be either a genius or a freak. She just wants the chance to be herself and be happy. But it's only when she makes friends with a boy the kids call "Goon" and the teacher they call "Mr. Bone" that Angeline gets that chance.

5 out of 5 stars The hilarious Sachar strikes again!.......2007-05-25

I liked this book even if the beginning was quite slow, but most of the story got my mind glued to it that I found myself straying deeper into the story and reading it to the end.

The setting was somewhere in the US, in a small place near Mitchell beach. The book does not exactly describe where the story took place.

The story is about an eight year old girl named Angeline Persopolis whom they say is a genius. She could read before she was old enough to turn the pages of a book. She mastered the piano without a single lesson; she's also been able to predict the weather. But all this genius has done nothing but gets her into trouble. Mean kids in her school call her a genius freak. For Angeline her only friends are Gary Boone (a.k.a. Goon), a fifth grader who tries to be a comedian and only Angeline thinks he's funny. Gary's teacher Miss Turbone (a.k.a. Mr. Bone), is the only teacher in their school who understands Angeline. Someday Angeline hopes to be another smart and happy eight year old. Someday her father says, but for Angeline however someday is not soon enough. If you're looking for a funny yet inspiring book, I recommend this hilarious Louis Sachar's "Someday Angeline".
