Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Great Resource!.......2007-06-20

This book is an excellent resource which gives easy to read, step-by-step instructions on how to teach many basic language concepts including grammar, vocabulary, and conversation. As a busy Speech-Pathologist working in a school system, I have found that I consistently pick this book up. It gives me immediate access to planning therapy sessions that are extremely effective! Initially, it was bought for my students with autism. However, I find that I use this resource with all of my language students. This book is a MUST HAVE for any SLP or Special Education teacher!

An Enduring Christian Classic .......2006-03-14

John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress originally published in 1678 is an enduring classic in Christian inspirational writing. In the present edition Markham and Wiersbe have sought to make this text more accessible to the modern reader by minor updates to the language and structure.

The book describes the allegorical journey of a Christian pilgrim from the City of Destruction to the Eternal City (Earth to Heaven). Throughout this trip the pilgrim encounters a range of individuals that embody various human characteristics (doubt, mistrust, superficiality, etc.). Most thoughtful readers will undoubtedly see something of themselves in these characters.

The editors have added helpful historic and religious notes to better situate the modern reader to Bunyan's seventeenth century context. Brief appendices discussing the Puritans and Bunyan have also been included. Readers who enjoy works such as C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce and The Screwtape Letters may be interested in this book.

Overall, it is one of the better works in the genre of inspirational religious writing. I highly recommend it to all readers

Bunyan's Masterpiece in Respectfully Modern English.......2005-10-04

Wiersebe has done a great job revising the English to make Pilgrim's Progress understandable to the modern American. His revisions are done sparingly, preserving the style of the original.
As a devout Evangelical himself, Wiersbe has no agenda other than making the work understandable. His notes and comments at the end of each section offer theological insights, both true to Bunyan and true to the Scripture.

If you are reading Pilgrim's Progress for you own edification, or if you are teaching a class, this is the best edition.

Appropriate for our times.......2005-06-28

Having read the original many years ago, I find this version refreshing and necessary to our times. Sadly, some of our commentaries thrashing the book for paraphrasing shows an "artsy" snobery when what we should be doing is hailing the author for being inciteful enough to realize that the message is what is most important and it will not reach it's intended audience if they cannot understand the language. Let's face it, the USA sits at the bottom of the educational food chain; perhaps this version of the book will reach and thus help bring to Christ some of our less educated brothers and sisters. Isn't that what is most important?

A Pilgrims Progress for the rest of us!.......2003-08-30

Get this version of Pilgrims Progress if you want to understand it best. The notes in this book are outstanding and are presented along side the text so you don't have to flip pages. I have given out about 10 copies of this book to my friends and they have all loved it. I have read this book to young and old and they all enjoyed it. Yes, it is a paraphase but it lovingly captures the message and explains the historical context.

Do not forget that Bunyan was a simple tinker; a practical man. I don't think he would have objected to this paraphrase so long as the message he intended came through clearly and was accessible to everyone, and in this, it well accomplishes. Warren W. Wiersbe is a well known international Bible conference teacher, a gifted communicator, and is known as a "pastors, pastor." He has kept to Bunyan's meaning and gives about the best running commentaries available. Buy the original for its poetic language, but if you want to understand its timeless message and have a fun read, buy this version. In fact, buy five copies and share them with friends. It was the message, not the language, which made this one of two books almost every English family owned in Bunyan's times.

Excellent Companion to Original Work.......2001-06-22

Wiersbe's revised edition of this classic is notable for several reasons. The extensive notes, Scripture references and end-of-chapter comments are excellent. Also, the translation manages to retain the style and form of the original--I wasn't jarred by obviously modern words or phrases. I would recommend The New Pilgrim's Progress, especially as a companion in studying Bunyan's original work.

Copiously illustrated review of 41 works.......2005-02-07

This album quality review at 8.75 x 9.5 inches (22.3 x 24 cm) is a survey of all the major buildings and projects from 1966 to 1995 on 275 pages filled in with mainly exquisite illustrations. After 23 pages of well illustrated analytical essays, each of the presented 41 works is introduced with text from a quarter to two pages long, and followed by the best possible color photos, plans, sections, elevations, details totaling in approx. 400 - all well balanced, superbly crisp and perfectly legible. Short biography, project credits, general bibliography, etc. on several pages end the book. Color photos on the best possible level may serve non-technically oriented readers despite book's technical character.

A Great Book!.......2002-02-15

This is the original "Life Application Bible." I now understand why it is considered the 2nd most influential book ever written (the Bible being the first). The story is timeless. It applies to us now as much as it did to its original readers in the 1600s. Fabulously written! If King James English is too cumbersome for you, try the Modern English version. It is very true to the original. It is exceptionaly inspiring.

The Pilgrims Progress.......2001-04-04

This is a wonderful book. The language can be a bit difficult, however the story line is adventuresome and exciting. Christian, the main character, begins his life as an average person in the city of destruction. Symbolically, over the course of his life, he overcomes temptation and reaches the Celestial City, heaven, his ultimate goal as a christian.

Easy read...Just like the amplified Bible.........2003-03-02

If you have no desire to tackle the "old English" then this is the Pilgrim's Progress for you. Everyone should read The Pilgrims Progress as well as Hinds Feet For High Places. We need to read the classics and this one is an easy read.

In Praise of the Original version by John Bunyan.......2003-01-26

In the beginning we were very excited because we felt like Mr. Pappas clarified some of the messages of Christians experiences. However, when we read comparatively with John Bunyans original we found several glaring exclusions, changes, and introductions of different theological ideas. John Bunyan was Reformed in his theology. This book takes a definite dispensational turn (a doctrine introduced only in the last 150 years and not scriptural). There is terminology inserted in this "amplified" version that makes the story even harder to understand, (i.e. The two witnesses; latter rain). The meaning of these two terms is debatable depending on denominational differences. Mr. Pappas also completely reversed the words in some instances, saying the exact opposite of what Bunyan said. (e.g. In the Second Stage, Bunyan says that God put the man in the cage-Pappas says that the man put himself in the cage.)

Part of the reason that Pilgrims Progress has faded out of favor is it's reformed context, and most denominations have fallen into dispensationalism. If you aren't familiar with what I am referring to then it is imperative that you seek out my meaning. Then, if you choose to remain of a dispensational mind this book is fine. But if you choose to keep to the reformed path, this version must be rejected.

I am very sorry to have to give this negative review, I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised by a new easier to understand version for my grandchildren.

Incredibly well-adapted to "our times-" Great Family Reading.......1999-09-05

We began the "Aloud" reading of this wonderful book in our home as daily family time, and our four children, ages 5-14, have been energetic in their enthusiasm over it. We splurged and purchased each of them their own copy since we take turns reading, and they guard their books well. Using modern-day terminology, Pappas' Pilgrim's Progress weaves an understandable, incredible journey. Even our five year old is entranced, and all are enriched as we discover and discuss the meanings of the players' and places' names. We keep the original version of Pilgrim's Progress nearby and compare passages at times. Mr. Pappas' rendition of this classic is superb. His amplifications really do enhance the journey of Christian, are not distracting, nor (important to me) do they take away from the original text. This is an heirloom edition, to be sure. We have also very, very much enjoyed the old-world graphics throughout the book as it lends to take us back to the era in which it was staged.

Inspiring.......2007-03-08

This is a great classic and a must have for any Christian striving to follow Jesus Christ and His Word. Although the Old English is hard to get through at times, it is well worth the effort for the depth of wisdom contained within the pages. It is a great ecouragement and a sober warning of the trials and tribulations we expect to face on the narrow path we're called to walk.

Still a Classic After All These Years.......2006-02-28

Well worth the short time it takes to read it. Had heard of this book all my life, but had never read it. Now I know what I was missing. Not that there is anything new here in terms of faith or theology--there's not. But the manner in which this story is told is entertaining and captivating, still, after all these years. Truths we have been taught and learned through our life's experience are here, all told in a most entertaining and enlightening way. It makes one smile, laugh and, at times, touches one's heart. If it is your first time to read it or your first time in a long time, it's well worth the read. Well worth it. We're all pilgrims and we are all traveling through a foreign land...

Pilgrims Progress--A Blessing.......2005-10-05

This audio book has been a joy. It happens to be one of my faviorte things to listen to. All my friends at college know lines from it because I talk about it constantly. The story begins with Christian going on pilgrimage in search of heaven. I would encourage all to get this book. The narrator Edward de Souza is wonderful. The applications John Bunyan makes with the Christian life are so practical and real. As a young person its principles have encouraged me as I go about life's journey. I'm reminded of all those who went on pilgrimage, and the reason they continued or left the way. We will find the waters of life deeper or shallower according to our faith in the King of the Place (Heaven). Buy the book. I don't think you will be disappointed. If you don't like it, let me know I will take it.

Michael Sorkin is one of the most visible and talked-about architects today. He was for several years the influential and outspoken architectural critic at the Village Voice, a critical and polemical – yet humorous – voice in contemporary culture. In recent years he has begun to focus on his own work. This is the first complete volume on the multifaceted architecture and design projects of the Michael Sorkin Studio. The work of the studio is grounded in the belief that the city is both the primary source of the social meaning of the architecture and the most important challenge confronting the profession today. Particularly significant is the ongoing inquiry into prospective forms sustainable, post-technological cities, presented here in a range of formal experiments that examine architecture at different scales. Many of the projects are theoretical and experimental – part invention and part critique – and come to fruition through drawings, models, exhibitions, writings, and installations. All of these are shown in the book, accompanied by Sorkin's own texts, which discuss the goals of each project, the influences on it, and the research and design process, as well as its architectural, social, and political commentary. Sorkin believes that every architect has to reinvent architecture, and this book is a record of the research behind his own ambitious attempts at reinvention.
