Customer Reviews:
This is an excellent book for everyone........1999-03-11
This book has been in my collection since its publication and has been read many times. It's still difficult to believe that this beautiful, young princess is no longer on her earthly sojourn but has moved on to a much better place.
The forward is written by The Reverend Tony Lloyd who is The Executive Director of The Leprosy Mission. The following quote is taken from the foreward on page 11: "Leprosy may not be mentally and physically damaging, but it is often erroneously seen as a curse from the gods, and the 'victims' then become outcasts. Since Diana herself was the frequent victim of pain and anguish, she had a special empathy for those who suffered in the same way. It is not a coincidence that five of her six remaining charities are associated with stigma.
"She was charismatic, witty, and, above all, a womain of extraordinary compassion. This was demonstrated both in the limelight and, more often, when there were no cameras or reporters present." So many times, one tends not to read the preface or the forward of a book and, often, valuable information can be gleaned from these. I, for one, feel that the last sentence of the above quote is crucial since there are still may people who think that Diana did everything in full view of cameras.
If one collects books on Diana, this book is a must. There is not any new material, there are several pictures not seen before; however, as with all books, it is presented in a different format and style. One is taken through Diana's life as a toddler, as a small girl, as a teenager, as an adult, and lastly, through her funeral service and to her final resting place on the small oval island at Althrop - her ancestral home.
Following are three quotations of Diana's: "I shall get married when I am sure that I am in love, so that we will never be divorced," said by Diana as a small girl - page 15. On page 30, "I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world when I looked at Charles through my veil. I had tremendous hope in my heart." On page 72, "I think the biggest disease this world suffers from in this day and age is the disease of people feeling unloved, and I know that I can give love for a minute, for half an hour; for a day, for a month, but I can give. I'm very happy to do that and I want to do that."
This is a great, but sad tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales. This book contains many beautiful pictures in color and a few in black and white. This book is a must for anyone who collect books on Diana, Princess of Wales.
A must-have for Diana book collectors!!.......1999-02-06
Just when you think that you've read all there is about the late POW, along comes this well-written volume. It wasn't just the same old text with a few changes of words to make you think it was all new. I really found this book refreshing in content. One of the best coverages of the funeral I've read to date! Also pictures that I had not seen previously--and I have an embarrassingly large collection of them! However, while you're waiting for this book at Amazon.com to be released, I purchased mine at Waldenbooks on the clearance table for $2.99. I was shocked to see such a great book at such a steal, it's definatly worth the asking price here!
This is a very excellent tribute to Diana........1998-05-15
I have a few books about Diana, but this one, A Tribute to the People's Princess, I found to be very excellent. It shows Diana in many pictures in her different roles in life:Princess of Wales, mother, wife and humanitarian. I recommend everyone who wants to learn more about Princess Diana, to read this book, you'll be glad you did.
This book was excellent it had some different photos.......1998-04-02
I have many books on Diana and was pleased to see this one come out. It has nice colourful pictures of her and some different poses. Highly recommend it.
This is one great book!.......1997-11-22

Diana's love/hate relationship with the camera is evident from countless photos snatched by ruthless paparazzi. But Diana: Princess of Wales presents an adoring portrait of this widely admired and gentle woman. The book's 200-plus beautiful photographs chronicle Diana's life from early childhood through her somber funeral. The images range from a giggly schoolgirl to a still-playful mother to the perfect English rose celebrated in song.
Michael O'Mara, one of Britain's leading editors of books about the princess, chose his own favorite pictures for publication in this book, including those taken by Diana's father and by Patrick Demarchelier in the 1990s. Many of these photos were also Diana's favorites, taken with full permission. A donation from the sale of each copy will go to the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. --Gina Kaysen

Beautiful & Ravishing !.......2006-07-09
I just loved this huge/thick Book...The pictures are simply AWESOME & HRH Princess Lady Diana looks simply BEAUTIFUL (whether as a child, teenager, youth, adult, wife, mother, social worker or as a Princess)...So go BUY it, if u still LOVE her the way I do.
4 stars - for the pictures.......2001-08-01
This book is a memorial edition of a similar book these guys did of the Princess some time before her death. It has quite a few pictures that you'll rarely see elsewhere, probably because O'Mara is our pal Andrew Morton's publisher and they had worked with him and in effect used the Princess to get a hot seller.
Lovely.......2001-06-02
This is by far one of the best and most tasteful photographic remembrances for the late princess. The pictures, ranging from her childhood to her public duties as Princess of Wales, all show Diana as the real, beautiful, kind, wonderful, HUMAN person she was. You don't just see the public photographs of her, but also, as has been said in reviews before, personal photographs from her family albums. This is a fabulous book, and most definitely recommended!
This is a lovely tribute to the late princess........1998-12-31
O'Mara in his tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, uses pictures which were taken by her father, the late Earl Spencer for her years as a toddler, her childhood, and her youth. Naturally, he selects those which were her favorites. His photographic tribute begins with Diana as a toddler and goes through her untimely and tragic death. This tribute contains many photographs from her childhood and youth which I had never seen before.
In the forward, O'Mara writes: " I once wrote that Diana, Princess of Wales, was the most loved person in the world. Now that she has been tagically taken from us, I realise that my words were not strong enough. Diana was a treasure; not just a national treasure, for her light was too bright to shine in one country alone, but a treasure to be shared with the world. The unprecedented level of worldwide grief for her has shown that the people's princess had no equal and can never be replaced. ....
"In preparing this tribute to Diana I have been stuck by the warmth that beams out from the Diana in the pictures - beautiful? Naturally - but it is that straight-forward human warmth of her expression which leaves the lasting impression."
O'Mara has each picture tastefully arranged and captioned according to place, date, etc. This is truly a beautiful tribute to a beautiful, young princess who will live forever in our hearts.
This is a hardback book which measures 83/4x12 inches and contains 160 pages.
The true Princess Royal.......1998-06-01
I was lucky to go to the preauction showing of her gowns with my professor. This woman epitomizes what a 20th Century princess and Princess Royal should be. She is the true Once and Future Queen of England and Charles should be truly ashamed of himself and his selfish, immature behavior.
Amazon.com
Even the most jaded watchers of the royal saga were caught up in the worldwide outpouring of emotion that followed Princess Diana's death on August 31, 1997. Thousands--maybe millions--paid their respects with flowers; the 80-odd people who contributed their reflections to this book pay homage with well-chosen words. This compilation of memories and tributes, released exactly one year after Diana's death, represents a remarkable range: brilliant writers Martin Amis and Maya Angelou, legendary film director Richard Attenborough, friends and family of Diana, political figures, clergymen, and a sampling of the ordinary people who were touched by the life of this extraordinary woman. For all the reams written about the princess, her story is not complete without a record of the intimate emotions she evoked in acquaintances, historians, feminists, humanitarians, and journalists, which are all captured in the essays, poems, and letters of Requiem. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Fund, one of Diana's charities.

Diana's friends speak and write about her, wonderfully.......1998-11-14
This is one of the few very best books on Diana. Her closest friends speak or write about her not long after her death. The Clive James piece, "No", is unforgettable, as is the late poet laureate's poem 6 September 1997. This is a keeper; should be owned by all who love or admire Diana.

Fantastic.......2007-08-31
I listened to this audiobook on my commute to/from work. Even after arriving home, I actually sat in my car, in my driveway, to continue listening to it. It is a fascinating account of a beautiful, courageous person who learned to use her resources and privilege for the greater good, making the most of her (short) time on earth. If you question how she could have been the most popular and loved woman on earth (and still is), then this book will answer that for you.
What? No reviews???.......2007-02-24
I'm genuinely shocked there are no reviews to date of this double CD!
Beware of a BBC documentary! Boy, can they dig out the dirt and have absolutely no problem at all with rubbing it into the person's face forever more! I guess they couldn't (or wouldn't) do that with Diana, Princess of Wales, as this was released within months of her death.
Either way, this is an excellent audio documentary that chronicles Diana's life from birth to death and seemingly every major detail in between - from the intense media scrutiny that followed her for a good portion of her life, to the excitement leading up to the "Wedding of the Century," to the birth of her beloved sons, to her marital difficulties that the world is very familiar with by this point in time, to her well-publicized battles with depression and bulimia, and, finally, to the unprecendented outpouring of emotion in England - the depth and scale of which was never experienced in recent memory there - that followed her death (and I don't think I'm exaggerating by stating that).
I am 31 and, truth be told, I wasn't a fan of the late Princess's when she was alive. I didn't hate her, but I wasn't crazy about her, either. It was only after her sudden death that I got into her (and, no, I will never, ever forget what I was doing when I heard the news). I've since read countless books about her life and respect her for the fact that she was able to come from a broken home and, eventually, a broken marriage herself, and try to turn it into something positive by helping the people who needed it the most.
At one of the lowest points in her life (which probably would have been in the early-90s), she bravely fought against the very well coordinated palace machine that set out to destroy her by conveying to the public an image of Diana as a loony bin ready to kill herself at any moment. Through it all, though, Diana prioritized and remained a committed mother and a devotee to the charity work that, as it turned out, was one of the only sources of comfort to her (besides her beloved William and Harry).
What comes through crystal clear with this documentary is the fact that Diana was on her own when it came to the continuous press inquiries into every detail of her life. The palace staff, and the always up-to-date and in-touch Queen herself, stood by the sidelines and watched Diana with the philosophy of "sink or swim." Naturally, a young woman who's all of 19 when the press first trained their cameras on her would have had zero idea of how to handle herself with the media and would become friendly with, and even dependent on, photographers because she sure wasn't getting any help from the palace!
Some could assume this is a fluff piece on Diana designed to make money from her death, and that could very well be true to some extent. But the BBC didn't attempt to rewrite history and presented the facts as they happened and that's what makes this audio documentary a pleasure to listen to and absorb.
The two CDs run for about a total of two hours, but it's so worth the time if you want to get a better picture of Diana. (A bonus that was included with the original CD was a {very!} abbreviated copy of her pedigree.) - Donna Di Giacomo

This is a warm tribute to the late princess........1999-02-02
This is a warm and loving tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales. All facets of Diana's life are covered from the time she first blinked into the camera as teenager through her funeral services on September 6, 1997.
The photographer for this book has photographed the Royal Family for twenty-five years and has traveled in over a hundred countries throughout the world with them. The text was written by Tom Corby who has been associated with the Royal Family for about fifteen years. I possess a couple of his books.
These two - Granham and Corby - have assembled a beautiful book which is filled with beautiful and outstanding pictures. All of the pictures are in color. Corby wrote the text to acompany the pictures. This is a great book which any collector of books on the Royal Family should have in his collection. Also, it is great for one who like to read about and look at gorgeous pictures of the late, Diana, Princess of Wales.
This is a hardcover boook which contains 96 pages and measure 91/2x12 inches
Best photos of the bunch.......1997-12-11
I had the pleasure of looking through all the Diana photo books in Amazon's warehouse in Seattle. Since they do have the best selection, I am confident that this and the O'mara Diana book offer the finest quality photos of any available. Many of the others contain photos with poor lighting or low resolution.
Spiritual Role Model.......1997-12-02
I am sure Diana,Prncess of Wales did what she did because it came from her heart. Being a doctor I am hesitant to touch people with aids or leprosy or homeless people. She bridged the impossible and was Christ-like to the least of our brethren. I was in London during the funeral when we started the St Therese Centennial Pilgrimage with 40 co-American pilgrims mostly priests or nuns or holy men and women. We were touched by her life and this book said all the things I wanted to express and much more. My life will never be the same and I will be be a better doctor and individual in my service to my patients and family because of DIANA,Princess of Wales. God bless her and her sons. May she rest in PEACE! Dr. Elizabeth Tioleco-Cheng USA
The Best of the best Diana Books.......1997-10-11
This is a beautifully put together book about our Princess. It was produced by someone who she knew and let in her world to photograph the pictures that meant the most to her. The commentary is very well done and shows a loving tribute to someone who deserves to be remembered as probably the best example of goodness in human beings. A book well worth buying and owning. A must for everyone who loved and admired Diana, Princess of Wales.
A glorious, beautiful homage to the Princess of Hearts.......1997-10-04
A beautifully produced book by someone who knew her from "Shy Di" to mother, single woman and finally the concerned woman who cared about charities, from landmines to AIDS. Gorgeous photographs of her throughtout her brief glorious life. Not exploitive, but joyful.

Diana's Life In An Audible Nutshell.......1999-01-03
So unique!!! Not overly narrated, this four-sided "anthology" is a collection of speeches, stories, ceremonies and sermons spoken by Diana, her family and acquaintences; beginning with her birth and ending with her death. Besides Diana, herself, we hear from the Queen as a young woman and present-day; also, President and Mrs. Clinton, Nelson Mandella, Mother Theresa, and many others. We also hear a story from Diana's second cousin, which is humorous and interesting, but I didn't entirely understand why it was included--thus the four stars, instead of five. This collection is absolutely enjoyable to listen to over and over again and leaves the listener wanting to hear more!

HOW THE WORLD STOPPED TO MOURN HRH DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES.......2007-10-02
Yes, this book is now 10 years old. And it's been 10 years since Princess Diana died, but this book is a very vivid reminder of that horrible week following her death. That week where I, and I'm guessing millions more, stayed glued to the TV not quite believing what had happened. This book brings the chaos of that tragic time back, but gives us the most beautiful remembrences of the late princess from people she touched. People she visited at hospitals where she shined her brightest helping people.
I was hoping there would be pictures in this as well, but the picture on the cover is the way I'd like to remember her. Beautiful, happy, radiant. And really I wouldn't want to see pictures from that week anyway. It was too sad to remember it just reading about it. This book captured that one week in a tiny time capsule in a way I've never seen any book on history do. Because now that is what she is believe it or not-history.
During the 10 year memorial stuff my 5 year old niece asked who the pretty blonde woman on the TV all the time was. We told her she was a princess who was very kind to sick people and cared for others, but had died before she was born. She looked up at me and asked, "A REAL princess?" When she's older I'll gladly give her this book to show her how the entire world stopped to grieve over the most amazing woman in the world. And tell her how one ordinary person CAN change the world. Princess Diana was proof of that.
So YES! This is a book for anyone's collection!
Emotional and Moving!.......2007-08-23
I think Princess Diana was one of the most loved royal family members of England and the world and this book proves that! I felt like she connected with everyone she met. I never met her but I was in a car traveling through the streets of London once and her royal auto passed by, it seemed to glow with her warmth. Review written by the author of Bruised But Still Strong which contains a poem about Princess Di called HRH.
this is the most moving book I've ever read.......1999-09-18
at least in a very long time. I picked up the book as soon as received and had a difficult time putting it down. Its been a long time (over 2 years) since Diana's passing but this book made it feel like it was last month. All the feelings and emotions came flooding back & made me remember what a great loss this was to the world. Obviously the writers of the essays etc had very strong emotions towards Princess Diana. The feeling of love for this lady comes pouring out of each story.
One of the best Diana books i've read and ive read some!.......1998-11-17
While dozens of pictorial testimonials to Princess Diana have already appeared Requiem offers more than eighty written tributes and recollections. Dont buy this book for pictures it leaves that to others. But this 43 year old does not mind saying the tributes and recollections moved him to tears. If you are a Diana fan this book is a must have.
FORGET THE HYPE, THIS IS DIANA.......1998-08-24
THE GOSSIP AND SNIPING THAT SURROUNDED HER IN LIFE IS CUT TO THE QUICK BY THE HONESTY THAT CAME THROUGH HER DEATH. THIS BOOK PROVIDES A REALISTIC LOOK AT DIANA. A MUST HAVE FOR DIANA COLLECTORS AND DEVOTEES.
