An uplifting masterwork of comfort and compassion exploring
the ultimate questions of existence and transcendence.
Nothing has riveted humanity's interest more, nor has anything been more frightening or awe-inspiring, than the finality of death. Through his profound and personal dialogue with God, Walsch explores the process by which all human beings must end their days here on Earth and begin their new life in God's Kingdom -- to which all eventually return, regardless of their earthly deeds. An astonishing and spiritual work, Home with God offers hope, comfort, and surprising revelations for all humankind.

started off believable and became conflicting.......2007-10-20
This book began believable and very interesting and slowly became unbelievable and startling. It is not for me.
Home With God In A Life That Never Ends.......2007-10-01
This should be a MUST READ for everyone and especially for those who harbor doubts concerning what happens after death. Life is a journey and we are here to experience, nothing more and nothing less. Great Book.
An interesting read if the after-life interests you .......2007-10-01
Over the years I've read many of Mr. Walsch's books because I found the content to be inspirational or thought-provoking in several ways. I particularly liked "Conversations with God Book 1" (CwG Book 1) because it had a profound effect on my spiritual philosophy. In this book Walsch focuses primarily on the after-life, and if that is a serious interest of yours then this would be a good book to read. If not, then I'd recommend considering one of his other titles instead, such as "Friendship with God" Friendship with God: An Uncommon Dialoguefor example, or CwG Book 1 Conversations with God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1), which in my view remains the best work he has ever done.
Home with God.......2007-08-26
Great information, well written and mind opening to a new way of processing and understanding life and the transitional experience we call death.
Home is Where the God Is.......2007-08-13
I stumbled upon this book in a used bookstore, had no idea it was even out. Having enjoyed reading his CWG books, I grabbed it for a good read, but it was so much more than that. I was provoked in new ways, my beliefs du jour were challenged on every other page, I found myself writing notes till my fingers hurt...this is unusual for me as I have read ALL the books of this ilk for over 30 years and NEVER had such a response before. Since I enjoy being challenged and shaken up, it was an absolute mixture of joy and discomfort and ahas and oh ohs... If you are interested in the possibilities of what lies 'Beyond' this book gives a unique tour and I felt like I was 'there' (wherever 'there' might be!). I do not recommend this for the faint of heart or for those that are too sure in what they believe. For others it is a MUST!

This is not simply a useful and informative book about the innumerable uses for good old baking soda, saving tons of money, and in the process not harming the environment. It is also entertaining and sometimes downright funny--it would be a great gift for anyone, including yourself. I expect that Vicki Lansky had a blast putting this book together, and her enthusiasm is evident in the text.
Book Description
Baking soda gets its due in this fun collection gathered by Vicki Lansky and her readers over more than twenty years. From making an omelette extra fluffy or deodorizing those musty household smells, to improving flossing and mouth freshness or washing clay flower pots without leaving residue, the book offers hundreds of tips for making the most of this environmentally friendly and inexpensive product.

Fun!.......2007-09-10
Definitely an entertaining book, though I was actually pretty amazed what that awful-flavored powder will do! My bathrooms have never been so sparkly clean.
Great stocking stuffer sort of book. Fun for the relatives/friends that have everything.
Infinite Uses for Baking Soda.......2007-04-04
Who needs a million different products for laundry, gardening, cooking, or pet care? All you need is baking soda.
Good things come in small books..........2007-03-08
Some info is repeated from the vinegar book. Good tips, would recommend.
So much Baking Soda, so little time!.......2007-01-11
This is a great little book, full of environmentally nifty little tips. It's handy to leave on the kitchen book shelf. Timely shipping.
Home Product Pre-Pleasantville.......2007-01-10
Remember when Arm & Hammer was high on our grocery list?
Down memory lane with all the old household advise for using Baking Soda in cooking, laundry, gardening, dental care, grooming, pet care and a few new ones, for use in our vehicle, while camping, and as play projects. I'm reminded again, there really is no need to spend so many dollars on oil based products with 'grab me' names and colorful packaging. Just keeping on hand Baking Soda, vinegar, ammonia, lemon juice, peroxide and clorax - can do it all.
The book is well laid out with a cartoon on the first page of each section. Easy to read big print, lots of bullets, a dark font heading for each area of tips... Tips from making your own low acid coffee to, making dirty windows sparkle or, clean your suade skirt.
This is one book I wish each chapter included a pull-out laminated chart that I could slip into places like the laundry, medicine cabinet or kitchen drawer.
Book Description
An engaging, accessible guide to educating yourself in the classical tradition.
Surrounded by more books than ever, readers today are frequently daunted by the classics they have left unread. The Well-Educated Mind, debunking our own inferiority complexes, is a wonderful resource for anyone wishing to explore and develop the mind's capacity to read and comprehend the "greatest hits" in fiction, autobiography, history, poetry, and drama.
Far from tossing readers into the swarming sea of classics and demanding that they swim, this book offers brief, entertaining histories of five literary genres, accompanied by detailed instructions on how to read each type. The annotated lists at the close of each chapterranging from Cervantes to A. S. Byatt, Herodotus to Paul Gilroypreview recommended reading and encourage readers to make vital connections between ancient traditions and contemporary writing.
Based on the same classical method as Bauer's terrifically successful The Well-Trained Mind, The Well-Educated Mind provides not only a thorough grounding in the classics but also a widely applicable foundation for self-education.
Customer Reviews:
A must-have for deciding on your must-haves.......2007-09-08
As I went through the gambit of education all the way through my current PhD program, I read books to grasp the bare bones of what I would be tested on or what I would be required to reguritate into a scientific thesis.
Not only this book challenge and change the way I have been reading, it also gave me the tools to actually enjoy reading again.
I heartily recommend this book partnered with "1001 Books you Must Read Before You Die." If each book only takes you a week to read, then the entire list should only take you a little over 20 years.
Ready? Go!
An easy guide to serious reading.......2007-05-23
Many, many years out of college I felt my mind atrophying and decided to start a "serious" reading program, similar to the old "summer reading" that used to be done by high-school and college students. I picked up this book to use as a I guide.
Yes, many of the techniques Susan Wise Bauer talks about in the opening chapters are ones that many readers will have picked up along the way. But even experienced readers may find her suggestions of keeping a "commonplace book" or reading journal helpful and brief background explanations of the various literary genres helpful.
The very structured approach to notekeeping and journaling will probably not sit well with every reader. (I don't plan to follow all of her suggestions myself.) And many people will surely debate about the choices included on the reading lists. But Bauer is very firm about taking a book and making it your own, so disregard suggestions that don't work for you. And as she admits, no one reading list will be considered canonical by everyone. In fact, Bauer encourages the reader to use her lists as a "jumping off" point.
All in all, I think any reader who is serious about reading the great "classics" can find something in this book to help with that process.
Poor imitation of Mortimer Adler's How to Read a Book. .......2007-05-20
I read this book and learned nothing new at all. The book should be entitled: A brief overview of the simpler points of Mortimer Adler's "How to Read a Book".
The Well-Educated Mind quotes extensively from the Adler's book.
However except for the lengthy passages quoted from Adler it is not written using language that comes anywhere near to the elevated style that is a joy to read and makes the reader privy to the great mind that participated in the compilation of the "Great Books" series.
The Well-Educated mind attempts to make the ideas raised by Adler accessible by communicating a few of the ideas in the simplest of prose.
Save yourself the trouble and go to the source I say. Read Mortimer Adler!!
I even found the test that Mrs. Bauer uses to allow the reader to take stock of his reading level to be demeaning. Not only was it overly simple, but dangerous, because many of those who then embark on reading the great classics recommended by Mrs. Bauer will be ill prepared for the change in style and level of sophistication in the ideas presented.
The practical answer to "test linked education.".......2006-12-30
This books is teaches the kind of logic that I thought was lost in educational theory; finally some common sense! I was a teacher and am now planning to homeschool my grandchildren. My daughter and I have been more and more concerned about the state test-oriented text books that my grandson has been studying. This book and The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home bring order and sense to the purpose of education. Both books echo the direction and focus of the education I received in parochial school and treat the subject with logic and clarity. They both deal with an orderly development of the mind and leave me feeling confident in the program we are developing for my grandchildren based on these books. The author has a sound and orderly approach to education whether it is for a grandmother like me who never wants to stop learning or the developing mind of a child.
You'll enjoy reading even more when you learn how to do it!.......2006-12-14
I've checked this out from the library, -a few times because I want to really learn the techniques that are presented here. Its a good sized book and there is a lot of excellent information to get in your brain. I have this on my wish list to buy now because it's so good, and I want to be able to take more time with it, -to study and absorb it!
The reason I want to spend more time with this is because not only do I love to read, I also enjoy doing book reviews, and I think this book is an important tool to help me to become better at both! This is a book that will have a permanent spot in my collection because I want to have it available for my school-aged daughters as well.
SUPER book here! I can't wait to get my own copy!

Vinegar: a product for our times.......2007-09-21
This book will help us toss out expensive chemical products to acheive the same results with less harm to ourselves, our children and our environment. Use it liberally without fear. One thing, you can use a small amount of diluted vinegar as a rinse for washable silks. Silk is a protein, like your hair, both of which benefit from the acid to rebalance their ph.
Quite surprised!.......2007-09-10
I wasn't sure how well vinegar recipes would translate but was presently surprised. Aren't we all decendants from Italian in-laws? Easy read, yummy ways to incorporate vinegar into your every day life.
Throw out your other cleaners.......2007-06-02
If you want to go green this is a way to start. Vinegar does an amazing number of things to keep your house and yourself in top shape. And best of all it does not leave a lingering smell as other cleaners do. Try it.
Good things come in small books..........2007-03-08
Just moved from city water to well water, and learned how to deal with the hard water issues. As a bonus, got a lot of tips on other everyday uses. Good reference book. Would recommend.
Very interesting and informative book.......2006-12-30
Lots of information on all kinds of uses for vinegar.
We are using some of them already to good advantage.
I recommend the book if you have an interest in the subject.

"It's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, my home town…." Each week, more than four million radio listeners hear these words, and settle in for some old-fashioned, up-to-the-minute storytelling.
During live broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion, Garrison Keillor takes us to "the little town that time forgot and the decades cannot improve," where "the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average." These expertly crafted tales touch the heart and tickle the funnybone. Warm, poignant, often hilarious, each is a classic of live storytelling, full of gentle humor, genuine emotion, and (more often than not) surprising insights into family, community, love, faith, and hope.

A decent collection.......2007-10-15
...but not of my favorite stories. I fell in love with Lake Woebegone about ten years ago. I used to do a lot of driving between Georgia and Tennessee and Garrison's hilarious stories made the drive go by fast. I tried to listen to this CD several times, but I noticed that it wouldn't really hold my attention. The stories aren't bad. It's just as a collection, it didn't pop. But I'll continued to listen to his work.
Never better..........2007-07-31
I enjoyed the vignettes and thought I was going to have to resuscitate my husband because he was laughing so hard. Pure enjoyment through the eyes of Garrison Keillor.
A compilation of ten new stories.......2007-07-07
Never Better: Stories from Lake Wobegon is a compilation of ten new stories from live radio broadcasts of "A Prairie Home Companion", the popular, gently humorous show by Garrison Keillor. From the mighty effort of the girls' volleyball team to the migration of turtles to a reflection upon 2006 Christmas and how the most hardcore of traditionalists seem to be children, listening to Never Better is a truly heartwarming experience, sure to stir up fond memories of home and hearth. Highly recommended. 2 CDs, 2 1/4 hours.

Good House--Great Ideas!!.......2004-03-27
This book had so many great ideas and new ways to think about arranging and ordering your home. I really liked the way he wrote about sleeping, bathing, working, cooking, dining, and playing areas and not bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. I read this while out of town and came home and rearranged my living room. I can't stop looking at the space in my house in quite different ways. I want to move everything around based on the ideas I got from this book. It is actually a fun read too.

Title piqued your curiosity?.......2007-05-15
If you are reading this review, you have been sucked in by the title, probably because you somehow relate. If so, then the topic is of huge significance to you. The book is solid, and the content reflects the title.
Regardless of your background, if you have a Christian faith and desire to live out that faith with your children, then bring your highlighter and keep notes as you read.
Practical Help.......2007-01-12
Not everyone comes into parenting with great childhood experiences to draw from. Even if you did have a safe upbringing, ALL parents are forging a new way for their children. We are all "pioneers". This book is a wealth of information, and challenges you to re-evaluate how and why you do what you do and believe what you believe. For anyone with parents.......2006-09-12
Building The Christian Family You Never Had is a must read for every couple contemplating having children, every parent who has children, and every adult who found life with their parents difficult or confusing. Not have the right role model can be frustrating--even confusing. But thanks to DeMuth's great advice we can learn to let go of the past, foster positive parenting skills, and shield our children from the negative influences others have left on our lives and continue to drill into our psyche.
This book is a MUST READ.......2006-07-14
Mary's book is a MUST READ; not only for every parent, but also for everyone who has ever had a parent. Her insights into family dynamics are revealing and instructive. Her words bring healing and resolution. Mary's skill as a writer makes her Guide for Pioneer Parents an enjoyable, fast-moving read. But watch out - one time through will NOT be enough! You will want to keep this Guide around to read over and over.
Like Gold.......2006-07-07
Of the three excellent books of Mary's I have been priviledged to read, this is the one that has had me most riveted to each nugget of truth. I am a quick reader, and usually don't read a book twice in a year but this one has me dipping into it almost daily. I have read and re-read the chapters, blinking in the freshness as I absorbed and processed each life altering concept. It has revolutionised my way of life, the sense of who I am, how fragile we are and how Great is Our God. It has given me a glimpse of the Father heart of God and my husband and I have turned our mistaken foundation of parenting back to the example in the Word, thanks to reading this book. I am also peeling away the 'onion layers' of my own childhood.
Mary is a highly proficient messenger of the truth. Her words fly directly from the heart of the healer in my belief and I am honoured to have walked through the pages of her journey and find my own healing in that experience.
Get this book. Even if you have the most Christian upbringing possible. Especially then.
Customer Reviews:
Great writing resource!.......2007-09-26
I am a homeschooling mom of a 6 year old girl and a 9 year old boy. We just received this wonderful book by Karen Andreola and have only tried it out once so far, but I have flipped through the book and read some of the stories. There are many different kinds of wonderful stories to chose from. I did one with my 6 year old daughter and I actually walked her through the writing process instead of just letting her write, as she is so young, but I think she learned a lot from it. She asked me the very next day if we could "do another one"...and the next day. Karen has a whole section in the front on how to use the book and writing tips that are very helpful. I think this is a wonderful book and look forward to using this with my children.
You have GOT to try this book if writing is an "issue".......2007-09-05
We've been a homeschooling family from the beginning and my kids are 10 and 12 now. Teaching writing has always been a struggle for me, and the kids did not like writing at all. This book has the beginnings of very interesting stories, and the students' job is to write the ending. Each story starter also has guidelines (have the characters speak, describe the scene) suggestions for "vivid verbs", "artful adjectives" and more. My kids, who have NEVER liked writing, got so into it, I had to give them extra time to finish. The book has a section for educators that has a lot of useful information. Before I bought this book, I checked it out from the library to make sure I liked it. I ended up ordering it on Amazon before we started the second story!
excellent.......2007-05-07
We're just getting started, but our children ages 9 & 11 love this! And this concept could lead them to other activities, too.
This book was carefully thought out and well written. So far, we are all very impressed and glad we made this purchase.
fabulous!.......2007-04-01
This book is wonderful! Even my reluctant writer is having fun and producing interesting stories. We get together with 2 other children to read the stories together.
Fantastic!.......2007-01-09
I recently purchased and browsed through Story Starters by Karen Andreola. All I can say is fantastic! I could have spent hours just looking over all the fabulous antique illustrations, of which Mrs. Andreola has collected over the years. These in and of themselves would be great story starters, and there is a section of the book set aside for this purpose. But section 2, the beginning stories themselves, are wonderful! Mrs. Andreola has written over 50 stories for the children to expand upon - lively stories of alligators, floods, and shipwrecks, and character building stories of honesty, helpfulness, and patience. There is something for everyone, boy or girl, 6 or 16. These aren't only exercises in creative writing. There are grammar, literary, and narration helps along the way in this 458 page oversized softbound book. My girls and I looked through it, and they are just as excited as I to start. With my 6yo, the stories are a bit beyond her reading level, so I'll be reading her the stories and typing up her narrations of the story conclusions for her to illustrate. My 9yo will be reading the stories herself, and we'll see how she does with writing the conclusions on her own. We may go with narrations for a bit too. We'll see what works. But they are EXCITED about writing, and this is a GOOD thing. :-)

This book was really intriguing and kept you wanting more. Some people don't like the fact that this book was slow, but I liked that it gradually went along without too many clues about the ending. It moved along at a comfortable pace and had a lot of character development which has always been important to me. I also liked that it didn't really have ONE climax, but many of them, all leading up to the final part of the book where everything came to a heart stopping ending.
They Never Came Home was about two boys who went on a camping trip and never came back. It told stories of all the charicters that are all tied together in some way, even though in the beginning it looks like they have nothing to do with the others. It tells of the boys even though you don't know it. It tells the stories of both families. Lois Duncan is really good at this and I find it really interesting to read what is happening to each character at the same time and hear things from all different point of views. Simple enough plot, right? WRONG! A whole lot happens and the plot takes many twists and turns involving jewelry, drugs, betrayal, love, and mental breakdowns. But even though some of the other reviewers here think that the plot twists weren't easy to follow, I thought they were relevantly simple, but genius to think up and put together. (perhaps it was harder for them to understand because they are younger than 13. I mean it's a book for teenagers, if you aren't a teenager, then don't read it, and if you do, don't review it because there is bound to be plenty that you don't understand.) :) Sorry, had to blow off a little steam!
OK, so I won't give away any more of the plot and just tell you to READ THIS REALLY GOOD MYSTERY AND ALL THE OTHER CHILLING BOOKS BY LOIS DUNCAN!!
Great book.......2005-04-13
This is a great book! i no a lot of younger teenagers feel that its very slow and confusing.. and the truth is it is! There are questions that u ask at the end of the book but if ut hink about it.. dont all books leave u that way? This is a great book...its based on real life problems where someone goes missing and u have questions espeically if at the end they dont ever show up... This book is about two boys who go missin...and dont turn up....its a slow book but its just like real life....I strongly recomend this book to anyone!
Jack McNamara.......2005-04-05
I read other Lois Duncan books, but this one is the worst. It is about two boys who supposedly go "hiking in the woods" but never come back. This book makes know sense and it is very confusing. First of all, the reason why they go "into the woods" is because they are both involved in a drug smuggling scam and it is destroying their lives, and one of them pushes the other down. One problem, Joan (one of the boys' sister) talks to a girl named Peggy. To Joan, Peggy seems awfully familiar to her. Then, when she gets home she says "Now Joan knew where she had seen Peggy before, she was staring at her in the mirror" referring to herself! What is that supposed to mean?! Also, the ending made no sense, just read it for yourself! I don't recommend this book!
This book should never come home.......2004-05-14
This isn't the best book iv'e read or the worst. The book they never came home is by Lois Duncan and it is about two hikers that disapeered in a mountain.Their family turn frantic but they are still alive.I gve this book a three out of five.At the end you wonder if Lance is going to return for vengence and payback. It makes you wonder why she wrote this book if she can write 'I know what you did last summer but this book still deserves a good score because of the story, character, settings and events but it doesn't wow me. You can live without it because it won't change your life.
Bored to death.......2004-05-14
In my honest opinion "They never came home" by Lois Duncan is the most boring book I've ever read. It's about two boys named Dan and Larry who get lost in the mountain's and never come home. After a through search in the mountain's every one gives them up for dead, including Joan who is Dan's girlfriend and Larry's sister. Joan believes that there dead but some hints prove other wise. If you don't like to read slow and boring books don't read this one. In the beginning it is really boring and the end leaves you asking questions. By the time you get to the middle of the book you don't even care what happened to Larry and Dan.

Build your own 9mm, blowback, selective-fire submachine gun that's as powerful as an Uzi or HK MP5 but has fewer parts and is more durable. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions and machinist's drawings in this book. For academic study only.

sub machine gun.......2007-07-20
very informative, how ever I don't believe that a person with limited machinist skills would ever be able to construct one one of these. The metric system used sucks.
a refrenece book.......2007-06-02
I bout this book for a refrenece guide,so I would understand how fullauto weapons worked....
more complex than it needs to be.......2007-02-12
he has great ideas for mass underground production. other than that there are lots of usefull ideas, but better guns can be made with less work.
do it yourself submachine gun.......2006-11-10
Excellent publication very detailed and professionally presented.
The drawings are excellent.
It's all metric!.......2006-03-24
The weapon described in this book looks like it would be of great utility to own, in times of need. The drawings are clear, as are the instructions. The design was carefully worked out so that partisans could manufacture the weapon covertly, with parts distributed among many small shops, and in great quantity. And, most importantly, the steel stock used are all very common sizes of material, easily available at any steel supply house IN EUROPE! However, none of the materials called for are available in America! I love the book, however, when the Ummah forces my family into dhimmitude, I will have to die in place, since this book won't help the resistance at all.
