Book Description
Boys don't keep diariesor do they?
The launch of an exciting and innovatively illustrated new series narrated by an unforgettable kid every family can relate to
It's a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you're ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.
In book one of this debut series, Greg is happy to have Rowley, his sidekick, along for the ride. But when Rowley's star starts to rise, Greg tries to use his best friend's newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion.
Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, Just don't expect me to be all `Dear Diary' this and `Dear Diary' that. Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won't do and what he actually does are two very different things.
Since its launch in May 2004 on Funbrain.com, the Web version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has been viewed by 20 million unique online readers. This year, it is averaging 70,000 readers a day.

Couldn't put it down........2007-10-19
My son (that HATES to read) loved this book so much, he couldn't put it down. I hope there are many more to come in this type of book. It was nice because my son is overwhelmed when he reads chapter books that are thousands of words on a page, and in this book there are lots of illustrations. Who dosen't love funny stick people drawings.
Gets your child into reading!.......2007-10-19
Well let me tell you my daughter just turned 10 and was bored in reading so I looked into these reviews and into what the book was about. So I purchased it for her and she loves it,I dont even have to ask her to read before bed anymore because ths book has her attracted.Thank You for the great parental reviews my daughter is no longer bored in reading chapter books YEAH!
Funny, easy read.......2007-10-18
My nine year old son and I both read this book. I am an avid reader, he is not as of yet, but he read this book cover to cover quite quickly. He loved it!!! Parts of it were laugh out loud funny and made you want to read them out loud to anyone else in the room.
Love the Wimpy Kid.......2007-10-11
My 8 year old son bought this book from his school book fair after seeing it in the handout. It was a very popular book this year. When my son got his there were only 2 books left. So he bought it and he LOVED it!! He read it in about 3 days. He has never read a book of this size (200+ pages) on his own. He read it on the bus and came home and read it on the couch with NO TV!!! Then he read it to go to sleep. It was so cute to hear him laugh out loud while he was reading. Now he wants more Wimpy Kid books. I hope they keep 'em coming. Thanks for reading my post.
Makes kids want to read!.......2007-10-08
I purchased this book for my 12 year old daughter as something lighthearted to read on top of her expansive list of challenging novels. She finished it in an hour, laughing all the way. I started reading it to my 6 year old son -- the first few entries were hilarious! He then picked it up on his own because he couldn't wait for me to continue. He just started reading simple chapter books and I was surprised that he mowed through this in a weekend. I think the comic style and large font were unintimidating, and the text was engaging and downright funny. Although this book is about a middle schooler, even much younger kids will appreciate the humor.

The BEST Travel Diary for Kids.......2007-09-17
This is one of the best travel diaries for kids out there. There is enough space for them to write the day's activities, giving their insight without it feeling like homework. :D
Great for kids!!.......2007-08-09
My 7 year old daughter took this book on our trip to London. She had a great time every evening recording her adventures for the day and listing where she went, what she ate and what she bought. Along with our vacation photos, this will provide great memories of her first trip to London.
This trip diary was lots of fun!.......2007-01-11
When I was hunting for a journal or scrapbook for my kids to record our vacation to Walt Disney World, I hunted and hunted many stores and online and was relieved to find this book. I actually purchased this along with the Trip Tracker Journal. I really enjoyed this book and so did my kids. The Diary had lots of room, we have pages left. There was a page per day of vacation and there was a place for them to record the souveniers they purchased and the cost of them. There was a page every day for them to write about their favorite thing that day, and there was room for them to draw a picture or to put a picture on that page. My kids loved drawing their pictures! There were a few questions for them to fill in each day. This was a great end to each of our day! Now we have a great keepsake of our vacation!! If you are looking for a fun way for your kids to record a vacation, I'd recommend this to everyone!
A Future Treasure.......2006-09-04
Our three children whose ages range from 8 to 13 have filled four books each. The Trip Diary makes a great reference tool at home before the trip even begins with pages entitled "What to take along" and "Whom to send postcards to." Once this type of information is filled out it can be used over again to prepare for future trips. The fun starts when the book accompanies the child in down time such as on a long plane, train or car ride. With pencil and crayons in tow it will keep a young one occupied. The book has basic and brief prompts which is helpful compared to an ordinary lined journal, yet the amount of detail put into it depends entirely upon the child. We have even combined a few days into one or two pages. There is a perfect drawing area so the child can express what they have seen through means of a little art work. Our oldest finds it fun to download pictures from a digital camera and affix some of her own photography to the appropriate pages. There is room for a caption beneath each picture as well. Our family has encouraged use of the Kid's Trip Diary from camping trips to extended over-seas vacations. With a little help the diary can be alot of fun and most of all become a true treasure. Appreciation for their diaries will mature as the children themselves do. Afterall, who does not like to look back on vacations well spent? The Kid's Trip Diary is key to retaining such memories in the eyes of the children.
Great way for kids to record their experiences.......2001-06-09
This book is a good way for kids to keep up with their writing skills over the summer, and record a description of their summer adventure to look back on years to come. The book is compact enough to travel with, and has good prompts to help kid's think about things to write.

Customer Reviews:
Great Help.......2007-06-11
This journal was purchased as a gift for someone and they love it. I would buy it for people in the future who have just lost a loved one.
Just perfect for my little granddaughter .......2007-05-31
My granddaughter who is 3 years old suddenly lost her father (my son) in January 2007 and this little journal is going to be just perfect for her to remember him - it is even better than I expected.
Helpful, healing guide for kids.......2007-03-09
The worst part of losing a loved one is the scary thought that you'll forget them. This is a helpful aid in keeping important memories alive. Helping kids know that they can continue on...
ANGEL CATCHER FOR KIDS: A JOURNAL TO HELP YOU REMEMBER THE PERSON WHO DIED.......2005-08-24
This book is a vital resource for children aged 5-10years old. Often when there is a loss in the family, the children are usually the last persons we look to share how they are feeling about the loss. As adults we try to shelter them and not "upset" them by whispering or not talking about the loved one who died. This confuses children as they often wonder why everyone is acting so different around them. This book helps kids to put their very own feelings into words.
Must buy for a grieving child.......2004-11-29
I just bought this book and I would call it phenomonal! My kids will love using it to remember their beloved cousin. I highly recommend it to parents of kids who have lost someone close to them. It is sort of like a scrapbook with lots of room for journaling. It will be a treasure and keepsake for life.
Customer Reviews:
Great first journal.......2007-08-13
I purchased this book for my stepdaughter's 10th birthday. She is a great kid but has a few struggles with emotions and worrying related to her parents divorce. My stepdaughter is very creative so I purchased this in hopes it could be a tool to work out her feelings but also encourage her writing skills.
Great way to encourage writing.......2007-02-01
I have purchased several of these and others in the series for my children and as gifts. The artwork is interesting, the suggested topics are relevant to the age group, and it makes it more interesting than just listing what you did today. It is not dated like a daily journal, so you can use it when and how you want. I have also found that kids like these journals better than a blank book, which can be overwhelming. I wish I had this when I was a kid.
worth every penny.......2006-11-30
My daughter carries this with her everywhere and cherishes it. It makes her feel very special and I like how its laid out. Worth every penny I paid for it. I'm going to be getting a few more next year when my next oldest daughter turns 6 and for some for bday party gifts.
Got my son writing!.......2006-02-26
We're homeschoolers and my son would sooner pull his own teeth out than write. I bought him this book along with Dr. Seuss' My Book About Me. He carried them everywhere he went for weeks after the books came, writing in them in the car, in bed, at the table, at the store, etc. He was so proud of his entries he shared them with the rest of the family. It seems to have warmed him up to writing in general. I'm thrilled.
Good if You're Totally Stuck, But is That What a Journal's About?.......2005-12-06
If you truly don't know what to write about, turn to this. But other than that, I don't see why anyone would want it. To me, a journal is a place to write down your thoughts, feelings, memories, and just things you feel like writing. If you can only write about what the page you're on says to write about, what's the point? As a very wise person once told me, the only reason you should write is if there's something in your heart you need to express.
Book Description
Filled with conversation-starting questions and dialogues, this colorful keepsake brings the family together by providing a handy place to record and save the funny, wise, and precious words of childhood. Fifty diverse sets of seven thematically related interview questions and games are included. Sections encourage kids to find the words to describe the whole of their interests, personal connections with relatives and peers, perceptions of their world, and expectations for the future.
Customer Reviews:
Quality Family Time.......2004-12-24
I received this book as a gift from a teacher girlfriend. At first I was overwhelmed-it's a big book. My friend told me to trust her, pick a page (any page), gather my kids and start. I am glad I did.
I started with an interview titled "All the Senses". As an introduction, my 5 and 7 year olds and I talked about what our senses were. Then I interviewed them, writing down both of their answers to questions about their favorites smells, sounds, sensations, sights...in the same book. The kids liked having this "talking time" with me. After a few minutes, my husband, overhearing us, stopped doing the dishes and joined us so he could listen too.
In our family, the temptation is to just get things done in the evening. This book helps my husband and me spend just 10 or 20 precious minutes really talking and communicating with the kids. It's easy. It's fun and together we're creating a keepsake treasure. I recommend it to parents everywhere.

Book Description
There is an EcoJournal for each of the four seasons. A Kid's Spring EcoJournal invites kids to write about nature on pages exquisitely illustrated by Margaret Brandt. The author has included short entries from her nature journals, which express her irrepressible and unflagging delight in the natural world. Kids love to read about Trickle Creek, where deer eat the tulips and baby squirrels peek out of the squirrel house. The Spring EcoJournal is packed with nature activities for exploring spring. Kids can build a mouse house or a mole dome, raise a wild caterpillar or a leggy tadpole, make crafts with pressed wildflowers, make a track trap, build an eco-pond, plant a moonlight garden, observe wildlife from a blind, and enjoy dozens of other spring activities that teach them to love the world of nature. Based on solid science. Grades 3-up.

encourages kids to write about nature, includes activities.......2003-06-16
This book is meant to be a consumable eco-journal (aka nature notebook; nature journal or discovery journal). There is one half page of blank lines to write in. The concentration here is to write about nature and to do activities related to nature and to document those as well (rather than drawing or painting what is seen). At the bottom of that same page is the author's own dated eco-journal entry. For our inspiration, the author presents what she has written when observing nature in her own 20 acre, wooded backyard located in Pennsylvania. The author suggests that children document what they see, even a short listing such as when a tree first blooms, when an animal such as a deer is spotted, etc. Also suggested are longer descriptions and poetry. There is a whole page of ideas of what to write about from reports about a favorite animal to writing a book report on a nature book that was read.
The book begins with tips and encouragement to observe nature. The author urges us to spend time observing the same place on a regular basis (daily or weekly), so we can see the many changes that occur over short and long periods of time.
In addition to having writing space there are directions for 24 activities. Some of the activities are how to grow tadpoles indoors, making a map of a place in nature that will be visited regularly, pressing flowers and how to construct and maintain a birdhouse. The authors have a desire for children to become conversationalists and discussions of endangered species and how children can help save whales and wildflowers, among other things, is presented. I was confused by the page devoted to collecting birds' nests, as it is still illegal in America to do so, even if one is not being used presently. (Some birds deconstruct nests and use the same materials to build new nests.) A page about caring for wounded wildlife is amongst the activities.
I like this book and appreciate the easy to understand information and activities. However I prefer that a journal have more freedom, to make longer or shorter entries, more entries, and to have blank pages for drawing or sketching. For our family I have decided to use this book as a non-consumable reference book and to use a different type of blank book as an eco-journal.
There seems to be several (or many) books that provide lists and directions for nature activities. The unique thing about this book is the strong urge to have a child be an observer and writer of what is seen. This book provides the seeds to let a child open up to seeing and appreciating our natural world. To treat animals and our environment with respect and admiration is clearly a goal. There are many tips and ideas to prompt journal entries. I would say the main strong point of this book is the emphasis on stimulating a desire to create an eco-journal-the activities are secondary. You don't need to do all the activities, they are separate from the writing, however, doing them may excite the child about nature or be the basis of something to write about.
