John P. Kotter On What Leaders Really Do (Harvard Business Review Book)
ASIN: 1578512549 |
Amazon.com
The Heart of Change is the follow-up to John Kotter's enormously popular book Leading Change, in which he outlines a framework for implementing change that sidesteps many of the pitfalls common to organizations looking to turn themselves around. The essence of Kotter's message is this: the reason so many change initiatives fail is that they rely too much on "data gathering, analysis, report writing, and presentations" instead of a more creative approach aimed at grabbing the "feelings that motivate useful action." In The Heart of Change, Kotter, with the help of Dan Cohen, a partner at Deloitte Consulting, shows how his eight-step approach has worked at over 100 organizations. In just about every case, change happened because the players were led to "see" and "feel" the change. In one example, a sales representative underscores a sense of urgency to change a manufacturing process by showing a videotaped interview with an unhappy customer; in another, a purchasing manager makes his point to senior management about corporate waste by displaying on the company's boardroom table the 424 different kinds of gloves that the company had procured through different vendors at vastly different prices. Well written and loaded with real-life examples and practical advice, The Heart of Change towers over other change-management titles. Managers and employees at organizations both big and small will find much to draw from. Highly recommended. --Harry C. Edwards
Book Description
John Kotter's international bestseller Leading Change struck a powerful chord with legions of managers everywhere. It acknowledged the cynicism, pain, and fear they faced in implementing large-scale change-but also armed them with an eight-step plan of action for leaping boldly forward in a turbulent world.
Now, Kotter and coauthor Dan S. Cohen delve deeper into the subject of change to get to the heart of how change actually happens. Through compelling, real-life stories from people in the trenches, in all kinds of organizations, the authors attack the fundamental problem that underlies every major transformation: How do you go beyond simply getting your message across to truly changing people's behavior?
Based on interviews within over 100 organizations in the midst of large-scale change, The Heart of Change delivers the simple yet provocative answer to this question, forever altering the way organizations and individuals approach change. While most companies believe change happens by making people think differently, Kotter and Cohen say the key lies in making them feel differently. They introduce a new dynamic-"see-feel-change"-that fuels action by showing people potent reasons for change that spark their emotions.
Organized around the revolutionary eight-step change process introduced in Leading Change, this story-driven book shows how the best change leaders use not just reports or analysis, but gloves, video cameras, airplanes, office design, and other concrete elements to impel people toward positive action. The authors reveal how this appeal to the heart-over the mind-motivates people to overcome even daunting obstacles to change and produce breathtaking results.
For individuals in every walk of life and companies in every stage of change, this compact, no-nonsense book captures the heart-and the how-of successful change.
John P. Kotter, world-renowned expert on leadership at the Harvard Business School, is the author of many books, including the award-winning, best-selling Leading Change. Dan S. Cohen is a Principal with Deloitte Consulting LLC.

Just in Time.......2007-10-07
I read[[ASIN:0875847471 Leading Change] Change by Kotter first. This follow on is a great compliment to the first book. By using examples of the eight-step process, the authors drive home those principles. My organization is in the midst of a large change process, and I am able to identify those who are the guiding coalition and raise my own visibility by aiding them. I am also able to give useful suggestions and identify the change blockers who endanger the process, and therby, the organization.
Not as useful as "Leading Change" by Kotter.......2007-06-28
Full of anecdotes about how the principles in "Leading Change" were implemented, I found this less helpful than that book in implementing a culture change. None of the scenarios were close enough to our organization to make a meaningful impact on the management team. A good read though, illustrating Kotter's excellent roadmap to change.
Addresses an Often Forgotten Part of Management Studies---People!.......2007-05-07
In this age of data, management is still about people. This book hits that aspect square on the head. It provides a realistic 8 step process for managing change filled with examples that bring the steps to life. The book is primarily written for managers of change, but the concepts can be useful to anyone at any level of an organization that's in a state of change. (And what organizations aren't?) It can be a bit dry at times, but the stories spice it up and make it bearable. Overall excellent content.
Just what we needed!.......2006-07-15
This book hits the "heart" of what many managers miss in planning change initiatives. This helps us remember that change isn't all number and business decisions. It's the people. I was able to immediately apply some of the ideas and resteered a change initiative successfully. Now all of my supervisors are reading and learning.
Fundamentals for helping an organization undergo change successfully.......2006-04-03
This book is the textbook for how an organization can successfully lead with change. I have used the 8-step method with various organizations and successfully 'seen-felt-changed' for the better.

Customer Reviews:
Cohen's Experience Makes Field Guide Useful Addition.......2007-02-19
I have been using The Heart of Change book in my consulting practice. Dan Cohen's Field Guide adds a new dimension to the useability of the model. In this book Cohen has brought his extensive experience with Deloitte Consulting's Large Scale Change Practice to bear in delivering tacit knowledge of how successful change initiatives using the Heart of Change model really happen. There are ample insights, tips and tools. In addition he very successfully integrates the the theory behind the model with key challenges, diagnostic tools, stories to remember and other helpful resources.
Winning Principles to Practical Tools!.......2006-02-28
The Heart of Change (2002), co-authored by Kotter and Cohen, hit a chord in the marketplace because it told stories that leaders could relate to (based on the eight steps of change) about project successes and failures. Cohen's Field Guide (2005) takes those winning principles and translates them into practical tools to help monitor and measure success along each step.
As a consultant, I use these principles and tools on a regular basis to help my clients achieve lasting change. The diagnostic tools for each step are a great way to identify barriers and risks so you can bust through those barriers and mitigate risks.
If your organization is undergoing significant change, this is a book that you MUST have not only in your library but on your desk for regular use.
Making Change Real.......2006-02-08
This is a strong practical guide to organizational change. It's foundational with tools well integrated and clearly defined. Brilliant. Thanks for this practical guide.
A follow-up to the 1996 John Kotter best-sellers Leading Change.......2006-02-07
Dan S. Cohen's The Heart Of Change Field Guide: Tools And Tactics For Leading Change In Your Organization is a follow-up to the 1996 John Kotter best-sellers Leading Change, which outlined an eight-step program for organizational change which was applauded and followed by businesses around the world. Here leaders and managers receive tools and frameworks for bringing these changes to life within their own companies, teaching how to implement each step in the process and packing in checklists, commentary, tips, and practical application methods throughout. From communicating for buy-in to creating, shaping and imparting a vision for change, The Heart Of Change Field Guide takes idea and applies it to real-life situations.
Gives new meaning to the term "practical.".......2005-11-12
I was initially skeptical when this book was recommended by a coworker. But wow! The two most outstanding points are:
1.The change management insights to be gained from the real-life case studies. It's reassuring to know you're not alone in facing these challenges.
2. The dignostic tools are very helpful in identifying similar issues to be resolved in my company. Great not to be "insulted" by cookie-cutter solutions.
This is information and guidance that I can put to work immediately. Would recommend to any executive currently facing change management issues.

Book Description
In Creating Great Schools, Phillip C. Schlechty—one of the nation’s best-known experts on leadership and change in schools—offers a hands-on primer that will help arm school leaders with the tools they need to buck the system from within. Creating Great Schools shows educational leaders how they can sustain continuous innovation and improvement in order to create truly great schools. Schlechty outlines the six critical systems that define the norms and expressions of the school’s organizational culture¾recruitment and induction, knowledge transmission, power and authority, evaluation, direction, and boundaries¾and shows what it takes to lead effective systemic change in order to sustain new values and direction. The book is filled with effective strategies and offers guidelines for introducing the “disruptive innovations” that are necessary to change the fundamental norms of an educational organization and truly revitalize a school. He offers suggestions for working through the thorny issues that arise from the efforts to introduce new norms and provides school leaders with valuable insights of the critical rules, roles, and relationships in schools.
Customer Reviews:
The Last Hope for Our American Democracy.......2006-10-18
As a school principal who has been guided by the framework of Dr. Schlechty for a dozen years, I truly believe that those who roll up their sleeves and do the work in schools everyday know that to move a school "from good to great", each of these systems need to be in place. Not an "easy read" by any means, Phil Schlechty continuously causes the reader to really think about the importance of the engagement of students and staff in the design of the learning process. To become a learning organization, the values, beliefs, roles and relationships of those involved must be clearly defined at the highest level. Schools can no longer metaphorically reflect a hospital, factory or prison model to survive the next decade, much less the next century. Leadership and engagement must occur at every level of the organization, whether it be an individual school house or a school system.
Our current politicians who use the rhetoric of "no child left behind" to define schools, need to sit up and take note that it was a "free and public education for all" at the grass roots from which our democracy has been able to sustain and flourish, not one that promotes an elitest system driven by government. I recommend this book as a tool for everyone who has the passion and heart to see that our children are prepared to survive in the world in which they will live. Conversation about and the action of these six critical systems must occur throughout communities for the survival of public education itself.

(See Table of Contents.) This book gives you a "front-row seat" in following the accounts of people whose lives have been changed and whose dreams became reality by using their own inner power to change with NLP. Every reader is certain to find many topics of personal relevance. The chapter on "Personal Timelines" for example, reveals how to easily uncover our individual ways of coding time, and how this sometimes forms the basis for our life struggles, and strengths. You'll learn how gently shifting this inner coding can melt away difficulties and open up talents and gifts. Written by two of the earliest and most respected trainers in the field, the book carries an underlying attitude of heartfulness coloring the skillful guidance available here.
Customer Reviews:
I recommend this book.......2004-04-12
From my experiemce, some parts of Heart of the Mind tell how to do,and some others are inspirational and leave you some clues about how to do it.(english is my second language).
Therefore for NLP Practitioners, the clues should be exciting enough to test wether you get good grasp on NLP but not for the non practitioners.
However Heart of the Mind and Reframing helps me inspired and got rid of my asthma since I was a kid. By the way I did it myself.
My guess is Heart of the Mind is meant to tell how far NLP can do for the welness of human being and provides some steps for you to do it yourself.
I hope it is useful for you.
A practical book of NLP techniques.......2002-01-09
If I am being selfish like my past, I would not have written this review to let you know that this is such a great book for personal change. I changed instantly after following a couple of the exercises explained in the book. After going through the exercise of "Fast Phobia Method" and "Recoding Past Unpleasant Experiences", it helped me to regain much of my self-confidence back, which was results of an unpleasant past. The book would not be an easy read for non-NLPers, but the authors did try very hard to explain the "how's" and "why's" of the exercises introduced in the book. More importantly, they picked those essential NLP techniques for life change, which makes the book invaluable. Although this is an NLP book from the eighties, IMHO, it sheds more lights than many of the more contemporary ones. I fully recommend this book if you want to use NLP to improve yourself. My advice is to work through those exercises that fit you and reflect on the resulted changes.
Better than Talk Therapy.......2001-05-18
I've been facinated with NLP for years. I tried reading and learning about it from R. Bandlier's books, but found them too complicated for me at this level. Heart of the Mind was exactly what I needed. It gives practical, easy to follow instructions that I can try on myself. It has 'encouraged' me to find an NLP practicioner to work with to help me with some of the techniques.
Where's the Proof?.......1999-10-17
I taught classroom NLP for years, and I'm offended by this so-called self-help book. NLP is found by John Grinder, and in its purest form has been misused and misrepresented. Everybody claims to practice NLP as a result of Tony Robbins. This book should have focused more on the real NLP techniques. See Tony's Unlimited Power. It's much better.
Excellent "How To" Guide for NLP.......1998-11-24
Although books by Bandler & Grinder are "from the horse's mouth", this book presents a wide spectrum of applications complete with wonderfully explicit directions that virtually anyone can follow to achieve behavioral change. As a Master Practitioner of NLP, I have found this book to be a fabulous resource and frequently recommended it to clients who want to know more about Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

- Teaching concept-based in the classroom
Stirring the head, heart and soul: creating a love of learning.
Customer Reviews:
Every teacher should read this book.......2007-10-17
If you are serious about teaching for deep understanding this is perhaps the most important book you could ever read. It has influenced my teaching more than any other book I have ever read. Lynn Erickson explains how to place concepts in the centre of your lesson planning in a way which ensures that you will be planning experiences for your students that have the highest probability of helping them deepen their conceptual understanding of the world around them in a way that lends itself to generalizing and conditionalizing knowledge. Knowledge learned in this way is more likely to be transferable, and what more noble goal for teachers in the 21st century could there be than transfer. The speed of technological change and the exponential growth of information mean that our students are going to face a world that we cannot even begin to imagine. Teaching facts for their own sake should have ended years ago, but sadly is still common in our schools. Lynn Erickson is a veritable goddess when it comes to helping teachers move forward in learning to teach the thinking skills and understandings necessary for the 21st Century. If you read one book about creating curriculum for your students, make it this one.

Sadly misguided.......2007-07-22
It is wonderful that the authors are taking on a topic of real importance in the psychotherapy field. What is much less impressive is their approach, which basically harkens back to 30 years ago in the field of therapy research. The authors search for common factors in therapy (which is fine), but at the expense of recognizing the enormous value that evidence-based therapy models play. There is a reason that evidence-based models have taken the field by storm-- that is because they consistently outperform "treatment as usual" which is what most clinicians practice (i.e., making it up on the spot, depending on their whims and biases). The authors take a highly one-sided approach-- not valuing the enormous strides that have been made in the field by evidence-based treatments, and the advent of the empirical testing of them.
Scientific , useful, and readable.......2001-07-19
Based on the strong literature review, professionals in the human services field may well see an improvement in their clinical outcomes if they follow the suggestions in this book.
Not one that will you'll skip over and leave "un-read.".......2001-01-05
I found this text to be of great help. The contributing chapters and the topics covered are fantastic. The authors take therapy constructs that have always been detailed in writing styles far too thick and complex and now describes them in descriptions much easier to understand, all the better for the transfer from theory to practice. While certainly pointed at the field of therapy, this book speaks to many of the "helping" disciplines---more can be "therapeutic" by aligning with these "common factors." The authors give great review to the ingredients to effective interventions and behavior change. When I finished this book, I was left with the impression that although everyone may not be in the "therapy business" this book shows how many who "help" can now be far more involved in the positive behavior change business.
I read this with relish. A genuine "Thanks" to all those who contributed to this book. I can't say enough about it.
Challenge your thinking about doing therapy.......2000-05-25
This book challenged what I was taught to do when doing therapy. The book inspired me--made me think about new ways to view "stuck" cases. The case examples were powerful and the writing was excellent. A bit of interspersed humor made the reading interesting. I highly reccommend this book to anyone in the field of therapy. In fact, I suggest reading this book before going in to the field so that one can avoid becoming pigeon-holed into any certain formal, traditional model of therapy.

Book Description
Racial and ethnic hostility is one of the most pervasive problems the church faces. It hinders our effectiveness as one body of believers. It damages our ability to witness to and serve seekers. Why won't this problem just go away?Because it is a spiritual battle. What should our response be in a world torn apart by prejudice, hatred and fear? We must employ spiritual weapons--prayer, repentance, forgiveness. In this book Brenda Salter McNeil and Rick Richardson reveal a new model of racial reconciliation, social justice and spiritual healing that creates both individual and community transformation. Read this book if you want to learn how to

Customer Reviews:
A candid look at the real problem........2007-10-05
This is a wonderful, Christo-centric look at the issue of racial issues in the church. By recognizing that reconciliation begins with a personal relationship with Jesus, the authors avoid many of the oft-tried and oft-failed attempts at racial justice. Christ Jesus, who reconciles us to the Father, is the one who reconciles us with each other. It is candid and refreshing, a call to unity in the body challenges the stereotypes of different races. We are forced to look at ourselves as God views us, as people created to reflect his glory in our salvation through Christ. The only concern is some questionable exegesis, in which the authors draw out of the text things which I do not believe are there. But the conclusions they come to are biblical. I would suggest this book to all, and it is suitable for small group discussion.
Change from the Inside Out.......2007-07-09
Brenda Salter McNeil has written a ground-breaking book on racial reconciliation. The subtitle alone speaks volumes about the core change needed: soul change. Only when the individual is changed by the infinite love of Christ can society then even begin to be changed. Writing with wit and wisdom, experience and truth, and speaking the truth in love, "The Heart of Racial Justice" offers a stirring, practical model for positive racial change and reconciliation.
Reviewer: Bob Kellemen is the author of Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction, Soul Physicians, and Spiritual Friends.

anger is fleeting (but why is war so long?).......2007-03-06
This beautiful book should be required reading for every business student, politician, and employer in the U.S. It wouldn't hurt parents a bit to read it and work it as well. We all have occasions in our lives to exert power over someone else, and too often we act out of emotions that end up causing trouble for us, problems we never saw ahead. Chagdud Tulku's Socratic method opens our hearts as it quiets our minds. Glimpses and examples of compassionate resolutions to conflict are inspiring. I plan on giving this book to Mark Greif, a high school principal in Oregon who annually alienates students and staff at his school with his bullying, paranoid management style. The beauty of the Tulku's message is that even the karmic damage someone like Greif self-inflicts is reversible through compassion and greater awareness. Chagdud Tulku writes with a poet's insight, a spiritual mentor's heart.

The practice of peace.......2005-09-02
Regularly, I am reminded of the depth and breadth of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's genius. His project, the Bodhisattva Peace Training, is a very good example of this. Lama Shenpen has done the world a genuine service by organizing these teachings into an approachable text, and by keeping the training going for professionals and others interested in helping. Chagdud Tulku not only generated the Peace Training, but also trained lamas such as Lama Shenpen to keep his work going and to help it grow. That is practical genius, motivated by a genuine desire to be helpful.
To be quicker: the Bodhisattva Peace Training has real intelligence behind it. It's the real deal, and I believe it can be of real use to people and the planet.
Gratitude!
Practical and effective meditation exercises.......2004-10-22
"To bring forth good heart," explains Chagdud Tulku, "we must use spiritual methods. We are never too old or too young to do so. One of the key points of these teachings is that everyone can apply them." Change of Heart is a compilation of the Bodhisattva Peace Training sessions of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, a beloved Tibetan lama who passed away in 2002. Tulku's stories and analogies to teach us how to counteract old habits through meditation. The practical and effective meditation exercises increase our awareness of our connectedness and expand our capacity for love, joy, and compassion.
As Westerners, we might find it difficult to relate to some of the Buddhist concepts regarding karma, suffering, past lives, and impermanence. It's not necessary that we embrace these concepts, only that we contemplate them. The purpose of these teachings is not to impose the Buddhist beliefs upon us, but rather to provide a method for increasing outer and inner peace for all beings. It doesn't mean we need to retreat from the world or abandon our normal lifestyle. "It is a matter of bringing love, compassion, and awareness to everything we do," says Tulku. "The merit of helping others, dedicated to all beings, is boundless and becomes a powerful force for positive change. Continually contemplate impermanence and cultivate nonattachment. Practice contemplation and relaxation. Review your day, reflecting on the virtue and negativity. The point of our practice is not to have visionary or clairvoyant experiences, but to reduce mind's poisons and enhance our positive qualities. Ultimately, change is the key - to change the heart, to discover mind's true nature."
Tulku advocates a meditation technique that alternates between a state of contemplation and relaxation. "Contemplating without resting is like stirring the sediment in a pond. On the other hand, resting without contemplating is like practicing archery without a target. We cut through mental dullness and attachment to emptiness through contemplation. Then we cut our attachment to concepts by letting the mind rest.. We go back and forth, so that we are neither consumed by swirling concepts nor lost in a dull or comalike state of free thought." One of my favorite exercises is to contemplate that we have all known each other during at least one lifetime. It helps me dissipate the tension that can arise when I'm around people who are angry, prejudiced, or resentful. "There are no real strangers anywhere;" Tulku theorizes, "we have previously been intimate with every being as we have been with our own mother in this life. No matter what role someone plays now, that being has at one time been our parent."
Regarding parenting, Tulku encourages us to be sincere with our children. Young children respond well to stories that convey a lesson. And above all, he advises that "The most effective way for parents to teach their children spiritual values is to live them - to demonstrate respect, loving kindness, and compassion."
Acceptance and compassion are the foundation of effective communication and relationships. "When we work with others," Tulku reminds us that "it is most important for us to be accepting. No matter how right you may think you are, trying to impose your opinion on others is wrong."
The Western world is a self-centered society. Many people remain focused on our own well being and take little action to ensure the well being of the world community. This is manifested by our obsession with the acquisition of material goods, supersized homes, and exclusive ideologies. Tulku comments that "To be of greater benefit, we must develop equanimity, an equal regard for all beings; compassion, the wish that all suffering come to an end; love, the aspiration that all beings find both temporary and lasting happiness; and the ability to rejoice in others' good fortune. Our challenge is to let go of our judgements and biases, including the distinctions we make between victim and aggressor."
The Bodhisattva Peace Training of Chagdud Tulku is an excellent tool for cultivating inner peace and helping us removing the veil of our misperceptions. "We have a deeply ingrained habit of believing that our everyday reality - this long dream we call life - is inherently true. This is ignorance. Because we don't realize that we're dreaming, we have attachment or aversion to the different circumstances that arise. The mind is like a television's remote control," observes Tulku. If we know how to change channels, we can change the picture."
I will re-read this book many times........2004-03-06
When all the huffing and puffing won't make your life the way you would like for it to be, read Change of Heart. It will shake up your thinking about the world and those in it. Change of Heart is an outstanding book consoling readers with knowledge, instruction and inspiration for living a radiant meaningful life. The reader, looking in the rearview mirror of their past, will be able to determine how the unplowed ground of the future will be. Change of Heart is broken down into three parts along with a list of meditations.
The compiled teachings takes you on a voyage of discovering areas of yourself you had never been keenly aware of before as you stride toward spiritual freedom. The book outlines a course of instruction called Bodhisattva Peace Training, which is friendly to all faiths. The reader will find help for troubled relationships, family, workplace, community, and/or world problems and situations. Bodhisattva Peace Training "is meant to serve as a mirror with which to examine ourselves". It explains how fear, self-interest and impulse toward self-preservation attracts negative energy. The book continues on to outline and teach you how to make "good heart" the foundation of all your commitments.
Statements like "awakening good heart is like finding a precious gem in a mound of filth" and "commitment to free all beings from suffering" are simply teasers for the mound of philosophical information to be had by reading this book.
The shared conversations with Rinpoche are unforgettable and chronicles the questions about life and soul proving the more crowded life gets the more insulated people make themselves which leads to a life of boundaries rather than freedoms. As the book points out the choice is ours. It goes one to explain about karma, being in hell, and the hungry ghost realms.
I found particularly interesting the four powers of purification which are support, acknowledgment, taking responsibility, not repeating mistakes and purification. The intense and direct conversations about karma are awe inspiring and engaging. As the book states wealth and poverty are a state of mind. When you finish this book you know that something of importance is at stake - you. Change of Heart shows you how to live your life with courageous honesty. I learned a lot from this jewel of clarity and insight and will re-read it many times.

A Simple and Effective Practice for Peace.......2004-01-28
We don't all have the good fortune (karma) to meet a great Tibetan Buddhist teacher much less receive their teachings. With this book, Lama Shenpen Drolma has provided many of us with that precious opportunity. Here in straight forward terms are the basic principles we all need to understand how we can cultivate peace in our lives and in the world. After reading it front to back, I flip open the book almost daily as a practice for establishing a more contented life. This happiness is not just for me but also for all of the people that I encounter. Try it - you'll be surprised at how quickly you can make this change of heart.

SIMPLE GIFTS
In the snow-covered hills of Virginia, a young widow finds that miracles really do come in the least expected packages, in "Just Curious." "Change of Heart," set in modern-day Colorado, is the touching story of a clever twelve-year-old who plays matchmaker for his bighearted, impractical mother.
Regency London comes to life in "Miracles," the enchanting tale of a world-weary lord -- and an outrageous proposal. In "Double Exposure," a determined young woman photographs a magnificent wedding at a reclusive tycoon's Newport estate, and manages to unlock the secrets of a man's heart.

Four Heartwarming Christmas Stories : Just Curious / Miracles / Change of Heart / Double Exposure.......2007-01-10
Great book - couldn't put it down.
Nicki's heart.......2006-09-28
I only bought this book because of Judith's McNaught short on Nicholas Duville's love story, All I ever did through the piece was sigh and cuddle the book to my heart, and continued reading page after page, I cried I smiled, I felt my heart bloom with every kiss or embrace the characters had...and this is only a FICTIONAL story!! GOD! I miss Mcnaught!!! I miss her so much! So much that I want to wringe her neck for discarding the gift she had in making BEAUTIFUL historicals! she was a legend! and still is! does anybody know's what happened to her?! Honestly!
I adored her story with Nicki, Julliana was the classic Mcnaught Herione...perfection! But what I liked most about her was that she wasted no time in making things interesting, I related with Nicki so much through out the story he was always the "Friend" to the women he was interested in, interesting women on the whole seemed to back away from him and run into the arms of other men...and that was TWO books straight! good thing it didn't end there and had him star here as a hero for once! I loved him since Whitney, my love...I adore him now! the bit with Julianna excusing herself from Nicki saying "Goodafternoon,Mr....er....Deveraux." I laughed so much it was so clever to put Jude Deveraux's name in there...hehehe...
I recommend anything by Judith Mcnaught although for me I have no interest in her contemporary novels...its her historicals you should be looking out for and their the following:
-Almost Heaven
-Something Wonderful
-Once and Always
-A Kingdom Of Dreams
-Whitney, My Love
-Until you
-And lastly this book Simple Gifts (Nicki's story -Miracles-)
I'm sure your going to enjoy all of them! :)
A moment of evasion.......2005-10-09
I have bought this book to read two little novels written by J.McNaught which are not translated into french (I am French).
Despite of my very poor english, it was a very good moment of evasion and the great sense of humour of J.McNaught was still there. The stories were good but definitively too short...
Quick reads by the divas of romance!.......2005-08-12
Four quick reads that are perfect for your wait at the doctor's office or waiting at your child's sports practice.
"Just Curious" is a touching tale about a woman who is a widow and stuggling to move on with her life alone. Her boss makes her a business proposition that she can not refuse, not realizing that it will lead to true love.
Some reviewers were disappointed with "Miracles", the story of Nicki and Juliana. Nicki was such an intriguing secondary character in Whitney My Love and Until You (two of Judith McNaught's best sellers), that I can see why fans wanted him to have a longer story.
Those of you who follow the Montgomery/Taggart series written by Jude Deveraux will be interested in "Change of Heart", a story about Frank Taggart. This is a story of mature love between a struggling single mom and a wealthy businessman. Unbelievably, a young boy orchestrates the meeting of these two unlikely characters and it really is a heart-warming story.
"Double Exposure" is a prequel to Remember When written by Judith McNaught. It is Corey and Spence's story. I liked it because I was familiar with the characters. It is an interesting, if not bizarre, wedding.
These short stories may be a good way to become acquainted with these fabulous authors if you have not read any of their longer romance novels. Avid McNaught/Deveraux fans will feel right at home with them!
