Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

I love this music and the way Perlman played it. I recently bought this sheet music assuming that it is edited by Perlman since the cover page has "For Itzhak Perlman" on it and somewhere on the website says "by Itzhak Perlman". I was very disappointed to find out that the violin part was not edited, not by Perlman, not by anybody. No fingerings. No bowing. Am I missing something?

Memories of a turn-of-the-century childhood by the granddaughter of Charles Darwin

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The writer makes the reader feel superior.......2007-07-14

Four or five anecdotes save Gwen Raverat's "Period Piece" from being so sweet it gives you tummy ache. It is no surprise that this charming memoir has remained in print for nearly 60 years. It has the "Upstairs" cachet, relieved by the Whiggery of Raverat's family -- she was the daughter of Charles Darwin -- which fits comfortably with both American and English tastes now.

Raverat was born in 1885 and her childhood ended about the same time the Boer War did, so there are plenty of horses, tea parties, country house theatricals and such to appeal to the romantics. Socially, the Darwins were middle class except for the snobbery and religion. Gwen's mother excepted, who was the type of ignorant American puritan who made H.L. Mencken's fortune.

Thus, the aunts went in for prudishness (especially in front of the servants) and silly dress codes, which Raverat can play against, giving the important sense of superiority that appeals to secret snobs.

In his memoirs of English society, a generation later, Peter Medawar alleged that Americans were wrong to imagine that P.G. Wodehouse country life really existed. But it did. There are no Georgian silver cow creamers in "Period Piece," but Raverat's aunts were every bit as dotty as Bertie Wooster's.

For me the most memorable episode, because like the book as a whole it captures the confusion of childhood so well, was Raverat's understanding of J.M.W. Turner's "The Fighting Temeraire." She and her cousins thought the little black tugboat was the Temeraire.

Raverat led a sheltered childhood and young ladyhood, but on occasion the grim features of the Victorian/Wilhelminian era intruded. It is these -- brutality to a peasant servant in Hamburg, animal torture in Cambridge, the lower depths of drunkenness in the alleys around the Slade School -- that raise "Period Piece" from idle gossip to seriousness.

The book is illustrated with Raverat's line drawings, very much in the style of the slighter travel books of her time. They are not charming.

.

5 out of 5 stars a wonderful window into an amazing family.......2002-12-19

Darwin fanatics and Jane Austen fans will gobble up this delicious dessert. Written by Darwin's grandaughter (Raverat was George's daughter born too late to know her illustrious grandfather personally)PERIOD PIECE contains both a wealth of Family Stories that helps humanize the usual image of the Great Victorian Sage and some real (although often tongue-in-cheek) insights into Late-Victorian/Edwardian Society. As Raverat says in the Preface, the book doesn't really have a beginning or an end, it is easily dipped-in-to at any point & you will have to be totally lacking in a sense of humor not to come away both charmed & informed.

5 out of 5 stars Treat yourself.......2001-07-27

An absolute masterpiece of comic writing. Ms. Raverat drawings mesh perfectly with her loving, but not pious, treatment of her eccentric aunts and uncles. A deft ironist, a great memoir of late 19th century Cambridge. I promise you will force this book on everyone you love and they will thank you for it.

5 out of 5 stars All this and the Darwins too.......2000-10-22

This is a really lovely book, perfect for reading at bedtime or in the garden under the apple tree on a summer's afternoon. Gwen Raverat writes vividly with chapters by theme rather than chronologically and and gives a rounded view of her childhood experiences and the Darwin family of uncles and aunts.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific, funny stuff with the flavor of another society........1996-09-12

Wood-cut artist Gwen Raverat was associated with the Bloomsbury group, and grew up with the Keynes children in nineteenth-century Cambridge. Here, she tells the story of growing up amid the fads and fetishes not only of academic and Victorian England, but of her extremely individual family, children and grandchildren of Charles Darwin. Raverat's wood-cut illustrations are as illuminating and funny as her text.

Girlfriend.
Aunt Flo.
DoÑa Rosa.
That time of the month.
Being on the rag.
The curse.
Monthlies.
Womanly time.
George.

You might have a different name for it, but all of these words mean the same thing: your period. And the number of nicknames you can make up for your period is nothing compared to the number of ways you can feel about it.

You may wonder if you're the only girl you know who doesn't have her period. Or you may feel excited about growing up. Are you confused about what's happening inside your body? Or do you feel silly as you giggle with your mom or friends about the pamphlets you're given in school?

In these frank and often poignant new short stories, twelve stellar authors explore the anxiety and excitement of "becoming a woman." Engaging, empowering, and sometimes hilarious, these stories show us girls who couldn't be more different -- and yet ultimately reveal that, in many ways, we are all the same.

5 out of 5 stars Brought back memories..........2004-02-08

I got this book for one of the young ladies in my life, but I doubt she'll enjoy it more than I did. Much more than a collection of stories about impending womanhood, this is a collection of wonderful fiction, spun across the globe through India, Puerto Rico, dining room tables in America, horsetrails in the West... Some of the best youn adult writers (writers period) contributed to this and I'm glad to have found it. I'm sad to find only one review here. I hope parents, teachers and librarians will discover this book and give it the feedback it deserves.

5 out of 5 stars You can trust these authors to tell it like it is...or was........2003-08-31

As a mom, a volunteer who mentors girls of all ages and especially as a librarian, I have been looking for a book like this for some time. More often then not, the questions I hear are related to fear and embarrassment, issues that aren't often addressed in titles that are available in libraries and book stores. There are plenty of books on the market to describe the mechanics of menstruation but very few that openly invite conversation about the emotional side. Girls will undoubtably find at least one story they can relate to. These fictional stories are written by authors that the girls are already familiar with and anxious to read again. I'm recommending 'Period Pieces' to parents of both boys and girls. My only caution would be to evaluate the maturity of the reader before you just hand it over. It's definitely a book for everyone to read, but I would recommend parents read it too. You'll be better prepared when the questions come.

    Book Description

After the Civil War ended in April 1865, the country needed to rebuild itself. Yet putting the country back together was not a simple task: Too much blood had been shed and too much hatred lingered between the North and the South. Many questions remained: How could the loyalty of former Confederates be assured? What would become of the thousands of freed slaves? Though President Abraham Lincoln had prepared plans for the restoration of the country, he was assassinated before he could begin them.

Rebuilding a Nation: Picking Up the Pieces tells the story of a period of great change for the United States. Discover the impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson and its roots in his disagreements with Congress about Reconstruction. Explore the three constitutional amendments that became law during this period, giving all Americans new rights. Meet the African American men who were elected during Reconstruction, as well as Booker T. Washington, who, as a freedman, was able to realize his dreams of getting an education.

    4 out of 5 stars Tears? I don't think so........2004-12-24

James Dickerson says in his introduction that 'I defy you to read parts of this intimate story without shedding a tear or two.' Anybody who would shed a tear for the life of 'poor' Faith has got to have their priorities screwed up.
The biography, as written is interesting....the fact that she was adopted, her 'bratty' teenage years, her first teenage love, her immature first marriage, her 'almost' marriage and her wedding to Tim McGraw.
Other than her marrying Tim her life has been pretty ordinary and could be compared to anybody reaching adulthood. What sets Faith apart is her god-given talents which is why she is where she is today. I believe the book itself is more interesting when Dickerson discusses the Music Industry (read politics) in Nashville...What makes up a Country song and what does not...The amount of work and variations behind a recording...The interrelationships between the artists. This is where the book shines.
Shed a tear for Faith's millions? I don't think so.

2 out of 5 stars Don't Place Any Faith In This Book.......2003-02-03

As a fan of Faith Hill's music, I wanted to probe the exterior of her career and delve into the beginnings of her success. Reading more like a book report, this text does an adequate job of summarizing Faith's life up to the debut of her album Breathe. That's about as far as I'll go. I think the book really suffered on three fronts: 1) there were no interviews between Faith and author James Dickerson. If Dickerson had conducted those interviews (he cites past interviews with Faith and other journalists), he would have established his credibility. This is the biggest problem I have with this book--Dickerson just wrote a 150-page report; 2) The resources used and way Dickerson presented Faith's life seemed storybook-like. Although it does mention them, this book does a poor job at probing how Faith's roadblocks ultimately shape her course to success; 3) this is only a minor criticism, but for me, the writing was too simplistic and didn't really challenge me at all. A celebrity biography isn't supposed to have the same flow as a presidential bio, for example, but the writing could have certainly been cleaned up to make it a little more interesting.
If you're interested in Faith Hill's life, leave the book at the library and watch Faith's feature on the Biography channel. It goes quicker and is more entertaining.

3 out of 5 stars Rare gift of poise and style.......2002-07-25

Out of curiousity, I purchase this book written about Faith Hill, because after enjoying listening to her songs for eight years; and more recently my six young cousins whom are struck by her glamorous beauty. I, however, never saw Faith Hill as beautiful; instead I found her music to be felt rather than heard, and its subtle suggestions of melodic beauty and rhythmic patterns are perceptive. Faith has a conscience. Her music has a heart and soul that I admire.
Why? What's so special about Faith Hill? Why this lady with the very succesful music career? What is there about this sweet southern lady that is such a demand for? Surely, there are girls more extraordinary-looking, prettier, smarter, style, more sophisticated, I've attended a girls' school, and they were many? Absolutely, but the world doesn't know them. The bottom line: Faith has a face that is instantly understood and instantly appealing, right across the board, rich, poor, young, old, male, female, everybody loves her. It's part of our national mythology: The All-American Beautiful Blond Dream Girl. My great-grandfather had it. My grandparents had it. My father had it. In the forties, Anita Colby had it. Grace Kelly had it in the fifties. Kim Alexis had it in the eighties. Faith has it now.
That elusive, fabulous, sublime quality known as charisma! Her enthusiasm for life and people, her ability to make others feel excited and alive, and her exquisite sensitivity that make her popular, her successful, and forceful in work and relationships. She gives off radiance. Her account of finding her biological parents with her family's blessings is a happy inspiration of her courage. Many adopted children might not want to find their biological lineage for fear of the unknown.
Having ones personal life story written is intrusive. Yet, in this story about Faith without writing about her private life is a story that expresses the old adage that nothing is impossible. That with alot of hard work, determination, and luck your dreams can come true.

Gwen Raverat, the granddaughter of Charles Darwin, described Period Piece, her classic memoir of an English childhood in the late 19th century, as a drawing of the world when I was young. The observations of the small incidents in her life, recorded here both in pen portraits and line drawings, reveal an artist s careful eye. Vividly evoking a bygone era, it is a shrewd, touching and comic portrait of her childhood, her eccentric relations and of Cambridge society and university. Since she was renowned as a book illustrator, it is not surprising that her line drawings for Period Piece are a masterpiece of controlled wit and charm all on their own.

3 out of 5 stars Mistake on page 18.......2005-09-04

This book has interesting ideas, but it is not for people who are just beginners. Please note that there is a mistake on page 18 in the pattern for the Civil War Star Wallhanging. Piece "C" is listed as being from the "print" fabric, but some "C" pieces are print, and some "C" pieces are muslin. I learned this the hard way!
