Book Description
With candor and insight, Tony Campolo passionately hits on hot button issues that impact the Christian life, including how to: protect yourself from technology without becoming Amish; have a devotional life without becoming a monk, and figure out the will of God without hearing voices from Heaven.

Amazing Insight.......2007-01-09
For all those folks who are tried of the garbage that relgious dogma spouts, Campolo gives a fresh look at subjects that have deep meaning for the individual and give practical application for the life of the individual and the church. It is a great look at cultural Christianity and its flaws.
Interesting thoughts on accepted behaviors.......2002-12-12
Mr. Campolo did a decent job with this book. It is a generally thought-provoking and insightful look into accepted Christian behaviors and attitudes. Perfect for book studies, the chapters are easy to discuss out of sequence and are great for one-hour sessions!
Tony.......2002-05-10
This guy seems to have implied that he authored the Shel Silverstein poem "Listen to the Musn'ts" in one of his lectures to a youth event. That's the way it seemed to me.
Nontheless he stands out as a moderate in a sea of right-wing fundamentalists. I credit him with that much.
"We've met the enemy and they are partly right" was a great book.
A Must Read for Christians.......2000-08-08
I can't imagine any Christian reading this book and not feeling challenged. Campolo does a great job of pointing out the many things that Christians do that almost certainly embarrass God, but he doesn't stop there. Along with showing some ways Christians probably shouldn't act, he gives some very practical guidelines for how we should act. It hits a little close to home sometimes, but who said we're supposed to be comfortable all the time?
This book will give you freedom to be a real Christian!.......1999-10-04
This is one of the most straight forward, honest, real looks at the church, christianity and life I have ever read. It made me laugh, cry, and review my perspectives on life.
Book Description
What if “evangelism” meant just being yourself?
If the gospel really is good news, why do most Christians avoid evangelism? Why is “witnessing” often a negative experience, for both the sender and receiver? Wouldn’t it be great if you could communicate the good news without having to become a spiritual salesperson?
What if…
·you didn’t have to make a speech in order to “witness”?
·you could use everyday experiences to nudge others closer to Jesus?
·the things you’re already doing counted as evangelism?
Evangelism can be as normal as asking great questions and paying attention to the people Jesus misses most. It involves doing things you already do, but with a little more intentionality. Just by being yourself and becoming unusually interested in others, you can discover that people will ask you about Jesus.
This isn’t another program or pitch. It’s a handbook on how to make real connections with the people formerly known as lost.
Think of it as evangelism for the rest of us.

Transformational.......2006-11-24
Written by one of the few guys who "gets it." He also "lives it" and is dedicated to infecting those around him with the same. Read this book. Give it to a friend as a gift. The truth can be dangerously transformative.
where is the rest of the story?.......2005-12-15
I agree that Jim Henderson presents a likeable, ordinary, friendly, compassionate, loving, meeting needs, accessible Jesus. All of the things he shares are fine and wonderful attributes that everyone including Christians, should be demonstrating in this world. My question: what happened to Jesus - WHY did He go to the Cross? What happened after that? What is the message of the Cross if being a nice, friendly, accessible, ordinary guy is all there is? Maybe Jim Henderson gets around to all that in his ministry, but he did not let me know anything about that in his book. Where is the rest of the story? I am still waiting.
A challenging and encouraging view of evangelism.......2005-10-01
Some types of evangelism techniques have gotten a bad rap because they use a blend of aggressiveness and fear tactics to try to convert someone to their own beliefs. As a result, some Christians are weary of evangelism all together. But Jim Henderson breathes life and hope into the idea of fulfilling the Great Commission for even the most timid believer in his new book, a.k.a. "LOST", which argues that evangelism can be as normal as asking questions, listening to people and being responsive to their needs.
Henderson's approach to evangelism is as simple as a-b-c and 1-2-3. He doesn't believe in looking at people who aren't Christians as "lost" but prefers the term "missing persons." This may seem like semantics, but it represents a larger paradigm shift in the way people are approached. No longer is it our duty to "save" people, but rather to recognize them as individuals God is passionately pursuing. This helps erase any sense of superiority and invites Christians to partner with God to nudge others toward a real relationship with Jesus.
He writes, "When it comes to evangelism, we can be our ordinary selves, and it turns out to be good enough. It turns out that all Jesus needs are the five loaves and two fish of our lives --- something we already have. Rather than trying to escape the ordinary, we should exploit it and attempt something small for God, something ordinary."
The style of evangelism that Henderson encourages is refreshingly simple and literally anyone can do it. He encourages readers to develop "the art of noticing" by simply reflecting on the people in their lives and celebrating moments with them. He suggests asking questions about faith and spirituality and listening to people's answers --- without trying to share your own beliefs right off the bat. He encourages small talk, avoiding Christian clichés and saying "Wow" when you don't know what else to say. For some, that may seem like common sense 101, but Henderson is somehow able to communicate these basic truths with a contagious sense of compassion and love.
The book itself is dotted with stories of everyday people who are impacting their world one conversation and one day at a time. Most of these stories don't end with the dramatic convert falling on their knees and becoming a Christian. Rather they demonstrate people coming one click closer to a relationship with their redeemer. For those weary of traditional evangelism approaches, the message is both freeing and compelling.
With chapters including "Boldness Is Overrated," "Do What's Doable" and "Out of Religion and Into Reality," readers get the sense that even the biggest scaredy cat can be brave when it comes to sharing their faith. Each chapter ends with a section on "Attempting the Ordinary," which provides very practical ideas on how to live out the message of the book.
Overall, a.k.a "LOST" is a refreshing read. The book moves forward at a comfortable, conversational pace. If the idea of evangelism leaves you shaking in your boots, you'll find yourself both encouraged and challenged by this book.
(...)
Finally... .......2005-07-20
Way to go Jim Henderson for finally affirming that it all counts! Evangelism isn't the sealing the deal, its being part of the process God has an individual on. Thanks for challenging my thoughts and making me laugh with your stories. This is THE BOOK I'm encouraging leaders in ministry to read.
A word from one of 'the missing'.......2005-07-03
I read this book both as a librarian and as an individual, so my review has two components. First, the review a librarian would write for library book selection:
This slim volume is designed to help Christians reach out to
non-church goers in ways that are comfortable and genuine. Written by Jim
Henderson, the director of a unique Christian organization called Off the
Map, the book emphasizes the effectiveness of small acts of kindness and
reaching out through listening. The text includes scriptural references and
also guides readers to other useful books. All historical and supportive
materials are footnoted. Strongly recommended for church libraries, and
public libraries where the community includes a strong Christian component.
And my personal reaction to a.k.a. Lost:
This book may have been written to encourage Christian outreach, but everyone should read it. Really--if we all model this behavior in our daily living, and listen to each other with true interest, offer each other small acts of kindness and provide community wherever possible as Jim Henderson advocates, we will improve our own lives and the lives we touch. Our society has moved beyond the caring interest of the neighborhood or the village, and we are suffering for it. I recommend this book enthusiastically, and I believe I qualify as one of Henderson's 'missing."

""The Only Living Witness" towers over the rest of the Ted Bundy bookshelf . . . (as) a monument to book-length journalism" (Jack Olsen, author of "The Misbegotten Son"). "A shining example of excellent reporting, fine writing, and a story of enduring value."--Carlton Stowers, author of "Careless Whispers."

Book.......2007-09-22
This is a strong book that always keeps yo guessing and on the edge of your seat. I think that this author writes some nice pieces of written masterpiece! I will be buying more!
Good book, bad edition........2007-02-11
This is an excellent book, by a pair of thoughtful and talented authors with genuine first-hand knowledge of one of the most terrifying human beings ever to walk the planet. Their account of the life, crimes and psychopathology of Ted Bundy is certainly among the best of the many written. The only reason I gave this edition (the paperback) 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's full of annoying typos! There are mis-spellings, mis-prints and lapses in tense consistency which are really pretty ridiculous in this day and age. These are the type of thing that the most basic word-processing software picks up and they kind of jolt you out of the narrative and spoil your enjoyment from time to time. The publishers could simply have done a better job.
Chilling epic on a deranged individual.......2006-12-24
Studying criminals and crime is one thing... Being exposed to the mind and life story of a serial sex murderer is entirely different. You may watch a horror movie and see the special effects of a person being chopped to pieces. You may also see an episode of a crime show depicting the horror of an innocent woman being kidnapped and raped. But the mental images a reader receives when reading about the horror Ted Bundy reaped across the United States in the 70s is astonishing and chilling. It is very easy to see why a nation was scared to leave their house, walk down a dark alley or wonder if their daughter made if home okay from the library at your local college. This book tells all of Ted Bundy's life from his childhood all the way to old sparky. The author writes this book after much in depth research, not to mention countless first hand interviews with the most notorious serial killer of all time himself. A must read for anyone curious about the deranged killer.
In His Own Words........2006-06-06
Many books have been written about Ted Bundy and none are better known that Ann Rule's "Stranger Beside Me". While the author of this book refuses to mention Rule by name, the story in this book is much the same. Michaud's book does however go a step further than Rule in "The Only Living Witness."
Thirty females died at the hands of Ted Bundy. The stories of the murders are told largely the same in any credible book about the subject. The interviews with Bundy set this book apart. The interesting part of the interviews is that Bundy refuses to admit guilt. However, Bundy does tell how he believes the killings happened through a third person account. In almost a bi-polar reality, Bundy does confess through these interviews. The author varies the chronological order of events early in the book, but stays on a straight course after the initial chapters. If you acquire a newer printing of the book, you will also be able to read about Bundy's final days and admission to his crimes in his own words, without disguise of a third person account.
There were aspects of this book that I like better than other books about Ted Bundy. Yet there was no part of this book that sets it out as the definitive Ted Bundy book. Still, it is a very well written and well researched book.
Where has this book been?.......2006-04-24
"The Only Living Witness" has been around for awhile. How could I not know? Yeah, I loved Ann Rule's "The Stranger Beside Me," and this is even more interesting! It is amazing to hear Bundy's own words - to get an insight into his mania - and to watch as he denies denies denies only to ultimately try to come clean in hopes of living a few more months. The Stephen G. Michaud writes wonderfully - a high priority for me. As a writer, he obviously isn't "talking down" to his reader. This is definitaly worth buying...going to check out his other books now!

What happens to your faith at work? Do you struggle to live for Jesus while earning a paycheck?
The truth is, when you go to work, you don’t have to check your faith at the door. Successful businessman Regi Campbell shows how your witness and your example can make a huge difference in your workplace and impact lives for eternity.
God is calling you to more than what’s in your job description. Your peers need it. Your Father requires it. It’s His business and only you can accomplish it.
â Doable â
Story Behind the Book
âI’m a business guy who committed his life to Jesus Christ in my early thirties. As a brand-new, fired-up believer, I wanted to make a difference for God, but business was all I really knew. I did what most new Christians doâplugged into a church, joined a Bible study, and started family devotions. But the office was still an enigma: a place where I felt no purpose, a place where I was just serving my time. I felt thwarted and stalled from doing anything for God there. I’m thankful the Lord showed me that the marketplace is where I am supposed to be. Even more, He has shown me some useful ways to think about the people I work with...and to help them move toward Jesus Christ. I wrote this book to share the road map that has made workplace evangelism and discipleship doable for me.â

Get ready to be convicted.......2006-11-10
This is the best guide I have ever read to helping you understand personal evangelism and to putting it to work.
More than a typical Christian Book.......2005-12-16
About My Father's Business is more than a Typical Christian book. It is a discussion of the calling and the lifestyle of "making disciples". As a result it makes the reader deal with issues of our heart like "How much do I really love the people around me?" and "What are the core motivations of my life?". Seeing this book as another book about workplace evangelism is a superficial reading of a book that calls out to much, much more. Campbell's setting is mostly the workplace becasue that is where his experience lies. About My Father's Business is a profoundly challenging book for Christians ready to expand beyond knowing more to following Christ. Letting this book seep into your life will challenge you in new and fresh ways to live in daily dependence on the guidance of the Spirit and to live sacrifically out of the overflowing gratitude in your heart.
great evangelistic tool!.......2005-12-14
This book includes an incredible tool for evangelism called the IMAP. It lined up perfectly with a passion for evangelism God was birthing in me, and as a result it's been one of the most impactful tools I've ever come across. It's helped me see the areas where I'm weak, it's given me consistency in keeping in touch with people, and it's given me vision for what to pray for them for. As I've had a desire growing again to have my time on this planet be all about personal ministry, this has been possibly the most effective tool I've come across to help me do that.
really refocuses you on what Christianity is all about.......2005-08-18
It seems to me that today's mainstream evangelical Christianity is guilty of putting too much importance on what people SAY they believe, rather than placing importance on what beliefs actually have meaning in people's lives. About My Father's Business, written in an easy-to-grasp style and in terms that members of most evangelical churches will be comfortable with, urges us to return to the essence of Christianity. Campbell explains that as Christians we should focus on loving and building relationships with others (NOT just getting them to believe what we believe.) This is exactly the attitude that many churches (including my own) need to adopt in order to create a positive influence in today's society.
Go ahead and buy multiple copies, (if you have the $) because you will want your Christian friends to have this book too.
Take this one step toward workplace spritual leadership.......2005-08-06
I saw this book for the first time at PromiseKeepers and was interested as soon as I cracked the cover. Campbell does an excellent job of explaining his thoughts about bringing Christ to work and walks the reader through the thought process. For most the thought of "evangelizing" at work sends shudders down the spine, but Campbell shows that it doesn't have to be as scary as many of us view it. His approach of meeting co-workers where they are and giving them what they need is refreshing, and is far more akin to wading into the shallow end of the pool than jumping into the deep end blind-folded. This book has helped move me on a path to increased comfort in spiritual leadership in the workplace. A must read for those who struggle with how to keep from checking Christ at the doorstep to work.

Practical, Profound, Purpose-full!.......2000-07-03
I found this book to be richly rewarding in helping me to develop a personal, practical Christian approach to reach out and begin caring about the lives of people in my neighborhood. I tend to be shy, especially when called upon to give personal testimony, and many times when I felt the urge to speak forth, I hesitated and retreated. Reading 'The Lighthouse Movement Handbook' cleared a path and helped me to focus on the true purpose of being a Light and carrying the message of hope through - praying, caring, sharing. This is the BEST resource I have found to date for the 21st century Christian interested in revival and personal renewal. ginger@saber.net

Cherie L. Arnold.......2007-04-09
read this book years ago and then gave back to the friend who loaned it to me. I recently have been thinking about the story and wanted to purchase it for me and to share with others. It was a very strong, inspiring story of a woman and the power of God. I recommend it to everyone
I couldn't put this book down until I finished it.......2006-08-25
Of all the "Angel" and "Out of Body Experiences" books I have read, "Murdered Heiress, Living Witness" is one of the best. (Only a few are better, and you may look at all my reviews to see these.)
I read Dr. Wagner's book many years ago, and it was one of those books you just have to read all in one setting!
I have also read the Bible from cover-to-cover, and I am not easily fooled when it comes to theological claims, so when Dr. Wagner makes the claim that God told her of the three baptisms, I was impressed. She said (on page 172) that God told her that a person is baptized once for salvation, once in water baptism and then "the baptism in the Holy Spirit, conducted by Jesus Himself as the Baptizer."
As a student of the Bible, I knew the water baptism was an outward witness to our marriage to the lamb, much as a ring is a witness to a marriage to a person, and I knew of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but I had never considered a "baptism into salvation," yet this rings true.
One thing that comes to mind is: How did this woman escape from the hospital where they were holding her if she were lying about getting some help from God? No one to date has put forth evidence that she was lying about how tight the security was at the Texas mental hospital.
Yes, Dr. Petti Wagner, herself a psychiatrist, is being held in a mental facility, but after reading this book , I do not think she was crazy at all. (She included photos, documents, and many details. One photo is of her with the former President, George H.W. Bush, Sr., back in 1971 and before he served as VP under Reagan. Both Bush and Dr. Wagner are from Texas.)
Besides being a successful, well-educated business woman, she is a believable witness.
Dr. Wagner claims that God the Father, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit all three appear to her to help her deal with her illegal imprisonment.
I have been reluctant to even write an Amazon books review on this book, because I did not feel I could do justice to this great book, like I did on the other (better) reviews I wrote, but I feel an obligation to testify to others who might buy this book: It is only one of three books of this nature I consider a "classic": The other two are "Angels on Assignment" by Roland H. Buck, as told to Charles and Frances Hunter -and "The Beautiful Side of Evil" by Johanna Michaelson and forwarded by Hal Lindsay.
Before anyone gets turned off by any negative name recognition by Hal Lindsay, let me point out that Michaelson's book, like Wagner's and Buck's, has solid Biblical support. (Michaelson, who was visited by demons, posing as holy angels, gives five Biblical methods to "try the spirits" to see an angel (or a so-called "prophet") really is from God: 1. Does the angel's specific testimony acknowledge Jesus as Lord? 2. If it's a person, is the general testimony of their life one of righteousness? 3. Did the specific prophecy come to pass? 4. Is the general prophecy a method permitted by God, that is, did the "prophet" use a forbidden witchcraft method to call up the spirit, or did it appear in one of the permitted ways, such as a vision? 5. Is there a testimony of the Holy Spirit, a gut feeling, so to speak? And, Rev. Buck, who claims he was visited by angels of God, makes two predictions that come true: Right before he died in 1979, Buck predicted the pope just elected would be very influential, and this has come true; He also rightly predicted concerning the message he himself was given about the angels being made worldwide.)
Wagner tells (on page 83) that God asked her to forgive a man who had just died and was on his way to Hell. She asked God what good that would do him, where he was going. God told her that it was necessary for her to prevent bitterness from taking root in her heart. That hearkens to Mark 11:25, which says to simply forgive, when praying, not merely as you want to be forgiven, but simply forgive -probably one of the hardest scriptures to follow, but one that brings healing and peace.
Well, I can't do justice to this book, but I do highly recommend it.
After all these yeares.......2003-10-01
Many years ago - probably around 15 or so, I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Wagner tell her story in person. I was only a young teenager or so at the time. I don't even remember if I read the book before or after seeing her, but I do remember that ever since then, I have never forgotten this magnificient woman's story.
I wouldn't hesitate getting this book for friends or family members as a gift - some might consider it unusual or inappropriate, but it might just change someone's life!
God is amazing!.......2001-05-15
I just read the Chinese version, and I just spent about 3 and a half hours to finish this book in the midnight. I just don't want to go to sleep before finish it, it is such a great testimoney!
Why Doesn't This Book Have More Exposure.......2001-05-04
Okay. This book by Petti Wagner is what the hottest fiction is made of. The intrigue, action and wacko plot is just what people clamor for.
After all, I have yet to read a fiction or sci fi story about a very wealthy woman who is an heiress to a fortune of a company that is a household name.
A story about this heiress arising to greatness and accomplishment that most of us only dream of.
A story about this heiress with numerous inventions and successful businesses to her credit with everything going her way.
Until some of her employees decide to take it for themselves.
So they torture and murder her.
But what they did not expect is that she comes back from the dead to bring restitution on them!!!!!
Have YOU ever read a fiction book like that?
Well, if you read this one, you still will not have. You see, this book is TRUE!!!!!
We have friends that know the pastor that wrote the forward of this book in Texas. He has since passed away- John Osteen- but if he endorsed this book, it is genuine and true.
I first heard Petti's story in a radio interview and was laughing so hard at the wacky details that I just HAD to get the book. Such a crazy story HAD to be true. Not even the greatest fiction writers have created such a fascinating and interesting story.
Get this book and read it. You will want to read it again. It is just too amazing to put down. It is an easy book to read. Lots of action and keeps your attention. ....
This book should be on the best sellers list. A story like this DESERVES recognition.
Book Description
A public talk titled "The World Has Ended; Millions Now Living May Never Die" was first delivered on February 24, 1918 in Los Angeles, California. Five weeks later, on March 31, 1918 the title was changed to indicate absolute certainty: "The World Has Ended; Millions Now Living Will Never Die." The public talk continued to be delivered under that same title until 1925. The material was published as this book in 1920. This book may be of interest to students of human psychology and students of religious movements, particularly millennialist apocalyptic, "prophetic" religious movements. It is now republished in a larger, easy-to-read format for purposes of research, scholarship, teaching, news reporting, commentary or criticism. With the exception of the rear cover, every page is a photographically enlarged duplicate of the original publication. Once hard to find, this reprinting makes this historic book available at a reasonable price.

Ha Ha Ha.......2006-11-02
It's so funny. A hilarious book you just can't put down. Why? Because they were actually serious. It is the Plan 9 From Outer Space of the book world.
So called proof the world was going to end soon and everyone reading that book new (In the 1920s) would live to see the end of the world. Of course the generation old enough to read that book is well past their 90s and mostly dead.
I Do Not Exist..........2005-11-10
...At least not according to Joseph F. Rutherford, second president of the Jehovah's Witnesses, as they would come to be called in 1931. And that's why this fascimile edition of "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" is such an important evidentuary for anyone who engages in discussions with Witnesses.
So often, it is nearly impossible to get a Witness to look at anything that does not come from the Watchtower Society itself. This book makes it possible to easily demonstrate from the organisations own text, to those with whom we talk with, that the Society most assuredly has falsely predicted the end of the world--and set specific dates for it's demise.
As with other reprints produced for the mass-market by Mr. Natas, this fascimile edition of "Millions" features bright, enlarged print nearly three times that of the original for very easy reading (although, Rutherford's laborious, blustery rambling remains intact...) and reference, and wide margins ideal for annotations and cross-references to other works. A Perfect-Bound cover featuring a fascimile illustration of the original title page makes this volume both light-weight, durable and easily portable.
At this price, this is one piece of historic Watchtower propaganda that should be added to every library collection.
The proof that the world will end in 1925.......2005-06-24
The Watch Tower Bible and Track Society, Inc had some discouraging times for any business during the second decade of the 1900's. The predictions for the year 1914 that the corporation had been printing since Charles Russell helped Nelson Barbour publish the book Three Worlds, in 1877, had passed unfulfilled. Charles Russell had died in 1916. The followers of the group split after the book titled The Finished Mystery was printed without approval or input of the directors appointed by Charles Russell. The surviving group needed a new challenge.
Millions Now Living Will Never Die, provided that challenge. First delivered as a talk and then published in print, the book was a success . . . until it's bold predictions for 1925 also passed.
Rutherford claims in the book that the world had "legally" ended in 1914 and that millions of people then living would never die. The new date for it all is 1925. He writes his thesis like a legal brief. He presented his case as a claim, he presented evidence, he challenged the clergy, he insulted big business and wall street, and he laid out his prediction for serial miracles in 1925.
I obtained my personal original copy from a man who's father had bought an original copy from door to door book sales people in the 1920's and joined them after reading it.
The reprint copy of Millions Now Living Will Never Die is a very high quality copy. It's better than my original and easier to read due to the large print format. I appreciated reading the "Bible Citations in Substantiation" compiled by Clayton Woodworth in readable print size. The reprint is nice looking, affordable, and a valuable aid to anyone interested in the Rutherford era of the Bible Student movement. I highly recommend it. Gary Busselman
Suppressed Book is Resurrected.......2005-06-20
As a cult survivor I found this book to be a fascinating illustration of how these groups alter their teachings in order to survive and then hide these changes from their followers. Members of the Jehovah's Witness cult may look somewhat normal but their lives are manipulated by a small elite leadership known as the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. This group teaches that the end of the world is imminent and the only way to survive this brutal apocalypse is to adhere to the leadership's detailed rules and regulations. However, this group has been announcing the end of the world for more than a hundred years and each date it has predicted has passed without the prophesied end. Because its earlier books contain these failed predictions the Watchtower Society has suppressed them, to keep its current followers in the dark about its own fallibility.
This book is one those that the Watchtower Society has tried to bury forever because it contains the failed predictions and doctrines from which this group has now back pedaled. The very existence of this book, now available in this excellent and bargain priced reprint, demonstrates that this is a religion of lies whose leaders issue these predictions just to keep their members in fear of their lives in the always looming destruction of the world. I was very pleased to find that this book still exists and if you are interested in the history and hypocrisy of cults that mutate their beliefs to suit the current moment and keep their followers ignorant it is a must read.
An Apocalyptic Cult Classic!.......2005-05-20
Apocalyptic cults need an apocalypse, and they need for it to be imminent - not too close, but certainly not too far away.
When the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) first published this screed, it was offered for consumption as the guaranteed Word Of God. Years later, when the predictions failed to come to pass, the Watchtower Society blamed the overactive imaginations of their readers for any misunderstandings.
Which was it? Did "Judge" J. F. Rutherford speak God's truth or not? Did 1925 mark the beginning of a "great jubilee" on earth? Did 1925 witness the "return" of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old?
Anyone interested in what the Jehovah's Witnesses are teaching TODAY owe it to themselves and their loved ones to examine what the WTB&TS was teaching in the past. There are times when past performance is an indicator of likely future results.
Book Description
Marshall Meyer, who died at age 64 in 1993, was a human rights leader and a powerful voice for justice. People flocked to hear him in Argentina, where he served as a rabbi for twenty-five years. In the mid-1980's, he became the spiritual leader of the fastest growing Jewish congregation in the U.S., Congregation B'Nai Jeshurun. People like Sam Freedman, Richard Bernstein, and Jan Hoffman of the New York Times are members. Harvey Cox, Elie Wiesel, and William Sloan Coffin were close friends. After the rabbi's untimely death, Jane Isay had urged his widow, Naomi Meyer, partner in faith and action, to create a book from his writings so that his voice would not be silenced forever. Instead of finding the yellowing pages of rabbinic prose or the dry papers of a rabbi-scholar, Jane Isay encountered a powerful voice that implores readers to see the cruelty of our greedy world, begging them to understand the pain of the oppressed, urging them to awaken from their slumber of inactivity, and directing them to act for justice out of respect for the great prophetic vision that is the Jewish gift to civilization. There is a long Jewish tradition of master rabbis, who attract large followings through their lives and whose teachings live long after they die. The writings collected in this gem of a book combine the best of Jewish prophecy with social action and a great sense of joyfulness.

Memories.......2005-08-29
I found this a most moving and inspirational book. But then I'm not an unbiased reviewer: I was Marsh Meyer's roommate for four years at Dartmouth. He passed away some years ago but this little book brought him back to life for me.
Book Description
Due to increased hostility toward Christianity, believers have become too timid about their faith and alternative religions have stepped in to fill the void. Hewitt offers an intelligent, thought-provoking defense for Christians wanting to defend their faith.

Bold as a Lyin'.......2005-10-06
Hugh Hewitt provides just what contemporary Christians need: cover.
While an increasing number of honest Christians find themselves compelled to admit their claim to truth is every bit as unsubstantiated as the religions they denigrate as false, Hewitt allows other Christians of the twenty-first century to boldy proclaim they don't really care about truth; rather, Christians are free to do all they can do to legitimize the oppression and irrational beliefs they foster.
Thank you, Hugh for helping us bury our head in the sand a bit longer, so we can avoid dealing with the real world in the here and now and all the problems thereunto appertaining, not the least of which is the division, terror, and war predicated by unverifiable claims such as the one Hewitt is unembarrased to let us perpetuate.
Here's to Armageddon!!
An Intelligent Plea!!!.......2004-07-07
Hugh Hewitt has written a book which is both provocative and challenging to Christian believers in the U.S., who are most likely influenced by what he calls the "elite media," and he urges them to counteract this influence with truth, salt, and light. Not one to merely criticize, he uses his own life as an example, especially in very candid and frank moments of weakness, and he shares these insights with the reader with a great deal of grace.
This is an excellent read, and highly recommended for those who want to examine how they can impact their culture for Christ.
excellent.......2002-08-20
Hewitt makes great points in this book. Chrisitans need to speak out more, and not be afraid to say what they believe in. Outspoken christans are made fun of, especially ones that are in the public eye. Please read this book, you will love it.
For those who are tired of seeking, seeking, seeking..........2002-03-12
This book is good for Christians who already know what they believe, and are tired of yet one more program to help Christians "find" or "discover" the truth in their religion. Hewitt accurately protrays the truth of the Christian faith for Christians, and the need to speak up without embarrassment for the faith. He shows how proponents of other religious systems, also claiming the truth as they know it, are not shamed by the media, but rather, lauded. What has happened to Christians? Reading the Bible is helpful in answering that question (the Way of the Cross is real), and Hewitt has much to say about how to cope with, and be proud of, being a Christian believer. A well thought out book from a real thinker.
A much-needed book that falls a bit short.......2001-07-22
I was attracted to this book by its premise: that our society's pluralism and disdain for Christianity has pushed believers into the closet (so to speak). However, Hewitt's work reads like a loosely-connected string of essays that don't end up leading toward any real conclusions. There are many good nuggets here, but you have to put up with an overall lack of flow and coherence to find them. Also, the author doesn't seem to consider the possibility that Christians might legitimately grapple with a proper posture toward neighbors of different faiths who find their beliefs meaningful and life-changing. We are called to tell our story, but how do we do that in a winsome, open way? A chapter on that issue would have lent balance to this work.
