Book Description
One of the greatest frustrations in most software projects is version control: the art of managing changes to information. Today's increasingly fast pace of software development--as programmers make small changes to software one day only to undo them the next--has only heightened the problem; consecutive work on code or single-programmer software is a rare sight these days. Without careful attention to version control, concurrent and collaborative work can create more headaches than it solves. This is where Subversion comes into play. Written by members of the Subversion open source development team, Version Control with Subversion introduces the powerful new versioning tool designed to be the successor to the Concurrent Version System or CVS. CVS users will find the "look and feel" Subversion comfortably familiar, but under the surface it's far more flexible, robust, and usable, and more importantly, it improves on CVS's more notable flaws. The book begins with a general introduction to Subversion, the basic concepts behind version control, and a guided tour of Subversion's capabilities and structure. With thorough attention to detail, the authors cover every aspect of installing and configuring Subversion for managing a programming project, documentation, or any other team-based endeavor. Later chapters cover the more complex topics of branching, repository administration, and other advanced features such as properties, externals, and access control. The book ends with reference material and appendices covering a number of useful topics such as a Subversion complete reference and troubleshooting guide. Version Control with Subversion aims to be useful to readers of widely different backgrounds, from those with no previous experience in version control to experienced sysadmins. If you've never used version control, you'll find everything you need to get started in this book. And if you're a seasoned CVS pro, this book will help you make a painless leap into Subversion.
Customer Reviews:
I wish all documentation was this good.......2007-05-03
This is one of the only software books I've read cover to cover. It makes sense, it tells you thing in the right order: It gives you the big picture then goes into detail.
The authors are smart and this book makes you smart like them.
I went 15 years rarely using but not really understanding or trusting CVS. Now I run my own subversion server and love it.
Excellent for VCS Beginners and Experts.......2007-05-01
Looking to convert your CVS to Subversion? Want to know what VCS/Subversion is all about? What to know how to admin a Subversion system? Want a reference guide of the Subversion man pages in "dead-tree edition?"
This is your book.
From beginner to expert in VCS, this view into the Subversion solution will be the only thing you need on your shelf (unless you need extremely advanced/complicated setups). The book covers the basics and general administrative techniques/skills required for your day-to-day needs. It also covers, quite well, the setup of the core system (daemon running, HTTP-cooperative running, tunneling, etc.).
Definitely recommended for everyone.
A well-structured explanation of the subject for almost newbies........2007-04-05
As a previous cvs user (without much experience in it) I found the book extremely useful. I've learnt a lot.
This book is the book you need.......2006-07-05
If you want to understand subversion, this book will take you through all aspects and it will give you the knowledge you need to plan your own implementation.
The online version is good and for things you would like to have a better solution than what the book describes, looking them up in the current online book may show that the feature you wanted has already been implemented. However, the value of having your own paperback version cannot be overstated if you need to know the product well or you're responsible for planning an implementation of it.
A must for anyone wanting to install, administer, or learn subversion.......2006-06-27
let me first point out two of the weak points of the book, and then tell you how great this book is.
The first weak point is the absence of installation instructions. The book tells you need subversion, but it does not say anything on what packages you need, what it depends on, or if you have to configure anything after you get the package. Who would have thunk that the subversion client package also installs everything you need to setup a server. There is no configure, or at least I did not think it was explained clearly that there is no such thing as configuring and installing for subversion (which would justify the absence from the book). For any person who installed a service, let it be Apache or an FTP server, you would know that you had to install the software and then configure some file in /etc. This is not how subversion works, and the book fails to mention that.
The second thing wrong with the book is its organization. I wanted to setup subversion, but that is in chapter 6, which of course assumes that you understood some of the concepts presented in chapters 2 and 3. Similarly, chapters 2 and 3 assume that you to have subversion installed (at least if you want to try out the commands yourself). There is however a couple of pages on how to get subversion set up in chapter 1, but without understanding chapters 2 and 3 it would be hopeless to try.
Besides those two points this book is a must for anyone wanting to install, administer, or learn subversion. The book is written well and the concepts are presented clearly.

Customer Reviews:
great book.......2007-09-10
I read this when it was first published, and read it again twice. It's wonderful - it gives you a sense of what the astronaut program was like, what it was intended to do, and what it did. And above all, a great appreciation for pioneers - anyone who's willing to go into the unknown.
Great book from a great astronaut.......2007-08-09
It's been many years since I read this book as I purchased it shortly after it was initially published in paperback. As I remember and I have to promise myself to reread it, this really is one of the finest if not the finest book written by an astronaut. It really showed me what it was like to be part of the crew of the first landing mission to the moon even though it was "only" from the perspective of the guy who got to stay in orbit while Armstrong and Aldrin got all the glory from the surface of the moon. I really believed that Collins really was comfortable with that role and never expected to get a landing assignment down the road.
Really great book.
one of the best of the genre.......2007-07-18
This is a great first hand peek behind the people with 'The Right Stuff.' The book is very balanced, chatty (& sometimes catty), instructive, technical and humorous. Collins is a natural storyteller with an eye for the absurd and the ridiculous. It will please space buffs and non-space buffs alike. Collins puts a real human slant on the epic of the race to the moon which is infinitely more fascinating than the cardboard one-dimensional heroes we were presented with by the media in the sixties.
Best book written by an astronaut, period.......2007-05-10
Michael Collins' "Carrying the Fire" is the best first-person account written by a Gemini/Apollo-era astronaut. Collins' narrative is told from a layman's perspective and does a great job of explaining the more complex aspects of lunar spaceflight in terms all can understand.
Collins also portrays his, in my opinion, major contributions to the space program and personal abilities in a very humble, almost self-deprecating fashion; all an unusual trait for an astronaut. There is a striking comparison between Collins' descriptions of his own endeavors and abilities and those by other authors, such as Deke Slayton in "Deke" or Gene Cernan in "Last Man on the Moon".
I read this for the first time over 20 years ago, and continue to take it off the shelf from time to time. It's easily one of my top five favorite non-fiction titles.
Factual errors.......2007-03-28
One major error was related to the fact that Mike refers to Cliff Charlesworth's team as the White Team. In fact, the White Team was run by the lead Flight Director, Gene Kranz. Cliff ran the Green Team.

Customer Reviews:
Reengineering the Corporation.......2007-01-12
Very satified with book, shipping, packaging, and timely fachion sent and received.
Burn this Book.......2006-11-21
There is NO EXCUSE for this book to still be in print. "Reengineering" was a trite meaningless buzzword of the early nineties, that when adopted by hack middle managers incapable of thinking anything through, or imagining unexpected results, cost tens of thousands of people their jobs. The authors of this book have already issued their mea culpa for getting so much, so wrong, in the Wall Street Journal. Management fads come and go. Your job is to figure out if the hot new book sweeping through management circles has any merit, or if it's garbage.
I am horrified that this book is even available. If ever there was a book that deserved zero stars, this is it. Stop paying these two moron authors for their incompetent advice.
Collins Busines ESSSENTIALS? Give me a break.
Text on Reengineering.......2006-11-14
Hammer and Champy do a great job of detailing through the reengineering concept and process. They use understandable examples, and communicate benefits, challenges, and necessities well. A bit dry to read and get into, once I got past the beginning, this book moved along nicely.
Reengineering the Corporation .......2006-06-02
The book is written by management consultants who suggest re-engineering the organizations as the most effective way for companies to remain competitive. This entails starting afresh to devise innovative ways to carry out business processes and serve customers more effectively. Managers, employees, business processes, among other things in the entire organization have to radically change so as to save costs, increase revenue, improve quality and serve customers better.
Business process reengineering requires visionary and competent leaders who exploit the vast opportunities availed by the latest information communication technologies, reorganizing employees into cohesive and productive working teams.
This is a well written book with clear explanations reinforced by case studies making it easily understandable to a diverse readership that may wish to understand the concept of business process reengineering and how they can implement it in the organization. They also make a good attempt to rescue business process reengineering from being just another fad of the 1990s and from the appalling image it had acquired for itself as a pretext to indiscriminately retrench people.
One major flaw I see is the perception that business process reengineering is the answers to all problems that an organization may be experiencing and that it is relatively simple and straightforward to implement. That is not always the case and one needs to analyze to see if reengineering is the optimal solution to the challenges of inertia and lack of customer focus and other ills that an organization may be experiencing.
A great book........2005-09-10
I thought this book was very informative and interesting. The writing style used was also good. It was especially nice to read specific stories of successful reengineering.

Book Description
When Michael Collins decides to become a surgeon, he is totally unprepared for the chaotic life of a resident at a major hospital. A natural overachiever, Collins' success, in college and medical school led to a surgical residency at one of the most respected medical centers in the world, the famed Mayo Clinic. But compared to his fellow residents Collins feels inadequate and unprepared. All too soon, the euphoria of beginning his career as an orthopedic resident gives way to the feeling he is a counterfeit, an imposter who has infiltrated a society of brilliant surgeons. This story of Collins' four-year surgical residency traces his rise from an eager but clueless first-year resident to accomplished Chief Resident in his final year. With unparalleled humor, he recounts the disparity between people's perceptions of a doctor's glamorous life and the real thing: a succession of run down cars that are towed to the junk yard, long weekends moonlighting at rural hospitals, a family that grows larger every year, and a laughable income. Collins' good nature helps him over some of the rough spots but cannot spare him the harsh reality of a doctor's life. Every day he is confronted with decisions that will change people's lives-or end them-forever. A young boy's leg is mangled by a tractor: risk the boy's life to save his leg, or amputate immediately? A woman diagnosed with bone cancer injures her hip: go through a painful hip operation even though she has only months to live? Like a jolt to the system, he is faced with the reality of suffering and death as he struggles to reconcile his idealism and aspiration to heal with the recognition of his own limitations and imperfections. Unflinching and deeply engaging, Hot Lights, Cold Steel is a humane and passionate reminder that doctors are people too. This is a gripping memoir, at times devastating, others triumphant, but always compulsively readable.
Customer Reviews:
First Rate.......2007-08-22
This was a phenomenal book. Dr. Michael J. Collins wrote an account of his four years as a resident at the Mayo Clinic which reads like a novel. It is at times laugh-out loud funny, other times devastatingly sad. I didn't want the book to end, yet I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book. I wish I hadn't read it yet so I could read it again. I hope he writes another one.
Doctors Are People, Too.......2007-01-12
Hot Lights, Cold Steel is an intriguing account of the life of a doctor. Written by orthopedic surgeon Michael J. Collins, it is a fast-paced reminiscence of his four years as a resident at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Michigan. Throughout the book, Collins connects the reader to many of his important cases. Told on such a relatable basis, the reader experiences the achievement, thrill, and sorrow that accompany his countless orthopedic cases.
Collins discusses his medical career, describing many orthopedic surgeries in great detail. There is sufficient detail that people with weak stomachs should be cautioned against reading it. He not only discusses each procedural aspect of his work, he also describes the emotions that accompany each victory and especially, each defeat. A major theme throughout the novel is similar to a theme in Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter: humans make mistakes, but nobody is perfect and people learn to forgive. Collins struggles with this reality, recognizing that when doctors make mistakes, people die.
Collins's book isn't all about his career in the hospital, however. He also tells about his ever-growing family and what his being a doctor means for them. Although he relates many pleasurable moments with his family and fellow resident friends, Collins also discusses some of the suffering his family must face until he becomes an attending physician. He especially focuses on the many hardships his wife Patti must endure until he can build up his own practice. Addressing a common misconception that all doctors are wealthy, Collins tells of their poverty, calculating his salary at $2.50 per hour, describing countless "junker" cars, and telling of their near-empty bank account. He is forced to "moonlight" at another hospital on nearly all of his free weekends to supplement his income, which means sacrificing valuable time with his wife and children. Collins enlightens the reader by recounting episodes of his life not only as a doctor, but as husband and father, making the point that doctors are people, too.
For anyone who is considering a career as an orthopedic surgeon, or any medical profession, this book is a must-read. By providing a unique look at the life of a doctor, Collins describes in detail the personal and technical aspects of every surgery as well as his life as a doctor in general. He makes clear just what being a doctor is about, vocationally and personally. Just like an awesome episode of `House', Collins's book will keep the reader interested for hours at a time.
Enjoyable reading.......2006-11-04
The author did a good job keeping our interest and it was very believable.
My 89 year old mother enjoyed it, as did my husband and I.
I highly recommend it. It's nice to know that non-fiction can keep your interest.
"They don't make scalpels with training wheels.".......2006-08-28
"Hot Lights, Cold Steel," by Michael J. Collins, is a fascinating account of the making of an orthopedic surgeon. Collins starts his residency at Rochester's prestigious Mayo Clinic with deep feelings of insecurity. In fact, he dispiritedly dubs himself "the dullest scalpel in the drawer." Unlike his fellow residents, Collins, an Irish Catholic from Chicago's West Side, did not do multiple rotations in orthopedics while in medical school, conducted no research, and wrote no scientific papers. Instead, he worked on a loading dock to make ends meet. To his credit, however, Collins has energy, intelligence, ambition, and perseverance.
At first, Collins tries to stay in the background and keep his mouth shut, hoping that his superiors will overlook his obvious ignorance. When he reviews a chart with the notation "Patient is TTWB," he wonders what this acronym means. Could it be "three times without bleeding," or "terribly thirsty without beer?" Collins disconsolately predicts that he will shortly be drummed out of the residency program for "practicing medicine without a brain." The author's self-deprecating humor is delightful and it helps to offset the tragic cases he recounts.
The author explores the grueling nature of a surgeon's training: the sleepless nights, snatched meals, long absences from loved ones, and fear of hurting a patient. Because he is constantly short of money, Collins and his wife, Patti, drive a series of broken down junkers, and as his family grows, he must moonlight in order to pay the bills. The compensations are the exhilaration of helping a patient regain his or her health, the excitement of performing an operation for the first time, and the deep friendships that Collins forms with his fellow orthopods. Although it terrifies him to know that, if he slips up, he could kill or cripple someone, as time goes on, he gradually learns to accept the fact that everyone makes mistakes and terrible things do happen. He cannot let this possibility destroy his confidence.
The most memorable aspects of the book are the medical anecdotes: a boy's leg is mangled by a tractor and the doctor must decide whether to amputate, a beautiful woman has a rare cancer that requires mutilating surgery, and on a lighter note, a forty-year old man comes into the emergency room with a fishhook up his nose. Sometimes Collins succeeds, and other times, he fails. However, his four years as a resident teach him the immense value and satisfaction of his chosen profession and the importance of treating every patient with respect and compassion.
Reality.......2006-07-02
The thing I loved most about this book is that it is REAL and it is HONEST. It's not exactly glamourous...and that attributes to the book's success.
Dr. Collins doesn't write about earning lots of money and driving the best cars and going to country clubs. He writes about being a resident, just out of medical school, slightly clueless, working 100 hours a week at $2.50 an hour. Not glamourous at all.
But then he writes about the things he does have - a loving wife, many wonderful children, and how some of his fellow residents are his best friends.
It's all very touching and real...I would reccomend this to any people who think they might want to be doctors. It shows you that you're going to have to work very hard...but it will all be worth it in the end. That's an important lesson anyone entering the medical world needs to know.

Comprehension instruction is widely recognized as an essential component of developing students' pleasure and profit from reading. Yet despite significant recent gains in knowledge about how comprehension develops and how it can be taught effectively, classroom practice still lags behind research in this crucial area. This volume brings together the field's leading scholars to summarize current research and provide best-practice guidelines for teachers and teacher educators. Each coherently structured chapter presents key findings on a particular aspect of comprehension, discusses instructional practices supported by the research, and addresses what still needs to be known in order to provide the best possible comprehension instruction for every student. Topics covered include assessment, curriculum, methods, and comprehension difficulties, from the preschool level through high school.

Book Description
When the Irish nationalist Michael Collins signed the Anglo-Irish Treaty in December 1921, he observed to Lord Birkenhead that he may have signed his own death warrant. In August 1922 that prophecy came true when Collins was ambushed, shot and killed by a compatriot, but his vision and legacy lived on. Tim Pat Coogan's biography presents the life of a man whose idealistic vigor and determination were matched by his political realism and organizational abilities. This is the classic biography of the man who created modern Ireland.
Customer Reviews:
Michael Collins rules!.......2007-09-26
Excellent book, very well written in the usual "Coogan" way, that is, skilfull, fluent and full of nice anecdotes. Gives an insightful portrait of one of Ireland's greatest men and my personal favourite. Eireann go brach!
A good picture of revolutionary Ireland.......2007-05-14
An informative humanizing biography that provides a good picture of revolutionary Ireland. More photogrpahs would have made for 5 stars.
Best book on Collins.......2006-07-14
I recommend this book to anyone who wants an intense indepth study of Collins and Ireland of his time. This is easy to read and full of interesting information about the man and those around him. Collins was a genius who shaped the fate of modern Ireland and did so with an acute sense of how far he wcould go to achieve what he wanted.
It really makes me wonder how much better off Ireland would have been if he had not best lost so early in his life.
Michael Collins: The Man who made Irelaand.......2005-08-17
This is an extarodinary book about an extraordinary man. It is well wriiten, it is exciting and easy to read. It gives a wonderful insight into the life and times of Ireland during this remarkable time
Excellent Book.......2005-04-05
Although the pages and the sophisticated writing style might intimidate one, if you stick to it and read the book to the end, you will NOT regret it. It was my first book in Irish History and I have learned so much from reading it. This book is amazing beyond words. If you buy it, you won't reget it.

Book Description
Co-published by Jossey-Bass and the International Reading Association, Improving Comprehension Instruction provides a comprehensive overview of current research, proven methods, and successful applications for designing and delivering effective comprehension instruction in K-12 classrooms across the curriculum. Featuring chapters written by noted experts in literacy, cognition, and teaching methodology, this much-needed volume examines the broad array of strategies that teachers can use to develop comprehension proficiency in all students, even those who have had limited previous success in reading. Each chapter focuses on a particular facet of comprehension, presenting research, model instructional practices, and steps needed to ensure that the instructional innovations are effectively adopted in the classroom. The book also highlights sample lessons, showing how comprehension can be prompted, modeled, or demonstrated by the teacher. Strategies for instructing students from urban at-risk or diverse linguistic backgrounds, for overcoming particular reading problems, and for making effective use of educational technology receive prominent attention.

The PC business is full of rags-to-riches stories. But perhaps none is as dramatic as the rise of Dell Computer. In Direct from Dell, founder and CEO Michael Dell tells how he started his company from a dorm room at the University of Texas with less than $1,000 and built it into an industry powerhouse with a market capitalization of well over $100 billion. What makes Dell Computer unique is not what it sells, but rather how it sells it. Dell was first in the PC industry to pioneer the direct-selling model, a method that competitors such as Compaq and Apple Computer are only now starting to embrace. By cutting out the intermediary and creating a direct link between manufacturer and customer, Dell was able to provide customers with computers that cost less and that were more apt to meet customer needs.
Direct from Dell is organized into two parts. The first recounts the history and the enormous growth of Dell Computer. The second part focuses on Dell's management approach, from developing customer focus to creating alliances with suppliers. The book manages to avoid most of the promotional and self-congratulatory air that seem to plague so many first-person CEO tomes. Anyone who has followed the PC industry or would like insight into Dell Computer's success should enjoy reading this book. Well written and easy to read. Recommended. --Harry C. Edwards

Customer Reviews:
interesting personal story but low value.......2006-12-18
Michael Dell tries to tell us how is company has been so successful and winds up writing an incredibly self serving biography even for a business man. It is so useless on information that it is amazing he got as many pages he did. Basically if you want to succeed in business you have to be brilliant like he is. While the direct to consumer model is very interesting his claim that he should be the sole possessor of it is ludicrous but what can you do. Read at your own risk.
Useful insights from Dell's direct sales success story.......2006-11-06
If you are in the computer business, or in sales, you already know the Dell story. It's about a driven man, Michael Dell, who came up with a simple idea - direct sales - and then expanded his company into the world's second biggest manufacturer of personal computers. Dell's personal story is inseparable from the story of his company, and his book gives readers his unfiltered, first-person perspective. He covers his company's history, challenges, problems and successes in an unvarnished, matter-of-fact style. We highly recommend this book to anyone in the computer industry, to entrepreneurs and to managers who want to make their small businesses grow.
Lessons from a leader.......2006-06-04
Its important to distinguish the book from the leader/company that is Dell. The company and the person are outstandingly awesome while the book is "just great"!! The first part of the book deals largely with a quasi-autobiographical-chronological account of the tale from the high school summer job of Michael Dell to the $30Billion company that is Dell. In this journey, we read about some of the core values that seems to enshrine the man and his company and get a glimpse of the critical twists and turns that made his company what it is.
In the second part of the book, we are treated to a bit of preaching - which is a different tone from the first part, but by now typically the reader is all in admiration for Dell & hence cant but resist to read each chapter and try to pick out the relevant bits to implement back in ones' own sphere of work. And that is where this book scores, some of the insights and lessons though straightforward, force the reader into contemplation.
Quite a brilliant read!
Useful only if you want to know Dell's history.......2005-12-14
Two parts in the book: one for Dell Co. development, another for Dell's management.
I know Dell as it dominates the PC market for serveral years, and it seems that Dell is a few companies that can earn money in this low-return industry. When I studied Operation Management, I was taught Dell has been very successful by its DIRECT model and its stock flied and flied. Direct from Dell provdies the first hand information as it is written by Dell's chairman and CEO, Michael Dell, although I don't know how much is written by him.
It do let me know more about Dell's history and how Michael became rich, and, that's all. This is the first part of the book.
After reading a few pages in the second part, I lost interest. Dell talks about his management principles, but many of them could be found in management books--nothing special and not worth to read. So I stopped.
I am following Michael Dell Path.......2005-09-13
I started my business a year ago and my aim is to become one of the world top businessmen next to Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Michael Dell and others.
I am facing many problems in my start-up business, after reading Direct from Dell i found out that Dell faced similar problems in his business. The book provided me with guidance, inspiration, and motivation to survive the bumpy ride of a new business.
Thank you Michael Dell...

Customer Reviews:
Great but lacking.......2007-10-18
Unfortunately this product feels a lot like Dungeons & Dragons in space. I guess with the transferability of the d20 rules that was always going to be more or less the case, but there are just elements of this book that don't really feel like they're grounded in the Star Wars universe; instead, they feel like they're bits of the D&D universe that have been altered and retrofitted to make sense in a Star Wars context. The book is even laid out in a similar fashion to the D&D Players' Handbook.
I would have much preferred to see something that was all Star Wars from the ground up. I don't know what licensing arrangements Wizards have with Lucasfilm and the other Star Wars franchises, but seeing crossover from all the various elements of Star Wars to this book would have been preferable.
Putting those disappointments aside, the book presents workable rules to run a Star Wars campaign, and it's quite clear in most of its descriptions and detail.
There's nothing better out there to run a SW campaign (although I haven't read the Saga edition), but it's not hard to imagine something that could be better.
D20 IN SPACE.......2007-04-30
I recently came to d20 from AD&D (which I think is HACKMASTER now) and I was often confused when trying to play d20 D&D. I think the old and new ways of resolving saves and ability and skill checks were warring in my mind. I don't know if STAR WARS RPG does a better job of explaining the core rules or if it was just a fresh perspective, but I understand the system much better now. Everything is very clearly spelled out so that it is easy to follow.
STAR WARS RPG is a great adaptation of the STAR WARS universe to d20 roleplaying. It captures the epic combats, both individuals and spaceships. It covers play in the three STAR WARS eras, the Old Republic, the Empire, and the New Republic. All of the well-known species are there, available for play, and player classes that cover scouts, scoundrels, nobles, and jedi of multiple stripes. There are rules governing lightsaber creation, starfighter combat, and interstellar travel. I particularly appreciated that all the rules for play are included, so you do NOT need to buy the D&D PHB separately. There's only one experience table for all classes (a big simplification in my mind). I also really like the replacement of hit points with wound and vitality points. Vitality is like D&D hit points, increasing with level, and cover blows in regular combat. Wound points are determined by your Con. score and remain constant and represent real damage.
I think there are some big issues with the system, though. It isn't clear why anyone would want to play a non-jedi character. The jedi have no real disadvantages and so many overwhelming advantages that the only purpose to non-jedi PCs is to add flavor to a game. As others have noted, the vehicle rules are pretty clunky. Hint: if you need a whole chapter to describe rules for something fast-paced like a chase scene or space combat, a rules-summary at the end is in order. All in all, it's a good game and an interesting alternative to d20 FUTURE.
Star Wars Roleplaying Game.....isn't this just D&D?.......2007-04-01
So, When the revised book came out for Star Wars roleplaying I was excited. I thought the first release by wizards of the coast was way to much like D&D. Everything was about the same other then the 3-D Space combat. I was very disapointed when the second one released prior to the Revenge of the Sith, leaving not thought out plot holes regarding the books. Other then that what makes Star Wars so interesting is not the feats, skill, or items but the fact that 'you' can play a Jed i Knight. I believe this is the only thing going for this game and the fact that it is a copy of Dungeons and Dragons. So if you like 3.5 and love Star Wars this game is great but you will find it may limit your game play and I would rather play D&D which invites more world building rather then a fully established universe and plot line. I mean come on if Luke and his gang are already saving the galaxy, what do your characters have to do, Shot some low level stormtroopers and get some data?
Insect Bites.......2006-07-23
Overall, Star Wars RPG is a good system. Its very easy to learn if you've played D20 Modern especially. I wouldn't say that there are any big problems with the game system, but there are certainly a lot of minor problems that would be very confusing/frustrating to someone without a rules lawyer who understands game balancing. Its a fun game for roleplaying, but I'm not sure Wizards had any really competant game-balancing rules lawyers actually look over the system, or maybe they didn't play test it enough. Either way, the system has a number of very minor game unbalancing things that spring up in game from time to time that require a comptetant GM to resolve. Nothing especially terrible, and overall I enjoy the system as do many of the people I play with. So I would recommend the system to any Star Wars and roleplaying enthusiasts (in that order).
The book itself is well-laid out, I can find the info I need with relative ease.
Excellent Book.......2006-02-17
If your thinking of buying this, then do. This book has provided many hours of fun just reading it, let alone playing star wars rpg.
