Welcome to Modern Mentoring.......2006-07-12
To demonstrate how "power mentoring" works in practice, authors Ellen Ensher and Susan Murphy provide down-to-earth interviews with about 50 pairs of high-powered mentors and their protégés. The conversations offer useful nuggets of insight about office politics, job advancement and successful networking. In addition, unlike many books on the topic, this one provides a useful snapshot of the issues, dramas and special challenges women and minorities in the modern workplace face - and the picture is not always pretty. The book's biggest flaws are its redundancy and use of boardroom clichés. Still, we recommend this personalized, practical book to potential mentor-protégé teams.
New mentoring strategies for new business environments.......2006-04-20
Ellen Ensher is Associate Professor at the College of Management at Loyola Marymount, and Susan Murphy Associate Professor at Claremont McKenna College: each has written and consulted both together and independently and here produces a powerful collaboration on mentoring and its lasting benefits to both mentor and prot?g?. Mentoring has a powerful influence on successful people: that's been proven; but traditional models of mentoring haven't kept up with business programs that have different emphasis today than in past. POWER MENTORING covers these changes in approach and offer new strategies for locating and creating 'power mentoring' relationships. Interviews with 50 top leaders and their proteges in technology, politics and media reinforce these concepts and approaches.
A Must.......2006-01-12
Power Mentoring is a powerful reminder that even in one of the most individualistic societies on earth, most successful people do not succeed alone. Power Mentoring skillfully combines the latest research on mentoring with fascinating interviews of real American success stories. Interesting and well written, this book is a must for business students or anyone wanting to know one of the best kept secrets to success.
Best mentoring book you could find!.......2005-11-15
We all know how important and valuable a mentor can be, but most of us do not know how to find a good one, and how to make the most of the relationship if we do. "Power Mentoring" taught me so much on the topic, and transformed mentoring from being a nice idea, into something concrete that I too could benefit from. I loved the book, and would recommend it to anyone interested in bettering themselves and their situations.
Just In Time Advice.......2005-09-27
This book has the right tools at the right time. Great tips and techniques for trainers and especially those who are focused on the diversity initiatives in their organizations. The stories are compelling and relevant. There is information and tips that can be applied - right now. I found this book to be inspiring as well as entertaining and it is very helpful in coaching managers in their careers.

Book Description
Having survived his rise to Chairman of Everest Capital, the world's largest private equity firm, and the ferocious attempts on his life that ensued, Christian Gillette finally seems safely perched atop the financial industry.
He's just accepted Everest's largest private investment, he's poised to takeover his ex-rival's sinking firm, and he's just embarked on his firm's most exciting venture to date, buying the NFL's newest team -- the Las Vegas Twenty-Ones. Plus, one of his young employees -- an ambitious deal maker named David Wright -- has caught his eye. Wright reminds Gillette of himself just a few years back, and he's drawn to the thought of teaching the wunderkind everything the ups and downs of the industry. But everything comes to a screeching halt when a shadowy man calls him to a meeting, requesting a favor and offering in return new information about Gillette's father and his still mysterious death.
Christian Gillette can't stand to be controlled, but he also can't afford to lose a chance at finally learning something substantive about his father's death. And as he becames more entangled with the strange deal, and the frantic pace of business continues without his full attention, he feels his grip on Everest weakening -- and soon realizes his life is once more in desperate jeopardy. When all signs begin to point to David Wright, Gillette realizes that his toughest decision as Chairman lies directly ahead...

Fast Paced.......2007-06-17
The author is good at moving things along at a quick pace. In this book, Wall Street Financier Christian Gillette returns to battle the forces of evil. Namely, a branch of the Mafia represented by The Carbone Family and a shadowy branch of the Defense Department- DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)represented by Norman Boyd and his associate Ganze. It turns out that Boyd is trying to get at a small company owned by Gillette's Everest Capital investment firm in order to profit from nanotechnology. Along the way the reader is introduced to the bright and beautiful heiress Allison Wallace who is ready to invest 15 billion dollars from her family into Everest. But. With conditions. Other events of interest are Gillette's acquisition of a professional football team and approvals for a Las Vegas casino as well as his girlfriend the beautiful singer Faith who is under contract to one of Gillette's companies. All this between big financial deals. And don't forget Gillette is a self made success and good guy who counsels his top employees to donate generously to charity. He is also searching for the answer to his father's death in a plane crash. His father had been a U.S. Senator. As well as the identity of his mother. Who was The Protege? David Wright, heir apparent at Everest, who unintentionally murdered a woman during some kinky sex that was secretly photographed by the mafia. Naturally, they used the photos to blackmail him. The CIA enters the picture too. A lot of different subplots but the author ties them reasonably well together in a fast paced read.
A Good Follow-up to the Chairman.......2007-02-08
If you enjoyed the Chairman, you will like this book. I gave the Chairman 5 stars because it seemed like it was a bit darker and more unique with regards to it's development of supporting characters like Coen, and Nigel Faraday, who, unfortunately, is downplayed in the next 2 books.
Disappointed.......2006-11-30
What a disappointment. Frey attempts to work in too many plot lines, his poorly developed characters have no substance other than to assure that they function best as whiny spoiled children. Adults who behave that way in the real world would be out the door of a firm like Everest. My only reason for even finishing the book was because I was on an airplane. Had I a selection of other books from which to choose (or could have found a passenger willing to trade), I would have set this book aside without temptation to learn the ending. I'm disappointed with all of the strings that Frey leaves dangling, clearly setting up the reader for another book in the series. I will not be purchasing that one.
Slow pace.......2006-11-11
Not the best in the Stephen Frey production. The plot is a bore, you can not write three books with the material for one
Too much of a good thing.......2006-10-12
Do you like books about Mafia? How about Corporate spies? Mergers and billion dollar business deals? How about political influence? Like books about exotic places where people are murdered? Books about scientific inventions that can destory the world? Books about the CIA? Books about football teams? How about books about up from the boot straps African American men who make good on hard work and have private detective agencies?
If you like all these things, you still won't like this book. There isn't a popular element of suspense fiction that the author HASN'T sqeezed into this book. And frankly, it's too much. The fact that this was the sequel to another book only made it more confusing. I read lots of sequels without reading the first book, and this one falls very short of the mark for entertainment or realism.

Presumably anyone who can afford the $150 to $300 a head it takes to dine at one of Alain Ducasse's restaurants won't blanch at the hefty price tag on this glossy testimonial to the great master's gastronomy. L'Atelier of Alain Ducasse is like an elaborate program you bring home from the opera and may have about as much practical value. In his introduction, Jean-Francois Revel of the Academie Francaise suggests there's a certain pointlessness to even thinking about cooking along the lines of the recipes presented by Ducasse. Revel emphasizes again and again the high quality of the ingredients Ducasse works with, implying that such ingredients by their very nature are out of reach of mere mortal cooks. "In these modern times," Revel writes, "the land is far removed from nature, and nature has found refuge in haute cuisine. For now nature has become too expensive: in the kitchen, as elsewhere, it has become a supreme luxury." So with the caveat that you will never find the special ingredients it takes to make any of these dishes really sing and that the skill level is professional, Ducasse divides his book into sections based on his favorite ingredients: olives and olive oil, asparagus, wheat, the white Alba truffle, bass, turbot, lamb, and lemons and citrus fruits. The recipes have been produced by Ducasse and a handful of his core students including Franck Cerutti, Jean-Louis Nomicos, Sylvain Portay, Jean-Francois Piege, and Alessandro Stratta. Good writing would have carried this book way over the top, but good writing is what it lacks. The essays are wooden, perhaps attributable to translation, and the recipes, of course, are out of reach. That leaves the photos, which makes this a beautiful book for the coffee table. --Schuyler Ingle
Book Description
Alain Ducasse, the charismatic, innovative and demanding master chef, invites us to enter the prestigious world of French haute gastronomie.
Brilliantly guided by the distinguished author, Jean-Francois Revel of the Academie Francaise, we follow this champion of the highest standards in food and its preparation as he creates new recipes, continues his constant search for the finest ingredients, and discovers new techniques and new domains in which to practice his art.
Herve Amiard's photographs illustrate all four sections of the book, providing the backdrop to this fascinating journey.
L'Atelier, where we witness the creative process and catch the spontaneous gestures and glances of the master chef and his pupils as they exercise their skills. Here too, we meet Alain Ducasse's five star pupils: Franck Cerutti, Jean-Louis Nomicos, Jean-Francois Piege, Sylvain Portay and Alessandro Stratta.
Products and Producers, in which Benedict Beauge visits Alain Ducasse's suppliers and hears from the master chef why olives, asparagus, wheat, white Alba truffles, sea bass, turbot, lamb and Menton lemons are his favorite ingredients.
Vegetables, where we learn why these products play such a crucial role in Alain Ducasse's culinary vision.
Recipes, where the master and his students create delicious, stylish dishes from the eight chosen ingredients.
Ceaselessly striving to achieve perfection, Alain Ducasse offers the reader a magnificent lesson in gastronomy. For the first time, Alain Ducasse gives gourmets the opportunity to put themselves in the place of his brilliant pupils. A privilege to be enjoyed to the fullest!
Alain Ducasse Famous from Paris to New York, from Turin to Tokyo, the renowned master chef is at the helm of two of France's most prestigious restaurants: the Louis XV-Alain Ducasse in Monaco and the Restaurant Alain Ducasse in Paris. Both these temples of French gastronomy have achieved the exceptional honor of receiving three stars from the Michelin Guide. This accomplished gastronome has developed two contrasting and complementary culinary styles: relaxed, spontaneous Mediterranean cookery and the rigorously classic cuisine of the French capital.

A Master at Work.......2000-03-30
Alain Ducasse is nothing less than a "master" in the kitchen, when he brings dining to a whole new level. Anyone who liked his past book "Flavors of France," will surely like this book just as much.

Only good for a few models.......2001-01-19
As the others have said, this book is not very good. I found one by Haynes which is much better; for example, I used it for a 626, a very popular model. The Chilton's was dead wrong in some areas and very poor in most others. The Haynes was dead ON in all areas I needed. That seems to be true for the whole book; forget the chilton's (which has been an excellent source in the past for these kinds of manuals), and, in this case at least, buy the Haynes, which is also cheaper, by the way!

I am an owner of a 93 mazda mx-6. I found the information provided to be scetchy at best. I purchased this book because I was interested in the wiring diagrams which were "now included". They were included for all makes, save the mx-6.
A univeral anything tends to fit nothing.......1998-12-18
I'd have to agree with the last reviewer's 2 star rating, and that's being generous. Usually Chilton does a good job, but trying to cram all these different models in one book is not the way to go. I own a 626, and just about every time I tried to follow a procedure, the text would refer to something that was only pictured for the other models (usualy the Miata or 323), and of course when I eventually figured it out on my own the item mentioned was in a totally different place, looked different, etc. Unfortunately this was the only book I have found for a 1993 626.
Crapola.......1997-10-16
This book is hardly useful for any REAL repair work. Putting information on several different cars that are hardly alike all together in one book simply does not work. i.e. Engine repair shows specific examples for a mx-3 or whatever, but not for others. The Electrical diagams are incomplete making them totally confusing. Most importantly. THe sole reason why I bought this book is for Vacuum diagrams, which is indicated on the cover of the book. There is not one vacuum diagram for any car in the entire book.

Customer Reviews:
a must have for older model Mazda's.......2007-06-10
this manual was exactly what we needed to local a serious problem we were experiencing with a 1998 Mazda we inherited. The car did not come with a manual, therefore, it was very important to locate one for the year, make and model.
We were able to locate the problem and show our machanic and have it repaired. Our machanic was able to use this manual in repairing the car.... The car is driving well and if in the future we have anymore "mystery" problems this manual will be worth it's weight in gold.
A Complete Waste Of Money .......2005-08-31
This book is useless. I should have known from the title that there is no way to provide useful info for 323/Mx-3/626/Millenia/Protege all in one book. After buying the book I found I was right.
1990 Mazda 626 - Chilton Manual 46802.......2005-02-23
I bought this manual for the sole purposes of (1) obtaining the electric circuit diagram for the two license plate lights which are currently none functioning on my 1990 Mazda 626 altho' the bulbs are OK and (2) info on how to correct a sticking front shoulder belt mechanism. NOT A WORD ABOUT THESE SIMPLE MATTERS IN THIS MANUAL FOR MY 1990 MAZDA 626 or any other model for that matter. Don't expect this manual to cover everything related to your car.
Looks ok but dosn't really help.......2003-01-19
When you page through this book you notice all the great diagrams. It's not until use it that you realize none of the blow up diagrams have any parts labeled. The book has a lot of great procedures but most are not thorough enough and there is no general troubleshooting section to steer you in the right direction (other chiltons have this). For example, my Mazda lunged and quit working. I troubleshot a lot of systems before finding a weak spark. Then the only explanation for a weak spark in the book was the coil. I validated the coil did not meet their validation criteria and replaced it. But it did not work so I took it to the dealer. The dealer determined it was the distributor. The book had no validation or installation procedures for the distributor.
Chilton's Mazda Repair Manual No. 46802.......2001-05-31
It is indeed a tough job to describe so many different models of Mazda vehicles in one book. While a lot of information is covered, I feel that too much space has been devoted to teaching the basics of how to do generic tasks. Not having seen any other Chilton's manuals, I don't know if this basic training appears in all manuals, but I beleive that the basics should be left out so that much more detail can be included about the specifics of the Mazda vehicles covered by the manual. The information included in Chapter 1 for example, should be in a General Mechanics book. Apart from that, I have found the manual helpful.

Book Description
Because You Believed in Me uses stories of real people-such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Claude Monet and Eugene Boudin, Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and Benjamin Elijah Mays-to capture the elusive qualities and proven benefits of mentoring relationships. The value of mentoring, tested by time, becomes apparent in their stories. What if Eugene Boudin hadn't encouraged Claude Monet to paint the outdoors? Would someone else have inspired another person with similar talent to abandon studio painting and venture into the beauty of landscapes? Mentors expand boundaries and open worlds of possibilities. Even brilliant people need heroes. The emulation of another can be a catalyst for self-discovery. A mentor's example, along with questions and shared experiences, helps prot,g,s clarify their paths, crystallize their values, and experience the freedom to explore unimagined vistas.Designed to inspire and uplift, Because You Believed in Me highlights the spirit of mutual generosity in the mentor-prot,g, relationship. This wonderful collection is an invitation to reach out, renew, and remember the powerful influences of unique individuals.
Customer Reviews:
poorly written.......2006-12-12
I thought this book was poorly written. Although it has some great examples of mentoring relationships I felt that it lacked a solid focus on topics the book was covering exactly. The book outlined the results of effective mentoring relationships but I don't think that it provided a structure for individuals to follow so that their mentoring relationships would be as effective. I would definitely not recommend this book to current or future mentors.
Timely and Fascinating Storytelling.......2003-05-07
In every informative and impressive page, McMullen and Miller illustrate the value of mentor relationships. Historical pairs arouse curiosity, interest, and the desire to share the beautiful truths of mentoring's importance with family, friends, colleagues, and community. This inspiring storytelling is penned with strong writing, keen understanding, and timely significance.
Who knew?.......2003-05-04
Who knew such famous people had help from others to acomplish their goals? I've been giving it to all of my friends for their birthdays.

Some important details lacking.......2005-12-03
I've been using these Haynes books for years, and this is the worse one I have found yet. The things that are good about it (described in the other reviews) are good only because there's nothing better out there. This book has two main problems: first, the photographs reveal too little, and have too little definition. They also were taken with components removed--but the problem is that removing those components is usually not described in that particular section. In fact, it doesn't even tell you that it should be removed. Example: in order to get to the thermostat, you have to remove the distributor. But it doesn't tell you that. Also, in order to get to the fuel filter, you have to remove SOMETHING. But it doesn't tell you what. Second, steps are skipped in the descriptions--important ones. Not only are they skipped, but they are inadequately described. Example: In order to realign the distrubutor (which, by the way, you have to do if you take it off [which, by the way, you have to do if you want to replace the thermostat]) you have to get the number one piston at top dead center (TDC). The book tells you to align the notch on the crankshatp alligns with the T mark on the timeing plate. What timing plate? Where? The picture helps nothing, it doesn't show what angle it's taken from--it's completely random.
So, I'd try to buy it used. They just have gotten lazy with these things over the years. They need to remember: on foreign cars, you can't skip steps, because everything is buried, everything is in the way.
I'll withdraw this review when someone at Haynes emails me to help me out with my distribultor problem: [...]
Comprehensive info for car years 1990 to 2000.......2004-10-26
Complete tear down and rebuild. These manuals are excellent. I wanted to make sure there was a note that this is for the years MAZDA 323 & Protoge 1990 to 2000 inclusive. If you have the new style protoge, don't get it!!

It is a really handy manual by which you can find lots of information from maintain routine to specific repair guildlines. Very useful to the first car ower like me. It helps to decide when to do the right service to the car and teaches how to detach all the parts for repairing or replacing purpose. Moreover, the content is well organized,it is easy to find the exact instruction and illustration.

Book Description
The Protégé begins with police investigating a horrific murder replete with graphic detail and gut-wrenching revulsion. What at first appears to be an open-and-shut homicide case eventually turns into an international conspiracy that takes its toll on most of its participants, whose lives are forever changed either psychologically or perpetually. The Protégé will take the reader through an unforgiving maze where each change in direction brings about unfathomable consequences. Although fictional in nature, portions of this work are historically correct in context and will bring the reader back to a time when man's inhumanity to man was at its apex.
Customer Reviews:
Satisfies Multiple Audiences.......2007-06-22
Rarely, does one novel 'play' well to so many genres. "The Protege" encompasses mystery, thriller, horror, espionage, history, and to a degree, almost a 'spirituality'. It's at once, entertaining, provacative, and downright scary in its 'reality'. Yes, the book is graphic, but 'life' in these circles is graphic. To make it less so would leave it unbelievable.
Given the recent success of 'graphic' films for the sake of only the shock value, I would say the film producers should be looking at this story where 'graphics' are so frighteningly tickling 'truth'.
I commend Mr. Ross' ability to weave so many plot twists and such enticing characters without one instance of lost consistency. As a writer myself, an enviable gift.

Sam Ross Rocks! Movie Executives Where Are You?.......2007-05-22
The Protégé -By Sam Ross
Movie executives where are you?
This is a must read book for those who enjoy a grisly police who-done-it. Even though the book has gruesome content, Sam Ross knows how to suck in his readers and take them for an International roller coaster ride. The twists and turns of "The Protégé" make it hard for one to lay the book down.
Emotions are on the rise as a reader feels they are part of incredible hunt for justice. Sam Ross has the making of a best selling author. I truly hope that his books become movies.
So watch out CSI, and Homicide Investigation shows, Sam Ross is on the loose and the man knows how to write.
Unbelievable Book!.......2006-12-26
I picked up this book not sure whether or not I would like it due to the graphic nature involved. AM I GLAD I GOT IT! This book has so many twists and turns that it is impossible to figure out the end before getting to it. I grew so attached to two of the characters that I even wrote to the author asking him to continue a storyline involving them!!! The dialogue is so realistic that I felt like I was part of a real murder/mystery plot. I can't really put into words how I feel about this book. Before reading it, Da Vinci Code was my favorite book but now having read The Protege I can't believe I thought Da Vinci Code was good because this book is absolutely fantastic! Enjoy it because I definitely did!
