I actually bought this book for myself when I was 25 years old. I didn't buy it for a teenaged brother or a daughter. It was purely for myself. I had read Stephen Covey's "7 Habits..." when I was in college and was very inspired by the book but decided to buy this book just to check it out. It looked like a fun read and I was curious to know what Stephen's son had to say about the habits. As mentioned in other reviews, both books have exactly the same ideas except Sean's book presents the ideas in a much simpler form (without losing the essense). I think the simplicity of Sean's book actually enhances the message being communicated. And now, although I still have Stephen Covey's book, I refer back to Sean Covey's book instead when I want a refresher. I highly recommend this book to adults who are looking for inspirational self-help books. I am going out to buy Sean's other book which seem to be receiving higher acclaim. Cheers.

I recommend this book for young adults too.The simple, no-nonsense approach of Sean Covey makes this book an easy read. There's no useless psychobabble in this book unlike other self-help books.

Sean Clancy did a marvelous job with this book. I laughed, I cried (a lot). If anyone followed what happened to Barbaro this book is a must. Thank you Mr. Clancy for writing such a glowing story about this beautiful animal.
A truly wonderful, must-read story.......2007-06-08
This book was beautifully written and I enjoyed every page. Barbaro touched the lives of so many of us and I still feel the sorrow of his tragic injury and ultimate death. What a courageous animal! I also want to give praise to Edgar Prado who wept for Barbaro and probably still does.
This strong, tough as nails jockey has a heart and lots of soul and I admire him tremendously. Barbaro meant much more than a paycheck to Mr. Prado. I am a fan and admirer of this man who felt so much for Barbaro mand who grieved with the rest of the world at his loss.
No praise and no words could pay proper tribute to Dr. Dean Richardson and all the staff who fought so hard to keep Barbaro alive and whose main objective was that he live a life free from pain. What a valient struggle!
It's wonderful knowing there are still professionals who truly care, and human beings who aren't afraid of having a heart and aren't afraid of allowing the world to see it.

This is a very well written book of the Barbaro story told with insight and compassion, without being maudlin. Of course when he wrote the book he thought Barbaro would live, as most of us who were rooting for him, did. So the tone is positive and the pictures are worth the price of the book. A great introduction to heavy-duty truck systems.......2000-12-04
We used this book in our diesel technician class. The book gives you an excellent introduction to every aspect of a heavy-duty truck. I usually shy away from books written by more than one author because of lack of continuity or overcoverage in certain areas. In the case of this book, the authors have done a fantasic job of explaining the topics without any assumptions. The book does a good job in covering cluthes, standard transmission, torque converters, drive shafts, axles, and automatic transmissions. On the subject of brakes, I recommend Delmar's "Today's Technician: Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Brakes." If your thinking of buying a book on this subject matter, you can't go wrong with this selection. Be aware that a third edition has been released.

I bought this for my 13 year old son, and we both listened to it together. It talked about dating, procrastination, choices, and relationships with parents. I enjoyed it and my son grasped the major concepts, but I think he is not at the dating or choices level, we will listen to it again right before he starts high school and we will continue to listen to it periodically throughout his high school life.

I was given this book as a birthday gift. I am a huge Audrey Hepburn fan. I think she is not only beautiful but she is an exceptional actress. She carries herself with a great deal of class. Looking through the book I felt as though I were looking through her own personal scrapbook. She went through so much in life but always came across as caring and graceful. The book is beautifuly written and I love the way it is put together with the snapshots and other wonderful surprises in the pages. This is a completely ludicrous story, but, still fun. Turn all the heroes in the Marvel Universe into zombies, and have them go down and track down and eat the few holdouts, survivors, and others, including people like Magneto.
Then, once they have eaten everyone, maybe they can find some other really big otherworldly food sources.
The title itself, is, of course, self-parody.

This is one of the best graphic novels I've read in a long time!Robert Kirkman was born to write zombie stories.I dont think this is as good as the walking dead but it still a wonderful read.My only complaint is that I thought this story should've been a little longer.I bet i finished this book in a half an hour tops.The art is pretty solid and stay with the story I have to give marvel credit for not holding back on the gore!

Based on the other reviews on Amazon, I picked up this book to assist me with a graduate economics course after realizing that I was way in over my head. I'd never had an economics course before, so this book had to substitute for the undergraduate education that I was lacking. The verdict? I read it in one weekend, and caught up to speed in my grad class the next week. Definitely worth the investment.

This is probably the first and last review I'll ever do of a "Dummies" book, but I just had to give this book a plug. Whoever wrote it (I don't remember and I'm too lazy to scroll up and see) did a fantastic job. It's really good!
I confess that I was so impressed with the explanations and examples offered in this book that for a while I mulled over having our school switch from our current texts (Mankiw's "Principles of Macroeconomics" and Samuelson's "Economics") to this one.
But I soon thought better of it: the department would probably acquire a bad name in a big hurry if students were seen walking about with copies of a "Dummies" text under their arms as their official course text. And that would be bad for me.
But that's how good it is. Too bad I'm so self-interested! Now the students will just have to slog through inferior texts.
Don't think you're getting a free lunch, though: there are graphs, models, and equations you're gonna have to learn to wade through it.
But in my estimation, going through a layman's course in both micro- and macroeconomics could not be made more painless than here, unless your needs are so casual that you're looking to dispense with graphs and equations altogether.
In which case, good luck learning anything solid about economics!

As an Engineering Economy professor in a local University (I'm an Engineer), I always receive questions from my students regarding Economics issues; I bought this book in order to learn a little bit more of the field, but I learned in excess of what my students need to know.
Now, when asked an Economics question, my answer start as "I'm just an Engineer but I know that..." instead of "I'm not an Economist, but to the best of my knowledge...". Kudos to Dr Flynn for a fine work.

I highly recommend this book to those who wants rudimentary Economics knowledge. It is ladened with graphs and basic algebraic equations which made the concepts easier to understand. The author has dispelled my long belief that the subject is "dull".

This book was just great. I have never read a dummies book before and didnt want to feel like a dummy carrying it around (pun intended) but man this book was just great. Even with everything I have learned about Economics in the past this book still challenged me. I definltey learned a lot from this book. Definitely going to seek out other books by the Dummies corp.

I'm a big fan of Temple Grandin's books, and couldn't wait to pick this one up. It's the first time I've been disappointed.
This book contains a lot of fascinating information and insight, both about autism and about the rules that govern "neurotypical" social life. There's nothing like having an outsider's perspective - "beginner's mind" - to realize all the things you take for granted.
My disappoinment, though, lies in the book's very sloppy editing. Spelling and grammatical errors pop out at least every 3 pages or so. Stylistically, much of the writing reads like a first draft: stiff, clunky, stilted, and loaded with cliches. The potential for good writing is there, if only a judicious editor had been around to help clean up the mistakes and suggest stylistic improvements. I don't expect a Thackeray or Joan Didion here, but the persistent grammatical & spelling errors distract severely from the content.
Interestingly, Temple Grandin's segments (the book is written in three voices, Dr. Grandin's, Mr. Barron's, and their editor's) are by far the best written of anything in the book. This surprised me, since she is such a visual thinker and has written in the past about her difficulty with language. It just goes to show that practice makes perfect: even an incredibly non-verbal thinker like Temple Grandin has, over time, perfected a lucid, funny, readable, down-to-earth, straight-shooting yet graceful prose style.

As a parent of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I found the writing in this book very information and very helpful. It helped to help bridge the gap between the thinking of an individual with ASD and those identified as neurotypicals.
Practical Wisdom.......2007-06-15
This book has been so helpful to me in understanding my son( who is mildly autistic). It also has been helpful to him--a few times a week we sit down and read thru one of the "rules" listed in the book, for example, "fitting in is often tied to looking and sounding like you fit in" and "everyone makes mistakes--it doesn't have to ruin your day". He particularly relates to the anecdotes that Temple and Sean share about their lives that relate to the rule. I think he feels less alone knowing that others have the same struggles that he does and I am grateful for how honest the authors are, (usually at their own expense!)in relating their experiences. It also is very readable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has a loved one with autism or Asperger's.
Fascinating Guide to Understanding & Teaching the Autistic Mind.......2007-03-29
Fascinating. One author with minimal, and one with maximum, emotionally-influenced autism, provides a range of insights for understanding and teaching minds on the autistic spectrum.
One important theme is that professionals often don't know what they are talking about and may do more harm than good, though many are trying and helping. Often, determined parents and common sense are the best approach, though understanding how to teach the autistic mind is difficult.
For example, one mother was aggravated over her son's tracking dirt in, constantly telling him to wipe his shoes and punishing him over time. One day she noticed as he came in that he bent down and carefully wiped the top of his shoes. Once she demonstrated what she meant by wiping one's shoes, there was no more problem.
Kids are unique. Being corrected about how to place eating utensils and napkins at a dinner table is a helpful learning experience for Temple, but a depressing condemnation for Sean. He sees his error as incompetence and something everyone else knows. Must first gain a perspective on how important this error is in the broader scheme of things.
The first half gives insights into how these two learned things and why they had troubles. The second half of the book gives ten rules of life that autism makes it difficult to understand and suggests ways of teaching these.

I am a teacher and we are the parents of a child with Asperger's Disorder who has many of the same issues that both authors had to deal with as children. This book is so extremely insightful and such a huge assistance for educators to see how and what they say to children has an affect upon a child's behaviors - good and bad. As a parent this book is a reaffirmation thay with love and patience - and consistency - good things can and do come true.
I would highly recommend this book to any person who has a difficult child in their home and wants to better understand the positions from which that child may be working. This book is for parents of any child, not just a child with autism.
