Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

To the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome, the Celtic warrior of the late Iron Age was the archetypal barbarian: savage, undisciplined, and bloodthirsty. In a clash of cultures that lasted almost 500 years, the rich and vibrant society in which he lived, fought, and died was virtually destroyed, becoming the stuff of myth and legend.

Covering the period from the first mention of the Celts by ancient Greek writers to the Roman conquest of Britain, this book examines the Celtic warrior, his society and his place within it, and the conflicts that would eventually destroy his world. Beautifully illustrated with many examples of Celtic art and craftsmanship, this book provides a fascinating insight into a culture whose legacy has endured to the present day.

5 out of 5 stars A really, really good read.......2007-10-05

Lords of Battle was a really, really good read. Many books on the Celts are more like references, with many nice pictures, discrete sections etc., books that you tend to dip into, but not read through. With Lords of Battle however, I read it cover to cover, and enjoyed it greatly. The text is great, the images beautiful, and its well turned out. As the title suggests, it is focused on Celtic Warrior, but not exclusively so, there is a lot of accompanying information. If you want to read only one book on the Celts (giving a broader view, linguistics, insular Celts etc), then it should be "The Celtic Empire" by Peter Ellis, but this book makes a good accompaniment, and there were a number of interesting perhaps "new" nuggets of information, that I have not found in other books on the Celts. For example the early retrograde movements of the Danubian Celts into Britain and what is now Belgium, some interesting things on the Celtiberians etc. Its an excellent addition to anyones library on the Celts.

5 out of 5 stars Unique and worthy of acquisition........2007-05-17

LORDS OF BATTLE: WORLD OF THE CELTIC WARRIOR covers the period from the first mention of the Celts by ancient Greek writers to the Roman conquest of Britain, blending lovely color illustration throughout with a survey rich in Celtic history. Chapters focus on the military might and sentiment of these early Celts, covering everything from appearance and dress to arms and rebellions. While its narrowed scope will appeal primarily to specialty holdings and libraries strong in early Celtic history, these collections will find the military focus unique and worthy of acquisition.

Book Description

Meticulously researched and imaginatively wrought, Warrior Queen is the sweeping epic of a flame-haired woman who would dare to challenge the vicious might of the Roman Empire-and whose name would echo throughout history.

In 43 A.D., Boudica became the queen of a Celtic tribe-and a Roman sympathizer. But after years of loyal service to the Empire, she would find herself brutally betrayed. With the conviction of a hero and the courage of a warrior, she united the Celts against their enemy. The fury of her unleashed vengeance threw the Roman forces into chaos, made her a goddess to her own people-and carried her into the history books as a true heroine of the British people.

Now, Alan Gold retells the story of Boudica in a novel that embraces all the fiery passion and intrigue of the Warrior Queen.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent read!.......2007-10-06

This was an excellent recounting of the story. The author seemed to have done thorough research and has a good understanding of the culture that existed at the time. I would highly recommend reading this book!

5 out of 5 stars Oh, please..........2007-04-07

As an ordained druid priestess, I'll be the first to admit that the amount we actually know about the ancient druids fills about 2 pages, and some of that was written by the romans themselves. Not exactly the best source for information. Everything else is speculation based on a few fragmentary references in Greek, Latin, and medieval Irish writings. What did the druids actually practice? Nobody knows!! So why try to create rituals for them in this book? Yes, OK, it's fiction. I get that. But gods, Cornwell did it SO much better in his Warlord Chronicles. I guess I'm spoiled by an actual author who IS a meticulous researcher.

Two stars (WHICH I CAN'T SEEM TO EDIT, HELLO???) instead of 0 for the roman bits that are correct. Everything else is completely fiction. I also rated this low for hokiness. Some of the dialogue is so ridiculous.

4 out of 5 stars Boudica history.......2007-01-18

This historical fiction novel brings to life the 1st century, AD, when Claudius and Nero were emperors of Rome, and Britain was being conquered by them. Assuming that the factual portions of the story are correct, he has done a good job of weaving a story around what facts remain about the rise and fall of Boudica. The way of life of the Celts are dramatized into a very readable book. I give this book a 4 star rating, mostly based on the enjoyment of experiencing life in the 1st century.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing, bloody, and brutal.......2006-11-16

I love historical-fiction books about the ancient times and that is why I bought this book. The cover grabbed my attention and the synopsis on the back grabbed everything else. This was one. good. book! So good infact that after I was finished I started doing a search on the Web to find out more about Boudicia. I highly recommed this book yall!!

Book Description

In the 1st century BC, Strabo wrote of the Celts: ‘The whole race... is madly fond of war, high-spirited and quick to battle... and on whatever pretext you stir them up, you will have them ready to face danger, even if they have nothing on their side but their own strength and courage’. This book gives an insight into the life of the Celtic warrior, and his experience of battle – on foot, on horseback, and as a charioteer. It also details Celtic society and studies the vital ritual nature of Celtic warfare, from the naked gaesatae to the woad-painted warriors.

4 out of 5 stars A good title for the amateur historian or wargamer.......2007-10-01

Like all Osprey books, this volume is intended to give the reader a basic introduction to the subject, rather than a deep academic understanding. This volume succeeds in that endeavor. The book describes the basic societal structure of the Celtic peoples in the time period addressed, with information on arms and equipment, rituals, approaches to warfare, etc. The color plates are well done.

This particular book does not in any way present a political argument regarding the relative cultural merits of the Celtic peoples versus the Romans, and it is hard to see whay a reviewer would attack it on those grounds. I can only assume from his review here and in a number of other books about the Celts that reviewer Guardala has some kind of bizarre axe to grind.

5 out of 5 stars Celtic Warrior.......2007-03-31

An essential book for someone interested in Iron Age European warfare. This book begins with an introduction to the identity of the Celts, and then goes on to give a chronology of major events in their history between the beginning of the Halstatt period and the Construction of Emperor Hadrianus' Wall. The next section tells specifically of the warrior's role in the structure of society, his spirituality, and how he could gain or improve his standing in the tribe. Next, the author gives a description of the appearance, dress, and battle gear of the Celts. After this is 'The Face of Battle' shows how the Celt fought and the Celtic warrior's experience in battle. The final section, 'Aftermath' tells of the warrior's superstitions and the importance of sacrifice, spoils of war, suicide, headhunting, and splendid burial in the warrior's culture. After this comes a brief glossary, biblography, places to visit, a detailed plate commentary, and an index. The plates, by Wayne Reynolds, are excellent, depicted colorful and powerful scenes.
Plate A shows us the standard Gaulish noble warrior, with his weapons, armor, clothing, and gear.
Plate B shows the Battle of Telamon, 225 BC, in which the Gaesati and the Gauls of northern Italy were defeated by the Roman Republic. Several naked Gaesati are shown trying to defend themselves from the legionaries' pila.
Plate C is a detailed depiction of the helmets, shields, spearheads, chainmail, and swords used by Gaulish warriors.
Plate D depicts a brightly-clad British chieftain meeting with a client warrior, whose young son is the foster-son of the chieftain. According to custom, the father and son do not acknowledge each other.
Plate E shows a horse-warrior of the Senones, a Celtic people of Cisalpine Gaul, and gives visual details on the gear of the Celtic cavalryman.
Plate F shows a young Cisalpine warrior displaying the severed head of a Roman soldier he has just slain in single combat.
Plate G, visually one of the most exciting in the book, shows the valiant charge of the Nervii and their fellow Belgian Gauls at the Battle of the Sambre, 57 BC. This Gaulish army was made almost entirely of infantry, yet they were upon the Romans so quickly that, had Caesar not arrived, several of his legions would have been routed.
Plate H gives us a British warrior, with his arms and chest decorated in swirling woad patterns, in his chariot with his similarily painted charioteer, who wears a headband, a symbol of the Celtic charioteer according to Irish myth.
Plate I shows several warriors like the one in the previous plate skirmishing with Caesar's legionaries during an invasion of Britain. The legionaries were unarmored and carried only sidearms, thus rendering them very vulnerable to the Celts with their chariots and longswords.
Plate J shows the fate of many warriors that were captured in battle-slavery in the southern world. The four captives in this picture, chained together and guarded by warriors, are being exchanged to Roman or Greek traders for wine.
This book, like all Osprey books, presents detailed information in a concise and jargon-free manner It explores the mindset and worldview of the Celtic warrior, and shows why, with their independent culture totally lacking in self-control, they were conquered by the Romans.
I would very highly recommend this book. I would give it 10 stars if I could!

5 out of 5 stars Great source for weapons, armour, tactics, and more!.......2006-08-31

Great source for weapons, armour, tactics, and more! The color plates inside alone are worth the reason to buy this...But it is also filled with great info and more!

1 out of 5 stars YAWN! READ PATRICK GEARY'S "MYTH OF NATIONS.".......2006-02-10

The commentary on the plates are good, but some of the plates seemed almost cartoonish. Certainly not up to Angus McBride's standard. Their rigid individualistic and ritualistic military methods ensured their destruction! The author is another excuse maker who can't accept that "Rome Triumphed against the odds." No one before the 18th century called themselves Celtic! These various tribal peoples had no permanent victories and their oral traditions prove nothing! "They refused to write their histories down. Since they were not a singular people with cities as in a CIVILIZATION, one should not be surprised that they rejected literacy" The written histories are largely backed by the archaeological record. Basically, there is little in this book that is new or insightful. If you like this topic read juliette Wood, Miranda Green, & Barry Cunliffe's books.

Yet another great one from Osprey. Great easy to read info and history on the Celtic Warrior from the 300 BC-AD 100 time period and the illustrations are flat out amazing. Highly recomended for anybody interested in the Celts as well as reenactors and SCA types!

5 out of 5 stars An excellent resource on the ancient Celts.......2007-10-01

This book is perhaps the most comprehensive one-volume survey of ancient Celtic history available. Filled with beautifal photos and illustrations, this volume covers in detail the rise and fall of the Celtic peoples in Europe in the ancient world. O Hogain describes the expansive Celtic experience in the ancient world from Britian and Ireland to Galicia in Turkey. O Hogain's descriptions of their cultural acheivements and military exploits shows that these warriors and craftsmen were a force to be reckoned with in the ancient world.

O' Hogain is indeed very sympathetic with his subjects, and understandably suspicious of Roman sources, which after all were written by authors entirely unsympathetic to the Celtic peoples. It is important to remember that a history is written by the victors, and may be viewed with suspicion accordingly. O' Hogain, however, does not wax poetic about the virtues of the Celtic peoples nor unduly demonize the Roman victors.

Nevertheless, O Hogain accurately describes the lack of central organization and what we recognize as modern military discipline that allowed the Celtic peoples to be defeated piecemeal by the better equipped, trained and logistically superior Roman forces.

As an aside, it is entirely irrelevant that the peoples we call the "Celts" did not use that word. The fact remains that these people shared a common cultural heritage and traditions, and are therefore properly studied as a single "people", and this volume does those people justice.

1 out of 5 stars THEY LOST, GET OVER IT LOSERS!.......2006-08-09

Contrary to some delusional reviewers, these arrogant goofs got their #%&*@'s kicked inside out by a handful of Romans{the real Latins}. In fact most everyone in Europe cleaned their clocks. This homage to them is a sad attempt to deconstruct historical truth. Just because the maps, index, and pictures are better than most revisionist garbage does not mean that the subject is a worthy one. One should just read the ancient authors and archaeology journals and forget the constant re-interpretations by writers with devious agendas.

5 out of 5 stars an excellent work on Celtic diversity.......2002-10-08

Beautiful produced with lots of excellent photos of statues, jewellery and places in Celtic History, this is a broader view than a lot of work. It covers who were the Celts, the push into Italy and then the thrust Eastward, covering the struggles of the Celts in the Mediterranean, the Collapse of Gaul and the fight for survival in the West. For someone searching to start their journey on just who were these people, what influence they made on the ancient world, this is an excellent starting point to understanding this warlike people.

5 out of 5 stars Celtic Culture: An Early Victim of "Diversity".......2001-07-02

This historical atlas-like offering is a record of the Celtic peoples, from their 1st Millenium B.C. entrance on the historical stage, to their withdrawal from their continental heartland into Western France, Ireland, and Wales.

The tale is well told and supported by helpful maps, plus photos of weapons, coins, statues, paintings, and drawings of the tall, fair, fearless, red-haired people. It seems the beautiful and gallant Celts, so fascinated later civilizations that the Romans and Greeks were compelled to depict Celts in many paintings and sculptures, such as "The Dying Gaul". (It's in there)

The early Celtic warriors extended their culture throughout most of Europe and into Asia Minor, as they conquered and settled the continent almost at will. Alexander the Great (355-323 BC) came to terms with them and turned his attention to the south and east of his Greek/Macedonian home base.

In 189 B.C., while addressing his troops, the Roman general Manlius called the Celts a fierce nation. He further stated: "Their tall physique, their flowing red hair, their huge shields and enormous swords", along with the songs they sing when marching naked into battle, "their howling and leaping, and the fearful din of arms as they bang their shields according to some ancestral custom -- all these things are designed to terrify!"

The archeological finds displayed in the book are of surprising excellence and sophistication for the 1st Millenium B.C. The bronze art-works and iron weaponry, both of which have been found plated with gold, tell the tale of an advanced people who spread throughout Europe, into Asia Minor, and perhaps beyond.

Apparenty the Celtic culture was an early victim of "diversity". Their settlers mingled and interbred with conquered and conquerors, alike. Thus, the Celtic civilization was infected with so much "diversity" that it disappeared in most of Europe...

The illustrations alone make this book a worthwhile purchase, but for those who can read, (advocates of "diversity" and social engineers are excused) the text is clear and easy to follow. An excellent appendix is included, which contains an "Alphabetial Listing of Celtic Peoples" including the area of Europe with which each is associated. There is also a bibliography for further research: go to it and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars The best general survey available, beautifully written.......2000-03-03

Celtic Warriors is the first widely available book of its kind in English: a scholarly survey of Iron Age Celtic culture that can be enjoyed by specialists and the general reader alike. Herein you will not find wild speculations or New Age wishful thinking; O'hOgain does an excellent job of interpreting the body of evidence available from the period of roughly 800 BCE to about 450 CE (the period when the designation "Celtic" can properly be applied to the indigenous cultures/languages of Western Europe). The author skillfully balances Classical historical accounts with archaeological remains (coins, inscriptions, weapons, grave plots, etc.)and later medieval Irish and Welsh epics. Indeed, the focus on antiquity (as opposed to the Middle Ages) makes this book the landmark study that it is. So many other books about the Celts give way too much coverage of the later medieval manuscripts (which are heavilly influenced by Christian and Germanic traditions) at the cost of the reader coming away with a some what blurred notion of what the term "Celtic" actually means in a cultural context. The section on Gaulish tribal names and their meanings/etymologies is a very nice feature and O'hOgain's comparative analysis of insular and continental tribal names is fantastic. Furthermore, he addresses a topic often ignored in other surveys: the British origins of Ireland's dominant east coast tribes. In the end the story of the Celts is a tragic one. These mighty warbands had the power to overrun all of Europe and wipe out all who cared to stand up against them...but all evidence indicates that the celts had no sense of "nationhood" and they spent more time fighting each other than they did threatening outside enemies. In a sense, the Celts were not defeated by Romans or Germans: they defeated themselves.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting and Fun!.......2006-06-21

I was expecting a very different book when I read this! Instead of long, boring text book, I found it fun to read as well as informative. I especially loved the pictures as I love art. The insight on not only King Arthur, but Merlin, Quenevere, and other legendary characters was very interesting. It was nice to read some new ideas about the orgin of King Arthur, however some of the opinions did seem a little recycled. Also included were examples of stories, and lots of citings from medival writers. If you are looking for a good read about King Arthur I highly recommend this. It is fun to read, and also very informing, as well as visually entertaining!

5 out of 5 stars A great book!.......2004-12-01

In this wonderful book, author John Matthews presents the reader with Britain's King Arthur in his many forms. Beginning with a history of the Dark Ages, and the early historical resources that mention King Arthur, the author moves through all of the Arthurian legends in their manifold forms. All of the characters you are familiar with are here, and some are presented in an entirely new light. For example, in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Vita Merlini, Merlin is presented as a prophet and wild man.

This is a great book! In a surprisingly small package, it contains a lot of information about King Arthur and the other characters of the stories, going well beyond the stories presented by Hollywood. Also, I must say that the many colorful pictures make this book a joy to read. So, if you are interested in King Arthur, then you really must get this book! I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars This is a REally Fun and Educational Read.......2004-10-08

If you like to read about Arthurian legend and want to see the facts behind the myths, then this is a good book to turn to. It is filled with many written information historians have found as well as famous places during that time (Ie: Glastonbury and the place where they believe Camelot existed) And it is wonderfully illistrated too. Beautiful pictures of archiological findings and buildings and such. IT's such an astounding read as well as fun pictures to look at. Get this if you like that sort of thing.

4 out of 5 stars Fascinating historical study
.......1997-05-17

Celts are big right now. Seems like everyone and their dog is claiming Scottish/Irish/whateverish ancestry, which neo-pagans and goths alike sport knotwork jewelry and call themselves things like Rhiannon and Cerridwen and so forth. And there are a lot of books out there, many of which are so sure in their assertions of things that happened millenia ago that you wonder where their bibliographies are.

Miranda Green has, in contrast, skillfully charted a path through myth, legend, history, and archeology to present us with a fairly brief, but overall comprehensive portrait of the divine feminine in the Celtic world. Drawing on sources as diverse as Welsh lore and ancient shrines buried beneath modern-day cathedrals, she illustrates the influence of goddesses in this ancient world, how their power was transmuted to that of saints with the dominance of Christianity, and how the pedestals on which they stood compare with the role of women in their society.

Green is also willing to leave certain questions open, to point out that current historical inquiry does have its limitations, and that there are many things about the Celtic world that we will likely never know. But from such well-known deities as Rhiannon, the Morrigan, and Blodduwedd, to lesser-known guardians of springs and hills, Greeen takes us on a guided tour of the Goddess as She was revered in this particular pre-Christian world

5 out of 5 stars The Enchanted Well.......2007-07-17

My niece Beti read the enchanted well. She wondered what was the tune playing within, not knowing what it was, she composed her own tune so taken was she by the story. Her description of the piece she composed to go with the story tells all anyone will ever need to know about this book.

She called her tune "Longing for union"... obeying the metaphor which states that every union we long to establish on the 'human' love plane..in the horizontal dimension, is really a desire for divine love...in the vertical dimension it is the only love which one can fade into when enfolded in its mutual embrace. And disappear refers to one's entire mind vanishing into an experience wherein, at last, all suffering ends and complete contentment nests in your heart.....to love humanly is an exercise in learning to love the divine...reality in fact...and to cease from all suffering!
