i have found the cd that came with this book to be a great review so mush so i have not even looked at the book much i really like the way the cd gives an explanation after you awnser each question.
A lot of help.......2006-08-30
I used Radiography PREP by Saia for review which was very helpful. Then I bought this book to take several practice tests. (I liked this book because in the back it had the answers along with a thorough explination.) The combo worked great because I passed with flying colors!
The Experience of a returning RT.......2006-03-29
I originally sat for the ARRT exam in 1973 and ventured into x-ray sales in 1978 and then away from radiology altogether in 1990. Since I didn't do the CEU's, I gave up my registry. I recently learned that the window of opportunity to get back in was rapidly closing and I needed to apply to retake the exam by 4/1/06. I took the exam on 3/20/06 and just learned that I passed with a 91...the same score I received in 1973! I no longer had any of my text books and so, I researched and bought two resources: F.A. Davis' Practice Guide for the Radiography Examination and Mosby's Comprehensive Review.
I liked Mosby's for all the study information it contained. It was laid out in a very straightforward, organized format that was easy to study. I also liked the format on the disk for both studying and the exam. Some of the questions seemed pretty elementary. In fact, after consistently scoring in the 90's on the Mosby tests, I took an F.A. Davis test and scored a 71! Davis was primarily a test resource. There were formulas in the front that were useful, but the real value was in the testing. All told, I seriously studied about 3 weeks before taking the registry. Obviously, this combination worked well for me.
I have the same complaint about each: there were several questions from each disk where they marked a question wrong but the rationale they supplied said my answer was right. It made me question the validity of other questions. They need to go back and review all their questions again and revalidate them.
USE THIS BOOK TO STUDY & PASS.......2006-03-20
I checked out and bought some of the other review books (Mosby's being one), and I have to say this book turned out to be the best. I didn't really think it would be that good of a book when I started looking at it, but it is. I took the first test in the book and got a 66%, then I studied everything I missed and tried to figure out what I didn't understand. On the second test I got a 71% and continued to study. By the time I took the last one I got a 80%. Within a week I took the ARRT test and scored a 94%! the only questions I didn't expect on the exam had to do with artifacts and processor artifacts, which this book doesn't really cover. Also I recommend highlighting sections in the test review that you have a hard time with, I used a second highlight color for all radiation information. Good luck. By the way I passed the registry in Aug 2005.
Recommended.......2006-01-27
I agree with a previous reviewer that this author knows her stuff. This book is very good for studying for the ARRT. The questions helped me to focus on what to study. I also definitely recommend

Volume 2 isbn 193302304x
Volume 3 isbn 1933023066
These 3 volumes also has excellent questions on all the topics tested on the ARRT. It made my life a lot easier.
For products for the house, I highly recommend

Fields of the Fatherless is a Five.......2007-03-09
This book is a good read for anyone, especially those interested in or having adopted a child. It is directed at the professed believer who claims to want to honor and obey God. The author gives many scriptural examples of how the Father intended his children to behave in relation to those among us who are less fortunate and therefore needy. It touched my husband and me deeply as we are the parents of an adopted daughter who died four years ago. We have purchased several additional copies to give to others who for different reasons will be blessed by this excellent book.
No more blinders!.......2006-06-15
"In this world you are an orphan; eagerly anticipating your adoption as God's child.
In this world you are a widow; longing for reunion with your Bridegroom.
In this world you are a stranger; a pilgrim waiting to become a citizen of heaven.
And in this world, God has called you to care for the orphan, the stranger, and the widow."
So starts Tom Davis' short, but powerful book on compassion to the orphan, the stranger, and the widow in Fields of the Fatherless.
I'd highly recommend this book to all followers of Jesus, regardless of your call to adopt. It's applicable to the entire body of Christ.
Ultilizing the metaphor of the Old Testament practice of leaving a portion of your field for the 'stranger, the fatherless, and the widow' (Deut. 24:19f), Davis offers a passionate plea for living a life of compassion to the less fortunate.
These less fortunate (strangers, widows, orphans) are mentioned over 60 times in Scripture! Yet we tend to have blinders on when reading our Bibles. Studies show that Christians give less than non Christians to AIDS related causes (the leprosy of our day).
But in ignoring the orphans, the widows, and the strangers, we are missing out on an incredible, joy that can only come with sacrifice. For in the eyes of the orphan, we catch a glimpse of God.
Davis writes: "To feed, clothe, and treat the fatherless as members of one's own family is to live out the call of Christ." (55) This book is a great advocacy tool in raising up the church to live out its call to the fatherless. I will be passing it out to my senior pastor, and our mission board to read and (I hope) inspire. We'd encourage you to do the same. It's a quick read, consisting of over 6 chapters, and refrains from using technical adoption jargon. Rather, it simply and passionate pleads the case for the downtrodden in our world.
"But whoever has this world's gods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?"--I John 3-16-17
Jesus speaks through this book.........................2006-03-21
.......and you will hear Him, loud and clear. Beautifully written and easy to read. This book is not complex and meant for study. It is a quick read of 2 hrs or so. It is a book of receiving and giving. You will receive a fresh anointing, a new hope and in turn you will be called to give it away. To share the hope and joy of Christ with those who are fatherless in spirit and in body. Amazing read!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW!.......2006-03-17
This book is absolutely fabulous! I read it in less than 24 hours. It will move you to ACT. It is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. I sent an email to the author through his website - just for feedback - and received a personal response! This guy is 'for real' and is committed to helping orphans. Check out the Children's Hopechest organization after you read this book.
MOVING ...LIFE CHANGING!.......2006-01-18
Thank you Tom Davis for this powerful reminder.
This is a great book that will provoke the reader, gently prodding them into activity...and all the while raising our awareness of God's blessing in our lives.
A memorable read!

Customer Reviews:
The first technical book I ever owned.......2006-11-11
I bought this book new about thirty years ago. It was $11 then, if I remember right. I ordered it from a catalog; amazon.com and home computers didn't exist. So the edition I am writing about is the one thirty years ago.
This book contains all the hints and kinks and even secrets about setting up machinery that you would normally have to learn by working with someone experienced who knows what he is doing.
The book touches on just about everything. The rigging section tells about how to take care of rope, how to tie knots, how to estimate the weight of something by lifting it with a pinch bar. There is a blacksmith section showing the tools used and some basic forging techniques.
There is a lot of discussion of power transmission, such as flat belts, V belts, shafts, bearings, couplings and such. It shows how to align an electic motor so that the pulleys on the motor and the machine will be in line with each other.
This is not a project book. It doesn't have plans on how to build something. But if you have a machine like a hammer mill, a lathe, an air compressor, a blower, a furnace, or whatever, big and mean, this book shows how to put a sling on it, lift it with a crane, move it, build a floor to put in on, put it where you want it, line it with other machines, put a motor on it, line up the pulleys to power it up, bolt it down, lubricate it, and even a little about how to build a roof over it.
You will have to have a big pocket to put this book in.
An Audel Classic!.......2004-04-06
I wondered where the great Audel brand had gone until I saw this book, probably one of the most known books of all the old Audel's I have in my collector's library. Anyone who does anything with his hands, whether at home in the garage or on the shop floor should buy this book.
Great revision!.......2004-01-14
I'm a shop foreman and I need to know A to Z about everything mechanical and how to fix it. This is the only book I could ever find with millwrights information in it and blacksmithing, but all I had was my dog-eared, ancient copy. Until now. Finally a new edition and none of the good material has been disturbed. This a must-have for every shop-every shop foreman.

Book Description
Generally regarded as the most important of the Civil War campaigns conducted in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, that of 1864 lasted more than four months and claimed more than 25,000 casualties. The armies of Philip H. Sheridan and Jubal A. Early contended for immense stakes. Beyond the agricultural bounty and the boost in morale to be gained with a victory, events in the Valley would affect Abraham Lincoln's chances for reelection in the November 1864 presidential canvass.
The eleven essays in this volume reexamine common assumptions about the campaign, its major figures, and its significance. Taking advantage of the most recent scholarship and a wide range of primary sources, contributors examine strategy and tactics, the performances of key commanders on each side, the campaign's political repercussions, and the experiences of civilians caught in the path of the armies. The authors do not always agree with one another, but, taken together, their essays highlight important connections between the home front and the battlefield, as well as ways in which military affairs, civilian experiences, and politics played off one another during the campaign.

Nice collection of essays on the 1864 Shenandoah Valley battles.......2007-04-22
This is an interesting collection of essays on the Shenandoah Campaign of 1864. Gary Gallagher has pulled together a set of essays that, even if they sometimes contend with one another, helps the reader get a better understanding of the 1864 conflict.
The dramatic personae in this action include Lee's "bad old boy," Jubal Early, the combative but capable Confederate commander, versus Phil Sheridan, the hyperactive cavalry commander given charge of the Union forces in the Valley. Key players on the Union side: John Crook, leader of the "Army of West Virginia," William Emory of Sheridan's army, the cavalry (Torbert as head, with Merritt and Custer, and Devin as key subordinates). On the Confederate side: infantry commanders such as Gordon, Rodes and Ramseur and cavalry leaders Lomax, Munford, and Rosser. There was a lot of talent on each side, but Early's army was heavily outnumbered (maybe 40,000 troops under Sheridan and 14,000 or so under Early). Such numbers presaged an almost inevitable defeat of Early, with as combative a Union general as Sheridan on the other side (it can safely be said that prior Valley commanders such as Patterson, Hunter, Sigel, and so on may well have wasted such an advantage; Sheridan, despite his flaws as a combat commander, was unlikely to lose under such conditions).
What is nice about this volume is that the authors of the individuals chapters try to assess what actually happened and how good (or bad) commanders actually were, rather than repeating commonly understood judgments. What about the "Woodstock Races" after the Confederate cavalry's disastrous defeat at Tom's Brook? Confederate ineptitude? Or Union overwhelming force? What about Early versus Sheridan as commander of an army? Gallagher's chapter addresses this in a sensitive manner.
At Cedar Creek, what happened? Did Early's so-called "fatal halt" lose the day? Or were the Confederates so outnumbered and outgunned that--aside from total incompetence in Union leadership--they simply could not triumph? Another essay explores the generalship of the 6th Corps commander, Horatio Wright. The conclusions is that he did a good job as commander after the surprise attack while Sheridan was absent and may not have received the credit due him. Still, his performance in other venues in the Civil War was uneven. Here, however, he probably deserves good grades.
And so on. The essays in this volume provoke some thinking about the Valley Campaign of 1864. This is a good work to look at. The chapters are somewhat uneven (as to be expected from an edited volume), but--all in all--this is a useful examination of the subject.
Great Essays on the 1864 Confederate Collapse in the Valley: Early v. Sheridan .......2006-11-06
Another one of Gallagher's collection of great essays of a campaign while touting the greatest historians on the subject. The authors in this case cover the 1864 Valley situation from Early's arrival to save Lynchburg to his run at Washington to Sheridan's final mobilizing drive that is momentarily derailed by Early's great shock attack at Cedar Creek that crushes the unprepared Federals. But of course, the Union's regrouping at Cedar and counter attack virtually destroys Early's army. The essays cover the key battles and strategies including the make up of Early, Sheridan and a respectful view of the not so flamboyant and thus unappreciated General Horatio Wright who held things together at Cedar Creek when Sheridan arrived on the field. The latter part of the book also includes the social effect the war had on its population particularly as the means to feed the Confederate war machine was destroyed as part of the grand union strategy. Early and the Confederate Army no doubt fought heroically enough to challenge the record of Stonewall; however, they were literally overwhelmed by numbers and better horses and equipment. Of course, once confident, Sheridan keeps the pressure on with his young lions, Custer, Merritt and Torbet. A grand example of that is Robert E. L. Krick's essay on the battle of Tom Brook between the Confederate and Union cavalry that is extremely one sided, resulting in a total crushing of the Confederate horse. It's amazing that the Confederates were able to reorganize and launch what was at first a highly successful attack at Cedar Creek 10 days later. This recovery and attack is a tribute to Early, who unfortunately used his infamous tongue lashing too harshly afterwards demonstrating one of his worst character flaws. The other great aspect of these talented authors is their research, which is so impeccable that they sort out the historical misrepresentations and get to the truth of the matter, albeit at the expense of some such as John Gordon, the great fighter and embellisher. The only negative, I wish there was a summary of the battles in date line fashion along with a map that showed where all the key battles were fought. I also wish the summary of the situation prior to Early's arrival included a discussion of General "Grumble" Jones battle of Piedmont where he lost his life trying to stop General Hunter's attack of the valley. As an additional note, these fine historians get together almost every summer and provide excellent tours of the valley, a treat worth considering.
Another volume in a good series.......2006-06-12
This book of essays covers aspects of the Shenandoah Valley campaign of 1864. As is the case with all the volumes in this series, a number of military, social, and political issues are discussed. The essays are generally well-written and provide insights into some topics not evaluated in general histories of the campaign. Particularly good is the essay comparing the general performances of Sheridan and Early. One is left realizing that, given the resources available to each, Early actually did better than could have been expected and Sheridan made more errors than he should have. Worth the price of the entire volume, is the excellent biographical monograph about General Horatio Wright. This is the first attempt ever to provide a biographical sketch of this important but overlooked officer. The essay is balanced, well-researched, and very worthwhile to the serious student of this period.
This book is not for someone unfamiliar with this campaign but, as is the case with the rest of the series, is of value to the experienced Civil War reader.
Book Description
This book seeks to explore, in a single, short convenient text, the complex relationship between Africa and the Americas from the early sixteenth century through the end of the twentieth century. Beginning with a preview of the relations between Africa and Europe prior to 1500, the work covers chronologically the transatlantic slave trade, domestic slave trading, slave systems, the abolition movements, and the aftermath of emancipation throughout the Americas. Several chapters provide sweeping surveys of broad regions such as British North America, the Caribbean, Mesoamerica, the Andean countries and Latin America. Others deal with specific territories such as the United States, Venezuela, Cuba or Brazil. The book begins with a chapter on African antiquity and early contacts with Europe. It continues with a comparative history of the slave trade and emancipation. Other topics include the role of free blacks throughout the Americas, women and gender relations, and African-American relations with Europeans and Native American populations. Finally, the book concludes with chapters on modern race and economic relations in the Americas and a chapter on the continuing ties between African Americans and Africa. "On the whole Africans in the Americas accomplishes its purpose well, there is a great deal of fascinating information here. A very useful text." The International Journal of African Historical Studies 28, 633-65 (1995) Michael L. Conniff earned degrees at UC-Berkeley and Stanford (Ph.D. 1976) and has published a number of books on modern Latin American history, most recently A History of Modern Latin America (with Lawrence Clayton) and Populism in Latin America. STAN LEE FINALLY TEAMS-UP WITH HIS CREATIONS!.......2007-04-14
It's Stan "The Man" Lee teaming up with some of the most recognisable and iconic characters ever to be created -- by him, no less! What else need you know?
Now, if only Marvel will allow him to Team-Up with Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy and maybe even Jesus Christ (assuming that Big Foot's too busy to return his calls, of course!) then - and only then - will my comic collection be complete!

Book Description
This text highlights the indispensable role of school counselors today, namely as change agents in an increasingly complex and fluctuating school system. Informed by emerging standards of practice and current research, the book adopts the salutary perspective of solution-focused brief therapy as its foundation. It outlines practical and time-sensitive strategies for school counselors to use with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
The Solution-Focused School Counselor encourages readers to envision and proactively construct interactions with students, families, and staff that contribute not only to the formation of an exceptional school, but to the shaping of an effective professional practice. Blending current theory into practice, the authors have consulted research across a variety of disciplines and have related it in an understandable format. School counselors will find this book useful either as a professional resource to be read from cover-to-cover, or as a reference tool from which specific sections may be consulted.
This book is an excellent resource for school counselors and students alike. It is also useful for school psychologists and administrators as well as anyone interested in making a difference in the school setting.

Seeing Problems Through a New Lens.......2002-08-23
Unlike most books related to the field of counseling, The Solution-Focused School Counselor addresses the biggest constraint of school counselors: TIME. While counselors have a vast assortment of theoretical approaches to incorporate into their practice, most theories assume an unlimited amount of time. Such is not the case within the fixed time that a counselor is given to handle an overwhelming number of students in each day.
Solution-focused counseling is not a compilation of techniques, but rather a philosophy of how to approach students' problems. At the heart of solution-focused counseling is the concept of exceptionality: looking for instances when the problem does not exist, and then using those instances to formulate solutions. Therefore, the counselor's goal is to turn the attention away from the negative and to focus on what is positive. By jumping right into the solution-finding process, time is not wasted on investigating all the reasons that the problem exists (particularly reasons that may be out of the student's control).
I would highly recommend The Solution-Focused School Counselor for both beginning and well-seasoned counselors. This book is direct, concise, and saturated with helpful suggestions to implement the Solution-Focused model into individual and group counseling, parent conferences, and teacher consultations.
Changing how we think and do.......2001-03-15
Having surveyed the growing literature, Davis and Osborn have managed to provide a very succint, practical and up-to-date overview of Solution-focused counseling. Steve de Shazer and his wife, Insoo Kim Berg, first distilled the wisdom of Milton Erickson, psychiatrist and hypnotherapist, and developed a very influential school of interventions, without formal hypnosis, for the last 15-20 years. It is the change in perspective in developing new ways of thinking, believing and doing that is most valuable for any person. In contrast to traditional approaches, the focus is on the student's own competencies, strengths, possibilities and solutions. Counseling is structured and time limited. The goals are set jointly by the student and counselor, behavior-oriented, measureable, action-oriented... p. 44. Numerous specific strategies, such as highlighting exceptions, the classic "scaling question" of 1 to 10, that even surfaced in Woody Allen and other movies, the "miracle question", with the modified "dream question", the use of "instead", "coping questions", "relationship questions"... are all clearly summarised here. You also get a glimpse of applications of solution-focus to groups, parents, teacher-education and schools. This book is worth repeated study. The principles and strategies of the solution-focus perspective are not only useful for school counselors, but also for any person in daily life.
Product Description
This superb fingerpicking reference book features 101 authentic, traditional blues fingerstyle licks for guitar. The goldmine of licks is divided into the following categories: Four-beat licks; Eight-beat licks; Introductions and turnarounds. The licks are written in both standard notation and guitar tablature, and recorded at a moderate speed on the companion CD. This is not a method book for beginners, but a nice collection of licks for guitarists who have some fingerstyle ability and want to do some exploring. Another GREAT guitar book from Red Dog Music Books.
