When I Lay My Isaac Down.......2007-10-03
I read this book first. Then I read A New Kind of Normal...and BOTH books were provacative. They have enriched my life. I so admire Carol Kent and her family. THANK YOU...jh
Very Helpful.......2007-09-13
This book is a comfort to all who have gone through horrible stressful situations and will help with thought processes of how to get through a tough situation. Excellent book!
Powerful Book.......2007-08-31
The Kent family story is tragic. Carol Kent's ability to relate her Isaac to anyone else's Isaac strikes the heart with honesty and truth. I purchased this book to share with a struggling friend, but wanted to read it first... I'm so glad I did. And my friend... has now purchased this book for a friend of hers. You will "think" when you read this book.
Relinquishing Your Isaac on the Altar.......2007-07-30
"When I Lay My Isaac Down" is the story of the desperate response of Carol and Gene Kent when they received the news that their son, Jason Paul, had been arrested for first degree murder.
Carol is clear and open in communicating the pain they have suffered through this tragedy. Feelings of hurt, shame, guilt, and unspeakable horror left them devastated.
Surrounded by a support group of "stretcher bearers" who offered quiet encouragement and words of comfort, and very real practical help as Carol, Gene, Jason Paul, and his wife April lived through their sorrow and bereavement.
Carol's writing resonates with hope, as she shares their story and the stories of others who also have met loss and trauma. These are stories of love, redemption, and reconciliation in times of crisis.
Each chapter closes with some questions for reflection on God's enduring, unconditional love. Responding to these in writing may help the reader learn to interpret the mysteries between the strange providential circumstances allowed by God and what we know of Him.
Carol's challenge is to change the way we think about personal challenges. She offers eight power principles to help in the process of your personal crisis, your Isaac, and your offering on the altar.
Compassion, comfort, and caring describe Carol and her book "When I Lay My Isaac Down." A Poignant and Memorable Chronicle of Tragedy and Triumph.
Hope in spite of devastating circumstances.......2007-07-16
Carol Kent has written a book from her heart that has helped many of my family and friends deal with loss of a loved one or extremely difficult and sad circumstances. I have given this book to many hurting and sad loved ones who have told me that it was a tremendous help. I can't recommend this book highly enough! You will be encouraged and blessed.

Must Read for Students.......2006-05-23
This book is a must read for all students in a secular environment, and for anyone seeking a reasonable defense of the Christian faith. Evolution and moral relativism are not satisfying answers logically or practically. Geisler does a masterful job of removing the scientific underpinnings of evolutionary faith and establishing a well reasoned defense of Intelligent Design. He further takes on issues such as justice and absolute moral standards vs. relativistic morality and judicial philosophy. THe last section of the book points to every man's need for Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord and establishes the Bible, as God's revelation, as the only proper epistemoligical starting point.
A must-read!.......2006-04-15
This book sat on my shelf collecting dust for nearly 6 years. It wasn't until I found myself as a first-year teacher needing a strategy to refute evolution and a darwinistic view of our world that I even felt compelled to pick it up. This book is an excellent resource...logical, methodical, and sound-minded in its application of reason to matters of faith. I highly recommend it just as strongly to one longing to worship the Lord God with all his mind, as to another who is still unsure of the intellectual credibility of the Christian faith. In terms of books that have changed my life, this title will rank with the best of them...only coming in behind the Bible itself, and C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity.
Must have reference on your shelf!!.......2005-08-23
This is a good referance book for any Christian. Specially for College students. It will not get outdated soon. So buy it read it and keep it for future referance. It is very useful. LOTS of information there...
Perfect starting point.......2005-04-07
For many years now, Christian apologetics has been a scattered, unorganized field, full of random facts that didn't really come together to form a coherent picture. As someone who is very skeptical and has struggled with whether or not to believe in the Christian worldivew, that was always very frustrating for me when attempting to do research. Unshakable Foundations has completely changed that, and has in a sense revolutionized Christian apologetics. Most of these ideas were always out there, but Bocchino and Geisler have given them structure, starting with no assumptions (one of the very first topics in the book is whether there is even such a thing as truth) to build an airtight case for Christianity that is just about impossible to get around. Jesus and the Bible are not even mentioned until near the end of the book, undercutting any charges of bias or unreasonable assumptions. It's just basic logic, pure and simple, and it is stunning how the authors take that logic to show how it can only lead to one conclusion. This is a great book for Christians and non-Christians alike, young and old, seekers and believers. For anyone who takes seriously questions about our existence, meaning, a higher power, etc., there is no better starting point than Unshakable Foundations.
a great concise, comprehensive book.......2004-12-21
I gave this book five stars, because altough it does touch on many things Geisler has addressed already, it is still a great book. this book covers just so many of the daily issues that Christians face every day. the book has some great illustrations, and instructs Christians how to think critically and to use apologeics practically which is a need. If anyone want's an apologitic book that covers many different issues, this is the book.

Book Description
Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver, children of slaves, overcame seemingly insurmountable barriers to find renown in the fields of education and science. Both men retained strong personalities that occasionally came into conflict. Like iron sharpening iron, their differences served to refine and define their collaborative work. An abiding faith in Christ and sense of divine appointment guided them through a world of dark prejudice with humility and self-confidence. They quietly proved their oppressors wrong and along the way made remarkable discoveries and contributions that have inestimably benefited mankind to this day.

If you need to be humbled....read this book.......2003-02-11
I am reminded by people like George Carver and Booker Washington that I have done so little, while they accomplished so very much. Besides the awe inspiring historical accounts of these two saints, the book is written with a kind of zeal that is obvious to the reader. It is obvious that the author loved writing it as much as we enjoy reading it (either that or he fakes it really well).
I have only a few books that I will make my children read (when they come of age)....this is one of them.
Men of Sacrifice.......2000-04-20
John Perry has delivered the goods as a researcher and biographer. In this book about two luminaries of the 20th Century, who brought the light of their torches from the 19th, we have a book that will inspire everyone. There are places where it will not leave you tearless.
Balance, honesty and contextual historicism are characteristic of Perry's work.
Most reading it will concur with this reviewer that Perry has found a niche in reminding us of those persons of sacrifice who are such a rare type of leader in this 21st century.
Take time to read this book and discover Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver whose lives transcended racial prejudice, reviling, misunderstanding and jealousy.

Handling Persecution by Faith.......2006-07-09
After LIVING ON THE RAGGED EDGE, COMBAT fAITH had also been a very influential book in my life in my personal pentecost in 1986. The government had been trying to brainwash me into becoming a homosexual so that I would fit in better with the people in Chemistry. But I would not give in because of the Holy Spirit and faith in God.
Hal had discussed how tha faith of POW's had enabled them to withstand brainwashing by their captors. Except that this is America we're talking about and not North Korea!
Hal also witnessed about how God had striken dead a college professor who had tried to block him from speaking on his campus. I had looked back at my life and I also could see that God has dispatched several of my enemies to the grave-including some big name politicains or their relatives. I began looking in the Bible and could see a precidence for this in Scripture. God is no respector of persons, the Bible says.
Also the thing about Moses having lived in obscurity as a shepherd for 40 years after having killed an Egyptian government official and having fled Egypt as being a time of testing and character formation, also impressed me. Somwhow, I don't believe that God is through with my life. Maybe I will live to fight better another day?!
Combat Faith.......2006-02-17
As always this book is an excellent Christian book. It tells it like it is directly from the Bible.I can't get enough of Hal's books.
Instruction on Spiritual Warfare.......2004-06-29
"The issue of faith pervades every aspect of our relationship with God and our service for Him," writes Hal Lindsey. Faith is given to us to be used and this book helps you to use it effectively. Consider Lindsey's comments on Hebrews 11:11 "By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because he considered Him faithful who had made the promise." Lindsey notes, "The more we learn about God, the more we become certain of the things for which we hope." He says our confidence in God grows as we know Him better. He goes on to add that learning about God is a result of spending time with Him.
His discussion on the faith and works issue is helpful. Along similar lines he talks about resting from works and not being subject to the law.
On the Providence of God: "God never allows anything to happen in a beliver's life by accident." While on that subject he mentions that God's power is released when we realize we are helpless on our own to bring about God's will. As most experienced Christians realize, "Sometimes God's leading for our life doesn't make sense at all from the human viewpoint." As one reads the Bible, one sees this has historically been the case, but God's ways are higher than our ways and he knows what is best.
This book promotes God dependency, not man self-sufficency. It achieves the goal of the author, i.e., it teaches you how to use the gift of faith God has given you.
Essential Spiritual Guidance for the Struggling Believer.......1999-08-08
In Combat Faith, clearly the author's finest effort of his prolific career, Hal Lindsey has produced the ultimate work that clearly illuminates the historical and spiritual connections between the Old and the New Testaments. Those of the Jewish faith should read it not only as an aid to help them understand their own faith better, but also with the purpose of gaining greater understanding regarding the question of why Christians place such a high value on the Old Testament. And believers in the New Testament will find themselves challenged and refreshingly inspired to renew their commitment to their faith and journey with God, which is no small feat in our day and age. Yet Hal Lindsey has done all of this here with explosive agility and humility. No amount of hyperbole is needed to convey the value of this book-a mere sampling of the various chapters will transport the reader on a journey that takes him from the arid desert of Sinai where a group of 3 million wanderers struggle to believe in a God who has proven His love for them significantly to a man who's death on a cross 2,000 years ago solidifed, once and for all time, that the same God is just as concerned and committed to all of His creation. Combat Faith offers more than merely an elucidation of the oft-pondered and plundered subject of faith; it is virtually a how-to manual that shows, through example after enlightening example, the specific steps that should be taken in order to have the most profound and fulfilling experience with the Creator of the Universe. It's an adventure that will stay with you forever.
This book gets to what is essential in our walk with God.......1998-08-27
This book in the stylings of Lindsay has to be his best. It teaches apart from anything else what is needed by us, and what is wanted by our God. Total faith and dependency on him. Lean on him, despite of what we see. God said" he would not leave nor forsake us." he did not say everything would always be pleasant. take hold of this faith, find the biggest Goliath in your life. And slay it by the confession of your faith, and the power of our Almighty father.

God is Great, Terrorists Suck.......2005-08-05
Of course God exists. So does Satan. So do terrorists. Often in this world evil wins. Evil won on 9/11. Sometimes God has no control over certain events and people get killed, animals get abused, the land gets destroyed, etc. Evil does win in the world every second of every day. Having faith in God helps keep evil away. It can't always but it can help indeed. We do know that in the end God will win. In the meantime we need to do all we can to defeat evil. That ain't easy but it is possible.
He exists.......2003-10-10
I would like to say to the person who wrote that God doesn't exist, that you are wrong. God exists. He loves you and me, even though you have turned your back on Him. There is a reason that your husband and friends died on that terrible day. We don't know what that reason is, but God does. He knows what is best for all of us. I am sorry that your husband and friends died, but if they were Christians, you can take comfort in knowing that they are with their Redeemer now. When we get to Heaven, you and I will both stand accountable for our sins. If we are Christians, then God will forgive us for those sins, because Jesus died to wash them away. However, if we're not Christians, we will spend eternity suffering in Hell. A person cannot prove that God exists, but if you look around you at creation, you can see His handwork there. Nothing on this earth could have come into being without God's will. If you look at the lives of Christians who have suffered for their faith throughout the centuries, you can see that they were holding onto Something. Even through terrible torture and pain, Christians knew that they couldn't deny Christ. They knew that He was real because He was alive in them. I know that God lives because He lives in me too.
I am looking forward to reading this book.
Some ways the world was changed on 9-11.......2003-09-24
"As the Towers Fell" could not have been written 2 1/2 years ago. Few would have predicted a catastrophe of such magnitude. New Yorkers were not known for their open sharing of spiritual experience. Patterns of faith or the lack thereof were not what one spoke about to friends and family. The climate has changed.
This book tells the stories of 24 persons whose lives were drastically altered by what happened that September morning. The book is divided into sections: stories of those who died, as remembered by co-workers and family; survivors of the attack,in their own words; and the experiences of rescuers and volunteers. The author was and is involved as a director of partnerships and volunteers. Here is an immensely valuable record of faith being put to the test, in these "Stories of Unshakable Faith on 9-11."
very inspiring.......2003-08-14
thanks for such an inspiring book of stories of such real people. I lost my good friend and colleague also and she is written about in this book.Susan's live will be remembered after her life has ended. I see it as a legacy to those whose faith kept them going even in the midst of such a haneous crime. They will inspire others so even though they died, they will continue to encourage others.
THERE is a God!.......2003-08-14
I found that as I read this book, I found a sense of hope that God is in charge in the end. Very inspirational! Thanks!
