Loved this book. Very clear and easy to read, we just started incorporating the ideas but I have high hopes for the process. It keeps things realistic which is a nice change.

I bought this book because my granddaughter is becoming overweight and I want to help her and my daughter to work on this problem. I am an RN and yet the information in this book was priceless because despite what I know and understand medically, the information on what works for the teens by teens could not be learned in nursing school. I have completed the book and have sent it on to Arizona from Texas so that my daughter and granddaughter can read it. I also took some of the information on keeping a daily journal and portion control and have lost 5 pounds since purchasing this book. I would recommend this book to all ages. The book also lists many other references for children and obesity problems.

This writer has done her homework. Weight Loss Confidential is well researched. In a compassionate voice, Anne Fletcher shares the real-life experiences of teens who have successfully lost weight and kept it off. Very inspiring for teens, their families and those of us who work with people struggling with their weight. In this book, we see what is possible. Overweight teens can and do learn to feel better about themselves and take better care of themselves. You'll learn their strategies for success - make a rule not to eat out of a bag or a container, swap sodas and sports drinks for water and other zero-calorie drinks, practice restraint, not deprivation. What an excellent concept, find teens who were successful at losing weight and determine how they did it. This book has been helpful for my husband and me, and MOTIVATING for my daughter. What I like the most is you see a chart of what things the kids did to lose weight. The ones that top the list are the healthy ones (exercised more, ate less fat, ate less in general) and the ones at the bottom are unhealty (took pills, etc). PROVING ONCE AGAIN that the RIGHT/SUCCESSFUL way to lose weight is to diet and exercise. This has totally motivated her to move more, the KEY FACTOR for these successful teens.

A Good Book For Your Coffee Table.......2005-11-27

A great collection of photos -- perfect for the coffee table where you and your guests can pick it up and flip thru it to enjoy the interesting pictures. However, the best Beatles book of the year is undoubtedly TURN ME ON, DEAD MAN by Andru J. Reeve. It's available here at Amazon.com. While "Each One Believing" is nice eye-candy, "Turn Me On, Dead Man" is great journalism, and a much better target for your reading dollar. That's just my opinion.

This book is a cornucopia of photographs and text. Paul McCartney, a veteran in the entertainment business and a class act to boot is clearly happy with himself and quite comfortable on stage, doing his job. No doubt fans as well as those with a more "moderate" interest in Paul McCartney as well as the Beatles will be delighted with this book. I love it!

Paul McCartney is not only an extraordinary showman, but serious and dedicated to his musical Muse. He is a musical purist in the truest sense of the term in that he respects the art of being able to create and perform musically. He paints musical murals with his words; he has a full range ability in performing many different musical styles which makes him musically versatile.

I like the feeling of cooperation that appears to underscore the people directly involved with this show...it sounds like the entire crew had a wonderful time and enjoyed the fruits of their success in technically enabling Paul McCartney to do a spectacular show! Paul McCartney acknowledges this which speaks highly of him. He also accepts the outpouring of love from his audience with grace and aplomb, never losing his humorous approach.

To this book's credit, Paul is not put up on a staged pedastal and fawned and spoonfed obsequious flattery. The people who were directly involved in the production and execution of the concert were serious about doing their jobs well and that was reflected in the actual performance. They were doing their jobs and not currying favor from anybody. It is only natural to be enthusiastic at such a performance and no doubt making any contribution toward the show could only prompt enthusiastic delight.

The photographs are delightful - readers see Paul having fun on and off stage; his lovely wife Heather and the crew who made it all possible. The book speaks to professionalism on the part of the crew; the performers and those photographing and writing about the concert.

This book is truly beautiful and there are many funny, touching, endearing and serious parts. It is Gestaltism - the whole IS greater than the sum of its parts because it is the whole, that is the performer, the crew, loved ones, audience and all who had a part in the production who made the whole show/experience/book as wonderful as they are. It is a glimpse behind the performer's curtain.

Superb Collection of Photographs.......2004-12-27

Each One Believing: Paul McCartney; On Stage, Off Stage, and Backstage by Caroline Grimshaw and photography by Bill Bernstein is an excellent visual collection and recollection of Paul McCartney and his band, and the people that were involved with his 2002-2003 World Tour. The book has a great layout and captures McCartney and company in candid moments that go with documentary photography. The chapters in the book are particularly named from lines of songs included in the tour, and at the back of the book, is a quirky section, the Tourasaurus, that McCartney shares with his readers that gives a run down of terms that were used during the tour.

Besides the tremendous photographs in the book, there are radio interviews embedded in the contents of the book that reveal McCartney as one unstoppable rockin' machine, or not to be cliched, a fine wine that keeps "gettin' better" as time goes by. Indeed, he is an icon in rock and roll history and in history in general. There is a line in the book where he speaks about singing and writing "Yesterday," which reveals how far this man has come: "I was writing with wisdom of an old man, but I was quite a young man. So now, once you have actually lost friends and lovers, then it really is kind of ... it means more" (27).

Overall, this a nice addition to anyone's coffetable book collection as well for anyone interested in photography. In addition, this is a wonderful accompaniment to McCartney' Back In the USA DVD, and for those fortunate to be a part of this rock and roll spectacular, this is a book that relives the moments of the tour. McCartney sums up the excitement: "And it's electrifying. It's like a warm blanket, a big wave of heat coming over you, and you just get the intensity, and you see these faces and you think, "Wow! They've come to party" (128).

Great great book!! if you are a McCarteny fan, you must have it. mostly if you were in the 2002-2003 "Back in the USA" tour. I don't think that Paul needs to promote himself like some reviews said, this is a good, ilustrative and photographic memories from that great tour. The photos are great, the quality of the book too. I was blessed to be in the last show from that leg of the tour in 2002 Ft. Lauderdale FL, amazing show!! and this book brings to me once again all the emotions from that show !!

A Good Book for Beginners.......2007-03-13

I bought this book when my twins first started eating solids, and it is my favorite so far. Some cook books for baby food include complex recipes that seem like they will take hours. The recipes in this book, however, are very simple, so that cooking my babies' food was no longer intimidating at all. It also includes a lot of recipes that seem simple but that I never would have thought of on my own. Pureed chicken and applesauce, for example, has become a staple for my babies. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that a couple of the recipes for teething biscuits did not work out at all. Overall, though, a great book.

Every opera tells a story, but sometimes the creation of an opera makes a pretty fascinating tale on its own. If Verdi's Aida is the quintessential opera, it is also an amazing piece of musical history. This work examines the origin, composition, premiere, recording history, and consistent popularity of one of Verdi's greatest works. In the late 1860s, Ismail Pasha, Khedive (viceroy) of Egypt, asked Verdi to compose a work to premiere in the Cairo Opera House. Although Verdi was uninterested in the project at first, persistence on the part of the Khedive as well as a tempting plot line written by Mariette Bey, one of the day's leading Egyptologists, drew him in. To this day, however, much mystery still surrounds the opera's inception. This book explores that mystery, highlights the genius of Aida's plot and characters, and traces the process through which Verdi and his librettist Ghislanzoni shaped the lyrics. It also considers Aida's spread from Cairo to the rest of the world, discussing aspects of its unique and interesting staging. Following this history, the book provides a critical survey of recordings of Aida, including 33 of the entire opera and three abridged versions. Even if she weren't one-half of the legendary theatrical writing team of Comden and Green, Betty Comden's life would be worth reading about. Collaborating with Adolph Green for some 70 years the brilliant duo gave us such blockbuster Broadway shows as "On The town," "Bells Are Ringing," "The Will Rogers Follies" and "Applause."

Alone, she was a doting wife, a mother who thought she could never master motherhood, and a woman left to mourn the death of her husband, son, and many dear friends.

Born in Brooklyn to Russian immigrant parents, the young Betty had a love for words and was intrigued by the theater. While her teaming with Green made theatrical history, her unprecedented success did not shield her from tragedies and disappointments. These, along with her joys and triumphs, she recounts with candor and humor.

Bor-ing Whiny Book.......2003-03-24

Maybe I shouldn't have bought the book in the first place. I have always liked Betty Comden on a professional basis. But after reading this boring and terribly self-indulgent book, my opinion of her has lowered drastically.

Quite frankly, her life growing up and all of her wonderful friends and aches and pains are not worth reading about. Now if this was more of a balanced autobiography that combined her professional and personal lives, the book would be much better. She grew up rich (she admits the Great Depression did not affect her much) and became quite successful. She admits to guilt about being a part-time mother and talks at embarrassing length about her son who died of HIV due to his years as a drug addict.

If Betty Comden had done nothing more than collaborate on the great musical On The Town, she'd be a star in my personal pantheon. But she's had a wonderfully varied career, as creator and performer, and she has set high standards in all projects. Ms. Comden has lived long enough to have experienced many sadnesses, and she writes about them as openly as she does the happinesses. This book is a gift from a true Broadway original, and a genuine professional. Not to be missed, and bless you, Betty, for giving it to us!

My husband and I purchased this book after falling in love with our local library's copy. This book really forced me to stick with the diet with it's six week's worth of pre-planned menus (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

This book is perfect for people who need a step-by-step guide to beginning and mantaining a low-carb diet. I would recommend this book to anyone new to the low-carb lifestyle.

My husband and I have followed the meal plans for the first low carb stage of this book. I fail miserably at planning meals and shopping right. I never have the ingredients on hand for anything good so end up with plain grilled chicken and bagged salad. The good news is that this comes with weekly menu plans and recipes for *ALL* meals including sides, shopping lists and prep tips. We have loved everything so far, have been stuffed, and are losing weight. I'm looking forward to the easy transition this book will provide to 40-30-30 which I believe is a more sustainable balance for folks like us who are moderately to very active.

I love this cookbook! It fits my way of eating perfectly! If you are looking for a book with 3g of carbs per recipe or something than this isn't the one for you. However!!! there are so many other diets that can utilize this cookbook: South Beach, Zone, Atkins maintance, low-sugar diets, low-glycemic diets, and just general good health eating.

A great addition to the low carbo recipes.......2003-06-26

I Bought Linda Gassenheimer's first book, Low Carb Meals in Minutes, and by following her regimen have lost 40 pounds and (unlike other diets I tried, incl. Atkins) have kept it off!

More Low Carb Meals is another tasty and easy to make set of recipes in the low-carbo diets guidelines. These recipes really work, and are really good!

Maybe zone-friendly, or "right carb" but Low Carb? No........2003-03-05

I must reluctantly agree that this book simply fails to live up to the title. Reluctantly, because Ms. Gassenheimer has again come up with a bunch of delectible recipes, from Pork Scallopini to a tantalizing game hen in red wine, and I'd love to add them to my collection. Unfortunately, as a carb minimalist, I really don't need the temptation of more potatoes, pasta, orzo, white rice...you get the idea. It makes about as much sense as "The Low-Fat Bacon and Pork Rind Cookbook"!

This isn't a matter of zealotry. There's a movement out there, separate from low-carb, to moderate carbs, zap simple sugars, and also moderate the restriction of fats. I've heard it referred to as "right-carb dieting", or the 40-30-30 plan. I applaud people who are succeeding on such a plan, which may for all I know be the best choice, for many. I'm sure people in that camp would do wonderfully with this book.

Why are public identities so predictably, and often so radically, different from identities that flourish in realms of collective intimacy? Why does belonging to a group, knowing about it, or displaying its qualities to others require that certain aspects of identification be denied—not because they are false or stereotypical, but because they are thought to be accurate and indispensable signs of membership?

In Off Stage/On Display, ten scholars with diverse geographical, theoretical, and topical interests take a close, critical look at the vexed relationship between public identities and the intimate spheres in which they are made. They ask how scholars and activists can engage more creatively with problems encountered on this awkward terrain, which is now global both in location and political significance.
