If you are into Herbal medicine at all, this is a text you'll need & love........2007-10-05
Chen has done a great job in compiling this book. Nearly a must have for the eastern adn western information contained therein. Only thing i wish it had was an actual stand along index for pinyin names as opposed to the names being contained within the entire index.. Great book either way.
Lots of great info.......2007-09-05
This book deals with individual herbs. It has a TON of information about each herb including Chinese energetic actions, Western medical actions, dosage, preparation, and usage, indications, contraindications, chemical structure, drug interactions, identification, cited research and authors commentary on usage and possible combinations.
There's not much talk about formulas but as a reference this book is tremendous.
A+
A must for any Herbalist.......2007-03-26
This text has full, easy to read information on the medicinal uses, interactions and properties of a vast range of herbs. My understanding of oriental herbal medicine is limited to say the least, but this book has piqued my interest as well as being an in depth source of ready information that is usable in my business today. The book is that readable, that it has yet to get to the office as I cant seem to put it down at home.
Chinese Medical Herbalogy and Pharmacology.......2007-02-12
This book is necessity to anyone in the oriental medicine field, especially herbal medicine. There are so many patients on medications now, we need a good book to show any possible interactions or contraindications with their current medication, and this is that book.
Chen's Medical Herbology and Pharmacology.......2004-09-26
This is a modern pharmacology text on herbs and prescriptions. Unlike some older texts this fine reference book includes many features not found elsewhere. It includes photographic pictures of each herb and provides in both simplified and tradtional Chinese characters. The chemical composition is badly needed as both modern pharmacists and patients alike need to know what they are dealing with, other than just exotic PinYin names. The pharmacological interactions and author's comments are also welcomed as the effectiveness from modern clinical studies are required in any modern medical book. The only inconvenience I found is that the constant use of this 1200+ page book caused sore on my thumb and fingers. As more and more updates are added, frequent users would prefer a digital source (e.g., XHTML, XML etc) to get the latest update. The advantage of hypertext will allow one to navigate quickly with the click of a mouse without having to flip through pages or using indices. At present, 23% of medical professionals are now using an online source and it is expected more and more will do so to stay current. In sum, this is a highly useful book which will get to its place. Book Description
"What's for dinner?"
If the sound of those three words sends you reeling or, worse, straight to the nearest fast-food chain or take-out joint, then relax. Dream Dinners will change all that forever.
With their new cookbook, Stephanie Allen and Tina Kuna, founders of Dream Dinners, bring the successful philosophy behind their hundreds of assemble-and-freeze-meal stores across America into home kitchens. Dream Dinners offers up one hundred recipes for flavorful meals made with easy-to-find ingredients.
The premise is simple: Scoop or pour ingredients into baking pans or plastic bags, then store the uncooked dishes in the freezer. Later in the week or month, when dinnertime rolls around, just pop one of the frozen meals into the oven. Each recipe is provided two ways: One, prepare just one meal for the night, or two, prepare enough for three meals and freeze the other two. Dinner after sports practice, music lessons, and play rehearsals has never been easier!
In addition to recipes for hearty, family-pleasing classics such as Baked Pesto Ravioli with Chicken, Beef and Zucchini Casserole, and Cider-Braised Pork Loin Chops, Stephanie and Tina give a wealth of time-saving shopping tips and cooking pointers. More than for convenience, eating dinner together provides benefits for the whole family. Study after study shows that mealtime matters. Families who dine together form stronger bonds, and kids get better grades and develop lifelong healthful eating habits. Dream Dinners makes it easy for families to gather around the dinner table and share the ups and downs of the day.
With Dream Dinners, you will spend less time stressing in the kitchen and more time connecting with family and friends.
Customer Reviews:
Not What I Expected.......2007-09-27
I purchased this cookbook hoping it would have some of their wonderful recipes offered at any Dream Dinner location. I was sadly mistaken. These recipes seem to be old family favorites, and not the delicious meals created by the expert Chef's at Dream Dinners. I did however, find 5-10 recipes that I will try. You've probably seen most of the recipes in here, only they put their own little twist on it. Overall, its not a horrible cookbook, just not what I expected.
Good, could be better.......2007-08-25
I overall like the book. I thought it could have been better. It seems they are trying to come off as more gourmet, not as family friendly. But it has a well-deserved spot on my shelf.
I just wasted a lot of money..........2007-08-17
I am pretty upset. I just ordered a brand new cookbook, followed the recipe for a triple batch of the artichoke chicken casserole (which was about $50 worth of supplies. I knew better...I knew there was no way that 1 1/2 cups of uncooked rice would be able to reconstitute with the amount of liquid in the sauce. But, I trusted the book. What a disaster. I am about to call Papa John's. Here is the corrected cookbook (sorry, I didn't think to check for corrections since I just bought the book).
Woops, there are 45 PAGES OF CORRECTIONS!!!! Seriously? How did this book make it through to publishing? Whoever edited it should be fired. If you go to the dream dinners website there is a link with all of the corrections.
Here are the recipes that have erros:

A Working Mom's Best Friend.......2007-06-24
Dinner preparation has never been faster nor easier than it became after I purchased this cookbook. I'm able to have dinner on the table in minutes, and they are healthful -- no weird preservatives or artificial junk that my family doesn't need to eat.
Here's what I do: I use a grocery delivery service. When I place my order online, I have my Dream Dinners cookbook in front of me. Based on what meats are on sale, I choose a beef, a pork and a chicken recipe (sometimes I substitute a pasta, turkey or other meal). I then add the ingredients I will need to make 3 of each recipe. It's usually just another $60 or so on my order. When the order arrives, I take two hours or so to put all of my dinners together. At the end, I have about 12 dinners to stack and freeze in my freezer. TWO HOURS to make 12 dinners -- miraculous!
Some of my family's favorites -- Pork Tenderloin with Pears, New England Pot Roast. Happy assemble-and-freezing!
Bravo! A Great Resource.......2007-03-29
Busy mothers, rejoice. Dinner is served - or almost, anyway. Using the innovative assemble-and-freeze method developed by the founders of the Dream Dinners stores around the country, even the busiest of cooks can learn how to pour ingredients into plastic bags and freeze them, then cook as needed. Whether for breakfast, dinner, parties or dessert, just a few hours in the kitchen will yield weeks of hassle-free meals.
I would have liked to see more photos and graphics (they're always appreciated with cookbooks), but still, this is a fantastic resource. Bravo!

handbook of Home Health Standards and Documentation .......2007-08-03
This book was recieved quickly. I founds the book to be very informative and useful. I found the answers to several of my questions I had. I will keep the book close to use for a reference and I am sure I will use it a lot. Thanks.
VERY HELPFUL.......2007-04-02
I love this book because, being in the home health industry you have to know what you're charting. If charting is lacking then you will not get the full reimbursement that you are entitled to. Thanks alot.
Quickly settles disputes, answers questions, a "MUST" for all home care nurses & their management teams !!!!.......2006-04-03
I have the 4th edition (at this time is the most recent edition in print) and as a psych home care nurse, this little, portable wealth of knowledge has helped me validate to management, as well as to public health and other surveyors, the range in situations that qualify "homebound status" for psychiatric patients. Throughout the book there are samples provided to support a variety of situations that help the nurse better understand, and therefore more accurately report, on each sector of the OASIS forms. Medicare regulations are explained in detail, and I learned information that I had not known in the 14 years I have been doing mental health home care nursing. The manual provides a history and background of homecare, its evolution, provides an overview of documentaion, including the importance of coding, and its significance in home care. Also, valuable tips on improving the nursing visit, setting achievable goals, managing the case, and the guidelines for care for all the home care disciplines, are provided, so the nurse can be knowledgable regarding the roles of the other disciplines. There is a great resource section at the end of the book, and home care definitions, roles, and abbreviations are delineated in this manual as well. All home care codes are listed.
With the often-confusing regulations and data gathering tools out there, at least we on the front lines have this portable manual to help us sort out our assessments and evaluations into the accurate coding and leveling criteria that supports what we do, what we observe, and allows for the appropriate revenue to support the levels of care our patients require. As OASIS data-gathering evolves, newer editions will be needed to keep up with the miriad of changes that will ensue, but at least here is a standard we can all make good use of, and I am willing to bet every nurse, from novice to manager, will find something in this manual that was not known or delineated as well to them in the past.
This manual would also make a wonderful teaching tool for nursing students. They may as well learn early on how intricate the data-gathering tools are in the real working world. Accurate notations on the OASIS forms can either make or break a case, not only regarding reimbursement, but as to whether the levels of care, and variety of disciplines, that you feel are needed, are allowed to provide services to your patient. Hasty and inaccurate translation of evaluations and assessments onto the OASIS forms results in inability to justify to Medicare that the levels of intervention you are requesting are appropriate.
updated verision.......2005-09-29
i had the early verison and used it for making my care plan. the content is now updated and still valuable.
Home Health Standards.......2002-12-30

Book Description
Lawyers use the term "boilerplate" to refer to the provisions at a contract's endchoice of law, notice, arbitration, assignments, etc. Costly problems arise when drafters ignore the subtleties of these provisions. This remarkable book gives you new insights into language you've seen countless times. Written by expert practitioners and incorporating the latest case law, the book covers over 20 provisions. For each provision, it explains the law and parses the provision in detail, including variations. You'll never look at a contract the same way again.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource.......2007-03-09
I purchased this item just to familiarize myself with basic contract terms and the reasoning behind the "boilerplate" that I see and use everyday in my practice. Glad to say it has already paid for itself and I highly recommed this purchase. Obviously no book will tell you how to advise your clients but its another CLE tool any contract attorney can put to use. And for us younger attorneys ...its in english not legalese
Practical advice backed up by legal reasoning.......2003-08-08
This book contains legal background and practical advice for drafting and negotiating many basic contract provisions, such as indemnification, limitations on remedies, and the like. The text is organized and laid out in an easy-to-use format, and the book comes with a CD that includes the template provisions.
The next edition should include a chapter on termination provisions

Horrific story.......2006-04-26
This was such a horrible story of Palestinian parents who murdered there daughter. They called it all in the name of Honor for she was becoming to American. What it's called is murder. The story was not written very well though. The author was all over the place and did not keep the story in one place.
The show forensic files has an episode on this. It gets to the point with out traveling all over the place as the book did.If your curious about the story wait for it to come on forensic files or look it up on line. There is tons of information on line about this tragic story of the lovely , kind innocent girl who did not deserve to die.
In light of 9/11.......2003-01-24
In the wake of the tradegy of 9/11 this book is eye-opening. It goes into detail about how this family/group operated here right under our noses.
Horrifying!.......2002-07-31
This true-crime story is written in the sensationalistic fashion typical of the genre. It grabs your attention right from the beginning and doesn't let go.
The author describes the irony of Tina Isa's life: to any otherAmerican family she would have been cherished as a charming, friendly, hard-working teen...
The author also describes the network of Palestinian terrorist groups living in the U.S. and the role they might have played... This story is gripping and very informative because the author did a lot of research and provides so much background information about the Palestinian culture, the lives of generations of the Isa family, the Abu Nidal terrorist organization and more.
...
Terrorism's broad inroads.......2001-09-23
This book starkly frames the force of hatred which overtook New York City and the world with the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. It relates specifically to Zein Isa's November 1989 murder of his daughter, Palestina. The West Bank immigrant and his Brazilian wife co-conspired in the brutal St. Louis murder of their teenage daughter, whose friendships they believed had endangered their terrorist plans.
In their search for terrorists, the Federal Bureau of Investigation inadvertently taped the actual killing. Zein Isa and his wife were sentenced to death.
The book reveals much about the village life in the West Bank, where most families, according to Maria Zein, belong to radical military groups whose ultimate goal is to destroy Israel. Many West Bank residents are actually "refugees from other countries." According Maria Zein's account, her husband knew "men from Syria, Libya, Kuwait, Saudi." Maria Zein told the author that her husband had traveled from the West Bank village of Beitin, to Jordan, Syria, Libya and Bolivia. He lived undetected for years in the US, and also claimed to have lived in Europe.
The book reveals twisted morals, which condone murder for the sake of family honor. It unmasks intense hatred that evolved into conspiracies to slaughter Jews, blow up the Israeli embassy in Washington and to murder Tina because she posed a threat to these plans.
It also exposes the frighteningly broad inroads that the Abu Nidal terrorists have made into American cities and life. Alyssa A. Lappen
Gurarding the Secrets.......2001-07-25
In November 1989 in St. Louis, the FBI inadvertently tape recorded the entire episode of a teenage girl's being killed by her Palestinian father and Brazilian mother (the Feds were looking for evidence of terrorism, which they also found). In a ghastly eight-minute sequence, Zein Isa stabbed his daughter Palestina thirteen times with a butcher's knife as his wife held the girl down and responded to Palestina's pleas for help with a brutal "Shut up!" The killing ends with Zein screaming "Die! Die quickly! Die quickly! . . . Quiet, little one! Die, my daughter, die!" By this time, she is dead.
Harris, a St. Louis television reporter, has done admirable spade work going through the court transcripts and interviewing everyone connected to the case in an attempt to piece together the interlocking stories of family murder and active support of Abu Nidal's terrorist organization. In addition, she successfully conjures up the small and exceedingly unpleasant world of Zein Isa and his family of rabid anti-Americans living right in the American heartland. The murder culminates their lives of frustration, greed, and vulgarity. Unfortunately, Harris spent more effort digging up information than she did writing the book; so the more-than-casual reader must read and reread its pages to piece together the sequence of events and the scope of the Isa family's involvement with Abu Nidal. Doing so repays the effort, however, for Harris has compiled a treasure trove of materials on two usually elusive subjects.

Acceptable, but overall disappointing.......2007-01-10
This book does not live up to expectations. Found that many of the photos are poor quality/amateur in nature. Some cellars displayed are spectacular but many are ho-hum. Nor does the book have any substantive material. Simple text descriptions accompany photos but only so much can be learned by looking at pictures. I agree with other reviews that this is a good coffee table or "idea" book. However, I expected more interesting photos with meaningful descriptions of the space, conditions, materials, lighting, etc... If you have to have it buy it used.
A much better book is: The Home Wine Cellar: A Complete Guide To Design And Construction by Perry Sims. While it doesn't have as many photos, those it does have are more inspiring and accompanied by good information on cellar design and construction.
Cellar space.......2006-08-25
Its a good coffee table book, Some great photos with good ideas, and some general information for those looking to build a cellar. I'm glad to have it.
This is a great coffee table book.......2005-08-05
Beautiful pictures, it gives you plenty of things to talk about and think about if you are planning a wine cellar. This book does not give a lot of details on why things are done the way they are - it is more of an idea book. I've read a few other books on the details of wine cellar construction, so I already knew why things are done as they are in many of the pictures.
This book gave me tons of ideas and helped me spark my creative juices.

Book Description
The Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the postmodern dance world. It was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie, who broke down the two dominant issues performers deal with-space and time-into six categories. Since that time, directors Anne Bogart and Tina Landau have expanded her notions and adapted them for actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work.
The Viewpoints are a set of names given to certain principles of movement through time and space-they constitute a language for talking about what happens on stage. Coupling this with Composition, which is the practice of selecting and arranging the separate components of theatrical language into a cohesive work of art, provides theatre artists with an important new tool for creating and understanding their art form.
Primarily intended for the many theatre artists who, in the last several years, have become intrigued with Viewpoints yet have had no single source to refer to in their investigations. It can also be used by anyone with a general interest in collaboration and the creative process, whether in art, business or daily life.
Anne Bogart is Artistic Director of the SITI Company, which she founded with Japanese director Tadashi Suzuki in 1992. She is the recipient of two OBIE Awards and a Bessie Award, and is an associate professor at Columbia University. Her recent works include Alice's Adventures; Bobrauschenbergamerica; Small Lives, Big Dreams; Marathon Dancing; and The Baltimore Waltz.
Tina Landau, noted director and playwright, whose original work includes Space (Time magazine 10 Best), Dream True (with composer Ricky Ian Gordon) and Floyd Collins (with composer Adam Guettel), which received the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, an OBIE Award and seven Drama Desk nominations. She has been an ensemble member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company since 1997.

Viewpoints.......2007-03-08
I wanted a good, basic look at Viewpoints and this book has been exactly what I hoped it would be. It is to the point but still offers enough explanation to make sure the reader understands each viewpoint. If you want a good, basic background of the work this book does well.
Indeed a "practical guide".......2007-01-11
This book was highly recommended to me by a dancer friend, and I've found it to be extremely useful for dance improvisation sessions I'm leading with a group of non-dancers. The authors offers numerous exercises that groups can build on, experiment with, and use to generate skill and teamwork. If you're looking for inspiration for your own performance project or creative ideas for group activities, you will find them here.
Must Own.......2006-05-26
This book is a must-own for actors looking to learn about the physical traning of Viewpoints.
It's great, and practical, and you'll find yourself learning.
A must for every actor's shelf.
FINALLY!.......2005-12-10
It took forever to finally arrive.. both in the sense that it kept getting delayed, but more importantly as a director who has trained with Viewpoints and wanted to impliment them into my work.
The book is very accessible to even those who have not taken any Viewpoints classes with a laid out ground plan for how to introduce each Viewpoint as well as how to use them in rehearsals and creating new pieces. The end of each section includes several options to eithe expand or replace, making the plan fit perfect for whatever you're doing. I read it cover to cover in a sitting and will be referencing it in the future as I direct those new to Viewpoints as well as those previously exposed.
Book Description
AN ABUSIVE MOTHERRaised in the suburb of Riverside, California, twenty-year-old college student Jason Bautista endured for years his emotionally disturbed mother's verbal and psychological abuse. She even locked him out of the house, tied him up with electrical cord, and on one occasion, gave him a beating that sent him to the emergency room. His fifteen-year-old half brother Matthew Montejo also was a victim to Jane Bautista's dark mood swings and erratic behavior, but for some reason, Jason received the brunt of the abuse-until he decided he'd had enough...A SON'S REVENGEOn the night of January 14, 2003, Jason strangled his mother. To keep authorities from identifying her body, he chopped off her head and hands, an idea he claimed he got from watching an episode of the hit TV series "The Sopranos." Matthew would later testify in court that he sat in another room in the house with the TV volume turned up while Jason murdered their mother. He also testified that he drove around with Jason to find a place to dump Jane's torso.A CRIME THAT WOULD BOND TWO BROTHERSThe morning following the murder, Matthew went to school, and Jason returned to his classes at Cal State San Bernardino. When authorities zeroed in on them, Jason lied and said that Jane had run off with a boyfriend she'd met on the Internet. But when police confronted the boys with overwhelming evidence, Jason confessed all. Now the nightmare was only just beginning for him...
Customer Reviews:
Great read.......2007-10-07
This is a well written book.
The author does a lot of background researchs and it shows.
I can not believe that no one ever turned this mother in, what a tragedy.
Sad, Sad, Sad.......2007-08-29
Well written tale of two boys suffering at the hands of their deranged mother. I have to admit, I don't blame the kid for killing her, and it's sad that he has to spend his life in jail. He went from one prison to another. How family and friends let her get away with it, is beyond me.
What a sad Story.......2007-08-27
This was a sad story, and I reckon if the older boy had not lied about things, his sentence would not have been so harsh.
I have read other criminals do worse crimes and get less than what he got.
awesome.......2007-07-12
This book was a very intersting book. I love to read and let me tell you it was not put down until I read all the book. The arthur is amazing and left you feeling as if you were actually there. If you love true crime stories this is the book for you
Recommended.......2007-03-11
I agree with most other reviewers. While this may not have been the most exciting or well written true crime book, it may certainly qualify as the most tragic. It was a fast read and was interesting.
Shame on all those who saw what was happening to those poor suffering boys and refused to report it. Shame on all those who knew this mother was schizophrenic and did nothing to assist her. In particular, I am perplexed and angry that this woman's own family did nothing to gain treatment for their seriously mentally ill daughter! They had options and chose instead to do nothing.
Even more tragic, her family allowed those two boys to suffer for years and years! Where is the justice in punishing Jason? While murder is wrong and I am not condoning the actions of her older son, one can hardly blame him. Yes, he was of legal age, employed, and could have left his mother... but children raised in abusive homes often do not feel secure enough to leave or to even see leaving as a viable option. Jason has served some time in prison. He is certainly not a continued threat to society, nor was he ever. Perhaps a sympathetic judge will someday commute the sentence for this young man and allow him to have some chance at life... a normal life. This woman's parents should have been on trial for doing NOTHING!
