Book Description

What is hell like, and how does one avoid an eternity of torment? Bill Wiese shares his unforgettable experience during which God allowed him to see and feel the agony people endure in hell.

Wiese's visit to the devil's lair lasted just twenty-three minutes, but he returned from this with vivid details etched in his memory. He records an accurate account of his experience in this book, presenting more than three hundred scriptures that verify the horrors he endured and observed.

5 out of 5 stars If this book was about heaven it would be more popular.......2007-10-19

No one wants to think about hell. I sure don't. I didn't read the book, but I saw an interview with him as he described his experience. It really jolted me. Just as sure as there is a heaven right now, there also is a hell where millions and millions of never-dying souls are constantly tormented. We don't want to think about this.
Not only does the world need a wake-up call, but the church does also. I have little respect for Christians who only preach syrupy, lovey-dovey messages, without warning people of the realities of hell and the consequences of living ungodly lives. Unless we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow JESUS, we cannot make heaven our home. We can say a sinner's prayer, but if we're not truly converted in our hearts, we're no more saved than the blatant sinners out on the streets.
It's no wonder that straight and narrow is the way and few there be that find it. It's easier to believe a lie, especially if it's by a preacher who is afraid to offend his congregation, let alone the non-church-going world. If you really love someone, you'll warn them. I believe the Lord JESUS spoke more of hell than he did heaven. He loved us enough to make a way for us to get there. But do we love Him enought to serve Him, no matter what the cost?
Whether you believe the man's story or not, the Scriptures are very plain. (If you read a King James Bible, that is) JESUS said it would be better to cut of your offending arm, if it causes you to sin, than to enter hell with all of your members, that's how bad it is......and He made a Way for us to be cleansed, forgiven, and set free from the darkness and sin in our lives so that when we die we won't have to go to hell, if we surrender completely to His Lordship now.
He doesn't want us to go there, but people just don't want to serve JESUS. Please don't be one of them. Surrender, and have His life, both now and in eternity. JESUS said, "Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest unto your souls"......

4 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-10-19

This is an amazing story. It seems like it could be a real experience, but you never know - people are so good at fictionalizing these days. Worth reading.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book.......2007-10-14

I have always been sceptical of stories about people claiming that they have went to Heaven or Hell. However, I saw the author on a television interview and that prompted me to purchase this book. His story has an ring of authenticity. The book describes the trip into Hell with vivid word pictures. It was facinating. The actual vision or trip takes up a small portion of the book. The balance of the book answers some very important questions that the average person would have after hearing the author's testimony. I feel that every Christian should read this book. You can't remain the same after reading about the author's experience. My husband is a Pastor, so we encounter questions regarding eternity frequently. I feel the information in this book will help us better answer questions that seeking individuals my have. A thank you goes to the author for being willing to tell his story. Its not easy to step forward with such a testimony.

5 out of 5 stars A must read !.......2007-10-10

This book is indeed fascinating ! It gives one a taste of what hell is like and therefore it should prayerfully lead one to dedicate their life to Christ so that they have the assurance of Heaven.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Detailed book.......2007-10-10

So often a book on someone's experience of this sort is very vague. Bill is so incredibly detailed that you actually feel like you have no further questions about what Hell is like. His descriptions are so breath taking that I highly recommend not reading this before you go to bed. Be prepared to get your socks scarred off you. I couldn't sleep for weeks after reading this book. I now purchase a number of them to hand out during Halloween. If someone wants to get scared enough to realize that God is real, the bible is accurate, and life is not to be wasted away, this is the book to read. It is life changing.

Book Description

It began with two men. They came from very different worlds¿entirely different universes, in fact¿and they met in a virgin forest on a duplicate planet Earth. Neither of them had expected it, both of them realized how important the first contact with any other trans-universal human civilization might be. But something went wrong. Neither side knows who shot first. But both the magic-using civilization of Arcana and steel-and-steam age Sharona, with its psionic Talents, think it was the other side. And it doesn't really matter, now, because the original incident has snowballed. Both sides have additional dead to mourn; both sides have additional wrongs to avenge. Both sides have additional military forces moving towards the front. War between the universes is the last thing responsible leaders on either side want. But the fury of their respective populations, xenophobic fear of the unknown, and cries for "justice" (or vengeance), are all driving both sides towards the brink. The actions of local military commanders and diplomats may well determine the final outcome, and unscrupulous, power-hungry men¿and Arcana and Sharona alike¿have agendas of their own. The fuse has been lit, and a war stretching across the universes, across an endless succession of identical Earths, fought between dragons, spells, and crossbows and repeating rifles, machine guns, and artillery is about to begin in white-hot rage and fury. Where it will end¿and how¿no one knows.

4 out of 5 stars Hell Hath No Fury (Multiverse, Book 2).......2007-07-05

A good follow up though a little weak in maintaining interest at some points. It is still a good read for Weber fans.

4 out of 5 stars A great series continues.......2007-06-11

The conflict between two civilizations that span multiple parallel Earths (Sharona, based on technology and psi, and Arcana, based on magic) that started in Hell's Gate (Multiverse, Book 1) continues, blown into war by a power hungry faction of Arcanans, who are contemptuous of the abilities of barbarians unaware of the use of magic.
Several threads are present to be of later importance - the dolphin alliance with Sharona (from the first book, but not referenced since), the Voice (telepath) from Sharona with her husband and the honorable Arcanans escorting them into Arcana, the newly unified Sharononian government at pseudo-Constantinople and, of course, the soldiers of both civilizations (with a developing conflict between those Arcanans who knowingly fabricated the war and those who are finding out the truth). An additional intriguing occurrence is the gradual discovery by those of each side who've penetrated the other's territory of the nature of their own skills in a vastly different environment (that's a little cryptic, but to say much more would be spoiler). There's also a bit of a cliff-hanger ending each of the books.
There are glossaries that help overcome the sense of disorientation of unfamiliar names for familiar locations (I used a map for book one and wrote names as I read through the book) and to keep track of the large number of characters. The atlas glossary could use some editing - e.g. one region is referred to as being both "west of India" and "containing China" and another area is referred to as belonging to the opposite civilization from what's stated in the text. It is still very useful, despite a little carelessness.
There is so much material that this series should last for several more books. If not, there will be a lot of unhappy fans.

5 out of 5 stars A very good Rich Weber book.......2007-06-01

In a world where trans-dimensional rifts allow movement between parallel universes, two mighty empires have arisen. One uses magic uses a highly-developed magic, while the other is based on steam technology and psionics. And when they came together, conflict was probably inevitable. In this, the second book of the series, war has now come, and Hell hath no fury like this war across the multiverse!

I am a big David Weber fan, and I couldn't wait to get this series. Overall, I like the way that the author handled the two disparate technologies (magic developed to the point of technology and psionics also developed to the point of technology), and the war scenes are pretty realistic and gruesome. Overall, I found this to be a very good Rich Weber book, one that I do not hesitate to recommend.

5 out of 5 stars A great read.......2007-05-17

The first book in the series was good even though confusing with the introduction of all the characters and places. This one really clicked. I could hardly put it down. The action was great, the characters well developed, and the story flowed smoothly. I am so looking forward to the next one.

Top-notch combat action. The usual Weber detailed political intrigue.

4 out of 5 stars Going From Bad To Worse.......2007-05-15

In HELL'S GATE, David Weber and Linda Evans created an interesting new series of universes in which to play and posited a first contact scenario between the two civilizations as a botched effort, rife with misunderstandings on both sides and tragic violence. In this second volume, the situation just gets worse as misunderstandings proliferate and people with ulterior motives and hidden agendas do their best to promote themselves at the expense of their societies.

One of the civilizations under scrutiny is fairly backward from a technological point of view and could best be described as pre-industrial. To make up for this lack, they employ genuine magic, complete with fire breathing dragons. Since the other side has no conception of this, it is difficult to fight.

The other side has a Victorian industrial base but supplements itself with various psionic powers. This too proves formidable for their opponents who have no conception at to how this might operate.

In this installment, the magical side has launched an offensive cloaked by negotiations in an order to gain the military high ground. The campaign is being run by officers in the area and their high command has no idea of what is going on or even that a war has broken out. This book takes us several months into the conflict and the line of communications is so long that the home world has not yet even found out about it. This leaves the in theater commander free to wreak havoc for his own personal agenda and that of his ethnic group.

The opposing side is remote but not as remote from the point of contact. They have been ambushed and are mad. They are mobilizing for total war but again, they are hampered by personal agendas.

We are only a few months into the series and it promises to be a long affair. I look forward to reading about it.

Heaven Is So Real is a book that everyone needs to read concerning the most important event of Christ's return. I say urgent reading because most of us are not ready for what really matters in life and that is being in right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. His love is so great that He wants everyone to be in heaven with Him. Please don't miss out on being ready for the most important event of your life and read this book today.

5 out of 5 stars This is truly Jesus book!.......2007-10-17

I don't like reading books, but since I read "Heaven is so Real" I can't put it down. While I was reading the book I started crying and saw how Jesus loves each and every one of us. I have sent this book everywhere(United State, Asia, Africa and other places). People have said this book is a blessing to them and has totally changed their lives. I only know because it is Jesus book that's why most readers lives are changing. I highly recommand this book to whoever really wants to go Heaven.
Praise the Lord!!

5 out of 5 stars The best book about heaven.......2007-09-28

I have collected every Christian book on heaven. Ranging from books written from the 19th century to the 21st century, and so far Choo's is the best because:

1) It grabs me right away because Dr. Yonggi Cho, Pastor of the largest church in the world with over 1 million members, wrote the forward and translated it into Korean - demonstrating his total trust in Choo's credibility;
2) I could see Choo's deep love and devotion to our Lord, forsaking every worldly thing in order to draw closer to Christ;
3) Choo's writing immerses you with vivid pictures of heaven and hell.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a deeper knowledge of Christ and to those wanting a manual on how to get to heaven.

HEAVEN IS SO REAL! So don't miss it.

5 out of 5 stars Total Blessings and Excellent.......2007-09-27

I was the most blessed when I read the "Heaven is so real" book.
It is not only a Choo Thomas' personal testimony of visiting heaven but also conveying a powerful messages from the Lord Jesus.
I found the deeper love of Jesus Christ for His church and His children through this book. At the same time His warning to His children of Laodicean church is there because He cares.
Some may disagree with this book because they believe it is unscriptural.
However I believe this is extra-biblical and will be a blessing for those who read and believe with open heart. If you do not believe, please be quiet because you may blaspheme the Holy Spirit without knowing.
If you don't understand some part you pray to the Lord to reveal His truth.
Please read the Gospel of Matthew 12:31, Mark 3:29 and Luke 12:10.
I believe the true author of this book is the Lord Jesus Himself.
When you focus your heart on the Lord Jesus while reading the Holy Spirit will bless you beyond your imagination.
Critics are always there even in Jesus time but they regret a million times now in unwanted place.
I recommend to everyone to read and share this Heaven book because Jesus is coming back very soon, sooner than most think.

1 out of 5 stars Approach with skepticism!.......2007-09-24

After considerable deliberation, I have reached the conclusion that the woman who wrote this book was either deliberately trying to make a quick buck by publishing a pack of lies, OR she is so mentally unbalanced that she is unable to discern between reality and fantasy. I'm hoping she is just unbalanced, because it really makes me angry when people deliberately write lies and call it the truth. If you haven't read "Heaven is so Real" yet, then save your money. In her heaven, Jesus tools around in an electronic push button speed boat with stained glass windows (now mind you there is no mention of cars, airplanes, trains, motorcycles, or even bicycles, but, by golly, there are speed boats). If the windows in the boat are stained glass, how does one see through them to steer the boat? Also, He (Jesus) cooks rainbow colored fish on an electronic push button B-B-Q grill. If lions and other carnivorous beasts are destined to eat grass (vegetation) in Heaven, then why are people eating flesh in Heaven? Death in Heaven? And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Her book is nonsense from beginning to end. Of which, at the end of the book, she cautions against letting anyone mark you with the number 666. Gee, does anyone still believe that? Aren't we all savvy to the notion that the mark of the beast will most likely be a microchip implant? I guess not. The bottom line is that I am not going to buy anymore books written by people who claim to have had a "trip" to heaven or hell because their "experiences" can't be verified and I'm tired of being buffaloed. I'll find out what Heaven is like when I get there.

Book Description

How does an honor student at one of Los Angeles's finest prep schools–a nice girl from a happy, loving home–trade school uniforms and afternoons at the mall for speedballs in the back of a truck in rural Indiana? How does her devoted mother emerge from the shock of finding that her daughter has not only disappeared but had been living a secret life for more than a year?

Mother and daughter tell their parallel stories in mesmerizing first–person accounts. Claire Fontaine's story is a parent's worst nightmare, a cautionary tale chronicling her daughter Mia's drug–fueled manipulation of everyone around her as she sought refuge in the seedy underworld of felons and heroin addicts, the painful childhood secrets that led up to it, and the healing that followed. Her search for Mia was brutal for both mother and daughter, a dizzying series of dead ends, incredible coincidences and, at times, miracles. Ultimately, Mia was forced into harsh–but–loving boot camp schools on two continents while Claire entered a painful but life–changing program of her own. Mia's story includes the jarring culture shock of the extreme and controversial behavior modification school she was in for nearly two years, which helped her overcome depression and self–hatred to emerge a powerful young woman with self–esteem and courage.

Come Back is an unforgettable story of love and transformation that will resonate with mothers and daughters everywhere.

5 out of 5 stars This book haunts me 6 months after reading it!.......2007-10-16

This is the most profound book I have read in 2007. I think about it often and my book group seems to revisit it every month even though we read it 6 months ago. This is a raw story of healing and torment, not self indulgent or too self absorbed like many other acclaimed memoirs. I loved it and could not put it down

5 out of 5 stars Awful but captivating and well written.......2007-10-07

This is the horrific story you hear about - young girl, seemingly on the right track with caring parents, suddenly displays amazingly self-destructive tendencies.

The difference is that this story is told by both mother and daughter in clear sections that also flow well. Both mother and daughter write their tales well, and you can see the growth happen through the story. The catharsis is not sudden; the recovery is not fast. It is hard work to achieve the well-deserved forward momentum they have at the end of the book.

There is also a small amount of revenge - not nearly enough, but just a little to make you almost smile.

It's a terrible tale that deserves to be told. It is told well. I wish the best to both authors of this book.

I truly love both Claire and Mia. I really related to Claire as a mother myself of teenagers and I related to Mia from when I was a teenager. Their stories parallel the lives of my Mom and I but to a lesser degree. Wonderful book!

Book Description

The Union of Arcana has expanded through the portals linking parallel universes for over a century and a half. In that time, its soldiers and sorcerers have laid claim to one uninhabited planet after another¿all of them Earth, and in the process, the Union has become the most powerful, most wealthy civilization in all of human history. But all of that is about to come to a screeching halt, for the Union¿s scouts have just discovered a new portal, and on its far side lies a shattering revelation. Arcana is not alone, after all. There is another human society, Sharona, which has also been exploring the Multiverse, and the first contact between them did not go well. Arcana is horrified by the alien weapons of its sudden opponents, weapons its sorcerers cannot explain or duplicate. Weapons based upon something called . . . science. But Sharona is equally horrified by Arcana¿s ¿magical¿ weapons. Neither side expected the confrontation. Both sides think the other fired first, and no one on either side understands the ¿technology¿ of the other. But as the initial disastrous contact snowballs into all-out warfare, both sides can agree on one thing. The portal which brought them together is Hell¿s Gate itself!

3 out of 5 stars understandably slow........2007-10-04

This book does seem to drag along for quite a while. It never quite gets "boring" but then, it's never quite edge of your seat exciting either. This book is cramed with world building which is some times tedious, but things REALLY pick up in book to. I reccomend you get this, even if only to understand the later books in the series.

4 out of 5 stars Great Concept, Slow Development.......2007-10-02

While I have only read a handful of the works by David Weber I was in an airport bookstore and saw this and thought to myself, why not? Unfortunately at times I found myself wondering, why did I?

As many people have already commented the book is a bit how do you say...slow on the get go. Honestly it was really really boring and there was so much character development and back story that you sometimes forgot what happened at "Fallen Timbers" or to Sir Olderhan and his Shardoni throughout the book.

While admittidly it was slow in the beginning, after having now read the second book in the series I understand why things were done they way they were in this first book. The character development is some of the deepest I have ever come across in a book and you really begin to feel some pretty deep connections with the main characters by the end of this story.

However while following main characters is one thing, they have gone and personified the civilizations of Andara and Sharona in of themselves. It's difficult to pick which side you really want to win because of all the similarities to human history and fantasy.

Ironically though some of the deepest aspects of this novel have everything to do with the development of the readers link with each civilization and the political, and human response to such a meeting. In the end I would have to say that this really was a great read!

1 out of 5 stars Lordy, this is awful!.......2007-10-02

I like David Weber. A lot. But this, this is just terrible. Page after page of people peering into one another's eyes. All of the female characters bursting into tears at the drop of a hat....again and again, and again. Heroic male characters who the average trooper wouldn't follow to the local waste water treatment plant, let alone into battle. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars Ok as long as there's more coming........2007-08-08

Now despite being billed as "A War between Science and Magic," it would behoove the reader to know that the last battle between these two cultures occurs on page 350 thereabouts. The problem is, its an 800 page book, and the only thing that happens for the rest of the 450 pages is a severe amount of preparation in character backstory and motivation for the rest of the series. Knowing Weber, this is to be expected for him to plant seeds here that wont pay off for several books down the line, as he does that unceasingly annoyingly in his Honor Harrington novels, making the reader wait YEARS to see where things are heading (while pumping out about 5 OTHER books between each Harrington novel). For this book, as a reader, I was constantly thinking, "Thats Ok and all that, but where's the war?" Then we get to the horrible disappointment of the ending, to find out that there ISNT one, and we have to wait for Book 2 to see anything interesting.

GOOD NEWS IS, that Book 2 will hit you like a thunderclap, with the big showdown between the dragons and the howitzers that we were promised in Book 1 finally arriving in a huge flying monster vs industrial war machine free-for-all. This should have been the ending to Book 1, and judging by the size of Book 2, only HALF the size of this one, it very well likely may have been, becoming a 2nd book in the editing process.

Just keep 'em coming at a quick clip. I can handle these waits as long as we get a steady stream of sequels. Book 2 had better have been short for a darned good reason, such as Book 3 being 800 pages or more... Dont keep us hanging for hangings sake.

4 out of 5 stars Clash of two very different human cultures.......2007-05-28

Start with the very standard idea that a multiverse exists in which the universe has repeatedly separated into different alternates in which the same event has different outcomes. Now add a much rarer twist - contact is possible between universes with common history tens of thousands or more years in the past, but not with more recent ones. Gone are the "Nazis won WW II" or "Roman Empire still lives" contacts. Instead, humanity finds a chain of Earths in which there are no humans, but which are in an "Age of Mammals" which is pretty much as on our Earth.
Such a scenario allows for contact between (and clashes between) two human cultures which have developed in vastly differing manners - one discoverted technology and the other magic. Each approach blinded its adherents to even the possibility of the other way of life.
Further, to make things more even, the technology people have not yet achieved flight or radio communication, but do have railroads, steamships and late 19th century artillery and machine guns. Further, they have some psi "Talents", which may eventually balance the "Gifts" of the magical adepts.
Both civilizations have been actively spreading through the chain of alternate Earths, without meeting other humans, until they meet in a world newly discovered by both and far from the home world of either. A clash ensues, started by accident, but fed by paranoia, incompetence and egotism.
A interesting twist is the existence in the technology world of a pseudo-British Empire (headquartered in Ireland, so not quite British) whose past resembles Rome and its Byzantine avatar (including a clone of Constantinople as its past capital) - they even have "joint" sovereignty over pseudo-Gibraltar - and a psuedo-Ottoman Empire ("Othmaliz") whose Constantinople-clone capital is the site of the world conference called to address the crisis resulting from the clash of cultures. Why create a history very different from ours and then copy details of our history into the new history? Since that is what happens, I suggest the reader label a blank world map with the local names from the story to keep track of what's happening on "technology Earth" ("Sharona" - incidentally, Weber's wife's name is "Sharon").
The early section of the book, is, as other reviewers have mentioned, disjointed and hard to read. I almost gave up. After the first 50 or so pages, the story becomes much more interesting and is hard to put down.
The scenario has potential for a long series of high quality stories.

4 out of 5 stars Downside of Islam and Downside of Poverty.......2007-08-08

When I first read and reviewed this book I left only a cryptic notation, "downside of Islam" but I neglected the opportunity to point out that the book also captures the downside of poverty as well as the enormous cultural and emotionial indignities toward women that are sanctioned by Islam and not only practiced in Islamic countries but also exported to Europe and the USA, where women are treated behind closed doors in a manner that would put any normal American behind bars for years.

5 out of 5 stars A must read story about life in Iran.......2007-07-31

Ghazal's book offers a rare and insightful look of Iran, a land that is usually viewed via the political prism of its leadership and rarely from the point of view of its people. The author offers a compelling story of a girl and a young woman living in a land that is best described by the name she chooses for her ontology. And indeed, "Hell" is a difficult word for a homeland. But while reading the tale it becomes apparent that "Hell" is not a description given to the beautiful land of Iran but rather, to the political reality that engulfed the country and, with it, the life of a young girl.

Ghazal begins her story in Abadan, a picturesque city located minutes from the Iraqi border where she grew up as the youngest of eight siblings. As a child, Ghazal experienced the life before the revolution - life of relative freedom in where friendships with Jews were permitted and where reading the bible was not considered an unforgivable sin. These times and her inquisitive personality created a girl that would forfeit her need to reflect upon and question her surroundings) - something that means only trouble in post-revolutionary Iran.

Her story is a personal one of an inquisitive girl who is trying to follow her mind and her heart and that of a country busy with revolution and war that has little room for any form of dissent.

The book recounts the life before the revolution and the events that have led to the rise of Kohmeni. It offers an insider's view of the revolution, the US embassy hostage crisis and the war.

Having studied Islam for 17 years and following a struggle wither own faith, the author knows Islamic law. Her studies, documented in the second portion of the book, address many important questions and misconceptions about Islam. Her research affords some insight into why Muslim countries seem to be prone to terrorism and examines the link between poverty, ignorance and terrorism

Living In Hell is also a book dedicated to the oppression of women. Omid's personal experience s a woman who experienced abuse , is , unfortunately, not unique in countries like Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyz and other Middle East countries where traditional male dominated societies still practice barbaric "honor" killings

Ghazal Omid calls herself "A Rebel With A Cause" because her work have became one deeply associated with the cause of freedom in Iran, with human rights and with the life of many Iranian prisoners for whom Ghazal is one of the only voices of hope. "Living in Hell" was written also for these brave men and woman - since it shows that difficult and even impossible journey of struggle can end with freedom and hope.

Nir Boms is the Vice President of the Center for Freedom in the Middle East

5 out of 5 stars A Powerfully personal account.......2007-06-25

Living in Hell is a powerful window into the daily struggles of women in Iran. It is filled with heart wrenching personal accounts of Ghazal's struggle against the oppressive nature of Iran's Islamic government and male dominated society. Anyone who desires to gain insight into the struggles faced by women in Islamic dictatorships should get this book, you wont regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Truth Seekers Only.......2007-05-18

If you are a truth seeker, then this book will change your life forever. Ms. Omid has touched the very depths of my soul by her honest account and for sharing her experience, strength, and hope. I urge everyone to read her book! The subject matter is difficult to read if you have a conscience and are concerned about women and men in Iran. She may not be an expert on every act of abuse that happens around the world, but she does know first hand the type of abuse that goes on in the country she grew up in. I can not understand where the feminists and human rights activists are when it comes to the abuse women endure in Iran. Where are they? I can only deduce that those who ridicule such an honest account are the same types of people who thought Hitler was "good" for Germany. They turn their heads and dismiss the reality while unimaginiable atrocieties occur daily, especially if privilege and power are in their favor. Ms. Omid never accepts "status quo" and is not silenced by those who would consider themselves superior because they have different genitals. Her book is a reminder that one empathetic person in one's life can and does make a difference for the better. We can say "NO!" Most amazing is the way in which Ms. Omid puts her literal life on the line daily to speak up for those who have no voice. Her unconditional love for the people of Iran and her beloved country is indescribable. Because of Ms. Omid's book, I am extremely encouraged that the people of Iran can and do have the ability to stand up and stop the madness that their horrific, dispicable, murderous government is thrusting upon them. They need a little help from the rest of the world. Those who truly care are "the rest of the world!" Ms. Omid and her book is a gift to humanity. I recommend this book to everyone!!!! May her valiant spirit touch your heart too!

5 out of 5 stars A Heartrending, Truthful, and Inspiring Autobiography.......2007-04-16

Ghazal Omid is one of humanity's treasures. She faced crushing poverty in her childhood in Iran, even with a father who usually was flush with cash but found little of it to spend on his own family. She was abused, mistreated, ignored, and utilized by family members only for what she could be bullied into giving up.

Standing up to the Revolutionary government in Iran in her daily life, her obstinate refusal to parrot the dictates of the Mullahs ended up with her receiving the tender mention of her name by Ayatollah Khemeni at Friday prayers as an "American patriot", tantamount to a death sentence by the nation's highest-ranking cleric, and plenty of the mindless myrmidons of the Revolution were inspired by the Ayatollah's words to carry it out.

Fleeing her home nation and making it eventually to Canada, Ghazal struggled with newfound difficulties of a woman raised in a controlling culture, suddenly faced with the open society of Canada, and initially had great difficulties coming to terms with her new life.

The abuse from her two horrible brothers in Canada, now devolved into the spychological abuse of a patriarchial culture in which women are regarded as burdens and not gifts to humanity, continued as Ghazal did her level best to rise above a lifetime of hideous maltreatment by the very men in her life who should have been standing up for her, protecting her, and helping her establish herself as an independent spirit in a unkind world.

Even in the face of this tremendously sad background, Ghazal decided to devote her life to help the people left behind in Iran, and to this day does everything she can do to help Iranian people, political prisoners, and resistance groups, overcome the death grip the Mullahs have on the people of her home nation.

She is an immensely strong, brilliant, and eloquent woman, and a role model of strength and determination that any woman would find inspiring.

This is a book that any woman in the West should read, to further understand the shackles hammered around the necks of women in Muslim countries, and more deeply appreciate the societies into which Western women have had the fortune to be born.

Those who have assailed this book in above commentaries completely missed the point of the book. This is no whine-fest, it is a sincere confession of a woman who seeks to make other human beings stronger by helping them realize the struggles that billions of women living in subjugation face on a daily basis.

My own life has been enriched by reading Ghazal's story, and anyone who reads her book with an open mind cannot help but come away with a different understanding of Iranian culture, and Islam in its true form, not the perverted politicized Wahabbist/Jihadist delusion that somehow a God out there is reveling in the deaths, or the sufferings, of innocents.

Book Description

Narrated by the visionary founding member, Hell's Angel provides a fascinating all-access pass to the secret world of the notorious Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club. Sonny Barger recounts the birth of the original Oakland Hell's Angels and the four turbulent decades that followed. Hell's Angel also chronicles the way the HAMC revolutionized the look of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle and built what has become a worldwide bike-riding fraternity, a beacon for freedom-seekers the world over.

Dozens of photos, including many from private collections and from noted photographers, provide visual documentation to this extraordinary tale. Never simply a story about motorcycles, colorful characters, and high-speed thrills, Hell's Angel is the ultimate outlaw's tale of loyalty and betrayal, subcultures and brotherhood, and the real price of freedom.

5 out of 5 stars "IF YOU THINK YOU'RE TOUGH INSULT A BIKER".......2007-02-17

A first hand and personal look into the life of a Hell's Angel.Where better to find out what the Hell's Angels are all about than from a founding member ,the President for many, many years and who has been in the center of the organization for 40 years. There is nothing he doesn't know about the organization since he was there through it all,and had a hand in everything that happened.
There has been much written and much coverage in the media over the years, some of it true but a lot of it pure fiction and legend. From reading this book ,you'll come to the conclusion, that by and large ,the fiction and legend is heavily slanted towards putting the Hell's Angles in as bad a light as possible.
More often than not, when violence erupted,it was started by law enforcement, town officials or other club riders who decided to hassle or take on the Hell's Angels. These people soon found out that their actions would not be tolerated and the Hell's Angels would stand by their own,to the end and if others wanted to " take them on " it was their choice. When the smoke cleared ,the media and police would alwys blame the riders.
The clubs were made up of men who were independent to a fault, to everything except the loyalty to each other, and the rules of the club. You learn that you didn't decide if you wanted to join, the club decided ;and either you obeyed or you were gone. The Hell's Angel's were tough men,who lived hard ,who gave no quarter and asked for none.
In all the years I've seen groups of Riders on the highway,I have always found them very courteous and well behaved. In later years, there seems to be a lot in the media about their illegal activities such as drugs;but everyone knows there is a lot of that,it's a tough business,of territorial disputes, beatings and killing;but there's a lot of people involved other than Moror Cycle clubs.Heck! even law enforcement and other officials turn up on the wrong side on those issues.
Some people get nervous with the sight of a group of Riders ;but if you give them respect,I don't expect they will give you any trouble.
As a personal experience, several years ago,I was attending a big outdoor event of Country Music.David Allan Coe was one of the star performers and everything was going very well. There were a lot of security types around that gave the impression that they'd just love to take you on if you dare get out of line.In other words, almost hoping something would happen,so they could "move in". Well, about an hour before David Allan Coe was to appear ,a large group of Motorcycle Club members arrived.I can't remember what club they were;Hell's Angels,Satan's Choice,Outlaws or whatever. The crowd seemed to get nervous and many even moved back and probably a few left. I noticed they drove their big machines into the parking area ,all in one spot, dismounted, took off their expensive helmets and simply sat them on their bike seats ;then proceeded to the concert. I did, however, notice several uniformed police officers (not the security personnel) remained in the parking area. It was obvious, that noboby was going to mess with thir "stuff". Coe came on,did his show, the Bikers and Women enjoyed the concert, and were very well behaved.A lot of them had a knife on their belts
(but never took them out),several smoked, and many were even friendly with the crowd. When Coe finished, the Riders had seen what they had come to see, everyone enjoyed themselves, and they got up and left very orderly. The next act came on and the concert continued as if they had never been there. The only thing thst changed was a lot of music fans obtained a different feeling for these people than they had developed from the media.
Of course, there,s a lot of people who would not like their lifestyle, but that's their problem, not the Bikers.
Of course, they break laws,so do a lot of businessmen, politicians and others. When they get caught, they pay in spades,as Sonny did, that can't be said of many other types of lawbreakers.
You will also find a lot of comments on other movies and books about the Hell's Angles but I found the contrast in what Sonny had to say about Hunter S Thompson ,and the reviewers comments on his book on the Angles ,very interesting.
A great read if you want to know what the Hell's Angles are all about.

1 out of 5 stars Take The Patch & Scratch.......2007-01-13

Sonny Barger's tales are Slurs of Confabulations, False Recollections, Fuzzy Logics, basics of "FMS" (False Memory Syndrome). Sonny Barger demonstrates a "Limitless Capacity for Denail" therefore Distorting His Own Statements from Yesteryear. Mr. Barger was evidently under the impression, by placing his name upon a book that the reading public would be sensationalized into the Illusion Barger's some sort of an American Hero, Hardly. Mr. Barger speaks of Brotherhood & Freedom; Never Defining either. (Brotherhood was betrayal of silence after the RICO Trial. Freedom was before Barger's First Conviction, since he has never known real freedom.) All too-much in Barger's Book can be refuted by its mere statements. This book was obviously just put together for money and cover-ups. Publisher should have included an airsickness bag with each book. 10% of a book that covers over 40-years of Hells Angels History was spent taking cheap shots at the Government, over the RICO Trail 1979/1980. This was a Gamble by the Publisher, too-many have known otherwise. Publisher changing the title would help. (Hell's Angel: The Lies and Crimes of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club)

4 out of 5 stars An interesting memoir and lifestory. .......2006-12-31

Love him or hate him, Sonny Barger has one interesting story to tell. In this book he chronicles his life as a child being kicked out of school for hitting the principal, the beginnings of his life on a motorcycle, the creation phase of what would become the Hell's Angels motorcycle club, his legal battles, prison time, and other related Hell's Angels stuff.

Sonny Barger is quite a writer, and this book is a well written look at an era in history of when the Hell's Angels ruled the biker world with an iron fist. You will not read another book like this, and you need not have an extensive education on the Hell's Angels to understand this book. While it's somewhat shocking, it has a lot of entertainment value and even some inspiration here and there.

Book Description

Not since Betty Eadie’s Embraced by the Light has a personal account of a Near-Death Experience (NDE) been so utterly different from most others—or nearly as compelling.

In the thirty years since Raymond Moody’s Life After Life appeared, a familiar pattern of NDEs has emerged: suddenly floating over one’s own body, usually in a hospital setting, then a sudden hurtling through a tunnel of light toward a presence of love. Not so in Howard Storm’s case.

Storm, an avowed atheist, was awaiting emergency surgery when he realized that he was at death’s door. Storm found himself out of his own body, looking down on the hospital room scene below. Next, rather than going “toward the light,” he found himself being torturously dragged to excruciating realms of darkness and death, where he was physically assaulted by monstrous beings of evil. His description of his pure terror and torture is unnerving in its utter originality and convincing detail.

Finally, drawn away from death and transported to the realm of heaven, Storm met angelic beings as well as the God of Creation. In this fascinating account, Storm tells of his “life review,” his conversation with God, even answers to age-old questions such as why the Holocaust was allowed to take place. Storm was sent back to his body with a new knowledge of the purpose of life here on earth. This book is his message of hope.

"This is a book you devour from cover to cover, and pass on to others. This is a book you will quote in your daily conversation. Storm was meant to write it and we were meant to read it."

-From the foreward by Anne Rice

As I lay on the ground, my tormentors swarming around me, a voice emerged from my chest. It sounded like my voice, but it wasn’t a thought of mine. I didn’t say it. The voice that sounded like my voice, but wasn’t, said, “Pray to God.” I remember thinking, “Why? What a stupid idea. That doesn’t work. What a cop-out . . .”

That voice said it again, “Pray to God!” It was more definite this time. I wasn’t sure what to do. Praying, for me as a child, had been something I had watched adults doing. It was something fancy and had to be done just so. I tried to remember prayers from my childhood experiences in Sunday school. Prayer was something you memorized. What could I remember from so long ago? Tentatively, I murmured a line, which was a jumble from the Twenty-third Psalm, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the Lord’s Prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and “God Bless America,” and whatever other churchly sounding phrases came to mind.

“Yea, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. For purple mountain majesty, mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. Deliver us from evil. One nation under God. God Bless America.”

To my amazement, the cruel, merciless beings tearing the life out of me were incited to rage by my ragged prayer. It was as if I were throwing boiling oil on them. They screamed at me, “There is no God! Who do you think you’re talking to? Nobody can hear you! Now we are really going to hurt you.” They spoke in the most obscene language, worse than any blasphemy said on earth. But at the same time, they were backing away.

5 out of 5 stars My Descent Into Death:A Second Chance at Life.......2007-09-05

There isn't a person walking the earth who would not benefit from reading this book. I had seen Mr Storm on TV once or twice, back in the 90's, and was quite impressed. I wondered if he'd ever write a book about his experiences. I recently found he had, bought the book, and devoured it. It hit me like a locomotive. Don't hesitate, don't think twice, BUY this book. You will never forget it and you'll come back to it time and again in the future, I promise.

5 out of 5 stars Q: What is the best religion?.......2007-08-28

A: The one that brings you closest to God!

I had first heard of Howard Storm back in 2005 during an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Immediately I could tell of this man's sincerity from his deeply profound near death experience. This was truly the first NDE that, after listening to, had touched me so much that it caused another spiritual awakening in my life. His account of hearing voices telling him (by name!) to follow them down a corridor of darkness were more frightening than anything Hollywood could ever conjure up. These strange beings appeared, at first, to simply be in a hurry and behaved rudely and indifferent to Howard Storm. They urged him to move forward with them to an unknown destination of ever increasing darkness. As he continued on with them he became more aware of their malevolence which frightened him. These strange dark beings sensed his fear and they increased their behavior towards Howard. He finally stopped and said he would go no further. It was at this point that the real torment for Howard Storm began!

Can you imagine the horror he must have felt during all of this? Here was a self proclaimed atheist who was admittedly very selfish and used anger and rage to get what he wanted in his life. Now the sum total of his existence was living in a place of utter darkness being tormented by unknown beings and eaten alive! So much for being an atheist.

It was at this point Howard called out to God, a God he firmly didn't believe existed. As he called out to God these raging tormentors began leaving him alone but not without continuing their curses at him. In fact it enraged them even more. But as Howard kept calling on God finally he was all alone in this place of absolute darkness.

Out of this darkness he percieved a light coming towards him that finally engulfed him and picked him up. This light was the total antithesis of what he had previously experienced. Now he was being loved completely in an unconditional manner.

There's so much more to Howard Storm's experience. If you're even remotely interested in near death experiences then you absolutely MUST read this man's account. I would have given this 6 stars but they only allow 5! That's how much I loved reading this book. His story is one of total transformation.

In this hour of our planet's existence we need to be transformed as well. Read this book and you'll catch a glimpse of the ineffable love that emanates from God.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favourite books ever.......2007-08-14

Howard Storm's book answers many questions in my mind about life, our purpose to live in this world, God, religion, and after life.
Although I am a Christian, I grew up in a Muslim countries and have many very nice Muslim friends that I love very much. I just cannot believe they will all go to hell just because they don't believe in Jesus.
Howard Storm explains clearly what God really wants from us, which is to love one another just the way He loves us. What a simple message, yet very true.
This book is the second most important book for me after the new testament.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing & Preachy.......2007-08-01

I was really looking forward to reading this book and was impressed with the first few chapters. However, Storm quickly got too preachy for my taste, and I actually found it quite repellent. The book started reading like a run-of-the-mill Christian sermon that went on and on. I had expected more. I would recommend Universe of Worlds by Robert Grant. Grant's book and workshop are where I had heard about the Storm book, which sadly turned out to be very disappointing. There is also very little on Hell in this book, though my impression had been that there was a lot more. That part of the book, though small, was interesting and well-written.

5 out of 5 stars very nice.......2007-06-26

Very nice testimony. As howard Strom went from being an atheist, and now is "all about evangelism".

he says some things that don't fit mainstream theology.

1. he says he saw life on other planets.
2. "The one that brings you closer to God" is just a common sense straight foward answer. We know that Jesus is the way, but whether you be religious or not, if you have not the bread of life, you have not life at all.
3. He uses the term "spiritual evolution" Although this makes since to many well scientifically educated people, to the average fundamentalist it wreaks of heresy.

A good testimony to those who can accept it, but very controversial.

Book Description

Many people spend more time planning a trip to Europe than they do preparing for their eternal homes. We are bombarded with suggestions concerning what awaits us when we cross the line from life to death. Is it as Betty Eadie claims, an eternal existence of peaceful and loving acceptance? Or could it be as Shirley MacLaine insists, simply reincarnation - a transfer from one body to another? We need not play this guessing game, wondering what will greet us on the other side - the Bible tells us that we can know for sure. For some, it will be a beautiful existence of eternal bliss; for others, an everlasting experience of pain and torment. And there will ever be a great gulf fixed between the two. The only question that remains is . . .which side will you be on?In One Minute After You Die Dr. Lutzer clearly enunciates what the Bible has to say about the life beyond. With biblical descriptions of the splendor of heaven and the horrors of hell, he authoritatively dispels fears for those who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ and presents the dread necessity for those who have yet to believe. Many who read it will be comforted; others will be disturbed; and everyone will be instructed. Each day is one step closer to eternity. Are you ready?

5 out of 5 stars A factual and objective look at DEATH.......2007-02-11

Regardless of your belief system, you will experience death. We have very few records from "behind the curtain". Most records are by those who didn't die. Christianity is the only religious system that deals with the subject reasonably. Erwin Lutzer's book is very complete and honestly looks at what we know and on not know. He finally rests his treatise on Bible.

It has helped me talk with others dealing with the reality we all face many times over. The reality of life is only realized as we face the reality of Death. I would wish it were in audio format. It is a helpful study: Ignorance and superstition, humor or fantacy, are no comfort. Read the book. It will help you and "yours" - forever.

This book is a MUST READ for any sober thinking person! I promise you!

5 out of 5 stars one min after you die.......2006-11-10

nice reading gets a person thinking as to what happens when we die

5 out of 5 stars Good.......2006-03-29

The moron BaylourBear says that a Calvinistic worldview is unbiblical.

I think he's an idiot.

This book and Dr. Lutzer's view are solid and as Biblical as they come.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as I had hoped.......2005-09-02

I am a fan of Lutzer's books for I find them to hit the nail going straight to the point, short yet full of teaching and of ease to read. Yet, I was a bit disappointed with this one.

`One minute after you die' presents the classic view of the after-life from the Christian perspective: its's heaven or hell...no midway, no reincarnation, no sleep, no chance for redemption after death. The view is explained without (yet maybe needed) complications, and is supported by decent amount of scripture referencing. It also attempt to describe what to expect to find in these respective destinations.

Unfortunately, this book barely skims over the subject and is intended for the beginners in faith. It doesn't expand on important ideas where is needed, and you feel that you haven't learned anything new.

This book is more like a `quick guide to the after-life'. Buy it if you are new to the faith and need to get grounded in the basics of what lies ahead after death. For the rest, there is definitely much better works out there to look for (I know I am).

5 out of 5 stars Life Altering Literature.......2001-11-25

I saw this book in the store, and it kept calling my name, for many reasons ... but it seemed a reasonable choice, at the time I was looking for ways to help my husband through some difficult times

Once i began reading the book, I found it to be a help to me spiritually . It covered all the bases of my relationship with God and my spouse. I knew I was being ministered to through this book.

I look at things so differently now... not just because of the author's practical applications of God's Word,(which was truly enlighting) , but the sheer ability to motivate me to change and place myself in a position to seek God more in regards to my marriage, and His total purpose for marriage.

5 out of 5 stars What An Incredibly Honest Book!!.......1999-06-06

Connie Neal is one of the best artists I have had the privilege of reading! Her work on this book, and research into the lives of real people in real situations is filled with honesty. Makes me know the feelings, thoughts I had as I journeyed with my husband through cancer were normal, and that I was not a flegling Christian because of my weakness.

Keep Writing Connie!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Thy will, not my will.......1999-06-04

This book made God's plan for marriage so clear. It provided a much needed contrast to what the world says marriage is.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring!.......1999-05-22

This book has given me hope. Please tell Connie Neal that I really appreciate her writing this book. Even though sometimes I feel like giving up on my marriage, I am trusting God for our future. Thanks again for a real inspirational book!

5 out of 5 stars What to do when there is nothing you can do........1999-04-16

I recently finished reading this book (devouring it is more of an apt description). My husband is, as I write, "going through hell", and I am clinging tenaciously to my God, because He is my only hope. All around me, I am being persuaded to "let him go", " get rid of him", etc, - the world's answers to all problems - discard & recycle. Jesus very graciously led me to Connie Neal's book. At last, here in written form was the feelings of my heart - what about all the promises I made to You, Lord, & the promises You made to me? I loved this book and have re-read it now several times over these past couple of months. I am doing all that Connie suggests that she and the others she wrote about who have experienced first hand the anguish of storms and trials in their marriages did when there was nothing they could do other than turn to God. I am so grateful for the honesty and obedience of all these christians who have exposed the most awful times of their lives for the encouragement of ME. Watch this space to see how God triumphs!!!
