Book Description
Over three decades and more than 150 million albums, AC/DC has established itself as much more than just a great rock band. For millions of fans spanning several generations across the world, they are an ear-bleedingly loud, sweat-soaked religion, courtesy of such classic albums as Highway to Hell and Back in Black.
Now, in a book of astonishing breadth and scope, comes, for the very first time, the complete story of AC/DC. Everything you ever wanted to know and plenty more you never dreamt of is all here, the ultimate balls-out adventure, laced with sex, drunken escapades and brawls. It's a journey that started in the suburban Sydney, Australia, bedrooms of brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, boys who could wreak havoc with their guitars. Over their power chords were the lyrics and voice of Bon Scott, who would lead them higher and higher—until his tragic death in 1980. The bittersweet irony after his death was that not only did the Youngs manage to hold together without him, but the band's fortunes and status skyrocketed with his replacement, Brian Johnson, and the album Back in Black.
Five long years in the making, AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll is sourced from more than 1,300 interviews the band has given over the past thirty years combined with in excess of 75 of the authors' own interviews with those who worked with AC/DC both in the studio and on the road—many of whom have never spoken about the band publicly. It's topped off with stunning, never-before-seen photos to create the ultimate portrait of the ultimate rock band.
Customer Reviews:
Shoot to Thrill!.......2007-07-06
A great look into the AC/DC story. Learned quite a bit about the band and this well written and compelling without suffering the usual rock bio cliches.
Rockingest band ever.......2007-06-05
Interesting book about the band. Found references to early shows and bands and looked them up on YouTube.
Show business.......2007-05-15
It's a good book but not a GREAT one. I'm missing more detailed info about the recording sessions, making of the LPs etc. I'm sure a lot of research has gone into making the book but somehow it's lacking in depth and structure. Sorry to say but I was expecting a little bit more effort, as the book was so much hyped.
However, this book is a must for any big AC/DC fan (like myself)and I recommend it.
P.S. If you are a Who fan read "Dear boy, life of Keith Moon". That is absolutely the best rock'n'roll book I have ever read.
Bored to Tears.......2007-03-26
For decades now I've been a huge AC/DC fan and eagerly bought this book to validate many of the myths surrounding them. It was definitely full of facts but very repetetive. . ."Despite the bands small stature they were very street tough." Seems to be on every page of the book. From paragraph to paragraph the subject changes making it a hard-to-follow read. There's no story line, and I found myself bored to death. The author could have learned a few things from the writers of "The Dirt".
By Far The Best Book Available On AC/DC.......2007-03-22
Without the shadow of a doubt this is the best book available on AC/DC. From the members pre AC/DC early years, through to the bands Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame induction and beyond, it's all here.
Whether you're a die hard fan, or just have a passing interest in the group, this book has been painfully researched by Murray Engleheart & Arnaud Durieux to provide an accurate account of the bands formation, devolpment, determination and eventual success.
The highs & lows are all covered, from the bands early success, to Bon Scott's tragic death, to the triumph that was "Back In Black". Find out what made this band tick.

Very Nice.......2001-08-10
I really like this play along book. It's everything I've been looking for. The play along tracks with it are:
LET THERE BE ROCK, HELL AIN'T A BAD PLACE TO BE, WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE, HELLS BELLS, BACK IN BLACK, FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK, SIN CITY, HIGHWAY TO HELL,
I just wish [they had been] listed here before I bought, so I hope this helps everyone else.

Customer Reviews:
Sorry but I must whine, I agree with Hunt.......2005-03-15
I have been playing guitar for seventeen years. I play in an AC/DC cover band, and have so, for eleven years. I have studied Angus and Malcolm Young's guitar playing techniques for many years now and I have to agree with Michael Hunt that these tabs are very inaccurately transcribed. It might give you a head start on how to play "similar versions" of the song. If I was going to pay XX amount of dollars to purchase such a magazine I would appreciate it if I got what I payed for. The transcriptions might teach a basic guitarist a rhythm here or there, but you will not be playing like Malcolm or Angus. So if you are looking to learn how the songs are truly played, then this book is hardly any help. I wont go into technical detail about what I found to be transcribed incorrectly, but I will say whoever did the transcriptions knew nothing about AC/DC or the classic Young brothers style. I was able to borrow this book from my local library, if you can, do so too. In the long run this book will teach you some AC/DC songs. But if you want to play just like Malcolm Young or the worlds oldest schoolboy, then I recommend you look elsewhere then this collection of tab.
TO OWEN HOWARD: You have a prime exsample. Because that is only one of many incorect transscibes. the correct way is to play that part of The Jack is;
E-------
B-------
G-------
D-------
A--12---
E--7----
but that is only one guitar. The other plays something different which this magazine does not even reffer to in the slightest way. It says both guitars do the same thing. No they don't.
Stop your whining.......2005-01-09
The tabs in this book may not be perfect, but they are usuable. Anyone who wants to learn an AC/DC song can pick up this book, find it, and learn to play it almost perfectly. People can just look online for the corrections, or try it by ear.
This large book has under 1000 pages, filled with over 80 songs by the greatest Hard Rockers of all time, AC/DC. I only have one niggle, not the minor incorrections, but almost impossible chord fingering in some songs, like this one I found in 'The Jack'
e|---
B|---
G|---
D|-7-
A|-2-
E|---
How the smeg is that possible?
This book is great!.......2005-01-09
This is one of the best guitar books ever...plus this band rocks!
Not worth the price for INCORRECT tabs.......2004-04-09
This book is not worth the money. AMSCO have gotten so many tabs wrong from the very begining. The one I always check first is WHO MADE WHO which AMSCO have always transcribed it wrong, showing it beeing played with the opening riff as D5, C5, A5.... the correct way as any one who plays the song sould know is C5, A5, G5.... around 15 years since there incorect transription, they still have not even bothered to correct there mistake and tab the song propperly!
Too many songs are tabbed incorectly. And I have only ever seen them correct themselves on 1 tab "Whole lotta rosie" any one who had "THE BEST OF AC/DC" tab book, knows what i mean, but since then they have corrected it... but apart from that one song, there are still way too many to count that have been incorectly tabbed...and this is the ultimate collection in carlelessness tabbing!
Dont pay more then $5 for this book. Its not worth the price. AMSCO should have been informed by now that they have printed out inccorect tabs. And its major songs such as "Thunderstruck" - "you shook me all night long" - "hells bells" - "long way to the top" - "heat seeker" - "TNT" - "Hard as a rock" -and many many more are tabbed incorect!
Its not worth buying this book when you are supposed to be reading and learning how to play these great AC/DC songs and they have been done inccorectly, and very sloppy
Avoid AMSCO when it comes to AC/DC tabs!

play guitar with ac/dc.......2007-01-18
I bought it for my son and he was playing it within hours and he is just a beginner! Good product!
Good Tablature Book if Anything.......2006-08-08
The concept of this product is great but, it doesnt live up to the hype. There is supposed to be no lead guitar on the background tracks yet a lead is audible on many of the tracks. I can just use an AC/DC CD for that. It is fun to play with but, not what I thought it would be. If you can get it used for under $10 bucks, go for it.
If you like early Brian Johnson tunes, You'll like this..........2006-02-01
Good book and companion CD. I like earlier AC\DC stuff with B. Scott but these songs are good too. I remember hearing these songs for the first time in junior high school back in 1980! Who needs a band anyway. Just crank up the CD and jamm along...
QC problem.......2004-08-19
My only complain is that the track 1 and 7 are the same (Back in Black). The 7 should have the lead guitar removed. It seems a QC problem.
But the sund quality is ok and the tabs are Ok.
A must buy for AC/DC fans!.......2004-04-10
I bought this book and cd from Amazon.com because I always wanted to play AC/DC songs on the guitar. The book has both tabulature and standard notation for you to read so you can play. The book explains how to read them and other symbols used in the music. Tabulature is very easy to understand, but if the book does not explain it well enough for you, go to www.olga.net for more information on how to read tab. The book also has the lyrics to all the songs. The CD has each song in the book with out lyrics, and then has the songs again but without the lead guitar so you can play as the lead guitarist. I suggest that anyone that has a guitar and is an AC/DC fan should get this book and CD.

BAD PURCAHSE.......2004-04-09
This book contains too many incorrect errors and sloppy made tabs that arnt even close to the way they are played!
Who made who is played in C,A,G...NOT D,C,A like this book shows.......I dont even know what they have tabbed as the solo for Whole Lotta Rosie.. but trust me its 100% wrong!!!!!
dont pay more then $5 for this book, because theres not much to be learnt from inccorect tabbing!
A Triumphant Tome for those who love Angus Young's Chops!.......2000-10-08
This book is an absolute must-have for anyone who plays the guitar and loves the timeless music of AC/DC. The songs transcribed are true classics and the arrangements are predominantly note-by-note accurate. Granted, most mere mortals don't possess the speed or technical abilities of Angus Young, the incomparable lead guitarist, or his rythem-playing brother, Malcolm, but with perseverance and practice, this book will bring many hours of smiles and maximum riffing. A hearty Angus fist up to this book!

Greatest beginners book!.......2004-06-02
This is my best introductory to dc/ac electronics book out there and this beats them all. All of the other books are too complicated and missing quite a few important concepts. This book covers all of the basics and has a very nice approach for learners like me that has difficulty comprehending new material. Nice review and test questions in the back. Only main drawback is price... ouch
