Amazon.com's Best of 2001
In a book world awash in sword-slinging fantasy novels, each trying to out-Jordan the other, the arrival of yet another big new series on the scene is... no big deal. But much to the delight of readers bored to tears by doorstopper clones, Elizabeth Haydon's three-part tale is unique, thrilling, and utterly romantic from start to finish. The story of a magical singer of extraordinary power and her battle with a blood-soaked demon began in Rhapsody: Child of Blood and continued in Prophecy: Child of Earth. The trilogy's final volume, Destiny: Child of the Sky offers fantasy fans something they crave, but don't often see--a great ending.
When last we saw our lovely heroine Rhapsody and her two best friends Achmed and Grunthor, they had just rescued the Sleeping Child from the evil tendrils of the F'dor. But as they found out through the tragic loss of their young friend Jo, the three must follow the demon's trail of violence and blood, finding the children it has spawned across the land in order to track it down and destroy it once and for all. As in the previous two books, Rhapsody's love of her friends and desire to save children in danger drive her most reckless actions.
Elizabeth Haydon delivers us from the fantasy traps of never-ending plots, wooden characters, and yawn-inducing battles. She takes much of her style from romance and suspense novels, rather than historical fiction, giving her books real depth of emotion and humanity. It's true that there are spots of sentimentality that may leave some hardened adventure fans groaning, but that very thing may help explain why Haydon's books have succeeded with crossover romance readers so admirably. We can only hope she'll set her sights on another swoony adventure as soon as possible. --Therese Littleton

Trilogy Plus How Many More?.......2007-09-13
When I read the word, "Trilogy" it conjures up, well, THREE. In that the story is told and comes to a conclusion in Three books. Sure a story can be expounded upon after the Trilogy is done (especially if there is reader interest in the story and characters) But the Trilogy should be Done in Three books... Not the Third book ending with a blatant "To Be Continued" as this one does. That, to me, would be a Quadrupoly or a Quintupoly. And from what I'm looking at on-line, it looks like this story may end up being a Sextupoly or More. (As others have mentioned, I don't think I could stand that many books worth of the Rhapsody/Ashe romance.)
Having said That, I liked the overall story line just fine. I personally wanted to have more Achmed and Grunthor included in the second and third books. Instead their presence lessened with each subsequent book altho' they remained woven into important aspects of each story.
The romance between Rhapsody & Ashe became adolescent after a while so that aspect of the story lost my interest early in its inception. I was quite glad that they "road off in opposite directions" for the majority of this book.
I liked that it was the original three, Rhapsody, Achmed & Grunthor that took on the F'dor by themselves.
I thought that the unification of the Cymrian peoples was accomplished too easily and couldn't quite buy into it happening pretty much right off the bat. With all of the glorius detail that Ms. Hayden put into her books (and she does write with glorious detail!) I would have liked to see more detail as to Why Rhapsody was able to bring centuries of hostilities between people to an end in one day.
I go into reading books with the understanding that I might not like every aspect of a story so I do say that these books are well worth reading for fantasy fans. I May go on to read more but as of this moment I haven't ordered Book 4 (or 5) of this "Trilogy".
Destiny - Second book in Rapsody trilogy.......2007-05-07
I enjoyed this book better than the first. It had more action and the characters were doing more.
Good, but..........2007-01-19
I actually really enjoyed these books quite a lot. I love epic fantasy, Robin Hobb being one of my favorite authors. So when I read the placard next to the Robin Hobb books in Borders that said "If you like Robin Hobb, you'll LOVE Elizabeth Haydon's Rhapsody series" I immediately picked up all three and began reading them right away.
What a disappointment, all in all. The books are well written, but totally OVER-written. Page after page describing colors and sounds and scenery. I mean, I certainly understand that good fantasy is full of descripitive details that allow the reader to see the beauty of the world created by the author, but Ms. Haydon completely over did it with these books.
I love Rhapsody as a character, but by the end of the third book, I was almost as disgusted with Rhapsody and Gwydion's romance as I was with Azhure and Axis' "romance" in Sara Douglass' Wayfarer Redemption series. It became so generic during the second book that I actually skipped paragraphs, then pages, because I was so tired of reading about the perfection of their love. They fall in love, he tells a lie, she gets angry and hits him, he smiles and shakes his head, they make love.. then he lies again, she finds out and refuses to speak to him, he bears his soul and they make love... Give me a break. I HATED reading about the number of times that he would take her hand and kiss it, or she would hold his face in her arms and kiss him, how he would scream her name frantically when he couldn't find her and then she'd run to him and kiss him, how he was as possessive of her like a dragon hoards his treasure... The epilogue of Destiny makes it clear WHY the book was written like a love story between Gwydion and Rhapsody, but MY GOD, the kisses and hugs and giggles made me roll my eyes. Not because it was mentioned - Ms. Haydon went out of her way to make human interaction as realistic as possible, and kissing and giggling is inevitable in many real life loves - but it was mentioned SO OFTEN. For an 835 page book, 400 of those pages were full of rubbish descriptions of colors, scenery, Rhapsody's clothes, Ashe's eyes and 2 adults in the midst of puppy love. I should have gone to the Young Adult section of Borders.
In addition, the ENDLESS references to Rhapsody's beauty made me nauseous. Okay, we get it - Rhapsody was beautiful. I was really hoping that Ms. Haydon would help the reader to understand why it was that everyone else saw the difference in her, even though she didn't see it in herself. After walking through fire, Achmed and Grunther both noted the change - so why, when Rhapsody looked in the mirror, did she see no difference in her appearance? I was really hoping that the end of the book would reveal something like, the purity of her soul made her as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside, so other people could see it but she couldn't. But it didn't. The fact that people always wanted to touch her and look at her and buy her things and possess her and screw her made me yawn. Again, it made me think of Azhure and Fariday from the Wayfarer's Redemption - 6 books and I only read 5 because I was SO FED UP with the main characters that I didn't care how the series ended. I found it sort of upsetting that it was Rhapsody's beauty that made her so powerful, that made people listen to her - she was wise and kindhearted and refreshing to be around. So HOW did it add to the story that every man who saw her lusted for her? I don't necessarily think that a heroine has to be ugly - but does her beauty have to be referenced on EVERY PAGE?
I was really upset near the end of the books because I was hoping to read more about Achmed and Grunthor. I didn't understand the sudden attraction he had for Rhapsody - in fact, I didn't understand why she shared passionate kisses with every man she met (spoilers ahead), Anborn, Constantin, Ashe and Achmed. But I thought his character was extremely well written and mysterious and real. In addition, I think part of the prophecy of the Three - the part that mentions Grunther as the one who abandons - NEVER comes to fruition. Who did he abandon? The sleeping child? Maybe I'm just slow.
Anyway, as I've said, I really did enjoy the books, despite my ranting above. I just found Ms. Haydon's depiction of Rhapsody to be obnoxious and overdone. I think someone mentioned previously that she probably had this story in her heart for a long time and had to get it on paper, and I totally respect that. And perhaps the love between Ashe and Rhapsody was her fantasy love story - but I feel that it really could have been done better. I'll probably continue to read her books, because I did love the story. I just hope that I don't ever have to read about how someone's "smile outshone the sun" 50 times in one single book.
Page Turner.......2006-08-17
The first of a vibrant series of page turners- you'll want to read the whole series as the next adventure starts when the book you're reading is just coming to a close. colorful characters, plenty of adventure, a dash of magic and mystery, and prophecy to keep you guessing. A must read!
good... if you're looking for a romance novel........2006-08-03
I orginally picked up this series because I thought it was fantasy, with a little bit of a love story thrown in. Turns out, it's a romance novel with a fantasy setting. I despise the 'perfection' of the main character, as well as Ashe's (and everyone else's) obsession for her. I find Rhapsody's perfection only to be evident in that the author tells us it is so, rather than Rhapsody's actions. She is quick tempered and judgemental, and feels she is always justified in her opinions and actions.
It's a shame that the series ended up like this. I enjoyed the first book enough to buy the next two books at the same time. I didn't expect the plot to be overshadowed by Rhapsody's rather obnoxious relationship.
Book Description
It must be a part of human nature to love drama. We never would have sold as many records -- and we never would have been this popular -- if our member changes did not happen. Up until that point, we were squeaky-clean nice girls who couldn't get on the cover of any magazines. --Beyoncé Knowles
They're beautiful, they're talented, they're bootylicious . . .
From first kisses and broken hearts to pillow fights and legal battles to losing friends and finding strength in God, Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams share it all. Their example of survival has made Destiny's Child one of the most beloved, bestselling female groups ever.
Here for the first time, the three share the struggles that have made them stronger, from Beyoncé's battles with weight loss and shyness, Kelly's coming to terms with growing up without a dad, and Michelle's triumph over grade-school bullies. They've grown up under the media microscope, and have had to deal with lineup changes and media rumors. Now they set the record straight.
The demands and drama, the schedules and scrutiny -- from the tour bus to the dressing rooms to backstage at awards shows, Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle talk about what it takes to be successful. Whether it's changing outfits in the rain, changing their hair color, or changing a name, they've done it.
Don't be mistaken, they're not a prefab group of young girls -- they're smart, independent women with a lot of soul. When these ladies had only minutes of studio time to work with Wyclef Jean to remix one of their songs, they didn't stress, they just started singing faster -- and the result was a unique sound that put them on the map. Everyone has caught on to the Destiny's Child groove -- Whitney Houston, Bono, and Michael Jackson have all given them props, and the King of Pop himself serenaded them with a rendition of Bootylicious.
Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle take you behind the scenes of a video rehearsal at which Aaliyah rewound their practice music, to the set of Austin Powers 3, where a starstruck Beyoncé felt anything but foxy before auditioning for the part of Foxxy Cleopatra, and backstage at the Grammys, where a last-minute costume change fiasco nearly kept Michelle from going onstage.
With total honesty, these soul survivors not only dish the details of their past, but share their hopes, plans, and dreams for the future.

DC3.......2005-03-21
I READ THIS BOOK AND I WAS SHOCKED AT HOW GOOD IT WAS. IT TALKED ABOUT THE MEMBERS OF DESTINY'S CHILD AND THEIR LIVES AT HOME AS WELL AS ON THE ROAD. IT TALKED ABOUT THE MEMBER CHANGES AND WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. IT TALKED ABOUT THEIR STRUGGLES WITH GETTING A RECORD DEAL AS WELL AS THE STRUGGLES WITH THE MEDIA. I REALLY LIKE THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT TALKED ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT THE MAGAZINES DONT.IT MADE ME FEEL AS IF I KNEW THEM. IF ASKED IF I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO A FRIEND I WOULD BECAUSE IT'S AND EXCELENT BOOK.
the best book!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-01-05
It is a great book. I definetly recommend it. It tells what happened with the group members, first kisses, boyfriends. I never ever wanted to read a book,{BECAUSE I AM NOT A GOOD READER} but when i got the book i couldnt put it down. I read it in one day and i am a slow reader. They didnt say anything bad about farrah, letoya, or latavia. I WOULD always recommend you to get the book, and it is worth every penny. You wont be disappointed. Also it tells about their childhood, with pics which is cool.
P.S: You can have a opinion but dont hate, appreciate. Also u will probably hurt their feeling so dont say anything stupid.
very good book.......2004-03-12
the book is very good i want to read over and over again and i like how they put pictures in the middle of the book and they talk about their child hood but they talk to much about the break up but not the future and what they have accomplished as a group with out the other members but i would recomend this book
It's Pretty Good.......2003-02-10
I enjoy Destiny's Child, and I thought it would be interesting ot read about them. It was a good book mostly, and you learn a lot about these three members, like their childhood, early life, school years, how they joined Destiny's Child, and more. What was strange to me was the title of this book. I really am not sure that these three rich woman who are famous all around the world are really "soul survivors". What did they survive? Sure, they lost three group members but that's about it. Another thing that bothered me was that the book was mostly Beyonce this, Beyonce that. She did most of the writing, or should I say talking because they just told their story to James Patrick Herman, who actually wrote it. Also, it seems like the book is mainly about her. So what, she writes their songs and is their (Destiny's Child) lead singer. It dosn't mean she should always get all of the attention! Overall, the book is great, but I think big Destiny's Child fans would like it the most.
Destiny's child are talented.......2003-02-02
The book gave a look into the lives of the group destiny's child and the women. I just don't feel it. I think the only way to be really honest is to have the ex-members tell there side a well. If it's not that way then you're really getting a one sided story. And I need to hear everybody's piece. I think they are talented and everything, but really you are just throwing away money if you get this. Money that could be in your pockets. Please do not keep slipping further into idol worship. This are just people. Some of ya'll need to really calm down. Some girl was going off. Like she was a friend of those girls. Just like she, said she don't know them personally either. So how can she try to make it like they are just survivors, no. They really honestly didn't lose anything. Everybody is picked, shy sometimes, and grows up without a father. Just because they are stars do not make there story more heart touching. I need to hear from everybody to know the truth. That's just me. So For all of ya'll obsessed crazy fans. Please, calm down. It ain't that serious, really. Remember they are just people, psychos.

Dad is Destiny for better or worse.......2007-03-06
When a woman makes peace with her father she makes peace with a fundamental part of herself. When you see a confident woman whose ability to hold her own esteem without overdependance on external validation ... that is most likely a father's daughter. These are women whose fathers were there, who protected them, and who were instrumental in being an involved parent. Such women have a healthy template for emotionally healthy relationship with a man and are often secure in their identity. If dad encouraged her to excel, she does. A friend of mine had a father who was a corporate lawyer of much success who pushed her in athletics to the point she was on the 1980 Canadian Olympic Speed Skating Team that went to Lake Placid BEFORE she was a legal adult. My father was frustrated that I hadn;t mastered the alphabet by age 5 that he drilled the ABCs into me one night after dinner until I walked away from the table reading a book cover to cover without stammering. Ever since then I became a bookworm and his demand that average was unacceptable still haunts me - especially when I have my share of failures like we all do. Just like Athena and her father Zues (see Awakening Athena) this is the father's legacy whole and distinct from a mother.
On the flip side women who have not made peace with a less than favorable relationship to their father owe it to themselves to heal this loss. Every female should have two involved biological parents or adoptive parents. Sadly, this is not the case. So ... the best thing is to co-opt the experience through the proper counselling and finding role models that heal. That said, it is best for women still hurting from father loss to NOT use a boyfriend or spouse to work out their father issues. Healing at the source is the best and sometimes just making peace with it once and for all independant of whether dad ever comes around is a gift you give yourself.
Ernest Stevens.......2006-11-28
I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this book for any proud father. I was overwhelmed by the heart felt warmth on dealing with children and especially the understanding that it is never too late to make a diffence. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.
Could change families' lives.......2005-10-24
Ed McGlasson was a guest on our radio show this morning in Detroit, and generated one of the largest listener responses we have ever received from an author. Ed actually took the time to call my co-host's husband directly, encouraging him to read the book. He did, and found himself completely re-energized by the experience. This is a book for every man, father or father-to-be.
An Adolescent to Adult Transition Manual for Fathers.......2005-01-06
This compact book gave me surprisingly practical and inspiring answers to questions I've struggled with as a father to three teenage kids - "How do I develop a deep and affirming relationship with my children, help them grow them into what they're capable of, and let them know when they've crossed the `goal-line' into adulthood?"
The author - who is an active pastor, ex-professional football player, and father of five - uses moving examples from his own family life, anecdotes from his pastoral counseling work, and surprisingly relevant and poignant stories from the Bible to paint a roadmap for fathers like me who do indeed want to make a difference in the lives of their kids.
Book Description
It is between the ages of nine and ten that children begin to experience themselves as "I" for the first timeas separate individuals, different from their parents and peers and essentially alone. This inner experience is sometimes precipitated by the child's first encounter with death and the first notion that earthly life is fragile and temporary.
In this insightful book, Koepke offers the reader a lucid, accessible description of the outer signs and symptoms of this significant turning point in every child's life.

Fun to read.......2004-08-30
This book can apply to women and men! Tina Knowles tells that a person should develop there own look using color, fabrics etc.
It's funny how Tina writes that a person is bootylicious, when they come up with their own stlye. But when a person follows all of the latest fads etc., they are nasty/trasy. And I couldn't disagree. It's a good read
Pretty Good.......2003-07-18
Even though it's full of really great ideas and tips. I would like to see some works that she has done for Non-Destiny's Child people.
A good read...but really a good buy?.......2003-01-25
A longtime fan of Destiny's Child, I enjoyed this book. It was an inside peak at the lives of the triple platinum trio...but I found the price a little sketchy. Tina Knowles (Beyonce's Mom) also gives tips on how to look awesome, but the majority of these tips are old. Really...how does she expect us to run around customizing everything, and it'll turn out looking amazing? Hmmm. If you recieve this book as a gift, it's good, but I would recommend buying it unless you have experience in customizing.
Destiny's Style is Bootylicious!.......2002-10-15

Destiny's Style rocks the proverbial house, giving you an insider's look at the girl group's rockin' style, impeccable taste, and bangin' wardrobes. A must have for any fan or celebrity obsessed fashionista!

Book Description
A perceptive examination of the on-going debate over the influence of genetics in our lives.
Customer Reviews:
Nothing new.......2004-02-22
This book has nothing that I was looking for...
It's not very well fundamented on scientific studies, nor it is a thourough study of what Nature (genes) and Nurture (environment, education) can influence you.
It's just a fun reading for a weekend, nothing more.
The author just finalizes by saying that it's not anyone's fault that they are what they are... and they can't blame their parents for their inherited genes or by the education they had, because parents allways hope for the best...
Nothing new...
Delivers.......1999-05-07
Excellent look at the question of "Nature Versus Nurture In Human Behavior", assuming you like getting facts and percentages from good quantitative studies, and you'd also like to know why the studies were good, and you don't want any speculative unified theories. It rambles off the point from time to time, though I found it rambles fairly engagingly myself. My favorite item in the book is about schizophrenia in identical twins. If one identical twin has it, the chances the other has it are around 1 in 3. When one with and one without the disease are looked at with magnetic resonance imaging it can be seen that their brains are significantly different in structure and function.

Adoption as God's Plan for your child.......2005-12-20
I'm purchasing a copy for my children's school library. This story contains many important aspects of how God builds families transracially and transculturally. Significantly, God is presented as the Creator who has a special plan for all of His creation. Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ allows the believer to be adopted into God's family, which is "even more important" than a first adoption. Trust in God's plan for the adopted child leads to peace, acceptance, and joy for birthparents, adoptive parents, and importantly for adopted children. Every Christian adoptive family should have this book!
Product Description
Who among us wants our children to be free from the struggles we have had to bear? Who among us wants the hard-earned lessons from our lives given freely to our children? You can be one of those who share the excitement and joy of seeing your children step into the destiny that God has for them.

Outrageously funny time-travel romance!.......2000-05-04
Psychic Dakota Wylie is very much a 1990's woman with an attitude. Unfortunately, she was literally fading away & had to time-travel in a red hot-air balloon with some friends to New Jersey at the start of winter 1779! Patrick Devane is a masterspy--but for which side: Loyalist or Patriot?
I absolutely adored Dakota's independent spirit, big mouth, & extra pounds! Wisecracks & hilarious commentaries fill her head & spill from her mouth non-stop!
Now I have to read the first two in the series!!.......1999-10-22
Finally a heroine who isn't skinny and perfect. I fell in love with Dakota right away - she was funny and smart and really terrific. Now I have to find the other two books where she was introduced. Great time travel
