Book Description
Neuroimaging: Clinical and Physical Principles is destined to be the new benchmark among text/reference books for neuroradiology. Unique among all similar titles is this book's complete coverage of ALL imaging modalities and techniques used in modern neuroimaging, from MR (including up-to-the minute developments in fast MR, MRA, and FLAIR), to CT, ultrasonography, angiography, plain film, and myelography. Many topics that are covered little if at all in standard neuroimaging texts are given complete, state-of-the-art descriptions in this book, including: imaging of the head, neck, temporal bone, orbit, and sinuses; normal variants; imaging of pediatric neurologic diseases and developmental anomalies; imaging of trauma to the head, brain, and spine; interventional techniques, both intracranial and spinal; and sedation of both adult and pediatric patients. The book is rounded out with complete coverage of the Physical Principles that underlie modern Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The ten chapters in this section provide everything the radiologist must know such as; the physical basics of MR and CT; MR and CT contrast agents and their applications; hardware and safety issues; image acquisition and artifacts; and more! Each chapter is organized to provide fast answers to everyday clinical problems. Numerous tables and lists summarize imaging protocols and differential diagnoses for rapid reference, while the text of each chapter provides a thorough review of the state of the art neuroimaging procedures. Chapters reveal potential imaging findings for numerous conditions and direct the reader towards the imaging technique that will reveal the most informative results under each circumstance.
Customer Reviews:
Amazingly useful book........2002-10-03
One of the best and most up-to-date treatises, covering all aspects of neuroradiology. The first few chapters cover the clinically relevant aspects of MRI physics which I have found extremely helpful. New and advanced MRI techniques are well covered from both a basic and clinical standpoint, a vital element not quite seen in other books. This book effectively fills the empty void between older and introductory textbooks such as Osborn's or Requisites and the multivolume subspecialty textbooks on various aspects of neuroradiology. The authors are an international group of experts in their field, mostly from the US. There is coverage of clinically relevant MRI physics, adult and pediatric brain imaging, orbits, sinuses, skull base, and the spine. There are also chapters on myelography, interventional neuroradiology, and spine interventions. The liberal use of tables in some chapters is very helpful and the figures are very well selected and produced.
A good general text.......2000-05-30
This is a good general text for anyone wanting to review both MRI physics and predominantly MRI neuroradiology. There are areas that use some CT etc., but the emphasis is definitely on MRI.
A good textbook of neuroradiology.......2000-04-12
According to the publisher's advertisement, this single-volume textbook of neuroradiology "is destined to be the new benchmark among text/reference books for neuroradiology etc". This flagrant overstatement should not discredit the book. Despite the usual problems with multi-authored books of this size (the style is not uniform, particular chapters do generally better than others, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is not the same as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease), this book is generally well-organized, its coverage is comprehensive enough and by this time it is probably the most up-to-date textbook of neuroradiology in the market.

Essential Echocardiography: A Practical Handbook with DVD (Contemporary Cardiology)
ASIN: 1846280281 |
Book Description
CT is an accurate technique for assessing cardiac structure and function, but advances in computing power and scanning technology have resulted in increased popularity. It is useful in evaluating the myocardium, coronary arteries, pulmonary veins, thoracic aorta, pericardium, and cardiac masses; because of this and the speed at which scans can be performed, CT is even more attractive as a cost-effective and integral part of patient evaluation. This book collates all the current knowledge of cardiac CT and presents it in a clinically relevant and practical format appropriate for both cardiologists and radiologists. The images have been supplied by an experienced set of contributing authors and represent the full spectrum of cardiac CT. As increasing numbers have access to cardiac CT scanners, this book provides all the relevant information on this modality. A CD-ROM is included containing a large number of cardiac CT images and videos, providing the reader with a dynamic primer in cardiac CT diagnosis.
CD Contents:
1. Orientation to axial images (135 images)
2. Orientation to 3D images (119 images)
3. Coronary artery calcium axial images (2 images)
4. Ejection fraction/short axis (1 video)
5. Circulation time axial images and graph (3 images)
6. CT coronary angiography (8 videos)
7. Left atrial 3D anatomy (8 videos, 1 image)
8. Extracardiac vascular anatomy (4 videos)

Customer Reviews:
Excellent product........2007-07-22
This is a great book for those beginning to learn cardiac CT. The physics part is not very extensive, but is clear enough for a non-radiologist (ie cardiology fellow) to follow.
Must have book for CTA.......2007-06-28
I bought this book because I had heard of Budoff and ended up completing the course offered by Rumberger. The book was thorough yet concise, easy to read yet containing complicated subject matter. My friend bought a different CT book and he ended up reading mine becuase he liked it better. Definately would recommend the book. The book will also help you fly through Level II training.
Cardiac CT Imaging: Diagnosis of Cardiovascular Disease.......2007-04-07
Best delivered price. Quick delivery. Doesn't get any better!
cardiac ct ABC.......2007-03-27
A reasonably helpful book when learning how to do cardiac ct.
Latter chapters seem a bit out of context (?? written earlier than the first half of the book).
best in class.......2006-11-25
this is the best cardiac CT textbook I have found. Very useful for those entering the field, as well as those who have been in the field for a while

Book Description
Crystallography Made Crystal Clear makes crystallography accessible to readers who have no prior knowledge of the field or its mathematical basis. This is the most comprehensive and concise reference for beginning Macromolecular crystallographers, written by a leading expert in the field. Rhodes' uses visual and geometric models to help readers understand the mathematics that form the basis of x-ray crystallography. He has invested a great deal of time and effort on World Wide Web tools for users of models, including beginning-level tutorials in molecular modeling on personal computers. Rhodes' personal CMCC Home Page also provides access to tools and links to resources discussed in the text. Most significantly, the final chapter introduces the reader to macromolecular modeling on personal computers-featuring SwissPdbViewer, a free, powerful modeling program now available for PC, Power Macintosh, and Unix computers. This updated and expanded new edition uses attractive four-color art, web tool access for further study, and concise language to explain the basis of X-ray crystallography, increasingly vital in today's research labs.
* Helps readers to understand where models come from, so they don't use them blindly and
inappropriately
* Provides many visual and geometric models for understanding a largely mathematical method
* Allows readers to judge whether recently published models are of sufficiently high quality and detail to be useful in their own work
* Allows readers to study macromolecular structure independently and in an open-ended fashion on their own computers, without being limited to textbook or journals illustrations
* Provides access to web tools in a format that will not go out of date. Links will be updated and added as existing resources change location or are added
Customer Reviews:
Crystal Clear.......2007-01-17
The delivery was prompt and in the item was in an excellent condition
Clear, but lack depth and practice problem.......2006-12-07
Crystallography Made Crystal Clear does clearly explain the principles of X-ray Crystallography. I used this book for a graduate class in introductory x-ray crystallography when I deemed that the assigned book for the class, Principles of Protein X-Ray Crystallography, unhelpful.
Crystallography Made Crystal Clear presents the theory behind crystallography in the most straightforward way possible. Whenever possible, concepts are explained in words and by examples instead of with equations. This elimates derivations that are not necessary to understand key concepts.
Although explanations in the book are clear, they are often too brief. The book also does not have any practice problems, which is a major drawback. If you are taking a crystallography class, I would take a look at this book but focus more heavily on the lecture notes and problems from class. Honestly, I haven't found a really good crystallography book, but this one at least is not too confusing.
Clear as a crystal!!!!.......2005-01-30
This book is a good one. Explains every aspect I always want to know about crystallography. In my first class of biochemistry I discover that I really like the macromolecular models, but my biochemistry book doesn't content much information about this subjet. When I discover this book I bought it, and read it, and I must to say that this book explain every aspect of the process of create a molecular model.
After read this book I thinking about to become a crystallographer.
The best introduction to the subject.......2004-06-15
This is the best introduction to crystallography I have ever come across. Which is quite an achievement, because its a difficult subject to understand. In crystallography, its very rare to find a book which does not deal with either a totally descriptive approach or a totally mathematical approach. Rhodes' book bridges the gap between the two and gives the reader the right dose of jargon and explanation. He illustrates every point with plenty of figures as well as real life computer models of proteins. Before I came across this book, I was struggling and failing to understand Isomorphous Replacement, MAD, Solvent Flattening, Maps and Models, as well as the iterative refining of models. I think no other book comes even close to this book in explaining all these concepts in simple format. This, I think is as clear as it can get without becoming oversimplified. A must have for all researchers and students whose work is even remotely connected to crystallography.
"The" clearest one out there...........2003-06-04
When it comes to this field of research, you get two types of references: (1) the 2-5 page quick intro that leaves you with the most basic overview of crystallography and (2) the 'hard core' books that go into such detail as to leave you breathless. This book is, in my opinion, the best transition book.
For non-crystallographers, this book will teach enough about crystallography to allow you to read crystal structure articles and understand what is meant by all of the used statistics and such.
For apprentice crystallographers, this is a wonderful intro into the field. Master the book, then move on to harder books to master it.
Highly recommended. I still go back to it, when I teach people, to help me explain in the way that Gale Rhodes does!

Customer Reviews:
Good content poor binding.......2007-09-27
FYI: Book content is good, however the crafting/binding is poor. Without much use several pages are falling off.
Great introduction to body ct.......2007-09-20
This book cover all the basic stuff needed in body ct. It should be used as a introduction to the subject.
Highly recommended.
Good book but poor quality.......2007-01-10
I am a first-year Radiology resident that was looking for an introductory book that was easy to finish on my first Body CT rotation. The Fundamentals book was a good text with all the necessary info to build upon. The only negative thing I have to say is that the quality of the binding was terrible. After about a week the binding fell apart so that now the final 150+ pages are no longer bound to the book. I'm pretty finiky about books and take care of them, so it's pretty disappointing. Otherwise, its a good first text.
good book if you don't own Fundamentals of Diagnostic Radiology.......2005-12-13
This is a great book with excellent information on body CT imaging.
The reason I give it three stars instead of five is that it's basically an excerpt from the main text of Fundamentals of Diagnostic Radiology.
If you already own that book, don't buy this one.
Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
Body CT summarized.......2001-09-15
An ideal text for easy use which highlights the basic anatomy needed for interpreting CTs and the salient points needed to make diagnosis.

The Bible of X-ray Diffraction.......2000-09-20
Klug & Alexanders book on X-ray diffraction has since it's release, of the first edition in 1954, been and still is the ultimate book on X-ray diffraction procedures. It covers any subject of interest to X-Ray Diffraction form "Elementary Crystallography" and "Properties and Production of X-rays" through "Precision and Errors" to "Operations of X-ray machinery" and many more. Even today, over 25 years after the release of the lasest edition, "X-ray Diffraction Procedures" is because of it's thoroughness, attention to detail, number and depth of subjects dealt with still a must for anybody working with X-Ray Diffraction. The depth, width and fundamental nature of the subject dealt with, and the book as a whole, more than makes the fact the it isn't up to date with the latest technical innovations. There can be no douth that "X-Ray Diffraction Procedures" is the Bible of X-ray diffraction.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent beginning book.......2007-10-17
This book does a great job of explaining the basics. It is easy to read and interactive. A must for anyone beginning a chest x-ray class.
The best resource I've found to learn how to read chest films.......2007-05-07
As a third year medical student I've read many radiology books trying to learn how to quickly and accurately read chest films. This is the best resource I've found so far! I've read this book cover to cover three times (read the 2nd edition once, this new 3rd edition twice) and I've been able to quickly read PA and lateral chest films accurately as competently as any intern or resident. Although the book also teaches how to read a chest CT, its strength lies in teaching how to identify and localize chest pathology in either portable chest films, or PA and lateral films.
This new edition is somewhat shorter than the previous one because there's one chapter ("segmental anatomy") that has been put on the CD. In addition to that chapter, the CD also has additional chapters, exercises and films to read that do not appear in previous editions.
If you're looking for a fun, quick way to learn how to correctly identify common lung pathology on a chest film, this book is the best way to start. It will not make you an expert radiologist, but as a 3rd year med student the knowledge I've gained from this book is simply invaluable.
Don't be misled.......2004-12-10
I bought this off amazon thinking it was Felson's text in new edition. But it was very basic and has these annoying spaces for you to fill in the missing ______________. The missing word is in the margin.
I returned it.
It doesn't have very many images of pathology. I cannot recommend it, even for medical students. If you are a student, I would recommend you approach your radiology department for a tutorial before wasting money on this thing.
The best way to learn to read chest films.......2004-02-14
This is an excellent publication for anyone to learn to read chest radiographs. It provides a thorough method that you can use on each and every film so as not to miss anything. And it's much more clear than any of the lectures that I've ever attended, because the methodology is so sound and complete. This book elucidated many principles that were not covered in my courses, from anatomy on the radiograph that all professors seemed to assume that we know, to more specific signs that no one ever told me to look for.
It is "a programmed text" meaning that it is written with fill in the blank sentences with the answer on the sideline, usually such that you can figure out the answer yourself. This not only makes it fun, it also makes it intellectually engaging such that you are forced to think and remember the ideas applied.
I highly recommend this book for early in your medical career. Get it early and refer to it often!
Makes Reading chest x-rays fun.......2001-09-18
This book is very similar to Dubins(EKG's). It makes the reader an active participant in the reading. The book is do-able. It has lots of examples and I was able to get through it in a less than a week. I am much more comfortable reading chest x-rays after reading this book. I only wish there were more books like this in radiology.
