Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Featuring brand new art from and designed by Jamie Hewlett, this is the full story of Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel Hobbs for the first time. Included will be their emailing with their motley crew of collaborators, from Ike Turner to Sean Ryder, and accounts of the gigs, the movie (for the first time), the videos and the website - including the low down on Kong Studios, their legendary HQ. Customer Reviews:
If you're a Gorillaz fan, you NEED this book in your collection!.......2007-10-10
Not only are the illustrations in this book wonderfully fabulous, but the story is hillarious and laid out in a way that creats a complete background for each member suiting each of their personalities. If you didn't know the story behind the Gorillaz, you'd assume the characters were real people, with real history!
I highly recomend this book to everyone!
Hooray!
My son loved it!!.......2007-08-06
My son has wanted this book for months. he earned enough money himself and wanted me to drive him 30 miles to borders. ilooked on amazon and found it $5 cheaper with free overnite shipping. Perfect!
excellent deal.......2007-06-13
The delivery of this porduct arrive around a month from the day the purchase was made. The product arrived in excellent conditions and this product was better than I expected.
Mistake.......2007-05-27
I unfortunately expected comic book from Jamie Hewlett rather than this huge story, so I was dissapointed. The book is nicely made and the story is very belivable since the characters are described very good - it looks like they really exist. But if you expect Jamie's early work like Tank Girl or Get the Freebies from Face magazine, this is not to be your choice.
Nothing and everything all at once.......2007-04-11
Probably the most concise visual history of the published work Jamie has done for this project as of yet and a great work of humorous fiction in it's own right. Continues the tradition of creating a surrealistic reality for the band where existing people coexist and interact with Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel. Won't find much in terms of concept art (some early drawings though) or how Jamie and Damon masterminded the project but a definite pick-up for any Gorillaz fan.
Book Description
This comprehensive biography of George Gershwin (1898-1937) unravels the myths surrounding one of America's most celebrated composers and establishes the enduring value of his music. Gershwin created some of the most beloved music of the twentieth century and, along with Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter, helped make the golden age of Broadway golden. Howard Pollack draws from a wealth of sketches, manuscripts, letters, interviews, books, articles, recordings, films, and other materials--including a large cache of Gershwin scores discovered in a Warner Brothers warehouse in 1982--to create an expansive chronicle of Gershwin's meteoric rise to fame. He also traces Gershwin's powerful presence that, even today, extends from Broadway, jazz clubs, and film scores to symphony halls and opera houses.
Pollack's lively narrative describes Gershwin's family, childhood, and education; his early career as a pianist; his friendships and romantic life; his relation to various musical trends; his writings on music; his working methods; and his tragic death at the age of 38. Unlike Kern, Berlin, and Porter, who mostly worked within the confines of Broadway and Hollywood, Gershwin actively sought to cross the boundaries between high and low, and wrote works that crossed over into a realm where art music, jazz, and Broadway met and merged. The author surveys Gershwin's entire oeuvre, from his first surviving compositions to the melodies that his brother and principal collaborator, Ira Gershwin, lyricized after his death. Pollack concludes with an exploration of the performances and critical reception of Gershwin's music over the years, from his time to ours.
Customer Reviews:
Genius writes about genius.......2007-05-11
We usually apply the term genius to the subject of a biography. With the writing of Howard Pollack, one can also apply that term to the biographer.
When I first heard that Pollack was at work on a biography of Gershwin, I was saddened to think that he would be devoting his time to someone who had been the subject of so many biographies. I thought, what else was there to be said about Gershwin, but when I recalled the balanced and thoroughly considered approach he brought to his biography of Copland, I was curious to read what he would write. Not only was I not disappointed, I was overwhelmed.
Pollack does not question the actions of his subjects, he reports and tells a story, leaving the reader to make his or her own judgements. There is no attempt to sensationalize anything as he lets the facts speak for themselves. Pollack treats his subjects with the greatest respect without losing sight of their humanity. He brings great dignity to his writing and to his subjects.
His use of the language is transparent. You are never slowed down by his words. When he writes about music, Pollack has a remarkable ability to engage both the musician and non-musician alike. As with his volume on Copland, you sense he knows the music so well that he can intuit what the composer intended with each new work. He seeks out so much of the related material one would think he has devoted his entire life to the study of his subjects. You are aware of the detail, but not overwhelmed or encumbered by it.
I found the quotes from Michael Feinstein to be very informative. Feinstein, is not only the great exponent of popular music of the tradition of Gershwin, Kern, Berlin, et al; he is also one of the most informed in the music of that period. The time Feinstein spent as Ira Gershwin's assistant lends credibility to his perspective and recollections, and adds great insight to both the humanity and the music of Gershwin.
This volume is as close to an encapsulation of Gershwin's life and works as one could hope to find in words.
THE Gershwin study.......2006-12-06
Gershwin buffs, run, don't walk to get this book. Pollack has written the definitive study of both "The Life" and "The Work," as per his two fat sections.
Pollack's book is, for one, the first Gershwin bio that takes advantage of the discovery of mountains of original orchestra parts for Golden Age musical theatre scores in a Secaucus warehouse in the early eighties. As such, Pollack analyzes Gershwin's theatre scores closely just as classical music scholars can attend to Mozart or Haydn's works.
Earlier bios could only address the scores largely on the basis of the songs from each score that happened to be published as sheet music, with only a handful of the scores then existing as full piano-vocal scores or as latter-day abridged and heavily adapted recordings. But over the past two decades, most of Gershwin's significant scores have been recorded in full from the discovered materials, such that via these recordings as well as examining the original materials himself, Pollack can address the work as it was presented when it was new, i.e. chorus numbers, character songs not published as sheets, incidental music, etc. Given that musicals constituted the bulk of Gershwin's output in his short life, this alone makes Pollack's book invaluable.
In addition, some Gershwin bios have been written by people focused on pulling him down, devoted to revealing him as an undereducated, boorish parvenu (i.e. the ones by Charles Schwartz and Joan Peyser). Pollack's sleuthing and interviews conclusively demonstrate that these evaluations were incorrect: Gershwin pursued serious musical training throughout his life, it shows in his work, and socially, he was a beloved, charming person who was deeply mourned at his death.
Pollack has truly done his homework, such that just about any question one might have about Gershwin is exhaustively answered. For each show he chronicles not only the score and its critical reception in New York, but also its London and even Australian versions if there were any, all of the revivals across the US, and its recordings -- and he does this even starting with the obscure early efforts. He is equally thorough re Gershwin's concert music.
It should be said that those seeking further engagement with the raison d'etre of Joan Peyser's THE MEMORY OF ALL THAT, the story that Gershwin fathered a love child with a chorus girl and paid him and his mother off to keep it quiet, will not be satisfied. Pollack briefly addresses objections to that thesis from some quarters since Peyser's book was published -- but, in my view, neglects the rather damning facts that 1) said love child looks exactly like Gershwin and 2)was supported in his claim to have made regular visits to Gershwin's apartment by none other than Gershwin's valet. As such, one must consult various sources pre- and post-Peyser to come to conclusions about that issue. One suspects that Pollack, having been granted interviews from surviving keepers of the Gershwin flame, opted on that particular subject to step around giving offense. He is not to be faulted for this.
It should also be said, however, that inevitably of a work so dazzlingly complete, this book is not one most people would want to read from front to back. It is, in its way, a reference book set in prose. There are times when Pollack seems almost obsessive -- such as bringing vast study to bear upon locating the purchase by Gershwin's parents of a piano in precisely late 1910, or letting us know (based on a chance message from abroad) that OH, KAY played in translation in Sweden, or informing us via close examination of the original arrangement of RHAPSODY IN BLUE -- not later arrangements, but the original one, mind you -- that one player doubled on bass and tuba.
But this degree of obsession is what real scholarship is, and though for most it will be a book to jump around in than to read page for page, Pollack has given us an authoritative masterpiece. I am in awe of the man, and happy to have this one on my shelves forever.
Book Description
Eleven years ago, amidst scandal, sin, and shattered lives, Michael English fell from the pinnacle of the Christian music world. In 1994, newspapers around the world blared the headline, "Gospel Singer Named Artist of the Year Turns in His Awards After Confirming He Had an Affair with a Fellow Married Singer." From 1994 to 2002 Michael English's life went from bad to worse. Public shame, divorce, broken relationships, drug addiction, even homelessness. But in 2002, God reached out and rescued Michael from himself. Today Michael is whole again. For the first time, he tells his story of redemption.
Customer Reviews:
Totally unexpected!.......2007-09-08
I was surprised and disappointed when I heard the news about Michael English's indescretion and how it affected his own life, family, career and those of several others. For years I wondered what was happening to him and where he was spiritually. I saw this book and ordered it for my husband. We sort of read it together. It was brutally honest and very discriptive. I appreciated that aspect so much because it gave the reader a glimpse into how dangerous and far-reaching sinful decisions can be. He went about as low as a person can go...from the top of a career to the slimey bottom. Thankfully there is a wonderful ending which clearly shows the never-ending love of Christ and that He never gives up on us. I'm thankful he decided to write his story.
Great story of forgiveness........2007-09-05
This was a well written account of the rise and fall of one of Christian Music's finest. It gave details into how easily it is to fall. I know there are those that wanted more out of this book. They wanted him to write more about what God did in his life. When you fall, God isn't top priority in your life. Michael does however go into detail as to how he straightened his life out and put God first in his life once again.
The best part is seeing Michael fight through all the obstacles in life and become a new man. It will be a life long struggle, but one I know Michael will be able to conquer with the help of God. I want to thank Michael for putting this book out. I'm sure it will help those that have taken the wrong path. It is a book of hope, forgiveness and mercy, but most importantly, a book that shows a chance to forgive yourself when you think what you've done in life is unforgiveable. It's only then, you can honestly ask God for forgiveness.
A painfully honest story of human weakness and Gods forgiveness.......2007-08-23
I read this book in almost a night. It was an honest account of how Christian music "stars" can fall into the same temptations as secular "stars" do. It was well written and painfully honest. This is a sad yet wonderful account of God's love , patience and forgiveness.
Great book.......2007-08-02
I think Michael English is a very talented writer and person. I loved seeing his sense of humor come out through the book. It is so evident ("can I get an Amen here?") I think Michael English has more guts than anyone I know! He talked extensively about his past childhood and was very honest about the life of a Christian artist. At one point, he said that many leaders in the church don't question the spirituality (and even if they are Christians) if an artist is on stage singing about the Lord. The fact that he brings this up is so unbelievable in that it is way too often that we idolize the one on stage while we forget they are human. This book definitely needed to be written! I only wish that I had information like this 20 yrs ago when I idolized Christian artists more and thought they were oh, so perfect. It doesn't make me think less of them but it brings to reality that whether it is an artist, a preacher, or missionary, we are all human. What happened to Michael could have happened to anyone of us. While he admits that he may not have been very close to God when all this happened, he did pray for help and I have to think he may be not giving himself enough credit. Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy and GOD allowed Michael to go through this because HE knew the ending. God knew that Michael would allow his story to be written and to help others.
What was really awesome was that he spent considerable time with his upbringing. It really gave light to so much on how he thought and his decisions. There was a real shocker in there for a mom like me who has children.
The only thing I had an issue with and really, it is just a small part and really wish I could have scored this book a 4.7 was the divorce thing. Michael cannot praise his former wife enough and he admits his wrongdoing over and over and is obviously very sorry. However, it didn't work out too bad for him. He winds up marrying a woman who is said to be beautiful and 17 yrs younger than him. What middle aged man wouldn't want that? I know he didn't want that message to come across but I would have liked to see how hard the divorce was. If what happened to him happened to a regular person, I cannot say that it would have worked out so good. God definitely showed Michael English lots of favor and grace in the long run and for that I am grateful. It does give hope. Michael is a good man and I would recommend his book and go to his concerts. I give him credit in being gutsy and bring to light how we idolize the Christian artists. Michael should be commended for this book!
We're all sinners.......2007-07-15
This quick read goes right to the heart of Michael English, someone I had never heard of, since I don't follow Christian music. But it made addiction come alive as a daily struggle. Lynn Vincent did a good job capturing his confusion and pain, he still has a way to go, it appears, and I'd like to see a follow-up in a few years.

Customer Reviews:
Applauds for Sinatra and Hamill.......2007-09-15
Another masterpiece by Hamill. This work reveals the humanity of Sinatra. It is short, but oh soooooo good! If you are interested in Sinatra, read this book. It is sophisicated and loaded with the nuances of the man who did it his way, faults, bruises, and all.
Sinatra to the point.......2006-10-02
This is a small book. Short and sweet. Mr. Hamill gets right to the point . There isnt a lot of fluff in this book. A few pictures and so anecdotes to start some of the chapters. It written well and the layout is succint. This is a must read for any Sinatra fan.
Consider The Source.......2006-06-18
Ironic that Pete Hamill should write this book. To my ears and eyes, Pete Hamill has never written a sincere or honest word in his life.
The irony is that when Sinatra was asked how he wanted to be remembered, he said he would want people to think of him as an honest singer.
The book is good, but read it with a grain of salt due to the author.
The man and his music.......2006-04-19
I like this book because it isn't like all the other Sinatra biographies out there. In fact, it isn't really appropriate to call "Why Sinatra Matters" a biography at all. Author Pete Hamill was an acquaintance of Sinatra's and much of the book is built around conversations that the two men had together, which is very interesting. This book gives a general overview of Sinatra's upbringing and rise to stardom. Hamill explains how Sinatra's childhood and Italian American background contributed to the development of his music. Sinatra's "fall from grace" is also examined, but Hamill is quick to point out that the only thing that really matters is that Sinatra was able to overcome his obstacles and make an incredible comeback. There has never been another singer like Frank Sinatra and there never will be again. Sinatra continues to represent so many things to so many people, which is why his music will live on forever.
Some Outstanding Ideas, But Just a Touch too Much Gossip! .......2005-05-24
Many of the basic, well known aspects of FS's life are mentioned here, starting with the Genoan and Sicilian branches of his family history, his quiet father and brash, Democratic Ward Leader mother. The segment on Bing Crosby's huge influence on 1930's popular culture, especially in the new radio-centered family (like TV today) is great, and perhaps not known too much today. FS as an icon for immigrant Italians, along with LaGuardia and DiMaggio, is also a high point. The days with James and Dorsey are also well done, if rehashes, like much of this otherwise excellent book. And much is written about FS's legendary "Fall" and 2nd Rise, the Fall being among the most overdone of FS's incredible life.(Many would love to fall from such Olympian heights!). Mr. Hamill says that the music is what matters. Obviously, he's right! Only Frank could sing so well about the depths of anguish and despair, as well as the thrill of triumph! The author also gives a nice summation of the great work of FS with Nelson Riddle. Unfortunately, short shrift is given to Billy May, and a short paragraph mocks the "sugary" work of Gordon Jenkins. Oddly, the most famous pairing of Jenkins and FS, "September of My Years" is listed in the appendix as among Mr. Hamill's favorite albums! It would have been nice if a CD was included, since this book does not really mine the golden depths of FS's best recordings. Still, all in all, a fine and succinct presentation of The Man and His Music.
Book Description
Published to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death, Marley Legend celebrates the life and work of Bob Marley in an authorized and fully illustrated biography. In the same interactive format as the best-selling Lennon Legend, this innovative book features rare photographs and 20 removable facsimiles, including Marley's handwritten lyrics and concert memorabilia, even a private sketchbook. The package also includes a 50-minute spoken word CD featuring archival Marley interviews. Rock journalist James Henke relates the dramatic story of Marley's life, from his impoverished childhood in Jamaica's Trenchtown to his spiritual awakening through Rastafarianism, his multinational musical success, and his death from cancer at age 36. In addition to interviews with Marley's family and associates conducted especially for this book, Henke includes thoughts on favorite Marley songs from such diverse artists as U2's Bono, Sean Paul, Ben Harper, and Chrissie Hynde. Marley's message was one of love, peace, and equality -- and in words and pictures, Marley Legend shows why Bob Marley is, as Entertainment Weekly recently called him, "still the world's biggest rock star."
Customer Reviews:
A Must for the true Marley Fan.......2006-12-30
When this was opened at X-mas, brought the recipient to tears. All the goodies packed into the book are amazing & worth every penny!
A NICE CELEBRATORY OVERVIEW..........2006-06-04
This is a nicely packaged (and slipcased) celebration of a reggae icon with beautiful pictures and interesting tidbits...the gatefolds and pockets with little surprises might become tiresome after a few browsings but Bob Marley is one those performers whose legend only grows with time and he is entirely deserving of this elaborate book. It's not too deep but then there are plenty of good books to choose from...in the end, it's all about the music.
Book Description
Longtime fans and new listeners can experience the impact of Keith’s character, courage, and commitment in this revised and expanded testimony of his extraordinary life.
Who better to tell Keith Green’s story than the woman who shared his life and mission—his wife, Melody. At the time Keith and two of their children were killed in a tragic plane crash, Melody was pregnant and had a one–year–old child at home. She inherited Keith’s musical legacy of published and unpublished songs and his private journals, which she has put together in this extremely personal biography of Keith.

Inspiring!.......2007-10-05
I listened to his music in the early 1980's never realizing what his life was like. Although his life on earth was brief, his intensity and passion along with his unwavering determination to discover the purpose for his life and, when he found it in Jesus, to be authentic and determined in his faith, is an encouragement to anyone journeying on the narrow path that Christ calls us to. His life clearly displays how much God loves and seeks us out even when we are not living according to His will. A definite must read!
Like his life, it ended too soon........2007-09-13
I grew up listening to the Music of Keith Green. My parents were big fans, and to them, Keith was more then just a singer.
I slowly stopped listening to his music when I got older, and thought that the new music I listened to had a better sound and a more meaningful message, simply because it was newer music. But then I started listening to Keith Green again, and saw that his music is timeless, and can still change lives.
I picked up this book, and started reading it right away. The tone read very much like a novel, with pictures every now and then to show you how Keith and those around him had changed over time. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about there being pictures so much, but then I saw the effect they had on me.
I got to know Keith as if he were a friend of mine. I got to see his struggles, his fears, his likes, his dislikes; I got to shake hands with Keith. His story of how he came to know Jesus is one that can touch anyone.
Ultimately, when the book started to end, I knew how he was going to die. I knew it was coming. I even looked ahead to see what chapter it happens in. Even though I knew it was coming, I still started to cry.
I spent my time reading this book, and getting to know Keith, his children, and his friends, that I he died all over again. I missed him again.
Still, with that said, I think my favorite part in the book is the story of how they had a cow die, and they couldn't get a butcher out to the farm (because the butcher has to kill the animal he'll be butchering), so they did it themselves.
With all that said, this is an amazing story that every Christian should read. Even if you weren't a fan of his music, it is still an amazing story.
The Best!.......2007-08-23
Melody green did an amazing job at letting us in on her life with Keith Green. She is very open and honest and makes it easy to follow. It is very easy to relate to for practically anyone. Some parts brought tears to my eyes and it brings you to self reflect where you are at spiritually. I highly recommend this book!
Sold out for God.......2007-06-08
Keith Green's book "No Compromise" was an in depth look at this Christian mans life. He lived his life solely for God, and never looked back. He was constantly examining himself to see if he measured up to how a Christian life should be led. He was an inspiration to me of how to live for Jesus!
No Compromise.......2007-01-17
This book is a great book describing a man who lived a life loving the Lord and encountering some of the issues we individually face. This just goes to show that we all can stand out and trust the Lord. Keith was a man who chose to live a life with No Compromise with his relationship with the Lord.

Make sure you're looking to sing..........2007-07-25
I don't want to be overly critical of this book since it's probably going to work for a lot of people, but it definitely wasn't what I was looking for nor was it what I was expecting. I want to develop my ear and advance my guitar and piano playing through playing those instruments, not through having to sing. I don't have a good voice and I have no desire to sing or become a singer, but this book starts you out singing everything from the very first chapter through the end of the course. This is a definite turn off for me since that's not what I'm comfortable doing...and trust me, I'm sure my family doesn't want to hear me either! I won't sing "Happy Birthday" at parties even when I'm amongst 15 other people that will drown me out but, lo and behold, the first chapter has me singing just that in order to identify the tonic of the song.
I'm giving this book 3 stars only because I felt the description of it was a bit misleading. It is completely reliant on singing, but that didn't really come across in the description of the book. If singing is something that works for you within the scope of learning an instrument and training your ear, then I'm sure the book will be fine, as the other reviewers have pointed out. But if you're not looking to train your ear through singing, you may want to be careful with this particular book before you buy it.
great eartraining book.......2006-03-24
great book I have taken eartraining courses in college they move too fast and do not offer enough explinations. this book lets you take your time and give plenty information
This is a Complete Guide.......2006-03-10
Keith Wyatt does a great job of explaining and demonstrating the fundamentals for ear training. He makes no claim to a quick and easy way to accomplish your goals with this. He does give a concise method on how to get the most out of what abilities you do have --whether you have tremondous talent or no natural ability -- I belive you can train your ear with a commitment to his study and practice methods. I am not far along with this and I do not sing but I can now hit notes with my voice and recognize them. Something I could not do before I got this study and I am applying it to my guitar and piano playing. I recommend the book to anyone that is willing to adhere to a schedule and not to someone looking for magic dust.
If you don't have a professional coach then try this.......2005-06-12
If you've ever wanted to teach yourself to recognize particular notes and patterns this book is an excellent resource. The authors examine things like the major and minor scales, fifths, sevenths, melodies, sightsinging, triads, and diatonic progressions. They also do an excellent job of describing what is happening, the theory behind it and how to use it to help train your ears to recognize the notes, progressions, etc. The book includes exercises, answer sheets, and two CDs with examples of the various notes and tones from the book so you can practice. If you are serious about ear training you can't go wrong with Ear Training For the Contemporary Musician.

Book Description
For the longest time, during some rough boyhood years in Alabama and the grind of performing on the road, the odds against me were discouraging. But there was always a voice inside telling me it was going to get better.
Mom and Dad certainly started out with good intentions, but early on, as their marriage went south and I went in whatever direction was necessary to avoid the fallout, I realized my life was going to be up to me.
Thinking back, my first step toward singing for a living was stealing an Otis Redding album when I was nine. What I heard on that platter was life-changing, and pretty soon I was learning to play the harmonica, which, I can assure you, didn’t attract many female fans—in fact, any fans at all.
I eventually decided that not being taken seriously can be a good thing. It stokes the fires. Maybe the reason I like soul music so much is that it inspires with its pain. The best artists, like Ray Charles, reach out and say, “You’re not alone, brother.”
In all my years on the road—trying to make it in Nashville and those Southern honky-tonks known as the “Chitlin Circuit”—I never thought it would take an act of God to push my destiny into the right groove. But as you’ll hear, it was nearly getting washed away by Hurricane Katrina that led to my Idol tryout. And what happened next was a little bit like when Alice dropped down that rabbit hole—just substitute Simon Cowell for the Mad Hatter.
In Heart Full of Soul, I share some life stories that will hopefully inspire you—give you a sense of my philosophy and how it drove me. For example, I talk about my good friend who died in a tragic accident and the prediction he made that tugged at my thoughts throughout Idol’s qualifying rounds. I also discuss what it was like when I realized Eminem has it right: when you only have one shot, you’d better lose yourself in the music.
A lot of great fans lined up behind me the night of the Idol finale. This book is about the strange path that led me to that pop-culture moment, and the sharp directional changes that occurred after that phenomenal night, including touring America, producing an album, and experiencing that two-sided gig known as American celebrity.
I hope that some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way will help you, especially if the shot you’ve been yearning for is just around the corner.

Full of integrity and guts.......2007-09-26
Taylor Hicks book was so heartwarming to me. He has true moxie because he made it on his own without much support in his childhood. I loved him on American Idol and I am happy to know him better through his book.
Wonderful bio of Taylor .......2007-09-23
This book was well written with many humorus lines, giving a real insight to who Taylor Hicks really is and what he has endured to follow his dream. We, who are avid fans, are glad that he never gave up. He is truly unique and inspiring, both musically and personally. Oh, and lest I forget, he is most definitely easy on the eyes and seeing him live in person is an unforgetable experience.
Taylor Hicks- My American Idol........2007-09-07
I was real excited to read this book as it had been a year since I had read any book due to loss of vision. Now that I have my "Reader" I chose this book. It was an easy read and moved right along. I really enjoyed hearing about his life and all the things that went on during his ride to be the American Idol. There was some good photos in it also.
Heart Full of Soul and Taylor has it!!.......2007-09-03
I loved Taylor's book in both the hardback and audio versions. Hearing Taylor's voice telling his own story is amazing. Taylor's life journey to this point is incredible. He has certainly "paid his dues" and is very deserving of all of the good things that are coming his way since he was discovered! Anyone reading this book would be inspired to never give up because you never know what the future holds. I for one have been uplifted by his message.
Like the rest of Taylor's career: soon to be in a bargain bin.......2007-09-01
It's obvious that the majority of reviews written for this skimpy and hollow book are written by Taylor's fans. That's fine. People who are really into their AI faves usually have no sense of blind fanboyism and will highly rate anything that their idol puts out. The fact of the matter, however, is that Hicks' career has been a flop, both in terms of comparing it to other AI contestants (save for Justin Guarini's and Corey Clark's) and on its very own. The guy couldn't eke out a career before Idol, and now in the aftermath of winning it, it looks like he's still not making any headway.
This book attempts to wring out any last popularity the guy may have. The problem is, only the fans are going to buy it and declare it as wonderful, while everyone else will simply pass it by, knowing full well that the story inside will well be forgotten a few months from now. Hicks may well have been AI's biggest anomaly as far as its grand prize winners went, but it looks like it was all for naught. So don't be surprised when you start seeing this book being dumped by the truckloads into bargain book warehouse stores and the like. While Hicks may have had honest and noble intentions behind his AI career, the fact is the young and ever-fickle audience the show is geared towards just aren't interested in the long haul.
Book Description
*The most celebrated "voice" in Hollywood speaks for herself!
* Beloved show-biz icon Nixon dubbed songs for Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn--now she tells her story for the first time
* Entertaining behind-the-scenes celebrity stories from six decades of performing
Everyone knows Marni Nixon...even if they think they don't. One of the best-known and best-loved singing voices in the world, Nixon dubbed songs for Natalie Wood in West Side Story, Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, and Deborah Kerr in The King and I. She was the voice of Hollywood's leading ladies, arriving in filmland after a debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at 17 and continuing her career with Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Stephen Sondheim, Rogers and Hammerstein, and many others. Her inspiring autobiography reveals Nixon as a singer, an actress, and a woman fighting for artistic recognition. Today, a survivor of breast cancer, she works on Broadway and television's Law & Order SVU, tours with her own stage show, and teaches master classes in voice. Marni Nixon: The Voice of Hollywood reveals the woman behind the screen is revealed, in a frank, funny biography that is as remarkable as the woman whose story it tells.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of info.......2007-10-03
I had long known about Ms. Nixon's film work, dubbing for Deborah Kerr, Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn, but this memoir filled in a lot of gaps. I really enjoyed it.
Fun for film buffs.......2007-01-13
If you have ever wondered who sang Kerr's songs in KING & I or Wood's in WEST SIDE STORY, then this is the book for you. Marnie Nixon was the dubbed voice of many non-singing stars'in some of their best roles. Here she tells her story and while at times it drags a bit, I found it very interesting and entertaining. The chapters about her work in film are espcially engaging.
marni Nixon bio.......2006-11-10
Enjoyed this book so much.It was fun to read about all the colleagues she had worked with during her career. A very pleasant read.
Hollywood's most famous vocal "Ghost" appears in the shimmering flesh!.......2006-10-19
Marni Nixon's was one of those famous people who fascinated me from the moment I heard her story of being the vocal "ghost" in three of Hollywood's most remarkable musicals. Her's is a story I was waiting to hear, and with this great book, it was worth the wait.
For anyone interested in musicals, Hollywood or performing, Ms. Nixon's wonderful book will be a boon. From her personal stories about Hollywood to her journey from singer to remarkable actress, the book is a wonderful read.
Her story would make one of the most fascinating movie musicals ever. Part "Singing in the Rain" and part Hollywood Grimm's fairy tale, I want to see this story made into a movie musical. Anyone out there listening?
Bravo to Ms. Nixon! Thank you for sharing your amazing story. I was completely enthralled as well as inspired.
My Fair and Wonderful Lady.......2006-10-12
"I Could Have Sung All Night" by Marni Nixon is a wonderful, enjoyable autobiography of her life. Marni Nixon has dubbed singers Audrey Hepburn (My Fair Lady), Deborah Kerr (The King and I), and to my surprise Natalie Wood (West Side Story). Growing up with these movie musicals I knew about Marni Nixon's dubbing in "My Fair Lady", but when reading the chapter on "West Side Story" regarding the dubbing for Natalie Wood, I was surprised. When watching West Side Story, I really thought it was Natalie Wood doing her own singing!
Marni Nixon tells wonderful stories about her travels in Israel with Liberace, her stint with Victor Borge, and many other anecdotes.
The book is a fun and entertaining read, and I could not put it down. Thank you Marni Nixon!
