Book Description
With the divorce rate spiking at a dizzying 60 percent, it’s safe to assume that young couples and experienced partners alike may lack the skills and understanding necessary to sustain a committed relationship. Psychotherapists Linda and Charlie Bloom present 101 techniques delivering practical guidance and make it clear that, regardless of past experience, anyone can develop the basic strengths, skills, and capacities needed for a great relationship. Each lesson is presented as a simple, one-line thought followed by an explanation using real life examples — from the authors' own experiences in sustaining their marriage of 31 years to those of the thousands of couples they've professionally counseled or who have taken the Blooms' life relationship seminars. This book demonstrates how anyone can find ways out of a painful relationship, and how couples can enrich their own relationships through working through love's challenges.

A Must Read Book Before Getting Married.......2007-09-30
Don't let the title fool you. This book is great for anyone who is in a relationship.
really renews my belief in love.......2007-02-05
this book is amazing. i stumbled upon it in the bookstore and it was the last copy on display. i picked it up and thumbed through it and i was hooked. i'd never heard of the authors and this book. unfortunately i think we give a lot of credit to authors who get on major television shows and some authors that have good stuff to say don't ever get the credit they deserve....
back to the book...it's a great book the chapters are short and sweet (but not too short) and as other reviewers have mentioned the couple has lots of experience as therapists and a real married couple. i plan to suggest to my boyfriend that we read a couple of chapters an evening and discuss them. i really like the concepts in the book and think if you're in a serious relationship leading to marriage you owe it to yourself to get this. i suspect if you're already married you can still benefit too!
very good book.......2006-11-18
this is a must have book, whether or not you're married or even after! My husband and i highlighted sections that meant something to us and discussed them. really helped us over a hump! Highly recommend and it's an easy read.
A must have for those just married or about to get married!.......2006-03-13
Background:
I am getting married in about 10 weeks. My fiancé and I have recently had to deal with several issues that have surfaced. We are both very open, well educated and understanding, but all of a sudden we had trouble communicating well regarding several topics. We both come from parents who are remarried, and the overall divorce rate is very high in our family which scares us both. Furthermore, my mother's second marriage is one of those wonderful relationships that are written about in children's fairytales, and lately I have felt pressured that my relationship must to compare to hers.
Review:
If you are married, thinking about getting married, or recently married, you owe it to yourself read this book! If you aren't hooked on the book by the end of the table of contents I would be shocked!
I found this book at a local bookstore while browsing through the relationship section and it is GREAT! The book is basically a compilation of mostly lighthearted tips and pointers drawn from real life experience which would take a newly married couple many years to figure out. The book tackles many subjects, which after reading seem so simple and straight forward that I would have felt silly had I not understood them; however the truth is, I had never thought about these subjects, let alone how to deal with them.
After about three hours I am half way through the book and really feel like I am learning lessons that take others years of marriage to learn. The book has also helped my confide in, and understand the many benefits of a long enduring relationship that I had not thought about. Many of the books' subjects also revolve around the controversies and hurtles that a long term relationship will eventually face. The wonderful wisdom that Charlie and Linda Bloom present, is not how to try and avoid these rather unavoidable circumstances, but instead how to use these difficult times to help your marriage grow and become stronger than it would be had these situations not occurred. This is a great feeling, especially for men whose married and single friends often say very derogatory things regarding relationships in general.
Worth reading.......2006-02-02
For newlyweds or those married for a number of years, this book has many gems of wisdom to offer. My husband and I have been married for 28 years and read the book together and found it refreshing and helpful in some areas where we recognized chronic tension in our relationship. The authors' overall assessments of a variety of relationships and wisdom for handling various issues that arise between committed couples is on target. It is worth reading and would make a good gift for weddings (or anniversaries!)

This is a fantastic book, it touches on every area of the Christian walk. It will encourage you, challenge you and hopefully, change you. Many books written by bands wind up being a bit of a promotional tool, this book, however, gives credit where credit is due- God! This is a great read for any young Christian, whether you are a Newsboys fan or not.

Book Description
You can retire but your money cant.
The rules of retirement living have changed dramatically: you can now expect to live for twenty plus years in retirement; the financial markets are extremely volatile while at the same time, interest rates have fallen to new lows; and you can no longer rely on government pension programs (CPP/OAS) to see you through your "golden years."
If youre not working, your money had better be! Make the Most of What Youve Got provides easy-to-understand information on what to do with your nest-egg after your retirement, how to invest it, how to see that it carries you through retirement and, equally important, how to make sure that taxes are kept at a minimum. This essential guide includes checklists and forms to help you create a plan and the strategies needed to execute that plan. In addition, it features numerous practical examples, anecdotes, tips and frequently asked questions with answers.

Book Description
In You’ve Got to Have Balls to Make It in This League Pam Postema reveals with frank language and uncompromising candor what it was like being an umpire in professional baseball. For thirteen seasons, from 1977 until her unconditional release in 1989, Postema umpired more than two thousand baseball games, making national news as she worked in various minor leagues as high as level AAA—one step below the majors. She also called many major league spring training games as well as the Hall of Fame game in 1988 between the Yankees and the Braves.
Postema’s story is one of grit and determination to succeed in a profession dominated by men, but it is also an intimate look at umpiring. Postema discusses the mindset behind making a proper call, the weeks of intensive training, ejecting problem players and managers, and the chaos mixed with the monotony of being on the road most of the year. Throughout, Postema relates her encounters with major league stars when they were just up-and-comers in the minors.
Customer Reviews:
Very interesting Woman.......2007-09-10
I can only imagine the difficulties Pam must have faced.I got to admire anyone who wants to break into a gender biased occupation. I personally feel there is room in Umpiring,Refereeing(is that a word?)for women. They can be as blind as the men doing it now(just joking)Irregardles this is a very interesting book and not just on the baseball end of it but also on the struggles of womens equality.
My Life as an Umpire.......2007-04-11
Written by the very first women to ever do this and i admire her for it and I remember her calling games. Great reading for any umpire. No 1 in my book
Good book to read if you're thinking of becoming a pro ump.......2007-03-14
Somewhat of an interesting book, but only if you are a huge baseball fan like myself. I remember reading and hearing about Pam during umpiring years, which is why I got the book from the library when I saw it.
Pam must have enjoyed her years in the minors as she spent 13 years umpiring professionally, or maybe she just couldn't face life and the reality of getting on with her life. It would be a good book for those in HS or college thinking of becoming an umpire in the pro leagues. It sets you straight as the realities of life in the minors.
Pam also tells how she found out how Elvis really died.
Everyone was not all bad.......2005-11-10
My parents had Pam, as well as her then supervisor, Dick Nelson, over to the house for dinner during spring training in Arizona. She seemed like a nice person. However, I think her claiming Dick Nelson was a bad supervisor was unfounded. My dad was in the Air Force with Dick and we have known him for many many years as well as his being a frequent guest in our home during his umpire years. He was always extremely nice and very fair and although he wanted Pam to succeed sometimes people don't make it and it isn't always because of a bias.
THIS BOOK GETS A SOLID HIT.......2004-01-02
MISS POSTEMA WAS AN UMPIRE FOR MANY YEARS IN THE MINOR LEAGUE AREA FOR MANY YEARS. THIS IS HER STORY AND MANY ARE VERY INTERESTING. THE BOOK ITSELF IS VERY EASY TO READ AND IS HUMOROUS, HONEST, WELL TOLD, AND OPINIONATED. PAM WAS A WOMAN TRYING TO CRACK THE SHOW IN A MAN'S WORLD. I GIVE HER ALOT OF CREDIT FOR STAYING WITH IT FOR SO LONG. I RECOMMEND THIS FOR ALL BASEBALL FANS WHO WANT A LOOK AT WHAT IS LIKE TO ATTEND UMPIRE SCHOOL, LIFE ON THE ROAD, GAME CONDITIONS AND ALL THE ABUSE AN UMPIRE ENDURES. A LINE DRIVE BASE HIT.

In this groundbreaking book by
Carol Ritberger, you’ll discover the important role that personality plays in how we define love, what love means to us, and why the expression of love can be so different that it frequently leaves us asking, “How can relationships work at all?”

The best reason for reading this book is that it will help you understand that when it comes to LOVE . . . personality has everything to do with it.

Fun and Informative.......2006-07-10
My fianace and I had a blast reading this book together. It's surprisingly accurate, fun, interesting and a good tool to help get to know someone. I learned some things I didn't already know about my fiance, as did he about myself.
I'd definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys these sort of books and for those who genuinly find interest in reading about themselves and others. This book features good tips on dealing with others that are different from yourself. It's also quite in depth (about 5-7 pages for each "color personality") and can be quite helpful in a relationship.

Hope they reprint this one!

A MUST READ for anyone desiring to get ahead in life!!! .......2007-01-04
This book is a fascinating and very accessible guide to self packaging, covering far more than just manners and appearance. Authored by Camille Lavington, a brilliant, dynamic, witty former corporate executive and socialite, this impressive book shares her saavy and secrets about breaking into and rising in the business and social scene. She's been there, done it, and risen to the heights of the corporate, business and society worlds, and generously shares many of her secrets and lessons. A delightful "must read" for anyone seeking business, social or person success!!!
Rapport building.......2007-01-04
Great book for demonstrating rapport building importance and how it can easily be done.
Don't Waste Your Time.......2006-08-01
Frankly, this book is barely worth the paper it's printed on. It's full of "social climbing" truisms that should be obvious to anyone with a pulse. Very little of the book is actually devoted to first impressions, which is what the title suggests.
The only remotely useful part of the book is a couple pages describing the relationships between economic advancement and social advancement. Don't waste your time.
Looking for simliar book.......2005-12-28
I found this book while trying to find a book I first heard about in the early 80's. I believe the title was something like "Contact: The First Three Seconds". I'm hoping someone will read this and assist me with the actual title and/or Author of the book.
What Impression Do You Make?.......2005-12-22
Anyone looking for a job needs to prepare beyond typing up a resume. Read this book. It helps you to see yourself as others see you. Run through the checklist for grooming, presentation and body language to tune up your "impression makers."
The boss is looking for someone with energy, enthusiasm, job skills, and who fits with the current team. Far too many candidates have no idea of the image they project. Slumped in a chair while mumbling answers is not likely to impress an employer.

Customer Reviews:
Takes It Beyond the Obvious.......2002-09-01
Although the book's title is How to get Publicity, that is really not the best reason to get this book. In fact, there are other books that are stronger on how to obtain publicity, like Michael levine's guerrilla PR: wired.
No, the real reason to get this book is its secondary title--And Make the Most of It (Publicity) Once You've Got It.
Lots of books tell you how to get publicity, but that's where they stop. Fine, you're famous; now what? That's what this book helps you with. That is its strength and what sets it apart from all the rest.
You'll Read It Again and Again.......2002-08-16
As a writer, this book is essential to making a living. This book talks about getting pr on the web, and how to save money throughout all of your pr strategies. I also liked Guerrilla PR Wired, Michael Levine's book. These two are the only reference books a writer will need to successfully market his or her projects.
Insightful!.......2002-07-08
Who? Author William Parkhurst. What? A new edition of his public relations primer. When? Now. Why? Because small business needs an Internet-friendly PR update. How? Pretty good, thank you. Putting those five questions at the heart of your press release is only one of the techniques this book describes for creating an effective publicity campaign. Parkhurst focuses on obtaining low-cost publicity, including how to do your own press releases and Web-page designs. Much of the book deals with well-established strategies, including those described in an earlier edition. This edition's new material covers E-publicity and use of the Internet. We from getAbstract recommend this solid basic text to individual entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses.
The book is a must for every writer.......2001-01-11
How to Get Publicity teaches a writer everything he needs to know about publicity. It is easy to read and packed with great tid bits and gems. Buy this book- you will be happy you did!
A Classic, Now Updated.......2000-10-04
This is one of my favorite books; I've had earlier editions on my shelf for years. As an author and a publisher, I use Parkhurst's advice to promote books.
How to Get Publicity describes writing news releases, media kits, media campaigns, interviews on radio, TV & for print, adverse publicity, the press conference, satellite tours, and much more.
As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I recommend this volume to anyone who has to promote him or herself or their book. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.
