Dog-eared book on my shelf.......2007-01-10
Part of my job is advising others on complex FMLA and ADA situations. I have a solid knowledge of the FMLA and still find myself referring to this book often (as recently as today). It is much more in-depth than the law itself with an abundance of citations. It goes a long way toward clarifying confusing parts of the FMLA and DOL regulations and noting where courts have made contradictory decisions. A bonus is that it comes with a CD that allows the book to be downloaded into a PC where searches can be conducted. The referenced court decisions are also available for downloading. It will keep its space on my bookshelf, without gathering dust.

Shoplifting "facts" by Cupchik appear questionable........1999-04-01
Fair book with very large font. Cupchik makes some generalizations that are questionable. Most of his writing is based on two studies that he has authored with a very limited sample, and these are slammed into a strong psychoanalytic theory for discussion. Although the text is thought provoking, more validation is needed to test his conclusions. Overall, fair book.

Will Cupchik's book is turning my life around. An absoluteMUST READ for anybody with a shoplifting problem, habbit, adiction. Ifthis is you, or anyone you know, please, please buy this book (don't steal it :-)). I wish i had read it years ago. Upon purchasing i found it harder to put down than any book i have ever read. I felt it was wrtitten about me, for me. I have been arrested three times for shoplifting and i can proudly say, i will not offend again and truly beleive it in my heart Thanks Dr Cupchik.

The world would be a much better place if we all practiced random acts of kindness on a regular basis. It only takes a simple act, a kind word, or some small amount of kindness to change a person's whole day. Even the crankiest person, when given the chance, can actually show that their humanity. Moreover, kindness is highly contagious, so it is the gift that keeps giving. In return, we are able see people in a different light, feel more connected, and ultimately change the world just a little.
Practice Random Acts of Kindness is truly awe-inspiring. From the title, I expected that this book would include very specific lists of things that I could do to practice random acts of kindness in my own life. I was fully ready to pour over several hundreds of pages of ideas until I found one or two acts that I could actually do.
I was happily surprised. As I read though the pages, I came up with dozens of things that I could actually do in my daily life. Instead of long lists to peruse, this book examines important topics associated with helping others such as understanding what you expect to get out of being kind, how seemingly small acts go a long way, and most importantly that the best time to do an act of kindness is when you don't feel like it (for someone who might not be so appreciative). Each section includes an inspirational quote and stories of those who received or witnessed acts of kindness. This format allowed me to be creative and find ways to use my own talents, abilities, and circumstances to make the world just a little better.

This book is a wonderful expression on what the world needs most. I just couldn't punish my 8 month old puppy when he ate the cover off the book. So, even there is a random act of kindness inspired by this book.

I am a Sophomore at Montclair State University, and I am currently enrolled in John Basil's Acting Class. The book is the required reading, and I am not in the least bit displeased! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it helped me a lot with my Shakespeare scene in class. John Basil is an amazing professor, and I only hope I get to work with him again in the future! I would recommend this book to anyone who is entering the world of theatre or acting!

John Basil is a fantastic acting teacher and I am thrilled with his book Will Power. This is a wonderful articulation of his style, focus, and gift for teaching Shakespeare. The lessons in this book will help actors discover the layers of meaning in Shakespeare's language, and then use that knowledge to put bold character choices into action. These skills work wonderfully with Shakespeare and can also be applied to other plays written in heightened language. Sophocles, Sheridan, and Shaw, as well as Shakespeare, will feel invigorating rather than intimidating for the actor equipped with Basil's techniques. I use many of these same techniques when auditioning for or acting in commercials. After working through Shakespeare, making sense of medical jargon is easy. Whether you're a seasoned professional or a student, if you work through this book and apply these techniques consistently and courageously, you will learn to act Shakespeare in a realized and compelling way. This book would also be an excellent text for a university acting course focusing on Shakespeare. Over the years I have introduced my college students to Basil's techniques. Now that Basil's written this book, I can't wait to guide them through Will Power.

This book outlines a theory and practical method of instruction in developing true will thoroughly. the strong will, the good will, the skillful will, the transpersonal will, and its various qualities, are covered in detail. to recognize the ego as will itself, is the culmination of this book, through exercise, meditation, disidentification, affirmation, etc. I would like to recommend three other books, and the exercises in particular I believe to be most effective:
1. magical tattwas, jonn mumford
the pre-skrying exercise of exploring one's favorite room, and performing the blackboard writing on the ceiling. note the use of multiple colors. utilize will affirmation for every imaging act.
2. on love and psychological exercises, A.R. Orage
the exercises in here, when done on the blackboard from above, even just the numbers, when using multiple colors and will affirmation, may bring a person to identify with the self as will. the essays might aid in understanding differential psychology.
3. undoing yourself with energized meditation, C. Hyatt
using the methods outlined here, strengthen the will, increase meditative success, integrate and satiate the needs of both the superego and id, potentially tap into the transpersonal will.
Current scientific investigations in the realm of psychology and psychiatry have attempted to debunk the legitimacy of the subjective experience of the will, and its potential, to manifest objective results. a well informed investigation of the claims made in this book, i believe, may increase knowledge of why the techniques work. instead of reiterating an endless debate.
A True Classic.......2001-01-01
There are few books that truly rank a 5 Star rating, and there are few books which come close to this one's significance in the history of modern psychological thought. Freud and Jung have been overrated and over-idolized, but as their contemporary RA deserves a much wider following -- and his work as the father of Pschyosynthesis has a much more integrative view of the deeper human psyche's recesses. This is both a treatise of fundamental ideas and a practical book for practioners of psychotherapy and psychiatry, as well as social work, education, and human sciences (sociology, history, anthropology, etc.). RA had none of the fears that many others had of seeming to be a kook - because he wasn't. This was a man whose personal life story (blind, etc.) stands as testimony to what he was capable of, and this book only reinforces the gorwing (buut still largely unheard view) that he will become on the most important dead-but-still-important psychological thinkers/doers in the coming decades.

I got this book as a gift from someone that read it before. And I am so happy that I have it, it is fantastic, fool of ideas about family blessings, and way to make your family spiritually stronger. It explains step by step how to start the family blessing at your home, it is fantastic, very spiritual... I love it!

This trilogy of a woman's life, struggles, and successes, is the best of this type I've ever read. The reader gets to know, and love her(Emma) and her longtime friend/love(Blackie). More tears than usual were shed over each one's passing. I did not want the trilogy to end

Acts of Will is not only a brilliantly written biography, it is a journey of hope for both therapist and patient. As the new century draws near, it is profoundly telling that now more than ever, the psychology of Otto Rank is so relevant to the world today. Obviously, Rank was far ahead of his time. His teachings of "psychological rebirth" and "concept of will" should be mandatory reading for all mental Health professionals and their patients.
