Can people really be healed of deep-seated emotional, psychological and spiritual problems-like the trauma of sexual abuse, depression or involvement in the occult? Is it enough simply to pray with people, or is long-term counseling an essential part of the healing process? What are some key spiritual disciplines for renewing the minds and spirits of those who have been wounded? What are the spiritual roots of problems like addiction, rage and various eating disorders? These are the sorts of questions Charles Kraft explores in Deep Wounds, Deep Healing, providing a complete guide to inner healing that is helpful both for the sufferers and those who care for them.

Practical help for Christians to heal on several levels.......2005-08-03
Great book. Excellent practical ways as a self-help or for ministry to others. It gives examples and guidelines for how to walk through letting Christ do the healing and for getting rid of spirits in a non-violent way. Very helpful.
The Best.......2000-09-30
Of all the books on inner healing and deliverance that I have read, this one has been one of the two most helpful. Dr. Kraft not only explains what happens in a ministry session, he also explains how to do it. A must for those wanting to see God move in this type of ministry!

Moon Hunting Re-Defined.......2006-05-23
You will forever view your hunting by the moon phases in a different light after reading this book. You will also examine and very likely modify your hunting to improve and increase your harvest successes. Charlie Alsheimer backs up his philosophies and strategies with experience and research. It is not just based on random opinions and limited field experience. This is a "must read" for the serious deer hunter!
It has changed when I hunt.......2003-12-05
For years I chased whitetails during rifle season only hoping that the rut would be on. It rarely was so I picked up bowhunting to extend my season and give me a better chance of catching the rut. I was still sitting in a tree wait for the rut to start. Mr. Alsheimer's insights have helped me greatly. I now can request vacation time to coincide with the rut, scout an area, set up a stand, and be sitting pretty. The past two years have been great thanks to Mr. Alsheimer's help
A real gem among rhinestones.......2002-11-25
Let's just cut to the chase: there are a lot of books out there by self-proclaimed "experts" on how to hunt the wily whitetail. Most of them are just re-hashed information that any serious deerhunter already knows (or should). The number of really interesting and innovative books on this subject is low.
In this book, Charles Alsheimer gives us some truly helpful advice--whether or not you buy the moon theory. This is a good book and well-written, to boot.
Is It All Moon Influence?.......2001-12-17
I believe Mr. Alsheimer is on to something important regarding the autumn cycle of whitetail life, but I am not sure that he has the whole story. The book is based on anecdotal evidence and observations of penned deer. Another author, John Ozoga, writes concerning the effects of age, nutrition, social status, habitat, and population dynamics among the factors influencing the onset and duration of the rut. I do not wish to disparage these observations and anecdotes, he gives sufficient from wide ranging areas to bolster his point; and; anecdotal evidence can, and sometimes does, have the force of experimentation. But then, how would one design more rigorous experiments?
I think that Mr. Alsheimer is a biological pioneer for this theory. He has shown himself to be a keen observer of whitetail life, and has made an important contribution to our understanding of the rut.
This book is, without question, well worth reading.
Hunting Whitetails by the Moon.......2001-08-17
Charles Alsheimer coveys good usefull information on how the Moon effects Whitetail deer movement and breeding activity. The book moves along a well managed path documenting the ideas based on countless hours of research as well as observation from many an expert hunter. It covers the stages of the rut for North America and suggests times to focus hunting efforts and stratagies to use at these times. I think it's a great addition to any hunter or wildlife enthusiast's library and I can't wait to use some of the information I've learned. Two thumbs up!

best hunting book---EVER!!!!!.......2006-04-14
Alsheimer shows what deer hunting is made of with this book. You'll get top-of-the-line information on planting food plots, managing trees, keeping records on your deer, hunting deer for your setup--everything!! He not only tells you how to manage your property and deer, but also explains how deer live throughout the entire year.
Charlie Alshiemer is a photographer by trade, which is very obvious in this book. His photos of whitetails are nothing short of amazing.
His style is very matter-of-fact and easy to understand, making it that much more enjoyable to read.
This is by far the most informative book I have ever read. Buy it today; you will get your money's worth. I wish there were more books like this one on the market!! I'll give it as many stars as are available!!
Great Book.......2005-09-22
I couldn't put the book down. I grew up in Steuben County in the town of Caton. Iam going to start implementing some of the things I learned in this book this year. I would tell anyone interested in learning how to grow bigger deer (buck or doe) should read this book.
Alsheimer Does it Again.......2003-06-12
Charlie Alsheimer is possibly the best white-tailed deer writer of all time. He is certainly the best deer photographer. His new book Quality Deer Managment the Basics and Beyond, is a prime example of both his talent as a writer and his brilliance as a photographer. I believe it to be his best book ever.
The book is written in Charlie's classic down home, easy to read style with easy to grasp explinations of complicated deer managment issues. He covers virtually every aspect of the QDM scene with common sense and uncommon insight. His treatment of the topic is inspirational and leaves you wanting to get out there and start practicing QDM now!
The photos chosen to illustrate the text are nothing short of spectacular. They bring the entire text to life in brilliant color and give you an up close and personal view of whitetails as only Alsheimer can.
After reading this book I picked up a copy of "Grow 'em Right" the new "how to" habitat and food plot book by Dougherty & Dougherty and am now ready to conquer the world of Quality deer managment. Now white-tailed deer book library is complete without this book

Customer Reviews:
Excellent reference for the whitewater enthusiast........1998-09-08
Mssrs. Walbridge and Sundmacher cover the subject of whitewater rescue well. It is geared toward the recreational boater, but is also a valuable tool for the public safety officer (police, sheriff, fire/rescue,SAR, ranger, etc.). It does not cover reading whitewater, since assumes the reader is already a boater of some sort. It does present the most common problems and solutions. In addition it covers use of the tools needed to safely execute timely rescues. Easy reading, excellent photographs and drawings illustrate the points well.

Book Description
For the first time a book finally combines field experience with the fundamentals of turf science to help you understand the concepts involved in proper grown-in management, and to troubleshoot problems on-site throughout the management process. A major goal os this unique handbook is to outline and detail the numerous quality control issues that face golf course superintendents and managers—to serve as a guideline for the multitude of questions that need to be addressed before, during and after construction. It stresses the magnitude and importance of finish construction and grow-in as it relates to turf maintenance, turf performance and the playability of the course—from its opening into the future. A great resource to help educate owners and developers about the details of the grow-in sequence and its budgetary requirements.

Nothing new.......2006-06-28
I didn't really gain anything from this book. Maybe because I read other books on financial planning already. The charts are boring and confusing. The one star is for the chapter on estate planning. That is the largest and most useful chapter in the book. If you're interested in this, then you should read this book, but for one chapter...eh, get it from the library.
Amazon has wrong author on review page 4/8/06.......2006-04-08
First, Amazon on its review page is wrong. The book is by Ron Blue. The forward to the book is by Swindoll.
The book is easy to follow with easy how-to worksheets/tables to apply to your own situation.
Master Your Money.......2006-02-25
I liked this book because it helps me to understand in laymans terms what I really need to do in order to save money. I've tried several of the ideas mentioned in the book with POSITIVE results.

Brings out the magnificance of the whitetail........2001-01-11
This is a book for everyone. Naturalist, conservationist, hunter, whatever you may be you'll enjoy this book. Based on what Mr. Alsheimer does best, photography, he takes you through the seasons. The pictures are splendid. Accompaning this photographic walk through a yearly whitetail lifecycle is a sound base of information concerning the whitetail's behavior.
Not quite what I expected, but it was still good.......2000-08-18
I purchased this book, thinking that it was a hunting book. I was quite surprised that the book was a photojournal rather than a hunting book.
However, the book is filled with lots of extraordinary pictures of whitetails. The book does contain a lot of information on whitetail deer. Some of it can be applied to hunting, a lot of it is "interesting" or "nice to know" type information.
Despite this book not being what I expected, it is still a very fine book. I did learn a lot about whitetail deer in this book and the photography was excellent. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the beauty of a whitetail deer, hunters and non-hunters alike.

The best whitetail book I have ever read!.......1998-09-01
Whitetail: Behavior Through the Seasons was the best whitetail book that I have ever read. Alsheimer has a wonderful way of words and is unparalled with the camera. Each page is filled with stunning pictures that coinside with the reading. The book will be read and looked at agin and agin. It's truely worth every penny.
Book Description
Why do people "take 40 winks" and not 50...or 60, or 70? Did someone literally "let the cat out of the bag" at one point in time? Has anyone actually "gone on a wild goose chase"? Find out the answers to these questions and many more in this enormous collection, comprised of four bestselling titles: A Hog on Ice, Thereby Hangs a Tale, Heavens to Betsy! and Horsefeathers and Other Curious Words. Dr. Funk, editor-in-chief of the Funk & Wagnalls Standard Dictionary Series, reveals the sometimes surprising, often amusing, and always fascinating roots of more than 2,000 vernacular words and expressions. From "kangaroo court" to "one-horse town", from "face the music" to "hocus-pocus," it's an entertaining linguistic journey.

Not the Best Hard to follow.......2006-02-24
You know those books that use too many of these. . . 1888 (ci) [belg.] having to do with or related to: (types of) {relative to}. . . Kinda hard to follow with all that jargon. Simple phrases aren't in there. Index doesn't really organize the words or phrases well. It is almost written like a dictionary but not in alphabetical order. The book didn't focus on phrases as much as it did single words like "cannibal" and "catacomb" and so on.
Not what I expected (very big and bulky book). I reccomend Heavens To Betsy & Other Curious Sayings but since the republishing of it (2002) it seems it has changed. Oh well
Informative and fun.......2003-02-16
What a fun book! We often pull this one off the shelf when we use an expression and wonder where it comes from. It is a book that invites browsing, and is hard to close once you are into it. We've learned all sorts of great stuff from this book, and since language does not develop in a void, what we have gleaned from this book has led us to research and learning about other areas as well.
For trivia buffs, crossword addicts and etomologists everwhe.......2002-01-30
I came across this book at a local bookstore that had a selection of books for word lovers. I perused it while I drank my frappacino, and soon was convinced I had to take it home with me. It is the most intriguing book I have ever read. It is formatted like a dictionary, but for everyone who loves word origin and other trivia, you will come back to it time and again. It is an example of useless knowledge at its best. The history of the word "omelette" is absolutely fascinating, and the evolution in the pronunciation of "one" intrigues me. They still can't decide where "hobo" comes from.
I should mention one minute drawback--the man who first wrote these books (and his son continues the tradition) lived at the beginning of the twentieth century, so the book isn't as "hip" as the title would seem to indicate. If you aren't already interested in words, this won't get you going.
Let The Cat Out of The Bag!.......2000-08-10
Oh Horsefeathers! Get the word out! This book is over 900 pages of entertaining trivia of cliches, word origins, historic events, classical literature, and even frontier humor plus MORE!
Author, Charles Earie Funk, (yes of Funk & Wagnalls fame) has included four previous bestselling titles, "A Hog On Ice", "Thereby Hangs", "A Tale", "Heavens To Betsy", and "Horsefeathers".
I always enjoy referring back to this fun book. It also makes for a good ice-breaker at a party or even a family gathering. Want to distract pinch-cheeking Auntie Rose? Let her have a gander at "2107 Curious Word Origins, Sayings and Expressions".
Warning--once you start thumbing through this, you'll be speaking in cliches for days!
Superb educational fun for all ages.

A Must Read.......2006-12-13
Regardless of age, skin color, or ethnicity, Charles Mills' concepts regarding the invisible contract of white supremacy is an eloquent truth about modern society. Citizens go through day to day life with a misconception that the fight for equality was somehow miraculously won with desegregation and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. However, The Racial Contract throws that notion right out the door. Unfortunately, unless you are engaged in the current injustices regarding racial tensions, the concept is lost. Charles Mills fully admits his "contract" is not a tangible text of racist beliefs, but the text is a detailed description of the subconscious ideologies of superiority that truly dictate political agenda. Unfamiliar with the work of Mills until my Junior year in college, I have to say that Mills accomplished his goal of redirecting pigeon-holed ideas, at least with myself. I would recommend The Racial Contract to anyone who believes in the power of knowledge. Although, I caution readers who would read this book for the simple sake of saying you read it. Unless you are open to thought provoking ideas and enlightening truths this book is not for you, only because it deserves an open mind and respect toward a heartbreaking realization that the land of the free really isn't as free as we would like to think.
An Essential Read!.......2006-02-17
I'm not sure this book needs much of a review. Most folks who have gotten this far are probably already predisposed towards buying this book anyway. Other reviews of this book treat the book exactly the way Mills has covered the subject matter. I will not be as eloquent. This book is quite simply the most truthful book ever written on the subject. "The Racial Contract" should be required reading for everyone that can read. Its message is not finger pointing, or condescending in tone. It is not apologetic at all. It could be a wake up call for Eurocentric civilization... if it is read!
Not Deconstruction but Still a Tour de Force.......2003-06-22
"White supremacy is the unnamed political system that has made the modern world what it is today." So begins The Racial Contract, and in the mere 133 pages that follow this line the book deftly marshals evidence from the Western political tradition and general history to effectively place race at the heart of political theory. It centrally elucidates the ways in which the social contract has unspoken suppositions which in actuality make it a handshake between whites to exploit the lands, labors and bodies of nonwhites. These suppositions include the understanding that the peoples and places it "races" are not fully human--an idea that has legitimated 500 years of Western atrocities and exploitations exacted upon countries with peoples of color. Thus it also calls into question the popular idea that racism is merely a misguided worldview, and says rather that it is solidly within the epistemological, political and moral understandings of the West.
Mills places his theory firmly within the liberal conception of rights and so explores the ways in which such rights (as to life and labors) have been systematically alienated from nonwhites. Hence, those who have called this work a "deconstruction" or anti-Enlightenment are quite wrong. Mills: "Though it may appear to be such, the 'Racial Contract' is not a 'deconstruction' of the social contract.... The 'Racial Contract' is really...pro-Enlightenment...and antipostmodernist" (129). The reason that this is so important to Mills' project is that he is not proposing that ethics are relative or that there are no ethical norms that can coherently be placed at the center of a political project. He proposes that there are such norms but that they have been systematically denied to nonwhites. He also puts forth the very unpostmodern idea that there is a correct metanarrative of history--one that identifies white supremacy and conquest as the unnamed political system making the world what it is today. Hence, this work is more correctly placed in the tradition of the "radical and to-be-completed Enlightenment" (129). (In other words, if prospective readers are looking for contemporary continental thought--go to [my favorites] Zizek, Foucault or Fanon, not to Mills.)
I hope that this does not sound too academic or technical. I have read plenty of dry and boring theoretical texts, and this simply is not that. I stayed up until four in the morning finishing The Racial Contract in one sitting--it is perhaps my favorite book read thus far in college. Anyone concerned about the problems of race--whether familiar with political theory or not--can (and should) read this book and get a tremendous amount from it.
A wholistic look at race.......2000-07-14
A must read.
In The Racial Contract, Mills places race in context of much larger societal patterns. His approach allows us to see the systemic nature of the problem. Given this context, one can have a more objective conversation about constructs relating to racism.
As a black person, The Racial Contract helped me understand why racism exists, why it's so difficult to reverse and how we all play a role in the system.
Reader beware. Unless you are an academic, the first third of the book can be tough going. It's worth pushing forward. Mills' writing gets easier to navigate.
a must read.......2000-03-29
this book really opened my eyes....being a philosophy major, i have always been bombarded with western european thought and its influences on culture. the thing that has always been praised the most is the wonder of the Enlightenment. it has been heralded as doing more for the individual than any other age, BUT.....
mills clearly and passionately shows how this is simply not the case...
