This is a wonderful book! It's a surprisingly inventive and original take on colors. Children will want to read it over and over and adults will enjoy the compelling text and innovative design. The illustrations do a terrific job supporting this unique approach to looking at and thinking about color.

I just love looking into that little Blue face on the front cover of the journal. I have no intention of using it as a journal but appreciate the combination of lined and unlined pages. Love it!

This book is a must for the Blue Dog collector. It is a blank page journal with a small Blue Dog sketch at the top of every page. Has both lined and unlined pages for either writing your creative thoughts down or sketching whatever comes up. Nice crisp hardbound front and back with a neat spiral bound tht makes writing/drawing easy.

I bought this book for my husband, who is a huge fan of George Rodrigue. What can I say? He was floored. He's never seen such a coplete collection of Rodrigue's work, and the history included in the book for George and his life and work is great.
This is a book that you need to have if you are a true fan, and if you're never heard of him, you should get it for the tremendous artwork the book holds.

I love these note cards. While my husband and I lived in Louisiana we went to George Rodrigue's gallery and fell in love with the Blue Dog. I just had to have these notecards!

New Blue Dog Art Included, But Quality Not the Same.......2003-08-20

I collect the Blue Dog Calendars for the art (a Blue Dog for every week of the year!). Rodrigue now has a new publisher/printer and the change is very noticable. The calendar for 2004 looks more childlike, with a garish bright yellow background on the cover and bright yellow plastic spiral spine (don't know what else to call it). The print quality is not as good as past calendars either. However, it is a great deal for the price. I LOVE the page with Louis Armstrong and Blue Dog. I've only seen this print in expensive Jazz Fest posters.

If you like Blue Dog (and I do!), you will love these cards. It's not clear in the description, but this set comes with 15 total cards - 3 each of 5 designs. The box is a real collectable, too. I'll buy more - to send and to frame!

I liked them so much I orderd two more boxes. Now I have one to use, one to frame and one to keep untouched by human hands. The box they come in is as nice as the cards themselves.

A very pleasant bonus.......2007-01-10

Because I have two cardigan corgis my cousin gave me this calender for 2006, and I bought one for '07.
It's pretty standard for this type of calendar as far as layout and organization. The bonus is that I bought it in October and expected to start using it in January, but was able to start using it immediately because the pages cover Sept '06 through Jan 8, '08. And I like the art, it's rare that my corgis don't have that sadsack, deer in the headlights look.

Teach an old dog new tricks? Absolutely, provided the pooch in question is Blue Dog, that colorful canine spawned from the mind of Cajun artist George Rodrigue. (For those no up to their four-legged friends fodder, the cobalt canine with the yellow eyes is based on three of the artist's now-dead dogs, and was first immortalized on slick papers back in 1994.) Who says a sleeping dog must lie? This babe is everywhere: portraits hang in the White House, on the set of "Friends" and in fan Whoopi Goldberg's abode; Blue Dog also stars in an Absolut ad. This volume boasts 60 gorgeous never-before-published paintings, along with commentary by Rodrigue on the birth of Blue Dog and its transformation into a pop culture icon. You just can't fully appreciate or understand the scope and delight of Blue Dog until you read this book. I adore Blue Dog. This silly, goofy blue dog provokes emotions in me that I have not experienced with art before...there is some strange, sad, beautiful, eerie, rapturous, haunting, joyful essence to this darn dog. This book is completely unique, fun, inspirational...I could go on and on. You just have to touch this book (the cover is fuzzy!) and open it...you will be hooked. The best coffee table book and a sure conversation starter, though that is hardly its value.

Any book with more of Blue Dog is great. This features more of the pop art world of Blue Dog than the previous books of Rodrigue's work. (I actually like the paintings of Blue Dog in cajun settings best.)

This is one of those "hmmmmm...interesting" books. George Rodrigue gives a compelling history about his roots and how Blue Dog came into creation. While I love the content of the book, I am even more facinated by the design. Inside you will find a "punch-out" blue dog mask, postcards and other little nifty interactive thing-a-ma-jigs that help make this book such a pleasure to enjoy.

Long Live The Blue Dog!.......2000-04-05

This is a weighty (but not cumbersome) coffee table book that any thinking, feeling human being would be happy to own. Ever since I saw some original Blue Dog paintings in New Orleans, I've wanted to own one of them. Alas, I'm too poor. This book captures the spirit of the little alien-looking pooch and lets me borrow it for a price I can manage.

Great Cajun works.......2000-10-28

This is a great book that showcases a terrific regional artist. Rodrigue's best Blue Dog work is found here (IMO) as well as wonderful Cajun lanscapes. If you are looking for "Pop Art" pick up Blue Dog Man, not this. This is regionalist work, and it is excellent.

Shallow.......2000-02-18

Disillusionment is a bad thing.

It really is.

My opinion of George Rodrigue has slipped so far below respect as to be sloshing about in a sewage drain that empties its contents somewhere near to a cemetery.

Now that I know more than I should ever want to about this very simple, and very trendy artist, I find that my opinion of his actual work, his art, has changed.

Quite simply, I now see George Rodrigue as a trite dabbler in colors and emotionless boredom who's sole ambition is to make money.

Then again, the creators of Barney the Dinosaur and the Tela-Tubbies are inspired by just the same motivation and I don't see anyone criticizing them for it.

Perhaps I am being too hard.

A Blue Dog for Every Day of the Year.......2007-09-26

I had an extensive collection of signed first edition Blue Dog books, calendars, note cards, etc., until a mean lady by the name of Katrina wiped them out.

Although I was not in the mood to spend money to replace these treasures, I did see this calendar in a Barnes and Noble Bookstore. As I paged through I saw some of my precious collection staring at me. I bought it immediately.

The calendar is sturdy to use or (as in my case) make as a keepsake. Included are: "My Security Blanket" where the Blue Dog is wrapped in the American Flag; "Truly Rudy", with Dog wearing reindeer antlers which was also made in notecards. "Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog", with dog in shades standing in front of a "Bourbon Street Jazz Band of New Orleans" drum; "Dog in a Bearsuit" with dog adorable as a Blue Bear in disguise; and many more to meet any taste.

If you're like me and love the Blue Dog this is an inexpensive way to get a great collection. The calendar pages are glossy and somewhat sturdy, not a cheap paper throwaway.

I do go back and visit St Bernard Parish and get my New Orleans "fix" of beignets and coffee at the Cafe Du Monde, but Caddo Parish is a long way. This is one of my few new items to remind me of my Parish roots. I also love to page through this calendar to remind me of my Cajun roots because there are a few Blue Dogs with a Bayou and mossy tree background.

Whether this is your history or you're from Boston, New York, etc., if you're a Blue Dog lover I recommend it.....with a 5-star endorsement.

Why mess with the format.......2007-09-03

I was given the 06-07 calender, really liked it, and bought the new one. It is just as attractive, but the 06-07 was soft cover, easy to carry, and fit in my standard size calender folder. This one is hard cover, has bigger ring binding, is heavier, and doesn't fit in the calender folder. Why would you do that?
