Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Whereas Volume I of this series investigates the overall structure of children's picture storybooks at the macro level, this volume, Volume II, investigates the very building blocks of picture storybooks at the micro level: the word, the sentence, the scene and the story. We look at the importance of word choice for giving the story meaning and cohesion. We look at ways to change sentence structure to emphasize the information that is important, and to ensure that sentences flow easily from one to another. We look at the scene: how to begin it, how to end it, and how to create the Beats of action-reaction that make up the scene. And finally we look at the story: what types of problems must a character solve? When does a story introduce a problem? And once a problem is intro-duced, how do picture storybooks move from problem to solution? What types of solutions do characters find? Is there any part of a story that occurs after the solution is found? To answer these and other questions is to describe storytelling strategies. We look at enduringly popular children's picture storybooks to see what storytelling strategies they employ.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for picture book writers.......2007-09-04

I was having trouble with rhythm and beats in my picture book writing. This book really helped me learn the beat structure in picture book writing and how they create rhythm. My picture book writing seemed flat and lifeless and now, thanks to this book, it has the rhythm it was lacking. I would also suggest Volumes I and III for other parts of picture book writing. Definitely a must have for those writing picture books and those needing to learn the structure, rhythm and specific language used in those types of books.

5 out of 5 stars Practical and Easy-to-understand.......2006-11-14

I'm thrilled to see a second volume to Bine-Stock's first in this series dedicated to taking the mystery out of writing a picture book. Bine-Stock rises to the top once again as she explains, simply and clearly, how to build a picture book from the ground up. Focusing on choosing the right words, using the best sentence structure, creating a scene, and utilizing a powerful storytelling technique, this book is a valuable tool. I plan on recommending it to other authors I know!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant... a ten-star gem!.......2007-10-06

Regis Faller's "Polo" picture books are absolutely brilliant and magical... These fab French imports feature Polo, a cheerful, indomitable cartoon dog with a flair for improvisation, bravery and boundless curiosity... The wordless, multi-panel graphic novels recall the fantastic, breathless wonder of the old "Tin-Tin" books, only without any real sense of danger, just pure adventure, fantasy, and fun. Polo climbs a ladder to the sky, is scooped up birds, falls inside an iceberg and climbs up to the moon, where little green men welcome him into their mushroom-strewn underground kingdom...

Polo is a marvelous reading experience, and it expects as much from its readers as it gives back. Adults can guide children through the story, commenting on each panel, or summarizing entire pages, creating the narrative as they go along. Children can also spend hours alone, pouring over the panels and making up stories of their own... and they will!

Highly recommended. One of our favorite books. (ReadThatAgain)

5 out of 5 stars Polo is awesome in any language.......2007-08-22

I fell in love with this charming, colorful series featuring Polo and his friends. I bought this book for my daughter (then 2) and she immediately loved the format and that we could "read" this book. There are no words, only vibrant, comic-book style pictures with the adventurous Polo sailing his boat, climbing up to the moon, diving into the ocean, escaping polar bears, and more. I love that this is an alternative to the usual princess fare that my daughter prefers, and that she uses her imagination to embellish the simple pictures - giving characters names and making up dialogue.

5 out of 5 stars We love it when out 5-year-old "reads" this to us.......2007-07-25

At last! A book our daughter can read to us. Or, rather, "read," because actually recognizing words and sentences is, at 5, still pretty much beyond her. But when she tells us a story, based on her understanding of pictures arranged in a narrative ---- she loves that. Makes her feel big. Smart. No wonder she says, "I'm five...but in my head, I'm seven."

Emboldened by a good first experience, we risked a second book told completely in pictures: "The Adventures of Polo", by the French illustrator Regis Faller. As with "Flotsam", this is a story that starts simply and gets increasingly --- and, from the child's point-of-view, delightfully --- complex. You might think complexity is beyond a child who can't read. If so, get this book, ask your kid to "tell me the story," and see what you get. ["Polo" is said to be appropriate for kids as old as eight. I can't imagine a kid beyond six who will respond, but you know your kid.]

Here's what "Polo" gives you: an upbeat little dog in dark pants, a red jacket and a brown backpack. When we meet him, he's just leaving his house --- a giant tree on a tiny island. There's a stake in the ground. And a rope tied to it and leading.... somewhere. Polo unfurls his umbrella, steps up on the rope, and, like a circus performer, balances on it and walks over the ocean.

The taut rope turns into stairs. Polo climbs to the top, descends a rope slide, lands on a cloud. Sailing aloft, he eats a bowl of white cloud. He comes upon another cloud, with another dog, fishing. Polo slides down the fishing line to a boat --- conveniently named "Polo" --- and sails off.

Night falls. Polo dons a diving mask, sinks to the ocean bottom, finds a glowing star in a treasure chest. Naturally, he happens upon the King of Fish, bearing a wand that looks distressingly incomplete. Polo sticks the star on top, returns to his boat and sails on.

Ooops. The boat is beached. Where is he? An island. Wait! It spouts! It has a giant eye! It's a whale! Happily, a friendly one, because after Polo hammers some "wings" on his boat, the whale uses his tail to send him flying. But as Polo zooms over an island, a volcano throws up a rock, and...

And so it goes, one zany adventure after another. And the illustrations! Vibrant primary colors make this a book of incessant good cheer. It's a pleasure just to see "Polo" on a coffee table --- the cover suggests the pleasure within.

There are five Polo books published in France. As yet, there are only two Polos available in this country. Why? It's not like they need to be translated. (In all the books, Faller has said, there are, in fact, three words.)

Not long ago, we knew nothing of Polo. Now the little guy is our daughter's new best friend. As she tells us of his adventures, we turn into goofballs and beam with pride.

This deep pleasure is, I suspect, also available in your home.

5 out of 5 stars Creative, Innovative, Imaginative book! .......2007-03-01

We LOVE this book, and his new one too. Each time we can change the story however we choose. It's so fun to let our 2 year old participate with her ideas! Our 4 year old loves to play pretend with this book. It's the perfect book for when we're all a little too tired to read.

The illustrations are beautifully done with a playful bent. This little dog has the best adventures!! Driving clouds, becoming friends with an imprisoned snowman (who he helps escape), and learning that friendship is the most important thing of all.

A++ from this family!

5 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Polo.......2006-08-30

This book is amazing. I am well over the suggested age to read this book, yet Polo still managed to take me from my reading chair into an amazing world where all things are possible. I highly recommend this book for all ages.

5 out of 5 stars What a great idea!.......2006-01-30

My 3 year old son absolutely loves this book. Although there are no words, it gives him a great opportunity to use his imagination. The pictures are simple and as he makes up the words for each page it gives him the feeling of accomplishment of finishing a book on his own.

5 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Book.......2005-10-27

This is an excellent book for speakers of other languages and for Deaf students. As an American Sign language teacher, I use this book to encourage my students to think outside the box, to learn to express in ASL what they see in this book. The characters are so expressive and actions so clear that it is easy for others to understand what is happening. I also use this book for ASL assessment to evaluate how children retell the stories in ASL.

5 out of 5 stars A Boy, A Dog and A Frog.......2005-08-09

This book is wonderful. I am planning to use it in a research project for my dissertation in clinical psychology. It allows the children to tell there own story and also pulls for emotions so that the mother and child can discuss different emotions. The pictures are illustrated well. This is a rich picture book that allows for the child and/or parents to tell a story and focus on what they feel is important. It encourages creativity in children

1 out of 5 stars NO WRITING.......2005-05-08

This book should only be sold with a BIG warning: THIS BOOK HAS NO WRITING!!

Ok, so a few reviews now mention this fact, but when I ordered the book there was NO WARNING that this book had no writing. As a big fan of Mercer Mayer's Little Critter series and also The Great Brain series, I was very disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars very cute story.......2004-01-31

This totally wordless book has a very cute story. A boy and his dog go to the pond to try to catch a frog. Things go wrong and they can't catch him. Then a cute surprise ending. The only thing I don't like is that in the library version, the black & white drawings are very small and hard to see (at least for this middle-ager!). Maybe a different edition would be better. Larger pictures with some color would be nice. Overall, I love this little book.

Excellent illustrations - allows prereading skills to develop before connection to print is made.

5 out of 5 stars Kids Love the Impossibility of It.......2005-07-18

In spite of the reservations of some earlier reviewers, I'd say our kids love the Carl books precisely BECAUSE nobody would use a rottweiler as a babysitter or as a pint-sized saddle horse for a toddler! We laughed and made a big deal to our kids that nobody would ever do any of this.

It is a bit over the top to consider this a dangerous book. If you've ever read the stories made up by very young children, in fact, these are quite tame. They enjoy thinking about being in control and what wild things they could do if the grown-ups weren't around. It's not as if your kids are going to try balancing a cake in the air while standing on a ball or will try flying a kite indoors after reading "Cat in the Hat." Although the pictures are realistic, these books are in that league.

PS The art in these books is beautifully and lovingly done, almost love letters to dogs and young children. They are a pleasure to look at, regardless of your age.

5 out of 5 stars Miss Green's Class, Lee Elementary School, Azusa, CA.......2004-10-06

Carl is a big dog who baby sits his family's baby and they have lots of fun adventures. You have to figure out what is going on by the pictures because only the first page has words. You will like this book. Carl is cool and we wish we had a dog like him.

2 out of 5 stars Won't show this book to my toddler.......2004-09-27

The fantasy story in this book is delightful, as are the illustrations. However, the book repeatedly shows a baby riding on a dog. There is no way I'm going to give the idea of riding a dog to my 2-year-old, especially because we have a dog in our household. This book would be better suited for older children who are able to recognize the difference between real and pretend.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated Christmas book for toddlers/Pre-K.......2003-11-17

Overhearing a man at the bookstore ask for a "baby's first Christmas" book, this one leapt to mind. It's an enjoyable tale about a family dog keeping watch over the baby at Christmas time. They leave the house on their own and journey through the snow-swept streets of town enjoying a variety of Christmas scenes sure to warm the heart.

There is almost no dialogue in the book, which allows parents to narrate the story at the language level of their child. Children, too, would be able to pick up the book and follow the story simply through the beautiful illustrations. Carl being left to babysit may bother some readers, but I accepted the premise as fantasy and was captivated by the colorful, touching images of Christmas as experienced by Carl and his young charge.

You would not believe the things this dog Pete puts in his stomach. An accordion, for starters. Then an eggbeater, a glue stick, Mrs. Parsley's pink pocketbook, and cousin Rocky's underpants. ("Uggh!") Pete's faithful mistress, Poppy Wise, is at her wit's end. And yet, she can't help loving that dog. ("Quite a lot.") So, from A to Z (in a loose, meandering way), Poppy inventories her insatiable pooch's intake, with loads of parenthetical asides, witty commentary, and an unforgettable cast of characters. Maira Kalman, zany and talented source of Next Stop Grand Central, Ooh-la-la (Max in Love), and other exquisitely quirky picture books, uses the alphabet as a framework for what is truly an ode to a well-loved if incorrigible--dog. Her spectacularly rich gouache paintings are just the thing to illustrate this linguistic playpen. Read this one aloud—-kids and adults alike will sit enthralled. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter

Book Description

Is there anything Pete won't eat? Poppy Wise's sweet but unruly dog starts with Nico's accordion and works his way through the alphabet, making a nuisance of himself by leaving nothing untouched, not even glue sticks or Uncle Norman's underpants. Despite Pete's ravenous ways, a frazzled Poppy Wise can't help loving him. Kids will laugh at Pete's impossible cuisine, adults will appreciate the offbeat sense of humor, and both will love the artwork that perfectly captures the fun of the text in this unique alphabet book only Maira Kalman could create.

4 out of 5 stars One of my son's favorite books.......2005-12-18

Great book. I have read to my 3 year old son a hundred times, he loves it and it has letters from A-Z. Not your normal book for pre-schoolers because it's interesting for adults too. I am giving it for XMas gifts to nephews.

3 out of 5 stars What Pete Ate from A to Z.......2003-09-26

What Pete ate from A to Z was about little dog that liked to eat many things he shouldn't. Each time they tell you about a new thing he ate it starts with the next letter of the alphabet. Sometimes when they told you the thing he ate they would also tell you a little about what he was eating. Finally at the end of the book you find out the one thing Pete won't eat, but I'll let you find that out for yourselves. This book teaches kids about the Alphabet and also what things might be edible and what things are not edible, Morocco, the continent of Africa, what you do with money, and not to take other peoples things without asking them first. I recommend this book because it not only teaches you about the alphabet but about also about things that start with those letters. This book would be good for kids around the age of 3-5 yeas old.

5 out of 5 stars AS GOOD AS ALL HER OTHERS - WHICH IS GREAT!.......2003-07-12

Maira Kalman does it again. She has written a book that I (as a godmother) love to read over and over to my god-daughter who loves to hear it again and again. Everytime we read it, we find something new to say about it and talk about. This writer is so original and charming and even, sophisticated. Her style is very conversational and really creative. She is a perfect companion to see the world with... New York's Grand Central Station, India, Paris and even Hollywood (from her Max series). The children that I read this book to respond to her curious and playful nature. She doesn't pander to kids but challenges them and invites them into her original and artistic world.

5 out of 5 stars The Amazing, Alphabetical Pete...........2001-11-21

Meet Poppy Wise and her dog Pete. When it comes to eating, Pete is far from discriminating. If fact, he'll eat just about anything. So Poppy begins at the beginning with the letter A and chronicles exactly what this ever-hungry canine has gotten into. Moving letter by letter this includes Cousin Rocky's Accordion...All of it, a Camera, an Eggbeater, a Fez, and her brother's magic Key. At the Lucky dog show he ate all the Leashes which Let Loose all the dogs. A bit later he ate Mrs Parlsey's Pink Pocketbook, a Stinky Sneaker, Cousin Rocky's Underpants (Uggh!), and a Yo-yo. And as Poppy finally tells us, the only thing Pete won't eat is Zug Zug Dog Grub..... Maira Kalman has written a charming and hilarious walk through the alphabet that's full of unforgettable characters, wordplay, irreverent commentary, and witty asides. Both kids and adults will smile, giggle and eventually laugh out loud at the antics of four legged eating machine. Her delightful and energetic text is told in an easy to read, conversational style, and complemented by bold, bright and busy child-like artwork. Youngsters will enjoy poring over the pictures and finding all the silly details on each page. Perfect for kids 4-8, What Pete Ate From A-Z is a special, joyous romp, that makes a terrific gift, and is a wonderful addition to all home bookshelves.

    Book Description

This generous board book takes the two toddler puppies through the day, from waking up in the morning to going home from nursery school in the afternoon. Each page highlights objects and a narrative thread helps parents discuss the whole process of going to nursery school or daycare. Georg Hallensleben's characteristic bold paintings of Gaspard and Lisa feeding the fish in their classroom, building towers of ABC blocks, going up and down on the seesaw, painting, and going home after a busy day are irresistible.

My 3.5 year old daughter talked more about this book than any other in her pre-schools Family Reads program. While the book contains no text, the story is evident. My daughter saw things I didn't and interpreted the story very quickly. She loved it. I highly recommend this book.

      Book Description

One little, red rubber ball sits all alone while the rest of the world seems to go on about its business. Bees buzz, birds fly, squirrels hoard, but no one pays the little toy any lasting attention. At least, not at first.

Lee Bennett Hopkins Award winner Constance Levy has created subtle, infectious verse that tells the story of a small thing that makes a big difference. Hiroe Nakata paints a bustling world where animals play, the sun rises and sets, and children make friends. Rich with colorful characters and detail, The Story of Red Rubber Ball is a surprising--and charming--backyard adventure.

5 out of 5 stars An instant favorite.......2007-04-04

I recently signed out three children's books from my local library, and my
nearly-three-year-old daughter requested that I read this particular book to her over and over again. Since I returned it to the library, she has asked for it. Therefore I am now purchasing this book. Why this book? I think the story of the ball being apparently abandoned but then taken in by a dog in the end "to keep" is very comforting. Everything that happens in between is simple and sweet, my daughter has memorized much of the story. I haven't become sick of reading it to her either!

      5 out of 5 stars A Little Gem.......2004-05-21

This charming little story engages young minds with a fervor reminiscent of my own recollections of "Where the Wild Things Are" and "The Little Brute Family." A brief, compact little masterpiece, "The Story of Red Rubber Ball" should thrust Ms. Levy into a class of children's authors alongside Maurice Sendak, Lillian Moore, Russell Hoban and Shel Silverstein. The writing is crisp, with no wasted words, and is infused with Ms. Levy's trademark use of alliteration and clever rhyme (never forced). My 3-year old daughter adores this book, and so will any other child lucky enough to have it.
