The best imaging anatomy texts - bar none!.......2007-09-22
This series of anatomy texts has no peer. Each section outlines the key facts, presents superbly executed graphics in explanation, then proceeds to meticulously demonstrate the fine details and subtleties of imaging anatomy using well-labelled and captioned images from every imaging modality ---from plain radiographs through ultrasound, CT, MR, scintigraphy, and even PET.
Admittedly the three volumes will set you back nearly a $1,000 if you get the e-book option (very worthwhile to avoid lugging the set back and forth from home to work), but nothing else comes close to such completeness and quality.

Book Description
Pastor Rick Warren's The Purpose-Driven Life has been both a commercially successful best seller and a widely influential book in the Christian community. As a rejoinder to the fundamentalist assumptions of Warren's book, Robert Price, a biblical scholar, a member of the Jesus Seminar, and a former liberal Baptist pastor, offers this witty, thoughtful, and detailed critique. Following the concise forty-chapter structure of Warren's book, Price's point-counterpoint approach emphasizes the importance of reason in understanding life's realities as opposed to Warren's devotional perspective. Price, who was once a born-again Christian in his youth, is in a unique position to offer an appreciation of the wisdom that Warren shares while at the same time challenging many of his main points. In particular, Price takes issue with Warren's use of numerous scriptural quotations, demonstrating how many of them have little to do with the points Warren is trying to make. An important section of the book shows that the popular evangelical notion of "a personal relationship with Jesus Christ" is utterly without any scriptural basis. Besides criticism, Price also provides many persuasive arguments for the use of reason as a tool for developing moral maturity and an intelligent, realistic perspective on life's highs and lows. Ultimately, the reason-driven life offers a healthier, alternative approach to wisdom and motivation, says Price, than the simplistic answers and feel-good emotionalism at the heart of Warren's prescription for life.
Customer Reviews:
A well reasoned response........2007-08-24
I will admit I came to this book already in agreement with much of what the author had to say. I have listened to the Bible Geek podcast by Dr. Price. The presentation was one of limited rancor and well reasoned. I have already recommended this book to some teenagers who had received "The purpose drive life" as a birthday gift.
Is it OK not to be a religious whacko?.......2007-08-14
This book really answers the question: "Is it OK not to be a religious whacko". The multitudes of people that have inherited going to church from their parents can break with clear conscience the habit. No longer do you have to sit in church, or feel guilty about skipping, when you are only there to pacify someone else's expectations.
It is the semi-religious moderates that facilitate the whackos. Their kinda-faith creates the space for the nutcase to hide from closer scrutiny. This book is the key to setting the masses of semi-religious moderates free, and also what will expose the fundamentalist whackos for what they really are.
The world is going to be a better place for everyone, and this book will be part of the reason why. Read it!
The No Reason Life.......2007-05-18
I must admit when I picked up this book, I did not read anything about it. I usually read reviews and such from your readers. I don't go by the advice entirely as I do read many unusual books that many people would not be interested in.
When I picked this book up it was because the cover looked very much like the book Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren which was a very good book that I have given as a gift several times. I do think this is exactly what Robert Price had in mind to help him sell his book. Right from the start I knew this was not a book I would put my time into because I do believe the Bible is The Word of God. Here is a quote from this book that will I think say all that is necessary...."Let me explain the two other factors I mentioned that cast severe doubt on Warren's approach. My second ground for hesitation is that one can by no means take for granted that any particular book, much less the Protestant Bible, is a set of truths revealed by God. Few will deny (certainly I will not) that the Bible is a repository of ageless wisdom. But that is a very different thing from making the Bible as a whole and in every part a communication of propositions from God........."
I think this says enough and you only have to go to page 26 four pages into the book.
An Entirely Different Animal.......2007-04-27
I just picked this up at the library. I am neither a fundamentalist nor an evangelical, nor have I read Rich Warren's book.
The thing that gets me is that these people (the author and endorsers) associate themselves with Christianity, while they are really preaching atheistic secular humanism. It strikes me that the appropriate label for them from the scriptures would be "wolves in sheep's clothing" and "... in the tradition of the antichrist".
Clarifying.......2007-04-01
This wonderful book presents a clarifying overview of the weaknesses of the fundamentalist view of life. Price touches on many major religious and philosophical concepts. His stance is respectful of religion, though probably not so much toward Pastor Warren. In my opinion, this book is an excellent read for the sincere seeker.

Book Description
Does every second wife look like Julia Roberts? Lu Kleincertainly doesn't, and her life is anything but glamorous. When she marrieda man with children, Lu had no idea that she was also marrying his shrewishex-wife, Beatrix. And Beatrix had no idea that making a new home with hersecond husband would mean welcoming her wicked teenage stepdaughter, Liv.And Liv's mother Roxie had no idea that so many new and exciting boyfriendscould make her long for the stable life she and her ex had too eagerly leftbehind. In this tightly interconnected collection of ten short stories, authorLaura Ruby chronicles the progress of Lu, Beatrix, Roxie and their varioussteps and exes as they take the perilous plunge into the maelstrom of theso-called "blended family." Both ruefully funny and wickedly insightful,I'M NOT JULIA ROBERTS offers finely-observed, honest and affecting takes onkids, stepkids, divorce, remarriage...and the movie Stepmom.
Customer Reviews:
Don't buy, this is a library book.......2007-09-04
Not one you would read again. A lot of writers can blend multiple storylines together nicely, this is an exception. Too confusing and while realistic, nothing new. Save your pennies.
My Opinion - "I'm Not Julia Roberts".......2007-03-23
As several previous reviewers have done a masterful job of it, I will not attempt to summarize "I'm Not Julia Roberts". Rather, I will just say what I told the author in an email to her after I finished the book (in just a little more than 24 hours). I loved it. It was a deeply satisfying read in all the ways that I consider a book satisfying. I love Ruby's writing style and voice. It's a well-crafted, brilliantly told and highly engaging story - not an easy accomplishment given the complicated ties among all the families. Her insight into the complexities of relationships across multiple age-groups and genders rings true. She nails them all with great accuracy, humor and compassion. Wonderful book!
My New Best Friend Lu.......2007-03-11
I was hooked on "I'm Not Julia Roberts" the minute I read the jacket cover: "...the bio mom gets cancer and DIES in that idiotic movie ('Stepmom'). Who here is going to get that lucky?" Did she really write that? I want more!
And Laura Ruby delivers. Her characters are funny, sarcastic, bitchy and touching, each flawed and totally human. I couldn't get enough of the new stepmother Lu Klein, seemingly in over her head, who speaks with humor , honesty and wit. Beatrix, the bio-mom, whom we should hate out of loyalty to our new best friend Lu, gets a fair shake with her own story of trying to cope the best that she can. Laura Ruby's clever, unique and honest writing made me think, made me feel and best of all, made me laugh out loud.
Are those my kids talking?.......2007-02-25
The children and teenagers in Ruby's book speak with voices we've all overheard in malls, complaining, in fast food kiosks, complaining, and at school functions, complaining. They are the voices of other people's children, sometimes the voices of our own, and they are so real we are shocked that someone, Laura Ruby, has finally heard them and recorded them in her book. Because we've never read dialog like Ruby's before. Children in books are too often furniture in the backdrop, unlikely little mutated monsters of the author's imagination, bearing no resemblance to those very real children we deal with every day.
To read Ruby's dialog and to enjoy her amusing prose are the reasons to enjoy her. Her book is more of a collection of short stories loosely bound together than a novel. Each of her characters is so complete and idiosyncratic that you regret when Ruby hip-hops to another. Read each chapter as if you are reading one short story, and your enjoyment will increase. Ruby is bitingly funny as she deals with the confusing disaster of divorce and remarriage, and how it affects children as well as parents over years of coping and ugly compromise. The book does have a sort of a happy ending. The children grow up.
I'm Not Julia Roberts.......2007-02-22
Intrigued by the title, I nevertheless found the book mundane. The main character is exceedingly sorry for herself and the author was not convincing in portraying the husband as somebody worth marrying. Most of the characters were stereotypical. I could not recommend this book.

Book Description
In our modern dislocated society many are searching for a church experience that offers true Christian sharing, nurturing, and discipleship, in addition to teaching and worship. For many such people the answer is found in the home church: a small, committed group of often diverse people who meet together in homes to pray, eat, sing, study, and share their lives.
The Church Comes Home is a handbook for those interested in home churches. It is both visionary and practical. It describes how home churches can be formed, how they should grow, and how networks of home churches can develop. It examines issues-for example, how to make decisions; how to determine doctrine; how to include children, singles, elders; and how to reach out to the community at large-and offers practical suggestions for their resolution.
Customer Reviews:
Good ideas, unnecessarily limited perspective.......2006-02-09
In general, I would credit the authors with doing a remarkable job of describing the need for committed relationships within the church for it to function as Christ intended. And the greatest strength of the book is the stories that they tell to share with us the successes and struggles that various house churches have experienced over many years. Those stories are very real and express the significant growth and value of house churches.
My problem with this book is the notion that house churches are the only place for real relationships to develop. The caricature that they portray of small groups in more traditional churches is full of generalizations and simplifications. They have chosen the worst of small groups and shown them to be the norm. If I were to choose between the small groups described in this book and a house church, I would also think that house churches are the only way to go.
However, small groups have the potential, when done well, to offer significant vitality in the life of a traditional church. Quality small groups, led by capable leaders, can retain many of the wonderful attributes that the authors describe from house churches. And there are many wonderful benefits from a traditional church that are totally lost within the framework of house churches. These attributes of contemporary church life are totally and inappropriately discarded as useless.
Ultimately, I think that the authors fall short by assuming the primacy of their approach. Though I am pleased to learn how God is working through house churches to minister to so many people, I do not appreciate (or agree with) the suggestion that this model needs to ultimately replace traditional church life.
I intend to utilize some key insights that I garnered from this book to implement them within the context of our small groups. And I will continue to thank the Lord for blessing me with an awesome church family, which allows me opportunities to connect and serve with people at our house within our small group but in so many other life-giving and transformational ways!!
Insights Into House Churches.......2001-08-25
I read this book along with Frank Viola's book "Rethinking The Wineskins" and I found this book to be a bit more easier to follow and more practical. While Viola's book seem to have an heir about it that said "I'm ticked off at the established church and here is why" this book simply offers the reader a candid look at the New Testament model of house churches and how the Bank's are seeking to follow the NT pattern. Bank's is a scholar. You will find in this book a man who loves God, loves people, and teaches the truth of Scripture clearly. If you have read books on house churches and have walked away with a bit of skepticism (as I have at times) than buy this book and you will find that Bank's is truly a brother in Christ who only desires to be like Jesus.
Critical questions about the nature of the church.......2000-08-09
A practical survey of the house church movement. Without bitterness toward traditional models of church, Banks introduces a refreshing model for the household of faith which has its roots in the first century. It is a radical concept for many American Christians because it stands in such stark contrast with the more individualistic, consumer driven model for church which has taken center stage in Western Culture.
Great Basic Information About House Church.......1999-10-27
Robert and Julia shared from experience when they wrote this book. It is so refreshing to read a book that is about real life, rather than just the theory and doctrine of how house church ought to be. The various testimonies are really insightful.
If you are contemplating leaving the institutionalized church, this book would be a good place to start your journey toward relational fellowship in the home setting.

Book Description
A central goal of transportation is the delivery of safe and efficient services with minimal environmental impact. In practice, though, human mobility has flourished while nature has suffered. Awareness of the environmental impacts of roads is increasing, yet information remains scarce for those interested in studying, understanding, or minimizing the ecological effects of roads and vehicles.
Road Ecology addresses that shortcoming by elevating previously localized and fragmented knowledge into a broad and inclusive framework for understanding and developing solutions. The book brings together fourteen leading ecologists and transportation experts to articulate state-of-the-science road ecology principles, and presents specific examples that demonstrate the application of those principles. Diverse theories, concepts, and models in the new field of road ecology are integrated to establish a coherent framework for transportation policy, planning, and projects. Topics examined include:
- foundations of road ecology
- roads, vehicles, and transportation planning
- vegetation and roadsides
- wildlife populations and mitigation
- water, sediment, and chemical flows
- aquatic ecosystems
- wind, noise, and atmospheric effects
- road networks and landscape fragmentation
Road Ecology links ecological theories and concepts with transportation planning, engineering, and travel behavior. With more than 100 illustrations and examples from around the world, it is an indispensable and pioneering work for anyone involved with transportation, including practitioners and planners in state and province transportation departments, federal agencies, and nongovernmental organizations. The book also opens up an important new research frontier for ecologists.

Book Description
Lucky Hart loves Christmas. She loves making garlands and wreaths, baking spice cookies, and deciding on just the right presents for her family and friends. This Christmas, Lucky is also excited about singing in front of all the people of Cobtown. But the festivities take an unexpected turn. A lost blind man, lonely and far from home, arrives speaking "gibberish" no one understands...the pump organ breaks...a sick dog is found and Lucky and Oinkey the pig tend to him.
Saddened by these events, Lucky wonders what kind of holiday it will be. Little does she suspect that the town's annual Christmas Eve party will bring a bounty of surprises to fill her heart--and the hearts of everyone in Cobtown--with the joy, magic, and music of the Christmas season.
Customer Reviews:
Cobtown Christmas Is Great.......2006-12-14
I am a 9-year-old boy (mom is typing) and I thought this book was excellent. It's about a little girl who meets a guy named Fritz Klingle, who is looking for his dog named jingle. It's a very good Christmas book.
A Cobtown Christmas.......1999-12-11
A great granddaughter discovers a family diary from 1845. The story of a special Christmas in Cobtown unfolds. Art is a cartoon-like character with excellent illustrations in lively colors. A great read - includes receipes for dog soup! I highly recommend this family type, holiday book for students from K through 5 grades.
An instant classic.......1998-10-17
The Van Nutts bring us instantly back to a lost era full of magic. Somehow they have mastered the art of historical accuracy without boredom or cheesiness- something so few artists can do. The drawings have all the skill of Van Allsburg but more warmth and depth for their genuineness, while the text makes you long to search through your grandmother's closet in search of hidden treasures. It's an instant classic and a must-have for someone who takes kid's books seriously.

Book Description
In the last fifteen years, the Mandelbrot set has emerged as one of the most recognizable objects in mathematics. While there is no question of its beauty, relatively few people appreciate the fact that the mathematics behind such images is equally beautiful. This book presents lectures delivered during the AMS Short Course entitled "Complex Dynamical Systems: The Mathematics Behind the Mandelbrot and Julia Sets", held at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Cincinnati in January 1994. The lectures cover a wide range of topics, including the classical work of Julia and Fatou on local dynamics of analytic maps as well as recent work on the dynamics of quadratic and cubic polynomials, the geometry of Julia sets, and the structure of various parameter spaces. Among the other topics are recent results on Yoccoz puzzles and tableaux, limiting dynamics near parabolic points, the spider algorithm, extensions of the theory to rational maps, Newton's method, and entire transcendental functions. Much of the book is accessible to anyone with a background in the basics of dynamical systems and complex analysis.
