Cheap and Easy.......2007-08-23
This book came in a good condition within a decent amount of time. It was way cheaper than other stores/sites. Cheap and easy is what I like, so this book was a great buy for me. Kudos to the seller: I'd shop again with them anytime!
Mixed-media delight.......2007-06-27
This is a great book and a wonderful journey into the world of mixed media. I loved the section on how to alter real photos!
Beautiful images.......2007-05-27
This book has many wonderful pictures and lists the items need to use for the effects but the instructions are not specific enough for a beginner to dive right in if they are not familiar with certain products. I find myself looking through for techniques that I have not used and really wish that several of the projects were a bit more specific. Overall I really love the book but could see that it could be overwelming for someone who is shy from trying new things.
wonderful.......2007-03-25
in my job as graphic designer I often get stuck in a certain way or ideas of a design and this book just popped me into a totally new way of thinking and giving me a ton of fresh ideas
Great Image Transfer Reference.......2007-02-03
I checked this book out from the library twice, and liked it so much I decided to buy it. My favorite feature: the book explains many methods to use for image transfers from copier, inkjet, and other image sources. It also has tons of full-color examples. I don't particularly care for the author's style of art, but the varied ideas, as well as the gallery of other artists' work, make up for it.

Book Description
With the 40 fabulous projects in this eye-opening manual and the revolutionary new forms of transfer paper on the market, such as Lazertran, it’s possible to reproduce any design on a wide variety of surfaces effortlessly. The basic technique couldn’t be easier. Simply photocopy an image onto the paper, soak it for a minute, and the picture slides off as a transparent decal. Adhere it to nonporous surfaces such as metal, plastic, or fabric using the adhesive on the back of the film. Embellish a metal cocktail shaker and matching ice bucket with a retro 50’s design, scatter coffee beans on an espresso cup, or put playful sheep on a child’s pillow. It’s creative fun, and an inspiring start to a great new craft.

Problems with Instructions.......2007-06-04
I was really looking forward to learning how to use my own custom decals to decorate plates similar to those on the book's cover; unfortunately, I discovered what I can only assume is an error, possibly a misprint, in the instructions for baking decals onto ceramics. After soaking the decal in water, the book instructs you to place the transfer 'face up' on the object. In fact Lazertran's own web site and various arts/crafts sites on the Internet state just the opposite - the image should be placed face down. Yes, face down. (You would have printed the image in reverse if text was involved.) After removing the paper backing, the glue should then be washed off completely before beginning the baking process.
I had to toss the old cachepot I used as my experimental project, which was okay since I chose it with the knowledge that it was my first attempt and if something went wrong, it wouldn't be that big a deal. The author did mention that the glue would turn brown in the baking process but I assumed that meant what glue may have gotten squished out around the edges of the transfer or inadvertently smeared onto the object during application.
Aside from the above, the book was not bad - but not great either. It was just mediocre. The designs, most of which were copyright-free images culled from the Internet or simply the author's own photographs, were not what I would consider particularly inspirational or awe inspiring.
I wish I could recommend the book for instructional purposes but I can't do that due to the problems I ran into. Most of the techniques can be found on the Internet anyway, sans step-by-step photos.
A very FUN and HIP book!.......2006-06-08
The book is full of fun ideas as described in the Editorial Reviews. The artist brings transferring images to an entirely new level. The instructions are clear, product resources are listed and after learning the basics, the possibilities are endless.
I gladly learned from this book the proper way to use water slip decals. My process always bubbled .. so the price of the book was worth finding out the why and how to correct my way.
The book is packed full of 40 plus practical projects and the content is extremely educational while being fun. The photographs are gorgeous. Personalization will always be 'hip' therefore, I predict this book will stay 'hip' for many years to come.
Save your money.......2006-06-08
I was so disappointed in this book. I thought there would be multiple techniques (using gel medium, burning tools, etc) and thought it would be great to have a bunch of techniques in one book. I was sooooo wrong!
Basically, this book is just a huge advertisement for Lazertran products. EVERYTHING in this book requires some sort of product from Lazertran, which would be fine if it was titled "The Lazertran Book of Image Transferring". If you do buy the Lazertran products they come with instructions, so don't waste your money on this hardcover advertisement!
VERY cool projects!.......2005-01-31
FINALLY! I found something that is not only fun to do, but I actually can do it well! This book gives you full details on using your photos (or other images) to decorate vases, frames, candles and all kinds of things in your home. I've made some nice gifts which can be really easy with the techniques shown in the book. Great ideas, great instruction!
I like that she included clip art in the back of the book as well - I love projects like these but I'm not always the most imaginative person in the world. It's good to have ideas in front of me.
This is a great book!.......2004-05-04
This book tells you everything you need to know about making your own transfers. I especially love all of the introductory information. It's a resource that I can refer to again and again! And the projects are very clever and fun.

wegman yet again.......2004-09-18
Yes Wegman has many books about his dogs but this one is unlike most others, the 20X24 camera and what it can achieve is amazing. Wegman uses this camera to its fullest capturing his dogs in many amazing lights. A Wegman book all should own.
Photography finds its own Rocky.......2003-05-13
We are living in an age of sequels. From Star Wars and Matrix of Hollywood to the Gulf Wars, it is repetitions with the same premises and towards, dull or worst, tragic effect. Wegman's early work with his dog Man Ray captured everyone's imagination with its wit and sometimes thought provoking concepts. Wegman like his dogs also became a star, subject of documentaries and an advertising model for Gap clothing. Alas, there was no one to tell this talented artist when to stop, and from doing the children's fables to an episode of Hardy Boys adventure, Wegman's canine companions have found more newer uses including featuring as various alphabets in books for nursery children as well as in between graduate courses offerings in a New School for Social Research catalog.
Like Sylvester Stallone's Rocky that raided the Oscars cupboard in the 1970s, only to milk the concept dry (Mr. Stallone is reportedly scripting another edition), Mr. Wegman has chosen to risk doing the same with his canine models. His latest offering is getting into another commercial territory besides that of prequels and sequels -- the "Making of ___" (for a hit movie) or the "outtakes" or "Alternative Takes" (for a well known but dead musician). Whether Wegman is the Hendrix of Photography or revisiting Man Ray's polaroids is like "the Making of Citizen Kane" is something debatable. What is however more certain is that despite the high levels of literacy that permeates photographic art and the fact that photography doesn't have to pander to the lowest common denominator like most other art forms, it cannot escape the trends in the market place. Trends driven, not by artists but accountants and following the cold logic of prequels, sequels, outtakes and alternative tracks. Whether Wegman will soon be getting his canine models to reinterpret the boy scouts manual or move from the Hardy Boys to Nancy Drew adventures, is there to see. But if this does happen, remember you read it here first.

Excellent Tutorial.......2006-09-07
This is a great book- full of artistic pieces and knowledge on how to recreate your own work! I wanted this book for a long time, found it on Amazon and paid a fraction of what I would have paid in the store!
Timeless Information.......2006-03-17
Though this book was published clear back in 1997, the information is timeless. I tend to shy away from older how-to books, but this is a great book to add to your art and craft library. I wish all how-to books were this thorough and informative. You get your money's worth here.
The only book on this you will ever need!.......2005-12-15
I've been wanting both of her books for awhile now and I finally splurged and got both of them (the Polaroid Manipulations book that concentrates on the SX-70 manip process).
When I first flipped through this book I was blown away and amazed by the content. This book is the number one resource for helping you along with your Polaroid transfers and emulsion lifts. It is HIGHLY informative. The author guides you step by step and even provides some background information on how the processed were discovered. She also offers a lot of inspirational material in an advanced techniques section of the book. At the end of the book there are artist galleries with drop-dead-gorgeous work!
I recommend this book highly to anyone who wants to get into the alternative processes with the Polaroid medium. Don't hesitate... get a copy today!

Book Description
An elegiac collection of sixty Polaroid photographs by the late Soviet film director Andrei Tarkovsky.
"Tarkovsky often reflected on the way that time flies and wanted to stop it, even with these quick Polaroid shots. The melancholy of seeing things for the last time is the highly mysterious and poetic essence that these images leave with us. It is as though Andrei wanted to transmit his own enjoyment quickly to others. And they feel like a fond farewell."Tonino Guerra, from the Introduction
This beautifully produced book comprises sixty Polaroid photographs of Andrei Tarkovsky's friends and family, taken between 1979 and 1984 in his native Russia and in Italy, where he spent time in political exile. The size of the Polaroids is exactly as presented in the book, including the frame. The book may therefore be viewed as a facsimile edition. 60 color illustrations.

Nostalgic, Evocative Images: Tarovsky's Polaroids.......2006-07-27
Tarovsky's polaroid photos, many of them landscapes, are evocative and nostalgic, while exhibiting a style of composition that is fresh, inventive, and thoughtful. He manages all this without the need for costly equipment, using only inexpensive polaroid cameras. The photos made me feel as though I had been there and seen his subjects for myself--although I've never been to Russia. Or perhaps Tarovsky's images simply have the power to evoke nostalgic longings in us, without being able to identify where they come from.
Highly recommended.
so so purchase.......2006-07-19
lots of religious references in the text. the pictures were fairly satisfying. was not the greatest gift i've ever given someone.
treasure.......2006-05-12
Ingmar Bergman is quoted as saying that '..for me, Tarkovsky is the greatest filmmaker' -- not bad, considering that the source is numbered among the most respected directors in the history of cinema. Tarkovsky made a 'scant' 7 films over the course of his career -- but each one of them is outstanding. His philosophy of art and spirituality pervades all of his work -- including the incredible photographs reproduced in this thoughtfully assembled, lovingly printed volume.
Tarkovsky's son, along with Tonino Guerro (a close friend and collaborator of the filmmaker) and Giovanni Chiaramonte (a wonderful Italian photographer whose comments at the end of the book show that he shared a great deal of Tarkovsky's spirit and concerns) have put together this collection -- and I have no doubt that it will not only be treasured by those who are already admirers of the director, but that it will serve as a fitting introduction to those who have as yet missed out on him.
The strength, depth of spirituality, transcendent beauty and wisdom contained in and conveyed by the images and thoughts here are timeless. One of the driving forces in Tarkovsky's work was to 'stop time' so that the viewer might better understand not only the events depicted in his images, but also, upon reflection, better view his own soul, personality and place in the scheme of things. There are many photographs in this book that have that very time-stopping effect.
This is a collection that I will treasure -- I can't recommend it highly enough.
Polaroids From One Of The Greatest Filmmakers To Have Lived.......2006-03-18
If anyone remembers polaroid pictures from back in the day, it's truly amazing that Tarkovsky captured the beautiful & haunting images he did. This collection gives the world a postmortem gift from one of the most important filmmakers/artists that has ever graced this earth. We should all give thanks to his son, Andrey A. Tarkovsky, for publishing this collection of pictures and letting us all see these images of mysterious and poetic beauty.

Fantastic Find.......2006-09-07
This book is awesome! I wanted to purchase it at a major chain and decided to look here instead. I got 4 books for the price of one! I highly reccomend this if you are interested in excelling at your transfer techniques.
The only book on this you will ever need!.......2005-12-15
I've been wanting both of her books for awhile now and I finally splurged and got them both. When I first flipped through this book I was blown away and amazed by the content. This book is the number one resource for helping you along with your Polaroid SX-70 manipulations. She also provides some brief information on transfers and emulsion lifts (If you want to know more you should invest in a copy of her other book "Polaroid Transfers". It is HIGHLY informative. The author guides you step by step and even provides some background information on how the processes were discovered. She also offers a lot of inspirational material in an advanced techniques section of the book. At the end of the book there are artist galleries with drop-dead-gorgeous work!
I especially find the handcoloring section of this book to be very helpful. I wasn't really aware that I could add some color to my SX-70 manips. She goes in-depth about each medium that can be used to enhance the color (Prismacolor markers, watercolors, pastels, etc.) She also provides some useful information on how to enhance the Polaroids digitally in Photoshop.
I recommend this book highly to anyone who wants to get into the alternative processes with the Polaroid medium. Don't hesitate... get a copy today!
A Great Resourse for all SX-70 Manipulators!.......2005-10-26
I have been doing SX-70 manipulations for about 4 years and to this point have been totally self taught. I have looked at some galleries online and had previously wondered how some people were able to achieve such vibrant colors with their work, had their lines squiggle to such a great extent, etc. I now have the answers to all my questions. I am so grateful to Kathleen for writing this book (thank you!).
There is so much valuable information in this book that I know I will be using it to expand my skills and experiment with new ideas for years to come. If you are a new or seasoned manipulator, this book is a MUST HAVE! 5 Stars!!!

I'll be quick to the point.......2005-08-16
This is the best book on Polaroid manipulation techniques that I have found.
I can't wait to try some of Carr's Ideas.......2003-03-29
I've just recently become interested in Polaroid manipulations and transfers. I can't imagine a better book on the subject.
Carr covers all the technical details including a review of every Polaroid Daylab slide printer ever made -- with step-by-step, illustrated instructions. She also covers a TON of creative techniques to get the juices flowing. Lot's of full-color pictures of these different techniques makes it fun to just flip throught the book to see the art.
I also like the way she uses Photoshop to supplement her manually manipulated images. Lots of just-technical-enough ideas in the Photoshop chapters.
I highly recommend this book.
Product Description
There are photographs, and then there are Polaroids. This hardbound beauty is stuffed with 100+ specimens and curiosities from the Polaroid age, when gratification was as instant as the digital camera but far easier to lose. It's filled with an incredible collection of photos - some of them very funny, others strangely moving and affecting.

Very disappointed.......2007-09-22
I feel really ripped off. I thought this book would be more like the other "Found" titles. Instead, it has one picture every other page - with only the briefest captions. Too little for way too much!

Customer Reviews:
The not instant story of instant photography.......2007-01-27
Across America and the developed world the name Polaroid remains familiar. Over a certain age the product identification of Polaroid Land Camera has recognition. But among that older group, probably not one in ten will know that the Land part of the product name was the name of the man who invented the cameras. More to the point, the man who envisioned the concept of instant photography and worked for decades to invent instant film. Who founded a company during the Depression unlike any other in America. Who was second only to Edison in the number of patents he held. Who was a true American icon.
Edwin Land played a large part in his own anonymity. He valued his individual privacy only slightly less than his family's, about which he was adamant. He sought the limelight, or at least accepted it, only to promote his inventions at crucial moments.
Peter Wensberg tells this sometimes technical story with the skill of a novelist, with a structure that evokes from the reader a genuine excitement about a man who not so much discovered the future as he did imagine it, and then invented it. Wensberg compellingly gets us inside Land, to whatever extent that was possible, to illustrate a true genius driven to go forward, leaving behind the beaten path, or indeed any path at all.
In Land we see the familiar pattern of genius, of people like Linus Pauling or Richard Feynman - an early identification of their quest, a self confidence both underlying and overriding, and the implicit knowledge that the quest will not be had within convention. Just as important, Wensberg gives an account of Land's technology that illustrates the decades of hard work that go into the consumer technologies we take for granted.
Land, though often reticent and inaccessible, inspired men, and very early on women. He caused people to leave good jobs for the opportunity to work for his unique company. He got from people far more than they thought they could give, and often in an astonishingly short time.
Land pioneered fair wages and equal treatment at a time when people would take any job at any pay under any conditions. His defense work in World War II saved countless lives. He committed his company to diversity long before that notion reached a level of political necessity.
This is a story about an American at his best.

Customer Reviews:
Lingering and disturbing.......2004-08-13
Mark Ravenhill, in the '90s, was one of the playwrights responsible for re-invigorating English, if not British, drama in what became known as in-yer-face theatre. These are not your average "let's talk about our relationship" plays, but try to enter the heart of what it is to live in the post-cold war world of economics and super-mediation. Some of the plays upon first reading may disappoint with a kind of elusiveness combined with superficial shock - but try again. On the stage as well as on the page these plays chisel away at our certainties and begin to help us understand the nature of humanity in recent times.
