Book Description
Adam and Eve, God's covenant with Abraham, the deportation of Judah and their eventual return to Jerusalem--these are the Old Testament stories most people remember, and for good reason. According to veteran Old Testament professor Victor Matthews, these stories are essential to the identity of Israel as God's people. Matthews identifies eight landmark stories that not only shaped Israelite identity but also continued to echo throughout the Old Testament as Israel grew into its role as the people of God. He examines the stories in detail, showing how they provide a foundation for later Old Testament stories and events. Helpful sidebars, a glossary, indexes, and a selected bibliography provide readers with tools for further exploration. This book will be of interest to serious lay readers, Bible students, and church leaders.

Remembering the Cross!.......2007-01-12
Somehow along the way in wanting to "appeal" to everyone and not wanting to offend anyone we forgot the words "sin" and "cross". John brings back what we have been missing.
New Light.......2005-08-03
The book is written in logical format and the material is very inspireing. I have never worn a Cross around my neck I am now in the market to by one.
Provides concrete Bible-based steps for Christian living.......2001-05-19
With On A Hill Too Far Away: Putting The Cross Back Into The Center Of Our Lives, John Fischer explores the centrality of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ to the Christian faith. Drawing upon the image of a 15-foot cross bolted front and center inside a Connecticut church, Fischer provides concrete Bible-based steps for Christian living. Other very highly recommended Fischer titles for a Christian readership include Ashes On The Wind; Saint Ben; The Saints' And Angels' Song; 12 Steps For The Recovering Pharisee; and True Believers Don't Ask Why.

Book Description
When she was about to turn five, a little girl named Rae Hansen invited Richard Bach to her birthday party. Though deserts, storms, mountains, and a thousand miles separated them, Rae was confident that her friend would appear. There's No Such Place As Far Away chronicles the exhilarating spiritual journey that delivered Rae's anxiously awaited guest to her side on that special day--and tells of the powerful and enduring gift that would keep him forever close to her heart.
Written with the same elegant simplicity that made Jonathan Livingston Seagull a bestselling phenomenon, There's No Such Place As Far Away has touched the hearts of thousands of readers since its first publication in 1979. Richard Bach's inspiring, now-classic tale is a profound reminder that miles cannot truly separate us from friends...that those we love are always with us--every moment of the infinite celebration we call life.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful book and story to match.......2007-08-13
Drawn in by H. Lee Shapiro's artwork and Richard Bach's writing, this book holds a special place in my heart. I came across it after I moved away from "home", and since then it has become a meaningful and inspiring gift for friends who live long distances away.
Very good book.......2007-02-12
It's always a pleasure to read and read again this book, and share it with friends
Another gem!.......2007-01-16
No matter how lost I am Richard Bach always takes me back to my personal truth, to my own personal reality. He's always a sweetheart and he always makes me cry. This book is an incredibly simple reminder of an incredibly simple truth we forget most of the time. The watercolors that accompany it are magnificent and convey an uncanny visual feeling of how I feel when I read Richard's books. If you have any inkling of what Bach is all about---as far as that's anywhere near possible---then add this book to your heart.
Mystical, touches the soul.......2007-01-03
I have had this book for over 20 years. It has been one of my best loved books for all those years. I recently purchased it for my daughter who left for college and a friend for her birthday. My daughter and friend both wept and said it was perfect for them. It is inspiring each time I read it.
Not a book, but more like a magazine.......2006-08-31
This was like a kid's first reader for adults. Only about 20 pages, and definately not worth more than a dollar or two.
It should be marked more clearly that it's not really a "book".
I was very disappointed.

Book Description
This final volume of Star Wars: A Long Time Ago... features classic Star Wars stories previously out of print and hard to find for nearly two decades! Far, Far Away collects issues 96 to 107 of the original series, taking place after the classic Star Wars trilogy, as our beloved Star Wars heroes continue to fight the remaining Imperial Forces and new evils following the Battle of Endor. "Supply and Demand" is a gem of a story, with comics legends Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson whisking Han Solo and co-pilot Nien Nunb off on a mission to a former Imperial prison planet. Jo Duffy and Sal Buscema offer an excellent underwater adventure in "School Spirit!" as Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian return to the water-planet Iskalon and are reunited with old allies.
Customer Reviews:
Final Entry of the Classic Marvel Star Wars Comic Series.......2005-12-20
Excellent final entry covers the end of the Rebellion and the birth of the Alliance of Free Planets (the interim government that soon became the New Republic). But the transition to a new government is hardly a smooth one. Artist Cynthia Martin hits her stride as Jo Duffy gets full swing into the Nagai Invasion and the Alliance's greatest adversary, Lumiya! We are also introduced to an old friend of Han's, a complex character with a mysterious past named Bey, as well as the return of fan favorites Fenn Shysa (the Mandalorean Protector) and Kiro. But the Nagai may only be the tip of the iceberg as a new threat descends into the galaxy to hunt down the Nagai, and anyone else that stands in their way...
For those getting set to read the upcoming LEGACY era books (set in the final Star Wars age), Lumiya's origins are revealed in this volume (as well as in one other) as is her all-consuming hatred for Luke, the Alliance and the Jedi. Before Asajj, before Aurra Sing, there was Lumiya.
As with the previous issues (in volume 6), Duffy knows the importance of comic relief (as a counter to tragedy) in epic storytelling, and its evidenced here by the insectile Hiromi and Leia's four Zeltron bodyguards, precursor to other annoying bodyguards Leia would have in the Nogrhi and the Squibs. These stories capture the feel of Return of the Jedi and the Classic Trilogy in ways that no others have. Not unlike Jude Watson (Jedi Apprentice/Quest series), Duffy knows these characters inside and out, and also understands the dynamics of great space opera. And because she has taken the time to develop them with clever and interesting character arcs, so too do the side characters stand out as memorable additions to the saga: the Zeltron Dani and her bizarre relationship with her former torturer Den; the now sullen and insular Iskalonian Kiro; the jaded and ultra-loyal Nagai Knife.
The only unfortunate aspect to this story's conclusion is the fact that it was not intended to be the conclusion. Marvel sales of Star Wars were still going strong in the mid-eighties, but in 1985 Lucas wasn't sure what direction the franchise would go in, and as a result, Lucasfilm told Marvel to cease production of Star Wars comics. It was thus that Issue 107 was decided to be the final issue, but unfortunately, Jo Duffy wasn't apprised of that until very late in the game. Her story wasn't even close to conclusion, and in fact she had outlined an epic 12-part storyline detailing a fierce battle between the Alliance, Nagai and Tof, the return of Domina Tagge and a few other surprises! Sadly, it wasn't to be, and issue 107 is a less-than-satisfactory denouement as Duffy was forced to discard her plans in order to wrap up all the plot threads that were building towards something much greater into one single issue.
It was a sad time for Star Wars comics fans who deserved better. Star Wars returned in comic book form not long thereafter, but with hardly the same results. Marvel's kiddie line Star introduced both Droids and Ewoks comics to capitalize on the cartoons (and with similar results). Later, Blackthorne 3D got permission to do Star Wars (which they squandered with three subpar issues, one of which would now be considered Infinities). It wasn't until Dark Horse took the reign on the license and produced Dark Empire (initially intended to be released under Marvel's EPIC line) that Star Wars was truly relaunched in comic book form. And while excellent in its own right, the new more mature series released by Dark Horse since still don't quite manage the nostalgic feel of the old Star Wars under Jo Duffy, Archie Goodwin, David Michelinie and Chris Claremont's hands. In the 1970's and 80's Marvel had caught lightning in a bottle and thankfully in the new millenium Dark Horse has had the wisdom to bring it out from the darkness for new fans to enjoy and old fans to relive again...

Customer Reviews:
Oh My God..........2007-04-17
This manga was action and romance packed. It was the best series I could ever hope to fantatize about, and Ms. Hikawa wrote it.
In the last and final volume we see a mixture of romance with alot of action.
I recommend it with all my heart.
If you do buy it enjoy, It has a great ending that reduced me to tears.
Greetings From Far Away.......2007-03-05
I absolutely adore this series and the ending is just so hopeful and perfect. Izark and Noriko both grow in their love for each other and their acceptance of their role and destiny in the alternate world. Though this manga is not the most popular, it will still contain my absolute favorite heroine Noriko, who is so simply ordinary and human that you cannot help but love her. She is not a Mary Sue either because Noriko knows she has limitations, but she pushes on despite those limitations. I am almost sad that the series has ended but the journey was so good and the conclusion is so wonderful, you just can't help but be happy about this series' excellent closing.
From Far Away 14.......2007-02-07
This is a great book because it is the last one in the series and the ending is sooo perfect. I hope you like this book as much as I did.

Customer Reviews:
A Thoroughly Enjoyable Historical Overview of a Neglected Chinese City.......2007-04-18
Guangzhou, or Canton as it has been called for centuries, suffers in the popularity race that favors Western language books about Shanghai and Beijing. Ms. Garrett has addressed this shortcoming in her book Heaven is High and the Emperor Far Away. The book presents a historical and cultural overview of a city that has been at the cross roads of trade, commerce and diplomacy between the Middle Kingdom and the outside world since the Han dynasty. Her book brings to life the flavour of Old Canton as an outpost for European traders from the era of the Co-hong trade to the "Canton Trade Fairs" of the People's Republic. In the course of her book, Ms. Garrett provides us with many insightful glimpses into the prior identity of neighborhoods, temples and streets of Guangzhou. It is both useful for the armchair reader and the urban explorer who wants to experience more deeply a city typically slighted in most guide books. The book is lavishly illustrated and is a valuable addition to anyone's library about Old China.

Book Description
Owen is seventeen and smart. He knows what he wants to do with his life. But then he meets Natalie and he realizes he doesn't know anything much at all.
A slender, realistic story of a young man's coming of age, Very Far Away from Anywhere Else is one of the most inspiring novels Ursula K. Le Guin has ever published.
Customer Reviews:
Possibly my favorite book of all time.......2006-02-03
I first read this novella when I was in high school. I've read it several times since. It's just one I always come back to. The story speaks to everyone who has ever felt excluded or misunderstood and it speaks to the yearning in each of us to find SOMEONE who understands just a little bit. In some ways, this is a romance, but really it's a story of finding a connection in the wide world. And it always makes me cry... but in a good way.
I've read hundreds, perhaps thousands of books in my life and I'm sure I'll read thousands more, but this one has a special place in my heart.
Worth reading at any age!.......2005-11-15
This short novel speaks volumes to anyone who has ever felt different, not quite fitting in, but afraid to truly break away from the herd. Owen's doubts, fears and deep longing to be his own person are all too familiar and honest; his struggle toward real manhood, as opposed to the shallow, self-absorbed macho model of his peers, is even more relevant today.
Natalie's determination to create and follow her own path is inspiring, never denying the hard work and sacrifice required, but never denying its joys, either.
Together, theirs is a genuine relationship, rich, rewarding, transforming. Well worth reading at any age.
An Excellent Role Reversal.......2005-11-07
This may be the first realistic book I've ever read a novel with a boy as the main character. I found the idea of a kid who was basically wrapped up in his own fantasy world and refused to come out as very real and convincing. The characters are very real and very conflicted, even with such a small number of pages. The main character's fantasy world, Thorn, was very inspiring, since he went through all this trouble as a young child to create it. The romance in it is also very well done, since it is basically a story about a boy and girl and their complex relationship. LeGuin's other work, especially the Earthsea cycle, is very good, but if you're aching for something a little different then the norm, read "Very Far Away From Anywhere Else". It's also very inspiring to know that even short novels can have this kind of depth and complexity. It is nothing like other novellas, like The Pearl or Jonathan Livingston Seagull, which are purely allegorical and rather boring. "Very Far Away From Anywhere Else" is a book I would recommend to anyone.
What we have to read... .......2005-10-25
I'm a 21 year-old foreign student who is taking ESL class with teacher Robin Lavin every Monday and Wednesday morning 9:10 at the college of marin. I've read this book like a month ago. It was just a homework that I did not really want, but my attitude has been changed after I read this book. There are so much memories of the scent of what I have experienced. It is just the one we have to take a look. This book is the rememberancer of our teen-age nostalgia. Do not hesitate to recall the memorandum of our youth. Very Far Away From Anywhere Else... Ursula K. Le Guin has done great job. See the great job. Two thumbs up!!
Marcia Brasil.......2005-10-16
Very Far Away From Anywhere by LeGuim was an interesting and easy book to read. The author describes some conflicts teenagers in America experience when they are growing up. When you read it, it feels like the author went through similar situations. She describes the girl as strong woman, and the boy as a thinker. They are polite and intelligent. In this book, the author describes the two teenagers as outsiders. I think many teenagers have the same problems, but they don't think about it as much. Every teenager should read this book; it will help them to see they are not alone. Adults should read this book too, then they can understand what teenagers are going through. It is good to know there are more people experiencing the same situation. I think the author could describe a little more places and feelings, it could make the book a little more interesting.

Keep Far Away From this manga.......2007-08-29
Though being only slightly interesting this series is dull and un inspired.Only if because i was waiting for her to explain some plot, or what the awakening is and how it awakens. or how it could be Noriko. Or I don't know..if she was ever going to explain anything. I got to volume 4 and still didn't care about any of the characters nor did i understand this "political" crap side story the author adds in.
Noriko is your typical damsel in distress and the names of the characters couldn't be dumber. It's tired, it's been done better. and besides the characters not being able to communicate in the begining (which how this is a plus i can barely understand) THERE IS NO INNOVATION.
this story is as boring as it's undistinguishable lead characters. if i don't care after FOUR volumes...you know a story is lacking something...like real heart or genuine interest.
A good story, for younger readers.......2007-03-04
This is a review to express my feeling after having completed the 14 volume series.
I picked up this manga b/c I was having Red River withdrawal, and thought I'd give another 'teleport to a distanct country/time/place' manga a try.
The reason I'm giving this manga 4 starts instead of three is because as a story, this is well written and despite being disappointed by the lack of 'romance' in a manga that's labeled shoujo... I did enjoy it. As a fantasy/action story, this one was rather refreshing. The main heroine doesn't annoy me like so many 'virginal' pure manga heroines do, she does her best to be strong throughout and isn't self-absorbed or whiney, and you just have to love the main hero of the story. His predicament reminds me a lot of The Violinist of Hameln, raging demon on the inside that if he doesn't learn to control, will consume him, etc... The villains were pretty well done as well. Gotta love those cute lil' Chimos hehe.
For me tho, I wanted to see more development in the relationship between Noriko and Izark, there just wasn't enough romance for me to be satisfied. I was expecting even a KISS at the end or something... major dissapointment there... I can count the number of times Izark kissed Noriko on one hand throughout all fourteen volumes. I would recommend this for a younger reader, but if you are like me- (you enjoy a bit of fantasy and would rather search after a mature + label) I would recommend Red River instead.
Greetings From Far Away- An Overview of the Entire Series.......2007-01-20
Viz's Shoujo imprint has some of the best epic fantasy/romance manga on the market. From Far Away is comparable to series like Red River, Basara, and Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden in that they focus on the lives and loves of young women with great and often seemingly tragic destinies. I dearly love the above mentioned series, and since From Far Away has recently concluded its English language release, I'll tell you how it stacks up in comparison.
At the heart of From Far Away is a beauty and beast love story set in a fantasy world. The beauty is Noriko Tachiki, a spacey high schooler whose brush with death sends her hurtling through time and space to an alternate dimension. She is the Awakening, a ominous person spoken about in legend who will herald a disastrous time for this new land. The beast is Izark Kia Taj, a handsome, stand-offish mercenary with a terrible fate. He harbors the Sky Demon within himself, which will consume him when he comes in contact with the Awakening. As political turmoil and civil unrest engulf the land, powerful men would stop at nothing to claim the Sky Demon's power for themselves.
The characterization is perhaps the best aspect of From Far Away. Noriko manages to get her act together fairly quickly, and evolves into a plucky, resourceful heroine. Izark, of course, learns about love and stuff. There rather slowly unfolding romance is responsible for the best scenes in this series and any other shoujo comic I have read thus far. Of course, over the course of their journey to break their fates, they meet a colorful cast of side-characters. Another admirable aspect of From Far Away is the way the artist portrays people that otherwise wouldn't be portrayed as heroic as heroes. From a stout middle-aged woman with wisdom and nerves of steel to an aging political administrator, likable side characters drift in and out of the story.
However, the political storyline is the weakest aspect and it shares nearly as much face time as the character interactions. Of course, there is a crew of villains who want Izark and Noriko for their own nefarious purposes. The villains are never particularly well-developed and come across as being crazy evil for the flimsiest of reasons. The political situation of the world was never particularly interesting from the get-go but it is continuously developed throughout the story without ever managing to spark one iota of interest. Indeed, From Far Away stumbles by cementing Noriko and Izark as a couple way to soon. By volume 9, they are pretty much dedicated to each other and they don't have anywhere to go as characters. This leaves five volumes for the uninteresting political storyline to take center stage. Honestly, by the time the final volume was published, I was so sick of the good vs. evil storyline it almost didn't pick it up.
Overall, From Far Away is a series that went on too long. I don't think it helps that it is an acquired taste. After going back over the entire thing, I find it hard to believe that I followed it until the end because the first two volumes are dreadful. I have fond memories of many parts from the middle of the series, and I wouldn't hesitant to recommend it to younger girls that aren't mature enough to handle other shoujo epics like Basara and Red River. However, this just isn't a story that will endure multiple readings.
actually.......2007-01-14
I had actually read this story in another form (with different charaters*) and wanted to see how that story stayed true to form... and it did and i love it... i will have to find a husband who can afford my manga habit...Hey, there are worse habits.... i recommend this manga to all who read manga...
Great artwork!.......2006-08-27
This is one of my favorite manga. I love the artwork. It's beautiful! The storyline is a fantasy with a little romance thrown in. The lead female character is helpless alot so that kind of bugs me but then sometimes, very seldom, she is fearless. The lead male character is cool! A great read! This manga is 14 volumes. The end is almost here, I can't wait to see how it finishes up.

And she does feel like an old friend..........2004-12-07
It's easy to get hooked on Natalie Goldberg and it's not always easy to say why. In her Long Island accent -- not much changed by living in Minnesota and New Mexico -- she delivers wry commentary on writing much as I'd imagine a zen master lecturing a favorite student. She can be tough and demanding but she clearly loves her students. And she's very open about her own life, in and out of writing.
There's an old saying that we like someone better after we learn their flaws. I listened to Old Friends, ostensibly about writing a memoir, after reading Natalie Goldberg's own story of her two great teachers, her father and her zen master. It's a nice combination. Here Natalie Goldberg comes across as warmer and easier to know than in Thunder and Lightning and she drops hints about her own struggles, self-accepting as well as self-deprecating. For instance, it's clear that Goldberg has some bad karma about cars -- and here she adds an anecdote about failing a driving test on a freezing Minnesota morning when she went wrong way on a one-way street. None of these car stories seem to bother her as much as they'd bother me or most people I know!
In the end, Old Friend is less about writing memoir than about getting motivated to write and spending time with Natalie Goldberg. Sure, we get lots of exercises that could lead to a memoir: "I remember..." and, "Biggest mistakes I made..." but these exercises could also lead to a novel or even a nonfiction self-help book. Mostly her enthusiasm and her examples would make almost anyone grab a pen and paper and start writing -- now! . She captures the excitement of conquering a blank page and really engaging with ideas, using writing to grow our minds.
I'd recommend this CD to anyone who wants to write, who's struggling with a blank page, who's gotten jaded and frustrated and wondering why bother. That's almost anybody who writes, probably. And I'd recommend the CD to anyone who doesn't especially want to write but just maybe wants to try. And of course I'd recommend the CD to anyone who's met Natalie Goldberg and wants to spend another couple of hours with her, sharing the journey.
Postscript: I live in southwestern New Mexico, so people always ask if I live near Natalie Goldberg. She's about eight hours away up in Taos where they get tons more snow than we do! Some days she probably thinks she's back in Minnesota.
Natalie Goldberg is our girlfriend!.......2003-04-17
I feel as if I know Natalie!
After all, I have listened to all of her writing workshops and read most of her books. How cool is it to listen to a "Writing Workshop" while taking a walk in your neighborhood!?
And to listen to Natalie's (New York-Minnesota-New Mexico accent!) Loooove her.
"Old Friend from Far Away" is wonderful. Natalie gives the writer many ideas about how to get that pen moving, how to write that first sentence..."Write... I remember. My first kiss. My favorite meal is. My father was. My worse food. My favorite river."
And Details... People are really interested. Not the flower...what kind of flower. Not red...Ruby, cranberry, rose.
Get it???!!!!!! And what is Natalie's most amazing advice????
WRITING PRACTICE. If you know anything about Natalie, you would have realized that.
She reads to us from some of her favorite authors and poets. She says that "Ballad of the Sad Cafe" by Carson Mccullers is the reason she became a writer. She says that we need to name things... Spanish olive, Oak tree, Buttercup. Isn't that more concrete than olive, tree, flower!!????
Natalie tells us to get going, write, pick up the pen. And practice, practice, practice!!!!!!!
Well, what are you waiting for?!!!
Inspiring, motivating, and fun.......2003-01-31
This audio was a joy to listen to. I feel so motivated to continue writing my memoir. I took notes, but more than that I listened to Natalie's voice and felt encouraged. (Her voice made me homesick with her pronounced New York accent). She gives examples of other authors' memoirs as well as her own. She helped me keep going with my own story, which I stopped when the going got tough. Writing is the easiest activity in the world to procrastinate (easier to start a diet!) But I found myself welcomed and my life's story valued by listening to her. If you want a shot in the arm or a gentle nudge, to motivate your writing, get this tape. Thanks, Natalie!!

Customer Reviews:
Serious Beach Boys Fan? This is a MUST HAVE,.......2007-04-03
The level of detail in here is absolutely astounding and this is a fascinating book. If you enjoyed Catch A Wave read this next. It will help you understand the genius of Brian Wilson and how he evolved into the master that he is. The history of the Wilson family is so well researched that it taught modern Wilsons things about their heritage that even they didn't know. This book goes well beyond what you would expect in rock and roll non-fiction/ rock biography. This delivers a window into American history and musical history. It also gives you a window into the hearts and dreams of an American family that has become a household name because of Brian.
A Decent Book About A Gigantic Talent!.......2006-03-08
The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson made unique and wonderful music over their long and successful career. If you are interested in reading the story behind this music there are several books to choose from. This book is probably a good choice for a Beach Boys fan who wants to find out about their heroes' accomplishments without delving too deeply into the tabloid type scandals of Brian Wilson's personal life and the lives of the other Beach Boys. The best parts of this book are the critical examination and praise for the Beach Boys later albums, such as "Sunflower," which are sometimes underappreciated, and the portrayal of Brian Wilson's bravery and persistence in battling mental illness. The biggest weakness of this book is the beginning, which seems to go on forever, describing the Wilson family background. Brian Wilson isn't even born until page 64! A smaller problem is that the dysfunctional lives of the Beach Boys, especially Brian Wilson, Mike Love, and Dennis Wilson, were a big part of the story, and probably deserved more attention than this author gives in order to get an accurate portrayal of the subject.
Beach Boys- 5 stars / So. Cal Experience- 1 star.......2005-06-17
All in all a fascinating and detailed amount of interesting info on the Beach Boys marred only by side trips to the Southern California Experience. If you have no interest in geneaology you can easily skip the first 80 pages and not be at a loss. I read them but came away with not much being of interest or memorable. Also, if you have no interest in the various nuances of surfing or gas-powered vehicles you can skip over several more pages scattered throughout the book. But hey, I guess if you pay attention to the title you should know what to expect. The title certainly doesn't suggest that's it's totally devoted to only Brian and the group.
But the Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys story alone is worth the price of admission. This includes behind the scenes studio session information, lots of details on all the side musicians who filled in with the group as well as Brian's tragic descent into mental illness. A very enjoyable read even if you just skim over the peripheral material.
A Genealogist takes humbrage with comments on BB book.......2005-04-24
Timothy White is a superb writer, and he really makes one understand why did the Beach Boys become who they were. Why was Dennis such a rebel? Why was Murry so abusive? The answers are here. Brian Wilson is a genius, but his fragile nature he was not born with. The Wilsons were a poor family, and full of hard luck until the boys struck gold with rock n roll.
I am kind of angered and annoyed at the foolish people on this comment board that are annoyed that much of the book dealt with the ancestors of the Beach Boys. I am certain many of them are totally oblivious and ignorant of what genealogy is and how families, even way traced back, can influence and impact who you are today. The story of the Beach Boys is a truly American story with their roots going through NY, Ohio, KS, and finally California. Why were they in California? Why did they not stay in Hutchinson, KS? You just can't start with Murry and Audree as one needs to also study Murry's past...HIS relationship with his dad. Get a grip, genealogy hating posters!
Why not critics here study their own genealogy if they have the intellectual acumen and they will see how the past can influence the present whether they want to believe it or not. Then they will understand the reason why biographies usually have a huge section on the ancestors of a person(s).
Ambitious but uneven.......2002-06-20
If you're interested in the early 20th-century westward migration, and in the early 60's surf and car culture, the first half of this book will be useful to you. As a history of the band, however, it's spotty at best, especially post-1970: an enthusiastic track-by-track review of 1970's "Sunflower" album is followed, not by discussion of the "Carl & The Passions" and "Holland" albums (which it doesn't even mention) but a capsule history of the discovery of polyurethane skateboard wheels and the revival of that sport. If you really want to know what was on every page of a newspaper from Hutchison, Kansas, circa 1910, then you'll probably like this book.
White does seem to love the band, at least. Seek out his "How Deep Is The Ocean?" for a more satisfying read.
