So far, so good.......2007-10-17
I haven't gotten very far into learning my new software, and as a result, into this book, but it has proved helpful so far, and easy to use and understand.
Great Reference Book!.......2007-08-13
Being new to any Microsoft Office product, when I purchased Office 2007, I was pretty lost. Microsoft's on-line tutorials were useless, so I purchased Office 2007 for Dummies, thinking I would use it mostly as a reference. It was so well written and easy to understand, I actually read the entire book, and am looking forward to using Publisher and Power Point (I initially purchased Office for Word and Excel). I found working with Office 2007 easy after reading this book, and have had to utilize the book as a reference very minimally. Utilizing the table of contents and index, I can quickly locate what I am looking for. I am sure this book saved me hours of frustration by laying out the concept behind the Office 2007 design, and showing me how to quickly hunt for commands that I know are there (from reading about them in the book). I am sure my learning time was greatly reduced. Great job Peter Werverka!
All in One Desk Reference for Dummies-Office 2007.......2007-07-29
Excellent reference guide for the new Microsoft Office 2007. Without it I would have been stumbling around trying to figure out some of the functions as this new edition is very different.
Great Product!.......2007-07-10
Mail delivery was faster than I thought - and the reference book is being used every day. The manual we got with the program did not explain half of what I needed and this reference is easy and fast!
Extremely Helpful Book!.......2007-06-26
The Office 2007 All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies is very helpful for someone trying to weather the transition from previous versions of Microsoft Office to the new Microsoft Office 2007. This book not only covers common office applications, but gets into more detail for each program (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, etc.) I would highly recommend this book to anyone who needs an easy-to-follow guide to the new software.

Interesting examples and helpful advice.......1999-09-18
Some examples of documents are in color and others are in black and white. They all look good--professional. I think I can do that too, with the help of this book. Lots of good advice, tips and tricks. Good book!
Good book--insider tips and advice.......1999-09-17
I like this book because the author offers a lot of tips and advice about using Publisher and about making documents look good.
Lots of good examples........1999-08-18
The book has a lot of examples that showed me different ways to do my newsletter and other designs. I can never think of ideas for making the text and pictures look good together. Plus, the author uses a conversational tone in her writing...it's like she's sitting next to me and telling me what to do. Good book.

Microsoft for Dummies.......2007-02-10
It was of some help, but I thought it would show me step by step how to do a publication. You have to leave one chapter and go to another to get all the directions to set up your publication. Not quite written as simply as they say. I guess I'm a little dumber than your regular dummie!
MS Publisher For Dummies.......2005-08-09
The book was listed as 'Good Condition' and arrived in a very short time in what I can only describe as 'Excellent Condition' I am very pleased with the book, delivery, and service.
Not recommended for all........2000-08-13
Overall, I found this book jam packed with a little bit of info on every topic necessary but I felt like it spent more time DESCRIBING the features and EXPLAINING WHY they were important instead of giving HANDS-ON INSTRUCTIONS. The book called "Quick Course in Microsoft Publisher 2000" by Joyce Cox and Christina Dudley (ISBN: 1582780072) was more helpful for me. I acknowledge that each person has a different style of learning. If you need specific hands-on instruction, go with Quick Course. If you need to understand the big picture first, go with the Dummies book. Good luck!

Authors, Please Check for Errors Before Publishing!.......2007-02-16
There are several errors in this textbook that cause the student to make mistakes when attempting to follow the instructions as written. My instructor told us to "use the pictures and do what looks best rather than follow the instructions." You've got to be kidding!

Decent.......2004-07-28
This is a very pretty and colorful book constructed with outstanding paper and quality binding. However the subject presentation seems geared toward high school age readers. A number of interesting example files are available and they integrate seamlessly with the chapter material. But the real problem is as follows. The author(s) will show a project (brochure, newsletter, etc.) that the reader is going to create using MS Publisher. Then the author will direct the reader step-by-step on how to achieve the desired end result. For instance: choose this option, pick this menu item, highlight this text, insert this file, and so on. But the author never explains WHY we did these things. Consequently if a reader is faced with creating a totally different project than the example he just worked on this book is no more useful than if the reader never opened it.
Books should provide the reader with the overall scope of a computer program and relate the underlying theoretical concepts behind the package so that when the reader is later confronted with needs unlike any of the included examples, s/he will be able to figure out on his/her own how to consummate the project. In this regard, the author fails miserably.

Perhaps okay for a total novice but anyone interested in using Publisher isn't a novice. I think I did read this was meant as a teaching aid/textbook which I didn't think of as a negative. WRONG!

Valuable Resource.......2007-03-08
For the last 9 months I have been on a quest to learn about marketing. Although I don't have Microsoft publisher, this book still teaches great design concepts and puts it all in a marketing context. Regardless of whether you create designs on your own or work with someone else -- you will be smarter because of this book.
Misleading to Business Owners and Sales Professionals..........2007-02-23
First and foremost, let me say that I am a Graphics Professional with over 10 years experience in the advertising arena. My company represents a host of national brands across more than 30 states. Yes, we're big and yes, I'm for real.
Many times a month do I have some "wanna-be designer" salesperson, business owner, etc. sending over a so-called "camera ready" piece of garbage created with Microsoft Publisher. Besides the ignorant misconception that just anyone can create effective and professional advertising "all by their lonesome" or even worse have their receptionist or secretary do it because she "knows computers", once this monstrosity gets to your designer or print facility they will have to completely rebuild your creation from scratch using a professional graphics application (this should have been done in the first place) produced by Adobe or Quark. By the way, what should concern you at this point is that you often have to pay an added fee with a reputable printer when they have to rebuild a Microsoft Publisher file. Think about it.
Wake up and smell your Starbucks people! This book is blowing fairy dust up your skirts and telling you that you can fly! Meanwhile your valuable time and advertising dollars are being futily wasted following this advice. I realize that you don't like paying for a competant designer, and that's exactly why you have an incompetant one who doesn't understand basic marketing principles! You want real advice? Don't buy this book. Find a real designer with the strengths and tools your business deserves and buy him/her a cup of coffee while you discuss your next advertising campaign.
Yes, I read this book and I totally disagree with everything the author is trying to sell to unwitting businesspersons.
Use this book to educate your artist!.......2007-02-01
I've found that most graphic artists don't understand marketing. Because of that, when you ask them to design a newsletter template, you get something that may look good, but doesn't work.
They don't recognise that it's the words that sell and the layout, color and style are ther to make it look attractive enough to read it.
This book will teach you how to do it yourself; even better than doing it yourself, use the knowledge to make sure your graphic artist does what you want. Use it to put yourself in control!
Parker understands marketing and content and how to use design in concert with goals.......2006-11-13
Many readers of my blog and my most recent book Cashing in with Content: How Innovative Marketers use Digital Information to turn Browsers into Buyers know that I insist (and often rant incessantly) about content as the most important aspect of a Web site, ebook, white paper, newsletter and the like. I really hate seeing cool deign with nothing of substance in the way of content behind it.
But I do have to admit that I don't know a lot about design and decided to learn. Robert C. Parker's Design to Sell provided me a terrific overview of how to use design as a competitive asset. While the book has a focus about using Microsoft Publisher to plan, write, and design great marketing pieces, the chapters in the front of the book gave me the grounding I needed.
One of the reasons that I chose this book is that Parker totally understands marketing and content and how to use design in concert with goals. I didn't want to read a book that was just focused on pretty stuff - I wanted to know how design is an important component to enhancing the great content that is created in newsletters, white papers, ebooks, Web sites and so on.
Check out Parker's companion blog to his book. Is this an awesome deign or what?
Stamp out mediocre design!.......2006-06-16
Microsoft Publisher is to desktop publishing design as Microsoft Word is to writing and editing. They're great software -- great tools -- but no substitute for the knowledge and skill needed to be a designer or a writer. That's where Roger C. Parker bridges the gap with Design to Sell, an indispensable instructional tour de force of incalculable value to any Microsoft Publisher user. Don't even think about trying to design a publication using Microsoft Publisher without this book. Stamp out mediocre design! Roger C. Parker shows you how.

Good Learning Tool.......2006-05-12
This is a good book for learning. There are some parts in the book that are not easy to understand. When completing some of the assignments, one should have an instructor or a tutor. The book is promising for classroom students. However, for the self learner it is not a walk in the park.
Hich Cost Hand Holding.......2003-05-08
If you have never worked with WORD, have no clue how to cut and paste, and are generally clueless about fundamental editing technicques with MS products, this book might help; others will find it sophomoric in its techniques, useless in its organization, and a waste of money. Apparently, it was written for classroom student; not for active users trying to solve a particular problem. For the former, it might be ok; for the latter, its utility is at negative infinity.
Helpful Guide for Anyone Inexperienced with MSPublisher 2002.......2003-04-30
If you haven't worked on Publisher much and need to for your work or school, etc. I would definitely recommend this book. It teaches about many different features in Publisher that I didn't even know existed. However, don't spend the money if you don't use Publisher much. ...
You can learn how to design all sorts of print materials... you can even post what you have designed in Publisher on websites... I think that is one of the nicer features. The instructions in the book are very easy to understand and give you step-by-step instruction for working hands-on on your computer.
A Magazine Not a Book.......2003-01-20
The content of this book is OK, but the poor physical quality of this book makes it feel like a magazine instead of a book. The cover, the binding, the thin paper are actually less substantial than some high quality magazines. This book set a new LOW standard in this respect.
