Easter Bunny has always painted all the Easter Eggs himself, but this year his eyes are tired! So he holds an Easter Egg Painting Contest among his helpers to find the best new design. Inspired by a lighthouse at the seashore, Willa Bunny paints bold red stripes on her egg. Jellybean Bunny paints pretty spring flowers on his egg in the country. But Bella Bunny gets lost in the woods, trying to follow drifting clouds. When night arrives, stars appear--giving Bella the idea to paint golden stars on her egg. And who's the winner of the contest? All three little bunnies!
Book Description
At nine o'clock The Cat Club will convene to celebrate this wondrous Halloween night in Jenny's Moonlight Adventure. All the cats, from twins Romulus and Remus through to the wise Solomon, have been looking forward to this evening. The high point of the party is to be the nose flute performance by the Persian cat Madame Butterfly, but she has hurt herself, cannot leave her house, and has lost her instrument. The flute is found in a pile of autumn leaves but there's still the problem of how to return the flute to its beautiful Persian owner. Jenny comes up with a very adventurous plan. After all, Halloween is "her" night. But will she pull it off?
Customer Reviews:
A pleasure -- like all the Jenny books.......2007-01-22
My 7 year old son just LOVES the Jenny books and we do too. What a wonderful bunch of cats and what wonderful stories. He's hard to please so when he begs to read aloud from the Jenny books because he just has to share them you know we've found Treasures! Thank you for carrying these memorable volumes.
Also, the format and binding are great quality. We'll be keeping these around forever!
Book Description
Since its first performance on Christmas Eve, 1951, Amahl and the Night Visitors has taken its place with A Christmas Carol as a holiday classic. Peformed on every continent and in many languages, it has been seen by more people than any other opera in history.
The story tells of the night the Three Kings, following the star to Bethlehem, stop for shelter at the home of Amahl, a poor, crippled shepard boy who lives with his widowed mother. Inspired by the Wise Men's tale of a kingdom "built on love alone," Amahl offers his own simple gift to the Christ Child. And then a miracle happens. . .
In this warm and compassionate story, Gian Carlo Menotti has captured the essential spirit of Christmas. At its premiere, The New York Times called Amahl "rare art. . . tender and exquisite." Now brought to life in glowing watercolors, Amahl and the Night Visitors is a feast for the eyes and heart, one readers of all ages will want to return to again and again.
Customer Reviews:
Amahl and the Night Visitors Vocal Score.......2007-01-12
The score was complete and arrived within a few days of ordering. It was written clearly and I was able to accomplish the task I wanted without any trouble. It included both vocal soloists and choral parts so that the choir would be able to manage it easily. I was very pleased with my purchase.
Beautiful story and images!.......2004-12-13
This gorgeously illustrated storybook has become the favorite part of my Christmas, since I found it 8 years ago. As an elementary music teacher I found this to be a fabulous way to introduce opera to my 4th grade classes. Each year I read the story to them inserting selected vocal works from the opera. This allows the children to hear the words spoken first, preparing them for the selections from the opera.
I would encourage anyone who wishes to teach their children about opera to purchase this book along with a quality audio recording. Enjoy!
THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.......2001-06-21
Look no more! At a wonderful price, this IS the complete score reduced for piano. Of course, performance rights and other instrumental orchestrations must be obtained through the publisher, but the info. that you need to do that is included in this book. If you're looking to get started into "Amahl", this and the video are the way to do it!
Lame boy meets Wise Men.......1998-09-21
This lovely Christmas book is based on Menotti's own cure of lameness as a child in 1911 Italy. In this book, Amahl, the lame boy, meets up with the Wise Men on the way to Bethlehem. His poor mother and he give the Wise Men a place to bed down for the night and Amahl is repaid for his faith by being cured and going with the Wise Men to meet the Christ Child. This delightful Christmas story is full of mystery and awe, reinforced well by the full color illustrations. This book belongs on every child's bookshelf and makes an excellent Christmas gift for six to eleven year olds. I am a church librarian and bought this book for our church library.
Book Description
Ria hates New York. She misses her friends, and the warm Puerto Rican sun; most of all she misses the animals she left behind. Then, one day, Ria's neighbor Mrs. Blum takes her on a surprise trip: to a big cathedral-it's the festival of St. Francis Day, when everyone brings their pets to be blessed! At first, Ria is disappointed. She doesn't have a pet of her own for blessing. But a mishap with a mischievous duck leads to Ria being asked to join the magnificent Procession of Animals, right into the church! With Groucho the duck in her arms as she dances with elephants and turtles, snakes and dogs, Ria begins to realize that she's not so far from home after all.
This story of a special New York tradition has universal appeal for animal lovers of all ages, everywhere.
Illustrated by Loren Long.

Demystifying the Lion.......2006-03-21
If you have small children, their first encounter with the lion can be the stuff bad dreams are made of. Our 16-month-old son was both frightened and intrigued by the lion that came to the Chinese restaurant where our friends' son was enjoying his first birthday. The book follows Ernie Wan through his preparation to his first lion dance one Chinese New Year's day in New York's Chinatown. You see the customs and rituals that lead up to his debut. More important, you see the closeness of his family and the value of rites of passage in gathering people together. My family is not Chinese but my wife and I have immigrant parents. If you are trying to demonstrate why maintaining your cultural heritage is worthwhile, Lion Dancer will support your cause. My son literally drools on the pictures of the Chinese dishes and the kung-fu kicks of the lions amid the firecracker smoke. If I have a single criticism, it's that the pages of this paperback will fall out after repeated reading. And if I'm entitled to menion one mature indulgence, the book includes a section describing the personalities of the various animals in the Chinese lunar year. You might agree that the year you were born is more telling than the month.
our favorite book about Chinese New Year!.......2006-02-21
This is a great non-fiction about Chinese New Year, for ages 4-12! The text is simple enough for younger children and detailed enough to really be informative for older children. Following a young child through his preparations for the celebration immediately brings young readers (and listeners)into the story. Vivid photographs of familiar and novel scenes help children to relate to Ernie Wan while learning about a significant aspect of his culture. Rather than lecturing the reader, this book invites the reader to share in one boy's celebration of the Chinese New Year while teaching about the holiday at the same time. This book has been well-loved by my children (now ages 8, 10, 12) for many years. We are now on our second copy of the book! It comes out every Chinese New Year, and even some other times through out the year. My children often ask to take this book to school to share at Chinese New Year. (Bonus: inside the back cover is an explanation of the Chinese zodiac with years and personality traits.)
Fabulous For Preschool On Up!.......2005-12-12
Follow Ernie Wan and his family throughout a traditional Chinese (Cantonese) New Year Celebration! Colorful photos and detailed text provide good insight to a fascinating and beautiful culture! Photos of New York's Chinatown and Chinese schools are accompanied by cultural facts. From kung fu school to New Year traditions, this book is more than I expected. The Lion Dance is covered very well, but is certainly not the sole topic of this outstanding book! Ages 4 and up.
For my preschool class, I am pairing this book with an 11' long paper dragon and a stuffed dragon puppet. The children will be making paper lanterns and sampling various Chinese foods. They should really enjoy the unit on Chinese New Year!
Gung-Hey-Fat-Choy! Happy New Year!
Liondance fan!.......2005-09-15
I thought the book was very interesting with wonderful pictures
for children to look at. Despite being written for children to enjoy, it gave some insight to anyone, curious about this aspect of Chinese culture.

Really cute story!.......2006-11-13
I read this to my kindergarten class every Thanksgiving when I was teaching. The boy in the story has a dad who is a truck driver so he spends all his time with his grandparents (Abuelo and Abuela). His dad sends along a turkey with a note that he will be home for Thanksgiving dinner. Well, as the boy takes care of and becomes more and more attached to the turkey it becomes apparent they are not going to have a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving.
Nice ending and a very cute story!

Customer Reviews:
Exquisite!.......2003-08-05
Trust me! The pictures don't do this book justice!
Corey does an excellent job of capturing the magic of the holiday through a child's eyes. She also makes an effort to show how even a child can make a big difference in the world around her if she has the courage to act on what she believes.
I fell in love with Helquist's artwork while reading the Series of Unfortunate Events. There's something about the whimsical nature of his drawings....the sharp features, the minute details, the mystical feeling about them. I almost expect Milly to wink at me from the cover!
All in all this is an inspiring book, and a fitting opener to the holiday season. This one's sure to be a family favorite, so don't let it get away!
How it all started..........2002-11-12
Millie is a little Polish girl and gets the swing of things in New York. It's near Thanksgiving and the Macy's department store is wrapped up like a present. Millie visits the contents of the present everyday after school.
Millie's father works at Macy's and some of his friends from other countries besides Poland. They all miss their customs, holidays, food, and religion. That's when Millie has an idea that will suit everyone...
~Erin

Wonderful Start for the Holidays.......2002-10-27
This book is a fantastic read for any Macy's Day Parade fan. The drawings by Helquist are fantastic and put you right into the moment of the 1924 holiday start. It will definitely put one and all in the family in the mood for Thanksgiving and the season it rings in. Personally, I have purchased a couple for friends and relatives with youngsters who live abroad so they to can view one of our wonderful traditions.
I love this book!.......2002-10-18
I use historical fiction a lot in my classroom, and was excited to see Milly and the Macys Parade. It's a great story-with lots of alliteration--and also a beautiful illustration of how as a country of immigrants, most of America's culture and traditions (in this case the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade) actually stem from various immigrant cultures and traditions. More important for my third graders though, it's a fun, engaging story (with a very spunky heroine determined to save the holidays) and not at all sappy. It's also a visual treat-the artwork is detailed and rich, but quirky enough so that the boys like it even though the main character is a girl . I've only had it in my classroom for 4 days, but so far students have taken it home every night. I whole-heartedly recommend this picturebook for the holidays or any time of year!

Book Description
A symbol of freedom – the Statue of Liberty
Here is the story of the exciting day in 1886 when the Statue of Liberty was unveiled to the world. A small boy stands at the foot of the statue, ready to relay a signal to its creator way up in Liberty’s crown, telling him it is time. As anticipation builds, the boy describes the bustling scene in the harbor and on the island – all of New York waiting, including two hundred women suffragists and the President of the United States. In detailed vignettes we see the construction of the statue in France, its voyage to America, and its installation in New York Harbor.
Through rhythmic, evocative prose and energetic pen-and-wash illustrations, we are made to feel the excitement of those gathered to see Liberty’s face for the first time, and to remember all that she represents.
Customer Reviews:
Meet Lady Liberty............2002-08-07
"Imagine this...New York City, October 28, 1886... A small boy stands at the foot of an enormous statue, his heart bursting with excitement, for today he has been given the most important job in the world..." Based on true events, and seen through the eyes of a little boy, Allan Drummond details the momentous day the Statue of Liberty was unveiled in New York Harbor. As the rained poured down, the harbor was teaming with ships and boats, filled with thousands of cheering people, flying French and American flags. Everyone was there, Mr Bartholdi, the sculptor, the many workers who helped build the statue in France, and erect it here in America, the sailors who brought her over from France, the press, businessmen, dignitaries, and even the President of the United States, all waiting for the signal that would reveal Lady Liberty's beautiful face for the first time..... Mr Drummond's simple text is engaging, entertaining, and full of energy, as the excitement of that day builds with each page turn. His marvelous bright and busy illustrations, in shades of red, white, and blue, dazzle as they swirl around the pages, creating a joyous feast for the eyes. Perfect for youngsters 5-9, Liberty is an evocative masterpiece, best read aloud and shared, that leaves behind a gentle and unforgettable message. "Freedom is like a flame we must all hold high and give to others and keep burning bright all around the world."
Tells its story through the eyes of a young boy.......2002-04-13
Written and illustrated by Allan Drummond, Liberty! is an enthusiastic, full-color picturebook for young readers about the Statue of Liberty, which France gave to the United States in 1886. Telling its story through the eyes of a young boy, Liberty! follows the great statue's steamship voyage with imaginative pen-and-wash artwork and enthusiasm for the treasure that is Liberty. Highly recommended for both school and community library picturebook collections.
Patriotism for the Young.......2002-04-03
Allan Drummond brings to life the factual events of how Lady Liberty came to America, all through the eyes of a small boy. Drummond leads the reader through events leading up to and including the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty. The anticipation and enthusiasm for the coming of the Statue of Liberty that is felt in the people of New York and France is wonderfully shown in Drummond's writing. His delightful illustrations use wonderful colors to help portray this story of America's ideals of Liberty and Freedom.

A wonderful holiday treat.......2001-07-19
When my sisters and I were small children, my mother began to read us this story just before Christmas. We heard it read aloud each year as we grew up, and it became an important and special part of our holiday celebration. Now as a middle school teacher, I read this book to my students each December. It's a charming (and true!) tale of a loving family who experience a very special holiday. Simple but sincere, heartwarming and gentle, Lion in the Box is a book to treasure. Sharing this story each year is a wonderful tradition to start in your own family.
A "Living" Book.......2000-09-07
This book is about a poor family in New York. It is what Charlotte Mason referred to as a "living" book. When I read this book to my children, they were 6 and 7 years of age. They were spellbound and I wound up reading it in one sitting because they "begged" me to keep going! There is also a neat craft idea for making a Christmas star.
