The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves. On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. One thing readers might not predict, however, is just what kinds of funny characters will make an appearance at the denouement! Children on the verge of reading learn best with plenty of identifiable images and rhythmic repetition. Eric Carle's good-humored style and colorful, bold illustrations (like those in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, and Have You Seen My Cat?) have earned him a prominent place in the children's book hall of fame. (Baby to Preschool) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
A big happy frog, a plump purple cat, a handsome blue horse, and a soft yellow duck-- all parade across the pages of this delightful book. Children will immediately respond to Eric Carle's flat, boldly colored collages. Combined with Bill Martin's singsong text, they create unforgettable images of these endearing animals.

Another classic!.......2007-10-17
You can never go wrong with the classics. I read this book to my children and this copy is for my grandchildren!!
A+.......2007-09-30
I've used this book (the hard cover version) to teach English to my Kindergarten English Language Learners. They like it! I also give this as a gift to my friends' pre-schoolers. It's a keeper.
Addicting!.......2007-09-27
From the day we purchased this book, my daughter asks for it EVERYTIME she lies down for a nap or bedtime. I quickly learned it by heart so I could tell her the story in the dark (many times she will fall asleep before I finish). My husband however just changes the story a little bit. My daughter can now read it to us (only 21 months old) and does so often. This book has really helped her learn her animals and colors. I will be giving this book for a shower gift from now on.
Eric Carle.......2007-09-23
Anything by Eric Carle is excellent. This is my son's favorite book. He's 3 and know every animal before we get to the page.
Wonderful for 12mo olds!.......2007-09-20
We bought this for our daughter for her first birthday. The text is simple, teaching colors and animals. The illustrations are, of course, beautiful. She loves this book!
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
Great Child's Book.......2007-09-09
My nephew loves this book. He reads it over and over again and thinks it is funny.
Can't go wrong with Skippyjon.......2007-08-26
My 2 yr old loves this book. If you a skippyjon fan like we are, its a must have.
Great and silly way for kids to learn colors.
A disappointment.......2007-05-13
This board book has very few pages and lacks the story that I expected from other Skippjon Jones books. My four year old learned his colors a long time ago and has not shown any interest in this book since we first read it. I do not recommend it for preschoolers but babies might enjoy it. I wish I had been able to peek inside the book before buying.
Skippy Jon JOnes .......2007-05-12
book is a board book, a lot smaller than i expected. only like 5 pages long
Very Cute!.......2007-03-24
I ordered this book along with another one and the Skippyjon Jones stuffed animal. My grandson (age 10 months) LOVES them! Very Cute!
Book Description
Six treasured Little Golden Books are all in one beautiful box! These six titles, featuring adorable animals, are truly the pick of the litter: The Color Kittens; Mister Dog, I Can Fly; Baby Farm Animals; The Jolly Barnyard; and The Happy Man and His Dump Truck. A bonus blank Little Golden Book lets children create their own literary masterpieces!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-07-16
Was surprised to find the "Write your own story" book enclosed in this gift set. Would recommend to anyone.
Golden Book set.......2007-02-08
I bought this set for my grandson and am very pleased with it! It has five titles (The Color Kittens, Mister Dog, I Can Fly, Baby Farm Animals, The Jolly Barnyard, and The Happy Man and His Dump Truck) which are old favorites with some favorite author/illustrators, including Margaret Wise Brown and Garth Williams. The reason for buying the set AS a set, however, was the blank create-your-own Golden Book! I think this is a great idea and look forward to seeing my grandson's own story!

Book Description
One day three white mice discover three jars of paint--red, blue, and yellow. Both parents and children alike will appreciate this lighthearted presentation of a lesson in color. “Walsh’s cut-paper collage illustrations have bold colors and just the right simplicity for the storyline. A real charmer that’s great fun as well as informative.”--School Library Journal
Customer Reviews:
Great gift for a pre-schooler!.......2007-09-17
This is a super source of creative inspiration for young children. Start them out working with an adult or older child, and they will absolutely take off with creativity and use of colors!
There's hours of educational entertainment inside this slim volume!
Three white mice. See how they run........2007-08-27
This is simply a magnificent book for young children! Bright and colorful, it follows the tale/tail of three white mice who discover three jars of paint. Of course, they are the primary colors (red, yellow, and blue for those artistically-challenged folks out there). Adults will smirk because they know what's coming next, but just check out the face of a little one who is still discovering the magic and awe of mixing colors. Yes! Red feet in yellow paint make orange feet - cool! These adorable mice perform all kinds of "color dances" until finally washing themselves off in a bowl of water (which says CAT on it - hilarious!) The collage-style illustrations (which remind me of Leo Lionni) really seem to make the mice come alive. This is a must-have for every child's bookshelf.
Adorable book. My 5 year old read it by himself..........2007-07-19
This is the first book my 5 year old read completely by himself, with minimal assistance from me. He read it and my 3 year old sat and enjoyed the story. It is a VERY cute story and the pictures on the pages help tell the story and encourage the new reader... so it is good to read to kids AND it is great for early readers. A book with a dual purpose is a great book in my book. (Ha)
great book!!.......2007-01-12
We've been reading this book to my daughter since she was just a few weeks old and she loves it! She often holds it up to us so that we will read it to her. It is a great way to learn how the three primary colors combine to make secondary colors. I highly recommend it!
I love this book!.......2006-11-04
Even as an adult, I find these mice so adorable! It is a cute tale that also teaches the child about colors and color combinations.
As an adult, I laugh over and over at the subtle humor hidden in the pages.
It reads pretty quickly for smaller children, giving time to ask the children to interact with the page ("Where's the RED paint?", "What color do you get when you mix RED and YELLOW?", etc.) before they get bored.
Such a sweet little tale. An artist at heart, and a clutz at that, I can totally connect with the little mice.

Learning and playing, playing and learning--it's all one and the same when you're a tot. So this big box of block books is an ideal toy and learning tool for very young children. An appealing and colorful cardboard carrying case (with flip-top construction and cheery red string handles) is packed with 26 extra-sturdy little board books that teach kids about colors, numbers, shapes, and animals. Each 8-page book focuses on one concept or theme--"Orange," "Four," "Circle," "Bugs," etc.--with a word or two on each spread, along with a simple illustration. The chunky books are just the right size for tiny hands; readers can stack them up to build a tower--or a foundation for learning! Consider it an updated version of the classic wooden alphabet blocks children have grown up with for generations. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter
Customer Reviews:
One of the best Learning tools........2007-06-09
One of my nieces had a similar Learning Block Book for her daughter of two.
I found it very interesting and helpful for little children to learn about different colors, etc. That is why I bought this book for my cousin of 9 months so he can get a jump on other children.
good learning tools.......2007-01-18
I am very happy with the Learning Block Books. They are small enough for little hands to hold and very colorful for holding attention. We use them like flash cards and also for picking out the right number, shape, color etc. So they can be used many ways!
books good box bad.......2007-01-15
I was really looking forward to getting this box of books for my son. He opened it on Christmas and couldn't wait to read them, the very first time he opened the lid on the box the box fell apart on the side. I put a strip of clear packing tape on the seam to hold it together and it's fine now but I shouldn't have to do that for a brand new item. Not as quality as the nickelodeon box of books. The books themselves are great and we haven't had any problems with them.
Ok to add to your Kid's book shelf.......2007-01-05
My Kiddo loves books, so even while I was disappointed with these, I see that my Son is enjoying it. He was 13 months old when I got this. The blocks/books look a little cheap and the choice of pictures are not good. Each block has only 4 pages. It comes handy while you need to keep your baby engaged during a shopping trip or a car ride.
good produsct.......2007-01-04
my 1 year old loves this, the stack up thing, well he's not ready for that, but he really enjoys those little books, holding in his tiny hands, overall I liked this purchase

I am a story book reader volunteer for the head start preschool program. All of the how do dinosaurs do books have captivated my preschoolers and at the same time they are learning good moral character and proper manners. I believe I have all of them and feel every penny was well worth the spending.

Move over, Pat the Bunny! Patting the ducklings is only one of the highlights of Matthew Van Fleet's engaging, interactive fold-out book for very young children. Every page contains an animal surprise, from the fuzzy yellow ducklings to bumpy brown frogs, fuzzy gray koalas, and more. Children will enjoy touching the different textures and identifying shapes of the seven creatures that populate the book, but it's only when the fold-up page is fully extended that all is revealed--it's not a pink line at all, but a frog tongue! At the close of the book, the animals come together in a wild revelry of shape and color. Every small child needs a beginning book like this, one where they can guess and guess again, delighting in the all the tactile wonders as well as increasing their skills in shape and color recognition. And, if this one is already on the shelf, Van Fleet's One Yellow Lion and Spotted Yellow Frogs are fun, too. (Baby to preschool)
Book Description
This charming introduction to colors, shapes, and animals has been delighting children all over the world for ten years! There is a surprise on every peek-a-boo page, where textured shapes magically turn into colorful creatures perfect for toddler's touching.
Customer Reviews:
Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings.......2006-08-12
I bought Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings for my granddaughter, because she dearly loves Matthew Van Fleet's book, Tails. However, I soon discovered that Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings doesn't have all of the interesting details or interactive play elements that are included in Tales.
wonderful, wonderful book!.......2006-02-04
This book is lovely! So fun for both adults and kids! It is definately worth the price, will be a treasured part of your family library, read and re-read zillions of times.
All of Matthew Van Fleet's books are great. ("Tails" is my favorite.) His books are warm, creative, engaging, and beautifully illustrated-- 100% guaranteed to help your kids fall in love with reading.
I bought my own copy years ago, just bought another for a friend's baby shower. I looked over it and think it is great quality-- I'm not sure what the one negative comment below is about. (Perhaps that reviewer did not supervise her child appropriately in the bookstore, or her child is used to reading board books only? I think just about anyone with a toddler would be very hesitant to allow him or her to play with unpurchased books-- with sticky fingers and developing motor skills that sounds like an accident waiting to happen, especially with an interactive book like this one.) This book is sturdier than most normal children's books. With appropriate adult supervision it should last a long time!
Cute book, not recommended.......2004-08-08
Recently I was with my family in a bookstore and, while browsing, selected this book for my 18 month old daughter to look at. Within two minutes (this is not an exaggeration) she had so wrinkled pages and had torn one page that I was forced to purchase the book--this I did because of personal ethics, but I was most unhappy to spend a whopping $13.00 (not including tax) on a book that could not hold up to even three minutes of toddler handling. My daughter is young, but reads all kinds of books (board and paper pages) and treats them well. This book is easily damaged simply because it is not constructed well, or at least not designed for little hands. The flaps must be turned very carefully, even by me. And that is how the book was ripped there in the bookstore--my daughter was simply trying to turn the page, holding the flap where it is logical and most natural to do so, and the flap could not withstand it. Since bringing the book home we have read it together once (trying to get my money's worth) and already I see that there is another flap that will tear similarly--as soon as someone uses just the wrong angle to the flap when attempting to turn it.
I contacted the author of the book with my complaint and he was very understanding, explaining that the publisher has been cheapening the book by using thinner paper and he knew exactly which two pages were too easily ripped. I know that he is not at fault, and it is a cute book (the sticky frog tongues is a clever addition to the usual textures), but it is not manufactured appropriately for the age group to which it is geared.
So, sadly, I cannot recommend the book at all. There are a lot of cute tactile books out there, and this one does not stand out enough to justify having a book that little ones cannot handle themselves.
Very Versatile Book.......2003-03-26
This book teaches so many different things. It has great textures, colors, shapes, and animals. My twin girls love it. They are 22 months now, but we bought this book when they were about 15 months. The best part for them is unfolding the pages! It seems like it wouldn't last, but ours hasn't ripped yet, and we have been pretty hard on it. It is bent up, but that's all. This is the only book that teaches so many different concepts at once. It can be confusing, but once they learn their shapes and colors, you can combine them for even more challenging fun!! I highly recommend this book for toddlers and preschoolers!!
An interactive smorgasbord for babies and young toddlers!.......2003-03-23
Matthew Van Fleet's, "Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings" is a twenty-page, touch-and-feel foldout book about shapes, colors, and animals. It measures approximately 7 ½" x 6 ¼" x 1", and is constructed of heavy cardboard with medium-weight cardstock for the pages and flaps. Fortunately, the pages are sealed on ALL three sides, prohibiting toddler renovations. Accentuated by glossy, white backgrounds the watercolor illustrations are expressive, colorful, and entertaining. The text is large, black, and very basic. It begins on the left side of the book, and consists of two-word phrases such as, "Fuzzy Yellow." On the right, is a "fuzzy" yellow CIRCLE, and the word "circle" is printed next to it. The reader lifts the flap, and sees six yellow ducklings incorporated into the texture. Printed to the side, is the word "ducklings."
The book continues in the same manner with a "Bumpy" Brown TRAINGLE turning into twelve grumpy toads, a "Furry" Gray SQUARE becomes four koala bears, a "Scaly" Green OVAL turns into five playful iguanas, a "Woolly" White RECTANGLE becomes seven bashful sheep, a "Scratchy" Blue CRESCENT turns into six mischievous Sharks, and a "Sticky" Pink LINE becomes eight tongue-tied frogs. In addition, the finale is wonderful. It is a four-page, foldout uniting all of the shapes, colors, and animals together in an amusing parade of color and pattern.
"Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings" is a tactile treasure for infants and young toddlers! From the outset, this book captivates children with peek-a-boo flaps, differing textures, and beginner's text. Children adore this book, and learn by means of word recognition and sensation. One could include COUNTING as an extra feature, as we usually count the animals, and it may be the reason why the author/illustrator purposely depicted them in groups of 4,5,6,7,8, and 12. P.S. the grumpy toads are my personal favorite! I recommend this book for children one-year and up as the interactive feature, (lifting of the flaps) is too advanced for younger babies, however an infant would probably find the images, and textures captivating all the same.

Customer Reviews:
A favorite and great for learning colors!.......2007-10-15
This has been my 2yo daughter's favorite book for 6 months! She is learning her colors too! A fun, never-dull book for toddlers.
Loved this as a child.......2007-09-12
We had this book when I was a child, though I think my parents bought it for my younger sister. Anyway, I loved it even as an older child (i.e. seven years old and so on), and as an adult it still tickles my funny bone. I plan to buy this and other Boynton books for my boy when he's a little older.
My family's favorite Boynton book.......2007-08-13
The concept is simple enough -- recognizing patterns, and recognizing the humor when something doesn't go as planned. This works as a great metaphor for adults, too, because we'll run across plenty of turkeys who screw things up for themselves and others. After all, that's life.
Bad Boynton Book.......2007-06-03
I usually like Boynton books but I'm not a fan of this one. It's subject matter and writing is terrible. "Blue hat, green hat, oops." It's that same sentence repeated for about 6 pages, switching out hat for socks, pants and shoes. There is no story. There's nothing to teach my daughter from reading this book, nor anything that could spark creativity. It's just boring.
the Washington Color School.......2007-05-25
Here in the Washington DC metro area, we parents are always trying to impress other parents with how brilliant our children are. This book is key for that purpose. If your toddler knows colors, he or she can "read" this book with an accuracy that will be the envy of all within hearing. The book also, quite practically, teaches the reading eye to start at the top left and move right. It also teaches the little imp to be a comedian, screaming OOPSIE or WHOOPSIE instead of the orthodox "oops." So higly recommended that I insist you buy one. OOPS, shouldn'ta said that....

What Will Monday the Bullfrog Eat Next!
From the creator of #1 New York Times bestseller Tails and million-copy-selling Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings, Matthew Van Fleet's huggable multiconcept book introduces preschoolers to textures, colors, critters, and the days of the week. When slipped onto a hand, the cuddly bullfrog becomes a beguiling puppet with a mouth that opens wide for every meal.

Customer Reviews:
Get 'Tails' instead.......2007-09-29
I got this book because another Van Fleet book (Tails) has been a run-away hit with the toddlers I know. Incidentally, the book/puppet is larger than I expected, which is neither good or bad, just unexpected.
The first criticism is I was expecting a functional book puppet. While you do stick your hand into the frog and open his mouth, you have to control the pages with your free hand. The pages can be difficult to open wide enough to get a good look at them when there is a hand inside of the puppet part.
Secondly, while most storylines for kids this age are pretty weak, this one was just plain dumb - although the idea sounds promising, the book didn't deliver. It is about the different things a bullfrog eats during the week, with him eating 'you' showing a mirror on the last page. One child went into hysterics at the end when she found out the frog wanted to eat her. Granted, she's not the bravest kid in existence, but I generally try not to frighten little kids out of their wits on a regular basis.
On the positive side, the tactile elements are wonderful, as I've come to expect of Van Fleet.
It made for a nice shower present (for a boy =), but it's not something I'll keep in my kids' bookshelf - and that poor girl who was so frightened still asks about the frog when she comes over. Tails, on the other hand, is used so much that it never has time to get onto the bookshelf. If you don't have Tails, buy that instead. If you already have Tails, I would be content with that instead of getting this one.
They don't come cuter than this!.......2007-06-21
What an absolutely adorable hand puppet book! Excellent choice for a child whose sensory learning is very tactile. Such a sweet story, short, with a great ending. Giggles abound! Would highly recommend it for any child 12 to 36 months. Well worth your time and money! It is made well and will be a great keepsake. Wonderful baby gift or shower gift.

Love this product - it is a puppet with the book in the mouth and a surprise mirror in the back; my granddaughters are going to love it!
Great toy.......2007-04-12
My son loves this book and enjoys all the textures and colors. It also has a mirror in the back for a cute ending. It is bigger than I thought it would be but a ton of fun. FYI, if you join the Borders reward club you can get a coupon for 30% off and use it for this item at your local Borders store. Worth it for the smile on my son's face. I have also bought 3 more as birthday presents and they seem to be a hit! Highly recommend.
One of our favorites.......2007-03-03
We picked up Monday because he just looked fun when we were pregnant and did not really know what to look for in a baby book. Luckily, over our daughter's first year it has developed into her favorite. Now that she is older and can understand the reflection at the end is her's - oh what joy!

My four year old knows "Brown Bear" by heart in English so reading it to him in Spanish is a fun way for him to become familiar with the language. We have the whole series plus "Good Night Moon" in Spanish.
