Book Description

A fascinating compendium of folklore, superstitions, and mythology surrounding the 'little people', including discussions of fairy tradition as it appears in great works of English literature.

1 out of 5 stars A ghastly edition of an otherwise interesting book due to poor typesetting.......2007-08-08

This edition looks like someone typed this up on an early manual typewriter, that was made in the 1800's. Then it was ran off on an old fashioned copy machine, afterwards. The text is splotchy in some parts and parts of letters are missing in others. While some may not be bothered by that, I found it distracting and annoying.

3 out of 5 stars Hard to read...........2006-11-28

This was not an easy to read book. I am guessing that is due to how old it is, and people just don't speak that way anymore. It was interesting to see how people really believed in this and how they handled it. I think I read it a little at a time over a 6 month period.

3 out of 5 stars Historical accounts.......2006-11-13

I hadn't realized that this book was going to be a collection of historical accounts. Nonetheless, it was extensive; somewhat difficult to read as the sources were many and of different nationalities.

You might try a modern-day, directly channeled book I just finished reading, "If You Could Only See .. A Gnome's Story" available here on Amazon, if you are looking to have direct experiences yourself. Written by Christopher Valentine, MBA and Christian von Lahr, PHD. There is also a Healing with the Fairies book by Doreen Virtue that is a more gentle read. This one, The World Guide, goes far to give you a broad world review on the little people from the many perspectives it has collected.

Get them all if you enjoy the subject.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!.......2006-02-01

I am so thrilled to see that this book is still in print. When I was a child, I used to read and re-read an originally published copy (still called The Fairy Mythology then) in her dusty, musty library. I've searched and searched for the book, not even able to recall the title until the other day, when I typed in the original title and came up with the re-print. What a wonderful treat to know that I will be able to own a copy again. It completely cast a mysterious, magical spell over my adolescence. You will love this book.

4 out of 5 stars Mythic tales.......2005-05-24

It's a credit to Thomas Keightley's "World Guide to Gnomes, Fairies, Elves & Other Little People" that it's still a relevant mythologic source today, over a hundred years after it was first published. The stories, explanations and legends are still as informative as they were in 1880, although they are rather restricted.

Okay, "World Guide to Gnomes, Fairies, Elves and Other Little People" sounds like a cutesy title for a Brian Froud-illustrated book. And it's a rather lightweight title for a book with genuine merit -- especially the "little people" part of it, since the elves, fey and gnomes in here are anything but dainty Victorian fairies.

Instead, Keightley focuses on traditional goblins, dwarves and elves -- Scandinavian trolls and beautiful alfar, Germanic Zwerge and kobolds, British fairies, Celtic spirits and seal-men, and the epic sagas that greatly influenced early fantasy authors like J.R.R. Tolkien and George MacDonald. Take a look at the chapter on the "Eddas and Sagas," and it's hard not to think of Middle Earth.

Its one flaw is that it's restricted mostly to Europe -- there's a brief chapter on African superstitions, and one for Judaistic ones. Other than that, nothing that originates outside Europe. While it's understandable, considering the time that Keightley lived in, it's hard not to wonder if he couldn't have found out at least a few other cultural legends.

However, this is a rich source for European myths and legends, especially since Keightley obviously did his research. He includes snippets of untranslated poetry, ballads, and footnotes detailing migratory myths and differing versions. He also summarizes some of the denser material like the two Eddas, which are extremely long and sometimes difficult.

Though Thomas Keightley wrote this a hundred and twenty-five years ago, "The World Guide to Gnomes, Fairies, Elves and Other Little People" is still a valuable and informative resource for anyone interested in European myths and legends. So ignore the title.

5 out of 5 stars Best in a long while.......2001-06-01

A collection of short stories, _Hidden Years_ fills in some missing spots in the storyline, mostly from the time period before the 'Shards'and Kings of the Broken Wheel timeline. It was really nice to see that a story could indeed be covered in the equivalent of one issue of a comic book. My favorites are the story depicted on the cover and the origin story for Skywise. No spoilers here, just go out and get it.

5 out of 5 stars The most spectacular of all Elfquest graphic novels!.......2000-10-16

Wendy is arguably the best comic book artist of our time, and this little gem has got to be her greatest work ever. This is the very first book by the Pinis that I bought. (Which may I recommend that you don't get this first. You will be very confused, even though the stories are great in themselves.) This one book started the Elf-mania in my family. Now, I buy all of them, even the off-the-wall side stories that are more humorous than anything (see "New Blood" and "Worldpool"). It's really great artwork and rich color are the best. And Strongbow is a heartthrob.;)

5 out of 5 stars Perfect 10.......2000-06-01

Wendy Pini has certainly outdone herself! Her artwork has always been versatile, changing to fit the mood of the story. In this graphic novel, she used vivid watercolors to tell the tale. It's amazing! The stories are also superb, in the honored tradition of Elfquest. My favorite story is the one about Tyleet and her adopted human cub, Little Patch. Wendy Pini is definetly my favorite artist! :)

5 out of 5 stars The Pinis are back in a great, flaring nova!.......2000-04-09

In a slightly smaller format than the original paperback volumes, the Elfquest tales that occurred between the great espiodes of the elfin adventures on The World of Two Moons are all presented in full, glaring colors that really blinds your eyes which are more accustomed to the gentler tones of the colorized comic-book collections. Here you meet Strongbow and his wolffriend, Kyavek and her winged boyfriend, Ember and her coming-of-age discoveries, Tyleet and her foster kid, and Skywise and his ill-fated parents. Personally, I feel that the gentle little Tyleet had inherited her mother's child-hunger, so she had a chance to fulfill her aching maternal instincts with an abandoned infant from a nearby human camp. Pretty sappy, in my opinion. But all the Elfquest fans get to unlock even more mysteries about their most favorite elfin characters as well as color-saturated new stories to boot!

5 out of 5 stars An amazing collection of emotional stories about Elfquest!.......1999-06-18

This compelling book contaning 5 of Wendy and Richard Pini's Hidden Years comic books. Which in my opinion are well thought, written, and drawn. These stories can make you cry, and they can help you understand the mysterious world of Elfquest, which few know but love. This must be at the top of every Elfquest lover's list, for it is a very very good book.

I love this book it can be hard sometimes to find adult coloring books that are worth coloring but I love this one.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful coloring book.......2007-03-23

I have given this coloring book to my girls two years in a row. This is an excellent alternative to Disney characters and other more commonly found coloring pages. The creatures in this book are beautiful and contain enough detail to challenge and inspire creativity in an older child, while the quality of the paper can stand the abuse of a toddler. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Love it.......2006-11-10

I love this coloring book, it has a small paragraph for each picture telling about the faeries. I use acrylic paints and it's great

5 out of 5 stars The "Cool" coloring book..........2005-02-21

I have to say, of all the coloring books I purchased for a 2-3 year old this was the one most loved by the adults. The child was happy with all of them, Disney, animals, butterflies, and this in an equal manner... but the grown ups thought this was wonderful. If you have a child who likes fantasy themes, or a teenager who happens to enjoy coloring, or even if you just like coloring books this one is definately a must.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An enchanting read for sure!.......2006-04-26

I enjoyed every page of this book. It is certainly one of the most informative books on the faerie realm I have ever read, packed not only with facts about each kind of elemental but also exercises to help the reader easily make contact with faeries. And I admit I cried off and on throughout this book as well. I dearly love all faeries and elementals, and it is easy to see the author has a heart for them too. If you feel the same, you will find this to be a very special book. One I highly recommend, since it has enriched my life in many ways.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing..........2005-05-04

I was used to Ted Andrews writing in a style that was methodical, approachable, accurate, and mystical. Unfortunately, I do not think he is well acquainted with this subject, and I don't think he is comfortable with working with the Fey. I hold nothing against him--the rest of the works I have read which he authored are very well done. However, I would not recommend his foray into the Faery realms. I believe he needs to do some more work if he truly wants to improve this work. I would encourage him to take some time, meditate, learn, and put out a revised edition of this book at some time in the future.

3 out of 5 stars A different apprach. .......2005-03-01

This book is written awkwardly. Ted Andrew makes an attempt to mix modern style faery communication with the older shamanic approach. It just doesn't work. Though the content is good, very well researched and accurate, this book offers very little information on faeries. It is not too good for reference. For reference on faeries, try Edain's Witch's guide to faery folk. This book is more about how to connect with the faeries, yet the guided meditations are not very effective. Half the book is on meditations and it gets a little boring.

4 out of 5 stars Great book on Faeries.......2003-07-19

This book was one of better books and one of few book printed other than a opinion which from what i seen with other review you will see same.i would get this book just for infomation and just ingore his view go with your heart and also read the legends and myth and then decide.Stewarts books and Mc Coy book A witched guide to fay folk has good infomation. Just do your reseach.Still a good book.

Blessed Be;

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Informative & Fun!.......2002-06-20

This is one of my favorite Ted Andrews' books. It is easy to read, fun and very well organized. It lays a foundation so that people can begin to reconnect to Nature and the Faerie World. The exercises are amazingly effective and he inspires the reader to explore the spirits of Nature. I have read his books and attended his workshops, including workshops on this particular book and his depth of knowledge and experience is amazing. And yet he makes the material accessible to everyone, regardless of their experiences. He helps the reader to remember what we all once knew. He inspires us to seek out new doorways to this magical realm.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite!.......2007-01-21

This a beautiful version of one of my favorite stories. It is just perfect for read-aloud. Must have!

4 out of 5 stars "No Longer Cobblers Will We Be!".......2006-04-26

Everyone knows the story of the elves and the shoemaker - the poor cobbler who is visited by a pair of elves who (for reasons that are purposefully never revealed) help him out by crafting exquisite pairs of shoes. After the shoemaker is made wealthy, he and his wife stake out the workshop and discover their secret benefactors. Seeing how poorly they are dressed, they make for them tiny clothes and shoes, and delighted with their gifts, the elves leave forever as mysteriously as they came.

It is an unforgettable story of anonymous charity and giving, and children all across the world love it for its simplicity and mystery. Jim LaMarche is utterly faithful to the old Grimm's version of the tale and using vibrant colour throughout his illustrations.

Jim LaMarche's illustrations are lovely when depicting the old shoemaker and his wife, as an old and loving couple in the warmth and cleanliness of their little shop. However, the elves themselves were not quite to my taste, though I have no doubt they'll appeal to most parents reading to their children. Rather than show them as miniscule adults, they are portrayed as small children with pixie-features. However, to my eyes they looked very modern, especially the girl who actually reminded me of a Jan McLean doll.

However, this is a personal gripe due to memories of my childhood version of the tale in which the elves looked adult, mischievous and vaguely wicked, making it all the more interesting that they were helping an elderly couple in need. Anyone else who picks up this book will be certain that they've found the definitive version of the famous Grimm's fairytale.

5 out of 5 stars excellent retelling of classic Grimm fairy tale.......2005-08-20

This book is a wonderful companion to any collection of classic fairy tales. The illustrations are lively and charming; the tale is retold simply and well. This book also does an excellent job of conveying what a cobbler does, if you are looking for some books to bring history alive. Not many children now think twice about where their shoes come from. Above all else, the illustrations really bring the tale alive. The quality of the expressions on each character's face is truly incredible and any small child can easily "read" along by seeing the delight on the faces of the customers, the patience and careful work done by the elves (you can practically hear them whistle as they work), the astonishment and gratitude felt by the shoemaker and his wife. This heartwarming story is a must for any preschool or first grade classroom.

5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book & Great Story.......2000-02-28

The illustrations in this book are wonderful. A true artist. Very cleverly hides the elves in each page and its much fun for a 3 year old to find them and the mice and birds too.

Book Description

As I became a creature of the empty tunnels, survival became easier and more difficult all at once. I gained in the physical skills and experience necessary to live on. I could defeat almost anything that wandered into my chosen domain. It did not take me long, however, to discover one nemesis that I could neither defeat nor flee. It followed me wherever I went–indeed, the farther I ran, the more it closed in around me. My enemy was solitude, the interminable, incessant silence of hushed corridors.

What more to say than, GET THIS BOOK, IT'S ONE OF THE BEST SALVATORE BOOKS OUT THERE!! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, AND LOVE IT!!

5 out of 5 stars The Underdark awaits!.......2007-08-31

Exile is book 2 in The Dark Elf Trilogy.

Exile tells the story of Drizzt outside of the Drow Cities in the open wilderness of the Underdark. For the ten years following his abandoning his house, he is left with no one but his faithful Guenhwyvar, a magical Panther he had acquired in Homeland. He is also met with great dangers that he meets with the business ends of his scimitars. Struggling with conflicting emotions, which involve his failure in Menzoberranzan and a deep grief for his father and friend Zaknafein, he makes his way to the surface to face newer dangers.

As always, Salvatore writes an amazing adventure.

5 out of 5 stars great series.......2007-02-23

just a thorughly enjoyable book, series, main charatcer. drizzt is very likeable and learning about the world he lives is very interesting and intriguing.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Book!.......2006-12-03

Exile, the second book in the Dark Elf Trilogy and a great follow-up novel to Homeland. Drizzt's epic tale only becomes better as it goes on. After reading Homeland, I was very eager to get my hands on Exile. So, the next day I went to my local library and checked out a copy. This book introduces us to new places in the Underdark other than Menzoberranzan. I finished the book and could not wait to read the last book in the trilogy. This book was just as good as Homeland and provided more insight into the Drow way of life.

5 out of 5 stars Great follow up to Homeland, and another underdark masterpiece.......2006-09-02

This book follows well the footsteps of Homeland. It continues the story of our favorite dark elf and goes further than Homeland in the sense that it breaks out into the vast underdark beyond Menzoberranzan. While I thouroughly enjoyed this book, I did somewhat miss the house politics and negative energy that filled the pages of Homeland. Trust me though, this book does not dissapoint. There is still plenty of Drow deceit to be wrought here, and its told in amazing fashion by one of fantasies best authors.

The characters are well developed and very interesting. One of the most interesting characters in the book may be Clacker, a Pech turned Hook Horror that becomes an intricate part of the story later on in the tale. Zin-Carla is also an amazing "character" if you will, as it takes on a form that we all know well from the previous book. Overall Exile was a fun read that showed me a side of Drizzt Homeland did not. A Drow succumbing to his dark side, the hunter, in an effort to survive the wraths of the underdark without his kin. Recommended! A must read in the bridge from Homeland to Sojourn.

    Book Description

Late in the seventeenth century, Robert Kirk, an Episcopalian minister in the Scottish Highlands, set out to collect his parishioners’ many striking stories about elves, fairies, fauns, doppelgangers, wraiths, and other beings of, in Kirk’s words, “a middle nature betwixt man and angel.” For Kirk these stories constituted strong evidence for the reality of a supernatural world, existing parallel to ours, which, he passionately believed demanded exploration as much as the New World across the seas. Kirk defended these views in The Secret Commonwealth, an essay that was left in manuscript when he died in 1692. It is a rare and fascinating work, an extraordinary amalgam of science, religion, and folklore, suffused with the spirit of active curiosity and bemused wonder that fills Robert Burton’s Anatomy of Melancholy and the works of Sir Thomas Browne. The Secret Commonwealth is not only a remarkable document in the history of ideas but a study
of enchantment that enchants in its own right.

First published in 1815 by Sir Walter Scott, then re-edited in 1893 by Andrew Lang, with a dedication to Robert Louis Stevenson, The Secret Commonwealth has long been difficult to obtain—available, if at all, only in scholarly editions. This new edition modernizes the spelling and punctuation of Kirk’s little book and features a wide-ranging and illuminating introduction by the critic and historian Marina Warner, who brings out the originality of Kirk’s contribution and reflects on the ongoing life of fairies in the modern mind.

4 out of 5 stars Abacar the Wizard: Fun Fantasy Adventure.......2007-03-15

Abacar the Wizard is a wonderful story of a child magical prodigy. The setting, although fairly typical of the fantasy genre (i.e.: a world very much like our own at some point in medieval history, with magic that is quite real) is handled well, and described in such a way that does not jar with the world we have read about in mythology. The characters are interesting, and the plot never stops moving. Kids (of all ages) will enjoy this story.

Where _The Lord of the Rings_ is written by a linguist (and it shows); where _The Chrinicles of Narnia_ is written by a theologian (and it shows); _Abacar the Wizard_ is written by a fan of fantasy, action/adventure, and young-adult fiction (and it shows). The book is very approachable, quickly paced, and reads (in many ways) like a movie script (you can almost see the scene transition fades as you read).

Well done. I am looking forward to Volume 2 (and 3, and 4, and 5, and...)

5 out of 5 stars Flashing blades and epic battles!.......2005-12-12

Abacar the Wizard is filled with amazing sword fights, wizard duels, enormous battles involving tens of thousands of combatants and a huge variety of interresting creatures and monsters.
It takes place on an alternate Earth, called the "Magical Earth," where wizards, dragons and unicorns live. I rather liked this aproach, because it made it a lot easier to imagine the many different locations (since they take place in Europe).
The characters are fascinating, including Abacar himself who is an extremely powerful wizard boy capable of laying waste to whole armies with cataclysmic lightning bolt spells. There are also several dwarves, humans, elves and sinister goblin characters. All of which are quite fascinating.

The plot of the story builds and builds into two epic, major battles between an army of Dwarves and an army of orcs, goblins and dragons. Very suspensefull and thrilling.

5 out of 5 stars Best fiction book I have yet read.......2004-07-27

This book has it all, including a good plot, fascinating characters, and tons of action. My favorite character is a powerful goblin warrior named Galgu-Ra. He is also known as the "Slayer of Armies," because he can take on a hundred swordsmen and win. He has red skin, white hair and black runes tattooed all over his body. The runes have magical properties which give him incredible strength and regeneration powers. These combined with a couple of magical swords make him a very formidable opponent. Besides that he is just cool. He leaps into battle at the first opportunity because he loves to fight.

Abacar is cool too. He can do just about anything with his spells, including changing a cup into a tiger that obeys his every command.

The list of fascinating characters is huge, including a pair of evil witches (who eat children), a unicorn named firemane (which is black with a red mane), a fierce dwarf warrior named Pywaket, and a lady elf archer named Stephanie. All of the characters undergo a lot of development during the book by aquiring new magical items and powers.

If you like action, adventure and fantasy, buy Abacar the Wizard. You will love it!

5 out of 5 stars Incredible story of a powerful wizard boy.......2003-05-01

This story begins in the "Magical Earth," which is just like the normal Earth around 584 AD or so. However the Magical Earth is populated by magical creatures and wizards. An army of goblins and orcs is sweeping across the land. In their path is a dwarven castle/city called Dwarven Pass. The goblins, who are armed with flying warships, wolf-riding infantry, and a hundred thousand orcish infantrymen, attack in a swarm during the night. Only the power of a small boy is able to turn the tide.

I have read several books like this but none of them have so realistically portrayed a midevil battle. Siege machines, bows, crossbows, and even slings are used by the orcs and goblins. If you want to experience a realisic and yet magical battle I would recommend you buy this book.

4 out of 5 stars ABACAR THE WIZARD.......2002-09-01

...ABACAR THE WIZARD is full of wonderful magic and adventure. It will thrill the young kids who are so fascinated with Harry
Potter and bring out the child in any adult who has ever dreamed of magic, wizards, goblins, elves and any other part of Fantasy
    they've imagined.

Mr. Erenberger has an unlimited imagination and an awsome writing voice. He accomplished stirring my excitement with his
clever characters and his thrilling storyline.

I only had one small problem with the book and that was the editing of the dialogue. When one character was speaking, it was
hard to figure out which one it was with hardly a break between sentences. I hope this works out better for Mr. Erenberger on
book Two because I for one would love to keep reading his ABACAR THE WIZARD BOOKS! I recommend them highly to
anyone who loves a great Fantasy! Review by: Stacey Bucholz

    Book Description

Hillary doesn't believe all the mean things she hears about Sara-Kate. Sure, she wears weird clothes and she lives in a dumpy house, but if Sara-Kate's as bad as everyone says, how could she take such good care of the elf village in her backyard? She and Hillary spend hours fixing the tiny stick houses and the miniature Ferris wheel so the elves won't move away. But as Hillary is drawn further into Sara-Kate's world, she learns there are other mysteries besides the elves. Why doesn't anyone ever see Sara-Kate's mother? And why isn't anyone allowed in her house? This updated edition will bring new life to Janet Taylor Lisle's best-selling novel.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Bittersweet reality, not fantasy.......2007-10-17

This is a story of two young girls - Hillary, fortunate and comfortable in her family home, and her backyard neighbor, Sara-Kate, poor and outcast and forced to take care of herself. It is a story told convincingly in the voice of Hillary, as she slowly enters first the magical world of Sara-Kate's imagination, and then the cold and deprived world of Sara-Kate's real-life situation. The ending is not a happy one, but neither is it hopeless or overly sad ending.

My nine-year-old daughter told me that she thought it was a very well written book, but the ending was not satisfying to her. She's correct, it is not a "satisfying" ending, but it is probably the truest and best ending for all that. My daughter failed to appreciate fully the transformation of Hillary, so that the open-ended last page seemed to dangle into uncertainty. For adults and more mature readers, this open ending is a sign that Hillary has moved forward and beyond her once-ordinary self.

I am surprised by the range of reactions to this book from kid reviewers - some kids taking it mostly at face value, as a story of mystery and imagination, and only a few seeing that it is mostly about friendship, emotional vulnerability, trust, and the sometimes unfairness of life. Personally, I think it is an excellent book, but I would recommend it only for middle school and more mature grade school kids. Younger and less mature readers will miss out on too much, failing to understand the deeper meaning.

If you are familiar with another Newbery Honor book, "The Hundred Dresses" by Eleanor Estes, then I think you'll know where this book is coming from. Afternoon of the Elves is also about imagination in the face of poverty and unintentional childhood cruelty, and about the redeeming emotions of the central character, who comes to see things in a new way, although perhaps a bit too late. I strongly recommend "The Hundred Dresses" for ages 7-11, and "Afternoon of the Elves" for ages 9-14.

5 out of 5 stars Great book teaches about acceptance.......2007-06-18

I love this book. I read it to my class every year. In the story, two neighbor girls become unlikely friends. Sara-Kate is not fashionably dressed and does not have friends at school. Hillary lives a very "normal" life and is part of a clique. As Hillary spends time in Sara-Kate's messy yard, perfect for the elves she longs to see, she learns to question what "normal" means. She begins to see that there is more than one way to look at something and to be more accepting of other points of view. The ending leads to great class discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pulled Me In.......2006-10-23

From the very start I knew I would love this book. I was right! It is full of adventure and suspence. At some moments it is sad, at some moments it is scary, and at some moments it is happy. It is about two verry diferent girls who become friends and soon they realise that they are more similar than they think. They are named Hilary and Sarah Kate. Hillary is clean and normal. Sarah Kate has a backyard cluttered and messy. The two girls play together in Sarah Kate's yard. They take care of an elfe village with little houses, pools, ferris wheels, and gardens. Sarah Kate has a verry short temper, but Hillary learns that nomader what Sarah Kate will always forgive her. Sarah Kate never talks about her family or herself, just about the elves. She naver gets cold, never menchions her mother, never invites Hillary into herhouse, and never goes to Hillary's house herself. Sarah Kate runs errands for her mom all over town by herself. Just whene the girls become better friends than they ever where before somthing tragic happens. Can Hillary run the elfe village byh herself?

I think this book is wonderful for boys and girls. I could not put the book down and finished it in one day.

4 out of 5 stars The Afternoon of the Elves.......2005-10-11

This book is really good! I really enjoyed reading it! In the book there's two girls named Hilary and Sarah-Kate. They find something magical in Sarah-Kate's backyard. You'll have to read the book to find out what it's about! IT'S GREAT!

    1 out of 5 stars Deep Downer.......2005-05-30

Janet Taylor Lisle hooks you in with a story that evokes the best of popular fantasy with some Pippi Longstocking thrown in. Then she sucker punches you with a depressing dose of misfortune devoid of fantasy and stripped down to a cold, sad version of reality that shocks and confounds. The denouement involves mental illness, neglect and orphaning. For more on this kind of approach to youth literature, check out "Welcome to Lizard Motel" by Barbara Feinberg.

College. We all know what college is all about right? Either we have been there ourselves, or know people who have and heard their stories. Well, we were wrong! In Applied Mythology, Jody Lynn Nye shows us just what we missed because of all that studying we did and those frat and sorority parties we attended. Applied Mythology is an omnibus collection of Mythology 101, Mythology Abroad, and Higher Mythology. There are elves in the University Library! Also Leprechauns, sprites, and a few other things. Keith Doyle is a business major who still believes in myths and legends. Whenever he has to write a paper for a class he writes it on aliens and elves. Imagine his surprise and delight when he discovers the little people living in the sub-basement of the old library. Also, imagine his anger in realizing that they will be forced to leave when the library is torn down for the modernization of the campus. Finally, imagine his horror when he realizes just who has been leading this campaign for the modernization of the campus-him!

5 out of 5 stars This is an awesome read!.......2004-04-13

I recieved this book as a gift for my twelfth birthday. I thought it was way too long, so I put off reading it for a few months. Finally I picked it up and almost immidiately fell in love with the story. This series is one of the best fantasy series I've ever read!

The main character is hilarious. I read so much (about a book a day) that not many stories surprize or delight me anymore. Not so with this novel. I was laughing out loud, again and again. I'm now twenty and this is still one of my favorite books.

Fun enough for the kids, yet interesting and mature enough to not throw off the adults.

And don't be thrown off by the overall rating. It's just look cause some numskull forgot to include his rating with the book description.

Read this book! You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars The most college fun since I graduated.......2001-01-26

These books are great fun and reading through this three book combo was like eating literary ice cream. I only wish my college days had been half as much fun as reading about Keith's after he discovers the little people and their magic hiding on campus. Read these well written romps when you want to be in a good mood, they'll get you there.
