3 out of 5 stars APA Publication Manual.......2007-10-17

This book has a lot of info included in it. Sometimes takes a bit to find what you are looking for, but when you do it is all spelled out for you. A must have if you are writing in APA format.

3 out of 5 stars Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Fifth Edition.......2007-10-05

This book is o.k. but has way too much information for the average college student who just wants the bare basic facts to get through a writing assignment. It took longer to find the information I needed than it did to write the paper.
I am glad that I chose the spiral format in that it is extremely easy to work with as opposed to the traditional bounded style book.
For someone who plans on writing a lot of papers this book is a must.

2 out of 5 stars Buy the software instead!.......2007-10-04

If you have to write papers in APA style I recommend just buying the software instead. For what it is, I am sure it is fabulous, but working full time and taking a masters program I don't have time to look up how to do all the notation, etc. Just buy the software program and it makes it much easier.

3 out of 5 stars Book Review.......2007-10-02

This book isn't the best APA manual out there. They only give one sample of an APA paper. In addition, it is somewhat difficult to navigate. But, this book is "THE" APA manual and so it the most accurate book for APA format.

5 out of 5 stars APA Publication Manual.......2007-09-30

This is an excellent source for how to properly document refrences and sources uses APA format.

3 out of 5 stars Easy reference guide for conversation.......2007-09-26

An older booklet for which Amazon charges three times the cover price is a good reference for conversational Spanish and small enough for taking with you.

4 out of 5 stars A Super Aid.......2007-09-05

This little book has been a big help in using Spanish as I help and transport the sick and elderly. It has a high percentage of the expressions you will use (and need).

This is a very Basic book for beginners in the Spanish Language. It was helpful but there are better books on the language.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Easy, resturaunt quality food........2007-01-11

This book has a good variety of dishes to choose from. They are easy to prepare and most don't require a lot of preparation time. Every thing from the main dishes to the desserts are delicious. Even though every recipe has a name brand ingredient, store brands work just as well in their place.

5 out of 5 stars great recipes........2006-12-14

I thought the above comment was absolutely ridiculous. What people want to know is if this is a good cookbook. I don't think anyone is interested in if brand names are going to be the future of culinary arts. Broken down: good recipes, use generic if you are opposed to "brand names." The recipes range from fast and tasty to complicated and savory. I love this cookbook.

5 out of 5 stars Great recipes!!.......2006-09-22

I have owned this book for years now and have never made anything from it that was not yummy!! I usually ignore the actual brand names and just use the brand that I like or that I feel is the best quality. My mother and sister also own this book and they both love it, too.

3 out of 5 stars Do you want your brands served up by the marketing department?.......2006-03-30

With all the new channels for distribution available and considering all of the innovations in communications (both message and medium) the stakes are not only increasing rapidly -they have been moved. My opinion, the future will very likely be populated by brands that are defined less by big marketing firms and more by real people. This book seems to be ignoring the future.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Let the buyer beware.......2007-09-16

Even as I type this review I have five, yes, 5 Bottomline Invoices on my desk (I've returned the books, but their accounting department is apparently inadequately staffed). Against my better judgment, but seduced by masterful marketing emails, I ordered Bottomline Book of Moneysavers ($35.92), Healthbreakthroug 2007 ($35.95),Prescription Alternatives ($35.92), Bottomline Uncommon Cures ($33.91), and Superhealing, Unlimited ($39.91).

I, perhaps fortunately, didn't have time to peruse all of them, but the two I looked at were hundreds of pages of brief paragraphs, nuggets of information, teasers. Supposedly written by experts, but there would be an opposing opinion by another expert on the same subject on another page.

I found it very frustrating, both not enough information, and way, way too much on too many topics. Much of the information is common sense or widely disseminated.

In reality, I may very well purchase these books, but certainly NOT from Bottomline. The Amazon Marketplace serves me well. I firmly believe, given the quality of these books, there will be an endless supply of "Like New" for pennies on the dollar.

1 out of 5 stars below zero.......2007-08-12

In general, I consider all Bottom Line books a SCAM. I subscribed to their newsletter and instead of sending info, I was sent the same come-on's that if i paid more i could get the answers. They usually tell you things that you already know, if you have been reading health reports and these are things you can get on the internet.

4 out of 5 stars "Every" Imaginable Health-Related Topic Covered.......2007-08-06

This may not be exactly the world's biggest treasury, but it sure is comprehensive! It discusses not only intuitively-obvious topics related to health, but also such things as emotional health, light therapy, antibacterial soap, giving advice to others, snoring, the onset of puberty, lactose intolerance, longevity, insomnia, health-wise computer use, various alternative therapies, etc.

There is varied discussion of conventional treatments. For instance, Luvox (Fluvoxamine) usually helps compulsive gamblers (p. 459). The Water Pik is said to be the best adjunct to regular and prolonged tooth brushing (p. 371).

Every topic in this book has its own author. Dr. Kenneth Cooper, who wrote AEROBICS in 1968, now advocates non-strenuous exercise, although he himself maintains a running regimen (reminiscent of his earlier "Cooper's Poopers"). He says that a 30-minute brisk walk, done 5 times a week, constitutes sufficient exercise for the adult (pp. 375-376). Excessive exercise risks injuries.

To test the ability of vitamins to dissolve in the intestine, one should do the vinegar-dissolution test (pp. 536--537). If a vitamin pill doesn't dissolve in vinegar heated to 100 F within 45 minutes, it won't dissolve inside you. However, proof of dissolution may not necessarily be proof of absorption in the intestine, nor of bioavailability at the cellular level.

5 out of 5 stars I bought this here after seeing the infomercial.......2007-05-22

I give it a thumbs up. I've tried many of the suggestions throughout the book on friends and family and it's going on a shelf in with my collections to refer to. A must have, especially at some of the prices available here!

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2007-05-17

I paid only 4.00 but I still consider it a waste of money. I feel sorry for the people who pay $39 plus shipping on the infomercial.

5 out of 5 stars everyday victory for everyday people.......2007-07-21

This book gives positive reinforcement to those persons participating in the First Place weight loss program. I recommend ths book to anyone who might be considering participating in the Christian based program.

5 out of 5 stars Spiritual warfare--coming to a refrigerator near you.......2007-02-02

Wow! This is an excellent study--the second I have done in this series. The first was okay, but this one addressed issues in my life and in the life of the rest of the group that we all needed to work on. Working through each day's section of the study only took half an hour, but it dealt in refreshing ways with the topic of spiritual warfare. The accompanying memory verses were very relevant. The first one kept me going throughout: "What I am asking you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach." This study is not so much about transforming your waist line as it is changing you from the inside (heart, attitude, thoughts) outward. Everyone in our group, without exception found these studies to be outstanding.

4 out of 5 stars good, but similar to other FP studies.......2006-03-09

So far, I'm enjoying the First Place program and the Bible Studies. This is our second study, and while it's easy and keeps me focused on my goal of keeping Christ first place in my life, the second study is not that different from the first. They aren't real deep studies, so they're perfect for someone who's just starting a new routine of daily Bible study. Others might want to get something deeper to use alongside the First Place studies. EVfEP is a great follow up to Giving Christ First Place.

5 out of 5 stars Everyday Victory for Everyday People.......2005-10-15

This is the second of the First Place Bible studies that I have done. I find it easy to use, not consuming too much time, but providing MUCH food for thought. I especially love the CD's that accompany the studies that help with scripture memorization.

5 out of 5 stars Another Victory in the First Place series!.......2005-03-29

They've done it again. The First Place bible studies continue to be my favorites. I love them because studies are easy to do, each lesson takes about 5 to 10 minutes each day. But they keep you thinking & learning all day long! Plus the Scripture Memory CD helps you learn 10 verses throughout the study. This one had a bit more hokey-sounding music, it was still good though. I highly recommend ordering this study & looking into joining an actual First Place group.

5 out of 5 stars O My Word!!!! A Must READ!!!.......2007-10-17

I borrowed this book from a friend!!! I read it in one night!! There is a series of emotions: Anger, FEAR, Frustration, Happy, Sad!!! I know that this book is fiction, but there is someone out there who has lived this life!!! The ending had me in tears, so was the person I borrowed it from, she was crying on the bus on the way to get her car!!! LOL..But GOD has a purpose for EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHING!!!Anyway I have to purchase for myself because I can and will read again!!! It was great!!! Hats off to Tanika!!!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent read.......2007-10-17

Tanika Lynch great job! I purchased this book based on Amazon and customer reviews and after I was done reading it I understand why this book was rated 4 & 5 stars. The characters were well developed with a very interesting plot. Many emotions will come over you while reading this book from being mad, sad, happy, and even possibly disgusted. But overall this was a very good read, I was not disappointed at all.

5 out of 5 stars More fiction about prostitutes.......2007-10-14

If you would like to read more fiction about prostitutes, you may be interested in Naked in Haiti: A sexy morality tale about tourists, prostitutes & politicians.

3 out of 5 stars Ummm...It was ok........2007-10-13

True, it only took me a few hours to read this book. The plot was very good, but it kinda pissed me off when I thought about the girl only being 15 and she was sleeping wit a grown a** man. All in all, I'm not giving up on Lynch, she really has potential.

    Book Description

Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has gained wide acceptance as a new diagnostic technique in adult acquired heart disease because of its relatively non-invasive nature and its high image quality compared with transthoracic echocardiography. With the introduction of smaller transesophageal probes, the use of TEE to display cardiac anatomy and assess surgical repair in infants and children with complex congenital heart disease has become possible. This new book provides an authoritative introduction to all aspects of the procedure. It will be invaluable to all paediatric cardiologists and adult cardiologists who wish to use TEE in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with congenital heart disease. It will also be of interest to cardiac surgeons and anaesthetists who use TEE in the perioperative period.

    Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

3 out of 5 stars Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    Book Description

In the 1920s Germany was in the grip of social and political turmoil: its citizens were disillusioned by defeat in World War I, the failure of revolution, the disintegration of their social system, and inflation of rampant proportions. Curiously, as this important book shows, these years of upheaval were also a time of creative ferment and innovative accomplishment in literature, theater, film, and art.
Glitter and Doom is the first publication to focus exclusively on portraits dating from the short-lived Weimar Republic. It features forty paintings and sixty drawings by key artists, including Otto Dix, Max Beckmann, and George Grosz. Their works epitomize Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity), in particular the branch of that new form of realism called Verism, which took as its subject contemporary phenomena such as war, social problems, and moral decay. Subjects of their incisive portraits are the artists’ own contemporaries: actors, poets, prostitutes, and profiteers, as well as doctors, lawyers, businessmen, and other respectable citizens. The accompanying texts reveal how these portraits hold up a mirror to the glittering, vital, doomed society that was obliterated when Hitler came to power.

Finally an excellent review of what the first World War did to German culture and psyche. This book lays it all out. Hitler was a logical consequence. Unfortunately the Western world did not pay enough attention to these portentious signs. The book has beautiful color reproductions, great detailed commentary on each artist featured and enaough historical commentary to make it all plausible.

    5 out of 5 stars A beautiful exhibition.......2007-04-08

This is the catalogue for a beautiful exhibition held at the Met last year. The paintings reproduced here are among the best examples of the New Objectivity, a movement that was able to depict the atmosphere, the soul, the world of the Weimar Republic, that brief time span when pre-war Germany enjoyed freedom in the arts and in the minds. These gripping paintings show how ultimately doomed that world was and how the artists were the first to sense the tragic developments that were to succeed it. The front cover, a detail of one of Christian Schad's best known paintings, is a perfect illustration of a society that seems to have enjoyed life knowing that death would come too soon, with the end of that joyful and poetic decadence that was the Berlin of the 1920's.

5 out of 5 stars Glitter and Doom.......2007-03-22

Twice viewed the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum here in New York. German art in the 20s is raw, obscene and decadent. A raucus reflection on hard times there. They had just suffered WW1, in the midst of fascism, insane inflation, etc.
Highlight: Otto Dix is a wild artist, forever a favorite now. Also a DaDa artist.
I am a frequent art museum visitor. Therefore, in my opinion, this catalogue did the show great justice which is not aways the case.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful catalog for.......2007-03-08

The BEST museum show I have seen in a long time. Sabine Rewald is a truly great curator, the book is smart and well designed, great color reproductions.

4 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with German Expressionism.......2007-01-29

How can you say "no" to Otto Dix?? Well...you can't! The actual exhibit at the Met was good (although I thought it'd be bigger) and relatively informative, but the book gets into depths the exhibit couldn't. Ideally you should see the exhibit and thoroughly read the book. You can't quite get the experience of seeing the works within the book, and you can't exactly get the knowledge of just reading the little blurbs that are glued beside each piece in the exhibit.

The book explores the themes of German life before the world turned on itself and the second world war exploded. For the money it's worth the dive into the celebrated, vastly entertaining, stunningly morbid and little studied area of German Expressionism. It's not too late...go out and there and see the exhibit. And then buy the book, since that's what the Met would like you to do.

    Product Description

African Friends and Money Matters grew out of frustrations that Westerners experience when they travel and work in Africa. Africans have just as many frustrations relating to the Westerners in their midst. Each uses and manages money and other resources in very different ways, and these differences create many misunderstandings and frictions.

The author deals with everyday life in Africa. He first introduces the very different goals of African and Western economic systems and then presents ninety observations of African behaviors related to money matters. Explanatory comments are given that show how each one works out in real life. He illustrates his and others' experiences with anecdotes from across the continent. Drawings by two African artists add further clarity to the text as they capture Africans and Westerners in authentic situations. The result is that the reader is able to make sense of customs that at first seem incomprehensible.

This book will be of interest to Westerners living, working, or traveling in sub-Saharan Africa: business, government, diplomatic, and NGO personnel, religious workers, journalists, development sociologists, and tourists. The audience also includes professors and students in African studies. Africans will also be interested for what it reveals about Western culture and many of the significant ways Westerners react to Africa.

Essential reading for any Westerner going to live in Africa. Might also be useful to Africans living in the West, or with Western friends and colleagues.

4 out of 5 stars A better understanding of African culture.......2007-07-18

David Maranz describes a variety of experiences which finally ends up being a tapestry of African culture. Reading this book helps explain why so much African aid is misdirected, misspent and misappropriated.

Anyone wanting to gain a deeper understanding of Africa's problems must read this book. At times there is some redundancy in the anecdotes related. But overall it is a valuable book.

5 out of 5 stars So Much to Learn About Our African Friends.......2007-05-21

I purchased this book because I interact with people from Kenya who are in a partnership with our Presbytery (district church organization) and everything I read in this book rings true with my experience. Now, instead of thinking "they just want our money" or "they're always asking" I can look at the frequent requests as a difference in our outlook on money and personal relationships. There is a richness in their attitudes that I can appreciate and I can learn to respond in more thoughtful ways that express our cultural viewpoint while accepting their community understanding of the use of resources, especially money. How much we have to learn from one another!
This book is easy to understand, practical, and caring.

5 out of 5 stars At Last an Explanation for My Own African Experiences.......2006-11-10

I have had difficulty understanding why my African brothers and sisters are not good at being accountable for funds. This book explains how overriding, compelling short-term needs have culturally biased use and thinking with respect to budgets and resource allocation.

This insight is worth the price of the book. The African vs the Western thought format is tedious at times. But nevertheless, this book is a good read with many stories that illustrate the points of how Africans look at money.

The book has no strong formula how to deal with the sense of shared possession of money in informal community structures - you are either never accepted or must share (all) money in a communal needs concept. Saving for future unyet specified need is an extravagance beyond the African culture's comprehension.

To be accountable to Western donors, organizations need accountability. Either Africans need extensive training and coaching in Western budget and project management concepts or denied access to funds when an accounting will occur.

5 out of 5 stars Now Africa makes a lot more sense.......2006-07-31

This is an incisive, sociological story that grips like a good novel.

In the musical "My Fair Lady", Professor Henry Higgins when realizing that he cannot control his "project" student, Eliza Doolittle, sings lamenting "Why can't a woman be more like a man..." It is very easy for us born into a certain culture to have that feeling about particularly 3rd world cultures, and especially about sub-Saharan Africa. Westerners (North Americans and Europeans) often come away from Africa perplexed about life-style and ways of doing things. "Why do they...." and "How do they..." preface our questions when we think of actions we observe that seem counter-productive or may appear to "shoot a society in the foot." Why might money given for fertilizer to be purchased in May, instead be spent on a family wedding in April? How can one be a friend without seeming like a "sugar-daddy"? How can anyone maintain 40 "very-close friends"?

David Maranz, an anthropologist with 25 years experience working in Senegal with the Summer Institute of Linguistics, has written an introduction to the whys and hows of African life, based on his experience and numerous interviews he has had with both native Africas and Westerners living in Africa. This is an "Aha!" type of book, some of which may apply to societies in other countries as well. Dr. Maranz's discoveries are fascinating and often entertaining. Better yet, they provide important answers and background necessary for the respectful and productive interaction of drastically different cultures. He is clear to make the point that his assessment is not a one-size-fits-all in describing the many countries and multiple tribes within countries of Africa. This book is not complicated reading, but serves as an introduction to those curiosities and differences we have with the cultures of a large continent

This book is a MUST READ for anyone who has been to Africa, will be visiting Africa, knows anyone in Africa, or who has any interest in Africa and world affairs. It would also be helpful to native Africans wishing to better understand Western culture. This information may also suggest why what has perhaps worked well for African groups for centuries, may not work so well in the future.
