Book Description
A best-seller for 35 years
A timeless classic that has taught generations of artistsand will teach generations more
When it was originally published in 1970, How to Draw What You See zoomed to the top of the publisher's best-seller listand it has remained there ever since. "I believe that you must be able to draw things as you see themrealistically," wrote Rudy de Reyna in this introduction. Today, generations of artists have learned to draw what they see, to truly capture the world around them, using de Reyna's methods. How to Draw What You See shows artists how to recognize the basic shape to draw the object, no matter how much detail it contains.

Great book.......2007-05-18
This book is wonderful. I've been drawing ever since I was little, and it is def. helping me sharpen my drawings skills. Even if you don't know how to draw and want to learn-this is a great way to start. The author explains things very well.
Lots of useful information.......2007-04-10
A good book for learning to draw the outdoors. Was especially helpful to my teenage son in Art class.
draw what you can see.......2007-03-27
I am just amazed at how quickly i received these books, i just wish the freight wasn't quite as dear, I would do much more, I give art classes in my studio and am on a limited budget, so to be able to offer these books at a cheaper rate is great , the condition of the books was terrific and have no hesitation in telling other people about this site, which i have done, the choice of art books seem to be much larger then here in Australia and especially the fact that we can get them secondhand in good condition is a plus..... thank you /very happy customer
Excellent.......2007-03-19
This book is excellent for those who want to learn more about drawing. This book is worth buying!
Good resource.......2007-02-15
This is a good book to help you define and sharpen your drawing skills. Even if you think you can't draw, give this book a try. It helps you to see what you're drawing instead of trying to draw what you think you saw. Highly recommended, with many projects in the book to use as practice.
Customer Reviews:
Easy and fun.......2007-05-13
This book is cute to look at, easy to follow, and the colorful, fun pictures are wonderful. We have this for my son, but all of his friends (girls and boys, 6 years old) want to draw everything from every page and they can do it very well. Steps are simple to master for ages as young as 4, and the book helps build confidence because the kids can really draw what is shown. Variations are easy too. Perfect book to have laying around to encourage children to try drawing. Great gift idea!
amazing!!!.......2007-04-22
The instruction is simple and easy to follow and all makes sense. The minute I saw it I knew it'd work. The minute my 6 years old daughter laid her eyes on it she fell in love with it. Not only can she draw a lot better than before, even I could use some help from this book when requested by my 2 years old son to draw a truck. Is there any more book like this?
6 Year old girl loves it!.......2007-01-10
It's been two weeks since we gave our six year old girl this book. Last night she still was using it to draw a rocket ship. She loves it.
Helped turn my non-artist into a VanGogh!.......2006-07-17
This product, and the others like it "I Can Draw Animals" and "I Can Draw People" are incredible! Just a year ago, I was able to pick my son's artwork out of his entire class: It was the unfinished or poorly executed one. Then, he started bringing some wonderful drawings home from Kindergarten. I asked him who drew them, and he said he did. I was shocked. Then, I found out his teacher has this series of books. The teacher told me that my son eagerly thumbed through the books when given a drawing assignment for ways to construct characters. My son - the one who was drawing stick figures a few short months ago! I quickly ordered the entire series and now we have a "super silly art gallery" in our home. He loves to draw now. I realized that he just didn't know how to get started before. He even lent the books to his older cousin that needed to draw a wizard for a school project. Now that he's more skilled, he is able to draw great things even without referencing the books. I am amazed and so very pleased.
Great for elementary school.......2006-06-04
I just got through my first year of teaching and this book was really fun for some of my kids who lack confidence in drawing. They were able to have great success with the ideas in this book.

Book Description
Carole Radziwill's vivid and haunting New York Times bestseller begins with loss and returns to loss. A summer that was meant to bring four friends together in the final weeks of her husband Anthony's life brought instead the kind of tragedy that breaks into ordinary days in a heartbeat, when the small plane carrying Anthony's cousin John Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette,
Carole's best friend, plunged into the ocean. This is the story of a life that has so far been nothing short of extraordinary -- an upstate New York girl who became an ABC news producer who married a Polish prince. What Remains will leave an indelible mark on all who glimpse life's greatest joys and deepest pain in its pages.
Download Description
"What Remains is a vivid and haunting memoir about a girl from a working-class town who becomes an award-winning television producer and marries a prince, Anthony Radziwill, one of a long line of Polish royals and nephew of President John F. Kennedy. Carole Radziwill's story is part fairy tale, part tragedy. She tells both with great candor and wit. Carole grew up in a small suburb with a large, eccentric cast of characters. She spent her childhood summers with her grandparents and an odd assortment of aunts and uncles in their poorly plumbed A-frame on the banks of a muddy creek in upstate New York. At the age of nineteen, Carole struck out for New York City to find a different life. Her career at ABC News led her to the refugee camps of Cambodia, to a bunker in Tel Aviv, to the scene of the Menendez murders. Her marriage led her into the old world of European nobility and the newer world of American aristocracy. What Remains begins with loss and returns to loss. A small plane plunges into the ocean, carrying John Kennedy, Anthony's cousin, and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Carole's closest friend. Three weeks later Anthony dies of cancer. The summer of the plane crash, the four friends were meant to be cherishing Anthony's last days. Instead, Carole and Anthony mourned John and Carolyn, even as Carole planned her husband's memorial. Carole Radziwill has an anthropologist's sensibility and a journalist's eye. She writes about families--their customs, their secrets, and their tangled intimacies-- with remarkable acuity and humanity. She explores the complexities of marriage, the importance of friendship, and the challenges of self-invention with unflinching honesty. This is a compelling story of love, loss, and, ultimately, resilience. "
Customer Reviews:
How did she survive all this sadness?.......2007-09-12
This is one of the saddest books I have ever read. I am amazed that she was able to write about this -- the losses she suffered were just staggering.
I would have appreciated a bit more information about who all these people were that they were staying with, or that visited, or that were otherwise involved in their lives. There must have been some of that information at some point in the book, but I apparently was in a hurry to get to the heart of the story and skimmed over it a bit too fast. Reminders every once in a while of who these people were would have been helpful, since the reader is not intimately related with them.
But overall this is really an incredible book on many levels. I know sometimes she took exception to being called brave, but she showed a tremendous amount of courage by even tackling this project (writing this memoir), let alone seeing it through. I don't know if I could have done it. I will be thinking about her for a long time.
Loved it!!.......2007-09-02
Carole Radziwell's story of her life with her new husband, Anthony, and John and Carolyn is articulate and heartwarming. Loved the back story of her childhood, just a plain old childhood, where small-town girl travels to the big city and lives life! But oh, what a life! Her comparisons to her upbringing, and that of Anthony and John's were described with the accuracy of one who 'sees' the chasm, and appreciates it, on both sides of the aisle. She and Carolyn were 'Caldor' girls...they both worked in Caldor's while Anthony and John were 'where'? Yet, they all came together through the luck of the draw. And come together they did. While it lasted, it was serendipity. Not without it's problems, and in the scale of life, a short time, but serendipity nonetheless.
I, for one, am amazed with this snapshot of her life. AND IT IS HER SNAPSHOT TO SHARE! She lived it, loved it, learned it and buried it.
We are 'very' past the awestruck 'Kennedy halycon days' and well into history, and I am happy to have seen a small part of it. People won't care anymore, soon, if not already. Her story is a beautiful story, funny, smart, and heartfelt. And, of yes, they are famous. Thanks to the author, those who do care can put this chapter to rest.
This book allowed me to feel the writers emotions........2007-08-28
Wow, What a book. I could not put it down. Very well written. I have read several books with John F. Kennedy in them. I was looking for a new book, a new edge, I recognized Carole Radziwll's name with all the reading I have done on the family. What ever novel she is working on I will be watching for, I completely enjoyed the close connection you get from her writtings. Thanks for the interesting, sad but true story of love, loss, friendship and the inner power one must dig for to go on as Michael, John and Carolyn would have wanted her to.
OUTSTANDING MEMOIR.......2007-08-28
EXCELLENT. MOVING. EXACTLY HOW A MEMOIR SHOULD BE. AND FINALLY, A TRUE, KINDLY PORTRAIT OF CAROLYN, JOHN'S WIFE. I COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN AND ALL I READ ARE TRUE STORIES. THE BEST.
Unexpected.......2007-08-23
When I bought this book, I didn't realize who had written it and once I got started, I wasn't quite sure I would like it, since I generally don't like this sort of celebrity tell all. However, it didn't take long to realize that wasn't what it was about at all. It doesn't matter that Carole is writing about several very famous people, her story is tremendously sad and she is incredibly brave to write about it. On top of it, she is a very good writer. It is a wonderful tribute to those that she loves and I recommend it highly.

Book Description
In this informative companion to the popular "What Do Authors Do?" author/illustrator Christelow turns her attention to the visual side of creating a picture book. Employing her relaxed style and trademark humor, she shows how an illustrator develops a book from rough sketches to finished artwork, following two artists as they illustrate different versions of "Jack and the Beanstalk." Christelow answers the questions often posed by children, such as, "What materials do you use?" and "Is it hard to be an illustrator?" and reveals that the uniqueness of each book depends on many creative choices . . . and a lot of painstaking work.

humorous look at illustrators.......2000-06-20
This books shows what illustrators do by following two illustrators both working on Jack and the Beanstalk but coming up with very different results. A friendly cat and dog also add to the book.
What Do Illustrators Do?.......1999-12-14

(Jack and the Beanstalk) Wonderful teaching resource. Highly recommend this for K through the 4th grade; also recommended reading for teachers and parents. Contains excellent color illustrations.
Book Description
SEE like an artist, and draw like a pro!
If you think you can't draw, it's all in your head ... Every time you pick up a pencil, a battle rages between the two sides of your brain: Your analytical brain, which wants to generalize and take shortcuts; and your visual brain, which sees it like it is.
This innovative guide helps the "good guy" always win!
Following the success of his first book, Painting with Your Artist's Brain (North Light Books), Carl Purcell shows that the secret to creating true-to-life renderings--and overcoming the most common drawing problems--is silencing your bossy logical nature and letting your artistic side do what it does best. Thirteen interactive exercises and 10 step-by-step demonstrations lead you on an in-depth exploration of essential drawing skills:
- seeing values correctly
- searching for relationships of angle, size and position
- defining form with line and edge
- exploring the relationship between objects and space
- tying everything together with value patterns
- making the most of your sketchbook
You'll take the same observation-based approach whether you're drawing a pear, a portrait or a landscape. No subject will be beyond your reach, and you'll be amazed at your sudden mastery of drawing!

An observation-based approach covers landscapes, portraits and still life equally, applying important concepts and principles to the mix. A top pick from an artist whose PAINTING WITH YOUR ARTIST'S BRAIN has proven most popular.

Good for Beginners.......2007-05-25
This is a good comprehensive book for beginners and covers most things of importance, but it has a few defects. The reference photos from which the drawings are done are too small, making it difficult to see what the author is talking about. The author leaves his sighting lines on his drawings, which is like leaving up the scaffolding after painting a house--it looks unsightly. He drones on for too long about values. Toward the end of the book, he runs out of things to say, and the book becomes a gallery to show off the author's drawings.

She provides answers to questions that include:
What's normal artistic expression for children between 18 months and 12 years?
What warning signals do children convey in their art?
How and why should you encourage creative expression in children?
When and where should you seek professional help?
Customer Reviews:
A unique perspective into the souls of our children!.......2007-07-04
Children's artwork can be a view into their soul. Myra Levick leads us to a better understanding of the emotions, thoughts and developmental growth of our children. This book helps parents, teachers and therapists expand their understanding of children on a unique level enabling them to be wonderful guides to our precious offspring.

Children's Expression of Meaning Through Art.......2007-04-04
Dr. Levick takes the reader on a developmental journey with special emphasis on how the maturing child up to age twelve expresses meaning throguh drawing. The journey begins at about one-and-a-half-years to two years of age with mere scribbles, going on to navigate through a series of "stage/sequences" to manifestly meaningful pictures of people and objects. The period of adolescence, where the task is to shape order out of chaos, is also discussed, but the focus is mainly on the earlier years.
The book is a tour de force of blending words and images, each reciprocally reinforcing the author's intended message. Both intellectual and emotional development are covered. There is a parralelism in the writing which offers a view of normal development as expressed in art and signs of delayed or disordered development, as well. The manifold pictorial illustrations that are provided drive home the message of the book. The prose is lucid and accessible to everyone, although the work is recommended in particular to parents, teachers, and caregivers. "See What I'm Saying" is also a book that can profit psychotherapists who practice through other modalities also. the reader will find the book illuminating and captivating. But one must take heed of Dr. Levick's professional and ethical comments to the effect that the layperson, meaning someone without art therapy training, must avoid making inferential diagnoses of pathology from the child's drawings. Further, even the art therapist must move cautiously, being sure to place the picture in the context of the child's overall life, taking into account physical, relational, and environmental considerations.
Although I am not an art therapist, I have spent forty years in the mental health field as a professor, verbal psychoherapist, and educational administrator. I have had many art therapy colleagues. I believe Dr. Levick's book makes a unique contribution to the field of non-verbal communication through the medium of children's maturation as expressed in their developing art work.
Hugh Rosen, D.S.W., Philadelphia, Pa., author of "Silent Battlefields: A Novel."
Excellent Sourcebook.......2007-03-05
Dr. Levick's book is a wonderful addition in the field of knowledge about the drawings of children. Here, she has provided the reader with strategies for understanding how drawings are correlated to child development and the warning signals/graphic indicators that give cause for concern. Such information is important when helping children deal with emotional traumas/childhood conflicts. This is an invaluable resource for those in counseling, education, and healthcare, and others interested in leaning how children's art is a natural language.
Fantastic Book for Teachers, Parents and Therapists.......2007-03-04
This book is fantastic for understanding communication from children through their drawings. Dr. Levick has given us wonderful, colorful pictures of actual drawings by children and an understanding of why and how they are communicating in their pictures. It gives us a clear understanding of what to expect and when, a sequential guide to ciphering a child's inner world through his art. I was fascinated the degree to which these drawings have helped me understand children. As an arts educator, I have used this book in my arts methods for elementary school teachers. The students have really enjoyed learning all this from such as beautiful book. I most highly recommend it for teachers, parents, professionals and anyone who works with children.

Blue is bored.......2004-01-11
Steve is on the phone (and never appears in the book). Everyone is busy. Blue is bored. She sees what everyone else is doing and tries doing the activities herself, and ultimately discovers what it is she really wants to do. Typical, colorful, all the animated characters are here. Nicely done.
Daughter loves it.......2001-04-03
My daughter loves the sory and as a parent I like the idea that is teaches you should find something to do instead of moping around. Good Story -- We need a new one because we as the other reviewers have worn ours out
Good story.......2000-09-11
My two year old loved this book! We wore out the pages reading it over and over again. Now my son is coloring and trying to draw a story too.
Keeps 'em entranced!.......2000-04-25
I bought this book for my 20 month old, who adores Blue. It reads very well, and the colors and characters keep him entranced. Could be a few pages longer though, and no Steve in this one!
Great book!.......2000-04-01
My 28 month old loves this book. It is like an "I spy Book"for a toddler. It has enough objects and characters that you can askyour child many questions about the book, beyond what is actually written.... END

Customer Reviews:
Excellent review of spiritual leadership principles.......2004-12-22
This book is one of the most thought provoking treatises on Christian leadership principles I have ever read.
Realize that the author is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ (Mormon). The book is aimed at that audience and uses as the basis of this exposition Section 121 of the Doctrine and Covenants (Mormon scripture). So if you will be offended by this, the book is not for you. That said, the author is a talented scholar who writes this like a Stephen Covey book on management principles. And by the way, the author is the son of apostle L. Tom Perry and wrote the words to the sacrament hymn "As now we take the Sacrament".
I made a page of notes and quotes to use from this book and it is only a little over 100 pages. The author uses diverse sources from CS Lewis to management gurus. I especially appreciate the personal stories and stories he learned from others in his extensive church service. His background as a Business Management Professor molds this work into a kind of leadership handbook.
Overall, I expanded my understanding of leadership principles, section 121, and the position of the Savior more from this book than most other "church" books I have read. I especially recommend it for anyone in Priesthood leadership positions.
