Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Idea Index kick-started a revolution in graphic design books, unique in size, feel--and most important--wealth of ideas. Layout Index is the next step, a compendium of layout idea-generators that will help designers explore multiple possibilities for visual treatments each time they turn the page. The visual and textual suggestions are divided into eight major areas, including newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, advertising, stationery, page layout, and Web pages.

Each of these examples are designed to inspire effective solutions in the viewer's mind, rather than simply give specific answers to design problems. The tone and temperament of the design problems, as well as their solutions, vary from traditional to cutting-edge, from corporate to crazy. Designers will learn to solve their design problems, produce fantastic work and become better, more creative thinkers.

* Both creativity books and layout books are extremely popular
* As proven by Idea Index, the format of this book is a proven winner with designers

The whole "index" series is good for jump starting when in a stuck place. For average students it can really be helpful to get them to seek/create more variety in their work. For marketing or PR individuals or students it is a must have. Many individuals may have a cursory introduction to design and yet find themselves having to create layouts and design. The Index Books are a lifesaver.

2 out of 5 stars Sad leftovers from the dark ages..........2006-10-14

This book is at first appearance, visually interesting and consuming. But upon closer look (as in opening it) it's not worth the time, money or breath sadly. The concepts and ideas within this book can be inspiring to thoses who have the time and energy, but overall this book is just a display of bad, kitsch design. My advice? Don't bother.

3 out of 5 stars Not overly sophisticated.......2005-09-06

I bought this along with the Color Index, and I must admit I'm not overly impressed with the ideas in this text.

I will keep it onboard because you -never- know what might spark your creativity, and I must admit there are a few good ideas to jump off from in this book. I donno, I guess I just feel underminded when I flip through this book. It is a bit too kitchy for me (think clip-art-like graphics), and many of the solutions presented in it are too busy and hardly professional.

5 out of 5 stars i use a lot.......2004-12-09

for those who aren't experienced in the in's and out's of page layout and design, this book is a lifesaver. it really gets your creative juices flowing by simply giving you a full range of possible ideas for how you can change up your design. i found it much more useful than the idea book, which didn't really help me with the visual expression part. if you have a concept and you simply want to consider all the possibilities for how you can express it on a page, i recommend getting this book!

4 out of 5 stars A simple, helpful guide.......2004-07-09

Design inspired by this little book leans towards clean & well ordered displays of information. This book provides basics of page building & information distribution.
Beginners will like this book, however, those looking for more complex layout ideas should either work on the existing ideas taking them to the next levels, or peruse other books.

Book Description

In much the way that the CD replaced the album, the poster has waned as a messaging vehicle. The poster has now become a postcard and e-mail blast, leaving many to long for the lost age when posters were not only major promotional vehicles, but also artwork worthy of framing.

Some of the world's best designers just could not stand idle while the poster fell by the wayside. They turned to the poster for personal expression and as an outlet from more restrictive mediums.

This book showcases their breathtaking artwork, which has proven that the poster can still serve as a worthy communications tool. In doing so, they've brought the poster back to prominence. In this book, the author has compiled the world's finest new work at the height of this rebirth. There is currently no book on the market that can claim it features a "definitive" poster collection.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Source for inspiration.......2007-10-08

I must say, as a graphic designer I'm always looking for inspirational objects all around me so, this a collection you'll never find disappointing. All of the posters listed inside are in every range of design trend and illustration techniques and so are fantastic at any level: creative, conceptual and symbolic. Every featured designer is given an introduction and a light analysis on their work so you can get an idea of who these guys are. I gave 4 of 5 stars only because I wanted at least the double of pages and posters but it's a fair trade.

5 out of 5 stars Love this book!.......2007-06-08

I am in love with this book! The posters are fantastic, the layouts great. I often refer to this book to get inspiration for my own art. Worth every cent.

5 out of 5 stars Poster greatest hits.......2007-03-28

This is a very up to date collection of poster portfolios from graphic designers around the world. Besides the overall quality, the interesting point is the diversity (of origins and approaches) and the texts about the creation process of each piece. A must have.

5 out of 5 stars Posters, posters and more posters!.......2007-01-16

I found the collection of posters in this book to be amazing! It has such a wide range of artists and designers. Anyone who is a fan or a pro would love this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book of Inspiration.......2006-04-21

Not only is the book fun to look at but the writing is top notch. The author adds a lot of incite and does a great job of describing the ideas behind the work. My personal faves include Jewboy, Thinkmule and Modern Dog. (The only mediocre work in the whole book is from Sandstrom, who seem sorely out of place). You'll love this book if you love art and design.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Not enough of the psychedelic works.......2007-09-29

After viewing the Peter Max exhibit at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, I was anxious to see this book, but it was very disappointing. The book mostly contains later paintings which bear no resemblance to the psychedelic posters shown at the De Young. I think it may be time for a new book that just focuses on the works that appears to be somewhat similar to the Yellow Submarine.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent overview.......2007-03-16

This book is GREAT - it gives you a complete understanding of his art past and present.

I first saw this book on a cruise and knew I had to have it. Its an excellent book for the art enthusiast and a beautiful book for display. I highly recommend to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Love the Peter Max book.......2007-01-09

I became fascinated with Peter Max after seeing his unique work while I was on a cruise ship this fall. This book is full of images of Peter Max's colorful works of art and it discusses his life story as well. It costs an additional $20 at stores. I decided to wait it out, and order it online. It was worth it.

4 out of 5 stars Quality assured.......2006-08-10

This edition I had was printed in Japan, notwithstanding the quality of the prints, pages and the cover were stunning!

Unfortunately I was hoping for more of Peter Max's psychedelic artwork & merchandise which he was most remembered for, as the book featured most his more recent paintings and his penchant for the Statue of Liberty & American icons. In fact I bought the book as a reference for 60s color scheme & rock posters but retro artwork added up to abt 30 odd pages out of the 240...

I'm thinking contemporary fine-art artists/lovers might take to this book with more enthusiasm than illustrators or graphic designers, despite this, the book still manages to inspire me with Max's whimsical use of paint colors and his contribution to society.

Book Description

Surf movies have always attracted a certain kind of audience: passionate, committed, and, quite often, stoned. The posters that advertised these low-budget movies began as colorful notices stapled onto beachside telephone poles in the early fifties. They were full of promises "See the biggest wave EVER!!," "California pointbreak perfection!!" and surfers pounded in, wanting to see the best surfers on the tastiest waves. A splash hit when it debuted in 1966, The Endless Summer, with its ultra dayglo view of beach life, proved that surf movies had made it big time. Four decades later, surf expert Matt Warshaw brings to wave riders everywhere this singular collection of more than 140 amazing and rare posters, covering everything from the bubbly optimism of Gidget to the psychedelic inventiveness of Pacific Vibrations. Including worn ticket stubs, photos of old-time premieres, and a side-splitting history of the surf movie in all its shaggy glory, Surf Movie Tonite! brilliantly illustrates the intersection of beach and film culture.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Could be cool, BUT..........2005-12-13

Matt Warshaw has already staked his claim as being one of the top surf writers. Having edited SURFER Magazine, written THE book on Mavericks (the monster big wave spot in Northern California we saw in Riding Giants) and then penning The Encyclopedia of Surfing, a 770 page door stop of a book that packs in more information about the sport/activity/lifestyle than anyone needs to know, Warshaw has more than demonstrated his chops as a researcher, writer and editor.

Now Chronicle Books has released Surf Movie Tonite!: Surf Movie Poster Art, 1957-2004, a nice looking 143 page book of surf movie posters reproduced in full color and big enough to actually see and appreciate those ephemeral graphic gems.

In the past, surf movies tended to be made by surfers for surfers, or by Hollywood Studios, looking to catch a fad. The surfer made enthusiast films were produced and screened in the tradition of pre-television travelogues, and their period piece posters reflected that amateur effort with their lack of sophistication and abundance of stoke. The surf community by and large didn't care for the Hollywood product. Warshaw quotes his own remarks critical of Hollywood from a 1998 SURFER'S JOURNAL article, but oddly enough this book seems to be more impressed by the slick fiction pics and dismissive of the less refined contributions. But these insights are mere value judgments, largely a matter of taste, mine and Warshaw's. and as the book's author, he's certainly entitled to his bias.

The real question is: where are the artists' credits? Warshaw writes about the film makers, the music and the stars, and he does mentions artists Rick Griffin and John Van Hammersveldt in his introduction. But for the almost all of this catalog of posters, the writer and/or editors choose not to credit the designers and artists whose works are herein displayed. This omission can not be dismissed as a simple oversight; Surf Movie Tonite! isn't a book about surf movies, its a book of surf movie posters! In some examples, the poster artist signed his work, but usually this was not the case. However, the surfing community isn't that large, and the missing information is pretty easily obtainable by any diligent researcher. By leaving the images uncredited and the designers overlooked, Warshaw and Chronicle Books ignore the significant contributions to the films advertised, to surf culture in general, and to their own book itself, of surfer artists like John Seversen, Bill Ogden, Jim Evans, and Terry Lamb, as well as artists unknown to me and the above mentioned Van Hammersveldt and Griffin, whose works are all reproduced without clear credit.

Warshaw finishes his Introduction with the flippant line, "Get Jim Jarmusch to direct, work up a good-looking poster, and it'll make the next edition of this book." Gee, Matt, ya think? With the kind of effort they put into this volume, Chronicle Books and Mr. Warshaw don't deserve another edition.

Book Description

One of the very first Star Wars posters had no images at all just enormous block letters that announced, "Coming to Your Galaxy This Summer: Star Wars." The rest is history. Now, 28 years later, the 350 most amazing Star Wars movie posters are collected for the first time. This compilation spans the surreal to ultra realistic, the campy to darkly serious: Darth Vader's head exploding in a shower of camera parts; Anakin Skywalker casting an ominous Sith shadow; C-3PO and R2-D2 selling Star Wars shoes; Luke and Vader in mortal battle aboard the Death Star. Classic posters are joined with text by the world's foremost Star Wars collector, Stephen Sansweet, and poster collector Peter Vilmur, behind-the-scenes stories from artists and designers, a scarcity guide to over 2,000 posters, and a bootleg identification guide. Exploding with color, The Star Wars Poster Book illuminates an unexplored corner of Star Wars history.

The artwork in this amazing book speaks for itself! - incredible reference and resource to all the movie posters for this groundbreaking, earthshaking blockbuster that keeps on going into hyper-space year after year.... any collector or artist would LOVE to have this in their collection!

3 out of 5 stars Not enough information; too much information.......2007-06-18

While this book has a ton of Star Wars Posters listed, it's a book for the reader who is not familiar with poster collecting, or the highest level of Star Wars poster collecting. There is no inbetween. The book is basically a giant list with illustrations. But the list includes posters that are so obscure that it's almost not worth putting them in this book (Coca Cola and Burger King advertising posters come to mind.) There is also a few places where they just went overboard; there is one page where they have pictures of about 20 different posters, all from Episode I, all the same poster, just printed in different languages. I would have liked to have seen a little more detail on the things that matter more to collectors like how to spot a bootleg from an original, what the 77/21 means on the bottom right of the Star Wars 1 sheet, details on different poster printers and their posters (Kilian Enterprises for one), etc. I would also like to have seen more information on where to get posters other than "try the internet." Overall an OK book, it just lacks in certain areas of information.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting even for the non-star wars addicted.......2007-01-10

I got this book for my husband as an attachment to the "Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days (Abrams' 365 Days)". My husband has a large Star Wars collection and I didn't know what to get to add to it. He loved this book and I even found it very interesting. It showcases all the posters even ones I had no idea existed and ones from other countries. I found the perspective the different countries took to make a poster from was very interesting.

Book Description

The guns, the girls, the gadgets, all the key ingredients of Bond --James Bond -- are captured in this one-of-a-kind collection of movie posters. Gathered from the archives of Eon Productions and published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Bond movies and the release of the newest James Bond movie, James Bond Movie Posters depicts in hot type and bold color four decades of our favorite spy in action. Film-goers first encountered the trademark gun barrel logo on the poster for Dr. No, produced in 1962 to promote the first official Bond movie. Then followed the famous image of Bond with a gun across his chest on the poster for From Russia with Love, Goldfinger's startling golden girl, and the inimitable Pussy Galore. These images have become some of the most memorable visual teasers in cinematic history and are now one of the hottest items of memorabilia among both Bond aficionados and movie collectors. This collection features over 200 original posters, including posters that were never released, limited edition festival posters, and rare advance posters. They are all meticulously reproduced in this oversized, full-color paperback. "James Bond is back in action! Everything he touches turns to excitement!"

This updated edition includes:
- Poster artwork from the latest James Bond movie, Die Another Day
- Extended introduction on the evolving imagery and influence of James Bond posters

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2007-08-14

I bought this book as a present for the huge James Bond fan in my life and it was perfect. He really enjoyed looking at all of the classic posters from the various movies. If you have someone who really is a Bond fanatic, this is the way to go!

5 out of 5 stars Definitely worth it!.......2007-02-12

I bought this for my husband's birthday, he's a HUGE Bond fan...he was really excited about this book, and i was impressed with the large format and the posters from around the world for the different Bond films. Definitely worth buying, even as a book to leave on the coffee table for people to flip through.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection of James Bond Movie Posters.......2006-12-01

This is a wonderful collection of James Bond Movie Posters. The illustrations and quality of the images are outstanding. They are crisp and sharp and very colorful. This book covers Bond posters from all over the world. The composition of the Japanese posters are quite eye catching and innovative. This is a wonderful and essential book for James Bond enthusiasts.

5 out of 5 stars How times have changed...........2006-11-22

I am echoing another reviewer in lamenting the sorry state of movie posters in 2006. The Octopussy campaign from 1983 was simply stunning as the myriad posters in this volume show at least 3-4 different pieces of artwork, each one beautifully painted and in keeping with the Indian theme. The use of Octopussy herself as a Hindu goddess behind Bond was brilliant.

Compare that to the current ad campaign for Casino Royale -- which is virtually indistinguishable from a Gucci billboard. It says nothing about the film, its minimalism ill-conceived and simply lazy. Worse still was the "Die Another Day" poster which was quite simply four layerrs in Photoshop: Pierce and Halle, a background, and the type layer. Moreover a simple type-treatment for the title, nothing like the individualized logotype for a film such as Octopussy. I could go on... This is a gorgeous book.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent chronical of James Bond movie posters.......2005-08-27

I just received this fantastic James Bond poster collection book and I have to say, this is indispensable stuff, going all the way from Dr NO to Die Another Day, and even including oddities like Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again. Author Tony Nourmand has clearly put a great amount of effort and research into the making of this book, and it shows. Beautifully presented, this has quickly turned out to be one of my preferred movie books. Showcasing classic posters from some of the leading graphic artists of the 1970s and 80s like Robert McGinnis (Live and Let Die and The Man with The Golden Gun are amazing), Bob Peak (Moonraker), Frank McCarthy, Renato Casaro and Randi Braun, their collective works culminate in a lavishly presented masterwork that looks fantastic. Footnotes on subtle changes that were made to some late 70s movie posters are particularly welcome, as are the informative and interesting introductions that accompany the film-based chapters. The Sean Connery films for instance, comprise extensive thoughts from Nourmand talking about discarded poster ideas and how the change of leading man from Connery to George Lazenby caused some marketing concerns. It's not difficult to see why some of the early posters like From Russia With Love are sought after by collectors, these highly prized masterpieces are worth thousands by today's market. Being a poster collector myself, I've found that this is a particularly lucrative hobby. Theses are not just your average, run of the mill images, these are works of art that look beautiful on the wall. Poster layouts for the Roger Moore era are the most elaborate, indicating the change in times, Britain and America's quickly changing tastes, and the myriad of factors that are involved in this particular art. Foreign posters from Japan and Spain display the differential takes on how these particular films should be marketed, and the changes that were made by more conservative global regions to the more sexually suggestive artwork. Reading it, one notices the gradual change from traditional watercolor artwork to photo mosaics and stylish computer-aided photography. Which is, arguably less impressive, but mostly, the posters for the new Pierce Brosnan films do carry on the subtle nuances and certain recognizable M.O that is so popular. This is must-have material for 007 fans and poster fans alike and inspiration for aspiring artists in the field of movies.

Book Description

This book is a must-have gift for anyone interested in skiing or in the art of the poster. Organized by country, it features the world's foremost winter sport by drawing on an unparalleled collection of 800 vintage posters and paintings. Amassed by Mason Beekley over a lifetime dedicated to the celebration of all things skiing, the collection is now housed at the Mammoth Ski Museum in California and open to the public. In the 1910s and 1920s, skiing became the "in" thing among the young and the fashionable, who made such glamorous resorts like St. Moritz, Chamonix, and Garmisch famous. Like car racing, skiing was one of the sports that defined the twentieth-century's notion of the modern. It combined fast-paced action with the need to appear in stylish, sporty yet appropriate attire. Since it took place away from everyday urban life in remote and breathtaking mountain locations, it also combined the romance of travel with the stylishness of après-ski social life and ski chalet rusticity. Even in the steamship era, skiing quickly jumped the Atlantic and spawned such now famous ski resorts such as Vermont's Stowe, Colorado's Aspen, and Canada's Banff and Whistler (all featured here in their pre-war glamour). The book is rounded out by chapters on the contemporary skiing scene and on skiing fashion.

This book is a great resource for graphic designers looking for ideas for web site illustrations. Broad color schemes, dramatic but often simple posters many of which could be adapted as animations. A beautiful tribute to the great children's authors.

1 out of 5 stars TOO SMALL! Not worth it because the awesome details are lost.......2007-10-02

The First time i saw this book i fell in love with it- but that was the big size version that i have been unable to find on anywhere! It is a wonderful collection of images but because of it's small size a great deal of the details are lost. This small size in this book is not worth purchasing unless it is just for a table topper.

5 out of 5 stars THE ART OF ROCK : POSTERS FROM PRESLEY TO PUNK.......2007-05-07

being something of a '60's poster collector, this book is a classic of it's kind. I've seen none other as good. Excellent reproduction plates and very inclusive.

5 out of 5 stars A Sixties poster reference.......2006-05-28

I bought this book when it was first published in the late eighties. At that time I had been collecting posters for about ten years. I was familiar with most of the Fillmoe and Avalon series, but this book opened my eyes to posters from many other venues I hadn't seen before. It's true what the other reviewers are saying about the concentration on 60's west coast posters, but that's where the best psychedelic artists were working. If you are a collector or are just thinking about buying a poster or two to dress up your walls, this is the first book to buy.(Make sure it's the full size version.) My only complaint is they don't show the whole Avalon series. But I think that's because of some copyright issues. All in all anyone interested in posters, the sixties or art in general will appreciate this book.

2 out of 5 stars Item description should be clearer.......2006-01-07

This little book is pretty cute, but did not know that I was getting the "mini" version. So, if you only paid $10 for this book - you are probably not getting the big $50 version of this book. Other than that, it is pretty cute. Not extremely useful, though.

3 out of 5 stars very late-60s-San-Francisco heavy.......2005-11-02

When this book came out in the 80s, it made a huge splash and it was the first book of its kind. It was a bestseller despite its size and expense and everybody had to have it. But I felt cheated by the subtitle (From Presley to Punk) because it's probably more than 75% Bill Graham-era psychedelic 60s posters. The earlier and later stuff felt tacked-on, with limited examples and little perspective. The author should have stuck to his strengths, or done more research. As it is, this book is obviously fantastic if you're interested in the west coast 60s music scene, but kind of a disappointment if you're looking for an overall history of the rock poster.
