Learning Different Games.......2007-10-08
For those who want to learn the fundamentals of different poker games there isn't a better primer out there than Super System 2. Doyle Brunson has chosen some of the most entertaining and insightful professionals around to share their strategies and advice to new and experienced players alike for each of the six different games covered in the book. As a bonus there are tips from Mike Caro, a chapter dedicated to on-line play, and a tournament overview which will be especially helpful to those without alot of large-field tournament experience. Doyle's own life story is almost worth the price of the book alone and is a must read for those who truly want to appreciate the roots of the game today!
Nothing Very Insightful or Helpful, Except Section by Caro.......2007-10-03
Nearly universally hailed as the greatest poker player of all time, Brunson is the master of self-promotion. And this book is very much about self-promotion. Because it's referred to as the Bible of Poker, I've read and re-read Brunson's chapter on No Limit Texas Hold'em trying to unearth something valuable that I missed in my earlier reads. There's little hand analysis and little advice that's worthwhile, just general advice that won't equip you for cash or tournament play. For example, Brunson claims that with pocket Aces you either win a little money or lose a lot of money. He also says he intimidates players by his willingness to "go all in." Just what you're to do with the aces in particular situations or when you should be willing to shove all your chips into the middle he leaves unexplained. He provides little valuable guidance to beginners and no guidance whatsoever to experienced players.
In contrast, Dan Harrington's three volume set on No Limit Hold'em is a masterpiece. Chapter after chapter, Harrington teaches the reader how to really evaluate a hand, based on position, the competition, the stacks, the raises, the checks, and the pot odds, as well as how to put another player on a hand. With a mix of created and actual play, with descriptions of the players' styles, the portion of the tournament, and "your" own play, Harrington dissects the ensuing action. I'm already a much better player for having read Harrington's books.
Caro's chapter on tells (in Brunson's book) and poker philosophy is great, full of sound practical advice. Since I only play No Limit, it's the only chapter I found worth reading. However, you would be better off buying Caro's "Book of Poker Tells," than wasting money on Brunson's overrated "Bible."
Not as Detailed as I Expected (review for NL and Limit Hold'em sections).......2007-10-01
This book has good information for a newbie, but I've been playing poker for 4 years and it really didn't provide me with any new or insightful strategies. This was the first poker book I have ever read, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I thought it would go into specific details such as hand analysis, timing, bet amounts and so forth...but the details are not there...he may say, "I'll put in a big bet or overbet," but that's about it. Mike Caro's section on "tells", however, is decently insightful. Since I mostly play online, I'll look forward to applying this info next time I go to the casino. But overall, if you're already relatively versed in poker strategy, this book will do you little good.
poker made easy?.......2007-08-17
Now this is the "new testiment" of the poker books. Doyle is a very smart man and knows who to talk to about playing poker. This book is NOT for beginners. Well, worth the time spent reading (well we will see if it pays off).
Remember the Most Important Things!.......2007-06-03
Super System 2 is a very good poker book, of course everyone knows about the legendary original--at first and "underground" publication that was very hard to get. I got hooked on poker about 2 years ago (I don't play live that much due to my budget) but it is a fascinating, addictive game, and my best thing about playing for real, is you aren't playing the casino, you're playing the other players, therefore your chances overall of making some money are much better (well depending on the other players, of course)
Anyway I agree with many, in that I was sort of disappointed that the book was not more in depth on hold em; I don't play the other games, and I don't play limit. I am interested in low stakes, no limit, hold em. Mike Caro's chapter probably meant the most to me as its advise is good across the board. I would recommend this book to someone who is intermediate and interested in learning a bit about the other games, but it s NOT for a beginner and quite frankly I don't see it as that good of a "strategy" book, because most players in the casinos are not playing for the stakes that the authors are. Which leads me to my advice--remember these VERY IMPORTANT points:
1. This (these) books are NOT FOR BEGINNERS. It (they) assume you know something about the game(s) and are looking for an (edge)
2. You can't learn poker from a book. The most important thing to remember about playing live is, every player, therefore table, will be different. In most casinos you will be playing strangers and will have no idea how good (or bad) they are. All those pages about what hands not even to call to the flop won't mean anything if you are at a table full of weak timid players. And as we know a hand that wouldn't be so good with 8 players and small blinds, becomes more urgent and favorable to play, say late in a sit and go you hsve been tight and are short stack, when there's 3 players left, the blinds take 10% of your stack and you've seen 2 of the 3 players left are weak. Or, if you have chip lead and can afford to cover everyone's crazy calls, you would follow that path. That's just basics you can learn at a home game, you shouldn't need a 50 dollar book.
3. Proably most important; a lot of folks seem to be missing this: The no limit hold em chapters in these books are NOT talking about no limit hold em. THEY COVER HIGH STAKES NO LIMIT HOLD EM. When you see these programs on TV like World Poker Tour, Poker After Dark, etc; these events (usually) have buy ins of $10-$30,000! Most people (I know myself) for sure) will never be playing for those stakes. So I can tell you, if you take your $100 buy in and go to the Bicycle Club, and try to play like Doyle plays high stakes, you won't be sitting at that table long. But if you take the general advice, adapt to the other players, and play carefully, you can win a few dollars (even I've done it).

Simple, delicioius and easy.......2007-10-18
Just over a year ago I started eating the way Joel Fuhrman M.D. outlined in his book, Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss. Eating a vast amount of leafy greens is a cornerstone of his program. The problem was that I had absolutely no experience with leafy greens other than lettuce and spinach.
"Greens, Glorious Greens" came to the rescue. Each leafy green the book deals with is described in detail. Hints are given on what to look for when buying it, how to store it, how to clean it and more importantly, how to cook it. I wish had owned this book when I started on the Eat to Live program as it would have saved me a fair bit of money and angst over ruined kale and collards. I had perfected the technique on how to make them totally unpalatable. Thanks to "Greens, Glorous Greens", I now make delicious kale, swiss chard, mustard greens, turnip greens and arugula. Collards still beat me though.
I do not cook with either salt or processed oils but found that the recipes in this book are very forgiving and allow me to eliminate both with ease.
The "mustard greens with sweet potato and coconut milk" is one of my favorite dishes when made with kale. It's pretty darned good with mustard greens, but killer with kale. Another favorite is the "Curried potato and kale". My children are especially fond of the "White bean soup with kale and butternut squash". I've yet to make a flop from this book and I have made well over half the recipes.
The book scores points for having uncomplicated recipes that take very little of the cook's time to make. It also scores points for having many recipes that win kid approval (note: my children have never eaten a standard American diet so this might not be true for children brought up on mac & cheese or hamburgers).
this one is a Must Have!.......2007-10-17
I can't recommend this cookbook highly enough. All my favorite greens recipes are from "Glorious Greens" - I showcase several of them in my cooking classes. It's my pleasure to give all my clients a copy of "Glorious Greens"

Best book on greens.......2007-09-17
This is the best book on greens I've ever found. If you're serious about incorporating a lot of greens into your diet, then do yourself a favor and get this book. Not only does it have several great recipes for each different green, it also has an introduction to each green citing it's particular health benefits. It even lets you know not to eat particular items like beet greens too often. Amazing book.
Great Greens Glorious Greens.......2007-06-14
This is one of my favorite cookbooks. The recipes are great. Every recipe I have tried has come out fabulous!
Amazing & Simple .......2007-03-08
I love this book because it puts everything into context- it breaks down the nutrients of each green, the origin, how to buy it, when to buy it, how to store it and finally how to cook it. Most recipes start simple and then evolve. It's a great book for beginners and experts.
Book Description
Secrets of a Hollywood Super Madam is a book about my 13 years owning and operating an Escort Empire that serviced the sexual secrets of the rich and famous. I wrote this book to tell my fascinating story and answer the three questions I get asked the most: How did you get started as a Madam? Where did you find the girls? What was it like in prison? I walked the walk, and now I talk the talk . In this book, I tell you my story and my secrets while speaking from my heart. This book is so racy, traditional publishers would not touch it. I could have "cleaned it up" and "been discreet", but I wanted to tell you my whole story and, quite frankly, why shouldn't I? After all, why sugarcoat it? There simply was no "safe way" to write my story. It was gritty, nasty, salacious, sexy, frightening, horrifying, dangerous, deadly, and above all, deliciously decadent. You'll see a lot of famous names in these pages and learn many secrets, and experience the emotional roller coaster ride that was my life-a life full of the risks I took while evading the watchful eye of law enforcement, a life that includes my dark journey through the walls of hell while being placed in the most severe prison in the state of California, a life that will surely convince you not to try this at home. This book is a true testament of my life, my secrets and my ability to survive.

very interesting!!.......2007-10-01
really enjoyed reading about the life of a madame. told in detail what these men requested for their dates(and believe me... they were upfront with that!) the names of people involved were interesting also...yes names you will recognize. hope she writes super madame II. one of those guilty entertaining reads. couldnt put it down until i was finished.
Need to edit the book first before sending it to publish.......2007-09-07
The book contains plenty of juicy bits on the sexual habits of those famous Hollywood celebrities but it is poorly written, with plenty of grammatical and spelling errors. I was surprised that the author did not proof read or asked someone to edit the book for her first before publishing it. I just don't seem to understand why the author needed to add in the part on her love for the animals, especially in chapters which have no complete link to her love for her pets. Out of the blue, a short paragraph on her love for her animals just popped out of nowhere... and it can be quite "painful" (or rather irritating) to read at times.
But I do marvel the courage of the author in writing this book. Salute!
Did anyone proof read this?.......2007-07-06
About as enticing as a tabloid cover although far less well written. There were numerous typos and the sentence structure was horrid to the point that it distracted from the storyline (if there were a storyline). The flow was disjointed and Ms. Gibson is not much of a story teller. There could have been potential, sadly that was never tapped into.
Absolute Hypocrisy.......2007-06-04
The people-- Gil Garcetti and his evil cronies who put this woman in jail should be thrown into Chowchilla and allowed to be abused from the inside out.
I heard her on Howard Stern and my heart went out for this poor woman.
Prostitution happens in every corner of this country every day. Men with money buy women cars, houses, jewelry in order to have sex with them and women gladly pursue and reciprocate these advances.
The worst examples are professional athletes who have sex with thousands of women every year. THIS IS PROSTITUTION as those who don't have fortune and money won't be having sex with these women.
Women who target doctors, lawyers, producers those with high net worth are prostitutes. This happens in the most conservative of places.
Men who make themselves out to be moral high road or even discreet bastards and never even allude to being tolerant to this when they are in fact the most perverse customers should be sent to Chowchilla and have their teeth punched out as this poor woman did, so they can feel what it's like to be a customer and then completely turn away when she gets into trouble. What cowards. Despicable.
It makes my blood boil when she said she had politicians from Texas use her services and when she was placed in death row Chowchilla did nothing to protect her, it makes me livid.
Someone who is a madam, a prostitute, solely a drug abuser does not belong in a prison with murderers, baterrers, rapists and the mentally insane.
These people are not insane and do not belong in prison. Escorting is a white collar crime which threatens no one, needs to be legal, taxed and regulated as in the Netherlands, exists in every way; it's not just street walkers and escorts. It's women pursuing those with money to pay for them. Those who don't pay for them get nothing. And that's mainstream society.
Madams are simply providing a service that will always be there. Whether you're a football pro having sex with "law abiding females" who sit in a cubicle all week and then have sex with the athlete merely because they have fortune and fame, or a christian coach providing coeds to Tyrone so he'll join his football team, prostitution exists and there is an enormous double standard.
What's amazing is that pornos are being made thruout the US for a salary of a few hundred dollars, it's on film and that's okay, which is fine with me. But what they did to this woman is absolute evil and those involved WILL rot in hell. And I pray that the section of hell they're in is Chowchilla.
Good lots of name dropping.......2007-05-31
You want real names of clients? you got them! ben affleck and sylvester are in here, with very vivid details. this book was interesting, but story after story i just wanted to hear about her jail time as the book went on, so i skipped to it. not a book you have to read in order, but very interesting, my friends are lined up to borrow it!

Ruth Yaron cares deeply about what your baby is eating--so much so that her bestselling Super Baby Food is encyclopedic in both scope and size. Ounce for hefty ounce, this manual/cookbook/reference guide is worth its weight in formula, packed as it is with detailed information on homemade baby food, nutritional data, feeding schedules, cooking techniques, recipes, and other invaluable feeding tips. Yaron builds her compelling argument for making baby food at home on the simple premise that food profoundly impacts health, especially when an infant's developing digestive tract is involved. Parents will learn why babies should start out on rice porridge, bananas, avocados, and sweet potatoes before advancing to more difficult-to-digest foods such as wheat cereals and milk products. While Yaron's passionate stance and vegetarian bias may turn off some parents, others will be grateful for her strict attention to potentially harmful additives and chemicals. No matter what their eating philosophy, most parents will appreciate the economy and surprising ease of making baby food at home. This is not gourmet cooking; all you have to do is learn how to boil water and operate a blender. For veggies, simply steam some vegetable chunks and blend. For baby porridge, just grind some whole grains in a blender and boil. It's that simple. And when you're feeding your baby, simple is best. --Sumi Hahn

great.......2007-09-09
Excellent book, teaches you everything you wanted to know about baby food and more! In the back of the book it gives you recipes for making your own cleaning products that are safe around the baby. I actually started to make them.
Very helpful but not stand alone handbook.......2007-09-04
My husband bought this book before our son was born, with the idea that it would be nice to make our own baby food. I resisted, but as our son reached his 5-month birthday, the questions of what and how to feed him became more pressing and I picked the book up. At first, I found it totally overwhelming. The book is poorly organized and, although Yaron says it's possible to flip to certain sections first, it's really not, since a lot of the information needed to understand and apply the advice in one chapter is contained in different chapters. So I ended up reading the book cover to cover and now often use the index to look up specific information. Using the book in this way, I've found it very helpful and sometimes even inspiring. I have now made and frozen a lot of veggies and have started our baby on some solid food. It is tremendously satisfying to know exactly what he is eating, how it was prepared, and why I am feeding this food instead of (or with) that one. I have also since read _Feeding Your Child for Lifelong Health_ and found that with the exception of _Feeding Your Child's_ recommendations on fiber, the two books complement each other well. _Super Baby_ offers recipes and guidelines on feeding, while _Feeding Your Child_ gives nutritional background and approaches to dealing with picky eaters, etc. That said, as other reviewers mention, parents with allergies (or any concern about developing allergies in their children) should evaluate Yaron's guidelines on dairy, nuts, seeds, and soy carefully. In addition, she doesn't address the issue of home cooking high nitrate foods (carrots, beets, spinach, etc.) before eight months, another health concern, so parents using this book will need to research this themselves (_Feeding Your Child_ offers some helpful guidance). Overall, this is an extremely useful resource, but not a stand alone book on feeding your super baby or super toddler.
Super Baby Food is super info.......2007-09-04
I haven't had the time to read it through yet. But so far it's got the level to details that I want to follow. Still a bit intimidated, but am taking baby steps (ie, clearing out space in my freezer for the ice cube trays for freezing baby food) to do this for my baby.
Great book.......2007-08-31
I am only in the beginning of the feeding process but this is a great resource. I think that what you feed your child is just as important as the valves you teach them. By exposing them to the right foods from the beginning you create a lifelong habit. This book really walks you through the process and it appears to be simple enough that everyone can do it. I would highly recommend using this book!
Toooooo much advice.......2007-08-29
Sorry but this book just had way to much advice for me. All I was looking for were some quick, healthy ideas to make my baby some food at home and I ended up with the "mother" of all textbooks. Seriously if I read one more "tip" or "warning" from her I just don't know what I'll do....

weird vegetarian.......2007-10-17
If you are a vegetarian already and you're looking for some new, fun ideas, then you just might love this book. If you are an omnivore like me and are looking for ways to incorporate more vegetarian meals and interesting health foods into your diet you will probably be dissapointed. This cookbook is filled with what I like to call "weird vegetarian" food. Barley-quina risotto type of recipes do not do it for me. I could not imagine presenting any of these recipes to my family for dinner. The only recipes that looked kind of good were the ones for dessert or breakfast. Check this one out in person before you buy it.
Cool, but Undeveloped Ideas.......2007-10-11
I have cooked the Mesquite Cookies, the Espresso Banana Muffins, and the Do It Yourself Power Bars. The mesquite flour had an intriguing taste but was overpowering and I will cut it back next time to perhaps half the amount. The Espresso Banana Muffins had a refined, lovely taste, but be sure to use a large muffic pan, as there was little rise. The Do It Yourself Power Bars had a nice crunchy texture, but were overpowered by the taste of the brown rice syrup. Hit or miss, though full of ideas an experienced cook could put to good use.

Super Natural Cooking: Absolutely Super Cookbook.......2007-09-25
I am picky about cookbooks, and I have a precious few that see regular use. Super Natural Cooking just shot to the top of the pile. Heidi Swanson's glorious photography and charming, eloquent text make this cookbook personable, approachable, and enticing. She makes you want to try the recipes--and soon!
I've been eager to revamp my kitchen and return to a wholefoods pantry after straying from the path many years ago. Super Natural Cooking provided the springboard for me today that Nikki & David Goldbeck's American Wholefoods Cuisine and The Vegetarian Epicure gave me so many years ago.
To the reviewers who asked for more alternatives for hard-to-find ingredients, I would remind them that Ms. Swanson developed many of the recipes with these specific ingredients in mind. Providing an alternative ingredient might require an entirely different recipe. I think she makes it very clear that yes, many of these ingredients will not be easily found in some parts of the world and she gives mail order suppliers as best she can.
Super Easy, Super Informative, Super Natural Cooking.......2007-09-18
I am not a skilled cook. I am not a vegetarian. I do not live in a big city where exotic spices or international produce are particularly common. I shop in regular grocery stores and sometimes eat fast food. But I love this book.
Heidi Swanson takes nothing for granted, teaching simple techniques (I never took home economics!), identifying the different spices, grains, produce and natural sweeteners, and offering substitutions for the harder to find ingredients. All the recipes are simple and delicious, with lots of helpful hints and information about the whole foods philosophy. She's done her homework, and she admits that cooking in a new way can be daunting. That makes people like me feel more comfortable using this cookbook.
I highly recommend this book. The hardest part about cooking this way is tracking down all the ingredients, but it's worth it.

NV Memory Technology book review.......2000-05-01
This book is one of the most comprehensive sources available for information on non-volatile memory ICs. The subject material gives in-depth coverage of EPROM, EEPROM and FLASH design, fabrication and reliability issues. The information is extremely well-organized, thorough and practical and was obviously written by practicing professionals as opposed to academia. The illustrations are numerous and excellent. Numerous references are cited as sources for additional information. This is NOT one of those technical books which is merely a collection of published aricles. The authors obviously established a structure of relevant topics prior to developing their subjects and choosing their reference sources. The weakest areas of the book were test and ultra low power NV design.

The Second Captain Underpants Collection: Book 5-7 and Adventures of Super Diaper Baby.......2007-09-09
We are huge fans of Captain Underpants! "Tra-La-Laaaaa!". We have set one and I purchased this one as an early Christmas Present. Yes, it's still in hiding. We have read all these books before via library though. They are a hoot! My 7 year old son(he reads on a 5th grade level) and I read them to my 5 year old daughter. We all giggle! We love the adult characters' names: Ms.Ribble, Miss Anthrope, Mr. Rected to name a few. How clever! If you want a fun, silly read this is a must buy for you and your family. I call them my guilty pleasure. Enjoy!
The best for new readers.......2007-07-20
I have a seven year old son that will take his books anywhere! This time last year as he was entering the 1st grade, it was a task to get him to read. He would be frustrated and so would I. I ordered all of those books that we get from the other companies and he was just beyond that. It was not fun to him and we happened to be in a book store and he started looking at this book. He told me that someone had it in school. He has been hooked every since, and he understands the story line. It is also not one of those books that you think is for children and has adult undertone, it is just as goofy as he is and he loves it and I love it for him!!!
Captain Underpants Collection Books 5-7.......2007-02-20
I purchased this series for my eight year old son and he loved them!
There is something about boys and "potty" humor that I will never understand, but these stories hold his attention and he is reading!
The language is innocent, not more grown up then I want him to be at eight and I think that the illustrations help the stories along for my son.
He loves them and I would tell any parent trying to find something their boys would read to try these books!
Just to let you know, if you purchase the 1-5 Collection as well, you get a book overlap and end of with two "Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space".
Great for little boys!.......2007-02-15
This is NOT classic literature, but my 6 and 8 year old little boys are more excited about reading than ever! They raced to see who could finish first. The younger one begged me to read to him so he could catch up to the older one who was reading on his own. If you are having a hard time getting little boys interested in books, this will help. You just need to get pasted the "potty humor."
Tra - Laa - Laaaa.......2007-01-17
My son LOVES these stories! He is 8. I introduced him to Captain Underpants last year and he reads and re-reads them, all on his own. Any books that can stand up to Game Cube and Xbox is a winner in my veiw! the stories are funny and interesting, I have read them all myself and though occasionally the comic books mis-spelled words really get to me (I mean my kid keeps wondering what these words are since they are not spelled the way he thinks they should be (the right way)) but that's a small point really. His friends also enjoy Captain Underpants a lot.
It's a good way to get them to practice reading and to show that there is more to fun than video games.

truly the bible of poker.......2007-10-10
If you are an absolute newbie or an experienced pro, this book is a good read. Doyle reveals his style of solid play to the world and reserves his spot in poker history.
If you are absolutely clueless about how to play Texas Hold'em and get licked every night at your friend's house, this book will help you become a solid player. Once you get down the basics, it's a lot easier to make reads.
Everyone raves about this book in the poker community and with good reason. This is your shortcut to playing good poker. No joke. If you understand the logic behind Doyle's play, you will be a better player.
"Don't quit the day job".......2007-08-31
"Don't quit the day job", as Doyle Brunson said recently in an interview.
I bought this book some time ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. It is a must read for poker buffs who are looking for ways to upgrade their game. It is important to realize that even Doyle changes up his game from time to time, and cannot be relied upon to predictably do what he recommends here.
Much of what Doyle recommends has value. Pay attention to his comments about what strategy works for which stakes. The author covers many types of poker games by using expert comentary on how to play them effectively by such players as Chip Reese. In the back of the book is an extensive section about the odds of drawing to particular combinations of cards to make various hands. This is good stuff.
Brunson suggests that reading about playing poker is all to the good, but that to really learn about it you have to find a game for the kind of stakes you like and do it.
Good Luck,
Robert Hardy
power poker strategy.......2007-08-27
very good book. very interesting. only problem. doyle brunson plays top notch poker players and makes bets of multiple thousands of dollars. some of his strategies won't work in your average 10 dollar buy in hold em tournament that you hold in your garage once a week. doyle brunson is a risky player who gambles alot. people might fold at your bluff if they are looking at a 3,000 dollar bet but at your house, where people only have to pay 4 black chips and 2 blues to see the flop, they are more likely to call. i guess basically what i'm saying is that no poker strategey works on every type of player you will encounter. But the book mentions this fact many times. good reading? yes. have i won more pots because of it? maybe a few.
poker made easy? part I.......2007-08-17
NOT for beginners. This was, and still is, a must have for any serious poker player. Things you learn from pros and the like and well worth the read.
It's enough to be worth the money........2007-07-07
Doyle Brunson's Super System uses up about a fourth of this book, but it is enough. I don't feel cheated about the three quarters that weren't about what the title says. Just a couple of hours reading "the rules" and I have completely different thoughts while I'm watching poker on TV. That's called a new perspective. It's more fun for me when I'm not struggling to figure out what the players are thinking and doing, or trying to do. It's more interesting when you know when somebody is "breaking the rules".
I don't intend to ever play poker and I don't intend to learn the book. I just wanted to spend less time being baffled. This book was enough to accomplish that.
